That’s a market statement on the two major parties.” – Senator Joseph Lieberman. On September 27, Senator Joseph Lieberman sat down with PajamasMedia CEO Roger L. Simon in Washington, DC to talk about the political atmosphere of America, Lieberman’s quest for re-election, and what it is likely to be the front-running political hybrid in the 2006 race.An audio podcast of this interview is HERE.
“No Party?” I have been struggling to come up with a name for a new party where most of us in this country would fit, perhaps Mr. Lieberman has found it for me.
The Democrats have gone so far Left I hardly recognize the party, nor do I really understand what they stand for any longer. The Republicans have gone so far Right, that I sometimes fear for my rights and my freedoms.
I think a moderate from either party could win the next Presidential election in a landslide, and they will ALL try to look like they are right in the middle, but hopefully the blogoshpere will keep them all lined up where they really stand.

It is a fondly treasured dream of mine to have the chance to vote for candidates that embrace all of my basic positions:
1) Domestically liberal, concerned with maximizing the personal freedoms of American citizens, whre there are real and substantial personal choices choices available between what is mandatory and what is forbidden (it is only in totalitarianisms that everything is either mandated or forbidden). I am pro-choice, pro-gay marriage, gay adoption and open gays in the military (although I’m a straight southern male), pro -legal adult prostitution, pro-legal-adult pornography, pro-legal-gambling, pro-marijuana legalization, and pro-legal euthanasia/assisted suicide – but also pro-gun (except for unsupervised minors, those convicted or charged with violent crimes, and those who are mentally incapacitated or unstable in some clinically verifiable way.
2) Fiscally conservative – not in the tax-and-spend Democratic way or in the borrow-and-spend Republican way, but in the balance-the-books, reduce-the-deficit, try-to-pay-down-the-debt Clintonian way.
3) Realistic about foreign policy, acknowledging the severity and character of the totalitarian-minded jihadist threat we face, and willing to employ proactive and international-freedom-supporting measures to counter it.

Lieberman reminded me of how liberal he is. At the same time, I was reminded of just how committed he is to the country. While I wouldn’t vote for him under normal circumstances, I would against Lamont.
With all you Republicans slobbering all over him, it is no wonder his own party rejects him. The people of Connecticut should well remember who is rooting for this man and vote accordingly.
I said to a friend,
“The only power the people still have is the vote; but what are our choices? We’re here with our eyes open and without the representation we felt we once had.”
Now I know I am not alone. In fact, we are legion.
In the retrospect light of Lieberman’s vote on the Senate’s military tribunal bill, this interview brings to mind a single word to describe the Senator: “stooge.”
Dan – Republicans to the right? Do the math; it is only second grade arithmatic. Bush and party have been the most liberal government since another Tx liberal LBJ. He has grown the government over 50% in five years! A result almost the same as LBJ. If that is right then Ronnie was far, very far left! Ronnie vetoed 96 bills to keep anything like this growth of government from happening. I do not understand how you can call such left wing, liberals right? Most of us on the right would consider a negative growth of government to be what we need. Less government not more. “Get the government off our backs!” Do you think shrinking government is a left wing goal?
Dave, your inner child has spoken. A party rejects JL SOLELY for supporting the war in Iraq? Nothing about this guy is conservative, yet his one position supporting the US military and our efforts gets him the boot. No platform give you those symptoms.
