The Color of Tea
For the past two years, the public has been bombarded with statements to the effect that the Tea Party movement is supported by White Americans only. This week, the PJTV/Pulse Opinion Research Tea Party Tracking Poll explodes this view.
With eight weeks of polling completed so far, this poll has collected a sufficient number of interviews with Black Likely Voters, to present the results with a margin of error of +/- 4 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
Fully one-third (35%) of Black Likely Voters nationwide interviewed during the time frame of the poll so far (August 1 – September 19th, 2010) stated that they Strongly or Somewhat support the Tea Party movement, with 17% supporting it Strongly.
And a comparable number (32%) of Black Likely Voters nationwide stated that they were Very or Somewhat Likely to vote for a candidate who has the support of the Tea Party movement, with 14% saying they were Very Likely to do so.
The full topline report is available here. PJTV subscribers can also see the crosstabs here.
The Tea Party Tracking Poll is a PJTV survey. The telephone survey of 1000 Likely Voters was conducted by Pulse Opinion Research on September 19, 2010. Duhh…
It’s not like the MSM hasn’t been lying through their leftist teeth ever since the Tea Party has been on the scene… ya think…
Their problem now is everyone is seeing through their B.S.

@Arinold Shwertman (#2). What was the point in posting that link? What drivel.
Just shoveling money out of Washington and giving it to people has been a dismal failure. If it did work, then our public schools would be a shining success, the envy of the modern world. And if just giving money to people was the best way to help people, nobody would be on welfare and the “War on Poverty,” which started in the 1960s with the “Great Society,” certainly would have been won by now.
Bunk. People understand that Democrats and Republicans have been shoveling out the public money simply to get votes. They don’t care what it does to either or Federal budget or to the people they claim to be “helping.” So now we have a huge national debt and not much to show for it.
People of all races are beginning to understand that real change cannot be dicated from Washington, but has to start from the individual. And any government that gives more freedom to the individual and is less of a financial burdon on the individual will see that individual thrive. What people need are more jobs and opportunity in America, NOT handouts or more Federal programs. If you create a better environment for business and more people obtain the dignity of getting a paycheck, you will not need more Federal programs.
“Hope and Change” will not make that happen. But the Conservatives will. In November, we will start the process of helping people the right way, instead of maintaining this large Federal plantation Washington has created.

What crap. Corporate America is stealing our money and has taken jobs overseas, the government is sucking out the rest of our resources, the United States of mega business has gone overseas practicing their religion of greed along with domestic business and you claim the conservatives will rescue everyone. Educate me, please! How is that to happen? What magic will be placed in the hands of the individual that will reverse this unsustainable national calamity? How the hell does the “individual” rescue this economic wasteland? It’s the individual the elitists keep in line by occupying their time with trying to survive. Even the tea party wants to reduce wages of the working class American. Whatever it is you call yourself politically the formula is the same… 84% of the wealth of this nation is CONTROLLED by 20% of the people. The united states of mega business will fight tooth and nail to maintain this control.
The “conservatives” talked about are Constitutionalists, not corporatists. That said, you raise a good point. The constitution doesn’t provide a way to balance the power of corporations. Indeed, you could argue that the Framers thought they had done away with corporations (that have the same rights as individuals, but vastly more wealth), which were a big problem in England. Ralph Nader advocated using the Feds in an adversarial role as a check on corporate power, the Feds have the money to successfully sue corporations. This worked well for a while, but then corporations discovered that you can buy out politicians (for about $7000/vote).
So what do we do now? The “anti-lobbying” laws, in addition to chilling free speech, also don’t really stop the bribes. The Constitutionalist answer is probably to undo the laws enabling corporations. But that is probably way too radical a change for today. Is there a way to bring back the role of the Feds as adversary (as opposed to co-conspirator)? While regulation and lawsuits increases business costs (which are passed on to customers), so also do monopolies. Corporate executives are no more saints than politicians, and you can’t “vote with your pocketbook” under a monopoly.
I think you hit the nail on the head. I would have to note however, the framers of the constitution did not have the interests of ALL the people they claimed to represent in mind. They certainly didn’t represent the average white man either in his identity as a small farmer. After all, the framers were men of wealth and station at the time and had their own agenda to protect. Government since then has a history of legislating for (business interests) corporations and the wealthy to the point where it is one in the same under the guise of “national interest,” “national security,” and/or “national defense.” Business runs the US government which, of course, is why I call it the united states of mega business. I don’t see much difference between the Tea Party as constitutionalists sharing an ideology that will protect the wealth of this nation and the citizens of the nation. Those 20% owning 84% are a powerful, entrenched class controlling Congress, business, and government and traditionally have been considered “conservatives”. That is our current government (plutocracy) which is NOT by, of, and for the people and ANY changes that threaten their position will be fought vigorously. Any hope of an adversarial, representative stance against the raping of America (and other countries) by this government seems so far from reality because of the radical change of direction you alluded to. You wrote “While regulation and lawsuits increases business costs (which are passed on to customers), so also do monopolies.” I would suggest deregulation has had the same effect on prices and by extension, supply and demand is no longer a valid moniker. “Squeeze all you possibly can” is more appropriate. After all, we must satisfy our stockholders and screw the peasants.
If there is a way the conservatives can lasso this runaway train I will listen with rapt attention. I was quite serious when I wrote “Educate me, please!” Only a blind man would fail to see the destruction of society imposed upon America by corporate greed.
Just another example of a poorly thought out collectivist rant. The American Republic has raised more people to a higher level standard of living than any other country in the world. You haven’t seen anything yet, if you can keep the collectivists from trying to snuff it out with their outdated ideology.
Some are so blind even Christ couldn’t help them see.
I have been dropping the flag every time someone calls the Tea Party racist. Since by leftist definition as a ‘minority’ I cannot be racist, and I support the Tea Party, what does that say?
Usually I am dismissed as an Uncle Tom, a race traitor, or too stupid to see I am being used. Well, sorry to shatter yet another stereotype, but I am a registered Libertarian and a hardcore Constitutionalist.
And we’re driving them crazy as we stand shoulder to shoulder, fighting for the recovery of our nation. Isn’t it interesting that neither you and I (me being a white Scandinavian)are interested in using racist tactics and it always reduces them to calling us names?….proud to stand with you!:)
From my experience, serving with thousands of black soldiers for 21-years, causes me to believe they are as conservative and as supportive of the constitution as Caucasians; and want our country to be strong and prosperous for all. The Obama phenom, however, renewed the ” Black block vote.” we can hope that blacks and their progressive white brothers have learned that color does not guarantee improvement.
Good comment. I have had a very similar experience and share your opinion of the basic conservatism of most Americans, Hispanic and African American. Of course if we are even half right the Democratic coalition is dead.
I’ll give some thought to the racial composition of a political group, organization, movement, or hiccup on the day that the MSM ever-so-gently turns up the heat on the militantly blacks-only Congressional Black Caucus.
Some guy on NPR was saying that the Tea Party wanted to repeal The Civil Rights Act, Social Security, and Medicare.
They probably do considering they are all unconstitutional under the 10th amendment.
SS and Medicare should be phased out. Wealth transfer from one group of people to another is unconstitutional. These programs are also demographically unsustainable. Future generations aren’t going to tolerate sky high taxes to support me in my golden years.
While not many people noticed it,the Gallup Poll had an article back in April:
Tea Partiers Are Fairly Mainstream in Their Demographics
According to the poll, Blacks constituted 6% of Tea Party Supporters. [By contrast, Blacks constituted about 1% of McCain voters: 13% of voters, 4% of Blacks voted for McCain, McCain got 46% of the vote. do the math.]

Hey Arnie potty mouth, who have you been listening to ? You’re really worked over like so many other sheep in our great country. Does it make you feel good to be part of the problem ?
Some of both the Democrats and Republicans are terrified of the Tea Party but neither will tell you the “real” reason. The reason that Washington establishment can’t figurewhat just happened is because you have to be a peasant to see it. The peasants are rising up. It’s a guaranteed, definite, surefire, cast iron, in the bag, clear cut, assured, straightforward, and a sure thing, that’s the reason. The elistist’s will see it first when they see the top of the pitch-forks.
