On this week’s Poliwood, Lionel and I are joined in-studio by best-selling author and, now, filmmaker Dinesh D’Souza. D’Souza explains why he decided to take a page from the Michael Moore playbook and release a powerful documentary during an election season. Why has his film 2016: Obama’s America become the second-highest grossing political documentary of all time? And how can PJTV viewers help the film do even better? Find out.

Did he say if the movie would be available streaming on Netflix, or shown on television before the election? That’s pretty much the only way it will reach the fence-sitters, and undecided voters, who are not going to pay to see it in the theater.
I think he said it would be available in DVD and perhaps on TV and other places like Video on Demand and streaming. I didn’t hear him mention Netflix by name though.
Roger and Lionel asked if it might be available in these other ways before the election but I am concerned that he did not explicitly say that this would happen before the election. Perhaps that was implied but I didn’t hear him say that categorically.
I suppose it all depends on whether his highest priority is getting the message out or making money from the film. Sales of DVDs and movie seats and Video on Demand viewings are likely to be much less after the election though so I think he’s likely to do best to release the film in all those ways as soon as he can.

Great interview. Over the past few years, Dinesh D’Souza has become one of my heroes. His film is a wonderful piece of work, and I recommend everyone go see it, and think about it, and understand it.
I have one nit to pick with the film editing which is purely technical and has no bearing on the message. In a couple of scenes, D’Souza is essentially interviewing people who are speaking on cell phones but who are also being filmed. This seemed odd to me. But then it got worse. The audio in these scenes jumps from the live, good audio of D’Souza’s voice, to an inferior cell phone quality audio of the interviewee, EVEN though the interviewee is being filmed, and is on camera. This was highly annoying. Don’t do that, again. I only bring this up because I hope and trust that in the future, you’ll make more movies!
