No, the DE Republican Primary Won’t Live in Infamy
There was a monster tornado on September 14 in Oz; Dorthy, kicking her heels together wildly, was swept up in it and found herself back in Kansas. The gold yellow brick road was destroyed. In response, the Obama administration promised to divert $823,000 from a study of African genital washing stimuli to Oz, along with Vice President Biden and the Honorable Charles Rangel to assist in its distribution. To demonstrate the post-partisan nature of the effort, Karl Rove has agreed to go with them to help.
What caused the tornado, besides global warming and George Bush II, the root of all our national disgrace? Nobody in the Washington establishment has been able to figure it out. Karl Rove apparently complained that it was a man woman-caused disaster, and lamented that it was terrible and probably means the end of civilized politics as we have known and loved it. If the stupid tea party fascists want to screw up the Grand Old Party, they wouldn’t get any support. Michael Steele, the inappropriately surnamed chairman of the Republican National Committee, welcomed Ms. O’Donnell to the fold and sent an e-mail elaborating on her merits:
The people of Delaware have spoken. And just like voters across America, they are demanding commonsense conservative candidates who will focus on the issues that matter most to them: creating jobs, turning the economy around and protecting our most cherished freedoms.
Christine O’Donnell is exactly that type of candidate and the RNC is proud to support her and our entire slate of Republican candidates in Delaware. But with only 48 days until Election Day, time is running out for Republican grassroots leaders like you to help the RNC provide Christine and all our candidates with the campaign resources and direct financial assistance they need to win.
Please make an urgent contribution of $50, $75 or $100 to RNC Victory today to help fully fund the Victory Centers in Delaware and across the nation that are the key to winning the 39 seats in the House we need to Fire Nancy Pelosi and the ten we must capture in the Senate to Retire Harry Reid.
Your 2010 election contribution today is critical to ensuring Christine O’Donnell and every Republican candidate receives the get-out-the-vote and campaign support they need to fight back and win an historic victory for our Party and our country on November 2nd. Please give as generously as you can.
That’s cool. On the various conservative blogs, the reactions generally amounted to a hand gesture hardly amounting to clapping. By the morning of September 16, Ms. O’Donnell had received $750,000, and was shooting for $1,000,000 in post-September 14 contributions from those who might (or might not) otherwise have pledged the funds to the RNC. This was terrible. Ms. O’Donnell’s overloaded website crashed, a sure sign that even the internet gods (it was invented by Al Gore, don’t ya know) don’t like her. How could she possibly hope to win a Senate seat in November? It’s all madness! What’s a moderate RINO Republican to do? Weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth (if any) might help, but more is needed.
In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, when Ford Prefect and Arthur Dent had escaped from the about-to-be-destroyed Earth by hitching a ride on a Volgon spaceship and the ship was about to go into hyperspace drive, Ford warned Arthur that it would be unpleasant: like getting drunk. Arthur questioned Ford why he thought that getting drunk was unpleasant. Ford answered, “Ask a glass of water.” The September 14 primaries, particularly in Delaware, were indeed rather like getting drunk for the GOP establishment, and the hangover may be even worse.

Karl Rove has to be the most over-rated name in politics since William Jennings Bryan.
Christine O’Donnell will probably win on Election Day. She primarily represents those voters earning a living in the private sector. Her opponent Chris Coons is an advocate for the public sector workers and their unions. I really think it is that simple.
She didn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning the primary just a few weeks ago. Now, according to the talking heads, she doesn’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell of winning the election.
According to the most recent NASA studies, the temperature in Hell has dropped to 30 degrees F. and it’s snowing there. Must have something to do with global warming, er cooling, er I mean climate change. Whatever.
But that study was directed by James Hansen, and nobody believes anything that idiot says.
Great article, Dan!
I do not think I am overly optimistic. This is not 2006 or 2008 when few Americans were truly worrying about their own financial situation. Countless numbers of voters are literally scared of the future—and especially if they have children. The Democrats and their “moderate” Republican allies are committed to grand ill thought out programs that are bankrupting the nation. They must be stopped.
I don’t think you are overly optimistic, and did not intend to suggest that I do.
Among other things, the apparent decision of Sen. Lisa Murkowski to run as a write-in candidate in Alaska after her defeat in the primary by an otherwise electable Republican Joe Miller there may well reverberate and help get out the vote for Ms. O’Donnell in Delaware.
The increasingly energized conservatives are getting the message, and that’s important. The establishment is coming to be seen as of, by and for the establishment, and that perception is a good thing.
Within your lifetime. The hoopla surrounding the win by Scott Brown in Massachusetts and the high hopes. But what happened once he got his hands on the membership card of the US Senate, a sinecure for life if memory serves. What he did as one of his first acts of obeisance to that most exclusive in the world “private gentlemens club “.
Caution.
Of course this is a perfect case study of apples and oranges.
Ms. O’Donnell actually IS a Conservative.. a real American. Scott Brown is less a liberal than Castle and a whole lot better than the scumbag who held the office Scott now holds for, unfortunately.. life.
It is called trading up, and I am happy with both. And express such happiness with contributions. Like rose petals cast before Caesar.
It’s Vogons. Not Volgons.
According to her website, Ms. O’Donnell has already passed the $1,250,000 goal and is heading for $1,500,000.
It feels as though BOTH parties are under the impression that this is 1994 revisited. With some possible upset but a return to buisiness as usual soon enough. And they become a bit cranky when the peasnts don’t perform their assigned roles. But to my mind it feels more like 1859! And the Tea Partier’s arn’t Republicans they are ABOLISIONISTS! And they only view the GOP as a vehicle to a grander end. Namely, the re-installation of Consitutional Law and Freedom in The United States. And Anybody misguided enough to stand in the way will be steamrollered.
wkj
They can’t figure this out any more than they could understand Glenn Beck’s Lincoln Memorial rally.
It is starting to look like the R establishment was perfectly willing to use her until she got big ideas. She was their candidate in last senate election against Biden but somehow today she is not qualified. Give me a break. She’s a trooper they all know, and she has paid her dues. The old guard like Castle must step aside sooner rather than later.
You people are seriously delusional. I’m sure O’Donnell has paid some dues. I’m sure she represents the pro-business, anti-tax, anti-welfare, pro-Jesus, anti-science, anti-intellectual stance that you Cons like.
The problem is (and it’s a big one) she will be too far to the right to get ANY legislation passed. Things like campaign finance reform, immigration reform and trade reform will require compromise and bipartisanship. She will offer none of that. Her views will be too out-of-touch and she will prove to be utterly useless as a United States Senator. Promises of a stagnant, broken government…Yay.
You are reading the next Congress wrong. You still think ‘compromise’ and ‘bipartisanship’.
The whole point of stopping Castle back to the Senate is to prevent ANY MORE Pelosi/Obama agenda, we definitely don’t want any bipartisanship or comprimise.
And in that sense, we do want a stagnant government for the next two years. Until we can get both executive and legilative branch back into The People’s hands.
Back in law school, a teacher asked a rather long and complex question and called upon a student to answer. His answer was “yes.” After a brief pause, the teacher responded, “a shorter and more nearly accurate answer would have been ‘no’.”
Sometimes, “No” is the best answer.
“You people are seriously delusional. I’m sure O’Donnell has paid some dues. I’m sure she represents the pro-business, anti-tax, anti-welfare, pro-Jesus, anti-science, anti-intellectual stance that you Cons like”
Here goes another liberal with a derisive opening line of claptrap. It sort of takes the Wind off of his bi-partisanship sails. Use your noggin, Nate.
“stagnant broken government” As compared to what?
If the next Congress gets into a total logjam and accomplishes absolutely nothing but a stalemate, it would be one of the finest 2-years in my lifetime.
This is not a bug. It is a feature.
Only a Lefty thinks otherwise.
Everything in the article is debatable except this: Conservatives have got to find better candidates.
“If conservatives do not like O’Donnell, then they should be out identifying better candidates to run against vulnerable RINOs”
Yep. You have 2 years to find decent opponents to take out Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe, and Lindsey Graham – or we’ll do it for you. Don’t give me the “electability” crap. None of them are worth much more than a liberal Democrat to begin with.
What you said is right, Old Soldier.
When the web sit was put up it had a goal of $50,000. initially.
That didn’t take long to surpass….
I would say she has a very good chance of winning in the general…
Her opponent is left of Obama… So there is a choice to be made..
Left of Obama…..hmmm…that is one of those theoretical constructs that only the best minds can envision, something like superstring theory. It is theoretically possible, I suppose, but hard to imagine.
Karl Rove had one of those life-defining moments, and he flunked badly. In one interview, he obliterated, for me, several years of admiration and appreciation.
His claim of just wearing his analyst hat is either totally bogus or flat out stupid. Does he really think we believe that the five minutes of 30-second sound bites he gave the Democrats (and elitist Republicans) will have that disclaimer attached?
I think your time has gone, Karl.
The point of all this fooferaw is not what is happening to candidates for election. The point is what is happening to the voters. Ordinary people won their freedoms, not governments, and ordinary people own their freedoms, not governments. Voters went to sleep and now they have woken up.
The people they elect will always be slippery, treacherous, self-serving operators – they’re politicians for gosh sake. The thing is, it’s harder to wreck the joint if everyone is awake and paying attention. The USA is edging towards disaster. Because they are so bendy, those elected persons may start to save the day if ordinary people stay awake, pay attention and keep firing those representatives who don’t perform. Bendy people respond to pressure – a double edged sword – but that’s all the voters have going for them.
If the voters quickly go back to sleep then all will be lost.
we are sick of these elitist sell-outs who have done more to prop up progressive liberalisms predator, perverts, and deadbeat party;that anything our founding fathers, would never had tolerated;not just karl rove, but other self serving elitist intellectuals, like charles krauthammer, stephen hayes, and the liberal suck-ups,at the weekly standard;as well presidential wanna-be’s like newt gingrich, mike huckabee, mitt romney, hayley barbour, mitch daniels, etc;who was slobbering at the mouth like desperate groupies, saying what a genius barack obama was,and that he was a great an honorable man who loved this country, and how they would bend over backwards to help him succeed;until the american people forced them to face the truth;no vision from any of them;but they know more ,and whats best for us stupid, american bible believing hick’s and the same say; christine o’donnell has no character, because she went through hard times;yet the same elitist extorted bank’s,and other businessess, institution’s,and american taxpayer’s to pay for the addictive, destructive, and perverse lifestyles,of societies professional predators, and deadbeats;christine o’donnell paid for her mistakes choices, and debt, american’s understand, and relate to that;but karl rove, and the elitist class, put american’s their children, and their grand children,in a 14 trillion dollar hole,so where’s their apologies, just more blame, accuse, and disdain for the mentality,of the american people, and those common sense american’s like sarah palin, michelle bachman, jim demint, and christine o’donnell; who are sick of sell-out elitist, whose greatest accomplishments;is buying, and selling votes lives, rights, liberties, property, america, and the american people, out to the highest bidder;no; christine o’donnell you are not acceptable to these political pimps, and slumlords;unless you are willing to help the elitist finish off, whats left,of this promiseland, born under judeo-christian principals;so christine o’donnell, and other enemies of the elitist class;tell the elitist class i’ll apologize for any debts,or wrong choices,i’ve made in my life;.but when are you elitist intellectual types, going to appologize, and repay, the debt, and choices, you have made,at the cost of the lives, liberties, resources, and property of the american people;jimmy joe;”the liarfryer;”
Just damn jimmy joe. Wish I could have said that.
Claire Solt PhD: It is starting to look like the R establishment was perfectly willing to use her until she got big ideas. She was their candidate in last senate election against Biden but somehow today she is not qualified.
Excellent point, Claire. It’s a shame no one has asked this of Rove or any of his conservative-hating, unprincipled “moderates” (who seem to throw uncontrollable hissy fits when they lose).
Nov. 2nd – It will be LADIES’ NIGHT!
All the voters will suddenly wake up and vote to maintain the status quo, right? Things are going well, so well that Bloomberg reported that consumer confidence unexpectedly (I love that word) fell to a one year low. That’s puzzling, because unemployment is at a 26 year high.
Let’s vote for the incumbents. They’re doing a great job and who knows how badly amateurs would mess things up.
That will sell.
That was funny, right there.
Karl truly nailed the pooch on this. His future as a spokesperson for the Right is done, he failed or refused to hear the people, and has now been made to look like part of the problem. Winning back the trust of the Conservative movement will be a long uphill battle for him, from this day forward he is damaged goods. The experts wished to give the voters but two choices, a Democrat Liberal, or a RHINO Liberal, lose lose regardless of who won, O’Donnell at least offers a chance of change.
The vote in Delaware and elsewhere has been a revolt against the Establishment “Big Government, but not quite as big as Democrats” Republicans.
Elitist Republicans are just as bad as Elitist Democrats and we don’t want either. Repent of be retired.
The reason that Washington establishment can’t figure out what just happened is because you have to be a peasant to see it. The peasants are rising up. It’s a guaranteed, definite, surefire, cast iron, in the bag, clear cut, assured, straightforward, and a sure thing that’s the reason. The elistist’s will see it first when they see the top of the pitch-forks.
According to Ms. O’Donnell’s website, she has now passed $1.5 million in recent contributions and is looking forward to $2.0 million.
Good on her.
The Second American War Of Independence is under way and the Battle of O’Donnell Castle is won.
Some of our more profoundly ignorant elitist opponents – AKA “Democrats” and RINOs – would have it that we are seeking to “take back” our beloved fraternal republic.
What rubbish.
We ARE our beloved fraternal republic.
And intend that we shall also, from now on, manage, control and govern ourselves, commission our own military officers and appoint our own judges.
Christine O’Donnell and Rampaging RINOs
. . . However, this is not about the Tea Party. This is about a Tea Party candidate and her campaign for the Republican Party nomination for the office of United States Senator from the great state of Delaware, Christine O’Donnell.
No relation to Rosie, thank God! Christine is an attractive and personable New Jersey native who has articulated very distinctive and, for 2010, somewhat unorthodox views which put her at odds with the RINO establishment types. Many of them would be more at ease with a Rosie O’Donnell candidacy than with Christine O’Donnell’s.
Christine’s conservative views with regard to personal chastity as well as vicious personal attacks are now being used to defeat her in the same way they were used against Sarah Palin, an early and prime supporter.
That’s a good thing, really. A sure sign of liberal-Democrats’ gut fear of a candidate is the gutter level of their attacks.
Whether it was Christine’s personal philosophy and viewpoints or her Tea Party endorsement and backing that effectively turned off the RINOs, she was treated as a virtual pariah by the establishment types before the primary with RINO stalwart and former Delaware governor, “moderate” Mike Castle. Castle could never seem to figure out if he was a Democrat or Republican yet he was backed by the RINOs. . .
