Obama’s Shameful Handling of National Security Issues
The year 2009 has not been a stellar one for Barack Obama. It ends on a particularly sour note with the attempted bombing of Northwest Airlines Flight 253 by a Nigerian jihadist. A jihadist, whom we recently learned, may not have been alone on that flight.
Homeland Security head Janet Napolitano has taken a lot of heat, and rightly so. It took her three days to admit that airline security failed in this case. She’s incompetent and should do the honorable thing and step down. And if she doesn’t, she should be fired. But what about her boss? You know, the guy who appointed a governor whose handling of the illegal alien issues in her state was not without concern? The buck stops in the Oval Office. Why did he leave her twisting in the wind for so long? HDTV viewers likely could see the sweat oozing out of her pores as she dodged and weaved reporters’ questions.
Meanwhile, the would-be bomber warns that there are “more like me” coming to America. But I shouldn’t be so cynical. Maybe they’ve heard about the desire by some in Washington to grant amnesty to illegal aliens and are just trying to cash in on the American dream.
When Bush dropped the ball on Hurricane Katrina by “flying over” the immediate aftermath, the press raked him over the coals for weeks and months afterward. A jihadist with explosives tucked into his tighty whities makes it through airline security and is only stopped from blowing up a plane over Detroit by his own bumbling and the passengers who tackled him, and it takes Obama three days to speak to the American public? As Jerry Seinfeld might say, “What’s up with that?” We know he isn’t camera shy: before he even took office, he set a record for press conferences as president-elect, and he had quite a few in 2009. He was certainly quick to denounce a white Cambridge police officer for arresting a black Harvard professor when he “didn’t have all the facts.”
When he did finally make a public statement, it was pretty much boilerplate: ordering a review of security procedures and a promise to get the bad guys. All with the trademark “cool” that made him so different than his predecessor. Sorry, but “cool” isn’t what we need right now. We need someone who’s willing to fight.
As my friend Mark said in an email over the weekend:
BO is on vacation in Hawaii and I guess too busy to send a statement to the world that bombing a U.S. airliner is unacceptable and the parties responsible would be hunted and killed (or at least given a stern talking-to — after being Mirandized). If any other president — including Clinton — had not held a press conference on this, the press would have gone ballistic.
It happened on his vacation, sure. Crises don’t take a holiday when the president does. But that’s no excuse for taking so long to say a few words. Yet the press gives him a pass. Again. Are they really so invested in his “success” that they can’t legitimately criticize him on an issue that is vital to all of us?
Had Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab been successful, remember: that plane wasn’t just full of conservatives. I’m sure there were some liberal Democrats on board, along with plenty of Europeans who are supposed to be among Obama’s biggest fans. National security is about all Americans and those who legally come to visit or live here. It’s not some partisan game. It’s not just something that Bush “started” and will stop now that he’s been replaced by someone who, by the power invested in himself, will “restore” our standing in the world.
Okay, I’m getting a little hysterical here. I apologize. But when is national security going to become a priority for Obama? His agenda does not seem to include a serious take on national security; it’s all about remaking the country in his Marxist image. He’s more concerned about taking over the health care system and bringing the capitalist system to its knees. The jihadists know it. After all, this is a guy who has no problem sending hardened jihadists to a prison in Illinois and sending other “detainees” back to the hotbed of jihad in Yemen.
The new year is just around the corner, with celebrations planned for all four corners of the world. Is something big about to happen? If it does, will the crisis be too good to waste?
The first year of Obama’s presidency is like the proverbial train wreck: passersby are horrified by the carnage, but can’t help craning their necks for a second look. Just take a gander at the acts of jihad that have happened in America and around the world over the past year. These guys aren’t kidding. They will continue on their mission until they are successful or until they are stopped.
Does Obama have what it takes to stop them? I hate to say no, but that’s what it looks like from my little corner of the world. And it’s damn scary.

We are each on our own and Devil take the hindmost under this regime.
Mr. Obama,
I hope you’re enjoying your vacation. I canceled mine this year because I don’t have enough money to take one.
Why? I’m glad you asked. It’s because the economy totally sucks.
When you get back to work — I know you need your rest — maybe you could do something about that? Please?
Oh and see what you can do about letting terrorists fly on planes with us, after you’ve made damn sure we aren’t able to defend ourselves, too.
Thanks,
jvon
Obama is a Democrat. Democrats aren’t interested in foreign policy. They know only one thing, how to buy votes with taxpayer money. There are relatively few votes to be bought overseas ( except perhaps Mexico where comprehensive immigration reform will create and import millions of new Democrats ).
What happened to homeland security? Next time, if it’s not too late, how about electing some leaders who have run something before getting in the white house, and can keep their eyes on the ball. You don’t fight enemies by teleprompting between trips to the golf course.
The whole Obama agenda is a train wreck. We gave the keys to the kingdom to a man child.
The White House has been transformed into a sports / party complex.
Really far more things are important than golf , basketball , TV watching
and partying.
For example unemployment.
Or is this failure by design?
what, he didn’t apologize? we already have a great prison at gitmo. Fubar Atool should grow old there. we shouldn’t allow a koran anywhere near these guys.
What will the great and powerful B.O. do when the next coming jihadist attacks make 9/11 look like child’s play?
Unfortunately, we are being attacked from within and without by our own ‘cool’ guy-in-chief and his crony gangsta administration who are probably clinking his pimp in celebration and partying it up over the destructive health care plans that will bankrupt our country both financially and morally.
Def Lil’ O just wants to reign as KING and live it up on the China dime.
Scary indeed, Pam.
Edit: clinking his pimp cup
Why do I see my typos AFTER the fact? WHY? ;p
Searing. Every sentence.
Everyone insists in speaking of Obama as if he was the Leader, the individual who does the analysis, reaches conclusions, directs others – the seasoned, experienced judgment-maker whose devoted staff follow respectfully.
This President is a Pretend President. He may hold the gavel, but he is simply a third rate Chicago patsy, manipulated by much smarter people who have no great respect for his brain power. President have always used advisors, but never before have we had one who was managed by a committee.
He doesn’t make sharp decisions:he noesn’t even make the final decisions. He has to wait ntil Axelrod’s henchmen and the radical socialist staff, hash the issues over and arrive at a concensus on what he is told to say. written for him to read off the teleprompter. It has been like this since his campaign: “I’ll have to get back to you one that”; “We are not rushing to a conclusion”.
We have a flashy, “charismatic” actor for a President, incompetent in the necessary skills of governance or implementing decisions, a ventriloquist who mouths the words of others. And so we wait, repeatedly, for decisions to be worked out by a cadre of varying opinions and clout, for a fuzzy answer from a hollow figurehead. The smart, savvy, battle-seasoned leaders of other nations are starting to realize it and take advantage of us.
When Obama finally realizes the suicide bombers are at war with him, not George W. Bush, his first wish will be to surrender. He will try to give the suicide bombers what they want but that will not be enough to stop the killing. Obama will want to surrender but he will not know who to surrender to. Also Senate Democrats will not be able to get enough votes to make Obama’s surrender legal.
Maybe I’m too pessimistic. Maybe Obama will never realize the suicide bombers are at war with him. Maybe he’s just not that smart.
Obama is not interested in national security or foreign policy. It’s icky and messy amd doesn’t poll well. Expanding the p[ower of government while gutting the Treasury to enrich favored constituencies, thus buying their votes, is more interesting.
Seriously, let the guy get back to his golf game and his waffle. He’s already answered, like, 8 questions on this!
It would be really, really nice if more commentators on American politics and policy would wake up and start looking for patterns, instead of seeing each Obamunist “misstep” as an isolated, unintended divergence from a fundamentally pro-American agenda.
Fear is the health of the State. Obama and his minions are social-fascists; they seek an Omnipotent State that Americans will be unable to resist. They have repeatedly used their positions to promote fear among ordinary Americans, and to avert any action that might dispel useful (to them) fear:
Fear of being overrun by illegal immigrants? Check.
Fear of massive new wealth redistribution schemes? Check.
Fear of the dollar becoming wastepaper? Check.
Fear of the strangulation of our energy supply? Check.
Fear of the intensification of racial tensions? Check.
Fear of a Cuban-style medical care system, wherein only the politically connected can get first-rate medical products and services? Check.
Fear of nuclear terrorism by a rabidly Islamist and anti-American regime? Check.
Fear that Israel, our only genuine Middle Eastern ally, will be sacrificed to the good will of Islamic despots? Check.
Fear that our elections will henceforth be dominated by fraud and voter intimidation? Check.
And above all, fear that the president of these United States is working for interests and agendas inimical to the freedom and prosperity of these United States? Check!
Let’s stop talking about “blunders” and “incompetence” and start talking about how to neuter, and ultimately depose, the villains we’ve installed in high office.
After 3 days of waiting to hear some words of confidence and encouragement from The One, we get him reading these gems to us:
“Finally, the American people should remain vigilant, but also be confident.” (In what exactly??? Your administration? Your political-favor appointee incompetent at the head of Homeland Security? I’m NOT confident!)
“Those plotting against us seek not only to undermine our security, but also the open society and the values that we cherish as Americans.” (Duh…but more likely, they just want to KILL as many of us as possible!)
“This incident, like several that have preceded it, demonstrates that an alert and courageous citizenry are far more resilient than an isolated extremist.” (WHAT??? An “isolated extremist”? Did he just say THAT? And how about that courageous citizenry… from the Netherlands! Yes…FAR MORE
RESILIENT than the bumbling fools who let this guy get on that plane with
NO PASSPORT!!!!)
I’m completely underwhelmed…
He only reflects America at large.
This administration and it’s President is every bit the national security failure I expected he would be. He is so sensitive to percieved prejudice that it permeates the attitude and posture of the security apparatus that we tax payers are funding.
This morning we have learned that the CIA knew based, on intelligence gathered in Yemen, that that a Nigerian was going to attempt to bomb a plane at Christmas. We also know that the State Department let the Nigerian bomber on the plane even though he bought a one way ticket with cash and was missing passport documentation. He was not interviewed or diverted for a more thorough search.
This Administration is charged with protecting us as it’s first priority. The State Department, run by Hillary Clinton, Homeland Security, run by Napolitano, and the CIA, run by Leon Panetta, have now proven that despite an abundance of suspicious information, they couldn’t find a way to communicate with each other and prevent this obviously preventable incident.
The fish rots form the head down. The President sets the tone and puts forth the initial orders to his agencies. With each passing day we are learning that in spite of available information that would raise suspicion with an average untrained citizen, the administration is failing to appreciate it’s first responsibility to protect us from known danger. It is incompetent in the breach in that it’s soft rhetoric towards the enemy has permeated the agencies it controls and encouraged an attitide of willful blindness.
Anyone who took the time to research Candidate Obama would have known that such inexperience existed within the man that it was likely he would be an incompetent administrator. He ran one thing in his life, the Annenburg Challenge, which ended in demonstrable failure, further funding withdrawn by the sponsor. The most recent internatioanal example of his lack of competence reared its head on Christmas day.
Unless he changes his attitude and fires those who serve us poorly by failing to protect us, we can expect more citizens to endure the trials of the enemy as our leaders leave the gates open for them to enter our domain and attack us.
Three more years to come. Wow. Elections have cosequences, folks.
I’m afraid looking for a fihter in Obama is whistling into the wind. This POTUS is a bully with no real courage. He also has no real respect or regard for ordinary Americans, it’s all about him.
The bombers wear explosive underwear, Obama is wearing Depends. What could go wrong? The pants-wetter in chief is so clueless, it is tragic.
The most egregious part of this debacle is the fact that this man was sent by a foreign power, Al Qaeda, to kill Americans and we are about to treat him as a common criminal! There will be no intelligence gained from him once he is Mirandized and there can be no leverage except a “Plea Bargain”. Think of this as a man who broke into a school basketball game and tried to kill everyone there. Unless, and even if he did,he cried Allah Akbar he would still be treated as a common criminal. BHO is about to face what GWB faced and understand why GWB did what he did. God save us from the jihadists and BHO!
A cool and aloof president isn’t what we need; or what we have.
What we do have is an arrogant elitist that doesn’t have time to be bothered with answering petty questions coming from people that don’t count.
To make matters even worse, in spite of the fact that Obama and the 111th Congress have accomplished zero at the same time they’ve introduced more sheer and tear into our society than any administration that came before them; no one.. absolutely no one can say with any conviction that Obama won’t be reelected, nor the Democrats will lose control of either chamber of Congress.
That statement would hold true even if the Islamic terrorists managed to pull off a massive terrorist attack that makes September 11th, 2001 pale in comparison.
Why do I say that? Because the American people that elected Obama will never see him as anything other than their personal god and savior.
The world is in bad shape because of Bush and for no other reason.
Count on it. Suck it up. Take it to the bank. Bet on it.
Pam, Mr. Obama isn’t like liberals of old. Kennedy, Truman, FDR (even Johnson & Carter served in the Navy) were more than willing to fight for America. Liberals today firmly believe that since America is the problem, and thus not worth fighting for. Today you won’t find many Liberals serving in the military, because they don’t think there is much worth fighting for. They leave that for those who are “less fortunate than themselves” so that they can go on to “leadership” roles. The only recent Liberal who was nominated for national office was Kerry, and has spent the rest of his career denouncing the military.
But most of all, Liberals don’t see national security as an important issue. They view terrorism as a law enforcement issue, and not a genuine threat to the nation. Thus we will have rediculous trials in NY City for those whom we have taken on the battlefield. KSM’s trial will be a sideshow and is a huge threat to our security apparatus. Prosecutors will have to turn over large amounts of sensitive data that will compromise our ability to continue to defeat Al Quieda.
Furthermore, by not immediately sacking Mrs. Napolitano (a political hack with NO background in security issues) from her position as secretary of DHS after her repeated statements that “the system worked”, he has signalled once again that his administration’s belief that terrorism isn’t a threat to the security of this country. Again, his dithering over actually implementing the plan his hand picked commanders in Afghanistan have put forward is another symptom of his inability to actually use the “Big Stick” of TR’s fame.
Liberals, apparently, let the media do their thinking for them. Their sense of outrage is on a short string to CNN. Damn those Teabaggers and Rush Limbaugh! Anyone with an ounce of shame would be embarassed to have voted for and be represented by Mr. Cool.
“Yet the press gives him a pass. Again. Are they really so invested in his “success” that they can’t legitimately criticize him on an issue that is vital to all of us?”
I think we all know the answer to that question. The big 3, ABC, CBS and NBC have so utterly failed in their responsibility as a free press in a free nation that they are hemorrhaging viewers and left wing newspapers are closing down all over the country. I simply don’t watch the big 3 news broadcasts anymore because I don’t know if I am hearing the truth or not.
Train wrecks full of toxic waste are expensive and hard to clean up. We, the voting public, have a chance to begin the cleanup in the elections of 2010. Will we take it??
Mistral @ #1: Spot-on.
Pam – As I’ve said in a comment elsewhere on PJM, elections have consequences. A majority of Americans got snookered by the MSM and elected someone to be POTUS who is simply beyond his pay grade. He has neither the experience nor the capability of being Commander in Chief. Indeed, look how long he dithered on the surge in Afghanistan and then settled for a 75% surge. In the matter of NW flight #253 his Administration has treated this as a criminal matter when it is really an act of war, and should be treated as such. So,what happened with NW 253 will happen again. At some point, luck will run out and people will die. I should also point out, this POTUS is too intent on instituting his statist agenda to be bothered by piddly things like airplanes being blown out of the sky
As for the MSM, insofar as it is peopled with individuals who are sympathetic to this POTUS, do not expect any criticism of his actions to be forthcoming from them. They only print all the news that fits their agenda, which pretty much parallels his. While the American people might have gotten snookered in 2008 by the MSM, I think that as time goes on they will realize that (as many already have). I would like to think that come 2010 and then 2012, there will be a humongous backlash against him and they.
There was an awful lot of anti-terrorist systems put into place after 9/11 and further more after the shoe-bomber, but most were essentially ad hoc, rushed and done at department levels with not nearly enough coordination. The new DHS became the weak link and became essentially ignored and bypassed by the other agencies when it came to terrorist (and cyber) threats. Bush let DHS deteriorate, as well as his supposed war on terror — al-Qaeda and its allies were a the real US enemy and terrorist group, not Hussein. Obama pledged to go after al-Qaeda and that’s what he’s been doing since within days of taking office.
What has not exactly been made clear by the media, both new and old, with this latest terror attempt is that it follows directly after the US “aided” in attacks on the al-Qaeda in Yemen — which is the connection to the Nigerian would-be bomber Abdulmutallab. It looks as though that CIA had the key piece of info about Abdulmutallab being a possible threat, and there is some finger pointing now going on between them and the NCTC about who didn’t do what. The NCTC, like DHS, is also a Bush-created agency and it’s unclear if it’s been helpful in any practical way or has it just created another layer of bureaucracy. My sense is that there are now too many agencies involved in anti-terrorism, and with not nearly enough cooperation. While some of the lack of cooperation can be blamed on turf-protection, there is a lot of classified stuff involved, so there is a practical reluctance to limit the number of people in the know. Also, there are an awful lot of potential threats that need to be sorted out regularly, and sorting out the harmless nutcases from the real deals is not so easy. Bush’s approach was to act like a drunk, angry hick with a shotgun and lots of friends and ammo — shoot everything up first, go after anyone you have a grudge against, and maybe think later. That approach did not exactly work.
Where is Jamie Gorelick now?
The Socialist-in-Chief has made America unsafe and very vulnerable to these Islamic Jihadist TERRORISTS. Obama, Janet and Eric Holder should all be fired for recklessly putting this country at risk and giving blood-thirsty terrorists and ruthless enemy combatants the same rights that law-abiding citizens are afforded.
Now, America is finally waking up and understanding what the conservatives had been saying about this elitist, arrogant charlatan — i.e., that he is only about SELF and partisan politics and that he wants to change this great country of ours into a non-superpower equal in stature and form to overly-taxed European countries and filled with idealogues like himself – dependent and generationally beholden to his party.
Vote this shameless phoney out in 2012, and clean Washington of other selfish, self-serving scumbags like Pelosi, Harry Reid, Rangel, Barney Frank, Dodd and Boxer.
Let’s reclaim the America we love by voting in patriotic, effective leaders who believe in American exceptionalism, opportunity through education, traditional family values, a free market system/capitalism, a strong military, strong defense, smaller government, and compassionate conservatism like Lt Col Allen West http://allenwestforcongress.com/ and Governor Bobby Jindal.
Had the nation as a whole been willing to admit we were at war we wouldn’t have elected a narcissist. It’s about time the citizens of this country realize that if they want elected officials to serve them rather than dictate to them as if they were subjects of the crown that they need to elect an entirely different sort of person than most who now hold office. There’s nothing lacking in a personality that desires to be the best in a service field and nothing especially outstanding in a personality that wants to prove they can dictate as well as any tyrant in history. Unless we elect those who have the service attitude, we’re not going to have a government that can admit we’re at war because doing so constrains them and keeps them from pursuing their own self-aggrandizing goals.
Obama doesn’t admit we’re at war and worse still, doesn’t care whether we are or not. As long as the losses are limited to those he doesn’t need in order to fulfill his own fantasy they’re not important in his mind and will not be important even if they run into the thousands, or like LBJ, the tens of thousands.
Regards
Make no mistake about it, The One is willing to fight. The problem is that like most “progressives”, he can’t find the target.
His most recent statement on the attempted bombing states that there was a “failure” of the system. Nice of him to admit it. He then did his by-now-trademark “double down on the dogma” by referring to the would-be bomber as an “isolated extremist” and “troubled”. Cue the “Lone Nut” hypothesis.
You can’t really accuse The One of taking it out of context. Seen through the (rose-colored) prism of his dogmas, in which there is no such thing as Islamist terrorism (only “man-caused disasters”, similar to the “much greater threat” of AGW), there is no “context” there to begin with. (“If it’s not in frame, it does not exist” to quote John Lithgow as F.W. Murnau.)
He does recognize certain “organized threats”, and vows to fight them with all the resources at his command. To him, those “organized threats” would be all those unenlightened types who “cling to guns and religion”- and are found in Flyover Country. He does not recognize the existence of armed religious fanatics in places with names like Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, etc.- that’s just not possible. (And if they attack us, it’s our fault, anyway.)
In short, The One’s response to this, as with the Fort Hood murderer, is to simply say “It cannot be true, therefore it is not”. And concentrate our resources on the “real threat”- a substantial portion of the 48% of registered voters who “proved” how stupid, unenlightened and, yes, “bigoted” they are by voting for his opponent in 2008.
In the “virtual reality” in the Oval Office, and in our President’s mind, that’s the only real danger.
As Yul Brynner said in “The Ten Commandments”, “So let it be written; so let it be done.”

I think Obama is HOPING that the jihadists will take down another plane soon. That does two things for Obama. First, Obama thinks his approval ratings will rise as we all come together after a national tragedy. And second another attack is another crisis to EXPLOIT.
That’s why you are not going to see Obama DO anything about attempted acts of terrorism. Or even ones that succeed, like Fort Hood.
The reason Obama isn’t involved with jihadism and indeed, foreign affairs is because he’s a malignant narcissist. This is a pathological condition that he probably moved into as a young boy; it means that he is unable to relate to anyone who is not a potential adulating follower.
For Obama, the only people he can relate to are those whom he can potentially manipulate to be His Followers. Any people who are not in this Set simply do not exist, as having any reality, for Obama.
Therefore, if you dissent from Obama, and he cannot manipulate you back into his Fold, by his tactics of misinformation, emotionoal manipulation and accusations of your bigotry…then you cease to exist. That’s the fate of any who oppose his domestic policies; he has no interest in your situation.
In foreign affairs, most people are focused on their own needs in their own nations. Not on adulation of Obama. Therefore Obama can’t relate to them; in his psychological state, they don’t exist.
The Iranian demonstrators don’t exist because they are focused on freedom. Not on adulation of Obama.
The jihadists don’t exist in Obama’s mind because they too are outside of being influenced by Love of Obama. Obama therefore is indifferent to them; he cannot manipulate them into being a follower of Him; they follow other cults and imams.
Not Obama.
Obama is unable, psychologically, to feel empathy for anyone other than Himself. He is also, psychologically, an intellectually barren individual. His ideology is not a result of his own thinking and analysis but is authored for him by a number of strong women in his life: his mother, his grandmother and his wife. Obama’s ‘policies’ are not his but theirs. These include the socialism of his mother and the anti-Americanism and anti-White views of his wife.
He is a dangerous and empty individual.
Smart power!
This is affirmative action competence.
BC at 14,
Nice try. You sound like a State Department dead ender. You, the Obama sychophant, complaining about too many agencies.
You have been one of about 5 or 6 regular cheerleaders for our sorry excuse for a Commander in Chief who come here to visit and interpret his policy for us. It is always Bush’s fault with you 5 or 6. You are collectively all about agencies and state solutions. You unappologetically promote the funding and expansion of the state at every turn.
Well, your state agencies just about got 300 people killed because they are completely incompetent. The average 6th grader could have put the intelligence together and singled this pathetic little scum bag out for further scrutiny, but your fearless leader’s Depts of State, Homeland Security, and CIA utterly failed to communicate with each other and let this Islamic murderer on the plane. No passport, No luggage, name in the computer watch list, father turned him in, BUT YOUR COMMANDER IN CHIEFS AGENCIES COLLECTIVELY LET HIM GET ON THE PLANE.
I find your continued references to Bush pathetic in the extreme and so does the rest of America 11 months into your hero’s Presidency. Even Maureen Dowd is begining to wake up to Mr Excuses for Everything.
Why don’t you grow up just a little and start taking responsibility for the obvious failures in judgement that President Golfs Alot is exhibiting on a daily basis? You, Moho, Vivo and a couple of million other fellow travelers are responsible for giving us this gift of a leader. It’s more than high time you acknowledged your utterly pathetic lack of judgment that lead you to foist this incompetent dolt of a man, who failed at the one thing he actually ran, on the rest of us.
You need to take your talking points campaign elsewhere. We don’t need any more of your ad hoc agency “analysis” here.
How can we blame the President? He warned everybody not to get all wee weed up. The poor unloved lonely conflicted devout Muslim didn’t get the memo. That’s all. It may yet be proven to be all Bush’s fault. It’s also possible that Sarah Palin may have somehow caused this victim of Western civilization to feel horribly inadequate. Let’s not jump to conclusions.
Obama and his administration are the sitcom of the world. talk about reality TV.
the circus maximus.
if this administration needs a title …here it is “EPIC FAILURE”
on all fronts it is an EPIC FAILURE.
Pam, the “Buck’ no longer stops in the Oval office. That, along with the Bust of Winston Churchill were the first two thing obama removed when he took over. The Bust went to the Uk embassy and the Buck Stops Here he mailed to the ‘BOOOOOSSSHHH’
library.
Face it, we have a lowlife street hustler fronting for America hating leftist like the Soro’s nuts.
Obama is very concerned about security – his own. BY
1. Promoting His personal image around the world.
2. His desire to transform the USA into an Equal outcome state
3. Keeping and buying votes to prolong his job.
4. Getting Reid and Palosi to take responsibility for him.
5. Blaming everything on Bush and others.
6. Looking “Cool” vs. strong.
7. Bowing and sniffing in hope to be personally liked.
8. Payback for years of percived “Victimizaton”.
9. Identification with aggressors and tyrants anywhere.
10. Denying the reality of Islamic terrorism !!!
Why blame the guy himself. He knew what he is!!! Blame Americans who could not see through his charade and elected him President. Even now the majority of Americans don’t get it. Three more years to go and we will be lucky if we survive that long without a major disaster!!!
President Obama never got terrorism. America isn’t evil & the source for turning people into terrorists. However, Obama’s carping & dithering just shows the man has his priorities screwed-up; he’s still blaming Bush for his own mistakes! The man is an idiot, a narcissist, & a fool all wrapped up in a nice thin-skinned package. Yellow is his favorite color; it is the color of fear. He has no backbone except to use it against the very United States he’s supposedly representing.
A cool and aloof president isn’t what we need right now. We need someone who’s willing to fight.
It’s gonna take a bigger disaster than the pantybomber for Obama to get his a$$ in gear. He (and surrounding sycophants & cronies, see esp. AG Eric Holder), continues to be invested in defining international terrorism through the lens of criminal behavior.
(Self-anointed élitists with very little direct experience of much of anything on an actual planet know so much better than the hoi polloi.)
Also, Barack Obama is personally invested in appearing cool & cool headed. Maintaining this persona is a big deal to him.

#26.
So extending your logic, the failure of DHS/NCTC is by default, a legacy of the Bush administration, since they created the agency. So when the FBI falls on it’s face or drops the ball on terror investigations, it’s not an agents, the director, or even the current administrations fault…it’s the fault of Calvin Coolidge/Herbert Hoover who first authorized the agency. Right?

“Obama pledged to go after al-Qaeda and that’s what he’s been doing since within days of taking office.”
Hey BC, I checked your link to the UK Times piece. It talks about Obama CONTINUING a Bush policy of attacking with drones in Pakistan. So, I take it then that you support this Bush policy? Excellent….I knew you’d come around eventually.
BTW, couldn’t you find anything more recent than Jan. 23? That’s nearly a year old…..
“…..with this latest terror attempt is that it follows directly after the US “aided” in attacks on the al-Qaeda in Yemen”
Hmmmm…..Obama (following Bush policy) attacks suspected al-Qaeda targets in Pakistan via drones. This is all part of the Afghan campaign. al-Qaeda responds by trying to undermine our efforts…in Afghanistan. But, when OBAMA attempts to widen the sphere of attacks against al-Qaeda targets to Yemen (I guess Bush left his shotgun and lots of ammo behind), al-Qaeda responds by an attack on American soil.
Why is that BC? Why, when Bush expanded attacks against al-Qaeda targets (with that shotgun and all that ammo), the response from al-Qaeda was in theatre? Yet, for some reason, when Obama expands attacks against al-Qaeda targets, the response from al-Qaeda is to attempt a strike here at home?
Think about that for a moment, please. Follow your OWN links and TRY to connect the dots. Bush expands attacks on al-Qaeda; they respond in theatre. Obama expands attacks on al-Qaeda; they respond here at home.
Yes, there are problems with DHS, and NCTC, and all the other alphabet soup agencies. That’s because they’re all staffed by bureaucrats and we simply CAN’T STOP all attempts by playing defense. We’ve always had gaping holes in our security and we always will. Even if we made the airlines completely 100% safe through mandatory invasive searches of all passengers and luggage on all domestic and inbound international flights we’ve still got major border security issues.
Finally, I want to be clear on one point. Any changes by al-Qaeda in the way that they respond to us post-Bush is NOT (IMO) simply due to a perceived weakness in Obama. I believe it is due to a perceived weakness in the American public. Bin Laden claimed, from the VERY BEGINNING, that Americans did not have the stomach to continue this fight. Under Bush, particularly following the surge in Iraq (with Bush going completely against what all the popular polls advised), the signal was sent that, yes, Americans DID have the stomach to continue this fight and al-Qaeda’s response with to step up action in Afghanistan.
However, I believe that by electing an individual who was critical of EVERYTHING Bush attempted, the American public has sent a message that, perhaps, Bin Laden was right all along.

Bush took six days before commenting on the shoe bomber . . . and not a peep of protest from anybody – including Republicans, conservatives and right wing media. So, when you say, “Why did he leave her twisting in the wind for so long?” you highlight your bias. And you render your opinions irrelevant. By the way, Karl Rove is back on the market and looking for wife #3. Might want to suspend any family values outrage for a few news cycles.
BC, YOU SIR ARE AN IDIOT, GO BACK TO YOUR KNEES IN FRONT OF OBAMA
THATS ALL YOU ARE GOOD FOR
Extremely well said, Francis W. Porretto. I see Obama’s weakness in response to terrorism as inviting more terrorism. Your argument that he and his administration are consistent across the board does hit a nerve. Maybe give us more details for your argument as events unfold.
Meister: “Are they really so invested in his “success” that they can’t legitimately criticize him on an issue that is vital to all of us?”
I’m starting to feel like it is the press that has control, and not Obama. He’s “their guy”. I wonder what they have on Obama?
Ken #3 summed it up real nice.
The best news is that no one was hurt. Second best news is that independents continue to see who Obama really is.
In a speech one week after 911, Barack Obama indicated that it was incumbent upon the west to see those perpetrators in light of the cultures that spawned them and take some responsibility for fixing those cultures.
Based on his “lone actor, off-center guy” remarks following both Ft. Hood and the Christmas day incident, I’d say Obama continues in the grips of that sort of thinking, with its underlying assumption of an uncompassionate (and greedy) west basically responsible for the evolution of such kinds of individuals.
While, in fact, both of those guys had, reportedly, fallen under the influence of same the American born imam, the radical cleric who now resides in Yemen who’d been in touch with both of them (gave plaudits to Hasan on the internet post incident)who is looking to raise AQ in Yemen to the level of an international player.
Our foreign policy is stuck in the morass of Barack Obama’s naiveté.
It pains me to be the guy who has to ask, but Napolitano was clearly a political appointment, and none of this was done by accident. What group was her appointment a present to?
I gotta say, given her appearance, this was a political appointment made to appease the gay lobby in the Dem party.
The reason it pains me to make this observation is that last thing our country needs is more acrimony between gays and conservatives. I’m primarily a libertarian, and don’t care who marries who, because you’ll not find the word marriage in the constitution.
That said, this is a political appointment of a person clearly not fit for the job.
#47 BB, your comment is essentially stating that Bush’s response is the correct one and that Obama ought to have waited at leas 6 similar days to comment. Why do you think that a week’s delay is correct?
#40 Rachel Peepers – Michelle’s physique is not relevant. What is relevant is that Obama does not develop any policies or programs on his own; he is intellectually totally empty. His immediate influences are the women in his life; his governing influences are the radical socialists who run Obama as their puppet and are attempting to set up a statist structure in the US.
BC – Obama is NOT going after Al Qaeda. He is actually inciting Al Qaeda to attack the US because he denies their existence.
He has refused to recognize them as a terrorist group with a military agenda against the US. His change of term from ‘war on terror’ to ‘overseas contingency operation’ removes Al Qaeda as an active agent in any attacks. His refusal to call terrorist attacks as such, but redefinig them as ‘man-caused disasters’ akin to accidents …removes Al Qaeda as an intentional agent in these attacks.
His redefining them as, not members of a militant group, but as ‘isolate individuals’ is a provocation to Al Qaeda because it declares that they don’t exist as a group nor as an ideology. His insistence that they be tried as criminals rather than in a military court further denies their militant exisence.
By Obama’s refusal to recognize their real existence – a psychological problem with him -in that Obama cannot acknowledge the existence of anyone whom he cannot control and manipulate into adulation – Obama is provoking AlQaeda to PROVE they exist, by more attacks against the US.
Furthermore, the weakening of security and surveillance is a direct result of Obama and his administration’s refusal to acknowledge the reality and real hostile intentions of Al Qaeda. Security are now too hindered by Obama’s rejection of such intentions to test everyone, to suspect any and all..and are letting people through that they would not have done before.
To Samizdat: You and the other right wing numbnuts have never offered up one shred of *real* evidence to back up any of your whiny little complaints about Obama. All it’s been, even before he was elected, is no more than childish, idiotic, and bitter rubbish. Likewise you guys have no friggin clue about how much of a mess Bush left things – an awful lot of good people left government during Bush’s years, a lot of agencies got overpopulated with useless people, and an awful lot government work got offloaded to the likes of Blackwater.
At this point in Bush’s presidency, we were still recovering from the worst and most successful terrorist attack in US history. And the guy behind it is still on the loose (despite right wing fantasies about him being already dead or spending his remaining days in a dark cave somewhere.)
The Narcissist in Chief is not cool, he is indifferent. Indeed, had 300 innocent people been massacred on that flight over Detroit, Barack Obama would have given exactly the same speech but as a sign of confidence Janet Napolitano would have been promoted to Defense Secretary.
And to think that this phone call wasn’t even at three o’clock in the morning.
What group was her appointment a present to?
Illegal immigrants ?
It really peeves me that so many appointments (including ambassador-ships) are done as a function of political favor as opposed to knowledge, background & competence.
I guess the unelected, unreviewed “czars” as well as the immediate coterie (David Axelrod has referred to “how WE govern”) really call the shots.
Obama has stuffed his cabinet and high-ranking advisory posts with leftist political ideologues, incompetents, Chicago cronies and the Beltway’s “usual suspects”. Few of the visible appointees appear up to the task so you can only imagine the proficiency level of their respective deputies and subordinates. I shudder to think what it would be like to be a capable, apolitical career civil servant and be forced to adapt to and follow the amateurish policies and procedures implemented by Obama’s clownish, dim-witted political appointees.
BC – could you provide some real evidence that Bin Laden is still alive, as you assert?
Also, could you explain how Bush ’caused’ 9/11, rather than Clinton’s similar-to-Obama’s refusal to recognize the reality and hostile agenda of Al Qaeda despite all the pre-Bush attacks?
54. ETAB:
#47 BB, your comment is essentially stating that Bush’s response is the correct one and that Obama ought to have waited at leas 6 similar days to comment.
No, I didn’t say that at all. I said people didn’t complain when Bush delayed and yet they complain now when Obama delayed. Double standard on it s face.
Walt B at 43,
Excellent logical analysis. BC’s “argument” at #26 follows along and down the slippery slope you so clearly point out.
Yup, your right BC, its the legislation’s author or the President who signed it into law years before who is responsible, not the agency in charge of executing it’s requirements years latter under a different administration. Makes a lot of logical sense, doesn’t it?
Walt B I’m sure you agree, it’s all about tranfering blame and evading responsibility with this sorry crowd of snivelers. Once they get in the big leagues, they discover they aren’t up to the task of owning and leading. They are constitutionally incapable of accepting responsibility for the consequences of their own theories and decisions. Hence when things go wrong they blame Bush. It’s a personality disorder.
And they wonder why President Golfs Alot is the least popular President at this point in his term in modern history and why only 20% of American’s identify themselves as liberals.
@47
No, I will not stop advocating for family values!
You will notice a singular difference between the liberals and conservatives; conservatives criticize those who deserve it regardless of political stripe!
Rove deserves condemnation for his part in the failure of his previous marriages. I said it and I stand by what I say. There have been assorted conservatives who did not uphold the standards we conservatives try to live by and we’ve taken action against SOME of them.
When was the last time the liberals criticized anyone in their camp for their lack of moral standards? Is it because the liberals HAVE NO morals? YES! That’s it!
Don’t preach to us until you’ve cleaned your own house! I recommend a front-end loader, a roll-off dumpster and five or six guys with big shovels! It’s gonna’ take a LOT of work!
Samizdat @ #34: In your (well-deserved)criticism of BC @ #14, you make an excellent point. We have all these government agencies that have proven to be incompetent in protecting us. Now, what they’ve done for defense, they want to do for medicine. I am sure BC will defend that as well.
If we can’t catch a Nigerian with a powerful explosive powder in his oddly feminine-looking underpants and a syringe full of acid, a man whose own father had alerted the U.S. Embassy in Nigeria, a traveler whose ticket was paid for in cash and who didn’t check bags, whose visa renewal had been denied by the British, who had studied Arabic in Al Qaeda sanctuary Yemen, whose name was on a counterterrorism watch list, who can we catch?
Never thought I’d be quoting Maureen Dowd
To ETAB: Well, aside from there being squat and diddly for evidence for him being dead, there is this and this.
And as far as Bush and 9/11 goes, there is this and this.
BC#66 – audio recordings are not evidence for Bin Laden’s current existence. He hasn’t been seen, in the flesh, for a decade. Try again.
And Clinton’s rejection of Al Qaeda as anything more than a ‘few criminals’ despite the attacks that took place during his presidency – and his lack of putting in place a clear security ‘fence’ – led to 9/11.
#61 – BB, you didn’t say that, but your comment implies it. After all, talking about a double standard is irrelevant without considering which standards are valid. Should a president respond immediately after an attack against Americans, or wait: 3 days or 6 days? Or?
Equally, one could argue that the attacks on Bush, with comparisons of him to Hitler etc, were never condemned by the Liberal media; however, any references to Obama as ‘The Joker’ etc..are instantly jumped on.
The Democrats were constant in their attacks against Bush, but when centrists criticize Obama in Town Halls and Tea Parties, the attacks against such event, by Democrats, are vicious (un-American, Nazis, teabaggers, etc).
So – if you want to focus on this type of comparison, you ought to broaden your data base to a fuller examination…or you’ll be seen as biased.
“We need someone who’s willing to fight.”
Uh, Pammy, in case you haven’t noticed it, we’ve got two wars cookin’ at the moment.
And never mind Bush’s Katrina flub, he also dropped the ball prior to 9/11 — and tried to cover it up by classifying the CIA memo that warned him al qaeda was about to strike.
Happy New Year!
It’s clear that Obummer just did not see the “exploding pants” threat that others saw. Now if the person had been white and sitting next to someone he cares about, say Oprah, then it would have only taken a day for him to respond and condemn the would be bomber in harsh terms. The day delay would be what was needed to set up the prime time press conference. I admit I have not read the books that were written by Ayers so I’m no expert on the Prez and what he really thinks–my best guess is BHO’s view of America is closer to the underwear bomber’s than mine. Heck, I live in fly over country and even I know *the enemy* is not Fox News.
Katrina was failure at the state and local level people. It wasn’t Bush’s job to fix things then nor could he do much until the state governor declared she wanted help. She didn’t do that for days.
68. Zeke:
Actually we’ve got one war because Bush won the war in Iraq with the Surge. Here’s to hoping that the Tent Revival Con Man can Catch some of the humility that Bush had to learn the hard way, before there is a more painful lesson to be learned.
BC,
Get your finger out of your eye.
You boys are running the whole show now. You boys control all of the levers of executive and legislative power, yet you can’t take responsibility for governing and protecting the citizenry from Islamic killers. These are your agencies now, CIA, State, and Homeland Security, and you are responsible for their effective governance. They screwed up and failed to do their jobs on your boy wonder’s watch.
You best get a hold of yourself, put Rules for Radicals back on the shelf, and start leading quick. Ego stroking and petting the killers doesn’t seem to have sated them as you promised us it would.
I thought the world was supposed to love us now, the seas were supposed to recede, and the planet was supposed to heal. That’s what candidate Obama told us would happen in Berlin Germany 2008. Goes to show how wrong you can be.
Once again, thanks for foisting this clueless college prof on the rest of us while telling us what a great President he would be. If you want to go sulk somewhere, try the Huff Po, it’s about your speed. And take your other little sniveling troll friends with you.
Cheney’s full statement:
“As I’ve watched the events of the last few days it is clear once again that President Obama is trying to pretend we are not at war. He seems to think if he has a low-key response to an attempt to blow up an airliner and kill hundreds of people, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gives terrorists the rights of Americans, lets them lawyer up and reads them their Miranda rights, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if we bring the mastermind of Sept. 11 to New York, give him a lawyer and trial in civilian court, we won’t be at war.
“He seems to think if he closes Guantanamo and releases the hard-core Al Qaeda-trained terrorists still there, we won’t be at war. He seems to think if he gets rid of the words, ‘war on terror,’ we won’t be at war. But we are at war and when President Obama pretends we aren’t, it makes us less safe. Why doesn’t he want to admit we’re at war? It doesn’t fit with the view of the world he brought with him to the Oval Office. It doesn’t fit with what seems to be the goal of his presidency — social transformation — the restructuring of American society. President Obama’s first object and his highest responsibility must be to defend us against an enemy that knows we are at war.”
Jack in Silver Springs at 64,
Thank you for your supportive statement. By the way, I screwed up and referenced BC at 14. He actually posted at 26. My fault for the confusion.
BC is making a big deal out of Bush not killing Old Sammy the Batch Man.
Hey BC, here’s to Obama finding the miserable Wazeristan palace the louse is holed up in and ordering a Hellfire be put through said palace window. I hope said Hellfire immolates Old Sammy, all of his fawning lieutenants, and his protectors. And I would be glad to give Obama credit.
Samizdat @ #74: Thank you. For your comment @ #72, just want to acknowledge a point made by Bill Kristol today over at the Weekly Standard in a blog titled: “Kristol: Obama Can Still Designate Abdulmutallab An Enemy Combatant.” The reason all these spy agencies are falling down on the job may have something to do with how the Administration has demoralized them. Holder’s jihad on the CIA (despite POUTUS’ earlier promise that they were safe) is singularly to blame here (and as Harry Truman realized, the buck stops with the POTUS and not his underlings). So, if you were a CIA agent today, why would you work your buns off defending your country when you might be facing a frivolous indictment for having defended your country.
http://truthandcommonsense.com/2009/12/30/glenn-becks-guest-host-misses-the-point-churches-are-a-heck-of-a-good-soft-target/
I wrote a quick post about a conversation Beck’s guest host had with a caller warning about churches being a potential soft target. The guest host, Pat Grey, dismissed him out of hand. He shouldn’t have. Religious sites of all kinds have been targeted, especially in the Middle East and Indonesia. I linked to a very graphic site that has videos of some of the school children killed my Islamic terrorists.
My point is that even as we worry about the latest attack I have to wonder why we aren’t suffering more soft target assaults. It doesn’t make sense as it seems something is holding them back. I wonder if Bush’s first reaction after 9-11 left an impression with the political arm of the jihadists. Maybe getting whacked across two nations and ending up hiding in caves while bombs fell all around them encouraged them to make a note to themselves about going too far. Certainly, with our open society, it can’t be our vaunted security organizations. They are limited by PC, civil rights and basic bureaucratic incompetence.
Truth is Tom Clancy dealt with this directly years ago in a novel called “Teeth of the Tiger”. Back then, I was working and knew that a lot of what Clancy was writing could very easily come true. Why it hasn’t stumps me.
I believe part of the hesitation to attack us on a large scale again, like a mall or a church or a school (Belsen type attack) is that they were afraid of what we might do. Sure there are limits, we bombed Afghanistan and many said, “Why try to bomb a country back into the ninth century when they are already there? To which I say, fine, we’ll bomb them into the seventh century so they get the point and dammit, it makes me feel better. I also think many of the leaders of the states that encourage the pinprick attacks against the West learned a valuable lesson when the rope snapped Saddam’s neck. Even a dictator likes waking up in the morning and not finding a soldier from the 101st airborne standing over him with an M4 pointing at his head.
However, Obama’s new approach of “reset” may be troublesome if the bad guys get the idea all the risk has been removed. Honestly, if the worst than can happen to them after killing hundreds or thousands of Christian churchgoers is they get arrested and then assigned a lawyer, what is the downside?
Obama needs to take heed here. He could really screw this up, royally.
Archer52 at 76,
You have fingered the threat exactly, in a word it’s Beslan.
It would be so easy for the Rad Islamists to arm up with a few semi automatic rifles and attack a school or a church. By the time a SWAT response could be organised and executed hundreds would be dead. This has already happened, and I can’t understand why it hasn’t occured since Beslan. Of course it doesn’t help the public relations effort of the killer Islamists when they do something like that, and in certain US communities the killers might meet Allah in a quick hurry because the locals are better shots than they are. Maybe that’s why it hasn’t been used more frequently.
Still given the mind set of Al queda, it is surprising that the Beslan strategy hasn’t been deployed more frequently.
Dear Liberals:
If this breakdown is not the “poster child” for government incompetenece I don’t know what is. However not to fear wait until they get hold of your healthcare and 20% of the US economy. Look at what is happening now to get a GOOD IDEA of government credibility and job performance. National security is the business government SHOULD be involved with in a very clear way and look at how they screw it up beyond recognition. Can’t handle a file with 500,000 names? How about 300 million people trying to get healthcare out of these boobs!!
You liberals are full of crap. You elected this total idiot and it will not stand. Americans will not tolerate these idiots forever. It is time get rid of these loosers in 2010 as many as we can and send the big O packing in 2012. In one short year he has become the worst president in US history.
Fed Up Yet?

Thanks for making my day.The food and coffee imagery was priceless.
I have noticed less and less troll traffic over the last few weeks re a variety of topics. The One is getting harder and harder to defend as he becomes more isolated from the wishes of the American people and repeatedly demonstrates his incompetence for all to see. Obama is still smarting from the rebuke he suffered in Copenhagen at he hands of the Chinese Premier. Who would have ever believed a Chinese commie would be a better friend to American business than a US President? AGW, what an unproveable joke!
For the good of the country he needs to grow up. Growing a pair would also help.

@26 BC
You should checked your facts before crafting that dumb second paragraph. You appear as loony as Ron Paul – Following is from HOT AIR website. Note second point.
Ron Paul on the airline plot: “They’re terrorists because we’re occupiers!”posted at 10:00 pm on December 29, 2009 by Allahpundit
Share on Facebook | printer-friendly I’ve already written about how his isolationist garbage leads inexorably to nonsense like this, so let me just add two points. First, and most obviously, there is no U.S. occupation of Yemen or Nigeria. The only way the airline plot is a reaction to U.S. “occupation” is if you accept the jihadist premise that there are no Arab/Muslim nation-states but rather only one Islamic caliphate waiting to be born. Only in that way does the U.S. occupation of Iraq warrant a reprisal from, say, a Pakistani or Yemeni. And yet, needless to say, if Britain was attacked tomorrow and Obama pledged U.S. forces to assist in the reprisal, Paul would be the first guy to scream that we should scrupulously observe national boundaries and not go fighting another country’s battles for it.
Second, as usual, his facts are wrong. He uncritically accepts Abdulmutallab’s assertion that the bomb plot was retaliation for the U.S. airstrike on jihadi camps in Yemen. Not so: As Jake Tapper explained yesterday, this turd had already been mobilized and had even bought his Northwest ticket before we struck. Purely and simply, America’s Greatest Patriot is parroting propaganda cooked up by jihadist pieces of sh*t because it happens to fit his insane foreign policy agenda. Support him and his disciples at your peril.
To Samizdat: Unfortunately Obama has to deal with these primitive, Orc-like creatures called Republicans and right wingers who seem to serve no purpose in life besides trying to be a pain.
To paul_unalaska: would you prefer I link to stuff like this instead, given your obvious insightful points?
troll plague …yeeech
The big thing about Barack Obama is not this or that is umprecedented, but that he is unpresidentual.
BC,
You convey a feeble understanding of international relations with each post you type.
I don’t know about Republicans, they are on their own, but I know that conservatives believe in the teachings of Jefferson, Madison, Franklin, Friedman and Laffer. We also believe in science, which your pals in Copenhagen showed a distinct disrespect for.
You have conveyed through dozens of postings that you are a Fabian socialist and are troubled by freedom. Your hero is in charge now and he is proving, so far, not to be up to the task. You predicted his greatness. I predicted his incompetence, along with his Marxism. The only move he has made in a year that caught me by surprise was his retention of Gates as Secdef.
You are uncomfortable with your presidential choice, he is damaging the credibility of your political credentials. I was perfectly happy to castigate Bush when he screwed the pooch, which was often, he wasn’t a conservative. Good luck living with the consequences of your naive foolish choices. You are stuck with President Not Ready for Prime Time and your sychophantic support.
You should be very thankful for the passenger who tackled the 253 bomber. If the plane had gone down, your hero would be busy explaining away his responsibility for the deaths of 300 people.
I hope you can live with your conscience.
OBAMA IS A TRAITOR: IMPEACH OBAMA NOW: HIS NEGLIGENCE AND INCOMPETENCE WILL GET MANY AMERICANS KILLED, AND CAUSE UNTOLD DAMAGE TO THE UNITED STATES.
85. BC:Unfortunately Republicans have had to deal with an effeminate, socialist-like creature called “Barack Obama” whose previous purpose in life was turning tricks for a slumlord, but that’s all in the past since he got promoted to Messiah.
To Curtis M: Sorry, I forgot that right wingers hate context — the key point was that Obama ordered the drone attacks just after he took office: check the date on that Times article, Sherlock. If Obama was really continuing Bush’s policy, he would invade Syria or some other random place. No, Obama — unlike Bush — seriously started going after al-Qaeda.
This whole episode must be really stinging Obama and buddies. The leftist trolls are out in force trying to help them cover it up.
The year 2009 …. ends on a particularly sour note with al-Qaeda’s “attempted” bombing of an American airliner ….
Wrong!
… 2009 …. ended with al-Qaeda’s SUCCESSFUL bombing of an American airliner ….
Only the bomb failed — and if we are incapable of getting that simple fact right, whatever descends from our point of departure also fails.
As is evident from the stumble-bum floundering around of the feral gummint’s every for-decades-already tightly and fascistically Hitler’s little helper, Soros and Socialist International-International-supporting “Democratic” potty-activist owned, operated and controlled agency, bureau, “service” and/or department. Whose “collectivist-ly” vested interest, lest we forget, is in America’s failure — and in their using our every failure and every thus “Democratic” potty created “crisis,” to accelerate and to advance their Socialist International-serving march toward and imposition of totalitarian tyranny.
84. Which is why I think Ron Paul would make a great Treasury Secretary, but I wouldn’t dare vote for him for President.
I knew when this clown was elected that it was gonna be bad but I never would have thought it would be this bad and this soon. Obama has at least warranted that Jimmy Carter is no longer the worst president in my life time if not this countries history. Obama is now officially the worst ever!
Those that still support or seem to are just trying to save face with irrational rationalizations and it is simply not working. One thing is certain I hope for a change to get rid of this goon as soon as possible either with a new congress that is sane that will at least oppose him and at best will impeach him in 2011!
Be careful this guys mind could really snap. He is hanging by one fingernail from brink of a nervous breakdown.
Lets all talk softly and be real nice to Barry and hopefully we can hold together 3 more years
To Samizdat: As far as I can see, the only “feeble understanding” is by you and the other right wing numbnuts who obviously didn’t have a clue what was going on when Bush was President, and remarkably seem to have even less with Obama. Perhaps you should engage in online arguments more suited to your understanding of how things work.
97. BC:
You understand that the drone attacks and small scale raids have been happening for a long time before Obama became president… right?
As far as the name calling goes, your effeminate weakling of a president is a poo poo head.
What is amazing about this story is that once again a failure of communication between government agencies has led to a security breach (and, apparently, to politicians not being properly briefed after the fact). So what to do now? Create another umbrella agency to coordinate? Like the DHS and CIA before it? Maybe just call it the Umbrella Agency – then, when the next snafu happens there can be a super-umbrella agency, then a super-super-umbrella agency, and so on.
I was listening to a bunch of “spycast” podcasts over xmas (from the spy museum in DC – it’s an interesting series of interviews). It’s amazing how often the problem of inter-agency communication seems to have let down the side.
Watch lists aside, it is interesting that this guy got on to a plane with explosives on his body. That’s pretty spectacular – and most of the egg isn’t on american faces.
93. Brian Richard Allen:
… 2009 …. ended with al-Qaeda’s SUCCESSFUL bombing of an American airliner ….
Does that mean that the shoe bomber was successful, too? If so, then we WERE attacked during Bush Cheney, contrary to the claims of conservatives. Just trying to get a handle on your standard here.
To baal: What you and the others seem to be stubbornly in denial about is that Bush let things slip badly in Afghanistan and that his latter military operations were more like sticking fingers in a leaking dike, and even then, they were mostly done during his last months in office; whereas under Obama military operations quickly became far more serious and widespread.
Not use to having grown-ups run things, eh?
Obama really needs to give his intelligence people a little slack. After all, they were just following his cue on decision-making. They have been pondering for the past several months as to whether this Nigerian was a real threat or not. They would have made a decision by at least February. Why is Obama in such a snit about this and why does he want an answer from them right now about went wrong? The American people gave him three or four months to make a decision on Afghanistan.
The most rational approach to managing a wannabe jihadist who flubs his mission is to keep him alive, and publicly abase and humiliate him. And be certain that his brethren across the seas get a glimpse of their fate should they choose the same path. Trying and jailing these would-be martyrs is merely an incentive since it presents them with a public forum.
Take a look at Toby Harnden of the Telegraph: http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/tobyharnden/100020934/barack-obama-gets-an-f-for-protecting-americans/
Does Obama have what it takes to stop them? I hate to say no, but that’s what it looks like from my little corner of the world. And it’s damn scary.”
I have no problem saying EMPHATICALLY NO!!! He not only does not have what it takes to fight for us; he completely lacks the perception that such fighting is his job. He’d rather use the free pass American voters have given him to dismantle all that the US is. Consequently, the traitor-in-chief that resides in the White House consistently displays a blatantly ongoing aversion to US wellbeing, US sovereignty, US homeland security… or anything pro-US.
GET THE PICTURE, FOLKS! obama is completely incapable of protecting US interests of ANY sort, only because he is determined to bankrupt the US of those qualities that made the global community respect us. Now we are on a fast track to becoming a laughingstock, a whipping boy to our enemies.
For the first time in the history of our country, the most corrupt administration and the worst administration are one and the same.
OBAMA profile—–1/ narcissist-looks into the mirrow an tells himself, ( i am the chosen one) 2/ extend his hand—IRAN< RUSSIA< NORTH KOREAwillnot admit we are at war with his muslim terrorise brothers. 4> BLAME GAME–blame BUSH, teaparties, vets, etc, anyone that willnot agree with him. 5> ASSOCIATIONS> child molestor, racist, socialist, ceiminals, tax cheats, etc, 6> union thugs> give them everything they want, over over. THE LIST COULD GO ON @ ON. WEAK< WEAK CHILD, THAT WILL NEVER GROWUP.
i am not very good at this, i dont understand what awaiting moderation means. if i made mistakes, please someone tell me what i did wrong and i will do my best to fix it. thank you,
great site. enjoy the comments.
BO has shown himself to be a self centered prick. Noughf said.
It seems like most people commenting here just assume that “the Won” is playing for our team, but is just too dumb a schmuck to do a good job of it.
Consider, though, what if he is actually playing for the other team, because, if so, he really is doing a great and effective job.
P.S. Hiding out in Hawaii for a week, playing 5 hours worth of golf each dsy, plus tennis, some beach time, and no doubt happy hour and great food too–all in a multi-million dollar mansion–is a nice touch. Some in the MSM, I notice, have seen that “the Won” seems tired and careworn, no doubt, by all the responsibilities of his Office that he is not taking care of.
But, But, But, But, But:
“If so, then we WERE attacked during Bush Cheney, contrary to the claims of conservatives. Just trying to get a handle on your standard here”
The standard for what counts as “terrorism” seems to depend entirely on when it happened and who you’re asking. Apparently, fort hood was terrorism, but columbine wasn’t. This latest attempt is terrorism, but an organized campaign of posting antrax wasn’t. A muslim running people over with a vehicle is terrorism (only after 2008), but a nutjob assassinating a doctor in a church or attacking a biomedical researcher in his home isn’t. The way wingnuts see things right now, any act of violence perpetrated by a muslim against westerners, for whatever reason, is terrorism – but not anything else, and not if it happened between 2001 and the end of 2008.
But that doesn’t actually matter anyway – because there WERE, in fact, officially-designated acts of terrorism during bush’s term. So the claim that the US did not experience a terrorism attack on bush’s watch is provably wrong. One was the 2002 LA airport shooting:
http://archives.cnn.com/2002/US/09/04/lax.shooting/index.html
And the jury in one of the beltway sniper murder cases accepted that the shooter had committed an act of terrorism:
http://www.nytimes.com/2005/04/23/national/23sniper.html
In my pointless quest to try to explain that terrorism actually means something, here’s the link to the section of the criminal code that defines a terrorist act:
http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/uscode/18/I/113B/2331
Just killing people (even spectacularly) doesn’t make it terrorism. Doing it because you’re mad about a cause doesn’t do it either. Even killing “in the name of religion” (whatever that means) isn’t terrorism. Violence as such is not terrorism. What makes it terrorism is when it’s an attempt to cause a concrete policy change through violent coercion or intimidation – i.e. when it’s a military/political tactic. Violent extremism is bad, absolutely, we can all agree about that. But not all of it is terrorism, and it’s possible to agree when an act is abhorrent without overusing (and misusing) the one word that anybody can think of.
One of bush’s many FUBARs is that he trashed his nation’s vocabulary for dealing with world affairs. “Terrorism” is now just a way of labeling an act or group (usually muslim) as “the worst of the worst”, not to mention “not like us” (because we don’t engage in terror, obviously – calls from this lot to bomb cities back into the stone age to influence foreign actors’ policies notwithstanding).
