The Conyers family is just the political gift that keeps on giving, aren’t they? The latest: John Conyers III, Thanksgiving weekend, a vehicle registered to the government, and a whole lot of concert tickets.
The son of Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., says items were stolen out of the government vehicle he was driving last Wednesday in downtown Detroit, FOX 2′s Simon Shaykhet reports.
John Conyers III, 20, told police two Apple MacBooks, valued at $1,100 apiece, and more than $27,000 worth of concert tickets to the Fillmore were stolen out of a burgundy 2010 Cadillac Escalade registered to the 14th Congressional District.
Hm. Low-end MacBooks and 27 large in concert tickets for one specific venue? There is undoubtedly a whole lot more to how those items ended up getting stolen from a $70k car, while the car itself wasn’t stolen at all. I’m thinking that the thieves weren’t intimidated by the fact that the Escalade is a GOV (government owned vehicle). So why didn’t they take it?
I don’t have an answer or even a good guess at this point. It’s just..weird.
It’s also weird that Conyers has a GOV that he wheels around town in. We’re not talking Washington, D.C., here, we’re talking Detroit. Conyers’ home district. You’d think that a man who makes $170,000 per year can afford to pay for his own wheels.
Oh, but I forgot. This is a Conyers we’re talking about here. As in the husband of Monica Conyers, who called one of her colleagues on the Detroit city council “Shrek” during a city meeting (subsequently losing a debate with 8th graders about that incident), and who is currently serving prison time for bribery. So ok, abusing the public trust in flashy and flagrant ways fit the family.
So there’s no reason to wonder a) why Conyers has a GOV in his home district, or b) why Conyers III was out in that GOV for a night of whatever it was he was up to. In all likelihood, this wasn’t the first time he’d taken the car out for private purposes. It was just the first time that doing so resulted in a police report.
Still, I ponder: How’d he get ahold of $27,000 in concert tickets to the Fillmore, why was he driving around town with them, and why did the thieves steal those but not the much more valuable car they were in?
And yeah, I’m curious about what was on those MacBooks too.
Something here doesn’t add up.

Life is good in the Congressional Black Caucus.
John Conyers most likely feels entitled because of his dark skin. He is merely getting “pay back” for perceived past injustices. The evil white establishment owes him big time. It appears that Conyers’ son has been treating government property as his own. This definitely does seem to be the very first time he has driven a federally owned vehicle. It is outright illegal. Did the son report the alleged theft to the police before notifying his father? I strongly suspect that Congressman Conyers is very upset that this crime has made front page headlines. The new Republican controlled house of Representatives now have every right to thoroughly investigate the incident. Conyers cannot be a happy man tonight.
A little ‘reparations” for da folks, nothing more. Obama would be pleased, redistribution…
unlike the conyers’ the thieves were smart
His race has nothing to do with it. His time in office does. How many politicians have we seen go rotten in office? How many of them were freshmen?
It is hard to resist the lure of power and money. I’m not sure I could. The sense of doing great things that entitles one to a wonderful salary and perks galore…
I wish Him and his son peace. I recommend becoming a Buddhist. Of course the constituents may not like it…
Gork, please tell us which members of the CBC are not abusing their positions? Would it be those that gave scholarships for the poor to their own families? Perhaps Charles Rangel, the thief from NY? Or maybe Mr Jefferson, who was caught with $90,000 cash in his freezer? Or Maxine Waters, who stole from us all to prop up her husband’s bank? Or maybe those that hear “racist” remarks that were never uttered aloud? There are many rotten politicians that are not in the CBC, but they are a subject for another day.
They couldn’t hot-wire it? The steering wheel was locked? These particular thieves traffic portable goods, not cars?
Kuddos to the moderator for banishing the truth. Pinhead.
Huh?
I used to live in Detroit—and have followed the political career of John Conyers for years. He has always been a race baiter. There has also been something of a tacit agreement between Republicans and the MSM: you don’t investigate the possible misbehavior of black politicians and bureaucrats—and we won’t call you a bunch of racists. This is the number one reason why ACORN got away with its chicanery for so many decades. Conyers has taken it for granted that virtually nothing he does will result in any negative repercussions. The guy was even recently, for heaven’s sake, viewing a Playboy magazine in public view. He perceives himself as untouchable. It is easy to understand how he might nonchalantly allow his son to illegally drive a government vehicle.
“We joined the Marines because we wanted to live our lives by a certain code, and we found it in the Corps. Now you’re asking us to sign a piece of paper that says we have no honor. You’re asking us to say we’re not Marines. If a court decides that what we did was wrong, then I’ll accept whatever punishment they give. But I believe I was right sir, I believe I did my job, and I will not dishonor myself, my unit, or the Corps so I can go home in six months… Sir. “
Pardon?
I hope you’re talking to yourself because nobody else has any idea wtf you’re talking about. Pinhead indeed!!!
Thieves smart? Just show up to the event and arrest the people who use them. Next time find something that is untraceable.
Detroit was the original “Model City”, you know; the end result of all the progressive largesse coming in the form of the likes of Kwame Kilpatrick and the Conyers. None of it makes any sense unless you have the stomach to view it through a large lens of corruption. Which is what has slowly been happening and I suspect will accelerate now that the 14th is just one small blue speck in a great sea of red after the November elections.
Golly, were those REAL tickets or tickets that young Conyers printed himself?
As much as I honor and respect Congressman Conyers, I am beginning to wonder if there isn’t some causal effect between being a member of the Congressional Black Caucus and criminal activity. Look at Hastings, Jefferson, Rangel, Waters and so on.
Of course, Congresswomen Kilpatrick, also a member (chairman?) of the CBC may also be involved; her son, Kwame, former mayor of Detroit, is in jail for corruption and may have needed the cash from fake tickets for some noble project.
I can’t speak for THIS case, but IMEx every time I have encounter a ‘magic thief’ ( you know – where a whole lot of expensive stuff is somehow in a car/truck for no real reason, and then the car is broken into without any damage, and then only the ‘sale’able stuff is somehow gone) it isn’t theft at all. Well, at least not ‘stranger’ theft. In every case I have suffered it has been an employee/driver who pawned/sold the stuff and then is making the excuse that it ‘fell off the truck’.
I worked at a business that was broken into. The owner had a list of “stolen” items that were handed to the insurance company. A fellow employee found the list, and there was a bunch of stuff on there that was never in the office, or items that were stolen were hugely inflated in value, such as a small stereo radio being reported as an expensive “sound system”. My impression of the owner tanked. Apparently, though, it didn’t fool the insurance company, and the settlement received was pretty much in line with the stuff that was actually taken, which wasn’t much.
That’s a lot of tickets to one event to have laying around in a car. Did they offer any explanation as to why they had so many? Fakes, or stolen to begin with, and “re-stolen”? My guess is that we’ll never know.
Why wasn’t that Government owned vehicle a mere basic Chevy?. Was a Cadillac Escalade really essential? Of course not.
Just another example here of “stick it to the man”. Glitz trumping common sense…again.
Only an utter moron would drive an Escalade into downtown Detroit, Michigan, and leave it parked with $27K worth of property inside! He got just what he deserves.
I would never conclude that ANY Conyers was NOT an idiot, but it does seem just as likely that there were no MacBooks or concert tickets in the car and John III just wants insurance dollars to pay for his next drug fix or maybe to pay off his bookie.
And given John the Elder’s political position, it may be that the insurance company (or is that simply the U.S. taxpayer? we may self-insure) will pony up all the dollars to cover what John III lists as stolen. To do otherwise would be raaaacist.
Com’on you dont really believe the items were ‘stolen’ do you?either
a. they were never in the car.
b. they were counterfeit tickets to be sold.
c. it was an inside job to raise immediate funds.
d. it was a payoff to fix a debt.
I, myself go for c. And the father did not know about it.
I have to think that the tickets were “stolen” by Conyers son himself.
Its a black politician thing, you wouldn’t understand.
Sincerely,
Wm. Jefferson
…damn it feels good to be a gangsta…
Isn’t Conyers one of those global warming guys?
Why, yes, he is.

And his GOV is an Escalade???
For shame.

Par-tay, how insensitive for using eubonics in a non-endearing context, you honky redneck you, kiss the north forty of my grove thing.
It would be nice if the pubbie congress would actually go after the crooks in the house but I’m sure they’ll slink off cringing in fear of the ‘raaaaacist’ slander the media will paint them with. Plus what good is a congressional censure when obammy’s justice department would never prosecute one of their own?
It seems that every time I see an article on some abuse of government I think I see a solution that involves transparency and a simple process change. Wage slave? W-2. Independent contractor or investor? 1099-MISC. Independent contractor doing NO work but getting government “INCOME, Redistributed”? NO REPORTING! All of these types of things are benefits that deserve income reporting just like the working man. You don’t have to tax it. You do have to report it via IRS FORM 1099-GOV. It is time that “income” and “income, redistributed” get handled the same way! They both apparently pay for rides, food, and entertainment.
