Tennessee Republican Rep. Phil Roe warned that the Internal Revenue Service is going to “delve” into Americans’ personal “medical information” as part of President Obama’s healthcare law. Addressing the current IRS scandal, Roe said Congress should ensure that federal officials who “abuse power” face a “criminal penalty.”

PJ Media asked Roe how Congress should respond to the IRS targeting Tea Party and other conservative groups with audits and special requirements for tax exempt status.

“We need to investigate this and find out what the facts are. Number one, we know what we’ve heard in the news media about it. On its first blush, it smells to high heaven. I mean, it truly does and we all feared it,” Roe, an obstetrician, said on Capitol Hill.

“I mean, look, we just got through doing our taxes, we all are worried about somebody reviewing that, it’s all of your personal financial information that you have on there. My concern is that you’ve got an overreached IRS that’s now going to delve into your medical information with the Affordable Care Act.”

According to CNBC, the IRS has to “administer 47 tax provisions under Obamacare.” The agency also must distribute federal health insurance subsidies to roughly 18 million people who qualify under the law by making under $45,000 per year.

Roe, a member of the House Education and Workforce Committee, said it is “bad” policy to put the agency in charge of enforcing the healthcare law after the current IRS controversy.

“I mean, we’ve got people now that abused, apparently, abused their power and we’re going to put them in charge of the most personal decisions we make and that’s the healthcare we get. I think it’s bad. I think we need to peel the onion back,” Roe said.

“I would implore people to come out and be forthright, tell the truth and let’s move on with this and then let’s put safeguards and penalties in there so when someone does abuse power, there’s a criminal penalty for it.”

PJ Media also asked Roe if he thinks Obama was aware the IRS was singling out conservative organizations with special reviews for nonprofit status.

“If you do not know those things then you’re not hiring the right people to inform you of those things. I would think that the president would know that,” Roe said.

“If you’ve got something that’s going to smear your administration like this, you better know and if you don’t, you need to fire the people that are not telling you.”

Roe connected the IRS scandal to the Benghazi terror attack controversy, telling PJ Media that “there’s no way” Obama was not aware of the situation as it unfolded.

Roe compared White House Press Secretary Jay Carey to “Baghdad Bob,” a Saddam loyalist known for his propaganda press briefings during the war in Iraq.

“That’s who Jay Carney looks like, trying to defend the indefensible,” Roe said regarding Benghazi.

Not that I like the idea of the IRS having access to medical records, but there is a bigger issue - and it was revealed by Miller's statement regarding bad customer service, erroneous advice and one of the Congressman's notes about a constituent waiting 3 years for an answer. This is where the dangers of having the IRS in control of health care lie.

Anyone who has received a notice from the IRS accusing them of a mistake on the federal return knows how long it takes and how difficult it can be to correct them - if you can correct them. Over the years I've received 4 different letters telling me that at least one of my children wasn't mine. One letter stated that I hadn't made payments that I not only had made, but had receipts and cancelled checks for - it took 2 years to clear that one.

What happens when the IRS has the power to determine whether your policy is sufficient? or that you no longer qualify for a subsidy? or the numerous other ways that an erroneous letter from the IRS could disrupt your insurance coverage?

The IRS having full access to my medical history is repugnant, I'm already ashamed to say I live in California. The whole idea of the United States of America was to insure us of our individual rights and freedoms. I'm beginning to wonder why anyone bothered to fight the Revolutionary War, we seem to be headed back to a "king" and his cronies and taxation without any representation.

People need to quit referring to "it" as obamacare. The correct name is "The Affordable Healthcare Act". Anyone with the remotest hint of intelligence can see it's anything but affordable and will be more intrusive than a cancer tumor and will probably have the same results.... more deaths.

What's even scarier jao, is that the full name they came up with is " The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act". I'm sure sick people will be looking to a government agency for protection , especially after what we've seen lately.

It boggles my mind how people want the federal govt. to handle anything. They have a monopoly with the postal service and it loses money, if you managed a retirement fund like social security, you would be in jail for running a Ponzi scheme. The national debt, they can't even manage their own money. Deeds speak louder than words. They are going to manage the health care system! As the saying goes, " Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. " America has a lot of gullible people. They want someone to take care of them and they are not concern with the consequences. The American independent spirit is not completely gone but it's fading. As Americans we need to reconnect to the pioneer spirit.

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Obamacare is all about POWER. Only an idiot would not understand that from the outset. There's NOTHING honorable about it ... absolutely nothing because it's all an affront to freedom; the kind of thing that only Nazi's wannabees could dream of concocting. Obamacare is a vehicle by which every aspect of our lives can be used and controlled by the DC power elite (i.e. Neo Nazis like morons). This entire anti-American monster HAS TO BE REPEALED and condemned to eternal fire. NO COMPROMISE!!!
That the overreach and control of Obamacare is news ... is even scarier. Imagine for a minute, the kind of minds involved in writing a 2,000+ page document designed to control every aspect of our lives and placing the power to do so into the hands of a few. Now tell me that that isn't insane!!!!
