Senator Barrasso: Why Won’t Congressional Democrats Permit Science Oversight Hearings? (PJM Exclusive)
Senator John Barrasso M.D. (R-WY), ranking member of the Subcommittee on Oversight in the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, recently released a report [PDF]on the subcommittee’s work in the first year of the Obama Administration. The report has less to it than might be imagined — in the first year, the subcommittee has failed to meet or to hold a single hearing of its own. “There were exactly two hearings in 2009,” Barrasso said, “a joint hearing with the full committee on June 9th, and a joint hearing with the Subcommittee on Water and Wildlife on July 8th.”
The subcommittee was chartered by Senator Barbara Boxer (D-CA), chair of the Environment and Public Works Committee, to perform oversight on the science involved with environmental issues. “Senator Boxer wanted the subcommittee to perform oversight on the Bush Administration, not the current administration,” Senator Barrasso said. “We have made repeated requests to the chairman of the subcommittee [Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI)] to hold hearings [in the past year] but no hearings have been held. It has been a lost year for science oversight in the Senate.”
“There have been plenty of reasons to hold hearings,” Barrasso said. “For example, in April 2009, Shawn McGibbon, a career attorney with Small Business Administration, wrote part of a memo saying the EPA had not considered the economic consequences of an Endangerment Finding for carbon dioxide.” When the memo became known, McGibbons was “smeared as a ‘Bush holdover’” even though she was hired during the Clinton Administration. Later, McGibbons was replaced by President Obama.
In another incident, Dr. Alan Carlin, a 39-year veteran of the EPA, prepared a report skeptical of the real human impact on the climate. Carlin (who has since written several articles for PJ Media) was instructed not to disseminate the report and, as Kim Strassel reported in the Wall Street Journal, was denounced by “unnamed EPA officials” as a “climate change denier.” Dr. Carlin eventually left the EPA.

The truth hurt$?
They won’t allow it because it’s not about the environment. It’s about power. If Government controls energy, food, health care, etc., they have a strangle hold on the people. Imagine what the cap and tax legislation would do to energy costs. Same thing with other draconian measures they’d love to impose. It’s about power and control, pure and simple. That’s why they’ll brook no dissent.
Liars figure, but figures do not lie. Liars, like global “warmingmongers” think twice about lying to Congress…The debate, that never occurred, is over…
EVERYONE THAT HAS THE MEANS NEEDS TO BE IN D.C. ON MARCH 16TH TO MARCH AGAINST THESE CRIMINALS AND THIS TOTALITARIAN GOVERNMENT.
criminal indictments for criminal fraudsters.
#2 is right, it’s all about power. Example: there is a proposal to put the student loan system (Sallie Mae) into the Obamacare bill. Why?. To eventually have the ability to forgive loans if the grads work in some govt designated endeavor (community organizing). The power derives from the ability to direct workers into the govt’s preferred activities.

I have been following Climategate since the start. Even if I was agnostic about global warming/man-caused climate change, I would have become very suspicious of the climate researchers’ consistent resistance to Freedom of Information requests here and over in Britain. If these guys had data that clearly confirmed their theory, they would have broadcast it from the rooftops instead of hiding it.
Here’s the deal. Everyone can find the truth. It may cost money to do so, but the truth can be found.
Russian hackers can’t be extradited, the Russian Federation’s constitution prohibits the extradition of their citizens to stand trial before a foreign court. It also prohibits their gov’t from respecting the decision of a foreign court.
Don’t you guys think it is odd that so many Freedom of Information requests were sent to CRU and IPCC and after the denial of such requests, the hacking attack occurred? Clearly someone got tired of using the conventional channels and threw some money at the problem in a creative fashion. Such attacks can be pulled off on university research organizations with little difficulty as long as you’re smart about it.
If these guys had data that clearly confirmed their theory, they would have broadcast it from the rooftops instead of hiding it.
Number 2 is correct it is all about power, money and control of the people. Obama, Pelosi, Reid, et al, understand that clearly and that is why they are on a progressive suicide jihad to pass this supposed ‘health care’ bill through any means necessary.
Face it, the government that regulates your climate, your health and your finances controls your life.
#11 Au Contraire, someone became violently ill from sharing the stench inside CRU, gathered the information, and posted it to several computers on the outside. This work was a mission of mercy not malevolence. There is no support whatsoever for a claim to the contrary. Unless…unless…you have inside information that has not been revealed to the public. Do you?
In criminal law, they refer to Whitehouse, Boxer and Jackson as “Accessories After The Fact”. It is not just dereliction of their duty, it is preventing the facts of the fraud to be shown. This is a crime and they should be charged and tried for their crimes. I can hear it now, their defense will be “But Al Gore told me it was so!”

I don’t think there is a global warming conspiracy in the scientific community. I just don’t see what scientists would have to gain from pretending global warming exists. It has been pretty much proven to exist by most scientists, and it’s not like they would gain anything from saying it does.
Besides, what’s the problem with global warming existing? Why are conservatives so violently opposed to the idea of global warming? If global warming exists, we would have to cut back on oil consumption and create new clean energy markets, resulting in an inextinguishable supply of energy. You would think that the same party that supports using the coal and oil we have right now would also support building wind farms and solar plants, but I guess not. It’s sad, really.
Adrian, Adrian, Adrian.
Global warming/cooling phases have existed since before man. We are in a cooling phase right now and ‘man-made’ global warming/cooling has NOT been proven.
The carbon we create doesn’t amount to diddly squat in the big scheme of things.
Nuclear energy would be good. So would drilling for our own oil. Enforcing our border control would be helpful as well.
“I just don’t see what scientists would have to gain from pretending global warming exists. It has been pretty much proven to exist by most scientists, and it’s not like they would gain anything from saying it does.”
You’ve got to be kidding. What, pray tell, do you think would happen to that $20 billion per year in grant money, those nice junkets to Rio and Copenhagen, the New York Times op-ed spots and the glitter of Nobel gold, if the members of the Climate Change Indusr=try were now to go Emily Latella and say “Oops. Nerver mind?”
Climate science was an obscure little academic backwater, usually a neglected appendix of thge meteorology department, until Strong, Hansen and a few others latched onto the Paul Ehrlich RPENT! THE END IS NEAR1 WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE! racket, and sold it to the Green Weenies as the ideal postmodern religious doctrine.
BTW, the “science” of AGW is crap.
There is no support whatsoever for a claim to the contrary. Unless…unless…you have inside information that has not been revealed to the public. Do you?
Adrian, first of all, it’s not “global warming” that’s the issue. It’s clear there has been significant warming since the Little Ice Age. What’s unclear is the actual magnitude of the warming, how much of that warming is anthropogenic, and how much of that anthropogenic component is caused by CO2 emissions.
Unfortunately, all of those questions are made more uncertain by the steps taken by the AGW advocates — from the undocumented selection criteria for included sites that seem always to add warming signal, to the admitted political slanting of the IPCC AR4 report.
As far as the benefit goes, since AGW became politically hot, it’s been advantageous to support AGW in order to get grants’ there is also a very large financial stake in AGW and CO2 limitation now, because carbon credit trading is a multi-billion dollar business. If AGW isn’t the problem it’s been claimed to be, that business goes away.
Look back through some of my previous articles; I’ve gone into great detail about these questions.
The ‘Leftist/Socialist/Progressive Propaganda’
cracks me up… Why?
These are the same people who will say they are PRO ‘Illegal Amnesty’ and ‘conveniently’ forget the ‘carbon footprints’ tip-toeing across the border that will ‘burden’ our already ‘supposedly bloated’ carbon footprints.
These ‘green-tards’ are the same people who will say we all come from Africa via evidentiary mitochondrial DNA and on the ‘other-hand’ say we ‘stole’ America from the ‘Indians’. Sorry, but a lot of the best lands of the world were eventually conquered by whitey kickin’ arse after he left ‘mother Africa’. Maybe the ‘best and brightest’ of men ‘branched out’ and Africans are still ‘African’ because they are the most primitive leftovers of the bunch?
Wouldn’t it be a scary non-PC thought to say out loud:
“We are ALL Africans ancestrally, but some were better, stronger, smarter and more efficent than others and conquered lands and created what we have today?”
Look at the primitives still existing in Africa to this day? I’m sorry but, the really stupid, dumb-f*cks get left behind modern civilization for a freakin’ reason. You want to live in a tribe? You want ‘socialism’? It takes a village idiot to want to REGRESS into tribalism.
GROW THE FRICK UP.

3 words. Stock Market Manipulation.
A lot of these people and scientists are pretty loaded don’t you think??
When you read Adrian’s post on here on you know that there are countless thousands of half educated gullible, naive Obama voting fools like him still out there you will know why some people need to be protected from themselves. This guy has swallowed hook line and sinker the AGW BS and is STILL spouting it like a robot long after it has been totally debunked. He is incapable of letting go of the ‘safety blanket’ of his quasi religious beliefs. I would feel sorry for him and his pathetic kind if their beliefs and actions did not make them so dangerous to civilization.
In the words of Lord Monckton “There IS no MAN made Global Warming, there NEVER has been any MAN made Global Warming , there never WILL be any MAN made Global Warming’ .
There got it MOONBATS.
@18 Adrian: “cut back on oil consumption and create new clean energy markets, resulting in an inextinguishable supply of energy”.
What is “clean” energy anyway. To make a dent in the world’s energy requirmements you would have to cover every square inch of, say, Australia with solar panels. And have you ever visited a wind turbine farm? The intrusion into the ecosystem is stunningly worse than the equivalent in oil pumps and refineries. They are noisy, they kill huge numbers of birds and they are unreliable due to natural wind variations.
Also, the cost and complexity of manufacturing and maintaining solar or wind systems is significant and requires huge government subsidies. Why not just give that money to poor starving people or build factories where they can make a living providing products that improve the lives of others.
The market is very good at providing the optimal mix of energy sources and systems. If and when fossil fuels run out, we will adapt. When methods for employing alternative sources are viable, we will use them. What makes you think government knows better? Without the global warming scare scam, you have no reason to intrude in any way. So don’t just say, “Oh well, it is a good thing anyway”. It isn’t.
Delia:
The gov expanded across this nation and stole, killed, raped, plundered lands NOT for our NATION, but for the same Corporate abuse and profits we see going on today.
You really believe ‘history’ don’t you? Admit it… the lands taken were NOT given to the US, but to private individuals by the millions of acres on some basis, and it wasn’t equality.
We could have learned much from ancient cultures… technology is NOT king, and in fact, is enslaving us all. Sure, I use tech, but I am also NOT blind to very negative aspects of intrusion in every part of our lives and the sheer amount of ignorance from people staring at the idiot box all day long.
It doesn’t matter where we are from, the manipulators and liars manipulate and lie as they always do and then put ‘history’ in the History Books.
Adrian, Cap and Trade companies (Al Gore has a few of these, imagine that)buys credits from the hydro, solar type companies, takes 1/2 the money themselves (for wages and bonuses you know) and then “sells” green credits to the Oil & Gas companies, who then ADD these amounts to ordinary people’s oil & gas bills, power, water, food costs, etc. are all going to escalate as they have in Europe. So Adrian, who does that hurt, well it is not Al Gore, it is the poor people. And Cap and Trade also wants to make sure the poor countries of the world don’t expand their oil & gas use, buy cars and get to be middle class like you, they get to stay poor.
All based on data that was NEVER released to be checked. This is the crime of the century and people should be charged.
