Lockerbie Bomber Living Large in Libya
Here it is important to remind you of the lame posturing of President Obama, who claimed, after being prompted by NBC’s Brian Williams, that he needed answers to questions about the Gulf oil disaster so he’d know “whose ass to kick.”
Posturing or not, and yes completely lame, this was Obama’s best attempt at sounding like a tough, determined president.
Yet the administration appears impotent in the face of the revelation that al-Magrahi, almost a year later, is not only very much alive, but is living in luxury in a villa in Libya.
The question is, what did the Obama administration know and when did they know it?
The Scottish justice minister, Kenny MacAskill, discussed the release of the Lockerbie bomber with U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Attorney General Eric Holder. They didn’t protest the release; both apparently only expressed “displeasure” that al-Magrahi was being released early.
But nearly a year has passed and the administration has done nothing. Even though several U.S. senators, including John Kerry, Frank Lautenberg, and Richard Lugar, have called for a Senate hearing on this issue, none have been convened.
Obama met recently with British Prime Minister David Cameron. At a joint press conference, Obama said that “all of us … were surprised, disappointed and angry” by the decision to release al-Magrahi.
But this is disingenuous crap.
In a feature story in the Sunday Times, it was reported that the deputy head of the U.S. Embassy in London sent a memo to Scottish officials arguing against the release, but said a release on grounds of “compassion” would be preferable to a straight-out prisoner exchange. The Obama official said he would rather see al-Magrahi released in Scotland than transferred to a Libyan prison.
Now, this isn’t exactly hard-assed negotiations — by any government’s standards!
Obama could have talked with Nancy Reagan — she’d have told him to “just say no” to the Brits.
But even more damming, according to the Sunday Times, is that Scottish officials viewed U.S. resistance to the bomber’s release as only “half-hearted.”
Further, the United Kingdom has released all documents leading up to the release of the Lockerbie bomber, but the U.S. documents remain classified. What’s Obama hiding?
The families of 189 dead Americans deserve answers.
Now, we’ve heard some “ass-kicking” language directed at those responsible for the Gulf oil spill, but a more dangerous toxic blob was released and belched up on a beach in Libya nearly a year ago.
And even though there have been new revelations about al-Magrahi’s release and his health condition, all we get from Obama is a weak White House press conference.
A Libyan mass-killer was set free after vaporizing 189 innocent Americans, yet Obama can’t seem to figure out whose “ass needs kicking.”
I have a suggestion for the president: take a long look in the mirror.

Its all Bush’s fault if he hadn’t have been President then the Mohammedans would have loved us … whats that Clinton was President when it happened well the Mohammedans knew Bush was coming so thats why they did it what are you stupid or something????
- not forgetting the 11 residents of Lockerbie killed by the bits of plane falling out of the sky!
Not to mention the 52 French citizens and 7 Americans (including Bonnie Pugh, wife of the American ambassador to Chad, Robert Pugh) slaughtered by Kaddafi on UTA 772 a few months after Lockerbie.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTA_Flight_772
… we had skin in this game — 189 Americans (were murdered) when (Libya) destroyed (the Boeing 747 that operated, that day, as Pan Am’s “Flight 103″) ….
Sure, 189 Americans were murdered that day and around three thousand as the consequence of the atrocities perpetrated on September 11 2001.
But — and no disrespect to those slaughtered nor to their families — they were peripheral to what really happened on those days of infamy, on which days acts of war were carried out on our beloved fraternal republic. In both instances, that the most powerful nation the world has ever known did not immediately retaliate with MASSIVE force (think Dresden; think Tokyo; think Hiroshima; think Nagasaki) will long haunt us — and will cost us many more innocent American lives.
Just imagine if Obama released Khalid Sheik Mohammed for “humanitarian” reasons (afterall he’ll surely die otherwise) in open exchange for oil deals with the bin Laden family. That’s what we’re essentially witnessing with this sordid al-Megrahi affaire.
/Kaddafi delenda est
It isn’t “if”, it’s “when.”
Obama once again shows that he has the backbone of a chocolate eclair. I hope his wife and kids are NEVER on a jetliner like that, one that is suddenly and tragically blown out of the sky by a homicidal state-sponsored terrorist. And who answers to the dead? Who will right this wrong to the families of the victims? Whether Britain did this for oil or any other reason is inexcusable and they should be ashamed of themselves.
I would suggest some sort of Black Ops to go into Libya and kill this worthless piece of trash, but we have Obama as president and certainly no such thing will happen. I’m just surprised Obama hasn’t said “He feels the pain” of the vicitims’ families. Then we will have come full circle, from the President who let bin Laden get away in the 1990s to the president who let a mass-murdering terrorist get away in 2009. Hope the democrats are proud of their legacy.
Since the Brits turned him loose, they need to dispatch the SAS to Libya, to send him off to his “just” reward, which I do not think will be in paradise.
Actually, the Scots released Megrahi. Besides, UK-Quislings are too busy forcing SAS troops to train Kaddafi’s goon squads.

shame on Scotland: Thanks for the article link. Since the SAS is already on location in Libya, and finding their association with the Libyan military distasteful, perhaps they are in a better position to administer justice to Mr. Al-Megrahi.
And yes, I am aware it was the Scots and not the Brits, but the two are intertwined and equated as co-inhabitants of the same isles. The two countries may be officially independent of each other, but the political reality is that they are one.
The sober Scottish Lords– who patiently heard the evidence and convicted Megrahi– sat beneath the ancient Scottish motto “Nemo Me Impune Lacessit” which roughly translates as “Don’t cut at me and expect to get away with it.”
Last year, in a fit of delusional sentimentalism (or alcoholic dementia– or both), one drunk and disorderly ‘Justice’ Minister tossed centuries of Scottish principle down the filthiest toilet in Edinburgh.
No amount of magesterial posturing will whitewash this disgraceful blood money for BP oil deal.
Billion Euro Q: How many BP shares are owned by Blair, MacAskill, Straw, Salmond, et.al.?
/Kaddafi delenda est
The irony (apparently lost on Scots) is that Kaddafi was the IRA. Kaddafi financed, supported, directed, trained and armed the IRA for decades. They were among his favorite Marxist hired goons.
Up to 6,000 innocents were killed or injured with Libyan supplied guns and explosives. And many IRA bombs employed the same Semtex that sent what was left of Clipper Maid of the Seas crashing into Christmas dinner tables in tiny Lockerbie (incinerating 11 Scots on the ground). Kaddafi has accepted liability and responsibility for both IRA terrorism AND Lockerbie terrorism– along with many other mass murders of innocents orchestrated by his terror-state.
Kaddafi’s IRA proxies might still be in business if not for the tireless efforts of the Victims of Pan Am 103 to sanction and isolate Libya. But (apparently) no good deed goes unpunished– at least among the cheap Scotch-adled SNP brains of Kenny MacAskill fans.
IRA and Lockerbie bombing victims properly hold Kaddafi responsible for his bloody atrocities. They can no longer afford to ignore the kabuki theatre of Libyan state-sponsored terrorism.
Deluded Londonistani-dhimmis can blame America all they want– meanwhile the jihadists continue their demographic conquest of your quaint little island. Good luck with that, Quislings.
MacAskill’s “compassionate release” lie was a thin figleaf over a much larger ‘quid pro quo.’ The Lockerbie bomber’s release was yet another payment on Kaddafi’s terrorist sextortion demands that secured release of his prison raped and tortured EU nurse hostages.

FLASHBACK 2007: Qaddafi Wants Money and Lockerbie Attacker for Nurses’ Release
http://www.novinite.com/view_news.php?id=75328
“Muammar Qaddafi has officially stated his conditions for the release of the five Bulgarian nurses and a Palestinian doctor sentenced to death in Libya, a website of the Libyan opposition claims. Cited by the Bulgarian national radio, the site claims that Qaddafi has sent an official note to the EU country members and the US, requesting compensations for the families of the HIV-infected children and the release of the terrorist from Lockerbie…
“The UK should help with the release of the Lockerbie bomber, the note also says. He could be released because he has already served his sentence, or he could receive amnesty, or be extradited to Libya, Qaddafi suggests.”
=====
This bald-faced hostage extortion payoff does not bode well for Iran’s UC-Berkeley student hostages.
Here’s the awful account of the EU nurse torture ordeals from Human Rights Watch.
http://www.hrw.org/english/docs/2005/11/14/libya12013.htm
=====
Bulgarian defendant, Kristiana Valceva, said interrogators used a small machine with cables and a handle that produced electricity. “During the shocks and torture they asked me where the AIDS came from and what is your role,” she told Human Rights Watch. She said that Libyan interrogators subjected her to electric shocks on her breasts and genitals. “My confession was all in Arabic without translation,” she said. “We were ready to sign anything just to stop the torture.”

Read it all. This was the stick the newly “rehabilitated” Kaddafi used to great effect (along with his oil carrots) to castrate the West.
Westerners can backbite each other (Bush lied, Obama lied, Blair lied, MacAskill lied) until we’re blue in the face.
Meanwhile Kaddafi and his terrorist co-conspirators laugh their way to their Swiss bank, laden with jizya booty.
National will (and the moral courage to exercise it) that united and motivated our post-9/11 actions has been eroded by appeasement Quislings. That is the pox on all our houses of government.
Thank you for staying focused on the story.
The ‘transparency’ promised by this administration has revealed itself – it’s an ugly naked truth – liars!
For the sake of argument, let’s assume that at the time, the U.S. side had to accept at face value the story that the guy was dying. At this point, the solution is obvious – the guy needs to be taken out. By U.S. agents – Brits are not going to do it. They cut the deal in the first place, and still want the oil. They clearly don’t get it and are stupid/weak… Obama can still redeem himself by doing the right thing. I’m not holding my breath.
This wasn’t merely an oil-for-terrorist deal (quid pro quo). That oily BP deal was only part of Kaddafi’s sextortion payment demands for releasing his brutally prison-raped EU-nurse hostages.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HIV_trial_in_Libya
Kaddafi’s hostage extortion racket is the gift that keeps on giving. Let’s add up some of Kaddafi’s jizya booty (so far) for prison raping EU nurses:
* EU $400 million (includes Bulgaria’s $57M ransom)
* French nuclear reactor deal (+military hardware)
* EU free trade (+political normalization)
* New US Ambassador (+date w/ Condi)
* Obama handshake (+UN podium for Ramadan)
* $400K US tax dollars to Gaddafi foundation
* Trillion Euro BP oil deal (brokered by UK politicians)
*Lockerbie bomber’s release… PRICELESS!
[Once again, terrorism pays… handsomely]
MacAskill and Obama shouldn’t feel alone in being pubicly castrated by Kaddafi. The Swiss had the same experience this year when they paid off Kaddafi to release his Swiss hostages.

All the trouble and discontent in the world begins with
“…and the guilty go free”
“BP should face criminal probe for its role in freeing Lockerbie bomber, Sen. Chuck Schumer says”
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/2010/07/19/2010-07-19_chuck_calls_for_ag_to_eye_libya_deal.html
BP should face a criminal investigation into its role in freeing the Lockerbie bomber, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) said.
Schumer and victims’ relatives called on Attorney General Eric Holder to look into whether the oil giant broke federal laws by lobbying the British government to free Libyan terrorist Abdel Baset al-Megrahi to help them close a $900 million oil deal with Libya.
“No matter how powerful the corporation, how important the foreign government, a blood money deal is a blood money deal,” Schumer said.
The Foreign Corrupt Services Act makes it a crime for a corporation to give anything of value to a foreign government in order to influence its actions.
BP has admitted lobbying the British government to speed up a prisoner exchange with Libya, though it denied specifically pushing for al-Megrahi’s release.
Anyone with even a perfunctory knowledge of diplomatic communication will be struck immediately by the weakness of the opposition to Megrahi’s release expressed in Obama’s letter. President Obama and State Department officials in his administration know perfectly well how to make clear to an ally that a move it is contemplating is unacceptable. Just ask the Israelis. The failure of the Obama administration, beginning with the president himself, to make clear to U.K. authorities that Megrahi’s release was unacceptable was disgraceful.
Moreover, the letter reveals that the Obama administration (and, one must assume, the president himself) knew that the U.K. was going to release Megrahi from prison in Scotland. When President Obama said that “all Americans were surprised,” he was dissembling. The cold, hard, and shameful truth is that the Obama administration was in on discussions regarding Megrahi’s release and failed to forcefully oppose it.
Megrahi is free and will remain so. That atrocity against justice cannot be undone.
We can make sure that such atrocities do not happen in the future. The best way to do that is by holding politicians accountable at the ballot box. The president should be held accountable for his administration’s failure forcefully to oppose Megrahi’s release and for his own failure to call Gordon Brown to say that it would be unacceptable to the United States. Politicians such as my own senators, Frank Lautenberg and Robert Menendez, should be held accountable for failing to demand an explanation from the president for the weakness of his administration’s opposition to releasing Megrahi and for his own delinquency in failing to do what was necessary to stop it.
Ronald Reagan knew how to deal with Khaddafi. And he almost got him.
The Manchurian President could care less about any of this. That’s totally obvious.
None of this is a surprise to readers of any three of the recently published books, “The Manchurian President,” “The Obama Diaries” and “The Post American Presidency.”
Bottom line, Obama is an enemy of America. There is no other way to think about it.
If Reagan’s Operation El Dorado Canyon (’86) was successful, then PAF-103 (’88) and UTA-772 (’89) would never have happened.
Bubbah repeated Reagan’s error in Operation Infinite Reach (’98)– and reaped the whirlwind on 9/11.
Lesson Learned: Don’t miss… but if you do, FINISH THE JOB!
I’ll say this for Obama: He didn’t miss his targets with those Somali teens. When is billionaire progressive George Soros financing the next unhinged Leftist rent-a-mob rally against ObaMao’s summary execution of three (un-Mirandized) Somali teens at sea? Afterall, that tactic was clearly more “fascist” than America’s patriotic moistening of KSM, et.al. The one year anniversary of ObaMao’s high seas shooting spree has already passed.
Given the pass he earned from the international Left, maybe Obama can aim his shots a little higher next time– like somewhere around Tripoli. He’s already thrown Kaddafi’s crony, Rev. Wright, under the bus– take the shot!
/Kaddafi delenda est
Obama considers Megrahi a ‘freedom fighter’ therefore it makes complete sense to give him his freedom.
Good grief, I thought I’d come across a particularly ill-informed article on Lockerbie a couple of days ago, but this one really takes the biscuit. Where to start?
1) Not only did Jack Straw not “admit” that trade and oil were an “important part” in the British government’s decision to release Megrahi, it was literally impossible for him to do so, for the simple reason that the British government did not make the decision. It was a matter for the Scottish government alone.
2. Megrahi is indeed terminally ill. No amount of silly innuendo will make that fact go away.
3. As a terminally ill man, the chances that he is in any meaningful sense of the term “livin’ large” are – to put it mildly – vanishingly small.
4. He was not set free on the basis that he had “at best” three months to live. It was pointed out repeatedly by the Scottish government at the time that three months was merely a reasonable estimate, and that he might well live longer (or indeed die sooner).
5. While Karol Sikora may have been one of several doctors to make a “magic diagnosis”, it just so happens that his opinion wasn’t even taken into account by the Scottish Justice Secretary, who based his decision solely on the reports of doctors employed by the National Health Service. It is an outrageous slur on those doctors’ integrity – based on not even the slightest shred of evidence – to suggest that the diagnosis they gave “was intended solely to be a justification for a deal that had been struck between the governments of the United Kingdom and Libya”.
6. Karol Sikora did indeed say Megrahi had a chance of living 10 more years – a less than 1% chance. But I suppose the full truth isn’t so much use for propaganda purposes.
7. To the best of my knowledge, there hasn’t been a single “new revelation” recently about Megrahi’s release or his illness – just a tonne of American commentary displaying roughly the same level of ignorance as this article.
A couple of other observations – “skin in the game” is a despicable choice of words, and (last but not least) Megrahi almost certainly had nothing to do with the Lockerbie bombing. His case was referred back to the Court of Appeal due to a crucial piece of evidence against him being totally discredited. Had his illness not intervened, that appeal would have started last year, and he might well be back in Libya by now having been recognised by the law for what he is – an innocent man.
I think you’re missing the main point – a man convicted of murdering
over 250 innocent people should never have been released from prison
FOR ANY REASON! Why would anyone show compassion for a creep who
slaughtered so many people? Megrahi should have to live out the
remainder of his life however short or long, in prison (of course
he should have been executed in the first place).
It’s also disingenuous to suggest the Scots were the main driver
behind Megrahi’s release. The British Government has already
admitted they pushed this release to further business arrangements
with Libya. Obama, to his shame, meekly went along with it (of
course the 189 American vicitms can’t vote for him so why should
he care?) Do you really believe that Megrahi would have been
released if the British Government and Obama had strenuously
objected?
Your contention that Megrahi might be innocent is certainly
news to the bulk of the readers of this sight. Even if there
was any truth to this claim (I’m guessing there isn’t),
Megrahi should never have been released without a formal
finding by a Scottish or British court.
By the way, there is nothing despicable about the phrase “skin
in the game”. The author was just throwing it back in Obama’s
face – it’s a line our President has used on many occasions.
“Your contention that Megrahi might be innocent is certainly news to the bulk of the readers of this sight.”
What a revealing comment, given that the doubts over his conviction stretch back years. The Scottish Criminal Cases Review Commission is a statutory body set up to examine possible miscarriages of justice, with full powers to refer a case back to the Court of Appeal. It examined the case of Megrahi, and its report concluded that there was no basis for the court’s finding that Tony Gauci saw Megrahi in his shop in Malta on the day he claimed. Given the centrality of that discredited piece of evidence, the SCCRC decided to refer the case to the Court of Appeal. Approximately 2/3rds of cases referred back in this way result in the conviction being quashed. The appeal would have started in November had Megrahi’s illness not intervened, which means he might well have been back in Libya by now – not on compassionate release, but as an innocent man.
So your guess was wrong – I was telling the truth. Blame the hopeless American media for failing to keep you informed on such an important matter.
On your broader point, yes I really believe that Megrahi would have been released regardless of objections from the UK government. For political reasons which are understandably hard for non-Scots to understand, the relationship between the Scottish and UK governments at the time was appalling. The idea that the Scottish government would “take instructions” from London over a matter that was entirely within their own competence is laughable. London could, incidentally, have prevented Megrahi’s return to Libya as they control borders and international relations, but they had no say whatever over his release from prison.
Yes, the U.S. media is pathetic, but it does not change the fact
that Megrahi should never have been released without proof
being presented to the relevant court and that court making
a formal ruling. Without that, claims of Megrahi’s innocence
are just crap. The Scots or British never attempted to
formally prove Megrahi’s innocence, which they could have done
at any time. They used an obviously made up story about
Megrahi’s impending death just to push thru a slimy business deal
with the nutjob dictator of Libya.
I’m not an expert on the Scottish / British dysfunctional
relationship but I’m quite sure had Obama strenuously objected
to Megrahi’s release it never would have happened. 189 Americans
were killed in the bombing – Megrahi’s release is a direct slap
in the face to all Americans. Obama could have made life
miserable for both the Scots and the British Government if he
actually cared, which apparently he doesn’t.
That said, why would any American want to punish someone who
is innocent? What is gained by that? Remember, the excuse for
Megrahi’s release was compassion for a serial killer NOT HIS
INNOCENCE! If the Scots and British have a case for Megrahi’s
innocence they should make it now. The silence from both quarters
speaks volumes.
KDW, the Scottish government have scarcely been silent on this issue – they’ve volubly and repeatedly defended their decision, which as you correctly say was based solely on compassion, not on claims of Megrahi’s innocence (and not on ‘slimy business deals’ either). Clearly, some of the values on which the Scottish justice system is founded do not attract much sympathy in the US, but frankly it’s not for another country to second-guess our system. As for whether more strenuous efforts from Obama could have altered the decision, that’s a moot point. He does obviously have influence – not so much because of threats he could have made, but because of the goodwill towards him as an individual. For what it’s worth, though, my guess is that since the Scottish government were primarily concerned with upholding the due process of Scots Law, a stronger intervention from the US wouldn’t ultimately have made a difference.
You say, “The Lockerbie bomber’s alive and well in Libya. What’s the Obama administration gonna do about it? ”
Well…… If Obama plays true to form, he’ll probably send the Bomber a few million bucks as reparations for the years he spent enslaved in the prison.
