Projection: Accusing Israel of Its Attackers’ Crimes
If Israel is guilty of massacres, rapes. and mass expulsions — ethnic cleansing — than why should anyone object if someone says it?
Tony Kushner cites an Israeli historian, Professor Benny Morris, as his source for charging that Israel was “born in sin”; Morris therefore is at the core of this controversy. Although Morris accuses the IDF of massacres, rapes, atrocities, and expulsions, he has recently attempted to explain this as necessary in order for the survival of the state. After all, most countries commit such crimes, or worse. But are his charges true, and if so, why blame Kushner and others for believing them and using them to attack Israel? (Read more on the recent Kushner controversy here.)
Ethnic cleansing of Jews is official policy in Arab countries; it was never advocated or practiced by Jews against Arabs. In 2005, the Sharon government carried out an ethnic cleansing of Jews from the Gaza Strip and it is advocated by some in Judea and Shomron.
Ethnic cleansing is central to the PLO and Hamas charters, broadcast daily in PA-sponsored media, taught in schools, and preached in mosques. Jews are not allowed to live in PA-controlled territory and nearly all Jews who lived in Arab countries were slaughtered or expelled.
Ethnic cleansing and genocide are part and parcel of Palestinianism, Islamism (like the Muslim Brotherhood), and the Arab war against Israel.
Charging Jews with this offense reflects a psychological twist – projection — in which the perpetrator accuses his victim of provocations and the crime instead of accepting his own responsibility. Morris provides the historical “facts” to legitimize charging Israel with ethnic cleansing, massacres, and atrocities; his “evidence,” however, is questionable and his narrative spurious.
Morris charges that Israeli troops committed a “major atrocity in the (Arab) village of Hule,” in which they “rounded up local males and POWs, crowded them into a house, shot them and blew up the building” (1948, p.344). His sources? A secondary, far-left newspaper article written 30 years later and a book published in 2000.
Even more surprising is his use of unreliable secondary sources and unverified Arab claims for accusations of “massacres” and “atrocities,” and his admission that he had no access to crucial material where investigations were carried out.
More problematic than what Morris contends is what he omits: that given the opportunity, the Arab forces would have wiped out the entire Jewish community in Israel.
What is also omitted by people such as Tony Kushner and by people such as Benny Morris is that:

This from a journalist who spent weeks of his time witnessing and reporting on the riots in Egypt (see comments in Pajamas Media) and never once noticed, never once, any Muslim Brotherhood participation and yet, magically, that selfsame organization has been slowly and surely taking over the reins of the new government of Egypt. Everything you wrote is nonsense. First of all, I am not a journalist nor have I ever made the claim of being one; I’m not even a writer – it is a hobby. I have never once in my life submitted an essay to any entity.
Secondly, I wrote this on Feb.16: “…once the protests started gaining traction the MB hopped on board but in terms of being in on the ground floor of the uprising they were nowhere to be seen.”
And this from an April 9 essay based on my notes taken DURING the uprising:

Everyone knows the MB were there and I have never said otherwise. What I said was that they never led the uprising and that they never could have pulled it off themselves. They publicly stated before the Jan.25 start of the uprising that they would NOT participate.

Five years ago our television screens were dominated by pictures of Kosovo-Albanian refugees escaping across Kosovo’s borders to the sanctuaries of Macedonia and Albania. Shrill reports indicated that Slobodan Milosevic’s security forces were conducting a campaign of genocide and that at least 100,000 Kosovo-Albanians had been exterminated and buried in mass graves throughout the Serbian province.
NATO sprung into action and, in spite of the fact no member nation of the alliance was threatened, commenced bombing not only Kosovo, but the infrastructure and population of Serbia itself…
Those of us who warned that the West was being sucked in on the side of an extremist, militant, Kosovo-Albanian independence movement were dismissed as appeasers.

Excellent critique of Benny Morris, Professor Dann. He agonizingly goes into every detail to describe Israeli Jews atrocities during the War of Independence and makes an historical case of utilizing only written and archeological material (no oral witnesses) as cornerstones of his histories. In this case, his written sources are often faulty (see his history of the Palestinian Refugee Problem — Revisited) and, furthermore, attempts no balance in his analyses and leaves the Reader with the idea that the exodus of Arabs was all caused by Jewish fighters. Morris has since attempted to contradict his critics in interviews and debates by taking up the perspective of Israel, something he never really does in his histories. He does a poor job at it. He has gained an undeserved reputation as a classy and accurate historian but his perspective is narrow and exceedingly biased against his own country. He is a confused professional. Thank you, Professor, for providing some of the reasons why Morris should be dismissed.

In the parlance, a photojournalist is a documentary photographer, which I am. This is a far cry from a reporter which is what a journalist is.
