@ Captain Obvious

George W. Bush and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson initiated the takeover of our banking system and bailed out AIG (TARP I). They created the very laundering mechanism that sent US taxpayer dollars overseas to pay AIG's claims to millionaire German and Swiss bankers.

Why would I want these people to hold political power in my country? They are part of the team of politicians devoted to destroying it - as evidenced by their actions.

Republicans Olympia Stowe, Susan Collins and Arlen Specter cast the deciding votes enabling Barack Obama's Socailization program.

Why would I want Republicans in office when they're enabling the destruction of our democracy?

Vote. Them. All. Out.

craig, what #4 was saying is that hoarding cash decreases monetary velocity, offsetting some of the effects of increasing the money supply.

Another idea for going Galt:
http://www.galtslist.com/classifieds/blog/going-galt-for-charity/
(And the site is an absolute treasure trove of Photoshopped Obama)

As for cannedjam's point: my family put down over 20% on our house (which was about half the house we could have qualified for) on a 15 year fixed. We haven't had a car payment since 2002 (saving up and paying cash for the last new one). We haven't carried a balance on a credit card for more than 4 months in the last 25 years. It's called financial responsibility and living well within one's means.

My college-aged son has the same type of spending habits... And may end up having to emigrate to avoid having to pay for the current nightmare of American spending of money people, corporations and governments don't have. His engineering skills and knowledge of Chinese can find use elsewhere if need be. The rest of the family may follow behind him before its done.

I am a Tea Party participant and, as soon as my kid is out of college next year, I am also John Galt.

Someguy, Lily, Howtogogalt, in addition to your suggestions and comments (all of which I applaud) we need to get behind the "front line" people who would be in office right now had the MSM and Washington insiders not united against them. Whether you are a Team Sarah supporter, or on Team Huck or support Ron Paul or another conservative, get behind them NOW--and encourage them to get together.

The tea parties got 0.1% to 0.2% of the U.S. population. What part about "you don't have the numbers" don't you understand? If you want to accomplish something you can't use numbers alone, but simply using numbers alone is all your leaders have been able to come up with so far.

Your leaders' inability to do basic math extends to Barnett's proposal; I point out how it would just be a waste of time <a href="http://24ahead.com/tea-party-hilarity-randy-barnett-promotes-constitutional-con" rel="nofollow">here</a>.

A much better way to do things is described at my name's link. It uses leverage, where even just one smart person doing something in an effective way could have a major impact.

The thefts of tax money have reached tremendous proportions. Just in one "misappropriation" the amount was $36 Billion Dollars. When AIG paid out to French and German Banks this amount [ http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2009/04/023233.php ] there was no explanation as to why; contractually it was not owed. If you can in the matter of AIG switch enough money to foreign banks with out reason or oversight or explanation, you could pay every member of Congress over $65,000,000 dollars.

This is just one case of a possible theft of billions of dollars. Now there is a push for a 'budget' in the trillions. There is huge amounts of money being wasted, thrown away and just being disappeared. We are dealing with people who steal for a living for the most part, these people in Congress are not our friends and they certainly are not looking out for our best interest. Money is disappearing at an alarming rate with no one knowing where its going, that is your money and its you that will have to pay it back.

I like the idea of starving the government of tax receipts. However, I notice that they circumvent these efforts by increasing tax rates, or borrowing more thus indebting us.

The only way to ultimately win is to re-educate the people, to help them understand the dangers of big government, and to then vote out these awful, power hungry people.

I would add to what howtogogalt says by suggesting that what money you do put in banks needs to be put in your small, local bank rather than one of the huge multi-nationals.

Obama has promised to fix the banking system, if we can make it look like he has failed more and more people will start questioning his other programs.

<i>"4) Keep some cash at home! ... Obama and Bernanke are printing money hand over fist using inflation to destroy the value of your money. We can fight them back by taking some cash back out of circulation and not putting it in the banks."</i>

I agree with having some emergency cash at home. But it's no hedge against inflation, because your hidden cash inflates right along with all the circulating cash. The value at which you put it back into the economy later will be the then-current value, not the value at which you took it out. If you want that kind of hedge, you need to buy and hold hard commodities.

Traitorous Tyranical Thieves!

Maybe our next Teaparty can have signs with pictures of weapons, instead of slogans about quitting spending, to which the pols clearly aren't paying much attention.

I'm not advocating violence. However, if the pols don't make some major reversals soon, it'll be all that's left to US.
