It’s sad to hear what’s going on in the Capital city of Sudan at this moment, but we can’t blame anyone for this epidemic. The world is evolving and more people are putting their values aside and adopting the western lifestyle. I personally don’t like it, but people should be free to live their lives the way they choose to, as long as they don’t hurt others in the process.

Hey nice article man, i am a cameroonian ( raised in the UK) citizen currently in khartoum visiting my dad who is working with the international community here. As a young party guy i am seriously experiencing withdrawal symptoms from the party scene so was wondering when and where such parties take place??

Personally, I love any kind of genre as long as it's well produced. However, I'm very much into blues, rock and dance music.

On the other hand in Khartoum, it's hip hop and reggae that usually gets blasted in those parties. Most DJs don't know crap about mixing but lately there have been some real rising talents though.

Be aware that heavy metal is a big fat red no. I get called Oreo sometimes by my Sudanese friends for being such a huge Metallica fan.

Interesting, good read.

How does the Sudanese "scene" compare with others around the globe? We talking Ibiza, London, Tampa, New York, Moscow? Majority trance and top 40 remixes, or is there another preferred musical style?

osama hassan, I think it's a bit of both. If you're talking about copying the open style then yeah those already inside Sudan are contributing to it a lot and not just the returning diaspora. However I'm not talking about mere openness here. I'm talking about the real hard core partying. I don't think you've witnessed it. It's those returning bringing that along with them.

Saun Wall, I'm in agreement with you there. As long as they don't get influenced or spread around the negative aspects, I'm all for it. More openness is a good thing. We're already witnessing some good aspects and progress thanks to it.

Uncle Jimbo, haha! If you drop by in Khartoum, let me know. I'm warning you though, they can get pretty crazy since they're very lawless if you know what I mean.

Can I get an invite to one of these soirees? I so enjoy Islamic extremist regime-defying parties.

Cordially,

<i>"It is infact the young sudanese (inside Sudan) who are to blame as they have been watching too much satellite TV."</i>

It is too bad that you see young people having some freedom from extreme religious repression and poverty as blameworthy not to mention a "foreign lifestyle" which it no doubt is to Sudan. It is going to be the ingenuity and creativity of those young people and their openness to new ideas and experiences (except the ones who get into the heroine) who could possibly lift the nation out of poverty - not the religious police and the government bureaucrats.
