Lisa,

I think you misunderstood what I wrote.

I don't expect it to happen either. It's clear to everyone that Olmert cannot pull this off. But what he can do is put concessions on the table that become the starting point for the next round. Just like Barak did at Taba in December 2000 - January 2001. And since he's not likely to be indicted for another three months, he has the whole summer to do it.

The Golan Heights was inhabited by Jews in ancient times. Thus it is part of the historic land of Israel and was also part of the Roman province of Judea. Jewish archeological remains on the Golan confirm what we knew from Josephus, the Talmud, Mishnah, and other written sources. There are several important Jewish archeological sites on the Golan [Gamla, etc].

It would be a crime to drive the Jews living there out of their homes or to endanger Israel's long-term security by abandoning the Golan Heights. When will people realize that "peace agreements" are not peace and can be broken and often are. Especially when dealing with a fascist like Assad and company.

Further, by negotiating with Syria now, olmert is acting as if Syria's crimes in Lebanon were of no importance.

Has any story about anything ever been accurately reported by anybody?

Sheesh. I put everything in the "Maybe" tray and wait at least a month before I even think about it.

Ain't gonna happen. Syria wields geopolitical power vastly disproportionate to its size, due to its decades-long support of terror. It would lose all that to become a "normal" country. Moreover, due to the minority status of the ruling Alawites, they realize that terror is also a prerequisite for maintaining internal control. Hama rules!
