I am offended, just like an old-fashioned feminist. So, I’m sure, is Mother Gaia herself. Offended, because Obama’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has just officially declared carbon dioxide (CO2) to be a poison. (Sigh.)

You can’t even expel air anymore without ticking off our PC commissars.

Did you know you can die from drinking too much distilled water? Or from breathing too much pure oxygen? Oxidation products actually kill people — they cause a huge variety of fatal diseases. The only solution is to stop breathing.

All the molecules of life are also molecules of death. The old medicos used to say, “It’s the dose that makes the poison.” Perfectly safe substances can kill you if you take enough of them, or if you use the wrong channels to put them into your body. Inject fresh mountain air into your veins and you’re dead. You can choke on a nice big vitamin pill.

All substances are potential poisons, but if you’re Obama’s EPA you make it CO2. Wonder why? Because there’s gold in them thar gases. It’s the money, honey. But is there just a miniscule amount of CO2 bubbling through the atmosphere? How much are we talking about here?

Only a third of the American population still believes that humans are causing “global warming” — which never existed, of course. That’s after decades of screaming headlines by the wall-to-wall media, a thousand lying sob stories about polar bears drowning on melting ice floes, a million brainwashed school teachers, tens of millions of brainwashed kids, and a determined effort by the international Left to move heaven and earth — or at least the UN — to peddle the warming lie. I wonder why they want us to believe so desperately?

If only a third of the people are now convinced, that’s a victory for common sense. Two thirds of the adults never surrendered to the biggest brainwash in history. But almost half the political class claims to believe in the Big Global Warming Lie, according to Rasmussen. Of course the political class tells lies just for practice, so we don’t know what they really believe. Charles De Gaulle noted that politicians (like himself) tell so many lies that they soon lose track of what’s true. In our age journalists are pure political animals and have no idea what’s true or not. It’s not their department. They don’t have the intellectual equipment to figure it out. Journalism schools only accept kids who have flunked out of education classes. As long as it makes a headline they’re happy.

It’s up to the rest of us to remind people about the difference between truth and lies. Media lies poison the wells of information — and those lies are going to kill us a lot faster than another 0.1% of CO2 in the air. The real danger is the EPA and its mendacious ilk.

Obama’s EPA has become just another part of the Chicago mob. It will demagogue the media according to the prevailing winds. If Obama thinks he can squeeze more billions from the taxpayers, he’ll tell the EPA to peddle the CO2 lie. If not, they will forget about it. But there’s big money in them thar carbon credits, so now CO2 is an official U.S. government poison. Much of the scientific establishment is politicized today, and it will indeed tell lies for money. Have you noticed how quiet the big guns in science have been about all the eco-scams? I wonder why? They are always trying to convince us that smoking is bad, but they are curiously silent in the face of the global warming deception. Interesting, no? In Britain, with socialized medicine having corrupted everything in sight, the medical press routinely peddles hysteria and lies. Mad cow disease led to screaming headlines in the UK for two decades, with tens of thousands of British farmers being forced to slaughter and incinerate their cattle.

umm the mad cow appeared in UK in 1986, the first case in France in 1991

    http://www.inra.fr/dpenv/vfol___2.htm

Funny how our neighbours across the Channel ignore cows metabolism, they believe that they are carnivore, and with their obsession of rentability they even reduce dead animals and overdated fishes into powder, that that no senseful French would imagine to make ; but problem, with the common marcket animals travel too, and often they come on the continent to get slaughtered, before that, they have to pass a few weeks on french field to be labelled french meat, and that was when we couldn’t imagine that they were infected, and thus infected the french cows that had to graze on the same fields, a merchands’ cheating ! but none knew that then, cuz they were supposed to be french cows !

I know a bit of that business I have been working in the import-export office of a slaughtering house for a few months, part of my job consisted to call the UK cattle breedings. I left, I couldn’t bear the atmosphere anylonger.

So, it’s been quite a few years before we could acknoledge the effects of the mad cows ; 139 deads in UK, 22 in France !

Though it’s tue that the French didn’t stop to eat cow brains until it was officially forbidden, but I don’t understand why so many Brits died of ESB, they boil meat !

Cows brains are quite good with a “sauce aux capres”

BTW, we say “le ciel nous tombe sur la tête”

And thisn’t enough see what these enlightened “farmers” chummed out again :

“Researchers from University College Dublin found however, by adding two per cent of fish oil to the animal’s feed the amount of methane is reduced by around a fifth.”

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/earthnews/5070830/Fish-oils-reduce-greenhouse-emissions-from-flatulent-cows.html

these people are sunny side up with their brain !

Actually, if it were possible to eradicate CO2 from the atmosphere (which it isn’t- there are numerous natural sources, even leaving out animal respiration), instead of making us “healthier”, it would just make us… dead.

It takes about 2% CO2 in each lungful of air you inhale to trigger the breathing reflex. Without it, your central nervous system can get a bit confused, and may not send the “breathe!” message to your respiratory system. This, by the way, is true for almost all air-breathing animals, not just humans. (I believe some amphibians, like the African Lungfish, are the only exceptions to the rule among the air-breathing higher vertebrates.)In short, you suffocate.

Add in the role’ of CO2 in photosynthesis (This is why it also known as the “carbon cycle”), and I find myself wondering not only if the “experts” at EPA passed Biology 101, but whether they even took it to begin with.

Well CO2 does start to get toxic until it gets to about 10,000 ppm (1% of gas volume) where it starts to cause headaches and such. The atmospheric concentration is approx 385 ppm by volume. Realistically you could reach this level if you stay in an enclose space without ventilation.

Then again, Oxygen becomes toxic if its its its concentration went up a little more than a factor of two and a half at sea level pressure. That’s why oxygen masks can make people happy and sleepy. Darn those toxin emitting trees!

    Boris,
Ah, you have given me new spring to my step…
You, see, folks, Boris, being new to the PJM boards, hails from an illustrious line of Borises. It was way back in the sixteenth century, in Sevilla, Spain, that Fr. Rodriguez Manuel Boris set the incineration record for most heretics burned in a single year during the Inquisition. A little over a hundred years later, we find his family line unbroken in the New World. After fleeing Spain, ole’ Rodriguez’s great grandson Rodger Nathaniel Boris settled in New England. Using that rapier sharp logic and rational thought that the Boris clan have been renowned for, Nathaniel discovered to his horror that most of the misfortune befalling he and his neighbors was caused by the local coven of witches. With a twinkle in his eye, Nathaniel, like old man Rodriguez, took care of business, nearly surpassing his great gramp’s “burn em’ all” record. Time passes, and as we enter the modern age of Borises, we are pleased to find our very own Boris alive and well. Though, not without that streak of dogmatic obstinance that makes Boris, well, a Boris! You see, it was in the Seventies, and the dawn of the New Ice Age, and Boris, being the proactive Progressive, buys rickets upon rickets of firewood, fourteen propane heaters (when propane was cool, Ok); and builds a greenhouse in his backyard. After this threat passes, Boris gets wind of the coming Acid Rain storm – no problem, nothing that a titanium coated roof won’t take care of. In December 1999, Boris is bang ready – abacus in one hand, candle in the other, Y2K will not set this man back! And now its the age of Global Warming, and Boris is surrounded by an ocean of heretics. Unconsciously, like Dreyfuss in Close Encounters, he finds himself building a huge teepee of kindling in his backyard. Every night, he wakes up at midnight, pours himself a Greentea Chai, and saunters out to his backyard, stands motionless (except for a slightly quivering upper lip) and stares at this unlit pyre until dawn breaks.
The moral of this story- should Boris invite any of you over to his house for a “cookout,” it would be my advice to humbly decline.

  13. 13. Boris

Not heretics, tread, arrogant ignoramuses. Big diff, actually.

  14. 14. RE

This is an Executive Branch attempt to circumvent US Constitution and legislative process in order to impose its will.

I surely hope this travesty is subjected to a Constitutional challenge as it is nothing more than a dishonest power grab.

  15. 15. anton

All this is part of Obama’s lack of any real-world knowledge.

CO2 is a poison? Think about that for just a second, no really, stop and think about the reckless disregard for rational thought that could lead someone to make that statement. This is “Mr Ready To Lead’s” best person for the job and her take is that the one chemical compound that makes life possible on this planet is A POISON!

Without CO2 the Greenie’s much loved rainforest would be nothing but a memory, all those darling Polar Bears would expire because they are at the top of a food-chain that stands on the base of photosynthetic plants.

Are they really so caught up in the political game that they have lost all sight of sanity? Did anybody at the EPA stop and think that plants emit CO2 when in darkness? How are they going to stop that?

These people are complete bozos, the scary part is that the EPA has powers like the IRS. They can just do stuff to you, no trial, no procedure, nothing. Just toe the line or be crushed.

  16. 16. Anonymous

    13:
As opposed to the arrogant (ignore)amuses-us?

Any science that relies on concensus is simply not science.

Although creating huge heat sinks (aka cities) and plundering the planet’s resources is bad enough, attributing climate change to CO2 levels, is simplistic and dishonest…but it will make some money for someone. Justifying energy policy based on national security is more sale-able, but that would politically isolate the greenies from their base constituency.

  17. I think we should declare statists a poison. Well, at least toxic? All democrats do seem to be TSCA positive. Maybe require liberals to wear a hazmat placard and carry the MSDS sheet for liberalism.

Caution – Does not mix with common sense.
Ignition Point – Using logic and reason in a debate, mentioning the 2nd Amendment.
Method of containment – Introduction of cannibus or porn.

    CO2 is a poison.

    From Medicinenet.com

    Definition of Poison
    —————————-
Poison: Any substance that can cause severe distress or death if ingested, breathed in, or absorbed through the skin.

    =======================
If you breath in enough CO2 relative to oxygen the result is death. CO2 is a poison.

    http://www.medterms.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=11890

  21. 21. sumthinnew?

Stop! Think! If the Obama EPA makes it a crime to expel CO2, or more likely tax the poison out of poisons breathing, how will we work and make income that can be taxed? You see the inherent conflict? I predict that in a short time a balance will be achieved between the All Powerful(but supremely beneficent) IRS, and the wanabe all powerful EPA. In time the two taxing bureaucracies will archive a power balance whereby we the unwashed masses and hive workers will be fairly taxed for all activities that pertain to life. Breathing, working, creation of wealth, occupation of space on Mother Gaia, all aspects in a symbiotic relationship of peace, prosperity, and harmony. Wait for it!

  22. 22. JED

In short, this off-set carbon credit and green house gases undeveloped science is a scam for hidden taxes on energy. The enviro lobby kickbacks must have been enormous to the cause. The first problem was that we just thought that their greenie proposals were odd and we ignored them. Whoops, now they are in charge. They won, we lose, go green and invest trillions into unproven experiments.

It is gratifying to see the increasing recognition of the absurdity of AGW (Boris the boring notwithstanding). Today we are told CO2 is a poison, yesterday it was Drudge reporting that fat people were the problem and the latest group to be excoriated by the thought police. The outright incompetence of Obama is exceeded only by the malfeasance and the stupidity of the clowns he has appointed to position of “leadership” in governance. Obama’s administration may be recorded in history as the point where inability was finally elevated to a position of paramount qualification.

  28. 28. djaces

Even at highly elevated levels CO2 is not toxic. The deleterious effects noted as CO2 concentration increases come from the reduction of O2 levels by displacement, not from any toxicity of the CO2. All of this is completely irrelevant, because even if you stipulate to the warmists’ worst case scenarios, the profoundly beneficial effects of maximizing the availability of economical energy overwhelm any negative consequences, http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/04/21/are-todays-poorer-generations-morally-obliged-to-solve-problems-that-may-or-may-not-confront-tomorrows-much-wealthier-generations/. The “carbon problem” doesn’t exist except as a pretext for expanding the reach of the leftist nanny state into every area of human activity. We all best be prepared to do everything in our power to stop this nonsense from being realized, or the America we’ve known and enjoyed the blessings of will no longer exist.

Try Guytons Textbook of Medical Physiology instead of the net. Without CO2 in your body you would hyperventilate and die.
Death by CO2 is like death by the inert gases, which you almost said. That is complete saturation would inhibit 02. The blood and lung gases must work in balance.
CO2 is not a poison and is essential to life on earth.

All this talk about CO2 being poisonous is stupid. There is a chemical that is proven to kill upwards of a hundred thousand people every year, sometimes many more. Even a small amount taken into the lungs is fatal. It is dumped into our lakes, oceans, and rivers in huge amounts every year. It is found at high levels in every food we eat, even the so-called organics, which are supposed to be safer. Yet government will do nothing to stop the pollution of our earth with this killer chemical.

This is a little off topic, but I wanted to share some interesting nostalgia from the original Earth Day celebration. On that day, scientist and climate experts made the following predictions for the year 2000.

    1) 75% to 85% of all the animal species will be extinct.
    2) The world will be 11 degrees cooler in the year 2000.
    3) We are unable to avoid mass starvation and the average age of death will be 41.

Do these predictions remind you of any great sage in our day and time?

  37. 37. Eric

With the EPA’s ruling last week regarding CO2, the odds we will get an economy killing Cap & Trade tax shoved down our throats are significantly higher. How are we to fight back against this menace? One idea I had and shared with my GOP Congressman, John Boozman (R-AR), was an amendment attached to the Waxman/Markey bill, if that’s the carbon tax vehicle of choice, requiring all businesses to add a separate line item on any bill or receipt that explicitly lists the amount of tax imposed from cap & trade. Cap & Trade is not much more than a European style VAT tax applied at every point of production and transportation and therefore should be transparent in prices. Since the Democrats are who they are they will of course oppose this idea because it exposes them, which naturally makes this a good idea. Congress should not be allowed to hide behind the companies that are forced to collect this tax on Congress’ behalf and then jump on the anti-business bandwagon when people take their anger out on their utilities, Big Oil, and everyone else with whom they do business. If this is the path we are being forced to take, let’s at least demand we know who’s doing the driving.

The most volumous greenhouse gas is water vapor. 95% in fact. So, why is CO2 so much more dangerous? This simple fact guts the “CO2 is so dangerous we have to stop humans from producing it” arguement. There is also no measurable baseline for what is “natural” and “unnatural” CO2 generation. So, claiming that what we are producing is “unnatural” is more handwaiving and alarmism.

Breathing will be taxed, except for those imposing the tax. Common sense is a very rare commodity in this world today.

“First they went for the Jews, and then they went for the Catholics. . . .”
Of the list of green house gases that are on the greenie’s hit list of dangerous natural substances with no substantial science, C02 is the first and easiest to attack. Part of the atmospheric C02 is from the combustion of hydrocarbons. Exactly what percent that is remains a good guess.
The most prevalent green house gas is methane. It is the byproduct of swamps and hydro-carbon decay. On that target list is livestock, which contribute a share. The suggested methane-tax rate for livestock is $78/cow, $52, horse, $20/pig. The tax is applied to the producer. Prepare to eat tofu! (Tofu has a carbon and methane footprint as well.)

Global warming…yeah, right. It’s April and still cold in even parts of Arizona.

Liberals and radical environmentalists are masters at deception, distortion and controlling the airwaves and discussion to promote anything green as the solution to what they see as life’s (and America’s) problems.

Look at how they protected and covered up the Earth Day co-founder and convicted murderer, Ira Einhorn, for so many years. Wealthy liberals were paying large sums to defend this guy because he was, like them, radical and non-traditional in thinking. Even after he became a fugitive in Europe after being charged for murder, there was no outrage from the liberal establishment over the deception this man had created.

” my family is taking forced breathing training in berkeley. we will be cutting our breathing by 1/3 to save the planet…don’t laugh at me what are you personally doing? ”

Well, I spent $35,000 on a tracking solar array for my home. Since November of 2008 I have saved 7929 pounds in CO2. Where can I cash that in?

I have a major concern about the extinction of the mosquito. If we are not allowed to exhale CO2, how will the mosquito find us and the other animals for the reproduction. I bet there is a scientific data sheet showing that mosquitoes can not survive on heat sensors, movement and smell alone. Some mosquito traps use CO2 to reproduce breathing that attacks them.

This carbon nonsense is all Bull… I agree it is all about the money what the current administration can suck out of us. How else are they going to recap the trillions they just gave a way??

Corrections for above, My name is Paul not Pau and the mosquito traps use CO2 to attract not attack. Clicked on the wrong spell check item.

  62. plants living without CO2 ? no plants no oxygen ? no oxygen no ice ? CO2 isn’t melting the edges of the ice caps, but low oxygen might as oxygen is released by melting ice, keeping the atmosphere in balance.Humanities CO2 contribution to the 0.03 % of the atmosphere is very low
