Shadow Party: Daily Kos Wants to Googlebomb Republicans into Electoral Oblivion
They’re not calling it Googlebombing, of course. Chris Bowers at Daily Kos has given their new effort a happier name: “Grassroots SEO.” The SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It’s actually search engine manipulation:
The goal of Grassroots SEO is to get as many undecided voters as possible to read the most damaging news article about the Republican candidate for Congress in their district. It is based on two simple premises:
- One of the most common political activities people take online is to use search engines, mainly Google, to find information on candidates. (For more information, see the Pew Internet and American Life Project’s report on 2008 online political engagement.)
- These results of these searches are always in flux based upon hyperlinks anyone posts anywhere on the Internet, including message board comments and social networking sites (but not email).
As a result of this, not only is it possible for us to use our hyperlinks to impact what people find when they search for information on candidates, but we would be foolish not to do so in a way that benefited our preferred candidates. We are already impacting search engine rankings whenever we post any hyperlink anywhere, so we need to make sure the way we use hyperlinks helps result in our preferred political outcomes.

The comments that DKossacks have attached to the post are revealing. Several complain that it’s ethically questionable. Others complain that once the other side learns about it, we’ll either mock it or emulate it, or both.
I’m here to expose it and point out that it’s another manifestation of the Shadow Party.
The Shadow Party exists, remember, to destroy Republicans by generating complaints against them which generate negative press for them. To that end, the Shadow Party sets up front groups to pose as non-partisan watchdogs or as non-partisan media outlets, and deploys those groups and outlets to build up an echo chamber that generates so much noise that the so-called mainstream press reports on it. The game is to ruin the Republican’s reputation, drive up their negatives, and then have the Democrat in the race win by default. In some cases that I know of in Texas, the actual Democrat being proffered is just a cutout for big money Democrats to control once they’re elected. The whole enterprise is the very “politics of personal destruction” that Democrats busily and dishonestly decry, even while they seek to benefit from it.
And here comes the Daily Kos on the back end of that. They are, by their own admission, searching out the most damaging stories on Republicans and then going to work to drive them higher in Google search rankings so that unsuspecting voters will stumble upon them when seeking out information about their local candidates. This makes DKos and its readers activists, as opposed to bloggers or blog readers. And they are engaging directly in the politics of personal destruction.
Kos will undoubtedly deny any connection to Soros or any other Shadow Party operator or funder. That’s what he did when I debated him. But Chris Bowers’ post is proof positive that he and his blog are part of the left’s Shadow Party (not that there was any doubt before). Their “Grassroots SEO” wouldn’t work as well if the Shadow Party hadn’t already laid the necessary groundwork of manipulating a willing press into hounding Republicans on these mostly bogus complaints.
Blogs and, more importantly, candidates on the right should take note of the DKos “Grassroots SEO” effort and see it for what it is: an attempt to fool unsuspecting voters into pulling the lever based not on issues, but on manipulation and lies. Of course, this isn’t new, it’s just a new version of what these folks have been doing for years.

It seems to me that when confronted by the media on any suspicion arising from this manipulation, the GOP candidate should always respond, “Shadow Party. Google it! Next question.”
This is the only thing liberals have left to do….. they can’t talk about the various “accomplishments”that have been achieved, because most Americans didn’t want what Barry was selling. They can’t point to their record on transparency, because they have been as transparent as a concrete wall. They can’t point to the Constitution and tell us they have glued it back together, because they have shredded what little bit was left from Bush.
So we will have, for the next few months, liberals dipping to new lows in an attempt to help their radical friends in DC keep their majority.
This is classic Alinsky method adapted to the age of the interboobs! “You agitate your own kind first before you agitate against the other kind”. The 2008 primary campaign saw this vividly when the left wing of the democrat party connived to take out Hillary Clinton and all her ardent supporters, driving them out of the Democratic processes of dissent and discussion. The same tactic was used quite effectively against Sarah Palin later on. The media went along merrily. Not content with eliminating all Centrist and Conservative positions within their own party, the Left now wants to destroy all Conservatism in the country as a whole. It won’t work! People learned their lesson. They are watching these lefty moves closely. The Big Mistake of 2008 will be corrected, and soon!
A word to the wise on using Internet searches. Just ignore the first few pages of any google search results. There is a wealth of reliable information to be found in the middle pages that come after the paid links, mass robotized links, astroturfed links, ephemeral links, popular links created by lazy searchers, fake taggers and other false species that populate the first few pages. The old adage about not believing everything you see on teevee works even better on google searches.
Efforts such as those by DailyKoolaid are made on the basis of two fundamentally wrong premises, widely espoused by the radical left:
1. That a piece of information (no matter how credible) generates its own demand; and
2. That the average voter is an idiot.
Both premises are wrong for the following simple reasons: First, there’s always demand for some good (in this case, info), and if so – and for a given price – there will always be supply of such; and second, the average voter is always more intelligent than given credit for.
The problem, of course, in speaking about “the average voter” or averge intelligence is that, at any given moment, half of those being assessed are below average. What does this tells us? Anyway, it’s all a charade. If a ways behind the rest, the slowest runners still cross the same finish line.
The notions of an “average voter” and his/her “intelligence level” are two different things; an average voter’s intelligence level could be high, medium or low on an (arbitrary) intelligence scale, depending on the pool the average voter is drawn from and the innate levels of intelligence of the individuals in that pool. My suggested hypothesis above is that leftists (radicals, progressives, or whatever you wish to call them) always underestimate the intelligence level of that “average voter” – thus the motto “We know better than you what is good for you” paternalistic type policies they tend to espouse.
However, to the DailyKoolaid all this is fine print.
Markos is to George Soros what Monica Lewinsky was to Bill Clinton. Memo to Markos-everyone calls Monica the slut.
It’s a bit much to get all “je accuse” at the Democrats without disclosing the Republicans own “Shadow Party” that – surprise – is taking DC based money and going after the Dems on the local level.
The fact that people on the left are emphatic about smearing Republicans with damaging news items seems rather to be expected when you have Andrew Breibert pushing his anti-Acorn stories and the Black Panther story being pushed by PJM. Aren’t these just attempts to get the mainstream media to publish politically damaging stories?
Yeah, I know, it’s terrible how the DSCC and DCCC takes DC money (they are, of course, headquartered in DC) and uses it to run smear ads against Republicans in local races.
Like the KKK , the NAACP, the nazis… you “progressives” will be shunned by all decent people of good will.
KKK, the nazis…and…NAACP????
Thats a curious statement, considering, the tea party attracts some of the dregs and sediments of the society (regardless of the income level. What has that got to do with class?). Some of them are certifiably deranged but present an articulate hail-fellow-well-met facade very well. (With all due respect, one hopes Mr.Dorrity isn’t feeling self-conscious. Again)
Its not just “racism” but sheer tasteless behavior – a man making millions, mocking a family that lost all their belongings (and dogs too?) in the fire, and mocking the man’s southern accent. Yeah he didn’t pay his fee, but aren’t there are a million other powerful liberal crazies to be called out?. I thought it was Jon Stewart’s domain to deride poor southern whites? Anyway, this family has accepted their lot and has refused all other help.
Well the senate is now lost thanks to these unhinged characters. Lets see if they behave if and once the house is won. Or continue in their trashy (window-breaking-democratic) behavior.
Yes the NAACP. The leadership has lost track of where they were supposed to be going. They are no longer interested in equality of opportunity and being judged by their character as MLK would have had it. They now want special privileges based on skin color. They should be ashamed of themselves.
There’s one MAJOR difference between us on the Right and you on the Left. We just want to be left the He!! alone!. We want the government out of our pockets, out of our retirements, out of our health care, and generally out of our business. Period. Meanwhile you support a party and ideology that wants to eliminate the private sector, eliminate freedom of choice in the personal decisions I made above, and dragoon us all into the nanny state.
A good analogy would be this: Imagine a prison, the Left sees us all freely roaming the yard and wants to confine us to our cells. The Right sees us all in cells and wants to set everyone free by tearing down the prison walls.
If you on the Left want to participate in a government run retirement program (Social Security) why do I also have to participate against my will? Where is my freedom of choice?
If you want to participate in a government run health care plan but I’m happy paying my own way and happy with my relationship with my insurance provider why must I be FORCED against my will to participate in the government plan? This applies to both Medicare and the new Obamacare.
Why is the state allowed to confiscate my income to support public schools when I would CHOOSE if I could to send my money and child to private school?
Do you not see that your ideology is the very definition of anti-choice? If you can’t see that your vision of government domination of our lives is slavery then I feel for you and your children.
Nail. Head.
“Do you not see that your ideology is the very definition of anti-choice?”
They see it. Once upon a time they might not have seen it but were mindless puppets, but you can rest assured every single one of them has now bought in fully. There’s now too much data available on the real motives of the movements that ignorance is not possible for them.
They aren’t merely stupid or deceived. Not anymore. They know. That makes them enemies of what’s left of the Republic.
The leaders see it and want to be the Warden or the Tax Collector. I think the big change this cycle is that a lot of herd now realize it. My son in law was a Dennis Kocinich supporter in 08 and wants single payer. But he now listens to Michael Medved and thinks Rand Paul has some great ideas. Of course I want to properly mold that young mind to realize socialism and freedom are water & oil.
you offer a false equivalence. The Left is trying to link as much as possible to opposing stories regardless of merit. The specific purpose of this is to manipulate the voting. Notice that they are pushing one side of the argument, not both! They are trying to work the system, not make the system work. This should be a concern to you as well as to us.
AS for Breitbart and PJM, the purpose is not to influence the election. These things are of concern to all citizens, exposing election fraud and corruption. It is called journalism, a concept with which the Left has become unacquainted.
If this administration worked to prosecute these infringement of our liberties, it would not be politically damaging to them, but rather, politically helpful. The existence of these situations is not politically damaging in themselves. The administration’s lack of response to them IS damaging. Therefore, these things are neutral… and newsworthy.
One slight difference Lefty, the issues of Acorn and the white-washing of the Black Panthers have been proven true. You simply can’t handle the truth.
Can you distinguish between smearing [SLANDERING, LYING ABOUT} people running for public office, and attacking a justice department with a policy of protecting only one race in voting intimidation cases and Acorn, investigated or indicted in a dozen states for voter fraud. That’s the equivalent of equating lying about your neighbor to attacking corruption in some part of your town government.
I wonder when Kos’ penchant for bestiality will come to light?
Huh?
Google it.
I hate to stoop to the Left’s tactics…but I say, yes, Google it, about a million times until it comes up first whenever anyone Googles Markos.
Do you expect anything less from those at daily Kaos?Thats why use of multiple search engines from time to time is a must really.I mean hasnt anyone wondered why Google search engine is with every single software package you buy?Except Microsoft of course. No, the best way is to mix up what search engines to use.Become familair with ALL operating systems not just Microsoft. There will be no where to run , no where to hide.Understand different internet protocols.Learn it on your own time.Itll cost you nothing but your net connection.Google is your friend!LOL!And Bing and well you get the idea…
Isnt this called swiftboating? Now theres a term we havent heard in a while eh?
First off, Ryan, your comments would be much easier to read if you’d use a space (or two) after the end of each sentence. It’s polite to your readers, it increases the chances that they’ll read what you say, and besides, it’s good grammar!
However, your point about multiple search engines is correct. That’s why I use Dogpile… it automatically searches multiple engines and gives ya the results on one screen.
Dogpile is da bomb!
Well on my blog there are 8 of us trying to keep track of all the October tricks. You have to be on the Left 24/7. Sometimes I wish I could just sleep.
I hope that many undecideds will not be casting ballots predicated upon viewing the results of a googlebomb. If the voter is that ignorant of public affairs chances are the twerp wouldn’t bother voting at all. However I’m not all that suprised that the latest internet smear campaign originates from the fertilized denizens of the Daily Kostard. Can you say dweebs?
One of the most popular conservative blogs in Canada has an inordinate number of engineers and computers programmers in its fan base.
Does this mean that technical people are far more likely to be conservative? If so, the Daily KOs may be opening up a battle front that they’re sure to lose on.
In my entirely unscientific experience, yes. I am an amateur radio operator (a dying art, with the internet around), and far more of my fellow hams are conservative than lefty.
I think it has to do with the fact that the technical person has to, pretty much by definition, deal with hard facts and the consequences of ignoring said facts all the time. I mean, if your circuit plan calls for a 100-ohm resistor and you only put in a 10-ohm, it’s probably not gonna work (if you’re not a techie, just trust me on that one, or ask your favorite techie), and it’s fairly likely to release the “magic blue smoke” that seems to make electronics work (a techie joke–once the smoke is “released,” it doesn’t work anymore).
On the other hand, lefties deal largely with areas of study that are far harder to prove scientifically, such as sociology, where the refusal to face the facts doesn’t have such immediate and impossible-to-ignore consequences. Mind you, there are still consequences, but quite often the consequences can be explained as caused by something else (Bush did it!), whereas in technical fields they can’t so easily be explained away (“Bush did it” doesn’t really explain why your circuit doesn’t work if you don’t solder it right).
In short, the fact that hard facts prevail in technical fields does seem to mean that they’re more likely to be conservatives… though I have known some hard-lefty hams too, so it’s not absolute.
Perfect description of leftists…but did you realize you’ve also just also accurately described all children or the immature, as well as individuals who are emotionally immature and/or defective?
All leftists are children at best; emotionally immature and/or defective at worst.
In my experiences, the majority of engineers where conservative, but chemists tended to be liberals, and physicists…well, they were their own group. Probably closer to classical liberals (what libertarians claim to be) than anyone. However, a lot of programmers were lefties of varying degrees, and the people who learn fast how to use social media are by far and large lefty, or young and naive. That’s the big problem- the people manipulating the SEOs, adapting quickly to social media outlets and us, and how to coordinate with them, tend to be hard left. That means they have a better chance of controlling the message, as we saw with Obama’s “I’m a centrist!” campaign during the last election cycle.
I still don’t think that conservatives are organized for that fight. It’s a mind-set/life-focus thing.
Not as many liberal professors in the tech fields as there tend to be in the liberal arts. Tough to politicize math. 2+3 still equals 5, no matter how the 2 and 3 feel about it.
As a European (Belgian to be precise), when stumbling on a Republican base I felt compelled to read all the way trough the comments – to verify you near mythical creatures exist as reported.
So then, it is actually the case a simpleton rhetoric of ‘all government = evil’ and ‘healthcare = Nazism/Communism’ constitutes some of your political belief system. And here I thought it possible, these where exaggerated stereotype portrayals alongside the… you know… redneck “they took our jobs!!!” south park caricatures?
Not to be condescending…
@ Eric: there’s a major difference alright – not particularly between yourself and what you ironically call the left (Democrats would fall under conservatives in the European political spectrum) – but between your type and basically the rest of the civilized world: education/intelligence. Read a book or two – Orwell 1984 would be a good start. It may help you straiten your perspectives a bit
“Education/Intelligence” “Read a book or two.”
Your position falls apart on its face. Do the commenters here actually sound illiterate and uneducated? You disagree with our beliefs and airily dismiss us as the caricatured rednecks. I challenge you to read the comments again, not for meaning, but for style and quality. Then ask yourself, if we are indeed the ignoramuses you disdainfully adjudged us as being?
Once you decide we are not, perhaps you should read again, respectfully, considering that perhaps we might know what we are talking about.
One last thing: Orwell was one of us.
Hey Stumbler…
http://philosemitism.blogspot.com/2010/10/throw-israel-soldiers-to-sea.html
Stumbler…At risk of appearing snarky, get “spell-check” on your computer. As to your characterization of American conservatives as equating all government to evil, and health care to nazism/communism……what can one say? Your remarks are so simplistic, so juvenile, that I suspect you may be a 12 0r 13 year old trying to be clever. Therefore, I will not address the condescending tone of your message, for you are, no doubt, trying to imitate a Parisian intellectual.
English is my third language but I’ll attempt to keep an eye on my spelling – there’s no excuse for bad spelling.
@ Anonymous and Marc malone
Yes, not all of you make such empty minded equations. I merely pointed out that such is the popular stereotype and that I’ve now had the privilege to confirm it, at least in some of you. But there are no doubt exceptions. I’d not assume this is the case for all of you.
However, in terms of education and intelligence it is a merely statistical fact that the American conservative base… we’ll put it this way – under-performs, this is comparatively speaking of course. I challenge your beliefs yes, but not on the basis of having perceived you as the clichés some of you are, but due to the incompetence of those beliefs (the non strawman version).
It is my conviction after all – concerning political beliefs – not all are equal; though everyone should have the freedom to his.
On Orwell : Assuming you’ve read 1984 you should realize to what extent Eric’s experience of government induced slavery, is laughable. Either a paranoid delusional assertion on his part or just a very ignorant one.

Then why are you here?
You say we should have the freedom to have our own political beliefs. We do. You’re not going to change our minds.
You may leave now.
I’m not here to argue you out of your lifelong convictions. The matter is I stumbled here, thanks to stumbleupon and ended up pointing out some flaws in your political beliefs :p
Summary: free will and coincidence are the reasons I’m here.
Actually, I think I’ve shown some of the flaws of your beliefs. See my post below about cancer survival rates in Europe and the US.
But please, don’t let the facts get in the way of feeling superior to us, even though America has bailed Europe out of two wars, not to mention protected your precious backsides through the cold war. After all, if America falls to nanny-state socialism and can’t afford the armed forces any more, you have other allies that will protect you, right?
ConservativeWanderer,
Concerning your article as an example of how one can skew statistics – that is simple not proof. It is a logical fallacy of a particular kind to believe so: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proof_by_example
I’m still the one pointing out the flaws
“But please, don’t let the facts get in the way of feeling superior to us, even though America has bailed Europe out of two wars, not to mention protected your precious backsides through the cold war. After all, if America falls to nanny-state socialism and can’t afford the armed forces any more, you have other allies that will protect you, right?”
I’m not attempting to make this into an e-pissing contest – I’m debating the positions you espouse politically. This bit is not relevant to the debate. As well I should point out it is foolish to hold up something that happened over 50 years ago in a misguided attempt to incur a feeling of indebtedness (and rather shameless).
Actually, the point is relevant, and your stating that it isn’t is just your feeble attempt at saving face.
Oh, and around here, Wikipedia is not considered an authoritative source for anything, because it’s too easily edited. I could re-edit the article you cited to say “Stumbler is Wrong,” would you accept that?
The fact is, your precious WHO ignored statistics that would make America look good in comparison to Europe. You’re welcome to provide evidence that I’m wrong, but since you haven’t yet done so, my statement stands unrefuted.
First let me start with pointing out the burden of proof is with the accuser. You made an accusation, now support it with proof.
I assume you didn’t read the link, for then you would know the concept of logical fallacy and in particular ‘proof by example’: which was the basis of your attempt at proving your accusation. You would then also realize the flaw of your argument and why it is irrelevant. Your lack of education shines trough.
If you do not wish to trust Wikipedia, then look ‘proof by example’ up on a search engine or in a book. Assuming you know what a book is…
You’re right, the burden of proof is on the accuser. You started off using the WHO ratings to accuse the US of being backward. Now you’re not willing or able to back up that accusation with proof.
So, either back up your own accusations, or be shown once and for all to be just another leftist troll who makes wild statements he can’t back up, and be treated as such.
It follows that as you have not provided a non flawed argument the WHO rating is still an acceptable demonstration. Neither have you addressed my point b). This would be sufficient if you where objectively minded.
But you are not and you would irrationally continue to argue no matter what facts are demonstrated (we established earlier that you wouldn’t be reasoned out of your convictions didn’t we?).
Consider also that my arguments where not to illustrate that the US is backward necessarily, but that your political beliefs are based on ignorant, incompetent notions.
This argument is not about Europe vs. the U.S (this is what you make of it as you have a fragile ego) but that you are mistaken on your political ideas.
And you still refuse to refute my statement as regards cancer survival rates. So, let me put it in terms that you can comprehend.
If the European/socialist model was truly superior, you’d see greater cancer survival rates among European nations. You don’t. Therefore, it is not superior.
I also stated that the WHO had not used that fact in their ratings. Since it is logically impossible to logically prove a negative (you wanted to play by the rules of logic, so I can do that), it is therefore incumbent upon you to prove the countervailing positive, that is, that the WHO did use the cancer survival rate in their ratings. And do so with evidence, as in a link to the report where it appears.
I’m sure you’ll continue to spin, but that’s OK, it just proves to any reasonable reader that you can’t really answer my challenges.
It is your right to stubbornly believe your argument continues to be valid, unfortunately, not matter what faults may discredit it. But I have refuted your notion of proof and dismissed it as such (I suppose your blinders let you miss that) and will gladly illustrate your faulty reasoning again if that is what it takes to get trough to you.
“If the European/socialist model was truly superior, you’d see greater cancer survival rates among European nations. You don’t. Therefore, it is not superior.”
1) That is where your reasoning fails. This is what you would call in logical terms a non sequitur (in simpler terms your conclusion does not necessarily follow). There is more to Healthcare then merely cancer survival rates. It would hold only in your imagination which suffers from what psychologists refer to as confirmation bias (inability to think critically on subjective matters) that a Healthcare system can be evaluated on that basis alone.
So again, what you feel constitutes proof does not. I could for instance point out that the U.S has among the highest rates of obesity and that ergo therefore it could not possible have good Healthcare. But I do not make such an argument for then I would be as equally flawed.
2) Even if your arguments where not based on flawed logic, then you still only addressed Healthcare – not education or any other matter where your ideologue’s methods lags behind on what you refer to as the ‘socialist European model’. If you reject Communism you do so, not because you are fully aware of their theories – but because you have seen the ruin their ideologue leads to (as I honestly doubt few of you have read Marx and reject it on that basis).
It is quite the same with republicanism as far as the rest of the world is concerned: The United states’s war debt, the current and largest economic crisis are some of the pearls on your resume. Now you can no doubt point out that the European model isn’t perfect. Or that the Democrats are a disappointment in their own way. But objectively quite nothing compares to your branch of conservatism in modern history when it comes to incompetence.
Honestly I have no idea how you rationalize all of this. But I imagine you (as in Republicans/conservatives) must have build up a tolerance to truth over the years.
We not only exist, but we are so numerous that we will easily wrest the government of the United States away from Barry Dunham and his puppeteers in November.
Let’s see, Stumbler. Belgium is a two part country seriously in danger of self-destruction. The Walloons hate the Flemish and vice versa – mostly a language/status issue. You are allowing nearly unlimited Muslim immigration and wonder why your crime rates are going up and “hate” crimes are occurring since you have a very difficult time assimilating these folks. Your health care and social welfare costs are absorbing 75 percent of your taxes. You have no military to speak of. Of course, you are paying for cradle to grave coddling by that government and seem content to do so. Too bad you can’t really afford it. But, I guess that beats having to work for a living.
Don’t know about anyone else but I just heard a very lould “OW!” from over Belgium way.
loud
It’s very true we pay more, and that most of our taxes go toward our systems. You however neglected to mention the benefits which accompany it (which I assume you are unaware of):
a) We have one the best healthcare systems in the world (ranked according to the WHO). We Europeans are overrepresented in this, and there are over a dozen European countries which have superior healthcare to that of the U.S (ours included).
b) Our education systems as well far outrank yours (Flanders ranks 3rd globally) and to put it mildly yours simple doesn’t work in comparison (though you spend nearly as much on it -1%).
I could go on, and illustrate further (such as Flanders having a higher GDP to yours) why exactly it is that we are ‘content’ with all of this (taxes), but you should have the point by now.
This is not to say, we live in an Utopia, we do have our issues. For example our lack of natural population growth, which spells trouble for our pension system in the future. But then again we are not alone in this, as this is a common problem in most of the developed world – and not a result of our systems though again I feel it important to mention they aren’t perfect, and I wouldn’t want to present them as such.
But overall the case isn’t exactly hard to make – at least if you are capable of objective and critical thought on the subject – that your political stances are ignorant at best. I’m afraid the facts are your enemy in this debate. Perhaps you should take off your blinders (or read some books as well) :p
Now tell us The Rest Of The Story.
The WHO is an arm of what global organization?
Oh, that’s right. The United Nations.
Is the United Nations what could be considered America-friendly?
Only when it comes time to pay the bills.
How many European Nations are represented on the WHO board?
Well, the Chairman is Hungarian, and there’s 3 other members who are European, as opposed to one American member.
Gee, ya think there might be a little bit of pro-European bias on the part of the WHO?
But, of course, you don’t care. You just want to show your “superiority” to us “barbarians” over here. Carry on, you’re doing just fine at that.
Consider for a moment, that these ranking are based on data such as life-expectancy, factors such as preventable deaths. Your implication that the WHO is biased against the U.S is rather speculative (not to mention absurd) and unfounded by proof.
And who decides which statistics to use, and what weight to give them?
Why, the people that run WHO, of course.
Numbers may not lie. People do.
Stumb,
Hypothetically speaking, who would you rather have immigrating en masse to your country: tens of thousands of Jews, or tens of thousands of Muslims? And why?
Be honest, now.
Just as an example of how picking and choosing the statistics one uses can skew results, let’s look at one that you haven’t mentioned: cancer survival rates. From a 2007 report (the best I could find on a short search–i.e. one that didn’t take all day:
Suddenly European socialized medicine doesn’t look so good in comparison to the US, does it?
Now, since you’re the one touting the WHO report, and since you’ve failed to provide a link to the specific report you’re using, I’m going to challenge you to prove that the WHO used cancer survival rates in their ratings. And I’m betting that either they didn’t, or they gave that statistic a low weight in their ratings.
You keep saying the case against conservatism is easy to make, but you neglect to make it. It would be incumbent upon you to do so, rather than saying “read a book.” Sorry to say, but that makes YOU look like the simpleton.
Also, since you’re fond of saying how wonderful your education system is, I’m curious, how well do the children of immigrants do in it? Does the enormous disparity mean your system is fundamentally racist or broken, or does it show that there are other factors to consider before one rushes to the simple-minded conclusion that students in country Y achieve higher test scores than students in country X, therefore country Y has a better education system? THINK about it.
That depends on how you define conservatism: the republican version of it, is rather easy to dismantle – no doubt. I find that I’ve made a good case, so far by demonstrating your irrational fear of Healthcare or what you derisively refer to as the ‘Nanny-state’ is ill-founded.
In practicality, it works for European countries (it is a tried and tested method for a good number of decades now) – and comparatively it yields the superior system of healthcare. Thus your opposition against it lacks a basis in reality.
Again, my point is that not that my ‘education system is oh so wonderful’ rather, I meant to demonstrate that it is better to your version – though still capable of being improved on (which addresses your point, that indeed all systems have some flaws). This ultimately however comes down to whether you believe in objective truth.
If you do, then it is a logical inevitability that either the systems are equal, or that there is a difference between them (either negative or positive).
As I believe this to be there case, my argument is that what constitutes a better education system is that which produces the better results (this is a reasonable basis for judgement not?). In this sense it is no more then an established fact.
But I realize some of you have your egos to consider and that by extension your convictions are ‘fact proof’. Hopefully however you will consider what Aristotle once said : “That it is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”
Stumbler,
You still don’t get it. Even if what you just said is true, it is irrelevant. We are Americans. As Ms. Palin asked us “Do you love your freedom?”.
Yes we do. I’ve talked to people in Europe about what conservatism is. They have no clue and are confused when I try to explain it to them. They cannot even comprehend. The reason is that they have NEVER known what it meant to be free. It is completely alien to people there.
Belgium is numb and dumb in the Matrix. It is a blue-pill country.
The United States of America is a red-pill country, and we are quite happy and adventurous as we fly down ‘the rabbit hole’.
(Note: Your words about conservatives being undereducated are not true at all. Approximately 71% of Tea Party Members have a college education compared to the general US population of around 50-55%. The right in the USA is better educated in the USA. Witness our foolish President who can’t even understand basic economics and business.
‘You still don’t get it. Even if what you just said is true, it is irrelevant. We are Americans. As Ms. Palin asked us “Do you love your freedom?”.’
Certainly, you are not obligated to advance as a society. It is your freedom to do what you want as long as it does not detrimentally affect others (no matter how ignorant or stupid).
That sir, you have a right to your ignorance, I cannot argue with. It is your god given right to bury your heads in the sand for as long as you like. Some would even argue that is above all what makes you American. Enjoy that freedom…
But remember that does not mean you are entitled to your own facts
Tell that to your friends on the Left, who lie constantly.
This November we turn them out.
To be free is not to be ignorant, but to be free to do what’s right.
Enjoy Belgium. Enjoy your Matrix. I doubt anybody is going to unplug you.
But unfortunately you have no clue as to what is right. For all your Matrix allusions there is no independent thought behind your comments. Just another conservative trumpeting electoral victory to come while ignoring the truth that challenges his beliefs. ‘Tis a shame.
Very odd. From the Kos “diary”:
When you find an article, post its headline and URL either in the comments or send it over email to SEO@dailykos.com.
. . .
That’s it. Once we get the articles we can start working to push them up search engine rankings. We need to launch the campaign early next week, so let’s gather these articles as quickly as we can.
What are the folks at the SEO project planning to do? Google is well savvy to the tricks to manipulate these rankings.
You may want to check out Google’s political leaning though. Their campaign contributions and very very close association with obama tell me what I need to know about google.
Lying and anonymously vilifying opponents is standard leftist pap . Markos and many of his cohorts are weak little metrosexuals who can hide behind a keyboard and slander their opponents without hardly breaking a sweat. The more dangerous ones are the union thugs who Obama has propped up with other peoples money and the seething underclass who can be pushed into confrontation by their class envy spewing mentors. Watch for Chavez style violence near election day and for sure leading up to 2012. Michelle Antoinette doesn’t want to give up the vacations she’s entitled to.

Daily Kos (pronounced /ˈkoʊs/) is an American political blog that publishes news and opinion from a liberal or progressive point of view. It functions as a discussion forum and group blog for a variety of netroots activists, whose efforts are primarily directed toward influencing and strengthening the Democratic Party. Additionally, the site features a participatory political encyclopedia, glossaries, and other permanent content.
Daily Kos is an example of a collaborative blog, offering comment-posting privileges to its visitors. Daily Kos was founded by Markos Moulitsas (Kos from the last syllable of his first name, his nickname while in the military) in 2002. In 2007, its parent company, Kos Media, LLC, began a fellowship program to help fund a new generation of progressive activists. About a dozen contributing editors provide content for the site, with three to four new editors being chosen from the Daily Kos community every year.
As of January 2010, Daily Kos had an average weekday traffic of over 600,000 visits,[1] and received over 20 million visits per month.[2] It is financially sustained by advertising, with Google AdSense and Blogads. The ads focus mostly on activist causes, media, and political candidates. Members can also purchase an ad-free subscription to the site if they want.
The website runs on the Scoop content management system. In 2009, Time magazine listed the Daily Kos in its “Most Overrated Blogs” section.[3] Despite the listing, Time magazine readers named the Daily Kos the second best blog.[4]
Stumbler – I wish to weigh in as well, countering the ‘intelligence and education’ amongst the ‘Conservative base’.
Statistically, the American Liberal minority does possess more academia amongst its zitizenry. However, you didn’t specify WHICH areas of ‘higher learning’ these folks possess.
I’m sure it’s fantastic to have a BS and/or BA in Philosophy, Psychology, Sociology, History, Latino/ Hispanic History, Civil Rights History, Arts, Fashion, Design, Media etc., but you see – a majority of those degrees are, well, just plain BS. For these very same people’s ‘education’ si as useful as a high school diploma or GED nowadays.
The ‘knuckle draggers’, in essence are calling many of those without a collegiate background are the very same people who run our country, military, states & highways/commerce, ATTEMPT to protect our border etc., ad infinitum.
It goes without mention, the very same people ensured your grandparents hadn’t been occupied or worse by the Germans, Italians and Japanese nearly 70 years ago.
Then again, your country/culture is committing voluntary hari kari, and have the nerve to be sanctimonious how your modus operandi is more efficient.
I’ve been to Belgium. You live in stackable houses (albeit beuatiful), lofts in great numbers. For the price is exponentially high accompanied with your bottom-of-the-barrel pay due to taxes. Most residences NEEDING roommates to afford their mortgage. All the while your neighbors blast Middle Eastern music and lines are CLEARLY drawn amongst the racial makeups.
Your once beautiful Catholic churches are rotting, falling into decay, disrepair. Attended by the few Polish residents and few Belgians still holding firm in their beliefs, while the Belgian single populous continue to practice non-monogomous relationships and not marrying. Yep, quite the role model nation.
Insult to injury, the weather is absoluetly dreadful. Portland, Oregon has better weather.. hahaha
I will say Belgium can boast of much better chocolate companies than GODIVA, though most Americans don’t realize it..!
paul_unalaska,
In terms of I.Q as well, it has been unambiguously shown that Conservatives are generally speaking below liberals. I will not post a link, for any investigative mind can confirm this at his leisure.
Most people could not admit to themselves being wrong (or ignorant), let alone others, when pride and lifelong convictions are involved. Thus for some it would be all too easy to outright dismiss this unpleasant fact.
In all fairness however, this is not to be taken as conclusive proof that your ideals are false by any means. But it is a possible indication wouldn’t you say – as intelligence is a discriminating factor when it comes to holding false beliefs?
How would you describe a person who still believes in Santa clause well over adulthood? Euphemistically you would call them less than savvy.
So it should not come as a surprise that your image as a political base, is less than stellar – in that republicans:
a) a hold beliefs contradicted by facts.
b) under-perform in terms of education and intelligence.
c) let themselves be represented by incompetents such as G.W Bush and Sarah Palin.
Ah, Stumbler.
The path of destruction is paved with arrogance. Witness the lop in the Whitehouse. Regardless of your opinions about the Tea Party’s knuckle dragging, and all the statistics you wish to bring to bear on how uneducated we are, your arguments will basically be hot air when your country has flushed itself down the toilet. Just my humble opinion of course, but I see a domino effect with the socialism being practiced in the EU.
Let’s see, Greece, Portugal, Spain, Ireland, Belguim… The Daskalides IS good though…
We have a ‘belief’ system, us tea party folk, that we have these ‘inalienable’ rights. The concept is simple, we’re simple minded after all. Yes, it kinda goes along with Santa Claus, The Easter Bunny and a prophet or two.
Regardless, after the wreckage is cleared in November, and your socialist leaning friends on the left are licking their wounds, AND the Orwellian doublethink (did YOU read Orwell???) that is spewed in the name of political correctness and global warming (er, um climate change, er, um, climate disruption) are debunked, you can re-think your arguments. Or not, as you wish.
The folks on the left, especially the gentlemen at the Daily Kos, will some day stop drinking that Kool Aid and come out of their marijuana smoked, whining, cry-baby metrosexual haze. Well, maybe. I did. Why do you think they call it dope?
I’m just sayin…
Regardless, their (Markos and his ship of fools) asses are going to be and are being soundly kicked at the polls. I say if you can’t argue them out of their immaturity, kick their whiny butts! Hey, it’s the fascist, racist, Tea Party way, isn’t it? Just ask the SEIU, it works!
So your argument is that you have no argument, but that in the end you will win and socialism will lose? I would keep your opinion in mind, if only it was to be taken seriously.
As well, I don’t recall positing that global warming is true. But I do know that the conspiracy theory that it is not, is one of your popular beliefs, and so you must have been compelled to refute it as if I had anyway.
It seems you are chasing windmills. If you are not familiar with the phrase look up its meaning. It’s also from a book (if you happen to know of others than 1984)
By any means necessary! Isn’t that the Communist’s motto?
You have to tell me do you people believe what you are saying?
Because if you do, well, then you are all seriously, seriously, delusional.
Your precious Tea Party doesn’t love you, they don’t care about you, your family, your friends. They can tell you what you want to hear but in the end they just want to help themselves. How? By taking money from the poor and stuffing it in their own pocket.
If you don’t realize that politicians LIE TO GET WHAT THEY WANT. well, then may God have mercy on your soul.
Of course we do. And that’s why we advocate for replacing those politicians on a regular basis… tell me, how long has Princess Pelosi been in the House?
And if you don’t realize that your precious Obamacrats are liars just like any other politician, then you’re dumber than the average lefty, and that boggles the mind.
Euhm I’m not a Democrat. I’m a socialist as my name suggests.
And what did you say? “that’s why we advocate for replacing those politicians on a regular basis…” Who do you replace? Tell me please because I don’t know. Do you chose who go’s into Senate or the House of Parliament? Or do the party’s chose whomever THEY want? You don’t advocate nothing. You want to keep your fake dream-reality just the way it is because you probably fear change. You fear that there might actually be something wrong with your “American Dream”.
Tell me how many people have you put into senate?
wait let me guess. 0?
Democracy doesn’t work the way you believe it to work.
Dêmos = people
Kratos = Power
In a democracy the people have the power. In a Capitalistic system the rich people have the power.
You don’t live in a Democracy as much as you live in a Capitalistic government.
There is this saying “Democracy is the theory that the common people know what they want and deserve to get it good and hard.”
In my book Democracy is choosing between the lesser of the two evils. Because in the end they’ll all end up betraying you.
Actually, America never was and was never intended to be a democracy. It’s a republic, as defined by James Madison, the Father of the Constitution. Go look it up and learn something.
By the way, what happened to all your socialist utopias? Is the USSR still around? How’s North Korea doing? How about Cuba?
“A republic is a form of government in which the people or some portion thereof retain supreme control over the government”
I think that the time of the USA being a republic are long gone. Where are your laws that restrict the power of the government? Oh yeah, you freely gave them away.
The USA is turning into a police state. It is true that a portion of the people have the power. A small portion that also have control of almost everything else in the United States.
And as for the “socialist utopia’s”.
Do you know what USSR even stands for? Union of Soviet Socials Republics.
Cuba was also a Socialist Republic. And guess what. So was North Korea.
Next time you try to be a smart ass do some research.
You’re absolutely right, Socialist Pig, USSR did stand for the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. And North Korea is (not was) a socialist nation. Same with Cuba.
You still haven’t answered my question… how are those nations doing? How’s the well-being of their citizens? How stable are their governments?
Your desperate spin is also very transparent… you accuse me of stupidity when it was clear that I knew what those nations were… that’s why I described them as “socialist utopias,” ya know. Now, you can stop the spinning and answer the question.
its not a democracy , its an oligarchy..
oligarchy:
1 the very distribution of political power in an oligarchy, which prevents wise and virtuous, but poor, men from influencing public life, whilst opening such possibility to the rich but incompetent ones;
2 an oligarchy is invariably divided, in the one hand, between very rich men, its governors; and, on the other hand, very poor men. Those latter become poor due to bad policy on the part of the state, that doesn’t prevent its members from enriching through exploitive contracts, or from becoming poor by wasting around their money and goods. Thus the poor ones become either beggars or thugs.
An oligarchy is originated by extending tendencies already evident in a timocracy. In contrast to platonic aristocrats, timocrats are allowed by their constitution to own property and thus to both accumulate and waste money. Because of the pleasures derived from it, money is valued over virtue, and the leaders of the state seek to alter the law to give away and accommodate to the materialistic lust of its citizens.
Hiya Pig,
We Tea Partiers have stopped choosing between the lesser of two evils. We’re making our own evil and REPLACING the career pols with some of our own ‘Racist’, ‘Fasicst’ pigs. After all, choosing between two evils is still evil. At the risk of sounding redundant, replacements will be installed in short order.
Oh, and when the Capitalist Pigs are in, just remember we don’t really like socialists much, it would probably be better if you orks and your brethren the union thugs crawl back under the rocks you were hiding beneath.
November is coming…
Please send these outrageous endorsements viral. If these progressive socialists stay in power we could lose the HOUSE and SENATE! Thank you.

The NRA is not a conservative organization. They are single-issue only and don’t give a darn about any other issues. If a Dem votes in favor of gun rights (which, mind you, I support), the NRA will endorse them without regard to how they voted on any other issue.
You’re a little smarter now that you’ve learned that, and will be even smarter once you realize that most other single-issue advocacy organizations work the same way, no matter how “conservative” they may seem on the surface.

I like to translate “Kos” as cause. They want a reason to go in the morning, a reason they are–all of them–better than the slobs that go for the other sie. It’s a reactive chamber, such that if you bring in the right predisposition, you will always find cause with them.
Myself, I tried to reason with them. My result is here: http://www.dailykos.com/user/barrycooper
I got booted off the site for suggesting they were hateful. They hated that.
Draw your own conclusions, but it would seem to me the haters are the people who hate, and that the people who do not hate, are not the haters.
Call me old fashioned. I still believe in reason.
Joachim,
Bwahahahahahaaa. You made milk come out my nose.
“…I got booted off the site for suggesting they were hateful.
They hated that…”
My favorite is;
I hate it when a racist calls someone a racist.
The favorite hiding place of leftist scoundrels, race baiting. Does that make me hateful? I read somewhere not to even react to those taunts anymore. It says nothing about the accused and mountains about the accuser.
“I will not post a link” translates as “I just made this up.”
You are, as the late Senator Moynihan said, entitled to your own opinion, but not your own facts.
As per your request an article link: http://www.time.com/time/health/article/0,8599,1968042,00.html
One does not need look far to substantiate what is widely known and reported on.
I’m aware that this does little to change your ironclad convictions. Thus, I suspect that it will be subjectively rejected (a claim of media bias perhaps? or some other convenient conspiracy theory at hand?).
At least, I perhaps rid you of your personal translation concerning that I did not post a link earlier – depending on how reasonable your opinions are in light of objective facts.
“But self-identification is often misleading; do kids really know what it means to be liberal? The GSS data are instructive here: Kanazawa found that more-intelligent GSS respondents (as measured by a quick but highly reliable synonym test) were less likely to agree that the government has a responsibility to reduce income and wealth differences. In other words, intelligent people might like to portray themselves as liberal. But in the end, they know that it’s good to be the king.”
In other words, the study you cite does not prove what you conclude it proves. When I decide to outsource my thinking, I’ll be sure to look you up. Until then, I’ll take your pseudonym as a warning.
MarkD,
You mistakingly accused me of making things up. Now that I’ve confronted your opinion with the facts you insist to refute them on subjective ground (as I stated you would). This makes for a predictable argument.
“But self-identification is often misleading; do kids really know what it means to be liberal?”
Good question. Except that children weren’t asked about their political affiliation:
“The participants were interviewed as 18- to 28-year-olds from 2001 to 2002.”
In summary of the actricles – the subjects where tested on their intelligence as children and later questioned on their political affiliation as adults; the ‘smarter’ children grew up more likely to become self identified liberals whilst the ‘not-so-smart’ gravitated towards conservatism.
This is stated rather unambiguously is it not? Your mind is free as always to consider this proof or not. As the expression goes ‘You can lead a horse to water but you can’t make it drink’ and I have no such expectations.
The article you read is an interpretation of a study, so I thought it wise to provide another article, a ‘second opinion’ if you will – due to what is refereed to as confirmation bias (a tendency for people to favor information that confirms their preconceptions or hypotheses regardless of truth).
An affliction you ignoramuses clearly suffer from as indicated by your response. The actual study is what you should have been concerned with instead of bending one article writer’s interpretation of it to your subjective reality.
Once more for those of you who are in doubt (or more likely in denial):
“Evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa at the the London School of Economics and Political Science correlated data on these behaviors with IQ from a large national U.S. sample and found that, on average, people who identified as liberal and atheist had higher IQs. This applied also to sexual exclusivity in men, but not in women. The findings will be published in the March 2010 issue of Social Psychology Quarterly.”
Libtards have been spreading that link all over the ‘Net over the last day. With your president screwing up everything he touches and your party being exposed as the socialists they are, I suppose that one study is all you’ve got to hold on to or to boast about right now.
By the way, have any of you geniuses bothered to find out how the studies from which what’s-his-face based his paper were conducted, who and how many made up the subject pool, etc.? I was able to dig a little bit but one of the links from the Times piece is (conveniently?) broken and all I could glean from one of the others is that 90,000 kids filled out a written questionnaire and of those 90,000, an unspecified number were interviewed in person. Surely, such a questionnaire would yield reliable information as kids, independent free-thinkers and nonconformists that they are, would never respond to questions regarding their opinions and beliefs with what they believe to be the correct or most acceptable/better accepted responses. (Yeah, that’s me being sarcastic.)
I’m not a liberal (as stated below). Merely a person capable of the critical thinking you lack. Not only that I’m European which apparently also escaped your grasp (this did not elude your compatriots for the most part).
I would comment further but at this point that would seem redundant as it is already more then obvious you lack the affinity for either reading or independent thought. I refer you to my other posts should you require further information to untangle your confusion.
Addendum:
http://www.cnn.com/2010/HEALTH/02/26/liberals.atheists.sex.intelligence/index.html
Articles will be of course be careful (reporting on scientific studies) to avoid painful conclusions and/or sensitively tread on the premise that there’s a difference in intelligence (when it comes to political beliefs). But the conclusions are unmistakable and as follows: Conservatives have a below average I.Q (very conservative: 95) . This is a statement of fact.
My, my, but you’re dedicated.
According to my handy time zone calculator, you posted that around 2am Belgium time.
Stayed up all night just to debate us neanderthal conservatives? I’m honored, and I am sure everyone else here is too.
I know, not exactly a wise thing to do. But I have a stubborn bone in me which urges me to finish what I start :p
You know how it goes: http://imgs.xkcd.com/comics/duty_calls.png
Hate burst your bubble but you’re not the first person (of the seemingly liberal persuasion) to excitedly want to share the details of some study that purports to prove that liberals are on average, significantly smarter than conservatives. I suppose that from a liberal’s perspective, being in possession of such information would serve as a much needed balm for their tender, bruised egos. After all, when all your brilliant, cherished ideals and pet theories on economics, public policy and sociology are proven not only wrong, but destructive, you can smugly mutter in defense, “yeah, well I have a higher IQ than you!”
What a great source of comfort that must be.
I’m not going to attempt to pick apart the study you cited in the magazine links because the “study” it addressed had not yet been published. Anyway, last year I read the highlights of another research study that attempted to measure and draw conclusions about “Liberal” vs. “conservative” mental capabilities as well as social predilections and noted with interest that self identified liberals are much more likely than conservatives to believe in ghosts, telepathic powers, past-life regression and reincarnation. I guess the message here is that being measured as more intelligent does not make you smarter in the real world.
It seems you are the first person to consider that I may not in fact be a liberal – but rather a person arguing the errors of conservatism while not subjectively spurred by affiliation.
However, if I had to chose between liberalism and conservatism I would chose the former. Choosing the lesser of two evils as they say. In reality though I believe that ‘there is no choice in rotten apples’ and thus as neither suits my expectations – given the option I wouldn’t vote.
It appears so far a common theme you dream your beliefs stand vindicated eventually, however naive, but as you will. It is up to the future to contradict you on that, not I. Something for you to hang on to.
I stated your lack of intelligence as no more then a possible indication that you where mistaken – it would be ad hominem and presumptuous to suppose otherwise. But regardless it was a nice point to make in order to illustrate, why oh why, you have a poor image.
Or, perhaps, CNN is following in the footsteps of Eason Jordan in only reporting the news that won’t attract the angry attentions of thugs?
Actually, this article about the Daily KOS is the good news, folks.
The bad news is that Miss Fickle Ditz herself, Arianna Huffington, is now beginning to sound more and more like a somewhat reasonable and somewhat rational moderate, and she is now expressing a certain disenchantment with Obama, also …, though not quite admitting yet that she has had an epiphany.
Too bad. That babbling and cackling ditz was such a HUGE asset to Republicans whenever she espoused the goofy talking points of the liberals with those affectations of hers that have caused all of our eyes to glaze over and that have caused our brains to shut down while she is talking, also. (Never mind that Joy Bahar is the only person on this planet who can understand what the hell that ditz is saying.)
Gawd, I pray that she won’t become a member of the Tea Party. With her opinionated, ditzy gossip and her affected Zha Zha Gabor accent, she could have them running and screaming hysterically to form a fouth party, just to get away from that ditzy old broad.
Low IQ conservatism rocks! Our ignorant conservative founders wrote thoughtless laws which gave us the freedom and ability to excel at anything! Despite our thickheadedness, we did! I can smell the envy from half way around the world! Socialism sucks, and even below average freedom loving people know it! We will throw out the scofflaws and restore our Constitution, and then we will rock some more! Down with statism, the murderer of liberty!
One simple quote from Bertrand Russel will suffice to make my point:
“The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.” And alas, so it is.
