The Atlantic Interview: Obama Rewrites His Record on Israel
At the General Assembly, the president’s speech of 2010 specifically planted in the minds of every listener and fueled a September 2011 date for a “state of Palestine” becoming “a new member of the United Nations.” Moreover, President Obama devoted more than a third of his entire General Assembly statement focusing on what Israel should and should not do, knowing full well that the deadly Arab narrative is that the failure to solve the Arab-Israeli conflict on their terms is the root cause of Islamic fanaticism and violence. In other words, it was the president himself who used his speech in the UN forum as a pressure tactic against the state of Israel.
On the flotilla of Turkish-backed extremists who attempted to violate Israel’s lawful blockade of Hamas-run Gaza, the Obama administration extraordinarily permitted the Security Council to adopt a presidential statement within 24 hours of the event. The statement cast the flotilla participants as humanitarians, was silent on Israel’s legitimate concerns about arms-smuggling, and made no mention of Hamas at all. Without taking any time to ensure the facts were at hand, the Council unanimously agreed to a UN investigation of the Israel Defense Forces which the United States would never have legitimized for American armed forces in similar — or in fact any — circumstances.
And as for Iran, President Obama’s use of the United Nations has moved the country in only one direction — inexorably closer to obtaining nuclear weapons. President Obama was the first U.S. president to preside over a meeting of the UN Security Council in September 2009, and he personally took the opportunity of controlling the Council agenda to tie nuclear non-proliferation together with nuclear disarmament. His move had the predictable effect of setting back non-proliferation efforts by giving Iran one more excuse to delay, while disarming America moved to center stage. The sanctions regime belatedly adopted by the Council has been an incontrovertible failure.
At rock bottom, the president’s interview makes one claim more poisonous to Israel’s welfare than all others. He argues that if Israel uses military force against Iranian nuclear sites, then the timeline for any negative consequences will start with Israel — not Iran. Obama urges Netanyahu to think about “the profound costs of any military action,” places the focus on “potential unintended consequences” of Israel’s actions, and describes the move as libel to be a “distraction in which Iran suddenly can portray itself as the victim.”
This is not the statement of an ally at a turning point in world history, with the most dangerous country on Earth on the verge of acquiring the world’s most dangerous weapon. Israel’s actions would be taken in self-defense. They would not be the starting point. Israel and the civilized world, in the crosshairs of this leading state sponsor of terrorism and its genocidal ambitions, are the real victims and any claim to the contrary would be a lie — not a distraction. To suggest that Israel will be responsible for the economic costs of seriously slowing or ending Iran’s race towards nuclear weapons places the shoe exactly on the wrong foot, and diminishes the much higher cost of Iranian victory.
The president’s miscalculation on Iran is of epic proportion. He even describes the Iranian leadership to Goldberg this way: “they’re sensitive to the opinions of the people.” The freedom-loving people of Iran who are rotting in Iranian torture chambers are undoubtedly as mortified by this claim as are the people of Israel and its supporters across America. The very unfortunate reality is that Israel may be forced to save America and the civilized world because this commander-in-Chief is AWOL. Israel has America’s back, not the other way around.
In his interview, President Obama worried that Republicans are trying to “drive a wedge … between Barack Obama and a Jewish American vote.” They don’t have to, Mr. President. You can take credit for the mile-wide gulf all yourself.
This president has damaged and demeaned our relationships with all our allies, while he has coddled our avowed enemies. Isn’t it time for the Jewish American community to stop voting en masse for “liberals” like Obama?

Actually there are numerous anti-Obama Jews, from comedian Jackie Mason, Rabbi Dov Fischer, the Kiss singer from Israel, Charles Krauthammer, Matt Levin, the readers and editors of Commentary and the Jewish World Review, to anyone who lived in Israel to give an impression of the forces out there.
Oh please. What is the percentage of Jews who will still vote for him. Hell I believe Israel could be blown to smithereens and American Jews will STILL vote for Dear Leader. Ideology over brains.
I can understand dumping israel as an ally; the US can continue to enjoy the benefits of the relationship for years to come because the Israelis have nowhere else to go. So why not take the benefits of exploiting israeli contributions to the US while at the same time gaining the benefits of working with Israel’s enemies ? The best of both worlds, if you have no conscience.

Let’s hope that the conservatives who are speaking at AIPAC go after Obama’s lies. I know Obama is disconnected from reality, but is he that disconnected from his own actions???/ I mean, really, can he actually believe he has been a supporter of Israel? If so, what will he do when he gets mad at Israel? Geez.
Obama, the quintessential narcissist believes what he wants to believe and anyone who disagrees is “deranged” or “stupid”. His superiority cannot and will not be questioned as he doesn’t believe he has any peers.
As for his bowing to foreign leaders, that is an act of patronage, not of inferiority as far as he’s concerned. He’s doing what he does when he attempts ebonics at a union meeting by patronizing and trying to function like them. But his patronization of other nation leaders is perhaps the rudest kind of behavior. Like decking your house out as if it were a Mexico City brothel when you invite your hispanic neighbors over for a barbecue (so they can ‘feel at home’)
When he bows he’s saying, “I’m better than you but…just so you’ll like me and let me ‘play’ you, I’ll pretend to acknowledge your superiority over the US”. See, it’s not HIMSELF he’s acknowledging as inferior but the United States.
In his vacuous mind, this is all it takes to accomplish world peace and how people “should get along”. Meanwhile, we see how he treats those who he perceives as his enemies; With contempt, smart-a** comments and extended middle fingers”.
He’s a child. Worse, he’s an adolescent with power. Remember that old statement: “He’s worse than a 16 year old with the car keys and a bottle of Jack Daniels”. That statement is Obama in total. No one holds him responsible and perhaps it’s because they fear the tantrum he’ll have when the car keys are removed and he’s locked in his room (cell).
The only reason that the republicans are not calling him out is because they greatly fear the media tagging them as racists. But Newt has shown how to circumvent that argument by simply stating the conservative viewpoint. More candidates need to do that. Sure, the media will try to flavor it as “all racism, all the time” but since the blacks won’t vote for a conservative anyhow and the “independents” won’t either, why try? It’s been said that “if what you need is so important that you’re willing to compromise your values to get it, it’s not worth having”. But to counter that, “If the customer thinks you don’t like them, you’ve lost the sale”.
Politics is such a slimy endeavor. Brings out the worst in everything. Unfortunately, I’ve watched too many movies about megalomaniacs where the henchmen have had enough and won’t do their bidding any longer and the hero beats the bad guy and life is good again. I’ve been waiting for the republicans to have it out with the guy and it’s not happening. I think they’d just prefer to “quietly have him voted out of office” thus avoiding having to take a stand and being the people in history noted for criticizing the first black president.
But black or not, it’s not been a very good run for the United States. And that’s all I care about. Not his color, his citizenship, or any peripheral issue. It’s his politics and he has damaged this nation greatly.

O exhibits several traits, which he seems to repeat. 1) He believes he is always correct because everything he wants to do for “the people” is good for “the people.” 2) If someone or some group has the temerity to balk or say no, he attacks them as the enemy. 3) If he makes a demonstrable mistake or is flat wrong about a specific issue, he finds an “enemy” to blame for the problem. 4) Truth is what he says it is.
This man does not believe in and finds no resonance with 250 years of U.S. history. Our old allies are not his allies; many, including I believe Israel, are his enemies. He believes the white man owes an penance which can never be “paid” for colonial and other actions, around the world. He may have converted to Christianity for political reasons, but the call of the Imam still thrills him. He understands the concepts of “taqqiya” and “tawriya,” and adopts them as his own on a daily basis.
Unless one believes in the man fully and totally shares his world and personal views, placing any trust whatsoever in him, his actions, or his party is quite ill advised.
I just don’t understand why the Israelis have such difficulty embracing the goals and aspirations of their neighbors. If only they would walk into the ovens of the Middle East singing Hatikva, peace would blossom throughout the Arab world. The Arab spring has morphed into the usual repressive primitivism characteristic of this part of the world. It’s tough to overcome profound ignorance, superstition and prejudice. Perhaps impossible. Truth be told, the only reason the West pays attention to the Arab world is oil; absent oil, the sheiks, emirs, petty dictators and thugs would disappear from the world stage.
What does Obama believe? Who gives a crap. I wouldn’t buy a used car from him. The Israelis aren’t shopping for used cars.

To me, this has probably been the most disgusting thing Obama has done to Israel. Every country has a right and a responsibility to defend its maritime borders. Israel had every right to stop those ships, especially if they thought they were carrying weapons to Hamas. And, since Israel has already stopped several ships trying to smuggle weapons to Hamas, this was not an irrational move on the part of the Israelis. If I were president, I would have sent ships from the US Sixth Fleet to help back up the Israeli blockade, just to let Hamas know that what they were doing was not only illegal, but that we were supporting the blockade as well. These ships never should have been allowed close to the blockade line, let alone tried to cross it. The supporters of Hamas on those boats are just lucky the Israelis didn’t blow them out of the water, an action I would have fully supported since they did not follow the order to stop. And, if the ships had nothing to hide, why didn’t they just stop and let the Israelis simply search the ships?
How can one mention the flotilla and Israel’s right to inspect, without a reminder Obama’s community organizer friends, Code Pink, Ayers, Dohrn, on hand?
