If he traced them back to Carter, he needs to keep on tracing farther back. The problem began when Eisenhower refused to do anything in the 50s after the Arabs abrogated American contracts.
Anyone that suggests the Middle East’s problems only go back to the 70′s or even the 50′s has absolutely no sense of history.
Sorry, the Arabs have been trying to shake down the USA since the 1790′s. See the Tripolitan War, battle of Derna, etc. Where do you think “to the shores of Tripoli” in the Marine Corps Hymn comes from? Reagan’s airstrikes on Libya?
They’ve only willingly tolerated us once, when it was a choice between Anglo American vs. Fascists. And the Brits one other time, to rescue them from their 800 year oppression by fellow Muslims, the Ottoman Turks, nee Ottoman Empire.
To them we will always be sub-human infidels, to be milked when possible, and killed when no longer convenient. No diplomacy, left, right, or double helixed will change that fact.
And no amount of American blood will change it either. The only path to victory must be based on facts, not blurred by rose colored glasses. Their culture and values are their own, and not what we wish them to be. No amount of makee nicee will garner their favor, and repeated attempts lose their respect.
what’s up with videos? cannot you guys *type*?
It’s not that the medieval mind-set began in the 50s. By allowing them to nationalize the oil wells, Eisenhower created a situation in which medieval tribalists were granted an endless source of valuable loot. It’s the oil money that makes it possible for their religious fanaticism to exist amidst the trappings of a modern society. If the oil wells dried up tomorrow, in twenty years they would either be swallowed up by western civilization, or swallowed up by the desert.
Yeah, it goes back to Isaac v. Ishmael…..
The Middle East was screwed long before Carter.
However, Carter is the reason that the Mullahs are in Power in Iran to this day. That is for sure.
Ah, regarding some of the comments above… Persians are not Arabs and Iran is not in the Middle East. That said, I had heard of how Dhimmi Jimmy had arranged to remove the Shah and replace him with Khomeini. This is nothing new to me. What is shocking is that he used American taxpayers’ money to set it all up.
When he dies and is buried in Plains, GA they are going to have problems of ammonia ruining the grass at his grave.
Dr. Evans didn’t say the roots of our problems with Arabs started with Carter. He said the roots of our M.E. problems started with Carter and then went on to describe our problem with Persians. By that I understood him to mean the roots of our present day M.E. problems, and I accept that those roots are shallow and in fact have even earlier beginnings, but his point is taken.
If Obama plays his cards right, I see a Nobel in his future, and then we’ll all enjoy no end to his grandstanding. I’ve noticed in my lifetime Democratic ex-presidents do not go off quietly into retirement.
Of course you can go around the entire world and say who lost this country, who lost that country, etc and in each and every case you’ll find lots of factors. There are probably some Brits kicking themselves saying “if we had only listened to Edmund Burke then the US would be a colony”. I think Evan’s points are good and I’d like to read the book.
The whole thing’s a joke – its just such a target rich environment. I think the MSM has to cave and admit that Obama’s the lightweight. Judging from what you have seen so far, does anyone have any confidence that he could handle a real emergency involving global security or a natural disaster?
Shallow roots? The trouble began with some “religious” writings that took hold in the year 622. An inferior class of people was declared: the infidels, or non-Muslims. The very same religious writings that Islamic nations submit to today, whether Arab, Persian or whatever, continue to foster intolerance and hatred towards unbelievers, fueling violence around the world. Not understanding the depth of this influence, we become Carters.
“The Liberal Left and World Chaos.”
Kind of catchy. I like it. Enough said.
I don’t think anyone would dispute that there is a history of friction between between the Christian and Muslim worlds. The point is that when a resurgent radical form of Islam raised its head in Iran in the seventies, Carter signaled that he would be happy to roll over for them. Obviously we have no way of know what would have happened if he had taken a harder line against Khomeini and company, but we do know that the approach he did take did not yield the best of results.
It goes back further than that but President Carter undoubtedly made the situation worse.
Even with the whole Nixon/Ford escapade before him, I’ll never understand how a gullible simpleton like Carter became president:

Live in the past if you like. Score big time on the blame game. There is plenty of current ammunition with which to hit Jimmah Cah-tur.
Our current problems are, well our current problems. And they’re spelled “O” “B” “A” “M” “A”. This is the guy whose response to a near-nuclear state run by Moslem mobsters is to send them a YouTube video.
Compared to Obama, Jimmah Cah-tur is the egg of pubic lice.
@ 14:
“I’ll never understand how a gullible simpleton like Carter became president:”.
I’ll never understand how an empty suit like O-vomit became president. Oh yeah,,, now I remember… It was because of “Affirmative Action” that he got where he is.
If you guys think it is bad now, just wait until he starts pushing for reparations for being born black. Rumors around the barbershop are that we’ll be under marshal law by this time next year.
Affirmative action + ACORN + Dead voters + Donald Duck + Multiple Votes from 1 individual + Mickey Mouse + Corrupt Voting Judges Who “Find” Ballots in Back Seats of their cars + Apathy Of The Rest Of Us
And Carter (and later Clinton) took from our intelligence services the ability to have spies on the ground. This made it necessary for us to rely on the services of the British, French, Israeli, German and others. When they told us of Iraqi WMD we could not afford to take chances with the lives of our population, and we had no independent information sources of our own.
John B – an empty suit became President for the same reason a gullible simpleton did – because he’d been preceded in office by a disastrous Republican. Ford wasn’t particularly effective, and the Nixon stench and the Mayaguez and his own verbal missteps during the race (the “it’s a sin to the press only if the GOP guy says it” applied at least as far back as Ford, even George Romney) shot him down.
Bush 43 was a disaster (no other way to put it, he was absurdly loyal to failed subordinates, he lacked his father’s experience in handling the levers of power, he ran full-speed into stupid policies but stumbled halfheartedly when he was right) and Obama got a tongue-bath from the media throughout his campaign. It’s easy to see why people would vote for him.
That isn’t to say they were right, or that Obama’s not a looming disaster, but it’s still easy to see why people would vote for him.
And it’s ‘martial law’. I’m not expecting it to come to that. I don’t want to see Obama “fail”, that is, be dragged out of the Oval Office by his feet because he sits in the middle of the carpet all day playing with marbles. I want to see his policies forcefully rejected by the American people, I want to see him regarded with sufficient derision that the electorate will find it necessary to throw a bunch of Dems out of Congress in 2010 to contain him.
Enjoy National Swamp Rabbit Day (second annual) 04/17/2009. National Swamp Rabbit Day is a tribute to the Swamp Rabbit that scared the bejeebus out of Carter while fishing one spring morn.
(^^)
I agree, the mess we face in the mid-east has it’s roots long before Jimmah, but lets’ face facts, Carter is an Anti-Semite of the first order, and his polices reflect that, even to the point of not knowing when to STFU long after his day in the sun was over. We got Jimmah because of the sins of Nixon, just like we have 0-bama for the sins of Bush the younger. I blame the @sshats of the Lame-Stream-Media. How’s that “Hope-en-change” (TM) working out for you? I’m hoping for change in 10′.
To those of you carter appologists: Zimbabwe was also carter’s fault!

14 I’ll never understand how a gullible simpleton like Carter became president:
~~~~~~~~~~`
Do you understant how a “guillible simpleton” (which I think is a gross understatment, even in reference to Carter) like zerO becamse president? At least Carter had had four years as a governor (didn’t learn much though) and had served in the military.
Now we have the second term of jimma’
I’ve watched it twice. There is absolutely no mention of Arabs or the ME. Some of you have a problem with simple comprehension.
Huh?
“Dr. Mike Evans’ new book traces the roots of our problems in the Middle East…”
I comprehend that “problems” = Arabs, Persians, etc.
