Having served in the U. S. Air Force (1968-1972) I got a four year, first hand view of what Washington, DC and the President of the United States REALLY think about those who served OUR country. I always respected my BIG brother who served in the U. S. Marines (1967-1971). We BOTH went to Vietnam, he from 1969-1970, I went as soon as he returned - and was in Vietnam March, 1970-March, 1971 - as a photographer. I "bought" the bull from Washington - until our plane landed in Vietnam. For 365 days I learned that our government lied to all of us, if THEY kept the war going certain people in Texas would make alot of money. At that time in our nation's history - you dare not wear you uniform in public, nor even tell many people you were still in the service. I THINK IF YOU ARE GOING TO BE THE GOVERNOR OF A STATE OR THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - you should at least have been in the United States Army, Air Force, Marines, Navy or Coast Guard for 2 YEARS - that is not asking to much. Go to Basic Training - show US what you are made of, serve overseas somewhere that isn't real comfortable - like in my day Vietnam !! Our current President never served - period. Our country treats our Military troops like 3rd class citizens - when I see 18 and 19 year old "young man or women" who are current members of the Military - with arms and legs missing, it just makes me cry. I did my 1 year in Vietnam and got out - that was 1 tour of duty. Many of our brave Men and Women are doing 2, 3 and 4 tours of duty. All the while they're underpaid, under appreciated, the divorce rate and suicide rate at an all-time high ..... yet many people care more about what celebrity is sleeping with another celebrity, a sports personality is getting paid more per year than over 100 soldiers make in that same year ..... OUR priorities are all screwed up, most but not all of our U. S. Government Senators and Congressmen/Congresswomen only care about getting re-elected. The "nobodies" - that serve are Country are truly OUR heroes - yet our government doesn't pay them enough - as many lose their homes or are in foreclosure -- while AIG is getting ready to give out bonus checks and/or stocks to the same people who got this Country in the horrible mess it is in. Since there is NO DRAFT - WHERE WOULD THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA BE - RIGHT NOW. When I was a kid my church pastor prior to his sermon - would pray for various groups causes, our Military and he would always close the prayer by saving a prayer for President Eisenhower and his staff weather you support them or not. I still pray for the President and his staff. Since this is a site for "military families" and issues - THEY TRULY NEED OUR PRAYERS. Go to a Military hospital and make some friends just visiting, if they are handicapped help them write letters, if they have lost a part of their body - DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO DO - TO HELP THEM OUT. The head honcho. The big man. No matter if he's Democratic or not. The fact that the Democratic Party has contempt for the military is complete crap. Our nation was born out of... oh wait... WAR!!! The Revolution was the event that told the English Crown that we were a legitimate country, and we fought till they caved in. The Medal of Honor recipients showed a courage beyond anyone could ever fathom. They risked their lives for a way of life that anti-war goons take for granted. Some of those men gave their LIVES for their country! And the President does this? Democratic or not, he should be ashamed to call himself the President of the United States of America.
