Obama Pleases His Base by Abandoning Missile Defense in Europe

Is it coincidence that with his domestic agenda stalled, the president takes a step that cheers his liberal supporters?

George H. W. Bush, the next president, was far too gracious toward vanquished liberals. He should have traveled from Maine to California and back again underscoring their failure. But to give the first President Bush his due, perhaps he thought liberal failure was so manifest that it needed no emphasis.

But, today, we find that it did. Liberals have clung to their dogma with the same ferocity that middle Americans cling to their guns and bibles. For liberals, appeasement, under the guise of dialogue, negotiation, and magnanimous concession has never proved lacking. Lessons unlearned are lessons repeated.

But this time, in a world of multiple threats, conventional and unconventional, the reemergence of the liberal rationale and approach to the nation’s enemies, under the guiding hand of Mr. Obama, may well prove especially dangerous to America and its allies.

Presidents have always had more latitude in foreign than domestic affairs. President Obama is using this latitude to apply a bit of balm to wounded liberal sensibilities.

At the very time when the president’s approval ratings are tumbling, public support for government-controlled health care is steadily hemorrhaging, and the rest of his domestic agenda is stalled, he decided to withdraw support for deployment of components of a missile defense in Eastern Europe. Coincidence?

For those who say that this is too cynical a formulation, then let’s concede this: that an action may serve more than one purpose. Leaving the Poles and Czechs high and dry serves well the Obama doctrine of strength through weakness. It’s part of the neutering America must undergo to demonstrate to its enemies that it’s forswearing a dominate role in world affairs.

But as Ralph Peters commented:

The worst thing is how this decision’s read in Moscow. Putin, Russia’s new czar, sees this as a triumph of his will over Obama’s weak, retreating U.S. And he’s right.

For those who say that the president has not retreated entirely from support for missile defense, that he’s only adjusting it to meet likely threats, misses the point. Even if that was the president’s sole motive, the nation’s foes see it quite differently. They see it as a strategic retreat, an abandonment of stalwart allies. The ramifications will not only be felt in Eastern Europe, but elsewhere in the world, particularly in Asia, where China is watching closely.

The president is making it clear that he doesn’t intend to merely apologize for American misdeeds, real or imagined. He intends to act. Appeasing the Russians dovetails nicely with a floundering president’s efforts to appease his left-wing base as well.

  1. The Obama administration was going to restore friendships with the nations of the world that the U.S. supposedly lost under George Bush.

I hope the administration got something for this shameful policy. For example, if we obtained concessions from Russia on stopping missile sales to Iran, or for agreement to support Iranian sanctions, it could be argued that this is a defensible move. But I suspect that this is really nothing but unilateral disarmament for its own sake. Hillary Clinton said that dropping the missile defense shield will make us safer. To me it sounds like Neville Chamberlain saying that through the Munich agreement with Hitler, that he accomplished “peace in our time”

One has to wonder if the White House’s decision to announce this move on the 70th anniversary of the day that the USSR invaded Poland is more evidence of their stark incompetence. The only other theory explaining the move on this of all days is that they are just sick.

The White House is also starting an unnecessary trade war with China, over a surge in rubber tire imports. The reason for the punitive tariffs, says Obama is because trade agreements must be enforced in order for trading systems to work. Huh? Having the legal right to do something isn’t the same thing as being legally required to do it. Good luck now in getting Chinese help with North Korea.

  2. There’s a small but non-negligible portion of the American Left that actually hates America, that wants to see it suffer badly, perhaps even be destroyed or overrun. Those folks literally jump for joy whenever Obama kowtows to a rabid enemy of the United States, as he’s done with Vladimir Putin. (Hey, they were ecstatic over Jimmy Carter’s “foreign policy,” too.)

The question of the moment is electoral: How does this change the Democrats’ support figures? Will they gain enough from the hate-soaked fringe to offset their losses among patriotic moderates?

Time to count up the mad money and check the touts on GOP prospects in the 2010 elections…

    Politics? Obama? Sacrifice strategic postions?
    He’d never, ever do that.

What will you racists dream up next? Eliminating our nukes of something? Giving illegals amnesty? Taxing energy? Gee.

Psst, Mr. President, real liberals never smile. Unless they are campaigning. Even if you opened the borders, suspended all security, let the Tah-lee-bon open a training center as part of your jobs program, the best you’d get is a Mona Lisa smile. A thoroughly humorless group, laughing is for us non-elites.

And we are lucky here at PJM to have some of the elite superstars posting daily and they remind us in so many ways that humor is for others. Blind obediance is their thing and you are their man. Missile defense probably had a negative impact on the climate so abandoning the program was a two-fer, stops global warming and apologizes for America’s strength.

  5. 5. vivo

President Obama is teaching the neocons, conservatives, Republicans and Democrats how to make the right decisions. If only they could learn . . .

Well, there is hope: the human animal has a brain!

  6. Obama’s parading around the world, displaying himself as the gelding he really is.
And displaying his administrations inept basic mathematical skills:
If a missile leaves Tehran bound for Tel Aviv at 1:00, with a speed of mach 2.8, and a missile leaves a U.S. destroyer at 1:05 at a speed of mach 2.8, it will not make any difference what the distance required to travel is for the U.S. missile, because Tel Aviv will be vaporized before the U.S. missile gets launched. Then you have another missile flying around searching for something to destroy. What could go wrong?
And this is giving plenty of advantage to the decision making ability of the Obama administration, which we already know isn’t any where near this resolute.
Yea; Obama’s mettle comforts the foolish.
What puzzles me is; Why are these people so hell bent on destroying the very establishment that enabled them to attain their current status? Are they expecting 70 virgins, or what?

  7. 7. George S.

with the russians (…like leftists) one is only a collaborator or an enemy.

    neither option is good.

so what did the retard also known as obama the kenyan get from the russian ??

not a damn thing. (if he had he could not stop talking about it)

  8. In the small, stunted, minds of people like Vivo (#5), they just can’t accept the fact that a president like Ronald Reagan was right and that appeasing despots and dictators, like what Obama is doing right now, is a disaster. Tell me, Vivo, what “great” foreign policy victories has Mr. Obama achieved right now, after all of his apologizing, groveling, and European ass-kissing? Oh, that’s right, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!! The Europeans have turned him down on ALL of his economic policies, the Europeans have turned him down big time on more troops for Afghanistan, the North Koreans are openly sneering at him by continuing with the nuclear weapons program, the Iranians basically gave him the finger when it came to stopping their nuclear program, and the Russians are laughing at how stupid he was for withdrawing missiles from Poland without getting anything in return. Hamas and Hezbollah are still major threats to Israel and Obama has also managed to alienate Honduras (along with most of Central America) through his ineptness. And now we have a disaster brewing in Afghanistan after Obama’s much vaunted “New Strategy” was rolled out LAST MARCH. If you remember, Obama made a big deal last March in getting a new commander for Afghanistan as well as claiming the administration had a new strategy to win. Well, I guess he was wrong there, too. So now Obama has also managed to enrage all of Eastern Europe and alienate the few people who actually like and support us, such as the Poles. Nice going, Barry.

Look, it should be plain to anybody that Obama is nothing more than a European socialist. He is obsessed with his socialist domestic agenda (which ranged from nationalizing the banks, to controlling AIG and the car manufacturers, creating a gigantic “Stimulus” bill that only keeps people on the public dole, and now trying to institute socialized health care. He basically wants us to be just like France or Spain, with constant high unemployment, terrible economic growth, high taxes to support a huge central government, and no military. For a socialist like Obama, foreign policy is simply an annoyance, a “distraction,” that takes time away from his be domestic agenda. The sooner the rest of the world realizes this, the sooner they will understand that for the next three years you can expect NO leadership from the United States on any foreign policy matters. Even today, it has been announced in such “right-wing” newspapers like New York Times that Obama is considering not adding troops to Afghanistan, but pulling them out and reducing our involvement there. And this was supposedly “The Good War” that he promoted during the political campaign. Yet another lie from team Obama. For the rest of the world, you’re on your own for the next few years. Don’t expect any help from us, becuase you’re not going to get it from the guy who doesn’t see anything wrong in pulling missiles out of Poland on the 70th anniversary of the Russian invasion of that country. But I thought Biden was going to “advise” him on foreign policy matters? Go figure.

the real issues are that the administration and the democrat party are not doing their jobs which is upholding the constitution of the USA

below are links which go a long way in explaining where we are and how we got here

I thought obama was juat a marxist ..he does follow the marxist rule book and he has surrounded himself with marxists (do the trolls know he is marxist and by default they are supporting marxism)

..any way after seeing this blog I now see that the marxist part is small potatoes …he is a mental defect …a retard. well at least a narcissist. …and that is bad news for everyone.

    http://www.faithfreedom.org/obama.html

An all-pervasive pattern of grandiosity (in fantasy or behavior), need for admiration or adulation and lack of empathy, usually beginning by early adulthood and present in various contexts. Five (or more) of the following criteria must be met:

•Feels grandiose and self-important (e.g., exaggerates achievements and talents to the point of lying, demands to be recognized as superior without commensurate achievements)
•Is obsessed with fantasies of unlimited success, fame, power or omnipotence, unequalled brilliance (the cerebral narcissist), bodily beauty or sexual performance (the somatic narcissist), or ideal, everlasting, all-conquering love or passion
•Is firmly convinced that he is unique and, being special, can only be understood by, should only be treated by, or associate with, other special, unique, or high-status people (or institutions)
•Requires excessive admiration, adulation, attention and affirmation, or failing that, wishes to be feared and notorious (narcissistic supply)
•Feels entitled. Expects unreasonable or special and favorable priority treatment. Demands automatic and full compliance with his expectations
•Is “interpersonally exploitative” i.e., uses others to achieve his or her own ends
•Is devoid of empathy. Is unable or unwilling to identify with or acknowledge the feelings and needs of others
•Is constantly envious of others or believes that they feel the same about him or her
•Is arrogant, has haughty behaviors or attitudes coupled with rage when frustrated, contradicted, or confronted

…so from that stand point he is doing well for a retard.

here is a link for the people who think they can engage a troll with a positive result.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DIFcnctnHsE&feature=related

basically that means the trolls are ideological retards.

Relentless escalation of nuclear armaments is the only future conservatives can see. That’s why your philosophy is doomed to fail, and that failure has begun.

  11. 11. Marie Claude

“He basically wants us to be just like France or Spain, with constant high unemployment, terrible economic growth, high taxes to support a huge central government, and no military”

uh oh, we are in a much better position than yours at the moment, yours looks like much like Spain’s one !

  12. 12. Room 237

Maybe Obama got nothing in return. But maybe the issue is that it is time for Europe, a prosperous continent, to pay for its own defense instead of relying on us.

Personally, I think Obama got something right for once.

  13. The liberals/Democrats that comment here, display excellent contrast to the Conservative posts; And reinforce the Conservative view point.
Thanks; and keep up the good work, liberals!

  14. 14. Anonymous

MC …you mean portugal not spain lol.

…as for the clowns who equate a defensive radar system to an un-ending escalation of nuclear armaments. they need to learn to read, and maybe question the talking points they swallow.

  15. 15. JED

Hush now, Obama is in his glory, preaching to the UN, community organizing the whole world as to how everyone can be friends and make the planet right. If only we more cynical and experienced freemen would believe harder and pay taxes deeper there would be a new utopia and peace in our times.

  16. Obama’s missile defense stand-down was certainly a gift to both Russia and the American left, who have indeed hated the concept since its inception.

But there is more here. It is quickly becoming clear that President Obama’s foreign policy has a simple but astonishing goal: to rid us of both enemies and allies.

The policy of appeasement of our enemies has been painfully obvious. In facing Iran, North Korea, and now a newly revanchist Russia, Obama has offered goodwill, apologies, and concessions, in the expectation that these will appease them and ensure good behavior in the future. It didn’t work for Chamberlain and it is unlikely to work for Obama. But there it is.

The flip side has been less obvious, but it, too, is emerging. Israel has received more of Obama’s pressure and condemnation than any of the nations that seek to push her into the sea.

The “moral equivalence” approach, where the smallest failings of democracies are equated to the greatest atrocities of tyrants, has been seen before from the left. But here we have something even worse: harsh condemnation of Israel for adding bedrooms in the West Bank without even a balancing concern about Palestinian shelling of Israeli homes.

It is of course not just Israel who is on the receiving end of this two-sided doctrine. The retreat on missile defense in Europe is being seen properly in most places as craven appeasement of Russia, who objected to anything that would limit Iran’s western “outreach” or reinforce the independence of Russia’s former colonies in Eastern Europe. But the message was two-fold: Russia must be appeased, but similarly Poland and the Czech Republic must be reminded that we have no stake in ensuring their independence. Poles and Czechs, like our other allies, are on their own.

Yet Obama continues on in the same path – outreach to enemies, pushback to allies. Why?

There are two possible answers. One is cowardice, the other ideology.

Now, cowardice (like racism) is a hefty charge, and not to be thrown around lightly. It amounts to being nice to those who are itching to fight with you, while venting your frustration on those closest to you. It is the pattern of the Bully, and there are few things uglier. (And for the record, I don’t think this is the motivator here.)

The other explanation is ideology, specifically the ideology of isolationism. We generally reserve the label for Republican policy in the 1920’s and early 1930’s, but it appears equally applicable here. Back then (and it continued well into the Roosevelt years) we intentionally distanced ourselves from our allies in the recent World War. We rejected all efforts to respond to aggression overseas. And we limited our active diplomacy to high-minded disarmament schemes.

So this stuff is nothing new. But back then it was properly condemned as “turning our backs to the world”, while today it is seen as the highest kind of international outreach, the noblest level of diversity. “All nations are equal, and we love you all equally. So don’t expect us to take sides in any of your petty quarrels.”

At the risk of being shamefully branded a librul, could it possibly that the real reason that Obama is abandoning the European Missile Defense Shield plan is because it was friggin stupid idea in the first place, like pretty much every one of Bush & Company’s brain dead ideas? Besides the Russians being a bit more concerned these days with making money and dealing with their not so friendly former Soviet neighbors, the types of battles and wars we’ve been engaging in the past few decades have nothing to do with Dr. Strangelove scenarios. Just look how long it took to up-armor the Humvees in Iraq! We have enough nukes to turn all the major cities in both Russia and the Arab world into ashtrays, and don’t think for a second that this is forgotten about regardless of whatever the public rhetoric may be.

  18. 18. billslayer

Hatred for missile defense is one of the primary symptoms of American Liberal Penis Envy. This phenomenon is caused by Reagan’s utter destruction of their world view. Until that point in time the greatest presidents on the century were perceived to have been Roosevelt and JFK. Then Reagan came along and ruined their visions…and liberated half the world from tyranny.

  19. Hey, Marie Claude (#11), and any one of you jerks out there that thinks European Socialism is the answer to every liberals wet dreams. Take a look at this chart:
    http://www.indexmundi.com/france/unemployment_rate.html
If you take a look at the chart, the unemployment rate in France has been well over 7% from 2003 to 2008. In some years (such as 2003, 2004, and 2006) it was well over 9% and in 2005 it was over 10%. Remember, these were all years when unemployment in the United States was at 5% OR LESS before the bulk of the recession hit in 2008. You see, this is how Europeans lie and why they’re so worthless. Yes, their unemployment rate is lower than ours right now (over 7%), but it never seems to go any lower than that, only HIGHER. So that’s what I mean when I say that European socialism will guarantee you constant high unemployment along with astronomical taxes (their tax rate is much, much, higher than here in the United States; they have to pay for all that socialized medicine, don’t ya know). So it just goes to prove how much an average European is willing to distort the truth in order to make a point. And lets not even talk about the tiny size of the French armed forces. The French Army couldn’t fight its way out of a Parsian whore house. And these are the worthless wretches Obama wants to be like?

  20. 20. billslayer

    17. BC: Wow. You have NO IDEA what you’re talking about, but still you blather. I’m sorry but so far your weakling president has not proven to be any better than Bush. He has proven so far to only be capable of fellating dictators and spending money we dont have, and all to no effect. Now he appeases. What’s his next act? Perhaps some scatological performance art?

er hmmm, did you try to check how the basis are taken for suchstats ?

they are different for the youth unemployment, and that is what makes the “difference”, our students are counted while yours are not, wethey they hold a part-time job or are at their parents charges ; if we were having the same calculs, then we would have been of about the same average rating

    it’s explained here

“Obama Pleases His Base by Abandoning Missile Defense in Europe”

Let us now read from the good book of his Supreme Puppetmaster and idealist doublespeak extra ordinaire St. Soros, billionaire and manipulator of commodities:
“The Open Society Fellowship enables innovative professionals—including journalists, activists, academics, and practitioners—to work on projects that inspire meaningful public debate, shape public policy, and generate intellectual ferment within the Open Society Institute.”

And now we all may ferment on the new cornerstones of a nuclear and criminal free world; subterfuge-idealism and naivity. May the open society be with you as foretold by the UN and the intellectual elites.

  25. Sorry, Marie Claude #21, a lie is still a lie, and you told a big one. Counting “youths” as you put it, doesn’t seem to make much of a difference to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) that put together one of the charts I cited. If you look down on that chart, you’ll see that the last year your pathetic country had an unemployment rate just over 6% was in 1980! Ever since then, it has been hovering between 7% and OVER 11% (1993 to 1998). Think about that, for five years your unemployment rate was OVER 11% when the United States was having a booming economy and very low unemployment (5% or less). And France can probably weather economic bad times better than the United States because most French people are already on the public dole. Americans are used to WORKING for a living, not leaching off of the federal government (unless you’re Now and Then and some of the other people around here). Unfortunately, with four years of Obama in the White House, our workforce may look just like yours, since Obama wants to explode the size of our government and make everyone dependent on it. That in and of itself is a disgrace, and more and more Americans are beginning to realize that.

  28. C’mon Folks,
let’s not look at the past glories of appeasing Iran and Russia and betraying our allies: Hussein is now busy finding the best way to lose the war in Afghanistan and to give to the islamists a new solid base from which they can attack us.
Of course he must also send back to the terrorists their friends now detained in Guantanamo.
He is a very busy man.

The Manchurian Candidate Very Active – Handlers Content, Investment Pays Off Hansomely. (AP, 10 am. PST – coverage constantly updated).

Obama didn’t do an idiocy – his decision was a fully predictable step in advancing his agenda for weakening America by discouraging our allies and by giving our rivals the chance to strenghten their positions.
The return of Churchill’s bust to London wasn’t a mistake – it was a deliberate affront showing the British that they are on America’s list of partners somewhere behind Malawi but ahead of Tobriand Island.
Skipping the Gdansk aniversary of the WWII beginnings and having there only gen. Jones (who isn’t even a cabinet member), shows the same – heavens, even Putin was present at Gdansk!
As far as the missiles shield situation it is uncessary to outguess the Russians in this situation – they have confirmed credentials of doing what they announce they will do. And here the Kremlin said bluntly that there is no quid-pro-quo in this situation – it’s that simple, Obama took the Europeans to the laundry on the fuzzy notion that Russia will in a way or other influence Iran.
    This won’t happen, since:
    1) Russia will not do anything to enhance or help America’s reputation or strategy, i.e. defanging Iran, and:
    2) even if they would want to do something in this situation, they simply don’t have the leverage -
… thus, the Manchurian Candidate SUCCEEDED!

A confirmation of this situation’s crappy management comes from Robert Gates himself, who credited the decision on the “new perceptions” regarding Iran’s atomic capabilities – my! “perceptions”, this is the newspeak used for assessing the risks of a nuclear war?
Not really. “New perceptions” is a term hedging a situation that the Pentagon sees as having terrible consequences -

Qaddafi wants Obama to stay president of America forever

I am pretty sure of that.

Thank you for the opportunity to comment.

  36. Uh, Robert V. (#27), you really don’t need to make a fool out of yourself and go there, do you? You MoveOn types really do need to MoveOn and find yourself another home, like the Daily Kos. Selling weapons to Iranians? You know, I never really had a problem with that, considering the money we made from that deal was used to pay for the Contras to fight against the Communists in Nicaragua. (By the way, the Communists were eventually defeated in Nicaragua, but I guess that doesn’t really matter to people like you, right?). In addition, the deal was used to free some American hostages in Lebanon at the time while the Iranians used the weapons to fight Iraqis, something that I had no problems with either. What’s not to love when two Muslim dictatorships go after each other? So if you can use and manipulate a dictator to serve your political interests, I think that’s called being smart. Putting Saddam Hussein in power? Sorry chum, Hussein got in through a coup. We may have helped to keep him in power during the 1980s, but that was only because he was fighting the Iranians. We didn’t want the Iranians to win because we didn’t want them threatening the entire Gulf reagion. And supporting Osama Bin Laden? Are you kidding me? Bin Laden, as well as any other Muslim who could carry a rifle or a Stinger missile, were supported in Afghanistan to fight the Russians and, guess what? They beat them and the Russians were defeated. Nobody at the time even considered, let alone believed, that bin Laden would be a threat to the United States. And if you really want to pin some blame on somebody, why didn’t Bill Clinton kill bin Laden when he had the chance in the 1990s? No one ever said politics, let alone war, made strange bedfellows. And sometimes you have to associate with some unsavory people in order to win a larger war. According to your warped logic, Britain and the United States never should have been allies with Communist Russia during World War II simply because Stalin was a cruel dictator. Please, start reading some history, chum, rather than spewing out the same tired old talking points from the far left. People like you love to cherry-pick absurd “facts” without explaining the whole story behind them. But that’s what people like you do best. Sorry, you didn’t earn your MoveOn paycheck today.

Besides the multitude of domestic economic disasters brought about by eight years of laizze fare “no care” government elected in 2000, many of us know what a shambles our international situation turned out to be as well. Senior military officials and diplomats around the world are breathing a sigh of relief that America now has the “right kind” of leadership so that much of the world can move forward. The President reconizes this and is seizing the initative. We should all be proud, that a government of no is now a government of yes. we can.

Of course the Czechs, Poles, Israelis, Hondurans, Georgians, and Ukrainians seem a bit uneasy. I suspect that the Western Europeans might be a bit queasy contemplating more natural gas extortion from the Russians (who,as I mentioned, are breathing easier). The Taiwanese seem a bit uneasy. Cuba and Peru are definitely breathing easier. All in all, Obama has delivered a stellar performance. The trouble though is that Obama is all about performing, and then he exits the stage.

Are you jealous that Obama has a brain? You seem to be doing OK without one. Oh well. Another busy day for The One. Another four or five masterful speeches. Dressing up and distributing his little wisdoms hither and yon. Maybe a couple of talk shows later. Busy day, busy day. And he speaks so well. And he’s so clean.

President Obama just represents the fringe Leftists within the Democratic Party; however, this miscalculation will be yet another backlash against the One & his thugs in the White House; the fringe Leftists only make up 19% of the country. This is the Daily Kos, Huffington Post, & unfortunately the bubble world of the MSM. President Obama is a younger Jimmy Carter, but more dangerous than Jimmy Carter ever was…

All the dictators are dancing in the street that they have found a kindred spirit in Barack Obama because he is an anti-American Leftist who would love to see America fail. Obama is doing his best to America fail across the board. He needs to be impeached.

The other explanation is ideology, specifically the ideology of isolationism.

Global scale capitalism depends on global security maintained by the U.S. and its allies. Obama hates capitalism so his foriegn policy is designed to undermine the basis of international trade. Unions win under this policy as production moves domestically to reduce risk. Everyone else loses because goods are then more expensive to produce.

Isolationism means higher prices for the things you buy.

37…sound like you’re in the market for a couple of cute brown shirts, and a pair of slightly used jackboots??
yyeeeaaahhhh spit shine those puppies ’til you see your great leader’s face in them…and of course, keep your mouth shut to the wrong that swirls around you.
AAAAAAHHHHHH yes, a kindred spirit in Obama. Makes socialism/totalitarianism/communism/stupidism sound down rigt folksy..

Perhaps billslayer’s comment indicates the real problem right wingers have: you guys are genuinely badly, badly confused and misinformed about what’s going on. For instance, if you are going to talk about appeasers and supporting dictators, then well, you can’t beat Reagan for that stuff: Iran-Contra, supporting and supplying Hussein, and supporting as well the only slightly less bloody Augusto Pinochet, the dictator of Chile (although he was hardly the only Republican to do so). And as far as Bush goes, Obama could eat kittens for lunch and accidentally blow up a cruise liner, and still be a much, MUCH better President than Bush.

See, I just supplied more factual information on one paragraph than, say, Fox News does in 10,000 hrs of air time. But no need to thank me — I’m just glad to be of help and shine a nice bright light on the shadowy cesspool of ignorance.

    49. BC: Pop culture has done terrible things to your backbone and your mind. Those examples are exactly the sort of thing I hear from college freshmen at coffee shops… it’s just bad. I’ll grant you that Fox is bad too, but seriously, those are just poor examples. I’m glad and it heartens me that you are actually using examples to back up your reasoning now, but understand that there are two side to the script you are reading off of. Keep up the good work though, soon you’ll be able to sit at the big kid table.

Naturally, we have nothing to fear from Iran because its government (then known as Persia) ratified the Kellogg-Briand Pact of 1928, as did the United States. The pact outlawed war among its signatories.

Knowing this and having faith in our glorious leader Obama, the giver of light and deliverer of mankind, I will sleep soundly as long as he remains our president and the leader of the western world.
