Those favoring the vote are quick to note that the parents of the children in question are in Israel illegally and are therefore not subject to the same jurisprudence as their legally working peers. Jerusalem Post columnist Seth Frantzman writes:

Children don’t arrive in Israel mysteriously by themselves. Their parents came, with or without the children, and raised them here. That was the choice of the parents. The parents claim their children “have never been to the Philippines, how can I tell her she’s going home? She hardly speaks a word of Tagalog.” But whose fault is that?

“Flooding,” Netanyahu stated, was the foremost issue driving the vote:

We are witnessing a great and increasing illegal migration, mainly via the open southern border from Africa of tens of thousands of illegal labor migrants. There are those who say that there have been close to 500,000 migrants — and perhaps close to 1,000,000 — in the past decade. This is a tangible threat to the Jewish and democratic character of the State of Israel; therefore, we will make a decision that is balanced between the desire to take these children into our hearts and the desire not to create an incentive for continued illegal migration that could flood the foundation of the Zionist state.

The Philippine government seemed nonplussed over the decision, as mirrored in the Foreign Affairs Department’s issue of a sterile post-vote statement assuring that “undocumented children” will be repatriated as seamlessly as possible.

Ultimately, debate is passé and irrelevant unless an appeal pends. The backlash lying in wait will hit hardest when images of sobbing, Hebrew-speaking Asian children who have known only Israel as home are displayed worldwide as they are escorted away by Israeli officials.

The ten commandment clearly states that “Thou shall freely entereth other nations and breaketh their immigration laws that thou findest unfair.”

The jews are breaking their own commandmet. This is a disppointment.

That sound and fury you hear (signifying nothing)

Canada should do the same with the recently arrived 490 Tamils

The definition of illegal means NOT Legal/AGAINST THE LAW. All the rest, including the warm and fuzzy photo ops of kiddies should flow from that, and be viewed under that prism.

People who come to Israel ILLEGALLY are doing so at their own risk.It is not one to be borne by the gov’t, nor by legal citizens. Therefore, when people have children in a country where they are illegals, or bring those children with them on a risky venture as they enter illegally or stay past their visas, it is irrelevant to the reality of their illegal behavior.

The point being, Israel is a tiny state, smaller than the size of Lake Michigan.Israel’s reason for being is to remain a Jewish homeland for Jews from all over the world, generations of Jews coming ‘home’ after centuries of persecution. Therefore, ANY thing, ANY one who disrupts this delicate balance has no business seeking our mercy.

The notion that because Jews were persecuted, that it is their obligation to receive anyone into its borders is preposterous and dangerous. Our place here is NOT as a refuge for others(even those seeking to earn a living)but as a refuge for Jews.Period.

Whoever has a problem with the above should walk a mile in the shoes of our people who have fled hither and yon to FINALLY come home-the Israeli radical left notwithstanding!

Israel, has the right to limit illegal invaders,if only The USA had been as wise, we would not be in the mess we arein today. Illegals, seem to forget the laws they have broken, and feel emboldened by America’s government inaction, and feel free to march in our street carrying another country’s flag, while demanding more rights in addition to the entitlement they already receive. Our ICE teams, are hog-tied in enforcement of the law, by their director, and alsoby the inaction of The White House,Attorney General Holder and a woman, who should know better, Former Arizona Governor, Janet Naplitano. Miss Janet, moaned and groaned, at the Bush Admin when the illegals were flowing into her state. As Governor, she signed a bill to stop businesses from hiring illegals, which after being challenged, was upheld by the Court. Atty.General Holder is now trying to get that very law repealed. Why? How soon they forget, now Miss Janet’s story, is the borders have never been safer.I think all the Washington do nothings take us for fools. Lets show them in November 2010, that we are aware of what they are doing to America, by voting all e incumbents out. They are not for the Constitution,or the rule of law, they are for keeping their fat a##es in Congress, and who favor amnesty for the votes it will bring them. After that is done, lets focus on November 2012 to stop the acorn type action, of signing up voters who are not eligible to vote, but do so anyway with acorn and a few other groups help. Its a damn crime, that they never answered for their complicity in the abuse of America’s voting laws. WHY IS THAT! Acorn may have change its name, but have not gone away, they have several new titles, but are still up to their old tricks. I strayed from the subject regarding Israel, and its right to deport illegals, they surely looked at us, and made a wise but necessary decision for their country’s future well being. Too bad our leaders fail to hear the message sent by its citizens. We must all be sure to do our homework to find candidates, with the integrity we have long wished for in Government.

Ms. Kutnicki from Israel said: “The definition of illegal means NOT Legal/AGAINST THE LAW. All the rest, including the warm and fuzzy photo ops of kiddies should flow from that, and be viewed under that prism.”

You’re right! The Philippine government have prepared to receive it’s Filipino citizens & their Israeli born children facing deportation from Israel. The Philippine government have only asked the Israeli government that they be treated humanely.

Ms. Kutnicki from Israel said: “People who come to Israel ILLEGALLY are doing so at their own risk.It is not one to be borne by the gov’t, nor by legal citizens. Therefore, when people have children in a country where they are illegals, or bring those children with them on a risky venture as they enter illegally or stay past their visas, it is irrelevant to the reality of their illegal behavior.”

If you are talking about the Chinese construction workers, Filipino elder-care aides, Thai farmers migrant workers, your statement is wrong. They entered legally with a working visas & have overstayed partly because they have children born in Israel.

Ms. Kutnicki from Israel said: “The point being, Israel is a tiny state, smaller than the size of Lake Michigan.Israel’s reason for being is to remain a Jewish homeland for Jews from all over the world, generations of Jews coming ‘home’ after centuries of persecution. Therefore, ANY thing, ANY one who disrupts this delicate balance has no business seeking our mercy.

So you saying Jews should only live in Israel? And all the Jews born in other countries other than Israel, like in the U.S. should be deported back to Israel in accordance with the Jewish Law of Return?
Remember your history, most Jewish immigrants that entered the U.S. (and other countries) 65 years ago at the end of WWII were refugees.

Ms. Kutnicki from Israel said: “The notion that because Jews were persecuted, that it is their obligation to receive anyone into its borders is preposterous and dangerous. Our place here is NOT as a refuge for others(even those seeking to earn a living)but as a refuge for Jews.Period.”

Wrong again. It’s the Israeli born children that is the subject matter here. No civilized country in the world will deport their citizens to another country. The law of nationality Jus Soli applies even to children born in Israel of non-Jewish parents. It’s the conscience of all the righteous Israelis that is against the deportation of these children. Israelis like the Industry Minister Benjamin Ben-Eliezer, Defense Minister Barak, & Rotem Ilan to name the many if not the majority. Rotem Ilan, Chairwoman of the Israeli Children said “We brought these people here to plough our fields, build our houses and take care of our grandparents. And with people, come families. Ms Ilan argued that it was the deportation of children that threatened Israel’s Jewish character. The obligation to act with kindness and compassion to foreigners is the most frequently repeated commandment in the Torah.”

Ms. Kutnicki from Israel said: “Whoever has a problem with the above should walk a mile in the shoes of our people who have fled hither and yon to FINALLY come home-the Israeli radical left notwithstanding.”

Agreed, but please read this unknown history of the Philippines-Israel relations before the start of WWII in Asia when the Philippines was prosperous nation. http://www.jewishvirtuallibrary.org/jsource/vjw/philippines.html

1,200 Jewish refugees in the Philippines…….1,200 Israeli born children facing deportation?

God bless you Ms. Kutnicki of Israel.

Furthermore, sobbing children is the least of our problems. However, foes surrounding us in a vise-like grip should be front and center.

Moreover, does the writer really believe that letting these kids stay will earn us any brownie points, perhaps past 5 minutes?
IF past is prologue, surely this is delusional thinking.Regardless of what we do or don’t do, we are held to a disparate, double standard. We are alternatively demonized, held to a double standard and deemed illegitimate.

Therefore, why is it to be expected that granting these kids quarter will improve our worldwide standing? Besides, is it worth the huge demographic risk to set such a dangerous precedent regarding illegal immigrants, in juxtaposition to any amount worldwide kudos/atta boys?

  4. 4. greendalescott

As in America, Israel will be blamed for parental transgressions. No sovereign nation can absorb countless numbers of people entering illegally. There are laws in place…..enforce them.

    • Anonymous

If Israel enforces as the US does…fairly soon there will be standing room only.

Why have laws if you do not enforce them. A child born of illegal alien parents…should not be given citizenship. It is a slap in the face of the people that on a daily basis follow the laws, pay their own way in housing, medical, education etc.

I find it difficult to believe the Torah says …”let yourself be trompled on , day after day, year after year” Israle’s law is clear on how a child stays…

  5. 5. Grantman

Quoting from the LAT article, “About 400 children and their parents…”

So, it’s really families that are being deported, not just kids. What’s wrong with that?

Would that our own country would do that.

  6. 6. Emma

Says PM Netanyahu: “We don’t want to create an incentive for the inflow of hundreds of thousands of illegal migrant workers.”

Don’t you just love it when a leader has the mental capacity and moral willingness to simply explain logical decisions? Maybe sometime we’ll have some of that in these United States again. I hope so.

Childhood is a brief moment in time. They get bigger. And better equipped for murder. The child is the father of the suicide bomber. Toss them out. The left pulls every trick in the book to damage and malign their enemies. We see the same tactic here. Yeah. For the children. Everything they do in this country is anti-childhood but they get sooooo protective when necessary to push their agenda. Wish Israel would just do what she has to do and the hell with world opinion. The only time world opinion will be on her side is when she is killed. That is reality. Deal with it.

  8. 8. Calatrava

Poor Israel. No matter what it does, it is always accused of doing something wrong, no matter what.

  9. 9. paul_unalaska

UNICEF, selling empathy. The former Education Minister encouraging those to break the law and take/hide the children in their home.

This is NO different than our country’s PC politics with illegal aliens, bearing children in our country. Rather than accepting fault or blame for their decision and the often result of their child(s) failures; blame is placated to U.S. politicians, their country of origin’s generational systematic quagmire, their U.S. employer, sovereign border advocacy/ Tea Party participants, etc.,

Yes, many of the above do share a hand in our country’s current ILLEGAL immigration blight. Though thee illegal alien who CHOSE to cross our border illegally – is the bearer of all the above and gotten the empathy-train-a-rollin.

Yet, to be scolded by UNICEF and the former Minister.. is comical.

  10. 10. popovich

Well, as much as I don’t like seeing kids suffer for grownups’ mistakes, at the same time I feel that Israel is only protecting its national interests, like USA, or any other country for that matter.
That being said, I also think that some sort of agreement or 2-part solution should have been made.
For example, children who speak Hebrew but haven’t met the public schooling requirement or children who are in Israel for 3+ consecutive years but speak some Hebrew and need to go school, should be allowed to stay and work on the requirements until they have been met.
Of course, children with very slim chance to meet the requirements in next 2 years or so, would fall under the “deportation act”, if I may call it that.
This way they are putting all the eggs in one basket, so to speak.
Black-or-white solution is never the best one.

  11. 11. paul_unalaska

On a sidenote, when vacationing in Valletta malta last year, the tiny island was also having its far share of illegal aliens.

Being a substantially tiny country, their response to illegal immigrants? Repatriotizing them of course.

For allowing those into ANY country, these same law breakers bring the very same problems to their new digs.

Empathy is the moronic, self defeating ‘Spread the Wealth Around’ construct.

Why doesn’t UNICEF, former Education Minister petition/protest the 3rd World h ellholes Government heads for change? How about incororating SELF SUFFICIENCY to said illegal immigrants? How about getting a vasectomy or ‘encourage’ safe ex practices? I know, it would run against EVERYTHING on their charter.

Instead these same talking heads would much rather bring sovereign, proficiently-run nations down to the same squalor and ineptness..

  12. 12. paul_unalaska

    popovich,

‘Immigration’ standards should be cut and dry. The ‘homogenized’ idea you propose will, in a short matter of time (say, 1-2 generations as evidenced in the USA) will exacerbate the immigration laws and regulations. There should be NO leeway on the matter.

    JMO.

    • popovich

Of course, I was only expressing my opinion in regards to children, in case you missed it.
If kids (let’s say, age of 16+) should decide to stay, they should be allowed to pursue the goal of meeting the requirements for citizenship within 2 years (with aforementioned high probability of meeting those requirements – good or average Hebrew speaking skills, 3+ consecutive years of living in Israel, etc.).
18+ illegal immigrants and kids under 16 should, without a doubt, be deported.
And that, in a nutshell, is what I was talking about.

And if some Joos tried to illegally immigrate to a Muslim country????

  14. 14. Fred Capio

The tragedy is not having to leave Israel, (or the USA) a country the illegally entered.
The tragedy is having to leave the country oft their origin. Why are the left-wingers of the world not upset about that?

  15. 15. paul_unalaska

    Gringo,

On the contrary, look at the # of countries Jews have had to EMIGRATE due to Muslim majority or anti-Semitism…

Yet Israel is called upon to be all encompassing, accompanying by some of the very nations who despise their existence?

  16. 16. Khiri

Why would they want to stay in a horrid, racist, apartheid-laden hateful country like Israel? They should be running for the borders, hats in hand and a farewell-to-thee middle finger salute. (snark)

This is long overdue policy and (as Grantman stated above) one that we need to adopt, as well. Israel has to do what it has to do to protect itself. Idiots like Ohlmert set them back many, many years. As others have stated, it doesn’t matter what they do, the world will hate them. They’ll make up and disseminate lies to further their hatred. It’s like trying to get the mainstream media here and across the world to understand the truth. It ain’t gonna happen.

    Kick a$$, Bibi!

  17. 17. RebeccaH

It all boils down to this simple question: do sovereign nations have the right to decide who immigrates to their country or not? In return, immigrants must decide whether they will obey that country’s laws and enjoy its benefits, or disobey and suffer the consequences?

True, it’s bad for the families affected, but how can they complain when they broke the law and are suffering the consequences?

I only wish the U.S. would take this stance, and stop allowing the children of illegal aliens born in America to be considered American citizens. That would solve a lot of our illegal problem.

  18. 18. Aaron Byrnes

No matter what the concessions, Israel will never purchase praise and goodwill from the left. If Israel relents, it will not be credited to Israel. The left will move on to the next topic to criticize. Western nations need to understand the game of the left and be able to shut them down.

  19. 19. What is "Occupation"

    Tell you what…

When those ILLEGAL kids are blown up by the Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, Iran or Syria it will be ISRAEL’s FAULT…

SO better to get them out of there, to safety, ASAP….

After all the ARAB’s that surround Israel are itching to cause massive genocide on it…

And while we are at it, are not those ILLEGALS and their kids “occupying” Israel OCCUPIED lands?

    Geesh…

No matter WHAT Israel does it’s screwed…

  20. 20. Loretta in Indiana

Stay strong, Israel — you are doing the right thing.

  21. 21. paul_unalaska

    popovich,

With respect to your proposal regarding the displaced children, it may work in some capacity with a limited population.

Finding sponsors/families to look after the children/young adults may be somewhat challenging. Both parties in a myriad of ways.

    • popovich

Yes, you do have a point. But we are talking about 400 children (only a part of which would meet my proposed conditions, I reckon). That’s a pretty small number, when you think of it.
Of course, it would require effort and time from social services and educational institutions, but I doubt it would be a problem for Israel, if they really wanted to.
I guess it all comes down to what’s easier to do – putting some work in or just tossing them out.
But no matter how it goes down, I still won’t think any less of Israelis.
After all, they have the only say (and quite rightly) on what happens in their country.

  22. 22. Josh

I have spent the past 18 years of my life being an illegal – semi-legal or illegal immigrant here and there. I do sympathize with the children. I remember going back to our home country with our brothers and sisters who had been born abroad. Truthfully, we had always wished to return home. We had gone to schools that taught our language. We had never assimilated into the culture of the other country – and we were not legal.

I actually felt gratitude for the people of the country that we had lived illegally in for a decade and a half. They hadn’t treated us like brothers. But they hadn’t treated us like enemies either.

So I really have two questions in my mind:

    A) Were the migrants legally in Israel?

    B) Did they immigrate to work or to live and become Israelis?

If they were there legally and they had immigrated to become Israelis, then I totally am on their side. On the other hand, if they were there legally, yet were only there to work and ended up having children and raised them as Israelis and not as non-Israelis, then they still have a very strong point.

The problem with illegal immigration these days is that it is for economic purposes. When me and my family immigrated, we were running away from a civil war. Not for economic incentives. As soon as there was relative peace, we were back home. I am not in my country now only because I am in immediate danger if I return home.

So from my point of view, illegal immigration for economic purposes is … not really something that should be encouraged. The reason is simple: It gives people little incentive to work and make their own country of origin economically viable.

    • Michael Lonie

      Josh,
In answer to your first question, the parents were in Israel illegally.
“Those favoring the vote are quick to note that the parents of the children in question are in Israel illegally and are therefore not subject to the same jurisprudence as their legally working peers. Jerusalem Post columnist Seth Frantzman writes:

“Children don’t arrive in Israel mysteriously by themselves. Their parents came, with or without the children, and raised them here. That was the choice of the parents. The parents claim their children “have never been to the Philippines, how can I tell her she’s going home? She hardly speaks a word of Tagalog.” But whose fault is that?”

As for your second question, I see nothing in the article to reveal the private intentions of the parents involved. Since they came from places like the Philippines, it seems unlikely that they came to Israel for any other reason than to get jobs they could not get at home. Israel has a normal naturalization policy for non-Jewish, legal immigrants, but of course illegal aliens would not be eligible for such naturalization.

I am a WASP professional. I lived and worked in Japan for a number of years. Like most developed countries, Japan has no tradition of letting children born there automatically become Japanese. When my daughter was born in Tokyo, it was made very clear to me that as soon as I got out of the hospital, I had to hot-foot it over to the American embassy and immediately get her a passport, and do the proper immigration paperwork or risk having my 1 week daughter deported as an illegal alien. I was a guest in their country, so of course I did what was required. People who get their knickers in twists over the topic of immigration should take a look at what is standard operating procedure in other developed countries, and even in MEXICO.

To SB, WASP professional, you should read some Nationality Laws, your so-called SOP really. Try reading about Jus Soli (US & Israel) versus Jus Sanguinis (Japan). Orange & apples.

It’s reached the point where the cry of “It’s for the children” is the same as playing the race card. It means you don’t have any legitimate argument and have to resort to pure emotion.

popovich – Thank you for the interesting discussion.

Though I have to counter with, assume the Israeli Government makes the necessary adjustments to allow the 400 children temporary status and maintaining/meeting Israel’s standards – what will be the response when the next wave of illegal parents and their children arrive, and the next wave and so on..?

The U.S. attempted this game in ’86 and was overwhelmed by the response..

djkelly – I Couldn’t agree with you more. Empathy is SURELY the downfall of functioning, Western society. Pathetically sad.

      Thank you as well.
Again, I have to admit you’re right.
It is a slippery slope, indeed.

Should they decide not to, like I said, I won’t think any less of them.
      Cheers

Staying in a country illegally (whether one entered legally initially or not), is a crime. That a child was born is not a reason to permit illegal aliens to remain. Yet, in America, due to a judicial interpretation of our 14th Amendment, children of illegal aliens are granted citizenship. That Amendment was established to deal w/ slaves, not anchor baby children of illegal aliens. However, unless & until someone takes that issue to the courts for review & a new ruling, America is stuck. We all know many illegals have a child so they can use the child as a reason the parents should not be deported. And those same parents, if caught & deported, never want the kid to go back to their native land. Why? The kid is their in. Once an adult the kid can bring the entire family in. It stuns me since most parents I know would go no where on the planet w/o their kids. But again, the kid is a tool to them.
Israel has every right to send home illegals. And, just as this is a problem in America, it could be for Israel. The difference is, Israel is not large enough to deal w/ such an influx & so they must be direct about this.

  29. 29. Paul -Indiana

Israel, you are doing the right thing. In November we will start putting the USA on that path, too.

  30. 30. Akiva

If they speak Hebrew and can pick up a rifle, draft them. Give them citizenship after serving their 3 years. I bet they would be more loyal and grateful than some 5th generation Israelis from Tel Aviv.

As for the “undermine Jewish majority” scare tactic, 400 kids is nothing. Israel could annex the entire west bank and still be 70% Jews. The demographic time bomb is a myth.

And just like for the US, you have to enforce that border. If illegal workers can get through, terrorists can too. There are reports Hizbulla is sending people through Mexico in cooperating with the local gangs and drug runners.

As I recall, lots of countries don’t automatically grant citizenship to anyone born on their soil. In contrast, there are even some countries, like Germany, that DO grant citizenship to people of German origin whose families have been living in Russia for 250 years and don’t speak a word of German.
It’s a Law of Return, if you will, for ethnic Germans & there is no criticism of Germany for wanting to maintain and reinforce the fundamental character of their nation, which has never claimed to be the melting pot that America is.

  34. 34. Neshamah

Reporting on today’s “modern” banality of evil:

This is basic Nazi action in Israel without the conventional uniforms of the past. Kabbalah explains that the term/word “Nazi” (to be found in The Torah which is a cosmic code for all Humankind to unravel all that’s going on, not a religious Jewish book), in Hebrew Nun Aleph Tzadik Yud, is a basic, raw and unrefined human trait of fragmentation of mind (that leads to speech and deeds) of division and separation. According to Kabbalah, the opposite in human nature to “Nazi” is Mem Shin Hei “Messiah,” which is a finetuned God -like human characteristic and trait that actually practices unconditional love toward one’s Fellow Man, sharing and caring, being good and kind, generous, patient and tolerant.

Why deporting “400 children?” This number is a cosmic code as well.

The leaders of Eretz Israel as well as all other countries know exactly what (= NWO) they are doing:

from a “9/11 Tribute” book, (President Bush’s speech, commemorating the six-month anniversary of the “terrorist attacks” against the U.S., on the South Lawn at the White House on March 11, 2002):

“There will be a day, when the organized threat against America, our friends and allies, is broken. And when the terrorists are disrupted and scattered and discredited, many old conflicts will appear in a new light – without the constant fear and cycle of bitterness that terrorists spread with their violence. We will see then that the old and serious disputes can be settled within the bounds of reason, and goodwill, and mutual security. I see a peaceful world beyond the war on terror, and with courage and unity, we are building that world together.”

This from a man who said in May of 2000, “if elected, I’ll go after America’s internal terrorists?”

This from a man who said, visiting Auschwitz, “History shows us what is possible?”

This from a man who said “End the occupation of Arab lands” while visiting Israel?

And so, we are to think again that the Jew and Israel is our enemy when it isn’t…

I raised three kids on minimum wage and my ex didn’t work more than a month of our entire marriage, and so he stole our survival money from me whenever he could. That didn’t stop me from having my children with me and raising thems without help for seven years after my divorce. Why aren’t these children with their parents? Why aren’t the families of these children left behind by their parents taking them home? Why is an entire nation responsible for children left at their doorstep when the UN should be doing something about them? What is wrong with this world when blame is not laid at the feet of the responsible party THE PARENT?!!
