The AIPAC Showdown: Obama vs. Bibi, Peres
The most recent rift between Israel and Washington was sparked by the comments by Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, who said in a CNN interview aired Sunday that the U.S. was trying to persuade Israel to not strike Iran, and branded Tehran a “rational actor.”
Peres has been especially vocal about Israel’s lack of tolerance for Iran lately, suggesting a unified front from the Israeli leaders coming into Washington. “Nuclear weapons mustn’t be allowed to fall into the hands of Iran’s Ayatollah regime,” Peres said at the Herzliya Conference on Jan. 31. “It is the duty of the international community to prevent evil and nuclear [weapons] from coming together. That is the obligations of most of the leaders of the free world, one which they must meet.”
To heap suspense upon the tension that should be evident in the key AIPAC addresses, this could very well be the last conference — and last Oval Office meeting — before Israel launches spring strikes.
Adding to the opposition Obama will face is a new addition this week to the speakers’ list: Former House Speaker and GOP presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich.
Representing congressional leadership on the AIPAC speakers’ roster this year will be Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). This carries on a tradition of rotating the leadership in each year’s speaking slots: Last year, House Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) addressed the conference.
Other lawmakers on the list of plenary speakers are Sens. Carl Levin (D-Mich.), chairman of the Armed Services Committee, Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), and Johnny Isakson (R-Ga.).
More than a dozen members of the House are also slated to participate in breakout-session panels, including Foreign Affairs Committee Chairwoman Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.) and Ranking Member Howard Berman (D-Calif.). Other notables include pro-Israel House stalwarts Brad Sherman (D-Calif.) and Eliot Engel (D-N.Y.), and Israel missile defense Appropriations advocate Steve Rothman (D-N.J.).
They’ll converge upon a center that will be teeming with American supporters of Israel, surrounded by Occupy AIPAC demonstrators ready to defend Iran, and permeated by the reality that this could be three days that go down in history.
As the sand in the nuclear hourglass runs out, what will the final message be from Netanyahu and Peres — and, when faced with the bipartisan voices of support for the Jewish state, where will the White House stand?
PJM will be covering the AIPAC conference live March 4-6.

They weren’t born to walk on water
They weren’t born to sack and slaughter
But on their soul, they weren’t born
To stoop and knuckle under
They can again learn to steal some thunder
They can again learn to work some wonder
And when the gauntlet’s down,
It’s time to rise and climb the sky
And soon the moon will smoulder
And the winds will drive
Yes, Israel grows older but it’s soul remains alive
All those tremulous stars still glitter
They will survive
Let their hearts grow colder and as bitter as a falcon in the dive
There was a dream, a dying ember
There was a dream, they may not yet remember
But they will resurrect that dream
Though rivers stream and hills grow steeper
For in the Middle East where life gets cheaper
Oh, here in this Hell the blood runs deeper
And when the final duel is near
They will lift their spear and fly
Piercing into the sky and higher
And the strong will thrive
Yes, the weak will cower while the fittest will survive
If they wait for the darkest hour
Till they spring alive
Then with claws of molten fire, they will devour like a falcon in the dive!
“Peres has been especially vocal about Israel’s lack of tolerance for Iran lately, suggesting a unified front from the Israeli leaders coming into Washington.”
That “front” may not be quite so unified, if a report from Arutz Sheva is correct. They claim Peres will tell Obama he is OPPOSED to an Israeli strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities. (He also opposed Israel’s strike on Iraq’s nuclear facility in 1981, according to Claire’s “Raid on the Sun”.) He just prefers (as many of us do) that the job not fall to Israel alone. But will he tell Obama that even he – icon of the “peace camp” – will support an Israeli strike if the world sticks to its strategy of diplomacy and (weak) sanctions? That’s not clear.
Jews have been through this in the ’30′s when hitler announced (announced, just like this psychopath in Iran) that he was going to murder world jewry, that he would take over europe, and he would go into chekoslovakia.
the world was having hitler to tea, while he was hanging jewish children and gassing their baby brothers and sisters and mothers and fathers and families.
never again.
Israel will do what Israel needs to do to protect their people. Obama will do what he continues to do, pontificate, posture, pander, lead from behind, retreat, extort, cheat, conive, sell out, and betray. So much for the prize of the left wing commie socialists in the US and anyone else who supports this worst president in history.
I do not understand why anyone with Religious beliefs supports the O’man. It is clear that his belief set is to Worship the King, not your faith. Currently, he seems to be in bed with the Muslims, but he keeps having policies that are anathema to Sharia law: free contraception, gay marriage, etc. Internationally, he is not Israel’s friend, ready to toss them under the bus.
I fear a nuclear strike is coming, what other option does Israel have. It is clear Iran will either strike or try and hold Israel hostage as soon as they have a weapon.
Two answers to your question, John Galt: longstanding foreign policy regarding oil politics and Israel is analyzed here, also quoting Obama’s second book: http://clarespark.com/2009/09/11/oil-politics-and-obamas-view-of-israeli-history/. Secondly, many American Jews were active in the civil rights movement and supported Obama, proud to be supporting a black president. It was also a convenient road to assimilation. Many of Obama’s Jewish supporters were ignorant about the foundation of Israel and had no tools to see through him and such aides as Samanta Power.
Nothing short of an invasion of Iran will stop their nuclear program. A military strike would only delay it at best (you honestly don’t think they have contingency plans for a strike in Iran?) and almost certainly spark a wider conflict.
Syria would love a chance to deflect criticism from themselves and gain prestige by attacking Israel. Egypt has a government quite hostile to Egypt and the military there would love to gain prestige (and deflect criticism) and a war with Israel would be very popular. Turkey is very cozy with Iran and while they might not declare war, they might shoot down any Israeli planes even remotely near their airspace.
And a US invasion of Iran is not going to happen. The US would not survive it. We’re already broke, another costly war would be the end. Especially as the price of oil would shoot through the roof, crippling the economy and putting the hurt on the poor and middle class. (That would likely happen in case of a strike, any way as Iran would retaliate)
Nothing short of an invasion of Iran will stop their nuclear program. A military strike would only delay it at best (you honestly don’t think they have contingency plans for a strike in Iran?) and almost certainly spark a wider conflict.
This is nonsense. Either the Israelis or the US could permanently put paid to the Iranian nuclear program by using tactical nuclear weapons. No one will do it, and that’s probably the right decision, but never doubt for an instant that a nuclear power with the will can shut the Iranians down permanently.
The real problem is that no one can be sure of Iranian intentions or rationality. We can all speculate, but the Israelis are the ones who face an existential choice: the Iranians say they want to wipe the Israelis off the face of the earth. I think the Israels do, and we should, believe the Iranians. That’s the safest thing to do. The Israelis say “Never Again” and I think both we and the Iranians should take that seriously. I think the US takes it at least semi-seriously, I don’t thing the Iranians do. To me, that calls Iranian rationality into question.
Israel’s choice set isn’t pretty, because even if you assign a fairly low probability to a nuclear-armed Iran using a nuke on Israel (or giving one to the Palestinians, Hezbollah, or Syria), the consequences of that event would be catastrophic for Israel – tens of thousands of Israelis killed for certain, perhaps hundreds of thousands. A new holocaust.
Were that to happen, the Israeli response would have to be a strategic nuclear strike on Iran which would turn Iranian cities into glass parking lots as well as eliminating its military capabilities. Such a response would kill millions, perhaps even tens of millions, of Iranians.
Even if one were concerned primarily about Iranian lives, one would almost have to favor an Israeli preemptive tactical nuclear strike against the Iranian regime and its nuclear capabilities. The casualties from an Israeli (or American, for that matter) tactical nuclear strike against Iran would be horrific – perhaps some hundreds of thousands – and more would die when Iran and its surrogates attempted to retaliate. But, those numbers would pale in comparison to the numbers of dead and devastation that would result from an Iranian nuclear strike and an Israeli strategic nuclear response.
There are no good options here – a decade ago or so, the situation was more analogous to the German re-militarization of the Rhineland in 1936. Now, we’re at a brink like that faced by France and Britain when they drew the line at Poland after they gave Czechoslovakia to the Germans at Munich.
No one wants a war with Iran. As bad as it would be — and it would be very bad strategically, the US could probably live with a nuclear Iran. Our current Arab allies in the Middle East probably can’t, and the Iraelis certainly cannot.
No question there will be a war. The only questions are when, on whose terms, and whether it stays conventional.
Your last line, There will be a war, whether conventional or nuclear….This is the last few months left to Israel to make up their minds, They must make the decision, before Iran has the bomb….Heaven help Mr. Netanyahu, to make his decision….Friends of Israel the time to Pray and Fast is here..This evil regime of Iran is working overtime to finish this evil deed they are planning…Eternal Father in heaven, please give Bibi the wisdom to be the spirit of the young David, when He had to go and destroy Golieth….Our Great G0d, please go before Bibi and make his paths sure, I don`t know how to pray for outside help, for i fear there is none, but YOU, Our heavenly Father…Prove Yourself and Glorify Thyself before the impotant weaklings of this world that claim to be leaders of mankind…Show Yourself and deliver your own planting of long ago, Israel…We beg of You, our Father in Heaven…..Amen
“Nothing short of an invasion of Iran will stop their nuclear program.
Psst…Jeremy, keep this between you and me… we’ve already got a secret invasion force in place… it’s the Iranian People who would stomp a mud hole in the mullahs if given the opportunity.
It’s understandable that you wouldn’t have heard about them, the unrest has been classified “Well known by everybody outside of government, academia, and the media”. All we have to do is break the dam and let freedom spill forth however it will. If we cripple the regimes ability to terrorize its populace then the populace will do the heavy lifting. Again, keep it a secret, we wouldn’t want the mullahs to know that their subjects are itching to revolt.
Invasion? Is Israel, incapable of tackling Hezbollah next door, going to invade Iran? Of course, I am being facetious, because the implication is that the U.S. invade Iran for Israel. I suggest anyone who thinks this is a sane course of action head to Israel and volunteer for the first wave. Put your own flesh on the line. Take the Christo-Zionists with you, since I doubt if you will find many American Jews volunteering for combat infantry. Any bets on how many AIPAC supporters flock to the banner on the beaches of Iran? America’s army has been fighting for globalist interests for twenty years. Let them sit this one out.
israel is incapable of dealing with Hezbollah for one simple reason. They have to dig them out one by one whilst they are hiding behind their children and petticoats holed up in mosques, schools and hospitals. If Israel were able to fight the Hezbollah in the same manner Hezbollah fights, the war would be over in 24 hours.
Actually, Israel is capable only they have to stop the nonsense of detailed surgical strikes. The next time, both in the cases of Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in Lebanon, it will be all out war in which the civilians behind which these `freedom fighters`hide will also be hit if necessary. No other way around it. Priding itself on being the most `moral`military in the world does not help. Israel has discovered this. In fact, read Victor David Hansen`s `Soul of Battle`to understand what the greatest of generals did. Exterminating the enemy forces was the first priority and it came about, in part, by destroying their property (General Sherman) in order to cut supplies and to reduce morale. Defeating the enemy was the priority, not necessarily by killing them or the surrounding civilians. I think Israel has learned its lessons in both Gaza and Lebanon. I believe the forthcoming wars will be handled much differently. The Israeli public is demanding it. And, afterwards, a victorious Israel can always apologize.
no one would think of asking you to do anything. indeed, after speaking with your family, neighbors and co-workers, don’t even try.
Jeremy, you are totally correct….Israel will never receive any help from obama…Israel is at the worst state that She could possibly be….Israel is going to have to choose between suicide as a nation, or all out nuclear war to save itself….Now i know why the Bible teaches us to pray for the Peace of Jerusalem….This is not a situation that can be swept aside for the next century….we are speaking about now…and the next 24 months at the most….I predict Israel will have to move this year….As a B.A. Christian, I have positive Thoughts about what is going to happen….I do not think that Iran or Russia will “destroy” Israel, I am as certain of this as i am that the sun will shine tomorrow…Isn`t it unusual for so many things to happen as they are today, Iran, Syria, Iraq…oil money and power,…..and the USA bowing to the evil despots all over the world….I pray that some one would write a long statement as what Israel and Jesus Christ have in common, and the N.T has to say about all this….I love Israel as much as any Jewish could love it….Jimi
Well, technically speaking with sufficient mega tonnage the Iranian issue could be resolved fairly decisively. They are bringing pop guns to a nuke fight. Un till now Iran has been doing much better hiding behind terrorists.
Good grief. If I heard something like this and I was Netanyahu, I might give second thought about does Israel really want or need to be partnered with somebody this grossly incompetent involved in the planning or operation? This comment doesn’t even rise to useful idiot. Somewhere, Neville Chamberlain is grateful.
I had not heard this. Just when I think I can’t grow any less confident that anyone in this Obama regime could find their butt cheeks with two hands, something like this comes across the wire.
What’s rational is to summarily dismiss this Demsey for abject stupidity, with a news viewing of watching this him carrying his personals out of his office.
Unfortunately for all of us, General Dempsey is giving us the Administration’s line on Iran. He is speaking for both Tom Donilon and the 0, and the 0′s acolytes.
The Obama Thugocracy is a greater threat to Israel than Iran–for the moment. If Obama gets a second term, Israel is finished and so is America.
Who in their right mind would trust this bunch in the White House. You have Valerie Jarret, who was born in Iran. You have Clapper who said that the Muslim Brotherhood was not a religious group. You’ve got Eric, My People, Holder wanting to hold terror trials in civilian courts. You have the CIA, State Dept, FBI, and military brass whitewashing Islam from terror operations. And you’ve got Barack who shabbility treated Bibi when he came to Washington. And then wants Israel to go back to pre 1967 lines. Treachery and treason abounds. After they leave, Bibi & company will have to take the knives out of their backs.
and you’ve got Obama security advisor John Brennan referring to Jerusalem as “Al Quds”–its Arabic name. nice touch.
The fate of Israel is secure, it is the fate of the United States which is in jeopardy. Some may not believe it but it is true none the less. Mighty nations have fallen before due to the arrogance and lack of foresight of a single leader. It will happen again.
Obama prefers not to strike Iran at all. His first choice is to let things simmer until he has the election won. After that he cares little if Iran attacks israel or vice versa. He could care less if both counties destroy each other. From his point of view his job is easier either way. Should Israel be victorious he has lost nothing. Should Iran be victorious he has sowed enough Islamic street credit to approach Iran as a friend. A post election war between Iran and Israel is a win-win for Obama. That is his only concern.
Should Israel strike prior to the elections in November it is the timing which concerns Obama most. With an Israeli first strike Obama may be forced to resupply and support Israel. If so he will loose votes from his base but gain votes on the right and center. If this happens close to the elections the Obama approval rating would skyrocket temporarily then fade quickly. Just as the strike against Bin Laden proved out. If the strike were to happen early on, say in the next days, Obama will be forced to support Israel but reap no reward. He will loose his base and the economy will once again take center stage as the memory of his support for Israel fades.
Dempsey, shilling for Obama, is trying to delay the strike until it suits Obamas purposes- when Obama gains the most from the action. Netanyahu for the moment is holding all the cards yet he faces a terrible dilemma. Face either a newly elected Obama or a nuclear armed Iran. A strike now , and I mean immediately, makes the most sense.
Don’t plan on visiting Iran any time soon.
I dare say there is no really safe place on Earth this year for a spring/summer vacation. However, the U.S. is probably safer than Europe and certainly better than anywhere else in the Western Hemisphere with the possible exception of Canada.
Personally, I have accepted that war in the region is certain and Israel needs to act accordingly. A strike will not prevent war, nor will it make it more likely. I do not know what Israel’s best course is, but I am fine with them making their own decision.
Islam is a religion rooted in the military conquests of its founder. There is no way for it to “mature” or mellow along the lines of Christianity because the example of its founder is 180 degrees opposite the example of Jesus – when rejected, Mohammed made his way to succor, raised an army, and conquered those who rejected him. After that he set about enriching himself and his followers.
Arguments about the historical actions of Christian empires or nations must face the fact that the life of Jesus is in direct opposition to conquest and earthly power, while Muslims who seek conquest, power, and wealth are faithfully emulating their founder.
Destruction of the Jews is an immutable religious tenet of Islam. Jews, not Israelis. Jews and Israelis must act accordingly.
Israel is lucky to have a leader like Netanyahu right now. He may turn out to be Israel’s version of Winston Churchill.
Unfortunately, that means that Netanyahu is also going to be a wartime leader. If Obama wants to earn that useless Nobel Peace Prize that he got for no reason a few years ago, he had better do it now. And the way to do it is to convince the Iranians that Israel is as serious as a heart attack about bombing Iran. I don’t know how much time we have left, but I don’t think it’s much. Israel would not be making so many noises unless it was serious about attacking in the not to distant future.
After four years of an American president doing nothing to them, I think Iran is not used to having a country really, really, threaten them, like the Israelis. By his very inaction, Obama may be getting the war he didn’t want. And he can’t say to the Israelis that he will not send them equipment for the war or support them in a war. This is an election year and Congress, not Obama, has the power of the purse. And all of those people in Congress want to get re-elected. How many of them (except Ron Paul) do you think will be willing to let Israel twist in the wind on an isssue as dangerous as this? Trust me, not many. They will vote to give Israel anything it needs in order to fight this fight, regardless of what Obama does.
Destroying Iran’s nuclear facilities is a no-brainer. Sooner rather than later, would be best. Tactical nukes seems the way go since the sites are hidden and hardened and accurate and effective bombing is difficult.
However, there is a easier, more direct and permanent solution to Iranian lunacy and it can be accomplished without resort to nuclear weapons. Why contaminate useful and valuable Iranian petroleum just to kill useless and worthless Iranians?
Iranian aggression is fanatically religious at its core. The Shiah loonies in Iraq and Iran have all their religious eggs in two baskets. Kum and Najaf. Firebomb both. Vintage buffers full of Conventional incendiary munitions can get the job done in one full day or night of rolling thunder. Incinerate every Shia “scholar,” imam, ayatollah and mosque in one holy holocaust. And spare the oil which is the only reason–State Department lies and propaganda to the contrary–Americans are Middle East in the first place.
Not a great solution. Would still leave the gov’t bureaucracy intact. Would also ignite the sympathies of the Iranian people against the US. Better to work comprehensively with the opposition to actually help them take down the regime. Listen to Newt’s comments on dealing with Iran… He has it pretty straight.
Also – an attack by Israel does not have to completely destroy the underground facilities – it simply has to render them inacessible (i.e, destroy their entrances to a reasonable depth), or ideally, inoperable.

Got the video from an article trashing Newt, but it did contain the full video clip on Iran from the National Journal debate.
Sorry, bad link (wish pjm had an ‘edit’ button). Here’s the right one:

obama surrounds himself with Jews who would give up Israel to the highest bidder. They make me sick! They know how much obama and his admin (well the real leaders of the country, soros and jarretttttt) hate, hate, hate the Jewish people. I don’t care if you think he is a Christian, or he says he is a Christian, he was raised as a muslim and when he had to go to a church because of his political ambitions he picked one that was a Jew hating church.
When are the Jews going to wake up and quit supporting him?
Even if you’re not a practicing Jew, you must have some affinity for the Jewish state.
Is Valerie Jarret a Jew? Is Eric Holder? Leon Pannetta? Hilary Clinton?
I am frankly quite tired of the focus on Jews in the Obama administration.
Jews get blamed for both putting Israels interest first and for putting Israels interest last.
Demanding either is reprehensible. Every individual follows their own conscience. Jews are human beings. Get it?
The list of individuals in this administration for whom religion is not relevant is as long as your arm. It is not an exclusive to one religion club.
I have great sympathy for the Israelis in Tel Aviv, and the Iranians in Tehran. The way things are going, both populations are going to die soon, in hideous agony. Their leaders, and our American President seem to accept this slide into hell. All have made incredibly stupid mistakes.
I fault the Israelis for many things, but know my judgment is similar to criticizing a man in mortal combat for the smudge on his collar.
I hold US leaders, both political parties, to equal or greater fault. We have more resources but have squandered them. Consider the recent debate, and the CNN focus on this looming horror. None. By any metric, US energy policy for the last two generations, has driven us into an fuel addiction subservient to the most savage nations on earth. We have more fuel than they have, but we are not allowed to use ours. Money talks, and our expenditures on fission energy, define us as killers.
It is my theology that God, Yahweh and Allah, will hold those responsible for the coming megadeaths. All faiths share a common belief: Due to their great evil, some will burn forever.
I think the decision has already been made. It is only a question of when.
The next communication between Netanyahu and Obama of any importance will be a phone call in the night.
He will get the call when the job is done and our folks are home.
I hope and pray NOT….The phone call in the night will only cause this evil muslem, 0b0, to reap some kind of reward from what Israel has to do…Jewish friends, have faith, and look up for the redemption of Ysrael draws near….
If SCOAMF can abrogate his oath to the Constitution, then it stands to reason that the Joint Chiefs must step in and do what must be done to protect the realm by upholding their oaths. Chain of command be damned. If Israel must go it alone, Iran will strike at us with whatever they have.
We have a fundamentally irresponsible man who is C-in-C. His actions have left us vulnerable at a time when we can least afford to be.
G-d help us.
Israel, no one is holding you back. Iran is in the ring waiting. All you have to do is have the guts to walk out there without the U.S.gov holding your hand. And it’s on.
What is your PM here for? To again try to arm twist the U.S.gov into spilling more blood and treasure for you?
Go fight. Prove yourself. We’ll watch this one from the sideline, thank you.
They will.
The problem is that large parts of the US military are not “on the sidelines”. They are close enough to smell the cordite. Iran might relatiate against US targets. That would be foolish but these people are not reasonable.
It would be best for close allies US and Israel to be on the same page. That is what is being attempted here.
We don’t need to prove ourselves to anyone.
answer to kish MIR in tuchas,
Dear mr tuchas,no American soldier has ever fought or died for Israel or the Jews.NEVER.Americans have fought for France,Britain, most of the rest of western & Southern Europe. They have fought for China,South Korea,So.Vietnam,Australia & the Philippines. No American soldier ever, ever fought for the Jews,NEVER!We were allowed to be murdered by the millions in the camps because it served Europes purposes & Roosevelt didn’t want to upset the British. So,to conclude,KISH MIR IN TUCHAS & good night!
As much as I would like to say david levavi’s post in 11 reads repulsive, I’m not sure we aren’t kidding ourselves if after thinking this through, ultimately that is where my conclusion ends.
I am having trouble convincing myself there are reasonable alternatives for either the U.S. and Israel but war. I say that with great sadness, because I have no wish for Iran’s ordinary to be killed. I have no idea where dealing Iran a devastating blow leads. I only know where it leads if we don’t act – bad.
But after witnessing the advent of the Arab Spring and the Muslim Brotherhood…in conjunction with the attitudes at a minimum the heads of Iraq and Afghanistan (and I’m not sure the citizenry), what has our blood and diplomacy bought us? Time? Time for what? To protect the other thugs so oil remains north of a $100.00 a barrel with promises they’ll try to keep it “affordable?”
There are two existential threats here. One immediate and catastrophic; the other a slow death. For Israel, the situation is obvious; for the U.S., we are slowly bleeding ourselves, behooved to the Sauds – who let’s face reality, use us as protection while cornholing us in the process. It’s not that we can’t do without the import, but they are setting the price. They can bleed us without us taking a barrel from them. Newt Gingrich is right – energy policy is an issue of national security. Short of water, there is nothing we are more dependent upon for our way of life than fossil fuels. And this feckless President we have now is doing nothing but making a bad situation much worse with his pipe dreams of alternative fuels, and his own set of thugs and thieves at the EPA.
I understand fully well most of these countries are led by brutal secularists oppressing their people and mouthing platitudes about their Islamic faith. I am completely convinced sanctions won’t do a thing in Iran, and in fact will lend ammunition to the tyrants who will then use the excuse market more hatred toward the west. But Iran’s leaders? I believe they may be a different breed of cat. They’re not just brutish thugs, but real believers – real zealots. You look at Iran, and you get an inkling of what’s coming down the pike all over the middle east.
But if our intervention simply leads to radical Islam being head of state and more threat, then what have we gotten for troubles of trying to play diplomat?
I really am asking this sincerely. If I have missed something, feel free to critique or criticize. But after a great deal of thought, I don’t see we Americans have many good options but for a call to arms.
If we are huffing and puffing with no real plans to attack, that is good for the Ayatollah and bad for us. The longer it goes, the weaker our hand. America can abandon the responsibility to Israel, but all that does is hasten our own demise.
And to you mockers of Christianity casting charges of us Evangelicals trying usher in the rapture? Of course, I know those charges bogus, but if you really want to see a push for Armageddon and a real theocracy at work, why the blind eye toward Iran and the Muslim Brotherhood? You clowns are right in your conclusion, but like a deranged dog, barking up the wrong tree.
G-d Bless You Tex. Come to Jerusalem. The cigars and beers are on me.
ps- Don’t worry. Hakol Yihiye Beseder.
Why do you want Americans to die for Israel? I smell a dual loyalist posing as red blooded Texan.
Great deal of thought? What is it YOU want in the M.E.??? It is on the other side of planet. WTF cares what they do over there as long they don’t it here. And the reason they attacked over here is because we’re over there. Since 1953, Tex.
Get out of the M.E. and the M.E. gets out of your face. Israel’s fate is no concern of ours considering they are doomed. No need to join them.
@M. Mir: if you think that the problem in the Middle East has anything to do with Israel’s existence, you are an even bigger schmuck than you appear to be. Sharia compliant Muslims consider tyenWest as their mortal enemy. Israel is the proxy for the US. You fool, you and your children are in danger, and you are too stupid to see it.
Only somebody so completely divorced from the writings and foundational attitudes of our great Framers (that would be of the USA M. Mir) Could possibly emit a nugget of claptrap so void of historical insight. Read a little history why don’t you.
Are you really that gullible to think America can isolate herself from the world’s situations, Mr. Mir? Let me guess. A Paulian, perhaps a Troofer, with a penchant for reading Veteran’s Today newsletters?
Your olfactory is off, as well as having tunnel vision. Red blooded Oklahoman. Never been to the country of Israel in my life. Like to visit once, and hope too – running out of time, I’m afraid. Only have a few Jewish acquaintances as there’s not many around here – two of which I suppose I would call friends, though not close friends. Is that the type of dual loyalist you refer? If it is my allegiance you question, I think a quick read through this site might leave no doubt I’m about as jingoistic as they come. Let’s just say my allegiance with Israel could be called wise, practical, and I prefer to win.
Oh, we’ve been there a lot longer than 1953. Better bone up on your history. Maybe your economics too, because I don’t think you’re understanding the immediate consequences of simply leaving Israel to the wolves. Your pocketbook will feel it long before your neck with scimitar placed next to it will. But both would be imminent. And Israel is not going anywhere. It will be there under Jewish rule, one way or another, long after you and I pass.
Now let me ask you a question, Mir. Do you think we Americans can avoid China and Russia too?
M. Mir= EMIR
GET IT? A Muzlim
We as Americans have no other course but to the call of arms…Thank you Sir for a well written piece….I would be the first to join a militia to protect Israel….I joined for 2 stints in vietnam…May G0d forgive me, but i totally despise this mongrel bast–d that we have in the WH…This is an evil man, who is the biggest liar ever to cross the Potomic River…He even has ousted bill clinton from #1 liar, to #2….If any of you good Isralites has access to the ear of Mr Natanyahu, please tell this great man to keep his intentions hid from the scum of Wash. DC….especially our cic….
As Syria progresses in it’s killing of young people (genocide) with Iran and Russia’s support also we clearly have a situation that is beyond our comprehension in the scale of it’s evil. Israel is also preparing to receive Syrian women and children; refugees from the Assad regime. The regimes and their leaders are the real evil … not the men, women and children of Iran and Syria that are being slaughtered.
Obama needs our prayers … bigtime. He’s facing the absolute biggest decision of his life … he’s in a tough spot. His decision will either be a curse or a blessing for the U.S.A. … it’s game time.
Husky–An interesting statement, that Israel is preparing to receive refugees from the Syrian regime. I have read nor heard anything about that. What is your statement based onÉ Thanks, in advance, for your response.
Why and what is your point in having that anti Semitic President speak?

There was information that the president took the position of the PA and Hamas about the “Settlements” but I can not find it so:
Analysis: Obama proposes $800 million in aid for the Muslim Brotherhood.

Had enough of this presidency yet? Why would Obama want to fund the umbrella organization that oversees Hamas, the PLO, parts of Hezbollah and other terror organizations? The Muslim Brotherhood .
I pray to HAshem my fellow Jews at AIPAC- begin to hear and see and smell the real truth behind Obummer’s talk backed by no walk.
Ros Lehtinen is great and so is NEWT on this issue. Let them listena nd understand the stakes. Understand that the entire DEM party is not proISrael or JEWS.
Obumbler will do nothing for ISrael unless heis forced to by Congress and the people of USA-an yes agree with above poster- either way Iran wins-
To those who accuse and think USA fights for ISRAEL – you are a fool- USA is fighting for a foreign interest—-> SAUDIA ARABIA, the backers of Obummer and Company.
USA has only made money from ISRAEL (in weapons sales and we also sell to Israel’s enemies the same weapons) USA toops have never fought for that nation nor sent a single soldier- not one single drop of BLOOD as you accuse (like most jewhaters do) read the words of Obamaessiah’s advisor- Samantha Powers, she wants troops in Israel alright- but not to fight for them but against them.
Buy a clue, or a vowel, you can’t guess the word without the letters on the board.
I don’t believe a nuclear attack is necessary or prudent. There would be many civilian casualties, and from what we know of the Iranian people, most are not supportive of the mullahs.
The argument is that Iran has built underground facilities in reinforced bunkers that cannot be destroyed by existing conventional weaponry. So what?
We monitor the areas around those sites and know the paths in and out – the entrances. Drop bunker-busters on those entrance tunnels and it doesn’t matter if the centrifuges deep down are safe: no one is getting to them again soon.
Yes, eventually they could dig them out again – and then we hit them again, until they get the message or are overthrown.
“Occupy AIPAC” ???
THAT could be the ugliest wild card ever, especially for Obama since so many of his CodePink/FreeGaza supporters are amongst the most ‘disappointed’ of his original base, and will no doubt be very disruptive.
I’ll put my money on Netanyahu
Read the Crash of ’79. Put conventional weapons with radioactive material across the oil fields, low casualties, simple, no need for refueling or mass casualties.
In 50,000 years when they are cool enough to enter again to pump the oil, we’ll see who is still around….
Again, as I mentioned above, Israel does not need to completely destroy the Iranian nuclear sites. It simply needs to render their entrances inaccessble to a strategic depth and/or make them inoperable. Alternately, they could completely take out one single link in the chain that is crucial for the entire production cycle to function (and be willing to keep it that way).
