Could the president lose Jewish voters in 2012? Roger L. Simon interviews Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) , Andrew Breitbart, Frank Luntz and more. Watch below, or click here to watch at PJTV.
He will sure lose some Jewish voters, not just because of Israel, but because of the economy and other failures, but if anyone expects a revolution my bet is it won’t happen. It’s probably gonna be 30+% for the Republican candidate if he/she is seen as moderate and solid enough, up to 40% if the extent of Obama’s mess will be clear enough near the end of 2012. As mentioned in the video, around third of the Jewish vote on average went to the Republican candidates in the last congressional elections.
The highest percentage of Jewish vote won by a Republican in the last 60 years was 40% – Eisenhower in 1956. Other relative peaks in the last 60 years:
- Eisenhower (1952 against Stevenson) – 36%
- Nixon (1972 against McGovern) – 35%
- Reagan (1980 against Carter) – 39% (31% in his second term against Mondale).
- Bush senior (1988 against Dukakis) – 35%
So there’s not much of a consistent, if small, trend toward conservatism as someone claimed in the video, but rather flactuations according to the candidates and the current state of afairs.
He will get the Jewish vote, the black vote, the uneducated don’t care about America vote, the bail me out vote. Jews , what can we say, they will never never never learn…they obviously don’t know reich from wrong…
“Anonymous” thinks that Jews can be described as a collectivity that has identical political preferences, indeed, including the inability to recognize Nazis (the “reich” as he or she puts it). We have never, ever confronted the penetration of antisemitism in the U.S., so I offer this guide to the multiple sources of that prejudice here: http://clarespark.com/2010/11/14/the-abcs-of-antisemitism/. “Jews” who have assimilated to America by joining the Democratic Party are often responding to FDR’s unmerited reputation as a friend to “the Jews.” If their ancestors emigrated from Eastern Europe, they remember the struggles of their grandparents as workers and small businessmen, and replicate their ancestor’s enthusiasm for the Left in general during the 1930s. They also may imagine that Truman was their friend, in his early recognition of Israel, rather than seeing Truman as primarily motivated by the Cold War and the expectation that Israel would side with the US against the Soviet Union.
I was inspired by this video to write a new blog: http://clarespark.com/2011/06/17/the-famed-jewish-vote/. Until antisemitism is a legitimate field of study, Jews in America will always have to deal with Jew-hatred and stereotyping. We will have tactical alliances, but not true friends.
I don’t care who voted what way in the past…it’s today…
Look at how American jews vote , Obama, Hillary..people that could not possibly care less about their people, they just want the vote.
So they think Hillary and Obama is their friend???? like they did with good Truman?
Good grief Clare, you make it sound like they’re stupid people and can’t think themselves out of a wet paper bag.
They know who these people are and choose how to vote…I’m not antisemitic, I am anti stupid. OOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH WWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOe Is me……
From what I see, over 50% of the Jews in this country are anti-Obama. That’s way up from the 22% of us who voted against him in the last election. As I see it, the Jewish vote is a push and will cancel itself out. On the other hand there has been a large influx of Moslems into this country……….I wonder how they will vote.
Anonymous, I can’t see how you can be anti-stupid when you demonstrate that you are stupid in the first place. Its like looking into a mirror and saying I don’t like the image. What’s the matter? Can’t you even come up with a handle for yourself or is that too much thinking? You throw around your verbs, nouns and adjectives as if you have something substantial to say. Too bad you miss the mark by so much. Please go back to high school and finish your education.
36% for the man who led the fight against the maniac who tried to wipe them off the face of the earth. This is not a statistic but a condemnation of a people who for all their wonderful and substantial contributions to science and the arts are politically stupid.
Even the reality of the alliance between The Left and the Islamists and a Muslim sympathizer (if not closet Muslim) in the White House won’t move the needle.
Jews are not stupid. They are bleeding hearts – and the end result (as far as actions/choices) is stupid.
Btw, my first vote ever was for Ronald Reagan’s second term and I’ve voted Republican ever since.
Signed – a secular jew. (Well, half-jew – my dad is christian). I also studied political science in grad school – the field of polsci/policy is much more evenly divided amongst hawks and doves than the rest of academia – regardless of religious affiliation. History and present-day global issues are a sobering tonic to those who study them.
Miriam: You are making generalizations about Jews in the USA, i.e., “bleeding hearts”. The tide seems to be turning in North America, however. Furthermore, eighty percent of the total population of Israel (about 7 and 1/2 million) is Jewish. Bleeding hearts? You really need to spend time there, interested time, before you go on with your generalizations.
look at the picture of bho staring at your leader in the white house as he is being told what is right and what is wrong, if looks could kill he would have been dead on the spot.
So true. The hatred in Obama’s eyes is palpable.
I’d love to say that American Jews are waking up. I’d love to say that American Jews see what is happening around the world and to Jews everywhere. I’d love to say that I see a strong, proud Jewish generation growing up, casting off a ghetto/victim mentality.
I’d love to say all those things. But I’d be lying….
So many of the Jews I know have a profound lack of understanding. They remind me of frogs in a frying pan with cold water. They do not see the temp being turned up.
They point to Jewish success if all fields of choice. From land development, to high ranking positions in the White House and tell me that I am the one who doesnt see.
But I see alright…
I see levels of out and out Jew hatred being accepted across the GLOBE as normal speech.
I see protests across the arab world that use the Star of David as the ultimate insult as to “label” one a “JEW”.
So yes, America has been a great place for Jewish freedom and at the same time, America is great for all of those whack jobs that now have organized to confront Jews, israel and Zionism at every turn.
It’s 1933 folks.
But maybe I am the real crazy Jew here and BHO actually really loves Israel….
Just remember HOW many Jews got onto trains and went to “collection” points and did not resist…
Just remember HOW many times in our history this has happened before…
So yeah, I might be crazy, but I wont be a victim, nor will I vote for Obama EVER.
Unfortunately, you’re not crazy.
Great Interview !! The swing to the Republicans would be more believable if more jewish women were involved.
‘I represent that remark’ – umm – ‘I resemble that remark’, umm…….
-Jewish conservative female (and taking into account the other jewish conservative females I’ve met or run into on these threads….)
I see more Jewish women registering as independents rather that to commit to a hostile Democratic party or a Republican party they have not learned to trust. They have long memories and remember the hostile Conservative Republicans of the past. What I see them doing more is becoming an issue voter than a party line voter. Obama is definitely an issue and I expect them to vote Republican. They will still be liberal on social issues etc. I have to say, I really respect them for the depth of their thought and the courage to do something about it.
I’m at least as concerned about Hillary in 2012 and 2016 as I am about Obama.
In case anybody hasn’t been paying attention to the national security story behind the Weinergate scandal, Saleha Abedin, Anthony Weiner’s mother-in-law, is a member of the Muslim Sisterhood, the female affiliate of the Muslim Brotherhood.
Anthony Weiner’s wife, Huma Abedin, is Hillary Clinton’s longtime “body woman” (personal assistant) and evidently Hillary’s lesbian lover as well.
Are American Jews aware that a Muslim Brotherhood mole is being harbored in the office (and the household) of Obama’s Secretary of State?
The only Republican most Jews would vote for would have to be a Democrat. -:)
More seriously, I think Frank Luntz is correct. The best the generic Republican will get is about one-third of the Jewish vote. I think Luntz also correct about the voting patterns of Jews: the more observant, the more Republican. For the Republican that means they can look forward to an increasing percentage (of a shrinking pie). Observant Jews tend to have much larger families than non-observant Jews whose reproduction rates are on the order of Italy’s.
BTW – Breitbart’s Jewish? Who knew?
I was also surprised that Breitbart is Jewish. Talking of which, the positive change that I do see in recent years, or rather a couple of decades, is that there is a growing number of Jewish intellectuals and Internet journalists on the right, many of which started on the left. Latest addition is David Mamet. I think if the conservatives want to get more Jewish votes they have to focus on the Jewish elites, the opinion makers. Yes, I know how it sounds. Many of them are obviously beyond hope. But the more of the opinion makers change their minds, the more other Jews will follow. David Mamet said that for most of his life he didn’t read conservative books and wasn’t seriously exposed to their arguments. After reading quite a bit and getting to know the conservative arguments more thoroughly he changed his mind.
The thing is that when one grows in a non-Orthodox Jewish environment (the Orthodox are a minority), where almost everyone is liberal, then naturally his/her exposure to conservative arguments is very limited. From early childhood whenever the Jewish toddler hears any talk about politics it’s always from the liberal side. He grows up on this ideology and on negative stereotypes of Republicans. There are simply not enough conservatives around to articulate the counter-arguments or the basis of their ideology and opinion. It’s a liberal echo chamber. Then he/she goes to college where the opinions he grew up on at home are reenforced and even radicalized. So there’s a problem of ignorance about consrvatism even among the educated.
BTW, it isn’t correct that the more observant, the more Republican. Religious Jews are a minority among Jews, but among them there are Orthodox and Reform Jews (there is further division within each group). Both groups are religious, even if the Orthodox think the Reform Jews are heretics. Each group is observant in the way it understands the Jewish religion, and they understand it in radically different ways. The majority of Orthodox vote for the Republicans since they are social conservative. Reform Jews are liberal.
Breitbart is Irish by birth, but was adopted by a jewish father and a (non-orthodox converted) jewish mother. Raised as jewish. How you interpret that (of course) depends on your belief system…
Pnina – When I used the term “observant” I specifically mean those Jews who observe more of the Torah commandments (as interpreted by rabbinic sages through the centuries). I prefer the term “observant” to Orthodox, because I think of the latter as a misnomer. Thus, I consider myself “observant” but not Orthodox. I say that because the meaning of that term is “correct thinking” in the sense of following the party-line when it comes to matters of history and text. Within the realm of Orthodox Judaism I am anything but a correct thinker. Indeed, I have been called a heretic by some (including those who are not observant) and that is because I am willing to entertain non-orthodox thoughts (and mind you I wear “tcheleth” [the blue string] and I wear my tzizith out when I’m not in a professional setting). Possibly a better term than observant would be Orthoprax. So, instead of using the term “observant” let me rephrase what I said: The more Orthoprax, the more Republican.
Miriam – Thanks for the info on Breitbart.
“Could the president lose Jewish voters in 2012?” the question was, right?
Well, it depends on mentality. Jewish mentality, in this case.
Let’s see something about that mentality:
I was told that there is English version of that page, too. But in Russian, the column with highly impressive photos is titled “Intolerable conditions for Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons.”
Please review photos thoroughly if you didn’t find the English text: the photos say for themselves.
So, whatever happens on the American soil, Jews will always be predominantly voting for most rabid Liberasts. And the obama* is their choice.
* the “obama” in my parlance stands for the “Organized Bastard(s) And Marxist Agitator(s)
JEWS make up 1.3% of the entire USA population – even if 100% of them voted for (or against OBAMA) it would be drop in the bucket- there are simply not enough JEWS to make or break any election in USA-
It would be far more useful to wonder why Christian voters (who do make up 80% of the vote) got Obama into office and blame them for Obamanation.
see how easy that is?? blame, blame, make fun of the JEWS, such a fun game
Go back and review Frank Luntz’s comments on the video. Luntz is one of the most highly regarded pollsters in the US – with good reason. He says the Jewish vote could sway Nevada and Florida. Huge.
As of 2010, the American Jewish population is 1.7% (5,275,000).
One also has to bear in mind the enormous (financial and organizational) power of Jewish lobby that drastically affects any elections.
It’s not to offend Jews; it’s just matter of fact.
I personally am Jew, but I am not a Jew of Kibutz mentality. And I hate Socialism which the majority of Jews are so much in love with.
By the way, Christian idiots who voted for the obama also deserve public condemnation.
And one consideration more: it’s with regard to numbers manipulation, so much beloved in certain circles.
Even if to take your number of “1.3%” for the face value (which is false anyway), you can’t possibly be trustworthy: even though you did say the words “of the entire USA population” and “even if 100% of them voted for (or against OBAMA) it would be drop in the bucket”, you “mysteriously” forgot that not the entire population is voting; at most – a half.
Which automatically increases even you false number to 2.6%.
So, if you want to honestly and seriously discuss things, not just like usual Liberasts, you should not manipulate the data.
EXACTLY!! The right blames everyone except themselves. You’re correct in that Jews only make up about 1.3% of the entire population (although it seems like they’re all here in NYC, lol!). And they are wonderfully progressive people who generously give to wonderful causes. I am involved with an inner-city outreach program that boosts the self-esteem of Afro-American children. It’s called “I’m Royalty Day” and it’s a summertime event where we get a bunch of Africano-American kids together and have they say in unison “I am a prince”, and “I am a princess” and “I come from ancient African royalty”. You can see how it justs boosts their self-esteem! We also give out free ice cream. It’s wonderful and my Jewish acquaintances give generously to this event. So I guess that the whole point of making sure we keep the Jewish vote is not so much about the actual “votes”, but their money. They do own the banks and major new outlets after all. They have the money. Too bad their relatives in Israel are so oppresive.
Isn’t it just wonderful! Your freebie, sorry, your free ice cream is definitely going to save our country…from Sozis.
And African-Americans are definitely a great addition to Jewish votes…sorry, to the topic of this article, I meant.
I just didn’t understand from your post, who will fake who?
Jews dress as African-Americans or African-Americans dress as Jews?
Didn’t we talk about will the obama lose Jewish voters in 2012…
Jews as a group turn out to vote in numbers that are higher than the general population. So their percentage of the population is more influential in elections than other groups that do not vote in such high numbers. They also live in concentrated areas where their communities as a bloc can swing an election district (which is what Luntz referred to).
Yeah, and the Blue Dog Democrats won’t go along with Obamacare. Liberals are liberals before they are anything else. NOW will attack women and PETA will hold BBQs if that’s what it takes to win.
Read Norman Podhoretz in WSJ, September 10, 2009
The only time in living memory that a Republican gained an electoral edge over a Democrat among Jewish voters was the second matchup of Dinkins versus Giuliani, and that edge occurred solely because of Crown Heights. And even then, the shift was almost infinitessimal. Instead of losing 49/51 as he did the first time, Giuliani won 51/49 the second time. A tiny shift.
What happens to Israel will never have the same effect as what happened to Jewish voters in New York City after Crown Heights.
Like so many Americans, it has to be really up close and personal to change lifelong habits.
One thing I never saw discussed publicly and directly: How Jewish votes and general mood are “tuned” by a person’s relation to Israel.
Let’s just give a thought to this phenomenon:
Citizens of America are putting interests of a different State above interests of the country they are living in.
Isn’t it the same as if I, had I still lived in the USSR (or modern Russia,) would consider interests of, let’s say, the USA (or France, or Saudi Arabia. whatever) above interests of Russia?
For all other people, it’s called State Treason. Only Jews don’t “fit” into that category. Huh? Julius and Ethel Rosenbergs recur to my memory…
Go fvck yourself.
And yes, I’ll take it outside, if you have the b@lls.
- A patriotic American.
Miriam: I remember the Rosenbergs. I also remember the Walkers, Hanssen, and the following document remembers what I don’t remember: http://www.fas.org/sgp/library/spies.pdf
If the man from the land of pogroms has a room temperature IQ or better, he will see no coincidence, correlation or causality between spying and being Jewish.
The real Constantine has finally come out again. Tell us about the murdering Jewish Bolsheviks again, please.
I don’t quite get your drift here? Russians invaded ESTONIA and robbed them of their Identity, their homes, etc and even took away their country and their language. The USSR was NOT a good place or people as they are COMMUNISTS.
Israel is NOT communists, they just want to protect their heritage, their identity, culture and religion. GEE, WHAT IS WRONG WITH THAT?
Really? Lose the Jewish vote? You maroons! President Obama can land in Jeruselem tonight, get liquored up on kosher wine, pee on the Western Wall, and still get 90% of the Jewish vote! We’re not worried about that segment of the vote. They’ll line up. It saddens me in a way, actually. I am a HUGE supporter of the Jewish people, who are mostly thoughtful progressives who tow the progressive line. They inherently understand and accept the progressive agenda. That is why I support Jewish people. Yet so many of them support Israel and that nation’s apartheid policy toward the Palestianians. This is why I support an idea floated by an artist friend of mine who believes we should institute a tax on people who possess fundamentally destructive ideals. That money can be used to set up schools, in the form of an outdoor summer activity camp or the like. To those camps we can send the people who maintain such oppressive ideals for an awareness program to help them learn the error of their destructive ways. We can have a camp motto along the lines of something like “Education Will Free Your Mind”, or “Education Will Set You Free”, or something of that nature. But I’m digressing here. The point is, our President gets the Jewish vote. Period!
Before anyone jumps in with shock and condemnation, “LovelyEarth” is a parody. S/he has posted elsewhere on PJM and gotten readers in a lather, even though s/he drops the mask very plainly at least once per post.
Parody? Really? Is that your take? What a maroon you are! I speak PLAINLY, OPENLY, AND HONESTLY about my opinions. I cite the FACTS! What are you so upset about – or should I say SCARED about – that you feel you must point out your belief that my postings are “parody”? Are you scared of something? That I may actually make a point and change someone’s mind? I’m like that lawyer, what’s his name, Barnaby Jones was it? The Andy Griffith charachter? I’M PERSUASIVE! Maroon………
Get ready for a real shock. Jews are starting to realize that their progressive ways are biting them in the a**. No matter how nice they want to be to those inner city kids, they will grow up to hate Jews. Jewish kids are being denied entrance to lots of good universities by inner city kids whose achievements are a joke by comparison. Their parents wonder out loud where is the “equality” they worked so hard to achieve in this country.
Nobody quite believes it but Texans don’t care about Jews/Jewish whatever. Real Texans pretty much can’t tell which of their pals is Jewish, Texans like Netanyahu and love what the jews did in the sixties and seventies, with the huge odds and all. Texans dislike liberals intensly, see the conflict?
Israel is being put in harm’s way. their enemies are legion, and make themselves evident by their words and their deeds. you either support Israel, or you don’t. it looks obvious what the pretender ‘o’ has in mind. he truly hates Israel. yes, you can see it in his actions, and his reactions. he has claimed to be just about every nationality but Jewish. maybe by election time he will have picked up a Jewish accent. maybe amerikan jews will feel better about helping to destroy their homeland if it comes from a kindred spirit.
what was that Holy Scripture? he who blesses Israel will be blessed, and he who curses Israel will be cursed? i guess it is only a problem if you actually believe in God’s words being true. the fullness of time will tell.
cursed? isn’t that like everything one touches turning to crap? yeah, i see that already unfolding.
I have hope that my Jewish brothers and sisters are waking up to the true Obama. he is not a friend of Israel, and he clearly has problems with Jews in general. if only 10% of the Jewish vote (and money) goes from the D to the R column, that’s enough to swing Florida. and Florida–as we all know!–is enough to decide the election.
what the Repubs have to do now is NOT nominate a loon. Sarah Palin, please please please don’t run!
michiganruth – With all due respect, I must disagree with you about Sarah Palin. To have the opinion you do of her must mean that you have been reading the LSM way too much (or so it appears). Remember, Clark Cllifford who was well respected in the late 1970s? He called Ronald Reagan an amiable dunce. All our presidents should be such dunces. Also, review the presidents of the twentieth century; the best and the brightest were the worst and the “worstess.” You don’t have to be the sharpest knife in the drawer, but you gotta have the right intuition, a commitment to the Constitutiion and America’s best interests at heart to be a good or great president. I think Sarah Palin has all three components.
I agree that Israel should secure future peace with the “palestinians” by surrendering its territory via returning to the borders of 1967. Similarly, the U.S. should secure future peace with the Mexicans by surrendering California via returning to the borders of 1847. At the same time, in the interest of world peace — Louisiana should be returned to France, Florida to Spain, Poland to Germany and Cuba to the Batista regime. While we’re at it, we should further secure world peace by returning all of southern Europe to the Turkish emirate, most of the U.S. eastern seaboard to England, and Cuba to the Batista regime. Finally, we might as well return all of modern civilization to the Stone Age, ’cause that’s the direction it seems we’re heading.
I agree with Obama that Israel should secure future peace with the “palestinians” by surrendering its territory via returning to the borders of 1967. Similarly, the U.S. should secure future peace with the Mexicans by surrendering California via returning to the borders of 1847. At the same time, in the interest of world peace — Louisiana sho.uld be returned to France, Florida to Spain, Poland to Germany and Germany to Hitler. While we’re at it, we should further secure world peace by returning all of southern Europe to the Turkish emirate, most of the the U.S. eastern seaboard to England and Cuba to the Batista regime. In the final analysis, we might as well return all of modern civilization to the stone age — ’cause that’s the direction it seems we’re heading.
The obvious cure for rampant leftism amongst American Jews is a healthy dose of Zionism.
I don’t see how the Jewish community and families and relatives can sit back and not observe just how President Obama IS anti-semitic. I am not attempting to bad mouth him because he has admitted more than once on taped interviews he is of Muslim faith; were we not listening? He has made fun of the Old Testament which that part he has criticized IS part of the Torah.
I am not Jewish, but my relatives are and I wish them no harm. Nor Israel. All Christianity and Catholicism stems from the early Judea-Christians and I feel many people are unaware of this. We cannot allow Israel to be over taken by ARAB MUSLIMS ISLAMICS who HATE Israel and want it terminated. UNACCEPTABLE.
Our country has always supported the Jewish people and I believe we’re always suppose to. They are kin to us in many ways and to see them abandoned is infuriating! We’ve never had a president be so calloused against them and my bet is that even American Jews will wake up and realize if they vote Obama back in and we don’t support Israel this might very well breed serious ramifications toward Jews all over the world.
