Once Again, Islamists Bully Europe on Free Speech
Recently, French Islamists (presumably) firebombed the office of French satirical weekly magazine Charlie Hebdo for its speech. Simultaneously, Charlie Hebdo’s website was also taken down in a cyber-attack by a Turkish hacker. The firebombing and hacking occurred just one day after the magazine, which has a history of equal opportunity offensiveness, cheekily announced that the Islamic Prophet Mohammed was going to be a guest editor for this week’s edition, “(i)n order fittingly to celebrate the Islamist Ennahda’s win in Tunisia and the NTC (National Transitional Council) president’s promise that Sharia would be the main source of law in Libya.”
The weekly’s publisher, Stephane Charbonnier, stated that for this special edition the magazine would be rebaptized “Sharia Hebdo” as a pun on Islamic Sharia law, and would feature on its cover a picture of Mohammed saying: “100 lashes if you don’t die of laughter!” Not surprisingly, Charlie Hebdo’s announcement immediately prompted threats from Islamists in France who oppose any depiction of Mohammed, however benign, as blasphemy. And just a day later, the firebombing followed.
There is really nothing new to see here. Since the Salman Rushdie affair, Islamists have steadily ramped up their pressure against free speech in the West. Any type of speech that offends their delicate Islamist sensibilities is quickly denounced, and the person (or persons) issuing it is then threatened with defamation lawsuits, violence, or even death. Increasingly often, the Islamists follow through on their threats. And just as often, those in the West cave — usually before any violence occurs — and censor themselves or apologize for their own speech.
Remember the Danish cartoons and the resulting Muslim riots? Remember the threats against South Park and Comedy Central? Remember Molly Norris going “ghost” for her suggestion of an “Everybody Draw Mohammed Day”? Remember the slaughter of UN workers in Afghanistan because Terry Jones burned a Koran in Florida? Remember … well, there are just too many examples to remember.
There is also nothing much new to write here. As I have already written:
At some point in the future, the U.S. [and the West in general] is going to have to make a hard choice. We can stand up to Islamist driven bullying, or we can fold our tents and give them the power to dictate what we can say or do (at first only about Islam, but later about everything).
The French get this, at least when it comes to Islamist violence directed against free speech. The publisher of Charlie Hebdo vowed to stand his ground and to publish his magazine with Mohammed on its cover. He did. In fact, he printed an extra 175,000 copies after its first print run of 75,000 sold out. Then, he and his coworkers made plans to further tweak the Islamists, with a new cover for the next week’s edition that features a cartoon of a Muslim man and a man labeled Charlie Hebdo locked in a homosexual kiss. (Some media have reported that this new cover is also a depiction of Mohammed. This does not seem to be the case.) Hundreds of Frenchmen, both ordinary and famous, attended a demonstration in Paris “in defense of the right to blaspheme.” The French prime minister, various other government ministers, the mayor of Paris, and many other prominent Frenchmen all condemned the firebombing attack, and strongly defended Charlie Hebdo’s right to free speech. French supporters of Charlie Hebdo even included Frenchmen who “at one time or another, have threatened the magazine with defamation suits.”
If only the American press were as brave. Paris Time magazine’s bureau chief Bruce Crumley showed nothing but disdain for Charlie Hebdo’s free speech:
Okay, so can we finally stop with the idiotic, divisive, and destructive efforts by “majority sections” of Western nations to bait Muslim members with petulant, futile demonstrations that “they” aren’t going to tell “us” what can and can’t be done in free societies? Because not only are such Islamophobic antics futile and childish, but they also openly beg for the very violent responses from extremists their authors claim to proudly defy in the name of common good.
James Kitfield, National Journal’s security correspondent, echoed Crumley. Christopher Dickey, the Paris bureau editor at Newsweek, tried to deflect the blame to the far right in France, because, he said, it rather than the Islamists had the most to gain from the attack. A major left-wing American website, the Huffington Post, “deplor(ed) the conversation that followed the attack on Charlie Hebdo’s offices” because it did not “sufficiently condemn the ‘disrespectful’ publication, but rather suggested — shockingly — that satire be considered an acceptable ‘part of the French tradition.’” And even the mainstay of U.S. journalism, the New York Times, has been mute on the threat to free speech.
I am shocked to be saying this, but the U.S. needs to emulate the bravery of the “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” when it comes to standing up for free speech against Islamist violence. Otherwise, Islamists will continue to be emboldened and crank out new things Westerners cannot speak about. Just recently, in Switzerland, in America, and in Egypt, some Muslims have declared that another form of speech portraying the Christian cross is also a problem. In Egypt, the Islamists have even threatened and killed Copts for having it. Considering the Islamists’ rabid anti-Semitism, it is also probably safe to say that any Jewish religious symbols are considered even more of a provocation. And now, in something that probably needs to be seen to be believed, the humor-challenged Muslim radicals in the Middle East have discovered that certain toy guns are blasphemous to Islam.
Just wait until this madness spreads to the U.S. Do we really want these kinds of people determining what we can say about anything?

What this idiot fails to realize is that the actions of the magazine clearly demonstrate that they ARE NOT islamophobic. They are not afraid of that islamist threaten to do, hence, no fear of islam.

Good for the French! I’ve been surprised by French determination and strength in the last year or so. They stepped up and were very active in Libya (for what that is worth) and now they seem quite ready to stand up to the Islamists. If they keep it up I’m going to start singing La Marseillaise on a regular basis. Then again good old Sarkozy called our prime minister a liar, so maybe not.

That’s not fear you’re smelling. It’s not even the scent of contempt. It’s the overwhelming fragrant aroma of pure, unadulterated hatred for a belief system that is completely, absolutely, and forever incompatible with the foundational values of America, most specifically, the individual’s rights of life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness, freedom of religion, of thought, and speech. Born of hate, islam is, and will be, consumed by the same. There’s not enough love on this planet to deter a couple of billion jihadis committed to making the rest of us submit or die. We can only hope to beat it back into the cave of horrors from which it sprang, and pray for Divine intervention. This is all rather moot, since France will be majority Muslim by 2050 to 2055. The Islamists can bide their time until about 2035 or so, and then try to seize control of France – by then, at least the majority of “youths” will be Muslim, and they will be the ones taking to the streets to seize power, while elderly native Europeans cower in fear.

I also think that the French are beginning to understand that there is no place to run to anymore. Gone are the colonies where people could go if they didn’t like what was going on in France itself. Today, if the French don’t defend what France stands for, then all is really lost.
If I were the Islamists, I would not push the French too far on this. The French are very, very, capable of lashing out against the Muslims and have done so in the past. The Muslims are pushing their luck if they think France will bend to their every demand. If you don’t believe me, just look at how they behaved during World War II. While occupied by Germany, the French Vichy fascists had no problems AT ALL rounding up and killing jews. In fact, the French embraced the Vichy government and actively supported it. They certainly did not rebel against it that much. So there is no reason to believe that the same thing couldn’t happen with French outrage against Muslims. When Europeans are confronted with a serious threat to their own country, they do what they do best, and that is destroy the threat. If I were a Muslim in France, I’d start keeping my mouth shut.
The French are still 90% French. Americans haven’t the same demographic as during WW2. The US is becoming less European and more dark and dark races haven’t shown much interest in standing up to the Big Man. See South Africa and the former Rhodesia. Or, for that matter, look at the USA. Wherever non-Europeans gain power central authority expands and corruption increases. Blacks in the USA vote around 90% socialist, as do Muslims in France. MesoAmericans vote about 65% socialist as do highly educated women.
Women are already shifting away from the idea of monogamy to serial husbands or fathers of their children. Black women now give birth to children 70% of whom do not have a father (59% of black women have children with more than one father). Non-elite white women are trending in the same direction. They would be attracted to the idea of polygamy as found in Islam. In an poorer America, alpha males rich enough to afford several wives would flourish while beta males become gay. This trend can be observed today in liberal enclaves as seen in the so-called metrosexual man who is actuality bisexual, if not in deed, in his lack of manly qualities.

If so, you are therefore stating that Jews somehow posed a threat to the French. Indeed, what you are saying is that the Jews were more of a threat than the occupying Nazis and at least as threatening to French society as islam is today. Ridiculous.

I hate to say this but I think the Americans will cave on Islam. They have a history with affirmative action. The French have never gone down that slippery slope. Maybe there will be a Christian revival in the States. The French are less feminized than the Americans and may be able to throw out their Muslims as the elites begin to understand Islam’s affect on them. Why would American elites care if they are Muslim or not? We’ll see how the elite American women respond. So far they don’t seem to mind.

I believe that on closer inspection you will discover that the far left elites are not indicative of Americans. Also, the sentiment in the reaction to the latest Islamist outrage in France has been building for quite some time. Do you recall the riots, by islamic youth, in response to the police violating their neighborhood’s sovereignty? When we speak of the French, there are the people, and then, there is the government, there is a quite a difference. The people have made a statement to the islamists and the government this nonsense will stop, or else! Power to them!!

I was living in Paris during the 2005 riots. In another comment I made at PJ I said it was sparked by a police shooting similar to Rodney King. I now remember it as a muslim kid being chased by cops. He hid in some sort of high-voltage station and electrocuted himself. Wasn’t touched by the flicks.
It doesn’t matter much that elites aren’t the same as the people. Upper caste Hindus have ruled lower caste Hindus for centuries. To me, having also lived in India, the current “protected groups” setup looks awfully caste-like. People are now born into certain racial and sexual groups protected by hate crime laws. This is a caste system. It may seem upside down but women and homosexuals (semi-lesbians and lesbians) seem to be coming out on top with white heterosexual men at bottom.

You have it exactly right. Half of human life is self delusion and fantasy. If something catastrophic were to happen, like an asteroid or nuclear war, although it would be tragic for those of us living through it, it would, in reality, be cathartic–purgitive for the human race. The survivors would be more intelligent, more physically fit, and reoriented to reality for generations after. This presupposes, of course, that the calamity wouldn’t be fatal for all of mankind.
I started to develop some respect for the French when they sank that Greenpeace boat in the south Pacific a few years back.
A lot is going on in France, with its 700 odd zones urbaines sensibles (ZUS) around cities where cops no longer enter to enforce French law to its sometimes mass Islamic public prayers in the streets of Paris, in open defiance of law banning such displays. And re-affirmation of French law banning religious dress and symbols in public bldgs.
I imagine the smart guys at Charlie Hebdo (there was a TV documentary of an earlier case that CH won) are intensely frustrated at the relentless attempts to alter French society. However, blatant provocations (such as the new cover you link) seem way over the top.
Maybe the situation in France is such that you have to go way over the top to touch the truth.
One thing that differentiates radical Muslims from normal human beings is their willingness to firebomb a bldg., and, even more extreme, to perform acts like the London, Madrid, Indonesian bombings, just the tip of that iceberg.

Here in NYC, at the Brooklyn Museum, we have an exhibit featuring ants crawling over Jesus. I was in Munich in 1972 when the muslims took the israeli Olympic team hostage. I quickly learned to hate muslims. On 9/11 I had never heard of Osama bin Laden and quickly renewed my hatred strengths. With the Middle East wars almostover we are now bracing for an Iranian bomb. And I hope we bomb first. But along this path something happened, like a “funny thing happened on the way to..” in the joke. But it was not a joke. The Lord sometimes brings people together to show them that all are not evil and hate must be focused. In 2008, I had a heart attack, the ambulance took me to an ER and the cardiologist who administered to me, spoke in a strong loud voice, “No more smoking!” I had tried for decades
to quit, on that morning I quit! No craving, nothing, it was like a miracle. My cardiologist is a big man, a strong figure, from Egypt, a muslim. With all the hate I had from earlier I was faced with realizing not to focus it everywhere. There are those who threaten us and there are those who try to save our lives. Know when anger is justified and for whom.

Unfortunately you have discovered the phenomenon called “One on One”. In those instances you generally find the normal or human side of any person based on a need that you have at that moment. The same could be said of NAZI’s or any other group that displayed, as a group, traits that as an individual would be considered barbaric. The problem is that when there is an underlying dogma or religion that requires strong compliance with it’s laws the individual can never be trusted to do the right thing if a conflict between their religion and a momentary issue arises. I cannot foresee an issue that would cause me to fear any other religion that I am aware of except Islam in any situation. Just think about all of the restrictions Islam places on it’s followers. No seeing eye dogs, no alcohol, no other religions, no borrowing of money, food issues, misogyny issues and many many more that in this country may not be a threat but in a Muslim country you would be in peril if you violated any one of these. Just remember one thing; Muslims are like the dripping water in an underground cave. At any one time it is not very impressive but over the ages the turn out some pretty huge stalactites. This is the threat they impose on Western society. They will chip away at our laws and culture until they become the majority and then we all KNOW what will happen then under the religion of peace!

For this all of them should be looked upon as potential enemies. Their code of silence, dhimmitude among Western leaders just add to the threat.
For these one-on-one situations with Muslims, it is not hatred that I feel, but a deep mistrust. You may have had a good experience with a Muslim doctor, but just scroll up to another post and you see how a Muslim doctor let a Jewish patient die from an easily treated condition. It was also a group of Muslim doctors that tried to blow up Heathrow airport. Even that Fort Hood Muslim psychiatrist treated his soldier patients well until he decided to murder thirteen of them.
I remember an article a few years back of a Muslim in Israel who was a “good friend” to his Jewish neighbor. He confided in him that if his imam demanded it, he would have no qualms about killing “his Jew” and the Jew’s kids too.
You never know when one of these Muslims will become radicalized by a killer imam or suddenly “go jihad”. The sad, tragic thing in our society is that the politicians and legal system in western countries will more likely charge you with Islamophobia and excuse the acts of violent jihad as having “….nothing to do with Islam, a religion of peace.”

What seems obvious to me that others may have missed is that liberals embrace is-lame because they think it’ll be a great idea if the muslims do the heavy lifting and dirty work and then when there is sufficient upheaval in our Western society, the liberals come in and clean up the town and make it remarkably better and can more easily reconstruct it in their utopian vision.
Naturally, and as always the liberals have not accounted for the laws of unintended consequences such as the birthrate of the sand-people and they’re overwhelming desire to consistently exceed the abilities of the food supply. The liberals also (perhaps) don’t realize that muslims do not think anything like Westerners in any way. Westerners have for generations gotten away from tribal loyalty-type thinking which is a way of life for muslims.
So this welcoming of islame attribute of the liberals is a blueprint that’s bound to fail. It will never end up the way they think it will, as with all liberal ideas. Think worst case scenario where the muslims simply fire off several nukes to get their way and don’t care about radioactive places that they can’t live in.
Their “leadership” is both patient and arrogant. They don’t care if the world ends up with everyone dead and no one having anything at all. So much the better for them, except that they are cowards and rather than make the trip to the land of virgins on their own, they recruit the blindly angry youth to do it for them. They are secret capitalists, these mullahs and imams who pretty much dig being mortal and having loads of cash. They have the laundry-list of weird sexual habits and preferences, palettes and choices of conveyance. I would submit that most if not all are mentally ill and this may be due to inbreeding, similar to what many Western royal families suffered.
But it will all come to a head and I tend to agree that Europeans will get pretty fed up with the local muslims who refuse to assimilate. Tolerance is proving to be a fool’s errand though the intentions were good (as they always seem to be) but when the people cry “uncle” it will hopefully happen when there is a conservative government in power that will find a way to deport them and prevent them from returning.
Outside of Paris, the French are extraordinarily patient and friendly. They are also largely conservative and religious. I think that part of France will rise up and be heard.
The “cheese-eating surrender monkeys” have been pushing back against Islamism far more strenuously and for a far longer time than we in the US have done. We should be embarrassed and ashamed.

This being Europe, this whole thing can only end in one of two ways. Either they end up bending knee to Islam, or they freak out and go way overboard as Europeans are want to do, with a new Final Solution for Islam.
I suspect it will be the later, and I suspect it will start with the Germans……it’s always the Germans.
Given that muhammedans envision a “final solution” where everyone who’s not one of them is killed, the only viable way to end the threat they pose is indeed to kill them all.

I used to have a muhammedan coworker who considered himself extremely moderate.
In his view, that meant he only beat his wife a few times a week (his own admission, in his words to beat her meant to keep her happy as it was a gentle reminder of what disobedience would bring).
It meant checking our female muslim employees several times a day to make sure they were properly dressed in their hijabs and niqabs.
It meant being away from the office every friday afternoon to attend prayer.
It meant refusing to be in the same room with our Jewish employees.
