Mr. Lewis is a keen observer, but far too optimistic on the topic at hand--perhaps in part because he unconsciously applies the scientific method to Liberal/Democrat politics.

To start, Lewis observes that Pelosi and fellow Dem Leon Panetta are telling contradictory stories about who's lying. Our host concludes that one must therefore fail, and then be either abandoned or overtly destroyed by the rest of the Dem/Liberal pack.

But a far more likely outcome is...nothing of the sort. It all vanishes, with the help of a cooperative press. Panetta has no need to defend "his" agency by attacking Pelosi if the press isn't pressing the issue. And they won't--because they have every interest in strengthening, not weakening, the Dem/Liberal cause. Case closed.

Second: Seeing the two contradictory stories from Pelosi and Panetta, our scientist-host concludes that Obama will be forced to throw one of the two under the bus. But this seems rather naive--again because there is no pressure from the press to get to the bottom of the issue. Accordingly, why would Obama be *forced* to choose between the two?

The problem with most conservatives here (and I'm one) is that y'all are applying the kind of reasoning and logic used when *Republicans* are in charge. When Dems run all the branches, the logic changes to "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil" and "anything's fair to keep Dem/Liberals in power."

Finally, our host believes CIA bureaucrats--their careers or even their freedom allegedly put in jeopardy by Pelosi--will be moved to fight back by sinking Pelosi. Again, this would be the case if a Republican were president, but not now. The bureaucrats know that, rhetoric notwithstanding, the notion of putting everyone involved in waterboarding on trial is only intended to snag Cheney and possibly Bush--not the CIA people. Plus (again) there's no push by the press. So there's no need to fight.

But in any case, enjoyed the article.

James Lewis:

<i>"Obama may be forced to pick sides."</i>

Dream on! Switching sides and passing bucks are what our President does best. Folks on the right need to rid themselves of their obsession with Obama and their conviction that eventually he'll run into the brick wall of reality or of governing vs. campaigning or of leaks from a disgruntled CIA, or, or, or.... Not gonna happen.

As you yourself point out, Presidents come and go, but Congress is forever. Obama's 100 Days would have been a dismal failure without the Democratic majority in Washington. Happily, Congress is also the weakest link in the Obama chain, because the Obama machine exists for the sole purpose of building up Obama, not helping other Democrats. Unhappily, the disparity between Obama's popularity numbers and the sorry ratings of Congress are a virtual roadmap that Republicans don't seem to be reading.

It's clear that Pelosi is lying, but that will hardly matter if Republicans aren't actually naming the names of her enablers, exploiting Democratic divisions for a change, and exposing the cynical cronyism of "Pelosi's Congress" to sunlight. Republicans don't even need to defeat Obama in 2012, if they make a decent start on taking Congress back in 2010. Democrats never defeated George Bush, and he was no salesman. If they had been pushing an identifiable agenda of their own, instead of fixing their sights on the President, it wouldn't have taken them six years to turn the tables.

I only hope Republicans don't make that same mistake with a President who can shift gears as effortlessly as Obama does and who, unlike his predecessor, is out in front of the public selling himself everyday.

It's quite simple - the Democrats have been traitors who for political reasons have attempted to sabotage an American President doing his best to protect the American People.

Nancy Pelosi and her ilk? If there were justice they would all hang.

I'm still waiting on Oscar to post the pertinent definition of "torture."

We all know it is illegal.

But what is the definition?

Allow me to help. As you might imagine, its...um...complicated.

No questions :)

Maybe a little expansion...

<i>That the Left postures as though it is on the side of social justice, but it is on the side of the greatest and most pernicious violators of social justice. And its hands are drenched in human blood in terms of the mass murdering ideologies and regimes it has supported and aided and abetted.</i>

Oscar Wao:

Please tell me exactly how many innocent American victims you would accept in order to not inconvenience a known terrorist.

The only allowable answer is 'One. Me.'

Then I would know you had the courage of your convictions - but I know you don't. You're just a wussy liberal who is uncomfortable with the reality that the world isn't a big playground with benevolent teachers carefully overseeing your play.

spit happens. quit wishing it won't. Utopias are only found in the mind, where reality isn't.
