We have been so incensed over the way the media has tried to marginalize those of us who have organized, attended, and supported the Tea Parties. In that light, a new website has been born to try to get the message out about who we are!
Until Americans themselves get their financial houses in order they will not demand that Washington do the same.
I bet most of the people at the Tea Parties were responsible Americans without rampent personal debt, how can you expect someone who is still paying for a lunch they had four years ago on their credit card to understand the risk we as a country are putting ourselves in by leveraging our future in the form of insane debt.
Once more Americans become responsible adults, only then will Washington be a reflection of those values.
Just defer your income. Pay out enough to yourself to live on, and give up parties and certain discretionary spending for a couple of years. Let the progresivity of the income tax bite the other way.
We are witnessing a systematic destruction of our institutions and economy and the Republicans in the House and Senate are whimpering in their chairs. Yes, there is a lot of fear in the air. Even conservative stalwarts are saying that there is nothing short term we can do. I disagree. I say “Stand and Fight”. The tea parties are a promising sign but what we need is a POWERFUL and BOLD gesture. I suggest that every single Republican should walk out of their offices and gather in front of the Washington Memorial and DEMAND that there be a full accounting for every dollar spent on the TARP and in the STIMULUS BILL before another item is taken up in either house. Shut it down. Make this boycott the lead story every day. Ask the citizenry angered about this incredible irresponsibility to come out and join them. Make this about accountability. Every day until everyone in this country understands that the Congressmen and Senators that voted for the TARP and STIMULUS have betrayed the public trust. There are already 20 investigation underway involving fraud with the TARP funds. And this is only the beginning. This is going to blow up like a giant rotten carcass. The Republicans must do this now before it is too late. Stand and fight.
Your government is taking the tax dollars you are paying it to GM. It is also laundering your money through AIG to send billion-dollar checks to millionaire foreign bankers. It’s is not sustainable.
Going Galt is not easy, but you can make a contribution in small, unexpected ways:
1) Defer your income – If you are already very well off, and you can afford to have your employer defer your income to a future year, DEFER. Work for free now and pay no tax while they are in office, with the promise that you’ll get income down the road. Then, make it clear to the government that you will continue to defer your income until these billions are reclaimed.
2) Have your wife (or you) re-engage your children: Most spouses work for very little money by the time you pay for the child care expenses, plus the taxes on the second income, plus the additional taxes you pay on the first income because the second income pushes you into a higher tax bracket. RUN THE NUMBERS – you’ll be surprised how very little your second wage-earner is actually making while someone else raises your kids. QUIT THE SECOND JOB. Forgo that income. Defy Obama. Take back the tax dollars on that income and instead, put it to your children’s future by raising them yourselves.
3) Stop spending! Unnecessary Spending = unnecessary sales taxes. Most of the products you are buying are made in China, so every dollar you spend on such items is shipped out of our country. Stop doing that. Stop shopping at Wal-Mart. All you’re doing is creating unemployment here in America. The side benefit is that you deprive badly run bloated state governments of sales tax revenue.
4) Keep some cash at home! It’s just a good idea to have a few thousand dollars at home anyway for emergencies. Get a fire safe for several hundred dollars and put away a few thousand dollars. Obama and Bernanke are printing money hand over fist using inflation to destroy the value of your money. We can fight them back by taking some cash back out of circulation and not putting it in the banks. Remember: What they can’t find, they can’t tax and they can’t redistribute.
5) Work for cash or barter, if you can. Tim Geithner had it right: Cash income (like his reimbursements from his employer) is frequently not taxed. Keep that cash at home, spend it on everyday expenses, like our Treasury Secretary did for years and years and years. It’s how he became a millionaire. He knows the ins and outs. Follow his lead.
Going Galt doesn’t mean quitting your job and putting your family in jeopardy. It means depriving the government of your services in every way possible that you can without putting your family in jeopardy, while at the same time being very vocal about why you’re doing it.
You have to deprive the government of your taxes, and then vote them out at the same time. VOTE ALL OF THEM OUT. Republicans and Democrats alike. They’re all in it together anyway. Remember: Bush and the Republicans started the bailout train.
Good start – cancelling your print and cable subscriptions. Be sure to tell them the reason why when you call and they beg you to remain.
Start attending local government meetings, and State if you can spare the time. Make YOUR voice heard.
Join others – there’s strength in numbers.
If you see trolls on blogs – respond to them. Let them know we aren’t going to take it any more.
Let your friends know how the MSM is lying or not telling the complete truth. Recently YouTube scrubbed videos of Bush wanting to put restraints on Fannie & Freddie & old Barny saying NO, “we need affordable housing.”
The site is still available in a Canadian link.
If your friends are offended by your views, get new friends. The war has begun – you must choose which side you are on.
Maybe our next Teaparty can have signs with pictures of weapons, instead of slogans about quitting spending, to which the pols clearly aren’t paying much attention.
I’m not advocating violence. However, if the pols don’t make some major reversals soon, it’ll be all that’s left to US.
“4) Keep some cash at home! … Obama and Bernanke are printing money hand over fist using inflation to destroy the value of your money. We can fight them back by taking some cash back out of circulation and not putting it in the banks.”
I agree with having some emergency cash at home. But it’s no hedge against inflation, because your hidden cash inflates right along with all the circulating cash. The value at which you put it back into the economy later will be the then-current value, not the value at which you took it out. If you want that kind of hedge, you need to buy and hold hard commodities.
I would add to what howtogogalt says by suggesting that what money you do put in banks needs to be put in your small, local bank rather than one of the huge multi-nationals.
Obama has promised to fix the banking system, if we can make it look like he has failed more and more people will start questioning his other programs.
I like the idea of starving the government of tax receipts. However, I notice that they circumvent these efforts by increasing tax rates, or borrowing more thus indebting us.
The only way to ultimately win is to re-educate the people, to help them understand the dangers of big government, and to then vote out these awful, power hungry people.
The thefts of tax money have reached tremendous proportions. Just in one “misappropriation” the amount was $36 Billion Dollars. When AIG paid out to French and German Banks this amount [ http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2009/04/023233.php ] there was no explanation as to why; contractually it was not owed. If you can in the matter of AIG switch enough money to foreign banks with out reason or oversight or explanation, you could pay every member of Congress over $65,000,000 dollars.
This is just one case of a possible theft of billions of dollars. Now there is a push for a ‘budget’ in the trillions. There is huge amounts of money being wasted, thrown away and just being disappeared. We are dealing with people who steal for a living for the most part, these people in Congress are not our friends and they certainly are not looking out for our best interest. Money is disappearing at an alarming rate with no one knowing where its going, that is your money and its you that will have to pay it back.
The tea parties got 0.1% to 0.2% of the U.S. population. What part about “you don’t have the numbers” don’t you understand? If you want to accomplish something you can’t use numbers alone, but simply using numbers alone is all your leaders have been able to come up with so far.
Your leaders’ inability to do basic math extends to Barnett’s proposal; I point out how it would just be a waste of time here.
A much better way to do things is described at my name’s link. It uses leverage, where even just one smart person doing something in an effective way could have a major impact.
Someguy, Lily, Howtogogalt, in addition to your suggestions and comments (all of which I applaud) we need to get behind the “front line” people who would be in office right now had the MSM and Washington insiders not united against them. Whether you are a Team Sarah supporter, or on Team Huck or support Ron Paul or another conservative, get behind them NOW–and encourage them to get together.
As for cannedjam’s point: my family put down over 20% on our house (which was about half the house we could have qualified for) on a 15 year fixed. We haven’t had a car payment since 2002 (saving up and paying cash for the last new one). We haven’t carried a balance on a credit card for more than 4 months in the last 25 years. It’s called financial responsibility and living well within one’s means.
My college-aged son has the same type of spending habits… And may end up having to emigrate to avoid having to pay for the current nightmare of American spending of money people, corporations and governments don’t have. His engineering skills and knowledge of Chinese can find use elsewhere if need be. The rest of the family may follow behind him before its done.
I am a Tea Party participant and, as soon as my kid is out of college next year, I am also John Galt.
George W. Bush and Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson initiated the takeover of our banking system and bailed out AIG (TARP I). They created the very laundering mechanism that sent US taxpayer dollars overseas to pay AIG’s claims to millionaire German and Swiss bankers.
Why would I want these people to hold political power in my country? They are part of the team of politicians devoted to destroying it – as evidenced by their actions.
Republicans Olympia Stowe, Susan Collins and Arlen Specter cast the deciding votes enabling Barack Obama’s Socailization program.
Why would I want Republicans in office when they’re enabling the destruction of our democracy?
a good place to start would be to boycott the networks. without their amen corner, they would be easier to control.
Unless enough taxpaying citizens start voting them out of office, they won’t have to pay attention.
We are making them listen! and we are boycotting the media!

Another idea for going Galt:

craig, what #4 was saying is that hoarding cash decreases monetary velocity, offsetting some of the effects of increasing the money supply.
