Our Liberally Racist Media
This week, Newsweek’s Robert Samuelson covers the month-old Pew Research Center study which found that “President Barack Obama has enjoyed substantially more positive media coverage than either Bill Clinton or George W. Bush during their first months in the White House.” The study — which examined over 1200 stories by the Washington Post, the New York Times, ABC, CBS, NBC, NewsHour, and Newsweek — found more than 40 percent favorable coverage for Obama, compared to Bush’s 22 percent and Clinton’s 27.
More significant than the percentage gap itself is the conclusion Samuelson reaches:
But the deeper explanation may be as straightforward as this: most journalists like Obama; they admire his command of language; he’s a relief after Bush; they agree with his agenda (so it never occurs to them to question basic premises); and they don’t want to see the first African-American president fail (emphasis added).
If Samuelson is correct, then the mainstream media is racist. And like most liberal racists, they don’t even know it.
In the late 1990s, author Jim Sleeper wrote a book titled Liberal Racism, which presented the ways in which the effort of many Caucasian liberals to close the historical racial divide and eliminate related inequities has gone horribly wrong. Sleeper writes:
It was Congressman Major Owens, a black representative from New York City, who in 1981 first told me and other members of a small audience of liberal activists and journalists that “liberals are sometimes the worst racists.”
There are many African-Americans — including this writer — who would instantly agree with the former congressman. White liberals might be surprised at how frequently his observation is a topic of conversation among the “victims” that liberals wish to lift out of oppression.
Mr. Sleeper continues:
Only gradually did I realize that liberal racism has several dimensions. Sometimes, prompted by misdirected and self-congratulatory compassion, liberal racism patronizes nonwhites by expecting (and getting) less of them than they are fully capable of achieving. … Liberal racism ends up perpetuating double standards by setting the bar so much lower for its intended beneficiaries that it denies them the satisfactions of equal accomplishment and opportunity.
No kidding! You think?

It most certainly was not me. I saw almost immediately that Barack Obama was a race hustler taking advantage of white guilt. He was obviously a shallow and poorly read man who would not be taken seriously if here were not “a man of color.” Obama also successfully manipulated fairly conservative individuals like John McCain, Charles Murray and Jeffrey Hart. He will set back race relations in the United States at least twenty years.
Obama is not really a victim of racism. He was born in 1961—and not 1951! This makes a huge difference. Most of the legitimate goals of the civil rights movement were already achieved by the time he entered his teen years. Moreover, Obama was a solidly middle class yuppie during this time period and lived in Hawaii, not Mississippi. He had it made. It is bizarre that so many people consider Obama to a be a heroic figure who has overcame numerous obstacles. The exact opposite is actually the truth of the matter.
A few days ago a leftist fellow I know told me “all conservatives hate their children” I told him I was shocked that he could say something so bigoted. He said it wasn’t bigoted because he didn’t say it about any particular race. … That is the rationalization mentality of the left.

Then it is about slamming the United States of America.

The thought occurs to me that perhaps liberals wish to allow BHO to proceed (under the auspices of affirmative action at the highest possible level), to firmly place race as a determining factor. As liberals are so often racist in the extreme, pandering to the very ‘leaders’ that perpetuate racial stereotyping and oppression (i.e. Sharpton), perhaps their real goal is to eliminate the possibility of the advance of real accomplished minority participants (i.e. Clarence Thomas).
I think they are less racist than they want to make sure Obama succeeds and thus will never point out any mistake or flaw if they can obfuscate it.
I know many smart people who are taken by every word Obama says. They won’t buy criticism and in the end of the day the liberal elite media is in business to make money.

I have never seen anyone, journalist or not, with a worse white guilt that this sorry liberal. Yes it is true that those who keep giving Obama and especially easy ride are the racists. Ironic, actually. They think it is Obama’s critics who are racist, but we’re the ones who are judging him regardless of his race.
I have always been offended by the reverse racism of many liberal/progressive Dems that I know, many of them unfortunately fellow Jews.
I often wonder why they believe that it is in a black person’s best interest to pander to their ideas of liberal progressive politics. Further, why is it not considered demeaning to treat them as too stupid to know what is good for them? Why do they feel it is right to dumb down expectations of their performances, instead of asking them to reach higher and higher?
It seems to me that if one has respect for another human being then they would encourage that person to utilize their God given talents just as much as they would push their own loved ones to succeed. That they would want equal protection for ALL, not special treatment for some – perhaps for those deemed not too bright to begin with.
In other words, even after the US has elected a black President, had 2 black secretaries of state, CEO’s of major corps who are black, professors who are black, business owners and entertainers making more than most whites will in several lifetimes, what is the payoff in still treating them as less than accomplished? As a so called protected minority the Dems surely expect payback at the polls.
Perhaps, just perhaps they really do see blacks as inferior, and by calling themselves liberal and progressive they mask their true identities – as reverse racists.
It is not racism that makes Obama’s media coverage so positive. The combination of broad electoral support and a very disciplined WH have combined to reduce negative coverage.
There is plenty of criticism of Obama available – his positive press results from his positive attitude and policies. Why blame race? There is no empirical reason – just the opinion of critics, unsupported by evidence.
Cap and trade and health reform are needed programs – most Americans understand this, which is why these policies are not under heavy scrutiny. The lack of an alternative plan from the GOP is a contributing factor as well.
Keep working that race angle – so much easier than governing or developing policy. The GOP appears to have found a calling in racist rhetoric.

For the Left, Obama was a God-send from central casting. Part Muslim, with the whole Muslim Name thing, the son of a Communist globe-totter and then schooled in Black Christianity as an adult after being raised by rock-ribbed White Christians. The real question is “Who was the casting director?” And at what age was he when they found him, certainly before they helped him write and promote his two autobiographies. I am waiting to read the real story.
A red flag goes up whenever a legitimate question is given, but the answer is usually the race card from the liberal journalist or the liberal answering the quesiton; it is a cheap cop-out. I think the race card has been so abused over the last 30 years thanks to Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Push, the ACLU, & Al Sharpton that a legitimate race abuse is diluted or completely ignored by the MSM. Or it is wrongly exploited by the MSM.

Not only was Obama born in an integrated environment after the legal victories of the Civil Rights movement had taken place, he then intentially moved to one of the most racially divided cities in the nation to start his career. There he sunk his roots in a neighborhood nototious for white guilt of precisely the type the author discusses as he tried to burnish his black indentity through association with Jerimiah Wright.
When Obama ran for Congress in 2000 against Bobby Rush, black voters rejected him so soundly that when the state legislature redistricted after the 2000 census, they redrew Obama’s district to give him fewer blacks and a lot more white liberals. His colleagues in the State Senate knew him for what he is, a hustler of multi-cultural pap to the kind of white voters who tend to have more money than brains.

Let’s all remember that the Democratic Party was the party of slavery before the civil war and the party that made up the KKK after it. They were the ones who came up with concepts like “separate but equal,” segregation, and Jim Crow laws. Are we to believe that they all of the sudden had a change of heart in the sixties? I believe they found an easier way to enslave people: make them dependent on the government. We should also note that Jesse Jackson got nowhere in his presidential bids. So, the son of slaves gets nothing, but the half-white son of Africans who sold their bretheren into slavery becomes President? Fascinating.

It’s a lot easier to sell the public on an untried product, when a majority is unsatisfied with the other offerings, as was the case during last year’s election. Obama could be painted as all things to everybody because of his lack of a track record (and to be fair, those on the far left, inside and outside the media, are POed that Barack hasn’t pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan, implemented gays in the military, closed Gitmo and put Bush and Cheney on trial for war crimes like they were expecting).
The problem is going to be if Obama’s domestic policies fail, the media is going to be forced into a “Who are you going to believe, me or your lyin’ eyes?” strategy. That’s a lot harder to pull off, since it assumes that if the big media outlets don’t report the bad economic news or tries to put a happy face on it (last week’s “funemployment” story from the L.A. Times), the public won’t be able to see what’s going on around them. It’s the difference between the people who were promoting New Coke before it was released to the public, and the ones trying to sell it after the public tried it.
I guess I am older, I remember what Party had Governors standing in the doorway of schools with baseball bats to keep Black children out. They learned from their mistakes and Conservatives didn’t step up to the plate in time. Look at every program the Democrat Party has push through, Affirmative Action tells the Black Americans that they do think they can compete in the White World so we are going to make them give you a raise or promotion even if we know you are not qualified. The ensured the Black family would never hold together by paying more welfare if the Father was not in the home, so know most Black children grow up with no positive male influence. The high crime rate in the Black community is blamed on the White man because we “keep the Black man down” If that is true how do you explain the number of Black successful Politicians in the Republican Party? If that is true why do we have so many Black General officers in the Military? If this is true why do we have the first mixed race President of These United States? He won by a large margin so there had to be a large number of Whites who voted for him.
I am sorry this is so long, but this is a complicated issue that can’t be addressed in a sentence or two. That is the problem, when a person does mention the REAL issue they are branded a racist. I will be attacked for this but it isn’t the first time.

The incredibly overt racism of the left is a symptom of their basic hatred of mankind. The minimizing of the individual and maximizing of the group. The lowering of expectations in order to subvert accomplishment and personal fulfillment.
I think this reverse racism is what Michelle may well have felt at college, and Sotomayor as well.
They are patronized and as their written work shows, with good reason.
And so they are not given valid criticism when criticism is due, they are not treated as individuals but rather as representatives of their race. Thus every one of their accomplishments is tainted with the knowledge that they really haven’t earned a genuine victory.

Here is a comment made by Judge Sonia Sotomeyor to the attorney for the firefighters in New Haven, during the oral argument in the case. It was reported today in the New York Times.:
“You can’t have a racially neutral policy that adversely affects minorities unless there is a business necessity.”
Here is the operatived paragraph of the 14th amendment to the United States Constitution:
“Amendment XIV
Section 1. All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws.
. . . .”
That’s ALL persons — not some. Equal protection may not be denied to “any person,” not just some.

In response to Judge Rosemary Pooler’s assertion that “no one was hurt” in the New Haven case, Torre said: “No one was hurt? For heaven’s sakes, judge, if they didn’t refuse to fill the vacancies, these men would be lieutenants and captains. How can you say they weren’t hurt? They’re out $1,000 apiece [for test preparation]…. They spent three months of their lives holed up in a room, like I was and you were when we took the bar exam.”
Torre went on to emphasize why the test was a valid basis for making promotions — and what can happen when promotions go to people who have not done their homework:
“These men [are not] garbage collectors. This is a command position of a first-responder agency. The books you see piled on my desk are fire-science books. These men face life-threatening circumstances every time they go out…. They are tested for their knowledge of fire, behavior, combustion principles, building collapse, truss roofs, building construction, confined-space rescue, dirty-bomb response, anthrax, metallurgy…. The court [should] not treat these men in this profession as if it were unskilled labor. We don’t do this to lawyers or doctors or nurses or captains or even real estate brokers. But somehow, they treat firefighters as if it doesn’t require any knowledge to do the job….
“Firefighters die every week in this country…. A young father and firefighter, Eddie Ramos, died after a truss roof collapsed in a warehouse fire because the person who commanded the scene decided to send men into an unoccupied house… with a truss roof known to collapse early in [a] fire because of the nature of the pins that hold the trusses together…. And the fire chief had to go tell a 6-year-old that her father wasn’t coming home.”
Judge Sotomayor responded by observing that there must be “a fair test that could be devised that measures knowledge in a more substantive way.”
Translation: New Haven needs a test that won’t give such an advantage to the firefighters who have learned the most about fighting fires.

The sentiment in the quotes is a lie, one that you hear constantly from conservatives who are too cowardly to tell the truth, or who deep down inside agree with the racist demonization of whites from the left. Modern conservatism is a complete failure and always will be because it refuses to confront liberalism as the white-hating racist movement that it is. Poles in 1942 who were under the delusion that their problem with the Nazis were only about taxes or trade policy would not likely be very successful at countering the reality of Nazism.

Yeah, I really need to pay twice as much for my energy bill, twice as much for gasoline, and more for all the food, clothing, and other necessities that use carbon-based energy for their production and transportation. Also, I really need the government to tell me which doctors I can see while they drive others out of the profession because the cost of practicing will exceed allowed rates. And if my doctor does tell me a need an expensive procedure, but the government doesn’t agree – well, like you said, what I really need is health care REFORM, not health care.

LOL People who don’t subscribe to “ends justify the means” are often confused by liberals behavior. It often is completely at odds with their professed beliefs. They don’t care, if they achieve victory in their goals.
Can I ask one odd question that came to light about religion and race? I had two days of no internet, and found myself browsing stored images with coffee instead of the internet (omgzers). It occured to me, is it true, the only religious icon to be displayed on a planet other than the Earth is the Jewish Star of David on Mars? I was not aware of the Catholic Cross, the Protestant Cross, the Muslim hand grenade (or whatever they use) or the Buddha being offworld…? But there IS a Star of David on the Israeli flag on a Mars lander. It’s like they crossed more than one barrier with the sacrafice of their astronaut.
What about the journalists who went easy on Bush? Could it be said that they were prejudiced against the educationally subnormal?

The northern Dems had a change of heart once enough black people had moved from the rural south to the northern cities to form a powerful voting block. At that point, they stopped seeing blacks as inferiors to be vilified and exploited, and started seeing them as potential voters to be courted (with free handouts stolen from the rest of the taxpayers and preferential treatment under the law, per the usual Democrat approach).
Didn’t happen all of a sudden though. Took a few decades.

Look on further as to why Obama’s personal favorables can poll so high even when the same poll shows mid to low numbers for his individual policies, even with Obama voters. They’ll be on record saying an individual policy sucks, but not that the source of that policy does.

(I know I know you’ll say this is all GWB’s fault – harharhar – when will your guy decide to DO something about it – oh that’s right, he did and it’s having the reverse effect. His grandparents weren’t christian – they were marxists. Supposedly they attended Overlake Unitarian Church (If you know anything about their theology, it is *very* liberal – and agnostic) when they lived on Mercer Island in the late 60′s. There were VERY radical elements in that congregation – I know becasue those same radical elements left and formed their own congregation which my parents attended beginning about 1970. some of the original founders of that “new” congregation, that had come from OUC, made the hair on the back of my neck stand up *everytime* I was anywhere near them. They made the unitarian congregation they’d left seem downright conservative in comparision. (We visited there too, and the difference was huge.)

I used to be a far leftist so I can confirm that this politically correct form of racism is indeed a very real thing. They think brown people are too stupid to make the right decisions or to act civilized. And they also have a strong hatred of their own ethnicity aka white guilt. You are wrong in several counts. When I picked Obama as a viable candidate, I didn’t see any color, it was his vision and fitness to be a good President. I didn’t care if McCain was white or black, he just was unfit. When i managed people, my decisions were color blind, but I also understood the cultural differences between whites, blacks, latinos, asians et al.
If Obama is wrong, there is a margin of error. 10% probably wouldn’t matter to me, 25-50% is questionable, more than 50% would be a real mistake. But the “wrongness” can be measured in time too, like the outcome of the bailouts, Guantanamo, GM, health care, etc. You have to wait until the fat lady sings.

I never saw it as lying. It’s a management process. First, he had to win an election. Once there, the military and diplomatic envoys presented a more complex situation. If you were President, telling everything might destroy your strategies. Not that I approve of this, it’s just a reality.

Getting closer. The Soros’ and other movers and shakers were dissatisfied with Hillary, for a variety of reasons. They made a requisition. And out of central casting comes this teleprompter savant. He had all of the right attributes, but couldn’t think or speak on his feet to save his hide. But he was so perfect otherwise, they went for it.
Their big mistake was not making sure that there were always three backup teleprompters at all times. The secret got out. But they still pulled it off.

The glorification of racial permanence has caused the left to abandon
narrow rationales for affirmative action in favor of the doctrine
of multiculturalism. The diversity argument—which, by the way, is
only used to defend favored groups; Asians and Jews almost never
count toward the goal of diversity—is an argument for the permanence
of race and identity. In other words, if the left has its way,
racial preferences will no longer have anything to do with redressing
past wrongs (except when such preferences are under attack).
Rather, the pursuit of diversity will become the permanent license
for social-engineering bean counters to discriminate against whatever
group they see fit in order to reach the desired “balance.” For example,
quotas unfairly kept Jews out of universities to help white
Protestants. Now quotas unfairly keep Jews (and Asians) out of universities
to help blacks and Hispanics. What’s different is that now
liberals are sure such policies are a sign of racial progress.
Diversity depends on, and therefore ratifies, racial essentialism.
Not only do rich (and, increasingly, foreign-born) blacks count as
much as poor ones, but the argument now is that mere exposure to
blacks is uplifting in and of itself. The policy is condescending and

and live with other blacks. This self-segregation increasingly manifests
itself in campus politics. Blacks become a student body within
a student body, a microcosm of the nation within a nation. Ironically,
the best way for a white kid to benefit from exposure to a black kid,
and vice versa, would be for there to be fewer black students or at
least no black dorms. That way blacks would be forced to integrate
with the majority culture. But of course, integration is now derided
as a racist doctrine.
You might say it’s outrageous to compare the current liberal program
to help minorities with the poisonous ideology of fascism and
Nazism. And I would agree if we were talking about things like the
Holocaust or even Kristallnacht. But at the philosophical level, we
are talking about categorical ways of thinking. To forgive something
by saying “it’s a black thing” is philosophically no different from
saying “it’s an Aryan thing.” The moral context matters a great deal.
But the excuse is identical. Similarly, rejecting the Enlightenment
for “good” reasons is still a rejection of the Enlightenment. And
any instrumental or pragmatic gains you get from rejecting the
Enlightenment still amount to taking a sledgehammer to the soapbox
you’re standing on. Without the standards of the Enlightenment, we
are in a Nietzschean world where power decides important questions
rather than reason. This is exactly how the left appears to want it.
One last point about diversity. Because liberals have what Thomas
Sowell calls an “unconstrained vision,” they assume everyone sees
things through the same categorical prism. So once again, as with the
left’s invention of social Darwinism, liberals assume their ideological
opposites take the “bad” view to their good. If liberals assume
blacks—or women, or gays—are inherently good, conservatives
must think these same groups are inherently bad.
This is not to say that there are no racist conservatives. But at the
philosophical level, liberalism is battling a straw man. This is why
liberals must constantly assert that conservatives use code words—
because there’s nothing obviously racist about conservatism per se.
Indeed, the constant manipulation of the language to keep conservatives—
and other non-liberals—on the defensive is a necessary tactic
for liberal politics. The Washington, D.C., bureaucrat who was fired
for using the word “niggardly” correctly in a sentence is a case in
point.64 The ground must be constantly shifted to maintain a climate
of grievance. Fascists famously ruled by terror. Political correctness
isn’t literally terroristic, but it does govern through fear. No serious
person can deny that the grievance politics of the American left
keeps decent people in a constant state of fright—they are afraid to
say the wrong word, utter the wrong thought, offend the wrong constituency.
If we maintain our understanding of political conservatism as
the heir of classical liberal individualism, it is almost impossible
for a fair-minded person to call it racist. And yet, according to liberals,
race neutrality is itself racist. It harkens back to the “social
Darwinism” of the past, we are told, because it relegates minorities
to a savage struggle for the survival of the fittest.
There are only three basic positions. There is the racism of the
left, which seeks to use the state to help favored minorities that it regards
as morally superior. There is racial neutrality, which is, or has
become, the conservative position. And then there is some form of
“classical racism”—that is, seeing blacks as inferior in some way.
According to the left, only one of these positions isn’t racist. Race
neutrality is racist. Racism is racist. So what’s left? Nothing except
liberalism. In other words, agree with liberals and you’re not racist.
Of course, if you adopt color blindness as a policy, many fair-minded
liberals will tell you that while you’re not personally racist, your
views “perpetuate” racism. And some liberals will stand by the fascist
motto: if you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.
Either way, there are no safe harbors from liberal ideology.
Hence, when it comes to race, liberalism has become a kind of soft
totalitarianism and multiculturalism the mechanism for a liberal
Gleichschaltung. If you fall outside the liberal consensus, you are
either evil or an abettor of evil. This is the logic of the Volksgemeinschaft
in politically correct jargon.
Now, of course you’re not going to get a visit from the Gestapo if
you see the world differently; if you don’t think the good kind of diversity
is skin deep or that the only legitimate community is the one
where “we’re all in it together,” you won’t be dragged off to reeducation
camp. But you very well may be sent off to counseling or sensitivity
training.

Perhaps your choice of news outlet was focused on certain aspects of the campaign that were less important to others. Racism was a problem in the election, but Obama was popular enough to overcome that handicap. Most estimates put the impact of racism at less than 15% of voters.
