David Treen, a Republican, was Governor of Louisiana from 1980 to 1984. Buddy Roemer became a Republican in 1991. He was the Governor of Louisiana at the time. Mike Foster, a Republican, was not only elected, he was also re-elected, as Governor of Louisiana. He held the office from 1996 to 2004.
Bobby Jindal, should he get a majority of the vote tomorrow, will be the fourth Republican Governor of Louiisiana since Reconstruction.
The shameful ignorance of recent Louisiana political history, demonstrated here by two beltway insiders, while quite revealing, sadly comes as no surprise.
John McCain campaign is deeply in debt and the odds against him are daunting. I strongly believe Fred Thompson should be very worried. McCain will likely help Rudy Giuliani capture the nomination. He is hoping to become the former New York mayor’s running mate. This contest is now Giuliani’s to lose. The recent backing of Texas governor Rick Perry may have sealed the deal. I cannot imagine Mitt Romney winning any of the larger states like California or Texas.
New England Republican here. I’m pro-choice, and would like to see legal gay marriage.
Guess what? Divorce infuriates me. My parents and most of my 9 aunts and uncles are divorced. Knowing divorcees does not make you cool with it, and America definitely cares about the personal life of the individual who will symbolize our nation as President. Giuliani’s messy romantic life is just as disturbing to me as alcoholism would be. As political pundits, i would think you would recognize the resonance of this issue with GOP primary voters. Enjoy your DC, NYC, LA echo-chamber Miniter.
Furthermore, what may seem to folks who follow the race professionally like overkill on Romney’s part in hammering home the message is actually very necessary, because ad nauseam repetition is required to implant even a vague notion in the minds of inattentive voters.
He does run the risk of a press backlash, but he won’t suffer directly from these personal profile ads. I was living in Mass when he ran for governor, and he was running the same kinds of ads there, just showing how ideal his home life was, and his Dem opponent didn’t even have any personal baggage. It worked in lefty Massachusetts, and it will probably work in the national GOP primaries.
goyn, did you go to millsaps college?
