One Nation Under Obama

The president is co-opting whatever he needs to remake this country. Why not religion too?

Ultimately, this allows him to dismiss Christianity’s ethical claims on the life of the believer altogether. This was clear when he spoke about the tensions between his pro-abortion stance and Christianity at the Call to Renewal Conference in 2006: “Democracy demands that … religiously motivated [individuals] translate their concerns into universal rather than religion-specific values.”

This is also how Obama sidestepped the implications of his support for abortion when giving Notre Dame’s commencement address. He made it sound like the pro-abortion and anti-abortion positions are just two viable positions that Christians can hold. While he admitted that these two positions flow from “views … [which] are complex and even contradictory … [and] irreconcilable,” he wisely avoided the use of smaller but more important words such as “right” and “wrong,” and asked that members of the “irreconcilable” factions “honor the consciences” of those with whom they disagree on the abortion issue. Never mind that this tactic allowed him to continue down the path of supporting abortion without having to explain why he supports it or to justify his use of taxpayer dollars to fund the practice.

But how dare we expect the great and powerful Obama to explain himself, as if he too were a mere serf or subject, or even a run-of-the-mill politician from days gone by?

When it comes to economics, Obama’s mode of operation is similar to that which he uses when talking to religious universities and Christian congregations. Therefore, although he’s only been in office since January 20, 2009, he’s been able to move at a speed that disorients those he can’t convert and has succeeded in the quasi-nationalization of many banks, financial institutions, and the American auto industry. He’s openly setting his sights on our health care system now, which means the Latin American communist leaders who asked Obama to join their war against capitalism should feel encouraged that things are going their way here in the United States.

Of course, Obama always says government bailouts (takeovers) are just temporary and that he only resorts to them as a last-ditch effort to save the economy. But the fact that he has that cheese-eating grin on his face every time he announces more government involvement seems dubious.

In fact, in a style which only a two-bit revolutionary could love, the always-grinning Obama acts then explains or at best acts while explaining, so that by the time his explanation comes through it’s too late to do much more than go along with him. This is the epitome of what the late Harvard Professor Crane Brinton communicated in his book The Anatomy of Revolution, when he wrote of how extremists like Vladimir Lenin and Josef Stalin (and Obama) cannot wait until people share their views before acting, but must act and trust that the people will eventually see why the action was necessary to further the revolution.

The bottom line is this: Forget the “one nation under God” stuff and understand that for the foreseeable future we are to consider ourselves “one nation under Obama.” The quicker we figure this out, the easier the adjustment is going to be for us all.

Hmmmm. Now I think I know why he will not produce his birth certificate.

His real name is Nehemiah Scudder Obama.

He expects to be known as The First Prophet Obama.

Old Man Heinlein warned us of his type. An American dictator will NOT be a military man on horseback. If we ever do get such a devilspawn
it will be some mesmerizing preacherman.

We are getting a little too close for comfort.

  2. 2. ked5

I’ve heard what he thinks about Jesus Christ. He is *NOT* a Christian. (if everything he actually does (as opposed to says) has left anyone with doubt.)

  3. 3. njcommuter

People with traditional principles are primed to recognize this kind of con man. Leftists and those with incohate principles are not.

  4. 4. David Thomson

“Leftists and those with incohate principles are not.”

One either assents their mind and will to the very concept of eternal principles—or ultimately they will be seduced into nihilism. Human beings are inherently religious. They will either opt for traditional ways to express these needs, or they will choose some sort of “anti-christ.” Barack Obama is taking full advantage of our increasingly secularist culture.

  5. 5. Well Educated Cad

I thought that the media already proclaimed him as the Messiah?

Obama’s days are numbered by how long it takes to crack the spoiled rotten idiots that put him into office.

Already there are signs of hope. Everywhere you go people are helplessly watching their hopes, dreams, lives and future being crushed, pulverized and smashed.

They don’t yet understand why, but they see that the chaos, damage and wreckage extends around the world into every country and nation, large or small.

Such is the influence and power of an American President. Especially one that fancies himself to be as important and untouchable as Obama does.

Today (except for the MSM) the in-your-face loud mouth liberal voices that spit into your face little more than 3 months ago are largely silent.

Instead of demanding that we pray for our President, they’re busy asking God to save what’s left of their sorry asses from him.

And last, in a way the saddest and the worst part of the story of Mr. Obama is the carnage and destruction that he alone has inflicted on the truly gentle and God fearing majority of his own race that trusted him with their entire heritage.

  7. 7. vivo

“Barack Obama . . . wants to rule rather than represent and to dictate rather than debate”

And what did Bush and Cheney did? Just that. Always hiding and making stupid decisions.

“The bottom line is this: Forget the “one nation under God” stuff and understand that for the foreseeable future we are to consider ourselves “one nation under Obama.””

We are not “one nation under God”, we are “one nation under many gods”. That’s why religion should be separated from government. They are two different animals.

But the statement “one nation under Obama” is already true: he’s the President. But making it look religious is plain asinine.

  8. 8. ts

damn, hawkins, this is some whiny stuff.

Thank you for bringing this article to our attention.

    Oh My Goodness!

Just sharing his message with us on this board have healed my hemorrhoids.

Now if we can just get him to say something from the heart.

  10. 10. D-wah

Nice job AWR. Now we’re getting down to what’s really going on.

You’re right on. He’s put the country under his spell of constant cognitive dissonance. (Cognitive dissonance–”the feeling of uncomfortable tension which comes from holding two conflicting thoughts in the mind at the same time.”)

    Good points:
    >O “has been wise enough to war against those values in the name of those values, thus disorienting those whom he can’t intellectually disarm.”

    >”But how dare we expect the great and powerful Obama to explain himself, as if he too were a mere serf or subject, or even a run-of-the-mill politician from days gone by?”

    >”..he’s been able to move at a speed that disorients those he can’t convert.”

All classic Marxism. Their goal is to change our perception of reality so we can’t come to sensible conclusions in order to defend ourselves and our families. Insidious stuff.

The only principle the Marxist subversive technique holds is that we mustn’t discriminate. About anything. It’s like an acid of valuelessness that corrodes everything. The wicked left, media and PC movement set us up for it and now they’re cashing in.

    BTW, when you said,
“Of course, Obama always says government bailouts (takeovers) are just temporary and that he only resorts to them as a last-ditch effort to save the economy. But the fact that he has that cheese-eating grin on his face every time he announces more government involvement seems dubious.”

You forgot to mention that when they offer to pay the money back they won’t take it. But so true about the grin–it’s evil. Not to mention the giggles.

And still no public uproar. THAT’S what’s freaky. A very strange mode of still observation.

The public is numbed like an insect bitten by the spider and now all they have to do is keep spinning their web till we can’t move at all. Then it’s dinner time.

…but not all Americans will “go quietly in the night”….

  11. 11. MiamaMan

I hope I am wrong. Since Obama came to the forefront, I have always believed he uses religion as he used Reverend Wright, et al. I see no conviction when he utters: God bless America, and other similar phrases.

I would not want to be in the skin of those who voted for him, and now, understanding their mistake, experience a hangover. A few are honest about it, many do not want to raise the issue.

As for me, I would have voted for Humpty Dumpty if necessary, but never for this fraud.

  12. 12. TennesseeVolunteer

I am getting real tired of writers who I respect acting like “we better get used to it” or “nothing can be done” about these assaults on our freedoms.
There is plenty we can do and weak sisters like this writer need to grow a pair.
I will never submit, never just go along.
I have always wondered what the Baby Boomers generation would be asked to do. No great war, no Great Depression. Well, ladies and gentlemen this is it, it is our job to educate our countrymen to this assault on their rights, to point out the difference between right and wrong (abortion is a great place to start) and to make the writings of our Founders our new Oprah instead of listening to the MSM.
The fights not over, hell…it’s just begun. what are you afraid of?

  13. 13. noreen

Who is he kidding. He is most certainly a Muslim. He just could not say so and get elected

    I don’t want Obama and/or the government:

    Controlling my health care.
Telling me what size and kind vehicle to drive.
What low carbon-producing foods to eat.
Adding a national tax to my already-high tax bills.
Assuring me a Latina woman with a experienced background is best for blind justice decisions.

I want a democracy where I control my own health care, drive a vehicle I want, eat what I want, pay reasonable taxes and know the Supreme Court cares about the rich, as well as the poor, hence the oath the justice takes.

Obama is ruining this country, not improving it. He’s silenced the Clintons, naming every minority he can to positions and dictating corporate behavior/dealership closures without letting the economy do it naturally. He’s got his hand into too many pies and those pies will soon rot.

I’m a 60-year-old woman who has worked for a good income. My three white sons are now discriminated against more than anyone else in this country. For the first time in my life, I’m ashamed of my country and fear for any freedom we’ve had. Kathy in Yorktown, Virginia.

Obama needs to bone up on the life and times of Mussolini. Maybe he can avoid the same fate, …..but I doubt it.

“One nation under Obama with acorns and card checks and reeducation for all”

    Welcome to Obamatopia.

  19. Is not “Democracy demands that … religiously motivated [individuals] translate their concerns into universal rather than religion-specific values”, the long translation of, “Go ahead Eve, eat it”?

  20. 20. Fragmentarian

Obama is correct. People can hold any position or have any opinions they want, some of them totally un-Christian and still claim to be Christian. They can also be Marxists and claim to love liberty. Every guilty man in prison claims innocence. Claims are for the easily duped.

  21. 21. Meryl

“The bottom line is this: Forget the ‘one nation under God’ stuff and understand that for the foreseeable future we are to consider ourselves ‘one nation under Obama.’ The quicker we figure this out, the easier the adjustment is going to be for us all.”

DH and I have absolutely no intention of adjusting:)

“The president is co-opting whatever he needs to remake this country. Why not religion too?”

He’s working his way down the list! Be patient! Just hasn’t gotten there yet.

Expect to see details emerging regarding favorable and unfavorable lists within the larger list of “religions”. Islam will be fine. Wicca will be fine. Even liberal Protestantism (within which Wicca and Islam are considered fine) will be fine.

What will NOT be fine will be Biblical Christianity which adheres to John 14:6 in which Jesus Christ said, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but by me.”

So the rule of thumb will be this: if there is NOT room in your religion for including him as one more god (at the top), then there will be no room for your religion (in this “one nation under God”).

    We live in interesting times.

Remember when Alberto Gonzales fired a few lawyers in the justice department and the press and the democrats forced him to resign eventually?

Remember when Trent Lott complimented Strom Thurmond at one of old Strom Thurmond’s last birthday parties and the Press and Democrats twisted the remarks to be racial and forced Trent to give up his leadership of the Senate?
Remember when the press and the Democrats were outraged that Bush was wiretapping Terrorist conversations – where BOTH ENDS of the conversation were overseas and only the communication line between the two passed through the U.S.???

And we’ve gone from that – TO REAL ABUSES OF POWER. Government in the Auto business – rewarding it’s political allies. Government in the Financial business – rewarding it’s political allies. A Nation Bankrupt – the fruits of our progeny spent before they are even born. A White House that threatens to use the press to DESTROY it’s enemies. A White House with an “enemies list” – that attacks private citizens for their political views.

What’s just amazing to me is the way the press has helped to facilitate this – and excuse this – and they aren’t even on the government payroll like pravda is.

We are sunk folks. Sunk – unless someone stands up before it’s too late.

Not likely – since now the GOP elites are turning on the Conservatives who are willing to fight – like Limbaugh, Tancredo – and others.

They turned their back on Sarah Palin long ago.

    Depressing.

  23. 23. BackwardsBoy

Don’t be fooled for one second. Obama may say he’s a Christian, but his actions against our country say something very different.
This guy is a clear and present danger to our country and our way of life.

mejor pedir perdon, que permiso. better to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission. oops my bad. co opting is his forte and so is handing over the bag for someone else to hold. i wondered what he meant when he spoke of the lipstick on a pig. whats the difference between ham and eggs? the chicken is involved and the pig is committed. we are out of money and we need to spend more, democracy demands you give up your voice, infanticide is a moral choice, this is what i’m hearing coming from the big O. these are sweet words spilling out, but they just don’t pass the smell test.

    Well said, njcommuter.

“Obama the most merciful,” as Rush likes to say. Good article AWR. He has no problem co-opting religion. Whatever it takes to be sure we look to him as much as he looks to himself.

All DohBama needs is the sleazy sharkskin suit to complete his livin’ large and in charge look. I still don’t understand why people have been bowled over with the supposed ‘charisma’ of DohBama. I’ve always been completely skeeved out by this one way ticket charlatan.

What brought us the big DOH?

As Pharaoh used to say – “So let it be written, so let it be done.” Substitute the word Pharaoh with Obama (or “Dear leader”, your choice) and you have it all here. The irony of all this is that all of this was visible before the election. All it required was an intelligent electorate who could read and understand the issues, and take appropriate action. Alas, that was a miserable failure. There is plenty of blame to spread around in all directions so no one person or group has to take it all, but the primary failure was the failure of the American public to set aside their daily pablum they receive from the big three television networks, or their local newspapers, and exercise their gray matter to think and ask, who is this guy, what does he represent, and is his style of government good for the country. This is another wake up call in a long line of wake up calls that have already been written since the election. Remember – all it takes for failure is for enough good men to do nothing !!!

  33. 33. HLH

Great piece. It annoys me to no end that he takes anti-Christian positions while talking about his “faith” – what is his faith if not self-worship?

  34. 34. Professor Guvinoff

Yes, our hypnotic president has been very diligent in the pursuit of his utopian convictions, but let’s not forget he has been equally swift and effective in provoking an unprecedented wave a protest. On the decibel scale, the tea partiers are no match for the advocates of sublime social justice, but they have reason, patience and integrity, all rooted in solid values. They know a fake when they see one.

  35. 35. Boris

“Barack Obama has long been known for his socialistic convictions and messianic tendencies.”

So much stupidity in the first sentence.

“And while he may not come right out and say it, he expects us to pledge allegiance to him.”

    Miss Cleo, is that you?

“Therefore, it was as easy for him to skip the National Day of Prayer on May 7, 2009″

Just like those atheists Bush, Reagan, and Bush.

“and open the door to the legalized killing of “days-old unborn children”"

Those unborn children who are currently in freezers awaiting disposal? They are clearly children because you freeze and thaw them just like you can a toddler. QED.

But how dare we expect the great and powerful Obama to explain himself, as if he too were a mere serf or subject, or even a run-of-the-mill politician from days gone by?

Unfortunately, the position Barack Obama holds is feeding his megalomania, day in and day out.

Edmund Burke had Obama pegged in the 18th century

  37. 37. Harvard Yard Conservative

The One is a malignant narcissist who is fueled by the adoration of others and his own joy in manipulating others. When we the people, including his true believers, finally stop adoring and we refuse to be further manipulated, we shall see the One exhibit incredible narcissistic rage as the One attempts to throw all of us under the bus. For men and women like the One, once a person’s or a people’s utility and pliability is lost, he or they must either be destroyed or discarded.

  38. 38. sheesh

    Co-opting religion for power . . . co-opting religion for power . . . why hasn’t anybody else thought of this before?

  39. Let’s say that “I am not worried” by all this, because I know that socialism will fail.

What worries me is what this kind of person will do when he will meet real opposition.

Until now he has governed by ukase, without THE NEED to face any opposition.

What happens if the GOP wakes up ?
What happens if some Democrats begin understanding where we are going ?
What happens if the tea parties grow to a real political size ?

Will we all be labeled “enemies of the people” ?
What will be the role of the inner cities ?
What will be the role of the mass of the illegals ?

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

    SATIRE
Notre Dame may have the last laugh. The Catholic University gave President Obama an honorary degree when he gave the commencement address there. It reads Barak Obama,DDB. It is not some kind of doctor of divinity or doctor of denistry degree. It means Doctor of Dead Babies.

    His O-liness.

Obama’s Chicago church was a perfect fit for him, a black supremacy club that lapped up hatred against other races and promoted America’s enemies. He is said to have attended there to gain credibility. No, he was right at home. Christian in name only. He’s Marxist to the core, which not only means atheist, but an avowed enemy to all religion and anyone who might obstruct the emerging dictatorship.

  43. 43. scott

We were warned that false christs and false christians would arise. Well, right now they are everywhere. The fastest growing cult in this country puts ‘Jesus Christ’ right in their overly long name. St. John gave us the test of a true Christian. It is not complex. As well Christ told us we would know men by their fruit, their product. There is no mystery here really.

I regularly run into seeming nice people who will openly tell me how much they despised Sarah Palin. What disguised blackness must lurk in such a heart. And they believe they are justified in making such statements about this very good woman. To look upon such honest goodness and loving openness as exemplified by Sarah and hate it. Surely the separation of the sheep from the goats to come will be a wonder and an awful awakening.

Obama is a symptom. Our land, our nation, is very ill. The cancer has now reached that point where it is rapidly overwhelming the country’s immune system. We are staring death in the face and we must hang unto our faith with all our strength and believe in our personal salvation. It is after all … all there is.

  44. 44. WhyamInotsurprised?

Mr. Hawkins, thanks for a very good summary of the orientation of our Dear Leader. The only point I take exception to is your reference several times to his ability to “disorient.” As #3, says, those paying attention are not fooled. It is safe to say that if you filter everything he says 180 degrees out of phase, then you will be in the neighborhood of understanding what this clown is really up to.

What really saddens me is so many in our country’s leadership who have sold out our country for a liberal orientation that is going to cost us all, and the world, a whole lot of pain before anything gets better.

  45. Great article. It seems history shows that Totalitarians slowly take over every aspect of society which means eventually the Church as well. In only 5 months President Obama is influencing the banks, auto industry and housing market. Once he has control over the economy it is natural that he will go after the only institution that can appeal to an objective truth beyond his Administration. This is even more troubling since the Religious Left are already calling him our Pastor in Chief. God help us.

  55. 55. Karen

Well I see us going towards more communism than Socialism. How many CZARS does he have now? 14 or 15? do people understand what the problem with this is? This is all a power grab. These CZARS do not answer to the people, they are not elected officials, it has expanded Government, and they do not have to answer to Congress. If there is a Scam that is caused, or someone does something illegal, they do NOT HAVE TO ANSWER TO CONGRESS, because they only answer to the White House. This is scarie business. He has a CZAR for Flowers. What is that? now he wants a CyberSecurity CZAR. Personally why do we have Homeland Security. That should all follow under there.

Also too with regard to the Census. Under the Constitution you are to be counted. There has always been a long form, that wasn’t mandatory to fill out. Now it is mandatory to fill out and if you don’t there is a 5,000 dollar fine, plus possible jail time. This form asks how many times you flush to what kind of car you drive and if you were in the military. The military question bothers me because of the National Security Memo she says she retracted, about Military being Right Wing Extrmists Terrorists. If you Falsify an answer it is a 500 dollar fine.

Also too with the Census being in the control of the White House, under Emmanuel, does any one understand that ramifications of this problem? It is to make sure he stays in power when the districts are realigned. Using ACORN to help count, can skew the count towards minorities, like Hispanics, Muslims, and so forth. Which then can cause the districts to be realigned differently. This then would cause another power grab to make sure he stays put. Then if after this Census a Constitutional Convention is called to recall the part of the President being under term limits, to let him serve as often as he wants, then where will we be?

None of this is speculation in my eyes. This is all serious business. This is a Man, who is NOT A CHRISTIAN. A CHRISTIAN, WOULD NOT KILL INNOCENT BABIES AND ADVOCATE SO HIGHLY FOR IT, and WOULD NOT SUPPORT LGBT, and advocate for everything that goes against God and what HE stands for.

People you are witnessing the beginnings of a possible Dictatorship.

The President gives no evidence that he espouses Christian belief other than his “say so.” Rather aetheism or agnosticism appears to be his position. No one claiming to accept Cristian values could have been a regular attendant at the so called “Reverend” Wright’s church. Indeed there is nothing about the conduct of Reverend Wright which demonstrates that he is a Christian. To the contrary his emphasis is on political action, something which Jesus Christ avoided at all cost. When asked by Jewish leaders if it was lawful to pay taxes to Caesar, Christ used a coin with the image of Caesar. He asked those present whose image was on the coin? They responded “Caesar’s”. Christ’s reply: “Then render to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s.”

As a matter of fact, because of people like you leftists and your identity politics, we are now actually “many nations under many gods” who just happen to live in geographical proximity. And we need to include in those many gods and religions the ones you worship too – like Karl Marx, the environment, atheism, feminism, and many more, including Obama himself now.

We are no longer the United States of America, where we all are Americans first. Illegals wave the Mexican flag, Muslims want to marry children and impose Shariah law, Harold Koh wants international law to trump our Constitution, Hollywood claims that they will move overseas if Republicans win (but never follow through unfortunately), “journalists” play “blame America first”, etc. This is madness.

Maybe Obama was actually right when he said we have 57 states, the original 50 plus the other de facto nations that partly overlap the various state boundaries.

There is some really nasty confrontation coming between left and right.

Ways must be devised to achieve towards the goal of having as few as possible of this man’s policies ever seeing the light of day. This means a regular pattern of communicating with one’s particular Senators and Representatives on the subject of just which policies are wrong and why. This means getting into the face of the MSM to as a great a degree as possible (write and/or talk to the talking heads, go to tea parties, etc.) to have your voice heard. It is impossible not to remark his sincerity when he comes with “The Europeans see in me…” type-of assessments… it is impossible not to see this in his accepting otherwise trappings and decorum (remember the Oppossum thing?)…
it is impossible not see this in his propensity to physically surround himself with prestige enhancers like the absurd line of admirals and ministers who lined up behind him listen to his pronouncements…
it is impossible not to see this in his countless, camel-like neighing photos when he reacts to flattery – and obviously, such a narcissistic type wouldn’t be shocked if some dilligent cohorts would decree him a true god.

Once I came upon an older photo of him being enthroned (on a, well, real throne) in a facy garb, wearing crown in that church he used to attend in Chicago – beaming he was and I couldn’t detect on his face any sign of being even slightly embarrassed by that absurdity.

Yee haw they chant in unison…more government, more handouts, more taxes, squash conservative talk radio and on and on the liberals just can’t get enough of Obambi, pushing and jostling each other to get closer to him, drooling slavishly and mesmerized by his greatness. What’s really funny is that after Obambi is done screwing the conservatives and rearranging the country the liberals are next on the hit list. Now that freakin funny. And what’s even funnier is that the liberals don’t get it.

  77. 77. Sonny

For the sake of correct definitions, Socialism is the government seizure of ownership of private businesses., i.e. nationalization.

Facism is government seizure of control of private property, i.e., thoroughgoing bureaucratic regulation of business which retains on a Potemkin-like facade of private ownership.

Fascism is the authoritarian imposition of raw, naked government power – guns and prisons – to control people’s economic lives.

From these definitions, Obama doesn’t have too much left to do to put the full weight of the power of the White House into his fascism plans. He is well on his way.

Once we have determined where he wants to take us, we have to decide if we are willing to go along with him.

Our Founders rallied under the cry of, “Give me liberty or give me death.” The motto served us well once. I believe it will serve us well again. We started giving up control of our lives under Woodrow Wilson and we now see the fulfillment of the Progressive Manifesto unfolding before our very eyes.

My advice is not to be distracted by the intentional “distractions” put out by Washington, D.C. They are meant to keep our eyes away from Obama’s real purpose.

For him, it is about power and control. The distractions are many and will keep coming. Although they are too numerous to list here, just about every event happening today is designed to cause confusion and disharmony in the public square.

Obama did not think up everything he is doing. He was carefully prepared for his presidency and knows what he wants to do. His biggest job is keeping us from doing what we know we should do. So far, he has succeeded in that aspect of his job.

  78. 78. Insufficiently Sensitive

You stated it exactly as I see it. I have some training in Catholic theology, which means I can wrap my mind around concepts and doctrines beyond stale, vapid platitudes. Obama is a heretic who belongs to a heretic church. It takes someone like ME, who used to be a heretic (a Pelagian who used to fawn over Liberation Theology)to know one.

I am very angry with the way he has been manipulating my Church and all the others as well. The president of the University of Notre Dame may have a Master of Divinity degree from the Jesuit school of theology at U. Cal Berkeley, but I know a thing or two about that place (from those who attended)and had I stayed a Jesuit I would have begged my provincial to not have me study theology there. It is clear that Obama is cynically trying to co-opt religion in order to marginalize his critics.

I would be more than happy to debate Obama on theology, and whip his ass into the bargain.

RE #86/88 Chuck Pelto: [...] I’ve been kicked/banned at The Volohk Conspiracy for opposing Sotomayor for joining the Supremes. [...]

Surprised, I used to see Eugene Volokh as a libertarian not a liberal enforcer – anyway, bellow is a consolation piece from Washington Times, via Town Hall, which began a SCOTUS Sotomayor Watch blog:
    —————————-*——————–
“The franchise for felons/Sotomayor would let prisoners vote” Editorial, Friday, May 29, 2009

Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor wants to give jailbirds the right to vote. It’s her opinion that the federal Voting Rights Act can be used to force states to allow voting by currently imprisoned felons. Ms. Sotomayor’s dissenting opinion in a 2006 felon-voting case should make senators extremely wary of confirming her for the high court.

In Hayden v. Pataki, a number of inmates in New York state filed suit claiming that because blacks and Latinos make up a disproportionate share of the prison population, the state’s refusal to allow them ballot access amounts to an unlawful, race-based denial of their right to vote. Eight of 13 judges on the liberal-leaning Second Circuit dismissed their arguments, and the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled likewise in a similar case.

Yet, operating on a dubious and extremely broad reading of the Voting Rights Act, Ms. Sotomayor dissented from the decision. In a remarkably dismissive, four-paragraph opinion, she alleged that the “plain terms” of the Voting Rights Act would allow such race-based claims to go forward.

Judge Jose Cabranes, who like Ms. Sotomayor was appointed by President Bill Clinton, didn’t find the matter to be so clear. His majority decision against the criminal felons, in favor of the state, comprised 36 tightly reasoned pages. Particularly compelling is the fact that the Voting Rights Act was passed to help further the aims of the Constitution’s 14th and 15th Amendments. The 14th Amendment specifically allows states to deny the vote to those convicted of crimes.

Ms. Sotomayor is thus in the position of asserting that Congress can prohibit New York from doing something the Constitution itself specifically endorses. It’s as if she thinks black and Hispanic felons are convicted in order to deny them the vote, rather than that they are denied the vote as a result of being duly convicted. Her position ignores the fact that it is the convicts’ own actions, their crimes – not any state-based racial discrimination – that make those felons ineligible to vote.

As almost every state has done since the United States was founded, New York forbids currently incarcerated or paroled prisoners from voting. Some states go even farther by prohibiting some felons from voting even after they have served their sentences. New York’s law is not so stringent. It only applies to felons still under criminal sentences. It equally applies to all felons, black or white.

There is growing evidence that Judge Sotomayor believes some races are more equal than others. She said in a 2001 speech that she would expect a Latina judge to reach the right decision more often than would a white male judge. Her dissenting opinion in Hayden v. Pataki is another example of her taking racial grievance-mongering to absurd new depths. They are depths unbefitting a Supreme Court justice.

….how can a Muslim be more like Christ?

Muslims hate the idea that any ‘Man’ could claim to be the Son of God.

And Obama has admitted to being a Muslim. In a CLASSIC Freudian slip on a Sunday morning news show last Fall, before the election.

Here’s the ‘killer’ citation from that report…

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – Sen. Barack Obama’s foes seized Sunday upon a brief slip of the tongue, when the Democratic presidential nominee was outlining his Christianity but accidentally said, “my Muslim faith.”

The three words — immediately corrected — were during an exchange with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on “This Week,” when he was trying to criticize the quiet smear campaign suggesting he is a Muslim.

  127. 128. El hefe

Keep looking up and keep speaking up. Declare before God and all around your beliefs. We cannot hide from His face and His ears are not plugged, He hears us all. There is no place to hide. The faithless will be faithless until the end but all will see the glory of God whether they want to or not. Everything is now in place and what a fortunate generation we are to be here at this time.
The wicked will bite and devour each another as they always do. Yes the wicked inflate themselves and look mighty impressive but there is no substance, there is no foundation, there is no truth in them. They will perish in their ignorance.
So if you have faith, keep it strong. Put on the whole amour of God. He would not have provided it if it was not needed. Be kind and do not be arrogant, pray for those who treat you badly for their souls are in jeopardy and you might save a few. You might even save yourself.

  129. 130. Self-hating Boomer

One thing to note about BLT a la TUCC – they claim that Jesus was black. It follows from that that 2000 years ago, they believe that Palestine was populated by Blacks, and the modern Jews are impostors as Hebrews.

This is one variation on a group of religious variants known as Replacement Theology, whereby the Jews are replaced by various other groups. One of the more ludicrous variants of RT is British Israelism, believed by the Aryan Nations.

So Obama sat in a Church for 20 years, that not only was odious and objectionable for many other reasons, but shares the antisemitic Replacement Theology with the Ayran Nations gang.

Liberal Jews, try to defend that. Obama’s church believes that all (not just Ashkenazi) Jews are impostors.

  130. 131. fred

    Self Hating Boomer at 130,

The Church has long declared Replacement Theology a heresy and condemned it. Obama is quite comfortable with heresies, heretics, and reprobates. It was for a variety of reasons that I consider the president of the University of Notre Dame a menace to the Church for inviting this evil man in to speak and to be awarded an honorary doctorate.

One of the truly sad facts of modern America is the fact that so many of its people are theologically illiterate. Ideas have consequences, and that especially applies to theology.

All heresies are a mixture of both truths and falsehoods. Some have only the thinnest of any truth ensconced within it, and Jeremiah Wright’s “church” (I call it a cult, like Islam)advocates a ton of falsehoods. Barack Obama was raised as a Red Diaper Baby. His reference was the worldview of Marxism, and he admits it in his first autobiography, because he cites his most important influences: both were Marxists, and one was a CPUSA member, Frank Marshall Davis. Obama’s mother, Stanley Ann Dunham, was a kind of revisionist Marxist. At Occidental College he made sure to sign up for courses taught by Marxists and chose only to associate with radicals. Barack Obama had no Christian training or background when he was growing up. When he went to Chicago after he had graduated from Columbia University he took up with Rev. Wright, I believe, because the theology of that cult fit his worldview and values.

The mystery of iniquity. The eternal costs to, and rewards for, a soul are so great when evaluating our position in the universe. The price of choosing wrong eternal suffering perhaps. The reward of choosing The Way, The Truth and The Life immeasurable and reportedly beyond description or price. And yet we hedge. We lie to ourselves. We want it both ways. Its not like Our Lord asks some awful price of us. Simply healthy living and to put Him first. This is so hard? Why? Because we are so very stiff necked and proud. So proud so willful.

And the fool says, “But there is no God. You want me to live thus and so because of a foolish notion you cannot prove.” Well, do as you wish. I’m not taking that bet.

The Da Vinci Code as serious theology???? LMAO!!

It’s a work of fiction. By the way, I enjoy Dan Brown’s novels, but I don’t take them as serious theological discovery or discussion.

The Gospel of Thomas was considered representative of a Gnostic Christian community. Gnosticism was declared a heresy for a very good reason: gnosticism despairs of earth, creation, the body, history, etc. It is a radical dualism that holds that creation is a fallen order. That’s at odds with the Old Testament’s Jewish view of creation as essentially good.

We are saved through a body. Grace comes to us through creation, sacrament, community, and the very earthiness of food, wine, and all that is good that God created. God took a human form to live with us and bring salvation to us.

For gnostics, salvation is literally in our heads. The body gets in the way. It is not surprising that down through the centuries those who inhabit academia are tempted by the heresy of gnosticism.

BTW, I consider myself a former and reformed Pelagian heretic. In my Marxist days, I was really into Liberation Theology. But at least my kind of heresy had proper respect for the body. Just that I was a bit too optimistic about the perfectability of history. We are always going to struggle against evil. There are no perfect, utopian “structures” that will rid us of it.

  143. 145. Daniel

This article is hilarious and full of idiocy.

Hawkins ridicules Obama for “when he discusses any of his personal positions that go against the Christian faith, such as his pro-abortion stance, he always makes certain to mention that he’s a Christian in the process.” From this statement it seems the author is bashing Obama for trying to sneak in that he is Christian every time he says he supports abortion.

However the author says in the same article that “Obama wants his judgments and convictions to be our guide in all spheres of life, even when his judgments run 180 degrees counter to the natural law that guided our Founders or the Bibles that guided the Puritans.”

It seems to me Mr. Hawkins that you, ooh so conveniently, put the founders and the Bible in the same sentence and to top it off right next to each other. You seem quick to ridicule Obama for sneaking in a Christian label for himself, but when it comes to sneaking in Christianity with the founding fathers (who were deists, some strongly against Christianity, AND agreed that America is NOT a Christian nation or being found upon Christian values) you do it quickly and happily.

Mr.Hawkins you are a professor and I do not think it is my place to try to tell you are wrong, because I am sure you are much smarter than me, but when you say “Forget the “one nation under God” stuff and” I must remind you that under god was not part of the pledge until we had our hustle with the Soviets. Just a piece of history for you. I would suggest you not claim the long, deeply rooted, and high importance of Christianity and then end your opinion piece with a phrase that made its way into our lives very recently in comparison with Christianity’s time span.

By the way Mr.Hawkins people who claim issues are black and white usually love to tell others what is moral and then in the same step do completely the opposite. Just telling you that from personal experience.

Obama is a capitalist. Who wouldn’t want a 60% stake in a company (GM) that failed? Isn’t that the same as taking over oil rich Iraq after a failed regime?
The healthcare industry hasn’t worked as it should using profit as its willing force. Teachers that have been given healthcare contracts for 10 years have bankrupt the taxpayer and are robbing students fo a better education. The unions have experienced the same situation-contracts are made ahead of time, and the price of healthcare cost more than the steal to make a car. Healthcare HMO’s are shaking in their boots-GOOD! Because that is the next industry to fail under capitalistic greed.
The financial mess was inherited by the past administration. Our deficit peaked in 2007-largest in history-thanks to a war in which Bush made as a dictator. Before the election the bottom dropped out and Obama has had a big pile of elephant poop to clean up.

Co-opting religion or not, even saints like Soetoro can have really, really bad days – here’s the latest installement from Soetero’s Malheures (Vivo, Jack, POM, Sheeshkebob & cie will sure love this):

The White House has just opened a mighty “Open Government Dialogue” website, asking for suggestions and views, the top slot being the “Government Transparency”, and guess what – the vast majority of the questions received by this noble initiative were… Where is the birth certificate? Can’t you show the birth certificate? etc.

Bellow is Misanthopicus’ respectful post on this Open Government Dialogue/ Transparency issues:

    “Madam/ Sir,
It is essential for mister Obama’s credibility and further governing this country to provide proof that he was/ is eligible to be a US president.
Otherwise, any of his public acts (signing laws home, or treaties with foreign powers) can be at any time challenged at great expense, peril or loss of American lives.

In addition to this potential misery, he and his associates can be at any time called in an American court of law to answer criminal charges for raising $700 million dollars in electoral campaign funds from the public under a false pretense of electoral eligibility.

The country needs a closure in this matter – and adressing this matter expeditiously would show true statemanship -
Hope to hear about this soon -”

Hawkins is right about Obama trying any trick to perpetuate himself, including cultivating his Messianic image – yet, looks like even a saint can’t escape the predicament of painting himself in the corner of government transparency.

    And their answer was . . . ? [..]

Bellow is my updated post there, and it already got 56 approvals:

“Mister Obama’s expenses for the NY City trip

I find very disturbing that the White House is not willing to reveal the costs of this excursion. Of course, the pressures of the job are great, and the president sure deserves a respite – however, the expenses of this trip (five helicopters, dozens of WH salaried workers doing overtime, cars moved to New York, Secret Service, other security measures, other logistics, then the deployment on the NY streets of hundred of cops, action which must be re-imbursed by the WH) sure goes significantly beyond $25.000 – and this in times of dire economics, with millions of people unemployed, with millions of families that live on $40 a week, and with no sign of relief anywhere in sight.

Much fuss and deservedly so, is around the British MPs’ expenses accounts (cleaning a moat, a fancy bra or tampons for a mistress, refurbishing a windvane, sausages, onions & ale for the honorables, etc.) but those expenses are minuscule in comparison with mister Obama’s Pharaonic-type of leisure expenses.

Very expensive folly as this act was, the arrogant witholding of the numbers is just adding insult to injury.
The US is not Haiti, US is a democracy, and not who-knows-what despotic polity whose coffers are also the ruler’s pockets –

    Why Is This Idea Important?
For a democracy to exist and not fall in a primitive political state of other despotical regimes in the world, the American executive personnel, part of which temporarily mister Obama is, must be financially and otherwise fully accountable – this situation MUST be immediately addressed, the amount of money spent must be revealed and rapidly recovered.”

In 8 hours more than 50 approving/ re-posting is not that bad – definitely more effective than your, POM’s, Sheesh’s and acj’s slobbering around here -

You mention foreign car brands made in the USA. That would naturally be the consumer’s way to vote with their wallets. But Our Dear Leader knows this. That is why the EPA has new CAFE standards. They apply to the Honda’s, Toyota’s, etc. also. Face it, government motors will not want a level playing field. They have to “coerce” the public to buy their cars and so we can expect more developments which will penalize/punish them for their quality and innovativeness while rewarding union movements at these companies. It just wouldn’t look good for government motors to have product sitting in inventory while foreign brands are flying out of showrooms. Nope, that is not what this administration will allow to happen. Bet on it.

“Is this in any form a pertinent comment?”

You said you wrote to the WH (misspellings and everything), but did not say what they responded. Now in your ulcerated madness, you make a mess out of a simple question. Your brain connectors are overloaded and cracking. We all can see that.

Still no answer? Feel rejected? What’s a million $ weekend compared with the Iraqui billions? Maybe the Pres is sending a message to revive the economy: spend.

If unemployment is at 12%, employment is at 88% . . . That’s a lot of disposable income.

Barack Hussein Obama was elected because of the ignorance and naivety of those who never bothered to investigate the basic core underlying ideologies that motivate him.

He will eventually fail, but not until the masses are hurt enough to figure out that the majority of his policies are terribly flawed.

The hurt will come in the form of economic stress and possibly in the form of a war that he will help create through ideological pandering and through a process of neglect that will take shape in the form of a proprietary default.

So, be part of the solution…
Resist Obama in any way you possibly can because he does not represent what is best for the common man in this country.

Have you noticed that what he says and what he does are usually totally opposite?

Obama is an elitist through and through.

RE 169/Vivo RE 161/167. misanthropicus/Vivo (about the Government Transparency site) : “And their answer was? [..]”

    Vivo, coleric little creature:
    1) The WH didn’t answer, obviously – and this is an answer.
    2) The thread initiated by me, got by this time over 100 appprovals & re-posts, number which you Soeterotrolls sure dread (and envy).

As far as your activities on PJM, my previous post 162 perfectly describes ‘em: “Vivo … your priming with dung Soetoro’s statue is a lovely spectacle, keep doing it, keep doing it!”

  170. 172. misanthropicus

RE #169/vivo (vis-avis Soetoro’s excellent $3 millions junket to NYC): [...] What’s a million $ weekend compared with the Iraqui billions? Maybe the Pres is sending a message to revive the economy: spend.

“If unemployment is at 12%, employment is at 88%. That’s a lot of disposable income.” – what your notion of an economic recovery is, is beyond any normal human’s comprehension. But you made it, buddy again, I’m certain that PJM has moved your bust on their “shelf of imbecilic posts” in a top position.

Obama is a puppet and his strings are being pulled by the Bilderberg Group. He and HRC met with them on June 5, 2008. Their goal is to collapse the dollar.
