Watch it in its entirety here. Stand up Comedy in Afghanistan here.
Was this a parody? The two gentlemen did not seem to remember any details about any films during the decade other than they didn’t like them in comparison to their favorite decade films. Furthermore, what movie critic worth their salt limits themselves only to Oscar nominated or Oscar winning films? By the end of their video, I was waiting for them to complain about the price of bread as compared to when they were kids and how those darn skateboarders are zooming by them on the side walks. Seriously, “Hotel Rwanda”, “The Last King of Scotland”, “There Will Be Blood” “City of God”…none of these are even worth being mentioned? What about kids movies? Pixar has made some of the best children films of all time… “Monsters Inc.” “Up” “The Incredibles”. Have these gentlemen actually stepped into movie theater recently? Granted, a large segment of the films produced in the US are…well crap…but to ignore the good ones just doesn’t make any sense to me.
I guess if you ignore insignificant details like costume design, lighting, cinematography, set design, editing, stunt work, special effects, makeup, sound design, movies were indeed better in the 50ties.
Oh the good old days with movies in black and white, mono sound and wooden acting.
