Obama’s Second, and Continuing, Big Lie

The administration’s 2010 rules were written to undermine employer-provided insurance as well.

By now, thanks to the hundreds of thousands of insurance cancellation notices that have been sent, it is well known that President Obama’s repeated assurances that if you like your current insurance and doctor you can keep them were not true.

And thanks to the recent reporting of CNN (where were they and the other media three years ago, when we needed them?), more people will realize that shortly after the passage of Obamacare the Obama administration implemented rules specifically designed to ensure that millions of people — those who provided for themselves on the individual market, i.e., who did not receive coverage through their employer or union — would not be allowed to keep their current insurance. Thus not only were Obama’s assurances untrue; they were purposeful deceit in which a supine press was complicit.

Actually, not “were” but “are,” since Obama has not acknowledged their inaccuracy, although the White House does now admit that a paltry 5% of the population who were so gullible as to buy what they mistakenly thought was insurance from “bad apple” insurers may have to “shop around” in the wonderful new exchanges he has created.

In a Friday (Nov. 1) press conference, Jay Carney insisted that “only a fraction of the population, estimated to be five percent, might end up losing their existing health insurance,” and in a Boston appearance two days earlier the president was, as usual, even more expansive in praise of his own creation.

One of the things health reform was designed to do was to help not only the uninsured but also the underinsured. And there are a number of Americans, fewer than 5 percent of Americans, who’ve got cut-rate plans that don’t offer real financial protection in the event of a serious illness or an accident.

Now if you had one of these substandard plans before the Affordable Care Act became law and you really liked that plan, you were able to keep it. That’s what I said when I was running for office.

That was part of the promise we made.

Actually, as everyone who has heard the nearly endless loop of Obama’s “you can keep them” assurances and received or heard of all the cancellation letters must know by now, that was no part of the promise that Obama made.

What everyone does not know — because it has not been widely reported  — is that in attempting to respond to the “you can keep them” lie the White House has been repeating a second big lie  just as serious as the first: that “only a fraction of the population” (Carney), “fewer than 5 per cent” (Obama), are the only victims, that the  approximately 80% who get their insurance from their employer, union, or government program will in fact be able to keep their insurance.

No, they will not, and the administration and its Democratic supporters know they will not. Although recent attention has been focused on all the individual insurance holders losing coverage, the administration’s 2010 rules were written to undermine employer-provided insurance as well. John Hinderaker of the Powerline blog has looked at those rules and found that the intent was clear:

The bottom line is that the administration expected 51% of all employer plans to be terminated as a result of Obamacare. That is the mid-range estimate; the high-end estimate was 69%. So as of 2010, the Obama administration planned that most Americans with employer-sponsored health care plans would lose them, whether they liked those plans or not….

The administration never intended to allow any American to keep a non-Obamacare insurance policy for any length of time.

In September 2010, CNN has reported, Republicans in the Senate introduced legislation to reverse the new regulations. Hinderaker quotes Wyoming Senator Mike Enzi’s introductory comments pointing out that that the new regs made a lie of Obama’s “you can keep them” promise, for those on employer-provided as well as individual plans. “The regulation,” Sen. Enzi stated, “is crystal clear. Most businesses — the administration estimates between 39 and 69 percent — will not be able to keep the coverage they have.”

Not just that, but you end up being a chump. Just like those of us who didn't buy houses we couldn't afford, do actually live within our means, don't go in to debt to buy the fanciest car. And the people who don't live providently get bailed out. Crazy.

Greywolf125 - Do you have a point? I'm not sure what you are getting at, you did not make it clear and we can't read your mind.

I was not a supporter of the war in Iraq, but Bush did not "lie". His statements were necessarily based upon the sum of the intelligence available at the time (which, if you are not aware, is not the same as factual knowledge) and based on information from informants and spys and such as was available to American intelligence functions. Further all but one Democrat (if memory serves) agreed with Bush by virtue of their vote to go to war with Iraq.

Obama had and has full and complete access to the actual hard data on Obamacare from day one. No Republicans voted for Obamacare. Further, Obama's had complete and utter control over Obamacare from inception. If Obama does not understand the key aspects, drivers, outcomes and status of his signature endeavor, it's because he doesn't want to know, or is incapable of functioning as an executive manager.. most likely, both.

So again, what is your point?

Consider the maligned 5% of policyholders in the individual market. These are the people who used their own, after tax dollars to buy what policies they could afford in order to avoid becoming the dreaded "free riders." Those acting responsibly are the first to be punished.

FYI Unless you have negotiated with your employer for benefits, you cannot call it "your" plan. The question is not whether you can keep your plan but whether your employer will be able to afford to offer you any plan.

So basically, not only was obamas "you can keep it" a known baldfaced lie, but it has been replaced with yet another baldfaced lie, that only 5% are affected. When the truth is once the business mandate kicks in next year that 5% will rise well above 50%. Its getting pretty bad when we not only get lies, but lies about the lies.
I just thought of another thing. Considering that some of these cancelled plans are resulting in cancer victims not getting treatment, eventually some of those people are going to end up dying. Dems beat us over the head for years with "Bush lied, people died" even thugh Bush did not actually lie. Now is it our turn to be constantly saying "Obama lied, people died".

You may be an Obama supporter, but are you really willing to support others who will be given your tax money to provide them with health insurance? Your rates go up to support them and your annual deductible amount goes up, too. This isn’t for a single year, but will go on forever if obamacare is not repealed. Since the Democrats will not join the effort, join with us in voting Republican to get enough people in office who want to repeal the law. Vote your pocketbook, not some ideology you have accepted. Remember, it’s your money. This situation is hardly different from being assigned to support an illegal alien.

I seem to recall the Dems whining about "Cadillac" health care plans while ramming the ACA down our throats way back in 2009. Apparently, a plan that provided gold-plated coverage was evil, sort of like Hitler or leprosy.

Now, people are losing their bare bones policies and forced to buy more expensive policies that cover things like breast exams and pap smears for me, and prostate exams and hair regeneration therapy for women.

Ignorance is strength. War is peace. Freedom is slavery. Obamacare is Affordable Care.

But the union cadallac plans are immune, as are federal workers and politicians. Obama and the dems always take care of their cronies.

Obama's intention is to dismantle and destroy the entire insurance industry. Think about that. Maybe health insurance is just the first step, but that is still a lot of people who will find themselves unemployed in a few years. So, if he can dismantle that so easily (no one was outraged when his first action in office was to take over the auto industry and take peoples car lots from them to give to their competitors) why not auto and home insurance?

This IS big C communism.

RE: Union Insurance Plans being exempt. My Individual HIPPA Plan that I CHOSE, (from United Healthcare), will be LONG GONE after 12/31/13, so I have started calling insurance companies to see what is out there (& to avoid both the non-functioning Obamacare website AND the equally non-functioning NV Silver State Exchange). Here in Las Vegas I have seen T.V. Commercials for a NEW insurance company that is a "co-op", so I thought I would check it out. "Nevada Health Co-op" is run by the "Culinary Union" it turns out. Their plans look good, & their commercials mention that this is insurance that is equalivalent to the quality of the insurance provided by the Culinary Union. I said to the CSR "This must be good insurance, because the Culinary Union gets what the Culinary Union wants". She EMPHATICALLY agreed with my statement, which I floated as a "test balloon"...HUM. So...I have NO IDEA YET which Insurance Company I will buy from yet, but I found it MOST INTRIGUING that Unions can now go into the Insurance biz, offering Insurance to everyone...NOT JUST Union Members!! On a side note, ANY PLAN I purchase will include "Maternity Care" for this 61 year-old woman whose had a hysterectomy...WTF????

Yes... And where were/are the Republicans to tell America that Obama, his Weathmen Communists and their pocket protector media...we're/are INTENTIONALLY lying to us?

Who is protecting the Constition? Who is protecting our liberties? Who is protecting our information stream?

They are all under assault...and the Republicans are cowering in a corner...and only come out to snarl at Ted Cruz.

"Who is protecting the Constitution?...". WE ARE...welcome to the Libertarian Party!! Now if you "Republi-crats" will STOP bellyaching about YOUR PET rights & ignoring the rights of others & agree with us that ALL our Constitutionally guaranteed rights are worth saving, then and ONLY THEN will we make our voices heard. In the meantime, expect your "Individual Rights" to be trampled on...perhaps your neighbors faves today & your faves won't be affected until tomorrow, but in the end, we will ALL LOSE EVERYTHING, UNLESS YOU ALL WAKE UP!!
