Sophisticated Hatred: Democrats and America

From John Kerry to Jack Murtha to Nancy Pelosi, Democratic leaders often cannot conceal their enmity toward the nation they serve.

“Hate” is a strong word, but it’s the right word to use when others — such as “dislike,” “disdain,” or “despise” — aren’t strong enough. And it’s the perfect word to use when describing the way Democrats feel about this country: they hate America, even though they profit from being Americans.

This hatred, directed at the America our Founders envisioned, comes in different shapes and sizes. Among some Democrats it shows itself in the conviction that we shouldn’t be stronger than others nations; in others it shows itself in asserting that we shouldn’t be freer than other nations or wealthier than other nations. But in all of its various forms it is part of an ideological war against the ideals, documents, and traditions that remind us of the liberties that are ours by birthright.

Sometimes the hatred looks fat and bloated, as when former Democrat Vice President Al Gore was “anti-American” enough to secure the Nobel Peace Prize. Other times it looks like a bug-eyed peanut farmer from Georgia, as when former Democrat President Jimmy Carter approached nirvana by supporting terrorism and trying to convince European allies to cut ties with the United States in early 2008. This was on the same trip where Carter “placed a wreath at the Ramallah grave of former Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.”

At yet other times the hatred looks like Democrat Congressman Jack Murtha, an angry, slobbering, blame-America-first politician who spent the months leading up to election 2008 swearing his constituents would never vote for Barack Obama because they were “rednecks” with an aversion to blacks and other minorities. (Yes, this is the same Murtha who “refused to back down from his smears of the exonerated Marines who served in Haditha, Iraq,” Marines he described “as ‘cold-blooded’ murderers.”)

Of course, there are times when this hatred even looks sophisticated, if looking French can be considered sophisticated, as when Democrat Senator John Kerry’s contempt of America’s military became evident during his 2004 presidential campaign. During the campaign, testimony the cowardly Kerry had given to the House Foreign Relations Committee regarding his Vietnam War service was uncovered. In the testimony, from April 22, 1971, he claimed to have witnessed U.S. military personnel as they “raped, cut off ears, cut off heads, taped wires from portable telephones to human genitals and turned up the power, cut off limbs, blown up bodies, randomly shot at civilians, razed villages in fashion reminiscent of Genghis Khan.”

    I am a conservative who has rarely voted for a Democrat and never in a)the past 25 years b)for President (I am 59 this year). I do not agree with your base argument that these “leaders” on the Democratic side hate America or even that they blame America first (although often this appears logical in reviewing what they say). More to the point, I do not believe this to be a constructive approach in arguing against what they promote. It allows them to not have to answer for their actions directly.
    Case in point:
    Speaker Pelosi speaks to Hispanics in SF calling USA imigration law enforcement “unAmerican” and basically promotes lack of enforcement (anarchy)of the laws her Congress is charged with writing. Instead of this being hit directly on the absurdity of her argument and/or admission of utter incompetence her words deserve – she escapes scrutiny under the crazy Nancy blame America first umbrella. Rather than confront directly, we add some more paint to our “hate America” broad brush and move on to the next imbecilic action.
    i don’t think this approach serves our best interests.

    All too true, in my view. The puzzle is why it should be this way. What is it about collectivist, Utopian thinking that predisposes one to despise good people who are doing their best to defend and extend Liberty? Is there a single corrupting influence that is shared by Murtha, Pelosi, Kerry, Fonda and the rest of the wrecking crew? If so, what is it?

    Mr. Hawkins, thank you for spelling out in great detail the moral turpitude of democrat leadership. I have left CA due to my lack of representation. With people like Pelosi, Feinstein, Boxer, et al, I find it totally disgraceful how these people act, but even more so that the majority of Californian’s keep voting these clowns back into office. For supposed freedom lovers, they are some of the most hateful, liberty despising, control freaks who really belong in the domain of tyrants and dictators. They had better beware because they are waking “a sleeping giant” by their reckless power plays.

They have theirs, therefore they are uniquely qualified to tell the rest of America what is best for them; to micromanage every facet of your lives; to give truth to the notion that “only little people pay taxes;” and to ensure that the rest of us are kept in a state slightly above abject poverty.

    Liberal Democrats hope to hide their underlying hatred for America by claiming that their criticism is only their attempt to “improve” it. But if they fool anyone it is only themselves, as anyone with any sense at all can see that their putative “goal” is some sort of unattainable utopian fantasty that bears no resemblance to the America as the rest of us know (and love) it.

    Liberal Democrats hate America as it has been (which is why they try to “revise” whatever American history they can’t erase entirely from the national consciousness), and as it is (which is why their leader, the Kenyan-American President, is incapable of uttering a word in America’s defense).

    Good job, Mr. Hawkins, on not shrinking from telling it as it manifestly is.

    I agree, awfully corrupt politicians entrenched in power so what does this say about the VOTERS who continue to empower these same old corrupt hags.

    When are VOTERS going to be blamed for their self-generated misery? No one has stuck a gun to a PA voter’s head to vote for John Murtha (D-Traitor) so what mental sickness compels these voters to pull the lever for this political monstrosity time and again for decades?

    The VOTERS are the problem, they continue electing these tyrants.

    AWR Hawkins – you are absolutely correct. But I would go one step further. With this current government they have gone beyond hate. This government is at war with the American people. They are fully armed to destroy the last vestiges of our democracy. We have seen it in their willingness to aid and abet the destruction of our electoral system through the funding of ACORN and others with the expressed purpose of sanctioning full scale fraud. They have gerrymandered the electoral process to ensure their continued tenure in office despite the things they do. They have started down the path of bankrupting our future as they spend out of control and permanently enfix higher taxes on all to ultimately pay for this folly. And now they are looking for every way that they can to impose government controls on every facet of our life through the ruse of protecting the planet and the good of us all.

    Yes they are at war with us – only we don’t know it yet. They want to fundamentally change how we live, what we believe and what we say. Of course they will still allow us to vote – though the outcomes will always be the same. Of course they will allow us to speak out – only no one will need to listen. They are fundamentally attacking our way of life. They are rapidly taking away our liberty and our right to pursuit of happiness. Some time in the future they may also be willing to take away our life.

    Look at them. They’ve won the White House and both chambers of Congress and STILL they ‘hate’.

    The adage goes….

    Sore losers do not make for gracious winners.

    They’re proving the truth of that.

    And what are they doing with all their hatred? For America? Why, for all the world it looks to me like they are in the process of deliberately destroying America. Spending it into bankruptcy, for which they’ll blame ‘capitalism’. Then they’ll tax small businesses and middle Americans to recoup their spending.

    This is looking like a repeat of what Lenin did in Russia in the 1920s.

    The one thing they all have in common is socialism. I think they all mourn the passing of the old Soviet Union.

    And to #3 and #6, the answer is that the radical left politicians that get elected probably do truly represent the majority of the populations that they get elected from. I had a friend ask me the same question some time back and that’s the only thing I can think of. It shows how far down we have come in this country. We may be in the minority now and that is a scary thought.

    I don’t think they hate America, per se; they hate individual rights as envisioned by the Founding Fathers and enshrined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. They hate individuality and embrace the group. This is most obviously manifested in their ideas about freedom of speech: as long as your speech complies with their groupthink it is protected. But should you express your own thoughts that are not consonant with the politically correct ideas of the age you are not protected; you are instead to be ridiculed and to be shut up or shut down.

    They hate individuality and embrace the group: it is the so-called liberals that created the abomination of “group rights”. Groups don’t have rights; individuals have rights. Any rights a group may seem to have derive from the individuals comprising that group. It could not be more clear. From the Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, America’s immortal founding document, “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

It should be a prima facie case of why no respecting university history department should ever hire him. The duty of a historian is to try to get at the truth not to obscure and distort it. The author is a disgrace to his profession.

    Liberals love to tell the world why the United States deserves their scorn, and they expecially love to do it overseas, and to an overseas audience. Usually they are hypocrites, like the 60′s generation who lived off conservative Mom and Dad while they spouted rage against them.     Serve the nation is a misnomer. They serve their own egos, their own power plays, their own pocketbooks, their own small and circuitous thought processes.

    It’s pathetic to have such a crowd as Emanuel, Axelrod, Holder, Chu*, Cho**, Pelosi, Reid…small-minded, self- serving & ideologically bent men and women, unable to appreciate the spirit of the founding of this country on even a primitive level.

    Did you mention that Queen Bee Nancy (3rd in line for the Presidency) told the San Francisco church gathering (of legals and illegals) that enforcing US immigration law was…in La P’s words…”un-American” ?

    Anything, it seems, can be finagled with words. I guess Bill Clinton set the bar when as a a sitting President, he got away with lying under Oath.

    The attitude of so many liberals toward America, patriotism, traditional values, etc. seems to have developed consistent with several well known social-psychological constructs. First, the diffusion of responsibility and risky-shift. These characters were indoctrinated in American universities, graduate schools and high schools for that matter, by faculty that are self-selected toward teaching (indocrinating)their students in the art of cynicism. Also, an entire generation of “Bohemian” attitudes and behaviors(verbal and academic rewards for out-of the mainstream, illicit and immoral behaviors) has held sway in academia for 25 years now.
    When these politicians gather and share their ideology they dismantle their individuality/responsibility plus the vestiges of the tradional cultures that they were likely raised in. They became convinced these old tenets are simply too “provincial”. This helps explain the venom (not fair criticism) directed at rivals like Sarah Palin, who is not a product of their gristmills of “sophistication” and “enlightment”. It comes from deep in the liberal gut of hedonism and self-justification for their own personal histories.
    As these “leaders” struggled for acceptance in their early adult years they discovered that survival meant “shifting” their behaviors/attitudes to meet the expectations of their instructors and senior peers (just as an adolescent identifies with aggressors to survive a gang culture).
    If an individual plays a role long enough (Phillip Zimardo’s prison studies bear this out) the role becomes incorporated and the only way to manage the cognitive-dissonance (Festinger)is to shift thoughts and beliefs into concordance with the behavior. This trend is also supported by their stance on “social issues”, their past behaviors or those of their peers will direct their support or tolerance of acts (like late-term abortion) which their original upbringing (now passe’)would have viewed as abominable.
    This idea of shifting beliefs is supported in how the reverse can occur when the pressure is off by the local liberal coven and individual thought and achievement is encouraged. I will refer to this phenomenon as “psycho-political conversions” by lifelong liberals to a more conservative perspective: David Horowitz, Dr. Bernard Nathanson, Bernie Goldberg, and actor Ron Silver…just to mention a few.

    As #3 mentioned, I am praying that the silent majority is the “sleeping giant” that has been awakened and is working feverishly to put an end to the power-grabbing, “American hating” liberals in congress as well as BHO. I pray that in 2010 we can end their political careers
    by voting them out. (I am so angry at all the people who went over the cliff like lemmings to vote for Obama without checking out his record of voting in Illinois and in Washington and his background. I can’t understand why, if Obama is a legal American citizen, he won’t produce a legal copy of his birth certificate. I used to work for a city government and the birth records were public information for anyone who wanted to look at them. I think there is something screwy regarding BHO’s birthplace.)

What better leadership for a country with so many fat, lazy, self-absorbed people more concerned with the next American Idol than with the gathering storm of radical Islam, looking for the latest government hand-out/bail-out, and agitating for rights without responsibilities in a society that panders to victims groups such that the uber-victim gets the spoils.

Is it any wonder these democrats are getting elected?     It’s not all that surprising. They hate America as it exists, or as they imagine that it exists because they love the America that exists in their own minds…or WOULD exist if it were not for their fellow-Americans who see their collectivist Utopia as hideous nightmare of slavery and subjugation by our government servant.

    Naturally, they would probably see my particular subjective vision of America as a wasteland of poverty and exploitation and fear by our corporate masters.

    Happily for us, and happily for them, neither of us will likely get it all our way, and we will somehow continue to exist between the Scylla and Charybdis of both visions,(more or less), until we gakk it.

    Then it’ll be our childrens’ turn to fight over the rudder.

    Hate is important to the Democrat Party and without hate the Party would not exist.

    When you look closely at the Party you realize that it is not a political party at all but a loose collection of single-issue grievance groups, some of whom are in direct opposition to each other – labor unions and environmentalists for instance (unions need factories to organize, enviros hate factories).

    These single-issue groups are weak reeds by themselves but with a powerful binding emotion (a faschia if you will) they become a very formidable political force. This fascia is hatred.

    Without hatred for everyone else, the Party would dissolve in a week.

    (Hate is also a powerful debating tool for them – you don’t have to have a fixed position on anything or even a grasp on facts , just call your opponent a moron or poopyhead and you win.)

    Well, psssttt, I would guess Obama is more fascism oriented, in that he doesn’t want government completely subsuming business (socialism) but is, rather, oriented towards government in control of business while business itself continues to be run by business people. (izzat clear as mud ?)

    Given the difficulty of the federal government taking back TARP money from some banks who realized the true costs of accepting it (bondage to the federal government) and given that the US government is now making noises about taking an “equity” position in car companies, I think we can go with the fascist idea.

They absolutely despise the middle class, scholarly academia for the masses, Non-Statist religion, and “uppity minorities”.

    They love crisis, especially ones they artificially create. They hate the war in Iraq simply because it’s been a success as compared to the wars they committed us to (WWI, WWII, Korea, Viet Nam) that either had to be cleaned up by Republicans when their liberal bungling became too conspicuous or when the war was an utter failure from political ignorance & lack of intelligent support for the troops.

    They need to be removed, and soon. The inept idiot Obama is proof as to why they shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near a position of authority, much less in one. And his team of cronies in congress illustrate the point.

    This is why some blacks looked to the Party of Lincoln to help them affirm their civil rights in America. Both parties have screwed up on many things, but to mis-state history that is known and easy to find out demonstrates extreme partisanship to the point of moral and ethical blindness. Many were beaten and died in the civil rights movement from both parties and all walks of life to help secure the rights of blacks to be equal under the law. Trying to write out one party is despicable. As Americans we must salute all of our fellow citizens who have contributed to our liberty and freedom, no matter what party they come from. To do otherwise is a disservice to yourself, your fellow citizens and the Nation. Those that marched did so to ensure liberty and freedom for their fellow citizens.

    Their honor is in their actions and risks they took, not the damned party they came from.

    It is our honor to live in a better Nation because of their shared sacrifice to uplift our fellow man and give us a better Nation. There is no shame in that recognition. It makes you a better person to so recognize that sacrifice so as not to alienate yourself from our shared history and shared ideals for liberty and freedom. Our job to make a more perfect Union starts with each and every one of us. That is the price we pay to be citizens in this Nation and our common agreement of what we will do as citizens.

    It is a heavy burden. But the only one that purchases the priceless gift of liberty and freedom, because the blood of our fellow citizens has run from those trying to stop it. They did not stop given that cost. And we must not either as we may be called to give the exact, same sacrifice that they did and we shall not be found wanting because we hold their memory as Americans near and dear to our hearts. To flinch when they did not is to dishonor them and ourselves.
