Shameless Islamist Doublespeak Rages On
“Al-Qaeda’s Zawahiri Accuses Obama of Trying to ‘Enslave’ Arab World.” So reads the headline of a recent Fox News report, which goes on to quote Zawahiri saying things such as “Obama’s policy is nothing but another cycle in the Crusader and Zionist campaign to enslave and humiliate us, and to occupy our land and steal our wealth.”
Two years earlier, Zawahiri was even more dramatic. Then he implored “blacks in America, people of color, American Indians, Hispanics, and all the weak and oppressed in North and South America, in Africa and Asia, and all over the world, to know that when we wage jihad in Allah’s path, we aren’t waging jihad to lift oppression from Muslims only; we are waging jihad … to lift oppression from all mankind. … This is why I want every oppressed one on the face of the earth to know that our victory over America and the Crusading West — with Allah’s permission — is a victory for them, because they shall be freed from the most powerful tyrannical force in the history of mankind.”
Unfortunately for al-Qaeda, its very own words — the Arabic ones directed at fellow Muslims which Westerners rarely see or read — unequivocally contradict its repeated attempts to portray itself as an organization out to spread Robin Hood-style justice and equanimity vis-à-vis a tyrannical U.S. For in these Arabic treatises, al-Qaeda makes it perfectly clear that, short of submitting to Islamic hegemony, the non-Muslim world is the enemy, ipso facto.
Yet doublespeak is definitely not the sole province of al-Qaeda; the decades-long Arab-Israeli conflict has furnished the world with some of the most flagrant examples of Islamist doublespeak — emanating from such players as Arafat, the PLO, and Hamas. Hezbollah offers a recent example:
According to Reuters, the terrorist organization’s newly revised manifesto “tones down Islamist rhetoric but maintains a tough line against Israel and the United States. The new manifesto drops reference to an Islamic republic in Lebanon, which has a substantial Christian population, confirming changes to Hezbollah thinking about the need to respect Lebanon’s diversity.”
In fact, this “new” manifesto has been hailed as a progressive step forward for the terrorist organization: an AFP headline tells us that “Hezbollah strikes softer tone in second manifesto: [according to] analysts,” such as one Paul Salem, head of the Beirut-based Carnegie Middle East Center, who asserts that the “manifesto is reassuring as it shows Hezbollah’s integration with Lebanese political life.”
The sad thing is we’re letting it happen like helpless babies.

I have said (quite a few times) that radical Islamism poses as great a threat to Islam as it does to anyone else. Largely due to the fact that radical Islamists murder Muslims who do not support them with even greater alacrity than they do “infidels”. (By their “logic”, the latter are merely nonhuman, while the former are deliberately betraying the faith.) What no one seems to understand is that the roots of Islamist irrationality are set in the foundations of Islam itself.
When Islamists speak of “driving infidels from our homeland”, they don’t mean the MidEast. Under their beliefs, any land that was ever conquered by Islam is “the homeland”. This includes large sections of Europe (Google “Battle of Poitiers’”). Also, by their standards, Allah rules all of Earth, so it could be argued that all of Earth is “the homeland”. Meaning, that they will fight until all of Earth is in obeisance to Allah, i.e. them.
(Theoretically, if the rest of us were to somehow manage to leave Earth entirely, and make them a present of it, they would still pursue us, because of course Allah rules the Universe, so….)
Another aspect of the irrationality is that Islamism is engaged in an endless quest for Paradise here on Earth. They believe that it can be achieved, once all Muslims are Islamists, all others are either “dhimi” (slaves) or simply dead- and they can get down to the serious business of figuring out which of them is the one most perfect servant of Allah. He’s the one who gets Paradise. (Three guesses what everyone else gets.)
Anyone who says that “Islam needs a reformation” is overlooking the fact that it already had one. Its “Martin Luther” was one Sayyid Qutb, who looked at both the Islamic world and the West in the 1950s, concluded that the West was irredeemably evil, and that Islam needed to be “cleansed” of “foreign influences”- and set off the “fundamentalist” movement that has caused everyone, both Muslim and otherwise, so much grief for the last half-century. Among his “students” were both Yasir Arafat and the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.
But it could be argued that all Qutb really did was take the original writings of the Qu’Ran literally. The problem, quite simply, isn’t the people- it’s the ideology. of course, any “moderate” Muslim who dares to say this doesn’t last long. They do, however, get buried rather quickly.
The bottom line, that everyone, Muslim or otherwise, has to face up to is this. It doesn’t matter if a belief system is irrational, illogical, or plain crazy. Nor does it matter if an otherwise benign belief system is being distorted by people who are using it illegitimately.
All that matters is that there are people who believe in that system absolutely, and also believe that the system allows, or even demands violence on their part, and are willing to use violence to support that belief. And who accept no limits on their actions, even from their fellow believers.
Islamist radicals have no problem with any of these concepts. Everyone else is at risk for this exact reason.

Actually, I don’t need education. Prior to the Iranian revolution, my expectation was that it would end up communist once the Shah was evicted. I was pretty surprised when it ended up as a far-right theocracy. But force them to think about those issues, and they soon enough revert to socialism and communism.

Should there be an exemption for one group of mullahs and not for another?
