PalinTracker: McCain Aide Nonplussed, Imus Gets Misogynist, A Second Book Coming
Further Proof of the Need for Energy Independence
Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 5:39pm
The British newspaper The Independent reported today that Gulf oil producers were negotiating with Russia, China, Japan and France to replace the dollar in pricing oil with a basket of currencies.[1] According to the Wall Street Journal, Arab oil officials have denied the story, but even the possibility of such a talk weakens the dollar and renews fears about its continued viability as an international reserve currency.[2] In fact, today a United Nations official called for a new global reserve currency to replace the dollar and end our “privilege” to run up huge deficits.[3] We can see the effect of this in the price of gold, which hit a record high today in response to fears about the weakened dollar.[4]
All of this is a result of our out-of-control debt. This is why we need to rein in spending, and this is also why we need energy independence. A weakened dollar means higher commodity prices. This will make it more difficult to pay our bills — including the bill to import oil.
In his book Architects of Ruin, Peter Schweizer points out that the Obama administration is focusing primarily on “green energy,” while ignoring our need to develop our domestic conventional energy resources.[5] We’re ignoring the looming crisis caused by our dependence on foreign oil. Because we’re dependent on foreign nations for our oil, we’re also at their mercy if they decide to dump the dollar as their trade currency. We can’t allow ourselves to be so vulnerable to the whims of foreign nations. That’s why we must develop our own domestic supplies of oil and gas.
Though the chant of “Drill, baby, drill” was much derided, it expressed the need to confront this issue head-on before it reaches a crisis point.
Bottom line: let’s stop digging ourselves into debt and start drilling for energy independence.

At National Review Online, Kathryn Jean Lopez reports:
Penguin emails:
Please note that THE PERSECUTION OF SARAH PALIN by Matthew Continetti is moving up from next February to November 12, 2009 to coincide with the publication of Palin’s controversial memoir.
Continetti, the associate editor of the Weekly Standard, shows that because Palin was a strong and popular conservative with traditional values, Washington Democrats and their allies in the so-called “mainstream media” decided she had to be destroyed. His book details how these elite liberals attacked her in ways that no previous candidate had ever experienced. Everything from her clothing to her parenting style to her church were fair game, and no rumor was too malicious to spread.
THE PERSECUTION OF SARAH PALIN will surprise people with its fresh details about Palin and the 2008 campaign.
For a sample of one of Continetti’s articles on Palin, please click here.
Meanwhile, In Fairbanks, Palin attended a ceremony in Fairbanks welcoming home the 1st Stryker Brigade, which recently returned from a year-long deployment in Iraq. Her son Track is a member of the brigade.
October 9
UPI (United Press International) reports that Palin’s offers to stump for GOP gubernatorial contenders Bob McDonnell (VA) and Chris Christiie (NJ) have been ignored. UPI — whose byline reads 100 Years of Journalistic Excellence — cites as its source a blog: Politico.
Among the week’s distractions: scattered reports of Palin soliciting a lipstick line (breaking news from the Huffington Post, via Stylelist.com), Levi Johnston (father of Palin’s grandson Tripp) pumping to pose for Playgirl, and Tina Fey resurrecting her virtual Palin, now hopelessly confused by many liberal media devotees with the actual Palin. Oh, and a seemingly never-ending story about an Xbox autographed by Palin now being offered on eBay for $1.1 million.

Stop the presses!

Barbara,
Thank you for this continuing series. It offers a valuable look into the progress of Sarah Palin’s trek into American political life in the lower 48.
Imus was being misogynist? He’s just kidding around.
I think you just have to look at the job she did in Alaska to see the potential in this lady. She isn’t just another self absorbed fence sitter collecting a cheque and waiting to see her name in print. She actually did something, in the real world, she’s a real person. Has America become nothing but a bunch of liberal guilties unable to separate real life from a soap opera? Has America become so shallow that style trumps substance? Being as far away from Washington as she is is her greatest asset from what I can see.
Steve Schmidt and the other key John McCain campaign people are pro-abortion secularists. They perceive themselves as elites who consider anyone embracing the cultural values of Sarah Palin to be a reactionary backwoods yahoo. Schmidt was similar to an advertising executive selected to market a product or service he or she finds repugnant. Imagine someone handling the McDonald’s account that is repulsed by the company’s cheeseburgers and fries. Senator McCain is officially a pro-life politician. However, the so-called moderates within the Republican Party think he won’t do much about it. Sarah Palin, on the other hand, represented an existential threat because she did not abort her mentally challenged son.
Sarah Palin’s appeal is only fully understood by those of us who love her and relate to her. She is one of us…non-Washington and real American.
Join others like Palin at http://www.handsoffamerica.net
Sarah Palin’s existence forces elite snobs to recognize that their own small, myopic and provincial lives are miserable failures despite their Ivy-degrees, their celebrity fame, their great fortune and wealth.
Plus, I admire her Womanhood; she’s not weak sister Feminist who rips out wombs and castrates balls.
How I love the Rugged Individual!
When I heard Sarah Palins speech to the GOP convention, my very first thought was that someone is finally speaking for me. Since then I have studiously researched her and her executive achievements. I respect her, and should she choose to run, I will vote for her. If she doesn’t, I will vote for the candidate that she endorses. The howling of the liberal hyenas, for me, is expected and ignored. The caricature that they present of her makes them look intentionally cruel, and shows them to be unapologetic liars. Were Sarah Palin President today, I guarantee that she would not be bowing to Islamic Royalty, kissing despots butts, or apologizing for her country. In short, the mother of five, Sarah Palin, is more of a man than the current embarrassment in the Oval Office.
Geee…. I guess it doesn’t pay to P.O. this lady! I think her enemies are going to be very sorry that they poked her with their sticks.
Madam President Sarah Palin. I can live with that.
Wait a minute, Barbara Curtis, you did not write about what John McCain said in the interview supportive of Sarah Palin and without doing so, there is a misleading impression about McCain said in the CNN interview.
McCain expressly rejected the suggestion that Palin hurt the GOP ticket, that instead, Sarah Palin had energized the GOP and that until the stock market crashed, the GOP ticket with Sarah Palin on it was ahead in the polls. McCain also said Palin was one of the bright stars in the GOP and was personally very fond of her. That was a flat rejection of what Steve Schmidt had said recently.
When Steve Schmidt talks, it is Steve Schmidt, not John McCain. About a week ago there was a Politico article about how McCain was trying to make the GOP more centrist, but it was all based on what Steve Schmidt was saying, not what John McCain was saying or doing. In fact, John McCain this year has as conservative voting record as any — against all bailouts, against all deficit spending bills, against Sotomayer, against numerous Obama Administration nominees. The New York Times recently complained about McCain being a “bomb thrower” in his opposition to ObamaCare.
I point his out because in writing about Palin’s journey, you should be fair to McCain, who was after all the man who asked Sarah Palin to be the GOP VP nominee in 2008.
8. yabadabado:
“Madam President Sarah Palin. I can live with that.”
Really? How about Secretary of State Barney Rubble.
Sarah Palin is a smart woman, one who can help the Party, but I have to agree that it would be a catastrophe for her to be on the ticket in 2012. There is too much controversy and this time, we simply cannot afford anything but a slam dunk. New faces, not any reminders of one of the worst defeats the Republicans have suffered. There is too much at stake. Our country, for one thing.
IT’S ALL ABOUT BEING A MEMBER OF THE “FRATERNITY”….don’t you get it??? strictly adolescent style….and Sarah Palin is NOT A MEMBER of the Fraternity. Didn’t go to Ivy League, lives in the sticks, gets her manicured nails dirty cleaning fish, a beautiful young woman with a hunky husband AND a family, who managed to get ELECTED in spite of ALL THIS as Governor of a State (albeit IT TOO IS NOT RECOGNIZED INSIDE THE BELTWAY–remember “community organizer” held much more cache than being Governor of (hold your nose) ALASKA!!)
She’s an INTERLOPER and a THREAT, and like the plague, must be eradicated. Her and her little dog, too. (See Olbermann, Maddow, et al)
The BEST THING about this fracas is–being an OUTSIDER–she doesn’t play by their rules. GO SARAH….just the burr under the saddle we need.
BTW….nice guy,McCain, but where’s the hook to pull him OFF center stage, NOW…please???
John Weaver: Palin would be a “political apocalypse.”

Imus is a pseudo hillbilly and for the life of me, I can’t figure out why he would want to be one.
Barbara,
Thank you for this continuing series. It offers a valuable look into the progress of Sarah Palin’s trek into American political life in the lower 48.
It has elevated PJM to tabloid status.
Anybody here think that Palin wrote that FACEBOOK post?
11. Joe:
“we simply cannot afford anything but a slam dunk. ”
Slam dunk . . . slam dunk . . . where have I heard that before? I think it was from the mouth of a Medal of Freedom winner. Slam dunk . . . I’ll get back to you.
“Sarah Palin did not have a governor’s seat handed down to her, she earned it. She understands what it is to be a woman having to fight obstacles . . . ”
Fight and quit. Where’s the strength? Where’s the fortitude? Where’s the commitment? Where’s the intellect? Where’s the truth? Where’s the sense of duty to the electorate? Not in Palin.
“Really? How about Secretary of State Barney Rubble.”
Barney Rubble was one of the Flintstones and usually smarter than Fred, don’t you mean Barney Fife? I believe he’s currently President of the United States.
Golly, where’s the Romney Tracker, the Huckabee…, etc? After all when Caribou Barbie quit her job in Juneau it was said by so many to be all over for the Arctic Fox. When is everyone going to stop paying her any attention? Every time she states the obvious on Facebook we get all this echo from Republicans saying she’s right. Why can’t these boys speak up without waiting for Palin? Worse…people keep making up new names for her. I especially like The Thrilla from Wasilla. And don’t forget, political genius James Carville is adamant that she would be a bad pick for 2012. If we only had an acceptable candidate who would take the fight to Obama and his posse. Maybe one of these days Mitt will get fired up and ready to go. Be patient.
So far Palin’s offers to campaign for candidates has been turned down. The left would go crazy if she did. The right is too “scared” of the left.
The right does not fight back. “we’re not gonna play that game” blahblahblah As the left stomps all over them.
They are merely lumps in suits. Palin has a spark. She fights back. Sarah is one of the very few on the right that actually has an opinion and stands up. She quit as governor, so did gov of Kansas, and AZ..
The conservatives, right, Republicans, what ever you choose to call them…need to grow a pair.
Imus is a dufus. I saw an interview with him and his wife, he’s rude to her, no respect for women period. McCain would have fallen flat if not for Palin.
‘ordered her book, hope it goes to #1 for months!! Hope she becomes a multimillionaire from what ever she does. She and family put up with hell from the left as the right stood by with their fingers up their nose. I can’t stand either party.
One more thing about Sarah Palin. She smiles too much. Okay, I stole that from Jane Austen, but it’s true and in context. Remember Darcy was just trying to warn his friend from picking the wrong woman, after all, Miss Bennett’s daddy was just barely a gentleman and her mother’s family were not at all part of the aristocracy. So if you think the Barracuda is about to wink at you, turn your head quickly. Her daddy was a school teacher.
11.: Slam dunk? Who would that be? The rest of the Republican party is a bunch of bland, replaceable middle aged white males with the collective charisma of a bowl of noodles. Palin electrifies the nation. After a Presidential campaign, she will bring many more voters to her side than she will repel. Pay no attention to the cynics. The inside the beltway boys are about to be tossed out on their ears.
The Beta-Gamma males of the Nelson Rockefeller GOP go bananas when a real woman shows up.
Please stop it with the “spokesperson” crap. She is the conservatives’ spokesman. Stop putting an apron on her with PC BS.
Run Bachmann with Palin and Malkin as State.

Been done.
Don’t you think that Mrs. Clinton looks more like Barney?
Apologies to Barney…
Four quick posts with a vivo thrown in. Maybe you had better contact David S. and discuss the possibility of Palinesque masturbatory fantasies.
Palin does seem to bring you to life.
I don’t think it is appreciated yet what a consummate politician Mrs. Palin is. That is why she scares BOTH parties.
If anyone can clean out the Aegean stables that Congress has become, it’s Sara.
She needs to pick the right running mate. General Petraeus would be a reinforcing choice.
Jeb would be a better one for the right and the ‘old boys’ of the GOP, but he would make the rabid moonbats even worse.
Micheal Steele would be good, maybe. She needs a running mate that will keep the GOP money machine on line and flowing smooth. The good General and Mr. Steele might not be much help there. Her greatest task will be getting the Conservative base which wants to burn D.C. to the ground and rebuild it in harness and pulling with the GOP money machine, which sees the Republican party as the key to more wealth.
When you get right down to it, most of the time the side with the most money wins.
What is really needed is a Constitutional Convention.
@10. Now and Then: – How about Secretary of State Barney Rubble.
Ah, so that’s the nickname ‘she’ goes by in private. That makes sense. NO WONDER that poor African kid was confused.
Palinites. … worshiping at the alter of ignorance and self-centrism. We don’t have to go to far to figure out why this country has been derailed from its original principles … it has been derailed by people who disdain learning yet think they know it all. Hey Palinites, guess what? Just because you think something in your brain doesn’t make it real. Pretty shocking, eh?
I really doubt we need to worry about Palin taking over the country anytime soon. Or ever. She’s not a threat. She’s a joke. http://www.newsy.com/videos/sarah_palin_first_or_last_choice_for_the_gop
Dinx, That would be “Altar”, not “Alter.”
29. Dinx
Remove Palin, insert Obama and you join reality.
I agree, we do not need to go far to understand why this country is in trouble, just look at who the uninformed, uneducated elected to run things…a pitiful example of leadership.
29. Dinx:
Please enlighten all the ignorant Palinites by detailing those original principles that you alluded to.
$5 will get you $10 that he gets it wrong…
Oh, please, please, please nominate Sarah Palin for President. There is so much more to say…
I can’t wait.
Peace.

“A Second Book Coming”
I have no doubt that Palin is about to become a relatively wealthy woman, ala Limbaugh and Hannity with red meat for the teabaggers.
And it’s all on the backs of the ignorant who actually pony up and buy her mindless drivel. Go Sarah. Sink the GOP.
Listen to the trolls squeal about Sarah!!! If she is such a nonissue /loser/joke, why do all of you get your panties in a wad at the mention of her name?! You wimps are scared to death because you know people are finally figuring out what a POS the great “o” is. . . jharp, why your constant use of the gay “teabagger” term? Is that your oblammo fantasy?
OK, so no one thinks Palin wrote the FACEBOOK entry. Just in case you’re not sure, here you go:
“Alaska’s mission – to contribute to America. We’re strategic IN the world as the air crossroads OF the world, as a gatekeeper of the continent. Bold visionaries knew this – Alaska would be part of America’s great destiny.
Our destiny to be reached by responsibly developing our natural resources. This land, blessed with clean air, water, wildlife, minerals, AND oil and gas. It’s energy! God gave us energy.
So to serve the state is a humbling responsibility, because I know in my soul that Alaska is of such import, for America’s security, in our very volatile world. And you know me by now, I promised even four years ago to show MY independence… no more conventional “politics as usual”.
Keep this in mind when you read her cleaned-up dictaphone pages called Going Rouge.
1. Ruvy: “Barbara,Thank you for this continuing series. It offers a valuable look into the progress of Sarah Palin’s trek into American political life in the lower 48.”
Yeah, it’s like tracking H1N1.
Politics as usual ? Don’t think so.

You’ve got me all wrong. I very much like the destruction of the GOP that Palin is causing. I hope she writes several books. Every dollar spent on her ignorant drivel is one less dollar spent on the GOP.
And I’m sure that Palin is going to become fairly wealthy as a result of the morons who worship her. Is this a great country or what?
I use the term teabagging because that is the term coined by the organizers. Remember, send a teabag to the Congress?
Misogyny, anyone? Snipes by men >>
==================
This is baloney. More main stream women trash Palin then men do. Just because a man trashes a female politician doesn’t make it misogyny unless you have a problem with men.
Palin will never get much female support against Obama outside of from the South and Midwest. Too many of these women on the East and West Coast and in Chicago have the hots for Obama. They think of his white mother and it gets them all worked up. Obama like Clinton got elected by women based upon his sex appeal to them. Sexism in reverse if you will. They were too crazy about his physical appeal to give a darn about his policies. For most of them that will not change in 2012.
My suggestion for her next book to follow going rogue?
“Going Commando”. After the millions to be earned on the first book this title will guarantee a new round of intrigue and keep interest at a peek. Plus, the money will keep flowing in for her and her family. Also, I think her decision to quit politics and lay low for a couple of years was actually a very wise thing to do. Good Luck to her !
I find the leftist bashing of Palin to be absurd coming from a party that put up and elected a Junior Senator from a corrupt state with absolutely no experience in anything other than community organizing.
No foreign policy experience. None zip nada…
No executive experience at all. They guy hasn’t even run a lemonade stand.
His only talent is campaigning which only takes a good liar to be successful.
And guess what,, it shows. He is a joke to the rest of the world,,
Why do you think all the 3rd world dictators love him? duhh… The moron has even sided with many of them in trying to support Zelaya in his bid for control of the Republic of the Honduras.
He had no balls with the Iranian election disgrace, people are still dying from that.
He is a wimp in a suit and the world leaders know it. They pretend to like him because they know they can take advantage of the U.S. with this loser in the oval office.
Obama has no clue where to begin as far as actually administrating the business of a country much less the most powerful one on the face of the planet. He is out of his league entirely.
To listen to the complaints from the left in referring to Palin is comical at the least.
It is all they know how to do, attacking any challenger, because there is simply no way to defend their own leaders actions.
Obama is a failure and they know it. He is the laughing joke, oh my he won the Nobel,, haha what a joke , tell me what for?
That puts him in the company of Arafat, Carter and Gore.. what a club that is. what an embarrassment to the office of the presidency.
even his thug dictators friends say he is not deserving, well except for Castro,,
If he was a real man he would not hide his life accomplishments, whatever they may be, behind lawyers.
What is he so worried about that the people may find out about him?
He is either so insecure in his ability that he hides his past or he is a liar.
I think he is both.
The pathetic leadership being displayed now is what you get when you let the leftist experiment with social engineering.
A person should be judged by his / her deeds done, by their demonstrated character, Not by their ethnicity, color, or rhetoric filled with flowing promises.
Mr. I voted present 125 times Jr. Senator has shown no redeeming character what so ever. Maybe he felt redeemed sitting in the racist Rev. Wright church for 20 years. (oh I forgot he didn’t hear that stuff, my bad..)
Then he tries to pass it off like the Ayers relation ship, Funny how neither of those 20 year + “friends” were the men he thought he knew.
He only let one of them marry him & his wife and baptize his children and the other obviously wrote one or both of his claimed autobiographies.
But I am sure he didn’t Really know those guys.. no I’m sure of that.
Talk is cheap , that should be apparent to all by now.
Liars will always be what they are,,,, Liars.
I thoroughly enjoy when PJM does an article about Sarah Palin, those who distain her come out and try to enlighten us who are uniformed, or just plain ignorant. what I enjoy most is how they use pursuasive arguments to help back their claim. Thos like jharp that said….sorry, I mean there is David S with his insight of…., oops again. Okay, then Biblio 44 with his/her astoundingy informative piece…..darn, well we can’t forget the well thought out arguments of Now and Then with…….., sorry again. At least they try to enlighten us with wisdom. Sorry I didn’t drink that kool-aid, so I remain ignorant of their arguments that they do not rpesent when trying to help us fools understand. Or, wait, are they sexists because they don’t agree with a woman? I know if I don’t agree with the president I must be a racist, they will certainly let me know that. Although I find it hard to be a racist against a 1/2 white 1/4 african and 1/4 arab president, doesn’t majority rule?
As much as I disagree with much of the criticism of Palin, I don’t think that automatically assuming sexist motives for calling her “a dope” is valid.
Imus may sincerely believe she is stupid. He’s entitled to that opinion. I wish someone would challenge him on it, and ask how a person that dumb could have become governor of Alaska, and do quite well at it until the relentless politically-motivated attacks started. But I would not assume that he’s sexist for calling her dumb, any more than I’d consider myself (or any of you) racist for believing that Obama is completely unsuited for the job he finds himself in.
That’s a cheap rhetorical ploy. It’s wrong when they do it, and it’s wrong when we do it also.
46. Bob NY:
Thank you for your artful and persuasive insights. I stand corrected. Ididn’t know they grew them as smart as you up there in liberal country. Wow, how could I possibly resist in the face of such compelling analysis? Forgive me.
Hail Rush. Go Sarah!
Now and Then, joe, and other Palin detractors:
Let’s see how the book reads, and how her book tours and interviews go. See if she’s an incurious, slow-witted, ignorant throwback to the 2008 campaign who’s no good without a ghost-writer and an interview script, and who makes people look backwards rather than forwards. Your prognostications of coloring books and despair might be premature.
We don’t need a third party or a Constitutiional Conventiion. Both represent angry and ignorance and confusion over the will to win and rebuild.
Nothing, but nothing brings out Pavolovian left-wing barking like a mention of Sarah Palin. And listening to them or reading them yields about as much substance as a kennel full of dogs.
@46. Bob NY:
I thoroughly enjoy when PJM does an article about Sarah Palin, those who distain her come out and try to enlighten us who are uniformed, or just plain ignorant.
I did try for a while to enlighten the ignorant. I’ve decided the better strategy is to embrace the idiocy. Let the GOP drown in its own effluvium. If you can’t see the deficiencies in Palin as a candidate, who am I to burst your bubble? Anyway, it will be fun to watch the fireworks if Palin can keep herself “relevant” that long.
For the record I don’t “distain” her. I think she is great for the Democrats, and look forward to another masterful performance as she does her best impression of a kamikaze. She’s a real American, dontcha know?
You betcha!
Peace.
DS
It’s a laugh whenever Sarah Palin’s name is mentioned in the Blogoshere as the dimwitted lefty trolls rally around to exclaim their wee-weed up selves by attacking on all fronts…they really have their panties in a wad over SP. I really chuckle when I see the “Peace” tripe from DS aka Dumb Shitte!
I heard Imus make those remarks about Sarah Palin. He wasn`t kidding #2. With all the trouble he`s gotten himself into over the years you would think Imus would be finished making on air mistakes. If he said it he meant it.
Fox News has hired Imus for a morning show on Fox Business Network. Shame on Fox for that. As I have said many times, in 5 years Fox will be no different than CNN. They are slowly moving more and more to the left under the moniker of `fair & balanced`. I say nonsense…..
Imus has done a wonderful thing with his ranch for children.
I’ll just leave it at that.
Always be willing to remind people that those who say that Palin is not qualified to be president are the same ones who were so confident that Obama was destined to be the greatest president since Lincoln. If they are right about him, we should trust them about Palin. If they are wrong about Obama, their views of Palin are completely worthless.
How is Obama doing lately?
The main reason the Sick republican party has not warmed up to MS Palin is quite simple .
The party is now based center left sadly and ”returned “” to North Eastern Elite Limousine Rockerfellow County Club out of touch politics .
A sure loser ….. Example you ask ? McCain
We need a devout hero general David Pertraeus for 2012 !
With Palin or Two term Rep Ms Bachmann from Minnesota …… She is the real deal !
I think Sarah Palin is one of the most beautiful women in United States, especially the most beautiful woman ever to appear in national American politics.
In the minds of liberals being down to earth and conservative equals low intelligence. Try changing the name Sarah Palin with George Bush in the anti Palin comments. It sounds very familiar.
It’s interesting because, when reading David S, “Now and then” and Vivo intelligence is not the first thing that comes to mind. After socialism has failed 1000 times they still believe in it. Thinking: “this time it will be great”. How intelligent.
Dear misguided socialists. In order to be intelligent, abstract thinking is not enough. There needs to be some logic involved as well.
Try this:
- Fact: Socialism has created failure and misery everywhere it’s bin implemented.
- Intelligent and logical conclusion: Socialism doesn’t work.
Palin is just the Repub Obama. An unqualified, unaccomplished celebrity that excites some like an American Idol contestant.
There is no ‘there’ there. The reason the Obama fans are so threatened by Palin is because they see the same unhinged support for Palin that they show for Obama.
Just put these two celebs on TV in 2012 and let people phone their vote in. It’s the same thing.
Off topic but an interesting piece, describing what transpires when a group (libturds, in this case) get gooberstomped by the likes of, let’s say… Sarah Palin!
———————–
Characterizing an enigma, or… defining an internet troll;
The object of this page is to bring together a definitive document to cover the utter
sadness of the Internet troll. Usually, a troll is nothing more than a passing nuisance, but, as this page will show, they can be a worry (stalkers). However, it is almost invariably an inadequate individual who can be safely ignored.
This page will define the activity, and help with early recognition; once acknowledged, trolls can take up residence, and, like athlete’s foot, can be difficult to shift. And when you’ve finished here, I recommend this fairly comprehensive guide to managing sad thirteen year olds loose on Mom’s computer.
What Is A Troll?
The term derives from “trolling”, a style of fishing which involves trailing bait through a likely spot hoping for a bite. The troll posts a message, often in response to an honest question, that is intended to upset, disrupt or simply insult the group.
Usually, it will fail, as the troll rarely bothers to match the tone or style of the group, and usually its ignorance shows.
Why do trolls do it?
I believe that most trolls are sad people, living their lonely lives vicariously through those they see as strong and successful.
Disrupting a stable newsgroup gives the illusion of power, just as for a few, stalking a strong person allows them to think they are strong, too.
For trolls, any response is ‘recognition’; they are unable to distinguish between irritation and admiration; their ego grows directly in proportion to the response, regardless of the form or content of that response.
Trolls, rather surprisingly, dispute this, claiming that it’s a game or joke; this merely confirms the diagnosis; how sad do you have to be to find such mind-numbingly trivial timewasting to be funny?
Remember that trolls are cowards; they’ll usually post just enough to get an argument going, then sit back and count the responses (Yes, that’s what they do!).
Troll – Angler or Underbridge Dweller?
How can troll posts be recognised?
No Imagination – Most are frighteningly obvious; sexist comments on nurses’ groups, blasphemy on religious groups .. I kid you not.
Pedantic in the Extreme – Many trolls’ preparation is so thorough, that while they waste time, they appear so ludicrous from the start that they elicit sympathetic mail – the danger is that once the group takes sides, the damage is done.
False Identity – Because they are cowards, trolls virtually never write over their own name, and often reveal their trolliness (and lack of imagination) in the chosen ID. As so many folk these days use false ID, this is not a strong indicator on its own!
Crossposting – Any post that is crossposted to several groups should be viewed as suspicious, particularly if unrelated or of opposing perspective. Why would someone do that?
Off-topic posting – Often genuine errors, but, if from an ‘outsider’ they deserve matter-of-fact response; if genuine, a brief apposite response is simply netiquette; if it’s a troll post, you have denied it its reward.
Repetition of a question or statement is either a troll – or a pedant; either way, treatment as a troll is effective.
Missing The Point – Trolls rarely answer a direct question – they cannot, if asked to justify their twaddle – so they develop a fine line in missing the point.
Thick or Sad – Trolls are usually sad, lonely folk, with few social skills; they rarely make what most people would consider intelligent conversation. However, they frequently have an obsession with their IQ and feel the need to tell everyone. This is so frequent, that it is diagnostic! Somewhere on the web there must be an Intelligence Test for Trolls – rigged to always say “above 150″
Who is at risk?
Any newsgroup, bulletin board, forum or chatroom can attract trolls, but they don’t have the brains to attack nuclear physicists, and they are drawn to the quick response where sex, religion and race are found; so politics is easy prey.
One troll famously tried to infiltrate a mensa group; the results read like 100 trolls and one regular, it didn’t have a chance – but it was stupid enough to persist until removed.
When Should You Be Concerned?
Usually, never, though fractured funny bones and occasional waves of nausea have been reported.
When a troll become persistent and personal, you may need to consider the possibility that it has fermented into an Internet Stalker – equally pathetic, if not more so – but sometimes requiring weedkiller. Find Out More at

There were two reasons the the GOP couldn’t beat a lightweight with zero experience with a bona fide war hero with years fo experience:
1. McCain was convinced he would get a fair shake from the media, if he just schmoozed up to them (like you do in the Senate, you know?).
2. McCain selected a charismatic VP candidate and then let the drooling idiots who ran his campaign muzzle her so she couldn’t be more charismatic than him.
That is why I am totally uninterested in the opinions of either John McCain, or anyone who helped him run his pathetic dysfunctional campaign.
if Sarah Palin was president ..
…no daily czar scandels
…no pork stimulus bullsh!t.
…rule of law
…no huge taxes increase hidden as cap and trade
…no huge tax increase hidden as health care reform.
…no bowing to the arabs.
…no talk about a mis-named bill called the “fairness doctrine.
…in fact I don’t think there would be much to complain about unless you are a redistribution(thief) of wealth type.
I don’t think this would be true if McCain had won. so I have to think Glenn Beck has a point that obama has forced the issue …freedomn and capitalism or socialism and slavery. I hope that freedom wins out.

NO SH!T. never has never will, doesn’t stop the narcissist AKA obuma from trying.
You all know the theory about two Americas – the city slicker part and the country hick part. Among the founding fathers there were two opposing schools of thought. Hamilton favored the notion that there should be a class of leaders and a class of followers. Guess which group he claimed. Jefferson felt that a country of equals, independent yeoman farmers, was the way to go. What’s your taste? Let me put this in movie star terms – Bush and Palin are Gary Cooper. Obama is Wallace Shawn.
If Jefferson and Hamilton were running against each other for President, I would choose Jefferson. How about you?
Sarah Palins presence on the 2008 ticket is the only reason Steve Schmidt’s boss, John “RINO” McCain, didn’t gone down in history as the only presidential candidate to lose more states than George McGovern in 1972. Taking advice from this loser is like listening to a 1940 French general telling you what it takes to beat the German Army!
Ruh roh. Looks like the teabaggers have taken yet another one on the chin.
“Most recent polls show an uptick in the president’s numbers. The most notable bump has come from Gallup, where the president’s net approval has gone from +7 (50-43) to +20 (56-36) in less than a week”

@61. JL:
In the minds of liberals being down to earth and conservative equals low intelligence.
Not at all. I know some down to earth conservatives who are quite bright. Terribly misguided, but intelligent for sure.
Try changing the name Sarah Palin with George Bush in the anti Palin comments. It sounds very familiar.
You noticed? It’s my way of recycling. Why work to come up with new insults when all the old ones apply just as well?

- Intelligent and logical conclusion: Electing the GOP doesn’t work.

“Off topic but an interesting piece, describing what transpires when a group (libturds, in this case)”
Right Wing Scat Fascination – Right on Cue.
So consistent. So repressed. So easy.
Let me make this easy for you, fireyourgubs (if that is your REAL name), I have only one purpose here – to point out the self-righteousness, contradictions and hypocrisy of conservatives. The rest of your tortured screed is . . . well, I’ll let you describe it in your own words.
You start with “Off topic, but . . . ” which is followed shortly by one of your troll-defining characteristics . . . “off-topic posting.” The whole thing is awash in such thoughtless giveaways.
Best you should stick with the simple things . . . Hail Rush! Go Sarah! . . . Favre – thumbs up or thumbs down? . . . +P or .38 special . . . Obama bad . . . Democrats eat babies . . .
Face it, gubs, we trolls are the most interesting thing going here. You feel threatened by us because we are real Americans, genuine independent thinkers. Why else would you spend so much time thinking and writing about us? (Sound familiar? It should, this being a Palin post and all.)
So, please, bounce around some more. It’s a good way to kill some time until Chuck Pelto tells us about his Mensa membership again.
The trolls come out immediately when Sarah Palin is mentioned with their drivel and name calling.
jharp would not like the results of calling me a teabagger to my face. It is a nasty term fit for the sodomite he/she probably is.
S.P. is beautiful inside and out.
I admire this wonder-woman with happy thought bubbles. I hope whatever Sarah wants, Sarah gets.

You feel threatened about being teabagged, I get it. But your anger is misdirected.

There are plenty more of us that love Sarah, so trolls–be vigilant.
I fervently wish the Palins enough riches to buy whatever they could ever want—(like a football team, maybe?)
Mrs. Palin is too divisive to be electable at this time. I think that her good looks, adoring family, handsome husband and bona fide actual accomplishments make many women monsterously jealous and fill them with hatred for their own lives that have not met expectations. I speculate that this undercurrent of jealousy will prevent a vast majority of women from voting for her even if she directly represents their interests.
Obama was elected with zero Presidential qualifications precisely because he was not Republican. (I also think some voted for him saying “there, this proves I am not a racist because I voted for the Black guy. Now there is no longer any such thing as racism.”)
Bottom line, Mrs. Palin would make a great President, but her star quality makes her too devisive to get elected at this point. What do we do to diminish this divisive impression?

And what she deserves is respect as a human being. Respect as a mom, a wife, a person who speaks the truth to a nation sorely in need of truth. Troll poop cannot tarnish her. Good try though.
Not threatened, now and when. Disgusted. Like I said, sodomite. And to be honest the trope was started by liberals like you.
I like Sarah Palin and think she would do right by America to the best of her abilities, which far exceed those of our current President. However I disagree with her strongly on Afghanistan.
1) I don’t believe she understands the enemy.
2) I don’t believe she understands the strategic, political, and moral challenges involved.
3) I don’t believe we as a nation have the will to support what is necessary to “win”.
She can change 1 & 2, but she would be crucified both at home and abroad for doing what it will actually take to win, and she couldn’t change that no matter how hard she tried.

I respect her as a human being, a mom, a wife, and person – but claiming that Palin speaks the truth is going too far. Most of what I have heard from this woman has been incoherent, dishonest, or distasteful. If she were to change her stripes, and actually advocate for the best interests of the country and do so with honesty and integrity, I would respect that. Lying and pandering for money? No – I don’t respect that.
Peace.

Boy that “Now and Then” poster sure is a wee bit nervous on these Palin threads.
She’s coming, and when she defeats O, it won’t even be close.
Think 1980 all over again.

If I may offer, the need for a third party is in the hands of the Republicans. The Republican party has done its best to attack its own base for at least 10 years, and arguably 20. It is telling that the opposition to Buraq Hussein Obama is coming not from the “Opposition Party”, but from the grass roots who the Republicans really wish would go away so that they could cut deals with the Democrats [they believe that this time the Democrats won't be lying]. It is further telling, given that the elections in New Jersey and Virginia are going to be critical [if the Democrats lose these, watch Congress-critters try to distance themselves from Obama and his programs]; that the Republican candidates have chosen to refuse the help of the one Republican who can fill any venue, get out the vote, and raise money like there is no tomorrow. They would rather lose than admit that there are Conservatives in the Republican party. I’ve seen it here in Colorado where the state party deliberately lost a Senate seat rather than have a Conservative run.
They have been distancing themselves from us for years. No wonder that Conservatives are having difficulty in telling the leadership of the Republicans from the Democrats they are so in love with.
Just for the record, I have been an active Republican for decades. I have been a delegate to our state convention and all the lower assemblies every time except one in 30 years. Given the gormless and goolie-less actions of the Republican party, the only reason I still am a Republican is because someone I know and trust is running for governor. No promises after the Primary election in 2010.
And if Sarah Palin runs, under whatever party banner, I’m there.
And Robohobo, long time no see. Permission to fly wing on you while you are dealing with the Democrats who are no doubt intimately familiar with teabagging if they call you one. I had an encounter in an Irish pub a couple of weeks ago when someone I have known for over a decade referred to those opposed to the ‘Lightworker’ as teabaggers. If my wife had not become a peacemaker and separated us, his proctologist would have been figuring out how to remove a bodhran.

I’ll bet you or anybody else here any amount of money that Palin won’t be president in 2013. Put it in escrow. Any takers?
Re: the title of this piece & #2 Brian. Is it just me, or are you people erroneously using the noun misogynist for the adjective misogynistic? “Imus gets misogynist” is like saying “Imus gets woman hater.” Is anyone else besides little ‘ol persnickety me annoyed by this?
Have you people ever heard of a dictionary? You know, one of those antiquated things with hard covers & paper pages in between, and words written on the pages, which includes definitions, spellings & pronounciations of the words?
Sarah Palin is great, and the more the left attacks her, the more I like her, and I already like her a lot. She inspires and excites, plus she attracts bigger crowds than John McCain (who?) ever did. Not to mention she practically single-handedly brought down the corrupt good ‘ol boy system in AK. Sarah Palin earned every vote she got when she ran for City Council, Mayor & Governor. She didn’t connect up with or marry power, she earned it herself. It drives the left crazy that she was Governor, is married to a man’s man, and on top of all that, takes care of 4 (5? 6?) kids in her spare time. I hope she becomes President. With Sarah in the Oval Office, you can bet we’d be drilling for oil here and not have to depend on the whims of maniacal, egocentric sheiks for oil.
Now, (apologies to Dr. Zira) if only she wasn’t so ugly . . . . . GO SARAH!!!
Any takers?
Sarah Palin is hated for the same reason Ayn Rand was hated: she is a woman and hers convictions are not precisely leaning to the left. Period.
#11 Joe:I am sorely tempted to agree with you on everything you wrote, but I can’t.
There’s just one detail with which I take exception: Sarah Palin is NOT a smart woman.
I’ve met truck stop diner waitresses that know more about the world than she does! The only people I have ever met that like her are Christian zealots who will vote for anyone with a crucifix hanging on their neck, and gun nuts who will vote for anyone that smells like cordite!
Sarah Palin is not smart, she’s a terrible public speaker and a walking dartboard for late-night comic jokes. Cripes! She makes Bush look like a MENSA recruiter!
She might be honest and she might have a work ethic that would shame a Marine, but SMART?!
Put down the vodka!
#89 Marcus Aurelius…A stupid person makes judgments without sufficient evidence. Have you ever spent anytime with Sarah? Do you think she became governor of Alaska because she is stupid? I submit that you do not have enough information to conclude she or GWB are stupid or that Obama is extremely smart. I assume they are probably all reasonably smart, I would say, most likely smarter than Marcus Aurelius!
Having spent enough time watching media dullards like Katie Couric and Charlie Gibson play with her as easily as a kitten plays with yarn, and listened to the tree-stump stupid object of your adoration stumble like a drunk in search of a plausible answer, uh, yeah, I think she’s genuinely STUPID!
Guess what, cupcake? I’m not alone!
Sarah….smart???…..coniving…yes!!
Commodus, maybe, Marcus Aurelius, you could never live up to that handle. Gibson is retiring
from the business, still aloof from the realities we face. Patrushev, the Russian national security council head, has answered the entreaties of the Nobel One, with a suggestion of a first strike against the enemy,
talk about ‘rearing your head’ The Taliban and AQ is on a rampage in Pakistan, while the President finishes his waffle, deciding whether
the ‘war of necessity’ demands that level of resources. The Iranians are perilously close to
finishing their bomb.
And yet we are focused on a health care plan that Hippocrates himself would rend hisgarments.
On second thought, Obama is Commodus, the spoiled usurper, the parallel is closer although
unexact with the one who has been humiliated (to a degree) stripped of their title, but continues to fight for the things they believe
in, to cite one example: http://tiny.cc/w8MRe
