Shock and awe does work, unless the ancient laws of human existence have somehow magically been suspended.

Shock and awe has not been used in Pakistan, or many other places in the so called WOT. Pakistan's efforts in that regard have been feckless at best, and even under Musharaf, our pressure to encourage him to fight seriously were constantly flouted and subverted. I accept that America, due to a grave misunderstanding of Islam, brought about largely by liars like Eteraz and other Muslim apologists who refuse to acknowledge the centrality of Islam to everything that's going wrong in the Islamic world, has fought at cross purposes for our own goals to defeat Islamic terrorism. When we simultaneously urged Musharaf to fight the strands of fascism in Pakistan, and then chastised him for cracking down brutally on those fascists in his midst, our strategy was (and will remain) doomed to ultately fail. But it's a grave distortion to blame us for the hideousness of Islam and the nastiness of engenders in the world. To the extent that we are guilty, it's from our continuing ignorance, and our naive willingness to listen to the same army of Muslim deceiver who have led us so catastrophically astray for more than three decades. Eteraz is in that camp.

In short, as long as Islam remains intact, the terror will continue, and our war will never achieve success. But of course you'll never hear that from the agents of Islam...

My criticism against Eteraz and his ilk is that they invest huge amounts of energy misleading Westerners about Islam. They peddle the lie that Islam isn't the problem, and that political solutions, if allowed to proceed, will eventually lead us out of the valley of shadows.

How well has this recipe worked in Egypt? Turkey? Kuwait? Afghanistan? UK? Malaysia? Indonesia? Israel? Gaze? West Bank? Pakistan?

In virtually EVERY venue where Muslims are given access through the democratic political process, they have exploited the opportunity and chosen to install more anti-democratic Islam as a result. How is that good? How could that ever be construed as good, when we're increasingly learning what Islam entails?

Eteraz's clever apologetics and deflections are always done under the guise of enlightening us. The centrality of the tenets of Islam are cleverly and always obscured in his narrative, as he repeats above.

Back to the point: Shock and awe properly applied against the power centers of fascist Islam most definitely would degrade their capacity to wage Jihad. Imams who preach Jihad should be captured or killed on the battlefield Madrassas and Mosques which preach Jihad should be destroyed. The snakes who fund Islamic Jihad across the globe should be hunted down and neutralized somehow. This would work.

Our worst mistake in this war has been attempting to "win their hearts and minds" while simultaneously allowing all of the mechanisms of Islamic Jihad to remain intact.

Shock and awe worked nicely to permanently destroy Nazi and Japanese supremacism. A commensurately larger shock and awe will be necessary if we ever hope to see the end of the nightmares Islam is unleashing on the world. That's the ugly truth. We have not yet begun to properly wage this war we have not yet named the enemy.

Propagandists like Eteraz are doing their damndeet to make sure that we remain confused about what must be done, remain confused about the nature of Islam. As long as we remain confused, Islam will continue to strengthen, and will ultimately become triumphant. I'm convinced that is his personal Jihad to serve his beloved Islam.

We are the only genuine losers when we listen to this cancerous army of Islamic agents, agents who have utterly infiltrated critical strata in the West whispering their sweet poisons into our willing ears.

This is a pretty good summation and sensible analysis of the situation. Unfortunately, the US will not heed it, if today's NYTimes article is any indication:

"US Military Seeks to Widen Pakistan Raids"
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/20/world/asia/20pstan.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1

I'd like to remind Morton that Pakistanis have more at stake than the US in curbing the attacks. As the article above points out, suicide attacks are increasing in major Pakistani cities where they were unheard of before. Ofcourse, like you said, the current government certainly had a role play in fostering the Taliban government, but let's not pretend the US is completely innocent. Everyone's hands are dirty. The issue is how to move forward in a way that eliminates the extremist threat against both countries. Shock and awe hasn't worked; a more nuanced approach is desperately needed. Lets see what the new government can do.

The analysis above is pure and utter swill. “American interference and our rage” sums up the Taliban loving America hating kuffir exterminating mentality of the new regime in Pakistan. Musharref was bad enough, and nobody liked him -- but at least he was forced to bend to American will after his filthy regime's Frankenstein, the Taliban, nurtured bin Laden. Readers should NEVER forget that Pakistan, along the the UAE and Saudi Arabia were the only three nations to recognize the Taliban, and were only persuaded to drop their friendship with that vile incarnation of Islam when it became clear that America would not be toppled after 9/11.

So now, after "democratic elections", the Muslims of Pakistan have spoken. A newly reinvigorated Islamist power structure coalition has seized Pakistan in that elections. The coalition, formed largely, but not completely, by the parties of Bhutto, the charlatan who did the most to create and nurture the Taliban and develop Pakistan's nuclear bomb, and the notorious Nawaz, who not only detonated Pakistan's first "Islamic Bomb", but whose "politics" are so fascist that he was banished to the viper's den of Saudi Arabia when Musharaf toppled his government -- these evil vipers have come to power, and these vile Islamic snakes have decided, not to fight terrorism, but to woo and make friends with the terrorists.

Of course this guarantees that Pakistan will be exponentially more poisonous and exponentially more dangerous in a few short years than it was under Musharaf. Remember that, a couple years from now, and remember the name of Ali Eteraz who thought it all was peachy keen.

It's long past the time when such preposterous terror apologizing swill as that delivered above by Eteraz should be kicked to the gutter where it belongs. It's pure trash designed either to obfuscate, in which case it's extremely sinister, or it represents the most staggering and gullible stupidity and should not be taken seriously.

I don't know where to begin...
first omegapaladin... so america goes around creating terrorists while pakistan should clean up the mess? I don't see suicide bombings taking place in America, its innocent pakistani civilians and pakistani soldiers dying in the battle against terrorism. I don't think u know what a nuclear attack is...please refer to japan for help on nuclear experiences. America is the only country to have dropped two bombs on another country so why don't you make sure that your nukes are under control first.

As for the article: I have yet to see the shock and awe method work...anywhere. I hope this new method will work...you seem to give alot of credit to musharaf for past failures. I don't think he alone was capable of doing anything without american support which became quite obvious when sec of state ran to pakistan as soon as the new govt came to power. As for Benazir, she helped create these 'terrorists' so this comes as no surprise. of course this also makes me question the new govt...especially nawaz sheriff since he has always been associated with extremists...
we hope and pray for a better future.

Pakistan needs to deliver some help against AQ I don't care how they do it, just help disrupt their organization. Pakistan gets away with a lot of stuff because they are supposedly fighting AQ as well. We tolerate Stalin so we could defeat Hitler - thing is, Stalin actually FOUGHT OUR ENEMY. The more you disupt AQ, the more we like you.

Note to all Pakistanis: Make sure your nukes stay under control. If a nuke goes off in the US, Pakistan and Iran are going to be the prime suspects, and any president would have to retaliate with nuclear force.
