Muslim Student Union Suspended at UC Irvine … Finally
It seems the administration at the University of California-Irvine has some backbone after all.
Many people, and not just Jews in the Orange County community, have waited years for the UCI administration to take action against the campus Muslim Student Union. By bringing speakers to campus like Amir Abdel Malik Ali who consistently slander and demonize Jews (see here), advocate violence in the form of “civil disobedience,” and vocalize their support for terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah, the MSU has long ago transgressed the boundaries of student conduct at UCI.
Now the UCI administration has suspended the organization.
In what is sure to become a landmark decision in the history of the campus’ Jewish-Muslim student tensions, the school decided to suspended the MSU for the 2010–2011 school year. According to a campus document, this means the school has entirely revoked its recognition of the organization. Not only that, but the same document states that no current MSU executive officer listed on the Dean of Students registration application form will be allowed to act in the way of an “authorized signer” for any other club on campus. The suspension takes effect from September 1 to August 31. They MSU is also required to collectively complete 50 hours of community service and is on disciplinary probation for an additional year.
For years, people have been lambasting the UCI administration for not having the spine to stand up to the MSU. So how did this happen?
Readers will recall the UCI incident on February 8, 2010, when Israeli Ambassador Michael Oren visited UCI to give a speech about U.S.-Israel relations. As soon as the speech started, an MSU member stood up and began shouting slogans at the ambassador. This disruption was repeated ten more times, executed by MSU members from UCI or UC Riverside — a clear sign that the entire incident was pre-planned. An investigation into this incident revealed the UCI MSU’s well-documented and organized plan to prevent Oren from being able to speak.

I am dreaming, aren’t I??
The stranglehold that the Muslim Brotherhood has on US campuses, via its proxy forces at its MSA/MSU, is like a hydra-like tentacle.Perhaps its toxins are starting to sting too many in administrative high places.
A Potemkin decision. Suspending the students permanently, not an organization temporarily was needed. They didn’t. They just said “cool it, come back later”.
You can bet your wad that if it was a Southern States Rights Coalition, or a Jewish Supremacy Fraternity, they’d have kicked the students off campus if not into jail.
Great that the UCI administration is showing some backbone!!! The punishment to the students should be well publicized as it is not protected by any privacy laws. These idiots showed their rowdy behavior in public and the public has a right to know the steps taken by the university to punish them Such publication might deter further uncivil behavior by MSU members.
It’s nice to see that there is some fair play going on.
However, it’s disgusting to see that it’s taken this long to actually do something about it.
Freedom of expression is one thing and we should encourage it, no matter how disgusting it can be (such as anti-Israel week). But if you’re going to start punishing groups, everyone should be equally spanked.
Yea…lets get those hateful, disruptive Jews off our campus too. Bwaaaaaaaaaaa.
Sarcasm intended….leone….baloney.
Leone/baloney? Gee, I feel like I’m back in the 6th grade!
It was hard stooping to your level, believe me. After all…it was you who advocated “fair play”.
I’m starting to think we’re crossing wires. So what side of the fence do you sit on with this issue?
Brilliant , Anthony, lets treat everybody the same … even though the conduct of the Jewish groups is on the other end of the spectrum from the Muslims. Liberals seem to be totally incapable of self-examination, and lack any ability whatsoever to acknowledge when they are wrong. When they are hopelessly on the wrong side of an issue the best they can do is call for “everyone to be punished”. This juvenile argument has become very tiresome.
It’s about time! I hope two things: First, a useful precedent. 2: The response from the jihad apologists will be either quiet, or more revealing that they’d like.
Way overdue with moon god worshiping youth. One of the enemys of American culture. Supported by the Muslim brotherhood.
Everywhere Islam goes, there is a problem, then it gets bigger. Islam is a cancer.
Islam is S-H-I-T
Mr. Elias: I am very much against the policies of the Israeli government. but anyone who calls Jews Nazis or is anti semite etc
is a racist SOB. I just listened to this guy whos video you posted.
He is D….bag and a racist…
This from the “woman” who declared that what the Jews are doing is worse than what the Nazis did????
Leave her alone, she’s coming around, it doesn’t have to be 100%. Right now I’ll take 50%. Thank you Miriam and please continue your dialogue.
Jew is either a religion or an ethnicity it is not a race.
And your point in pointing this out would be?
The point being that criticizing Israel cannot be construed as racist. Come on, NDaBoonies, please keep up with the rest of the class.
It’s about time!
They`ll change their name and be back tomorrow. The school administration will do nothing……..
I immediatly thought that too after i finished the article. They may have lost thier name, but as long as the student members of the MSU are still on campus, they will let their martyr flag fly and be more trouble than ever before.
One small step for man….a giant leap towards salvaging mankind from the ravages and agendas of bigoted, hateful, anti semitism and hatred of all Jews. Imagine of the group had called for the annihilation of all blacks in this country and shouted hateful slogans towards them at the same time? Would we stand for it? All these alphabet, jihadist loving, terror embracing, genocide loving monsters should be banned from any and every campus in the US.
Islime is a political organization dedicated to the over through of the US constitution and should be banned; and all Mosques: Translates &/or AKA terrorist recruitment centers, should be closed and the attendees shipped out!
Islime shows no respect for anyone! Yet demands repeal of the freedom of speech to even criticize Islime and its multiple wives and its honor killing et al.
Mark The Great. I never said Jews.. Never…I said the Israeli government.. the Iranian governmet, the Egyptian government, North Korean Governmet, Syrian government
Notice That I am saying governments, not jews, not arabs, not Iranians not budahist. I am saying Zimbabawe government not african
do you now get it it is a huge difference in condemning a governement as oppsed to a group of people because of their religion
I honestly do not think you are that smart…
That’s the classic dodge of the anti-semite and I’m not going to let you get away with it. Given the totality of your comments on this site, it is more than obvious that you meant jew.
Miriam: I appreciate your insight. As long as you understand the innate hatred in many of these people directed at the Jewish people and not just Israel, you are a welcome critic in my eyes.
We in the Zionist community always say that criticism of Israel is legitimate as long as it does not hold the Jewish state to double-standards or other unfair degrees. We must always remember that not all criticism of Israel is barbed with anti-Semitism or hatred; the anti-Israel extremists like the MSU have warped some of our perceptions so that it may appear so when it is not the case. After all, “nobody criticizes Israel more than Israelis.”
Thank you for reading the article.
It is certainly *possible* to criticize Israel and not be antisemitic … it’s just that it doesn’t happen very often. Sooner or later the mask nearly always falls off, as it did with Helen Thomas.
I always wonder why there are so many black Muslims in the States, when the word in their Prophet language for black is the same as for slave. They wouldn’t be so fond of Islam if they knew that for Arabs and Northafricans that’s not only a kind of non-PC word. For example, in Sudan the Arabs from the north hunt, kill, rape and enslave the Blacks from the South. It’s quite funny that they reject Christianism just because some Christians have enslaved them for a couple of centuries in the past, but they embrace Islam that has enslaved them since its very foundation and still does. It doesn’t sound very smart to me.
From what I’ve read, black muslims have very little in common with what we call Islam.
Mainstream Sunni Muslims don’t see them as Muslims.
It got its start in the 1930′s
I hope this may be a pivotal moment like the free speech movements in Berkley 40+ years ago.
I hope, but I don’t plan on it.
Here’s the truth about Islam:
The Legacy of Jihad: Islamic Holy War and the Fate of Non-Muslims (Andrew Bostom)
and
The Suicide of Reason: Radical Islam’s Threat to the West (Lee Harris)
Islam is a serial murderer of entire cultures and peoples. This is what Islam has done throughout its entire history. Those whom it does not destroy, it enslaves and impoverishes.
You would never know it from the corporate media …But there are Jewish people who are appalled by the Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians. UCI should demand equal time for Jewish speakers who do not agree with the right wing Likud party, AIPAC and the ADL:

Anna Balzter: /http://www.annainthemiddleeast.com/(her Grandparents were in a camp in Germany)
“Like many Americans and many Jews, I grew up with a positive view of Israel as a peace-seeking democracy. Israel symbolized to me the one protection that Jews had against the type of persecution that had plagued families like mine throughout history. I saw the Jewish state as a tiny and victimized country that simply wanted to live in peace but couldn’t because of its aggressive, Jew-hating Arab neighbors.
In 2003, during a backpacking trip through the Middle East, I began to meet Palestinian refugees from 1948. I didn’t know who the Palestinians were, or where Palestine was, and through my new acquaintances I began to hear a narrative about the history and present of Israel/Palestine that was entirely different from the one I had learned growing up in the United States.
My first reaction was disbelief, and anger. Families told me stories of past and present military attacks, house demolitions, land confiscation, imprisonment without trial, and torture. It seemed that these actions were not carried out for the protection of Jewish people, but rather for the creation and expansion of a Jewish state at the expense of the rights, lives, and dignity of the non-Jewish people living in the region. It was hard for me to believe that Israel could act so unjustly.
Not believing what I heard, I decided to do some research to prove myself right. Immediately, I was shocked to find how much I didn’t know about the situation on the ground. Not knowing who or what to believe anymore, I decided to go to see the situation with my own eyes. Since I returned, I’ve dedicated my life to informing fellow Americans and others about what I found, and what they can do to support a just peace for all peoples in Israel/Palestine.” Anna B.
I do not respect or equate my identity with what I think has become a criminal U.S. State…There are Jews and Israelis who feel the same toward Israel.. We respect those who spoke out against the treatment of Jews under Hitler (Sophie Scholl) and tried to educate the public. I will not be among the “good Americans”…and walk in the foot steps of the “good German’s”. There are good and bad people among all religions…Christian, Muslims…and yes..even Jews..
Funny you left this out:
850,000 Jews who have been displaced from Arab countries since 1948, according to the JJAC report which states that 97% of Jews from Arab lands have left their countries of origin, leaving a mere 8,000-member population behind.
“This report presents a damning indictment of the Arab world for the mass violations of human rights and for the coordinated, repressive measures to drive out their Jewish populations or to hold them as political hostages,” said Executive Director of JJAC, Stanley Urman, who listed intimidation, beating, persecution, pogroms and the enactment of Nuremberg-type laws among the State-sanctioned tactics perpetrated by the governments of Iraq, Egypt, Libya, Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco, Yemen, Aden, Syria and Lebanon.
“It presents a damning indictment of the international community, for its disproportionate and favorable treatment towards Palestinian refugees and their failure to respond to the plight of Jewish refugees,” he said, referring to the fact that Israel has become a safe-haven for over 600,000 Jewish refugees.
There is no such thing as Palestininians. Shouldn’t they be in Jordan? Plus, you left out the 7000+ rockets fired on peaceful people.
Did you really take a walk around the enmey of Jews, and keep you head? I call BS on you pal.
Don’t forget, Islam is a death cult.
What a a great idea for a rock band name. “Islamic Death Cult”. Yeah, has a ring to it !
Its curious that this quotes Anna Baltzer. If you examine what Anna says “she went backpacking through the west bank in 2003″ , you’ll see one of the most blatant lies told by her. In 2003 if you were Jewish and tried to back pack on the west bank, the kind Arabs of the area would have slit her throat and drank her blood. Anna loves to misquote history and acts like she’s an authority. With just rudimentary examination, you can pick what she says apart. The problem is that she is well spoken and good looking. Yes, she’s written a book, that doesn’t make her an authority on anything. I can easily write a book on any subject, that doesn’t make me an expert in that subject or correct in what I have to say. However, she has become the darling of the Arabs and touts their point of view. To her the Hamas and Hezbollah are just peace loving political groups not the murderers they really are. Because she is an Islamophile, and the left has grabbed on to her message, she is very dangerous and not to be just shrugged off. She is the perfect dhimmi acting on behalf of her Arab masters.
The term that describes them–and you–the best is kapo.
To democracydiva
I do believe that this comment quoting Anna Baltzer is probably written by Baltzer herself. She is the diva of the Palestinians. She is the diva in her own mind. Yes, she is a pretty, well-spoken, young lady and she has found a way to be the center of attention. She is dangerous and probably a little bit of a Stockholm Syndrome. I have been following her. As I recently became aware, she is part of a divestment movement to strangle Israel economically. She leads a drive to stop stores from buying Ahava cosmetic products. How can she be so certain she is right? She is young and relatively inexperienced. I can predict that she will look back on her life later and if she is at all effective in helping to destroy Israel, she will writhe in pain and guilt. Her dreams will be tormented. She will find no peace because she is on the side of evil. I can’t understand how she can sleep at night with the poison she puts out. She truly sold her soul to the devil. No way could she back-pack in 2003 on the west bank. I couldn’t even travel there safely in 1984 and those were the good times. If she did go there she was under Palestinian control and protection, before she ever arrived there. Under such a circumstance, it would be no wonder they would treat her royally. Here is a partial psychological profile on this girl. There is a high probability she was molested by a “father figure” and had a Palestinian lover. She hates her own people as a way of attacking the “father figure” or his memory. She craves attention like a child . Check out her facebook profile
Wow, what great insight into her mind! I would have never thought like that.
Educate yourself a little on the history of the state of Israel, gaza, and the reasons for the gaza situation. The “occupied palestinian refugees” are as much a product of the surrounding arab nations who caused the problem and declined to support or absorb them as of the Israelis. That is not to deny that their situation is not good. It is only to question who are the parties responsible. Israel is a tiny island in a sea of hatred with only promises of annihilation from their surrounding neighbors. So far, they are survivors and still maintain Judeo-Christian values.

The school should now be on guard for ‘martyrs’.
Free speech is one thing, but actively and systemically thwarting another person’s free speech and combine that action with a history of repeated, hate-filled viewpoints is another,
I want to know if the US Government is giving IRS Tax Exempt status to this student union. If so, then their “charitable” or “public good”, needs to be reviewed. I don’t want to think that I am somehow paying MORE taxes; while these religious zealots pay none.
Bet on two things: (1) there will be death threats against administrators but (2) we probably will never hear about it.
Democracydiva or Anna Baltzer, come on out and take us on. Why can you only open your mouth when your Arab friends are around to protect you? We are waiting for you.
Why should colleges be funding any clubs? Let them all be self supporting. You avoid a lot of this nonsense and save on tuition.
About time.
the college authorities waited 4 so long .long overdue.
As individual students, they can still disrupt speakers with all the spontaneity, design and planning of a rocket launch.
What this mostly does is make them victims for a year where they don’t get student fee money and likely not be able to reserve rooms as a student group.
In all likely hood this will just embolden them to be an “underground” group. The university will then have to deal with them one-student at a time through the campus due process system. Playing whack-a-mole with the ex-MSU, ironically, will then give themselves leverage to claim that they are being persecuted for their religion rather than their conduct and sue the school. The university just bought into a heavy long-term wrestling match with the students. I hope they have the stamina. They’re gonna need it.
in his comic strips, the late Al Capp depicted ill-behaved college dissidents in the 1960′s as members of the protest group Students Wildly Indignant about Nearly Everything which he abbreviated as SWINE.
Because its members are wildly indignant about nearly everything and behave in equivalent fashion, MSU should consider changing its name to SWINE on every campus where it is active.
My son wants to be a doctor and applied to all the UC schools except Irvine. Irvine openly recruited him; yet, there was no question about him ever considering the school. Let me make an important point here. UC Irvine has an excellent medical school; so, that was not the issue. What swayed him the most was the poisoned atmosphere toward Jews on the campus. Word reached us of intimidation tactics by the moslems against Jews on campus. Let me stress that my son was not alone on making such a decision. Many others who might of considered Irvine as a possible school simply opted not to even apply there or go there after the application process. Luckily many of the other UC schools were ready to snap up this class of Jewish students. The result is that the school has lost some of the most brilliant Jewish minds available. Lost to the school is the research, the creativity, and Jewish alumni support. Let me cite an example of what I want to say. When the University of Southern California wanted to improve its scholastic standing, it openly shifted to recruiting Jewish students. Guess what, the ploy worked. If you want to see what Jews can contribute look at UCLA and just walk through the campus. UCLA is also in a dangerous position now as is Berkley. Unless they shift their courses also, they will lose Jewish student populations and schools like Merced, Santa Cruz, San Diego will profit.
One mysterious blast set-off in the Campus Administration Building and the MSU gets re-instated the very next day after an emergency meeting of the Executive Committee.
The reason? Terrorism pays. Just ask Yasser Arafat. He had blood all over his hands and ended up wining a Nobel Prize. Muslims know full well that the western sheep would rather go back to their everyday mindless routines than risk getting hurt facing off against the wolves.
Let me correct something for you. The word wolves is a bad metaphor to use here. That word should be replaced by jackals which is a more accurate description of Muslims. A wolf is a brave animal and would defend its young to the death. Muslims are not that way. The west is waking up to the reality of what Islam is. You have no idea the carnage it can inflict on the Moslem world. What direction will you pray when Mecca is a sizzling nuclear ash heap?
Scumbag would be better. Not wolf.
I look for scumbags every Marine Corp day, and I profile.
Jee willikers Mahdi. Is this something you are concerned about or something you are hoping for? Please clarify. Thank you.
I recently rounded up a bunch of questions and answers from this Islam Q & A site. The answers from the Mullah were ridiculous. And not to mention hilarious. Everything from authorized sex with slave girls to drinking camel urine.

The best thing is…….it’s all true and straight from the horses mouth.
