Perry the Only Credible Choice for Latino Conservatives
For Sosa, and a lot of other Latinos I’ve heard from in recent weeks, what cooked Romney’s goose with Latinos was the craven and dishonest way that he tried to use the immigration issue to bludgeon his major opponent, Texas Gov. Rick Perry. It was Romney who first brought up — during the CNN/Tea Party debate — the fact that Perry had signed a law allowing illegal immigrants who live in Texas and go to a state university to pay what other residents of the state pay: in-state tuition. And it is Romney who, having supported a comprehensive approach to reform that allows illegal immigrants to earn legal status, has now tried to remake himself as a fire-breather opponent of illegal immigration.
Latinos see that, and they resent being hoisted into the air and turned into a piñata for the benefit of someone’s White House ambitions. They know better than most Americans how complicated the immigration issue is, and they’re fed up with politicians who offer simple solutions that don’t hold water.
After the CNN/Tea Party debate, I got a phone call from a friend and Latino Republican political consultant who was incensed at how Romney had used illegal immigration as a weapon against Perry. “I’ll tell you what,” my friend said, “I have a new respect for Rick Perry for standing his ground. And I’ve lost all respect for Mitt Romney. If he’s the nominee, I’ll do everything I can to defeat that son-of-a-bitch!”
These are Republicans we’re talking about. You can imagine how poorly Romney would do with Latino independents and Democrats. Sosa is right. Romney is done with Latinos.
Here’s why that matters: There might be an estimated 12 million Latino votes cast next year. About 60 percent will likely go to Barack Obama; but that still leaves 40 percent on the table. Any Republican who could make a serious pitch for that support would be tough to beat. Conversely, any Republican who writes off those Latino votes will easily lose to Obama.
Besides, given the degree to which Obama has outraged Latinos with his dishonest and heavy-handed immigration enforcement policies, turnout on the left could be lighter than it was in 2008. If Republican conservatives turn out in large numbers, they could have a much greater impact on the outcome of the election than they are used to having.
That makes it all the more critical that Republicans nominate a candidate who Latino conservatives can get behind. And right now, everything I hear from around the country says that, for many Latino conservatives, the GOP field has narrowed to one name and one name only: Rick Perry.
I can relate. As a Latino voter who is conservative in some respects and who would easily consider supporting the right kind of Republican candidate for president next year, my message to the GOP is simple: “In this case of Texas Hold ‘Em, I’m all in. Either you go with Perry, or you can go to hell.”

We are Reconquering the Southwest…and you gringos can’t stop us. Our population is rapidly growing, and the gringo population is aging and declining. We are over 50 million and united. You are down to 63.7% and extremely divided…and will be a minority by 2041. We are already a majority of the population under 18 in Alta California, Tejas, Nuevo Mexico and Arizona… and are rapidly taking over Nevada, Colorado, and Florida.
We are young and vigorous. You gringos are old and tired. We are the future. Your time has passed. We have defeated you without firing a shot. It is too late for you gringos to stop us from taking over the country. Gringos are down to only 53.5% of the population under 18…and a minority of births since 2010. You gringos will soon be a minority, and lose control of your own destiny. We will control who gets elected President. We will DOMINATE Alta California, Tejas, Nuevo Mexico and Arizona…and will be the swing voters in the swing states — Nevada, Colorado, and Florida. Whoever doesn’t do La Raza’s bidding will be thrown out of office.
We have Reconquered the Southwest from you gringos without firing a shot. Don’t you see that we have defeated you? You have no leaders, no hope, no future. You gringos will soon pay the price for your sins against us. The 21st century will undo and reverse the 19th century. La Reconquista is almost complete. It is only a matter of time. We are nearly there. In a few years it will all be over for you gringos.
Do you understand that we are CONQUERING this country right now right in front of your eyes, in broad daylight, without a shot being fired? Do you understand that we are CONQUERING America right now…and that your leaders are like the American Indian chiefs who sold their tribes out for bottles of Kickapoo Joy Juice and some repeating rifles…
We have already RECONQUERED the entire Southwest — Alta California, Tejas, Nuevo Mexico, and Arizona. We will soon have control of Nevada, Colorado, Florida, and Utah. After that, we will proceed to invade, conquer, and colonize the entire country. We are repopulating the country. We will eventually drive all you gringos out of the country, to Canada, back to Europe, to Mars, whatever, just get the hell out of this country because we’re taking over, and we don’t want you racist gringos here. We will drive you gringos out of here as sure as I’m standing here.
We have CONQUERED you without firing a shot. La Raza is 50 million strong…and by 2050 there will be 135 million of us concentrated in the Southwest that borders Mexico which will have nearly 150 million people. La Reconquista is almost complete. We are taking back the Southwest, the land that you gringos stole from us in the 19th century. Demographics Is Destiny. We are repopulating the country. It is all over for you gringos. By 2041 you gringos will be a minority. A minority that is aging, shrinking and dying. By 2050 we will be 135 million strong, about 30% of the population, an overwhelming majority in the Southwest — and an even greater percentage of children. We will soon be an outright majority.
The Gringo’s world is ending… Not with a bang but a whimper.
The Gringo is going gentle into that good night… Don’t rage against the dying of the Gringo’s light.
Por La Raza todo. Fuera de La Raza nada.
I’ve come to the conclusion that “La Raza” is really a Conservative, perhaps even an Anglo, playing the long con. He’s trying to wake us up to the positions of the real La Raza. He’s a kind of anti-Moby. Ignore him, or enjoy his too perfect impersonation.
La Raza:
It is stupendous that you folks are breeding yourselves into majority on the American taxpayer dime. When we do leave, will you be following us? I believe so. Reason; you can’t take care of yourselves. No matter where we go, you will follow us because you have become exactly what they planned; an entitled people, with your eyes on someone else’s earnings. If you are so smart and so crafty, why don’t you change your own government? Why don’t you change your own country? The United States of America bought and paid for the land you now call your own. If you want it back, why don’t you just offer fair market value for it? Buy it back? Oh, that’s right. You don’t have any money because you live off of the money and production of others. Quit spewing your idiocy here and go collect your welfare check. As for this author; you are no conservative, Sir. You are just another leech on our country advocating for other leeches. LEGAL IMMIGRATION ONLY! YOU WANT BENEFITS IN THIS COUNTRY? EARN IT! I DAMN SURE DON’T HAVE TO GIVE YOU WHAT MY FAMILY WORKS HARD FOR TO BARELY SURVIVE!
Great swelling words of vanity, La Raza. You are in unity now because you are Mexican and believe that is all it takes But your Communist philosophy will take you down and out the way Castro took Cuba. You condemn yourself out of you own mouth. If your ire was not fanned by Communist hog wash you might even be nice to know.
La Raza, it appears that you have the same response over and over whenever the issue of hispanics come up. What is the purpose in repeating this response exactly the same over and over? Have you no other response material?
Congratulation there La Raza.
Are you going to make the United States look like Mexico and Honduras and Argentina?
If so, we must all have a REALLY bright future ahead.
We are taking over this country…and if you don’t like it go back to Europe.
The joke is on you racist gringo losers. We will soon be a majority in the Southwest. And by 2050 – Hispanics under 18 will outnumber Europeans under 18 in America, 39% – 38%. (The other 23% will be Africans, Asians etc.) We are the future. Your time is over. You gringos are aging, dying, disappearing. We have Conquered you. You have been defeated. We are now the majority. You gringos are a minority. We now control our own destiny. You gringos don’t have a prayer. What a shame. The gringos suicide is La Raza’s gain.
Read a book. The europeans settled mexico and South America. mexicans are of european descent.
Spain is still in Europe….Right?
Don’t feed the troll. La Raza shows up for all of Reubens pieces. I strongly suspect that La Raza IS Navarette since amnesty and the cultural takeover of the entire north American continent seems to be his/their goal.
Navarrette is an open-bordere ideologue and will side with illegal aliens every time. Even Hispanics who entered this country the legal way have no use for illegal aliens and their cheating of the system. In fact, Cesar Chavez, the champion of California farm workers, detested and vehemently opposed illegal aliens.
Troll or not, it is worth responding that it is a bit absurd for Mexicans to demand that white Americans “go back to Europe” when Mexicans (aside from its native Indians) descended from Spanish settlers. I’ll go back to may ancestral Germany when the Mexicans go back to Spain.
Hey Racist! Since the SPANIARDS were the FIRST INVADERS of the Americas,
YOU GO HOME TO SPAIN FIRST, mono peludo!
As a Perry supporter, I hate that so many decide for whom to vote based on one issue, which is what has allowed the Demonic Party to do its America-dividing, America-destroying dirty work.
Perry seems to be a decent man who can’t debate. Conservatives are going to have to let Romney’s and Perry’s actions speak louder than their words.
Personally, I don’t think a majority of Americans are smart enough to do this any more.
We are Conquering Tejas. In Tejas, two-thirds of the newborns and half the schoolchildren are Hispanic… We will soon Dominate Tejas just like we are currently Dominating Alta California… When that happens it is all over for you white Republicans and racist gringos…
We’re the racists, eh? Coming from a group whose original name was The United Race (La Raza Unida for non-Texan readers). Pot calling kettle brown.
You racist white Republicans are panicking because you know that your time is coming to an end. We will soon DOMINATE Tejas, Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, Florida, Georgia etc. You will be out of power, FOREVER. The joke is on you gringos. The gringos loss is La Raza’s gain. What a shame for you gringos. You gringos will wind up in the dustbin of history. You will be buried by the sands of time. Adios gringos.
Ruben Navarrette is La Medicadia
LaRizA, one word you wrote is cottect. Your America will be a usless dustbowl, with too mant mouths to feed and so few frijoles.
La Bumba, look up the meaning of “tejas’. Not mexican.
See,I even spell like the hoardes. But at least I realize it.
La Raza is right–this is America’s future UNLESS we grow some brains and some balls. Read his/her comments instead of skipping them as I have previously done. Then remember to insert Muslim radicals and any other racist group you like in place of La Raza and consider that it’s all happening right in our faces and yet too many of us refuse to see reality. We must defend ourselves.
It is already too late for you gringos. We will soon be the majority. We will control the ballot box. It will be impossible for you to save yourselves from us. If you are nice to us, when we are the majority maybe we’ll treat you nicely…NOT. You gringos are already finished. You just don’t know it yet. By the time you gringos realize what happened, it will be WAY TOO LATE for you to do anything about it.
We will cut off your gringos Medicare and Social Security…
They know better than most Americans how complicated the immigration issue is, and they’re fed up with politicians who offer simple solutions that don’t hold water.
After the CNN/Tea Party debate, I got a phone call from a friend and Latino Republican political consultant who was incensed at how Romney had used illegal immigration as a weapon against Perry.
I can relate. As a Latino voter who is conservative in some respects and who would easily consider supporting the right kind of Republican candidate for president next year, my message to the GOP is simple: “In thiscase of Texas Hold ‘Em, I’m all in. Either you go with Perry, or you can go to hell.”
So, if the non-Marxists in this country like a Herman Cain or Newt Gingrich or wish to draft a Mitch Daniels or Paul Ryan at the convention…we can go to hell? And this from someone who has SOME “conservative” (un-named as they may be) principles.
Such as what, may we ask? I’ve not particularly noticed any in the articles printed here.
And what about the CNN debate struck you as being a Tea Party event? Was that intended as a slur? Is there something about small government, free market, non-Marxist approach to self-governance that offends you? If so, we can eliminate those items from the apparently very short list of “SOME conservative” principles that you hold.
As for the “right kind” of Republican, the list of qualities seems to be a short one. In fact, it narrows down to a single item. Don’t deport border crashers, identity thieves, because the issue is too complicated for the simple minds of most gringo…er…Americans…you know, Americans…those folks who actually pay taxes and are here legally propping up non-citizens for their education, health care, police, fire, streets, highways, sanitation and waste, legal system and defense among other things.
Offering a society that is not run by drug cartels and where the corruption is confined to Marxist crony socialism…which…apparently…is a big favorite with Latinos who would vote for it in massive numbers….being that they are Marxist supporters before being “Latino”. Or so it is suggested.
Narrowing down to one single candidate or they can “go to hell” is a threat from a guy who doesn’t like simple-minded solutions to complicated issues…one of those things that makes you go…hmmmm.
We don’t have the capacity to understand the “complexities” of border crashing. Silly us. We tend to simplify it to this: It’s a crime. It’s a drain on our economy. It is a law enforcement nightmare. It’s not right, it’s not legal…and by God…it’s not fair.
So, rather than be as rude to those criminals as you are to the non-criminal actual citizens of this land of ours…I won’t suggest that you and the border crashers go to hell. We as a people are better than that.
I simply suggest that the border crashers/identity thieves/theft of services crowd go back to the other side of the border.
Then again, with the corruption, drug filth and organized crime there…maybe that is saying the same thing. Why not concentrate on building a country instead of stealing one? It’s more noble. It’s more dignified. It’s more honest.
Maybe then, your lectures and unrequested advice would have an ounce of merit. And one day you could find yourself being an American…”before a Latino”.
Well Put. Thus far the single most recognized ‘gotcha’ moment of this debate season has been Perry sticking his cowboy boot in his own mouth – while looking the audience square in the face. It was a revealing combo event – divisive topic plus stupid stupid ad lib.
The overt political motives happen to be pretty pedrestrian on all sides. It is after all the silly silly primary silly season.
The dead horse here, besides the not-ready-for-prime-time Texas gov, is Rubin’s reasoning and motives.
Yet another ‘threat mongering’ post from the San Diego mouthpiece for comprehensive Orwellian conservatism. Latino’s are poised for bla bla bla.
I put this compendium of straw men Ruben has burped out as a companion piece to
Maria Hinojosa’s recent Frontline monstrosity passing itself off as an expose on the abuses of the Obama regime’s deportation practices.
It’s terrible that some woman got raped at one of these ‘privately owned and operated’ containment facilities – which are ipso facto jails (more often reminicent of Motel Six than they are Tent City or County here) – but it also was quite telling that the woman who did – DEMANDED AND GOT SELF RELEASED AFTER THE TRUMATIC INCIDENT – AND THEN SELF DEPORTED!!! (An option I don’t believe is available at Pelican Bay or Rikers – were rapes often likewise tragically occur – also without the ‘option’ of retaining a lawyer for filing a civil suit)
Rape likewise is a common problem for those who make the devils bargin with the cartels when paying to come here. The news has been filled with these incidents for years now – often accompanying the kidnapping and extortion racket these people subject THEMSELVES TO.
It’s horrible, no doubt.
But it’s been at least six years in the making here – what -has all news in Mexico blacked out because of the drug war concerning these risks? Oh, and what about the conditions of Latin Countries penal institutions – would they pass the recent Supreme’s insisting that Cali start early release because they don’t pass the constitutional smell test?
Nor does that make it our problem – as eager as folks like Hinojosa are so determined to try and do. The American people are not about to let such editorial self-serving political propaganda confuse or distract them at this late date.
We have our own economic problems to handle first and foremost – so Mexico – and all brethern South are just gonna have to learn to budget without that 20+Billion in remissions coming from ex-pats working in El Norte. Besides the billions we invest in locking down the border – and yet the cartels operate with impunity on the Mexico side? Hardly a ‘partnership’ as Obama and Napolitano insist.
And the ‘community’ under siege here? Cut your losses and leave or live with the possiblity of being one of the arbitray 400,000 who face a bus or plane ride back home. Sounds like Obama has adopted the Arizona solution – much like he has with the Bush wars; when reality trumpts campaign rhetoric – the O man goes pragmatic.
And the Democrat Left goes ballistic.
Navarette and his ilk have been preaching this carping ‘we have the power of the votes’ garbage for years. Obama caved to the La RAza types to preach the prosecutorial descretion line and slow the deporation train – because he is desperate for any vote he can get.
We shall see how Florida goes. Rick Scott wasn’t as abjectly demanding any ‘my way or your heartless’ pitches when he took the governorship. Nor will Rubio prove to be some kind of a ‘drag’ on which way the Latino vote goes in Fla.
Romney has made a committment to framing illegal immigration as strictly an ecomonic problem with but one possible political solution at this particular moment in time. That is a priceless political win – and it has devestated Perry’s campaign up to this point.
Perry’s attempt to poke back over a third-party hired gardner made for good sniping sound bits -for a single news cycle – but it hardly landed the Gloria Allred killing blow ala Meg Whitman.
Despite Perry’s trying to claim ownership due to geography and all things Texan – his own inept attempts to ‘just show up and win’ at debating has cost him any hope of reclaiming the high road on this – or most likely any other issue.
Like the national debt and taxes – Illegal immigration is a great dividing issue marking the stark contrasts between Obama and anyone the Republicans run.
I don’t believe that this election will be any different than every other election regarding immigration; vastly over-inflated as to it’s importance.
AS to the case where it is crucial in states such as Florida, Virgina, North Carolina, Colorado, Ohio…..; nothing in those economies are vastly different than every other state – just worse (as in FLA & Ohio).
What sells worse than tying to conflate illegal immigraiton with civil rights in the worse economy since Carter in ’80?
The only thing that springs to mind is….Ruben Navarette & his frivolous one note whines!!!!!!
I’m sorry. I thought people in this country were American. I thought they wanted what was good for everyone in the country not just their own special group. I thought we were “all” in this together.
My bad. I see now the color of one’s skin and their ethnicity will always be a barrier to equality. Some people will always be more equal than others. Too bad they can’t go back to their ancestral homes and “reeducate” their ethnically bonded cousins instead of trying to take over and run a country of multiple races and ethnic groups.
I guess “democracy” doesn’t translate directly.
RN, are you aware of anything else in this country besides pushing the cause of criminals?
An endorsement from Rueben Navarette is a strong condemnation of any candidate.
lol, la raza is just a O-bot who can’t really think or reason, it’s all copy-paste, the same old same old paragraphs once and again, and again ad nauseam.
Bigger lol for the people who keep answering hers nonsense.
Real latinos like me don’t care and don’t want to be associated with troll-bot like la raza, we came to USA fleeing from “people” like her. Freedom loving latinos are not going to allow any conquering of the good ol’ U.S of A.
La raza, andate a la casita de la mala verga que es donde mereces estar con tu cerebro inmundo y putrefacto.
Y que Dios bendiga América!
You are a traitor to your own people. Shame on you. You are a disgrace.
Viva La Raza!
You are a racist. Cortez committed genocide against the Aztecs. You are as bad as Hitler.
La Raza…your statements are so ridiculous, have you tried stand-up comedy? I am of Mexican descent and would never condone ANYTHING that group (La Raza) represents. I am a die-hard Conservative patriotic American who would do everything in my power to ensure that thier twisted anit-American message does not continue to spread like the cancer it is. If you like everything Mexican so damned much maybe you should pack your belongings and head south…..America will NOT miss you.
Hey la waza: since the Spaniards were the first invaders of the Americas…why don’t YOU GO BACK TO SPAIN first?!? Adios, Pedro.
This article is what psychologists call “projection.”
If, as Rube says, the “Latino” vote (Latinas don’t vote?) skews heavily Democratic in 2012 and Obama still loses then we can all have a hearty laugh at Rube’s expense.
I know of one immigrant “Latino” who is a small business owner and consistently votes libertarian. He refuses to speak Spanish to the illegals because of their aggravating entitlement mentality. And here we have Rube feeling entitled to speak on behalf of him and an entire demographic when we all know Rube is just projecting his feelings of frustration onto a larger group so he can feel important.
Ruben, once again you’re dancing the old equivocation tango, trying to conflate “Latinos” with “illegals.”
I guarantee you, Obama will still win the illegal vote.
Ruben Navarrette is not entirely honest in leading people to believe he is “Conservative”.
I will not quibble that his allegiance is to America rather than some Hispanic country, like Mexico. He is clearly American and loves our country.
But he is also very much PRO ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION.
He might say he is not, but its a fact that he is eager to see undocumented workers given amnesty and he is against any immigration controls that would prevent us from having such a large undocumented population in the future.
In short, he favors a free and open border between the US and Mexico, with virtually no barriers and restrictions. This is Reconquista, even if Ruben wants to deny it. (It bugs me that hispanics who have arrived here legally are so cavalier about the need for others to obey the laws of their newly adopted land.)
That is not a conservative stance.
Rejection by Hispanic leaders or opinion writers might be taken more seriously when they show themselves to be serious about upholding the rule of law, even when it comes to immigration. Until then, they should not be given credit as valid or appropriate.
Romney should wear Ruben Navarrette’s rejection as a badge of honor — as proof that he is a real conservative and not a friend of Reconquista.
Navarrette: At this point, they’re more “Democrat” than they are “Latino.”
I look forward to the day when they are more American than Latino.
(Is this guy capable of writing about anything other than Hispanic issues?)
Well, yeah. However, I think the various preferences now given to others should be given instead to skinny bald guys over seventy. We could form a pressure group, called Skinny Old Baldies, SOBs for short.
We are CONQUERING you gringos. Go back to Europe. We are now in control in America. Get out! Go back to where you came from you racist European colonialists! Out!
Viva La Raza!
Hey la waza: You DO realize that the Spaniards were the first invaders of the Americas…right?!?
So why don’t YOU GO BACK TO SPAIN first?!? Adios, Pedro.
TEXAS GOVERNOR PERRY NEEDS TO BE ASKED ABOUT THE AGENT THAT HAS BEEN SENTENCED …NOT A “WELL I’M NOT FAMILIAR WITH IT ‘ ANSWER IS ACCEPTABLE!!! HE WANTS TO BE PRESDIENT???
“Agent Jesus E. Diaz Jr. was named in a November 2009 federal grand jury indictment with deprivation of rights under color of law during an October 2008 arrest near the Rio Grande in Eagle Pass, Texas, in response to a report that illegal immigrants had crossed the river with bundles of drugs.
In a prosecution sought by the Mexican government and obtained after the suspected smuggler was given immunity to testify against the agent, Diaz was sentenced last week by U.S. District Judge Alia Moses Ludlumin San Antonio. The Mexican consulate in Eagle Pass had filed a formal written complaint just hours after the arrest, alleging that the teenager had been beaten.”
This is bullspit…and outrageous!
Deport all hispanics now!
I have a feeling La Raza is a right-wing troll trying to provoke hatred and resentment against all Latino-Americans, among conservatives. It’s working.
I have a feeling Anonymous is a left-wing troll trying to provoke hatred and resentment against all conservatives, among Latinos. It’s not working, because Anonymous doesn’t have a clue what it means to be conservative. Conservatives don’t hate nor resent La Raza for being Latino… they pity him for being an idiot. Fools like La Raza come in every color.
Why don’t you and Preston and Moran get a room and sort it out? Moran was hopping mad yesterday because he was calling Perry a birther. I think that’s a couple notches worse than a creationist.
Texas Leadership Fails Texans
http://texas.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2011/07/tex…
In gauging the 2012 election, I’m watching where Latino conservatives are headed.
Maybe it’s because I’ve given up on Latino liberals who — faced with the uncomfortable but undeniable reality that a president they helped put in office has, in a desperate attempt to win favor with Anglo voters and independents, deported more than 1 million people in less than three years — have opted to stand by their man at the expense of their principles. At this point, they’re more “Democrat” than they are “Latino.”
what a load of crap!
Sure if your more “latino” then you are American you will have a problem with deporting illegals. As an American of mexican descent I resent like hell your statment. If someone broke into your home would you call the police and have them removed or would you set a place for them at your table , let them sleep in your bed? Breaking into this country is the same as breaking into your home. just because its removed from your home does not make it any less wrong.
I suggest you remove your head from you rectum.
How about voting for the person who is best FOR THE COUNTRY – not just for you or for your one issue but for the country as a whole. And as for deporting more than 1 million people in less than 3 years? I don’t agree with Obama on much, but I’m happy about that stat but I won’t be satisfied until EVERY LAST ONE is deported – I don’t care where they came from, if they are here ILLEGALLY, they need to be kicked out now.
Seriously folks. Do we believe that all Latinos support illegal immigration? I’m Latino, a registered Democrat, and fiscal conservative. I loudly disagree with the notion that we all think undocumented immigrants are entitled to be here, to work here without documentation, or consume our resources. We have enough trouble trying to provide for legal residents in this country without supporting those who don’t believe they should be required to play by the rules. I’m not anti-immigration at all; rather, I find the majority of LEGAL immigrants to be people who work hard, contribute positively, and generally an asset to our country. They waited their turn in line, finding no right or privilege to circumvent the rules. I support those who can play by the rules, not law-breakers.
As such, I hope to support a candidate who can see past the ridiculous belief that all Latinos are in lock-step on the issue of immigration and appeal to those who seek the true best interests of our nation.
Someone once told me that only white racists are anti-illegal immigration. I wonder if my employer will let me change my ethnic designation on my EEOC report?
A Navarrette endorsement of Perry is like
an endorsement of OWS by the American Nazi Party and Communist Party USA.
@ 22 Annette.” I wonder if my employer will let me change my ethnic designation on my EEOC report?”
LOL I did that when I was in USAF. I kept getting this forms to fill out from CBPO (consolidated base personnel office) about being treated fairly. I was so tired of filling them out. I asked the “WHITE” guys in the shop if they had to fill them out they said no. I asked the black guys if they did they said yes all the time. I went to CBPO changed my ethnicity to White. CBPO started treating me like it did the majority of the other troops!
I am latino.
“There might be an estimated 12 million Latino votes cast next year.”
So if these illegals votes right, we gave them citizenship? Good plan.
“Perry the Only Credible Choice for Latino Conservatives”
Nonsense! They could always write in Juan Valdez for president, silly la-razaist.
Screw Latino-conservatives, Screw Latinos, Screw Blacks, Screw Whites, Screw Asians, Screw Muslims, Screw Indians, Screw Arabs, Screw homosexuals, Screw Unions. Either act like Americans, and stop asking special treatment for your “group”, or GTHO of America.
Hypehenated-Americans have been systematically destroying America for generations and the politicians who have been pandering to them should be evicted from government.
Perry is a squishy two-faced, talk out of three sides of his mouth, hack scum-bag, perfect hair, make-up covered, phoney politician, just like Romney, Obama and the other professional politicians who have no spine or moral convictions.
If “latinos” think they can throw their power around to some low-life politician to get favors, they aren’t acting like Americans; they’re acting like all the other special interests losers on “K” Street.
The looney crowd from both sides come out of the woodwork on this issue. If you make either side award of the contradictions they will call you either racist or a squish.
Maybe their intuition is right however. Both sides know that Mexican Majorities in the southwest – Texas – will render republicans minority party for the rest of most of our lives.
I say it is inevitable so let’s not let the left take over the intitutions in Texas. Texas Mexicans are way more conservative than Califas Mexicans.
Ruben: You say that you are conservative on some issues. I find this position really creepy. It is like being bisexual. If you have a certain set of fundamental belief — belief in God, Constitution, American Exceptionalism, free enterprise,… Then certian positions come from that.
None of us are ideologically pure, but genarally there is some consistancy.
I see some “moderates” like John Abalon taking the moderate mantel to differentiate themselves in the pundit marketplace. It also enables them to critizize all positions and be on both sides of both issues. Meanwhile shielding themselves from criticism from whatever side is most aggressive on an issue.
The exception is mexican immigration which divedes conservatives greatly.
La Raza is my gay lover. I love little brown men who do whatever I want them to do.
The one thing Latino conservatives can do is derail the Cain train by emphatically showing up voting “Anybody but Cain” and encouraging a large one-time vote in Republican primaries not in support of Perry or Newt (who enjoys some carte blanche in the Latino community) but mainly not to let another black man, particularly a southern, non-immigrant one in the White House. I would not put it past Perry or even Romney to make targeted appeals such as this not only to Hispanics, but also Asians and even white ethnic/bohunk/P.I.G. voters in the Rust Belt and Northeast.
Is your love for the illegals the only thing you ever think about? You’re obsessed with that issue, like it’s the only one that matters to you. You almost never talk about anything else, you don’t talk about anything else with nearly as much passion.
It’s insulting how you think Latinos in this country all feel the same way, one-note obsessed with amnesty and fretting over people saying they’d close the border.
You say you’re conservative on some issues. The only thing I’ve seen you passionate about is your love for illegals, which dominates 95% of your columns. So what gives?
Reuben — great article. It amazes the number of pundits who think Romney won that immigration debate with Perry. I was optimistic about Perry and his willingness to stand his ground when the rest of them were whacking him like a pinata really won my respect. This country has a history of taking in children who are orphaned or misplaced by war or other tragedies. We’ve taken in kids from Europe, Asia, India, Africa, you name it. Kids brought here from Mexico by their parents are not so different. An 18-year-old kid without a country is its own kind of tragedy. By the time they are grown, they are American in all but the legal way. Texas gave some of these bright, hardworking kids a chance to be productive Americans. And by the way, Texas did not create the problem, it was something they dealt with because the federal government left them holding the bag. Now we learn Romneycare gave free medical treatment to illegal immigrants so he better quit throwing rocks at Perry from the big glass house of his. As for La Raza — read some history and get some perspective. The Mexican immigration is one in a long line of influxes to this great country. We’ve absorbed and assimilated people from China, Ireland, Italy, Japan, India, etc. You can choose to be a Supreme Court Judge like Justice Scalia or a Mafia gangster like Don Gambino. It doesn’t matter that the southwest used to be part of Mexico any more that it matters that Indians in North and South America got here by walking across a land bridge from Asia. By your reasoning, Mexico should be given back to China. And by the way, I happen to love Mexican and Cuban cultures as much as my own. But I’ve lived in Mexico and no one will ever convince me the Mexican government works better than the U.S. government.
I have to disagree with La Raza. You will not be the majority. I live in West Texas and almost every family I know has a member who has married an Hispanic person. On an historical level, we are rapidly mixing. This is happening to people that I know at all levels of society. Wealthy and educated to people working minimum wage and everyone in between. In the end, we will all be Americans and that’s the way it should be.
Liz, I have to agree with you about the debate. I think that the people who are obsessed with illegal immigration will destroy the Republican Party. All of the population growth in Texas is Hispanic.

Hispanics will have a strong influence on the next election.

And at the end of the day, the number of illegals who received instate tuition was very small.

We have an administration which is slowly eroding our basic liberties. At every point, they are trying to control our behavior and telling us how to live.
And all some people can think of is the fact that a few illegals got instate tuition. I don’t just call that heartless; I call that clueless.
How to Lose an Election
Definitive results of Republican preferences for their party’s 2012 nominee for president of the United States are far from in although thousands have expressed their opinions in non-binding state straw polls. There won’t be any real results until the numbers from the January 3rd Iowa caucuses and January 1oth New Hampshire primary are tabulated.
Still, based on early polls, the debates, educated guesses, and inconsequential straw ballots, pundits and non-pundits alike have a gut feeling on who will snag the gold GOP ring and, perhaps more importantly, who should be the nominee’s choice for a running mate.
As of now, it looks like former Massachusetts governor Willard Mitt Romney for the top spot. Assuming Mitt wants to win on November 6th,2012, he will pick Florida’s Senator Marco Antonio Rubio to run with him against President Barack Hussein Obama and Person-to-be-Named-Later, after Obama tests how the fickle political winds are blowing.
Designated late night Democrat hatchetmen Leno and Letterman would have tons of idiotic fun poking ridicule at “Willard” and “Marco” while ignoring the equivalent hilarity of “Barack” and his comical gaffes and ineptitude but they won’t get the chance unless Willard and Marco share the GOP ticket.
As we all know, things can change quickly and dramatically in the world of contemporary politics. Witness New York Senator Hillary Clinton’s unexpected fade in the 2008 Democrat presidential sweepstakes and, more recently, Rep. Michelle Bachmann’s and Gov. Rick Perry’s falls from grace among Republicans.
We also know the sheer terror Rubio has struck in the liberal minds and soul-less hearts of Obama’s MSM as seen in the current campaign by the Washington Post, et al. to deconstruct Rubio based on an innocent error concerning the date of his parents’ flight from Castro’s Cuba. The lib theory seems to be, when you have nothing, go with it, the same angle they unsuccessfully used on Herman Cain.
Good man that he is, Cain can’t be elected despite his recent popularity; he’s even more inexperienced and unqualified to be president than a certain community organizer was three years ago and lacks the advantage of mainstream media backing him and concealing his flaws.
Barring some catastrophic event, a Hillary insurrection, or Obama pulling an LBJ, he will head the Democrat ticket next year and, barring a miracle, Romney will be the Republican nominee. He will then have to decide whether to beat Obama or try once again to win in 2016. . .

So lemme see Ruben… You’re trying to state Hispanics will all be ‘single
issue’ voters? This is a VERY degrading implication you’ve tossed, especially towards your fellow Hispanics!
In case you’re unaware, ‘single issue’ voters are normally flagged by LIBTARDS as racist and of lower intelligence.
Aside from all that, it’s quite early in the Primary season to pick or not pick a GOP candidate. Your warnings and alerts go completely without interest to me.
So I would suggest to you the only impact your article will have is to show whichever LIBTARD label you prefer to use, just how ‘single issue’ voter you really are.
Ruben Navarette Jr and Lionel Sosa would like to impose their ethno-centric political world view on American conservatives, with ominous predictions about where the so-called “Latino vote” will go if we do not heed their warnings.
We’ve heard this all before. Throughout his partnership with President George W. Bush, Karl Rove promulgated the thesis that a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens would be a political winner for the Republican Party. His argument, so it went, was that since the so-called Hispanic segment of the population was growing faster than other parts of the body-politic it would be foolish to block an amnesty for illegal aliens that these voters wanted. Furthermore, so this logic contends, this growing minority would punish Republicans for not going along with the Democrats’ amnesty proposals. In other words, the Republican Party should itself co-opt these proposals for amnesty and make them their own, thereby eroding the Democrats’ share of this voting public.
But on what premise is this theory based?
First, it assumes that all US citizens of Hispanic descent favor a pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens, whether these aliens come from Malaysia, Ireland, Kosovo, Somalia or Russia. While it is obviously true that the Leftist, top down, un-elected leadership of the ethno-centric advocacy organizations LA RAZA, MALDEF and LULAC, as well as their organized masses of illegal alien street marchers are boisterous in their clamor for “comprehensive immigration reform,” it isn’t equally clear how many ordinary, everyday US citizens of Hispanic descent share these passions.
Illegal immigration impacts Hispanic-American communities first and foremost, since foreign nationals from south of the border naturally congregate in already established enclaves. These communities therefore sustain the brunt of crime, gang-infestation, competition for already scarce jobs, housing, education and social services. While it may be true that some Hispanic-Americans might nurture a solidarity with their more recently arrived ethnic cousins is this where their own true interests lie? Are their actual real-world interests associated with the illegal arrival of millions of neighbors from their old countries or with their fellow American citizens, with the old world they had left behind or the new society of which they are a part? Isn’t the ethnic demagoguery associated with the so-called “pathway to citizenship” in effect a pathway to Balkanization?
We must ask Mr Navarette Jr, instead of competing in a watered-down imitation of Liberal Democrats’ pandering for the votes of “Amnesty- Hispanics,” wouldn’t it be more prudent as well as more respectful to the Hispanic-American community for the Republican Party to offer a clear alternative, to appeal to their American patriotism and their own real self-interests as US citizens?
Why lump the entire Hispanic-American community, with ancestors from a host of Latin-American countries, with a diversity of histories, cultures, traditions, languages and interests into one homogeneous group as if they all marched to the same drummer? How about offering this vibrant cross-section of American citizens an option other than blind obedience to La Raza and the Democrats.
Second, Mr. Rove’s theory rests on the assumption that newly amnestied voters will remember that the Republican party helped pave their pathway to citizenship and reward the party with future support. But let’s look at the facts. The overwhelming majority of illegal aliens have less than a high-school education and many are not even literate in their own languages. This doesn’t mean they aren’t good people, but it does mean that they are natural recipients of the welfare state. Once they receive citizenship in the USA will they be more likely to favor the big-government, wealth-transferring, multiculturalist nanny-state promised and promoted by the Democrat Party or the smaller-government, self-reliant, lower-taxing, entrepreneurial, assimilative society championed by the Republican party?
What’s more, the tens of millions of newly amnestied citizens would legally be able to bring in their next of kin through chain migration, swelling the overall number to potentially more than fifty million within a decade of the amnesty – constituting a permanent Democrat majority.
We’ve become fond of Mr. Rove’s Cable TV chalk boards. Here’s a four liner neither he nor Mssrs Navarette Jr and Sosa have yet to consider:
If twelve to twenty million illegal aliens are amnestied it can be conservatively estimated that a majority of these new citizens will vote Democrat.
If there is no amnesty none of these illegal aliens will vote, period.
If there is an amnesty current US Citizens of Hispanic origin will vote as they have been voting anyway.
If there is no amnesty current US Citizens of Hispanic origin will vote as they have been voting anyway.
A majority of US Citizens of Hispanic origin (with the exception of Cuban-Americans) have consistently voted Democrat. Many of those within this voting population who ardently support amnesty will blame the Democrats for not getting one, since it is the Democrats who did not push through an amnesty when they had the political power and the unprecedented opportunity to do so. So where is the political up-side for the Republican Party to support an amnesty, in either the short or long run?
Had there been an amnesty in ‘06 or ‘07, as Senators John McCain and Edward Kennedy and President GW Bush proposed, millions more would have since then entered the country illegally, as in point of fact they have anyway. The border wasn’t secured prior to those votes and hasn’t been secured since those votes. Visa violators continued to illegally remain in the country before those votes and many more recent arrivals have illegally continued to do so since those votes. The Federal government under Bush and Obama contented itself with cosmetic measures and half-hearted initiatives, abdicating its responsibility to effectively enforce existing immigration law and to secure our borders.
Even with the successful passage of McCain-Kennedy in ‘06 we would today be debating anew whether or not to provide an amnesty for the four or five million illegal aliens who entered since. And if an amnesty were enacted tomorrow, five years from now Congress would be debating what to do with the additional five million who will have entered by that time.
If the history of past amnesties has taught us anything it’s this: Talk of amnesty, the promise of amnesty, especially the enactment of amnesty legislation as in ‘86, simply encourages more and more illegal immigration. Limited or general, amnesties act as flashing green lights to the likely hundreds of millions on earth who would like to move to America.
Until the borders are really secured, work-place laws are really upheld and the benefits of the welfare state are restricted to US citizens and legal immigrants only, any consideration of amnesty is a perilous venture into a fantasy land of false promises, unrealistic expectations, the abrogation of the rule of law and the perpetuation of an immoral, systematic exploitation of unending waves of cheap labor from third world countries.
We already have Federal laws in place to get the illegal immigration fiasco under control. The Congress has not abdicated its responsibility by failing to enact new laws favored by open-borders utopians. No such laws are required, comprehensive or otherwise. The problem is with the Executive branch and the Obama administration, which has turned itself into the greatest scoff-law in the country.
Yes Mr Navarette Jr, the Republican Party is missing a great opportunity, but not at all in the way you see it. The way to increase the percentage of American-Hispanics voting for the Republican Party is:
1) to raise their standard of living (and everyone else’s) by a return to free-market principles
2) by an open appeal to their shared American patriotism and by
3) clearly and unapologetically stating the unequivocal rejection of amnesty in any guise, shape or form.
US citizens of Hispanic origin don’t love the rule of law less than other Americans and understand that the United States already has the most generous legal immigration policy on earth. Given a clear choice and a positive appeal, many will rally.
These positions won’t get Republicans a majority of these voters right away, but it will diminish the Democrats’ share of the vote in the short run and hasten the integration of the Hispanic-American community into the great melting pot that is America, to a time in the not too distant future when hyphens matter to Hispanics no more than they do to any of the immigrant groups who preceded them. It is the best path for America and the only practical path for the survival of the Republican Party as a majority party worthy of the electorate.
Governor Perry has not lost the support of conservatives simply because of his gaffes on the debating stage. He has forfeited this support because of his record as governor of Texas, in consistently blocking all legislative impediments to illegal immigration and in consistently supporting every legislative incentive for its continuance, tuition breaks being just the most publicized of many other programs. He has played the pandering game of the liberal Democrats.
Elected officials of the American people take an oath to defend and protect the American people, citizens who are of all ethnic, racial and religious backgrounds, not the tens of millions of foreign nationals who either wish to live here or who have already moved here clandestinely and illegally. As a proud American citizen of Hispanic descent I do not regard myself as either a Republican or a Mexican. I am an American! And neither Mr Navarette Jr, Mr Lionel Sosa, LULAC, MALDEF or LA RAZA will tell me what to think or how to vote.
Americans workers of all races and origin are suffering due to the saturation of the work force . Skilled and Non Skilled workers are negatively affected in their ability to find employment and put food in the table when Companies of all sizes , have to their disposal so enormous pool of workers to choose from. Many Americans are willing to take low paying jobs desperate from some income, including service sector and retail.
Many skilled workers ,with degrees in engineering, education etc find in a dead end situation. The influx of skilled workers from other nations , many of them , entering legally by different venues including HB1 help to keep Americans of all races without a paycheck.
When an legal immigrant goes to Latin America for example, such immigrant is supposed to assimilate to the culture for example of Mexico , become a loyal Mexican and uphold Mexican interest, speak the language of their new land and raise their children as loyal Mexicans. It is contradictory from the so called ” ethnocentric advocates regardless of their ideological , political leaning to ignore such fact and instead of supporting the melting pot, assimilation , to bow to the divisive salad ,”cultural model”.
Are we not supposed to be Americans first ? over be Latino,African European, Asian whatever ? Are we not one people, American?
