Hypocrisy. The Bible, particularly the New Testament, says much about it, and none of it good. Jesus repeatedly condemned the Pharisees for their hypocrisy, calling them “whitewashed tombs,” among other things. One of the oldest books of the Bible, the Book of Job, has this to say:

But the hypocrites in heart store up wrath; they do no cry for help when He binds them; they die in youth, and their life ends among the perverted persons. (Job 36:13 NKJV)

Perhaps Jim Wallis, executive director of the Washington, D.C.-based non-profit Sojourners, might want to do a topical study on the subject of hypocrisy. As Tim Graham at Newsbusters notes in an item this past weekend, Wallis has been pitching a lot of Bible verses at congressional Republicans recently. Wallis claims, as Graham puts it, that “God Wants Socialism, Not Shutdowns.” As Wallis himself explained in an article at the Huffington Post last Thursday, he and his colleagues were on Capitol Hill last week reading 2,000 verses on the poor and injustice:

Christian leaders from across the political and theological spectrum joined together in a “Faithful Filibuster” across the street from the Capitol. For every day that Congress is in session during the shutdown, we will read those verses to remind our lawmakers that justice for the poor should always be our priority, but now more than ever.

Perhaps someone from the establishment media should go down to the “Faithful Filibuster” this week and ask him: If God wants socialism, why doesn’t Jim Wallis practice it himself? According to IRS Form 990s for Sojourners available online through GuideStar, in FY2011 — the last year that Sojourners’ Form 990s are available — Wallis pulled in more than $200,000 in salary and other compensation. Here’s a screenshot of his earnings ($203,451):

sojourners1

Wallis’ salary for Sojourners is nearly four times that of the annual national median household income for 2011 ($51,413).

Not only is Jim Wallis pulling in multiples more in compensation than most American households, he’s also raking in more than most non-profit CEOs in the region.

According to Charity Navigator’s most recent in-depth study of charity CEO pay (released October 3), the average charity CEO in the Mid-Atlantic region, which includes the high-dollar areas of New York City, Boston, and Washington, D.C. (where Sojourners is based), is $147,474. That means Wallis is making 27 percent more than his charity peers in the region.

But that’s taking into account all non-profits.

In FY2010, when Wallis made $197,446, the average non-profit CEO in the religious sector (the same sector Sojourners lists on their Form 990s) was just $90,000.

Jim Wallis, full-time hawker of “God Wants Socialism,” makes more than twice his colleagues who head religious non-profits.

In fairness, he’s suffered in the Obama Depression like all Americans. His compensation in FY2010 and FY2011 is short of the $218,162 he pulled in during FY2009. Presumably, one way that Jim Wallis makes ends meet in this time of economic downturn is through the advances and sales of his various books, like the one he released earlier this year titled On God’s Side: What Religion Forgets and Politics Hasn’t Learned About Serving the Common Good. Conveniently, you can buy his new book through the Sojourners website for the low price of $21.99. Add an extra $3.95 if you want the study guide.

All for the common good, no doubt.

So this clown wants socialism. God wants socialism. Obama wants socialism. Pelosi and Reid want socialism. Too bad. They can't have it. It didn't work in the USSR. It didn't work in China. It didn't work for the hippie communes of the 60's which generally collapsed because too many people shirked their share of the work and smoked more than their share of the pot. It is destroying Europe. It only sort of works in Cuba because you can live in a shack and be fed by the sea in that climate for next to nothing.

As said a thousand times on this site, what these jokers really want is change and a chance to grab power and control. I'll know they are serious about socialism when they propose that their own salary cannot exceed the average of all their constituents and they agree to pass the baton of control to another comrade after three years of service and then take their place on the assembly line making the people's shoes.

God definitely doesn't want socialism. It's absolutely no different from Communism or definitely not Atheism, and those are his enemies, not to mention the enemies of His followers.

Besides, if God wanted socialism or any of that, especially knowing his omnipotence he would have done something similar to this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M9TBx3ce7cE

For those of you wondering what that was about: In Final Fantasy VI (and BTW, major spoilers coming up), the main villain, Kefka, basically betrayed Emperor Gestahl and then moved the Warring Triad (the statues you briefly see in the video) out of alignment so he could "unleash true power." This the end of the world, as you could see from the video. Afterwards, the world is ruined, and Kefka, now a monotheistic God in the most absolute literal term there is (meaning, literally one, one facet, all of that), spends his time using a beam of energy called the Light of Judgment to smite people who resist him in some way. Keep in mind that Kefka is effectively that game's equivalent of The Joker from Batman, especially The Dark Knight incarnation, maybe at the very least the Emperor Joker version.

Anyways, I personally hated the Lazarus and the Rich Man story, even though Jesus preached it, because that story is frequently used by Socialists to preach that God must somehow wanted Socialism.

Jim Wallis was touted as Obama's "spiritual advisor" a few years back, maybe after Barack was forced to throw Jeremiah (Bullfrog) Wright under the bus.

Whatever it was Wallis said/claimed at that time, I determined that he is a full blow, card carrying wacko.

Socialism is a preparatory stage along the path to communism and tyranny. God wants freedom. That's why He rescued the Israelites from Egypt, and established His law among them. One of my favorite stories in the Bible is when Jesus uses miraculous powers to pay His taxes. Share that with the socialists.

"And when they were come to Capernaum, they that received tribute money came to Peter, and said, Doth not your master pay tribute?
He saith, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus prevented him, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own children, or of strangers?
Peter saith unto him, Of strangers. Jesus saith unto him, Then are the children free. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea, and cast an hook, and take up the fish that first cometh up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a piece of money: that take, and give unto them for me and thee. "

The apostle Paul puts an end to the socialist nonsense here, and no government is involved:
"Those who are rich in the current eon be charging not to be haughty, nor yet to rely on the dubiousness of riches, but on God, who is tendering us all things richly for our enjoyment; to be doing good acts, to be rich in ideal acts, to be liberal contributors, treasuring up for themselves an ideal foundation for that which is impending, that they may get hold of life really" (I Timothy 6:17-19). Wallis should be preaching the word of God, not of Karl Marx. See atruergod dot com.

If Mr. Wallis wants to try socialism--especially in a religious context--there is one successful version I can recommend. It has the benefit of being voluntary and has worked wonderfully for most of the past 2000 years. So Jim, join a monastery. Otherwise, leave me alone while you rake in your cash.

And even that only works really well when surrounded by a sea of capitalism. Which is why you see monks and nuns selling everything to beer, coffee and soap and now caskets in Louisiana.

LOL! Excellent takedown of the Sojourning Sanhedrin...nothing like a nice screen print to advertise the stench of hypocrisy of these leftist politicians operating under the thin veneer of religiosity.

I don't suppose Preacher Wallis is knowledgeable of the parables of talents, hey? Doesn't read like socialism to me.

But of course! Jim merely wants what is best for us while retaining what is even better for himself. He has been embarrassing himself for years whenever he opens his mouth. Not sure why he hasn't run for a political office ~ he would be perfect for the job.

The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of the blessings. The inherent blessing of socialism is the equal sharing of misery.
