In Los Angeles, Thousands Rally for Israel
The Simon Wiesenthal Center and the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles staged a rally on Sunday, with thousands of people lined up for a quarter-mile to show their solidarity with Israel over the flotilla incident of May 31. The speakers were as diverse as the attendees — addresses were given by conservatives, liberals, Republicans, Democrats, and independents, many of whom came from different religious backgrounds and nationalities.
A large number of attendees told me that although they were Democrats, they would not vote for President Obama again.
Many California dignitaries were also present, but missing in action was Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. (Perhaps off to pick up his free Lakers-Celtics ticket.) Those who did attend, however, included Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, former Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo, Assemblyman Mike Feuer, Los Angeles City Council members Janice Hahn and Paul Koretz, Republican candidates Steve Poizner and Chuck DeVore, Representatives Michele Bachmann and Brad Sherman, and actor Jon Voight.
The event started with the singing of both the American and Israeli national anthems. This was followed by a chilling and emotional conversation between Governor Schwarzenegger and Noam Shalit, the father of Gilad Shalit (the Israeli soldier kidnapped by Hamas). Mr. Shalit frustratingly commented that his son had no access to the outside world and is being held by Hamas for political reasons. He further stated that his son “is crying to us. A silent cry from the depth of his confinement without any days of light … he is asking for only one thing — return my freedom to me. Gilad is slowly disappearing.” Schwarzenegger ended by stating: “I am a big fan of Israel, a big friend of Israel. Remember, I’ll be back.”
A touching moment came when Daniel Pearl’s father, Judea Pearl, compared his experience with Noam Shalit’s experiences. He chastised human rights organizations for “ignoring the most blatant and glaring violations of human rights.”
Most of the dignitaries that spoke echoed the sentiment that they stand with Israel. They explained that Israel is a great ally of America, that the blockade is legal and is necessary for Israel’s self-defense, and that the flotilla passengers were not innocent peace activists but willful violators of international law. Chuck DeVore summed up everyone’s feelings when he noted that Israel’s enemies “hate a free society, they hate religious liberty, and they hate people who will not bend down to oppression.”

You know, the more I look at Israel the more I think of Great Britain in 1940 during World War II. Brtain was all alone facing the Nazi onslaught, with the rest of Europe either conquored by Germany or neutral (such as Switzerland, Spain, Portugal, and Sweden). Britain was enduring the famous “Blitz” and was being bombed on a daily basis, suffering horrible casualties. The famous Battle of Britain was taking place and England was hanging on by her fingernails. But she endured and she hung on, alone. The United States provided as much aid as it could at the time, but the isolationist and anti-war sentiment in this country prevented Roosevelt from doing even more.
Yet there were some Americans that saw Britain as the last free outpost in Europe. If we lost Britain, the world would be plunged, as Churchill put it, into “A new dark age” and then it would be the United States that would be isolated, not Britain. World War II was coming and at least Franklin Roosevelt had the good sense to realize that Britain had to be supported, or else the Nazi horror would surely find its way to our shores, or at least pose a major threat to this nation.
Any of this sound familiar today? I’m so sick and tired of people in this country parroting that old saying, “Those who don’t remember history are doomed to repeat it.” People say that, but the rarely want to do anything about it. We MUST support Israel and we MUST insure her survival. Israel stands alone aginst a sea of nations filled with corrupt dictators and rabid Islamic fundamentalists who would like nothing better than to bring on another, and perhaps final, Holocaust. Israel is the only thriving and stable democracy in that part of the world, and for that reason alone we should stand by her.
So the next time the mainstream media takes sides against Israel, the next time you hear far-left loons bemoaning the plight of the Palestinians, and the next time you hear someone say that, “Well, Israel deserves what they get because they are really occupying arab land” (like, oh, I don’t know, Helen Thomas just said), remember that there were many people in this country who also wanted to turn their backs on Great Britain in 1940.
Do you have any idea what the world would have looked like if we had let Britain fall in 1940? Do you have any idea how much harder it would have been to fight World War II when it finally did come to our shores on 7 December 1941, if Great Britain had fallen like France did? Stand by Israel. Help her, support her, do not turn your backs on this tough little democracy. Israel does NOT want any troops from the United States and has always fought (successfully, I might add) her own battles. I don’t think it’s too much to ask that Israel simply receive the support it deserves from our people and the mainstream media.
Don’t wait for the MSM to support Israel. That would be like waiting for the NAZI propaganda machine to help European Jews in WWII. Just go around the MSM or run them over. MSM is living on a thread if they don’t receive a bailout they will soon die the death they deserve; no public support (no money) a black yawning hole leading straight to hell. They will only have themselves to blame. The new media is the voice of all free peoples that has more and more outlets everyday and thats why the evil progressive hoard hates it so much.
I hate myself when I do this–
a “hoard” is an unreasonably large collection of items, possessions, indicating either fear/greed or a mental instability. Hoarders have either ‘more than their share’ or ‘a ridiculous amount’ of whatever they’re hoarding.
YOu’re looking for “horde”, as in Mongol hordes of invaders.
You’re welcome.
yep, I hate myself.
Maybe he meant whored?
Thank you, Los Angeles.
If I had to describe my “status” in a single word, that word would be “beleaguered.” It is enormously comforting to know that there are people on the other side of the pond who are willing to stand up and support Israel in her time of need.
I would venture a guess that over 50% of the American people support Israel. I do, and I am on the East Coast. Keep in mind that this president is the dumbest we have had in my memory, 70 years worth. Our Vice President is an idiot. These sentiments are held by most of us conservatives. It has been established more than once that this is a center-right country. Almost all Americans who consider themselves liberal/progressive/pacifists are just plain stupid. America will wake up and I hope sooner than later. Contrasting 1940 Britain to 1940 American, at that time we had a relatively wise president. That condition is now reversed, but the principle is the same. Tell your fellow Israelis to have faith. Do not lose faith in the American people. It is as Churchill said, “Americans always do the right thing in the end but not until they have exhausted all the alternatives.” If we were to lose Israel, we would invade to take it back. A bloody outlook but true. I am very pessimistic now about world peace. Human nature is a constant. It does not change. As an example, I would posit the idea that America does not act until provoked. 9/11 was not enough. The lies of the liberals caused everyone to fall asleep again.
Have faith in our God!
The American PEOPLE stand with you. The American PEOPLE stand with Israel. The nightmare that is this regime, this president will pass. We reject Obama, his administration, the leftist-Islamofascist alliance that seeks your destruction and our own subjugation.
HIS will be done.
Sandy, I forgot to add that your PM is an inspiration to all conservatives over here. He is the last MAN standing in the West.
I would also like to add that the PM of Canada, Stephen Harper, has proven again and again his loyalty to Israel by standing up against the thugs in the U.N. Canada has stood alone many times in siding with Israel, even walking out of the U.N. when Israel is being condemned. A lot of Canadian Jews have turned conservative because of this. Harper is a true friend to Israel.
Ah ha! Now I know the reason our Mad Marxist Messiah was pointing his finger and lecturing PM Harper, his support of Israel. Good for Mr. Harper!
I’m in San Francisco and there was not a word about this in the papers here. What a surprise. But we are continually told by our local paper about the “global outrage” against Israel. We are still reading interviews with “peace activists” who were “beaten” in jail inn Israel.
One thing the left does not know or remember is that the Jews gave us our Savior Jesus Christ. I love Israel and would pick up a gun and put on a uniform to support and protect her. I have written to the Israeli Marines who were injured on the flotilla. I told them how much we Christian Americans love them and support them. I have written to Prime Minister Netanyahu and told him that we Christian Americans support him and his wonderful Israel. We pray for the Peace of Jerusalem.
SANDY;
Yes, I’m sure you are beleagured, you live with a constant existential threat in a truly frightening part of the world. But hold on dear, no matter what happens, there is Right and Wrong, Truth and Lies….and most people deep down know what side Israel is on.
The Israel bashers of today are like the hippies that trashed traditional American values in the 60′s….it was just too easy to “blame your parents” for all the evil in the world, because deep down, they know in the end their parents love them.
All their Fears of adulthood, their dissatisfaction, their angst and angers will be listened to, talked about, and “understood” by the kindly entities that actually care about their happiness.
Parents, like western culture, are always the wall against which they lean, while pretending to be “striking out” at its confinement.
They are playing the victim, pretending to revolt, experimenting with “courage” and “indignation” and “truth” and “confrontation” in the safests of all possible environments….a Western Democracy that incourages free thinking, yet imposes no LEATHAL penalties for political dissagreement.
Thus, bashing your parents is just like condemning the culture that raised nurtured and protected you. Its is mock courage, pretend righteousness and so very, very SAFE.
To call out, and face down, the REAL dictators, murderers, beheaders, bombers, honor killers, and the insanely sectarian, child slaughtering animals of this world is just too frightening a concept for them. It would mean the world actually IS out of control, it would mean their “parents” could NOT ultimately protect them whilst they thrash and complain of the “injustices” in the perfect, subsedised safety of the west.
It simply requires too much ACTUAL courage for these protected suburban elites (in both Israel and the west) to deal with the real dangers in the world. They become the usefull idiots of our enemies, while imagining themselves as “brave”.
I have been thinking this for years and as well as stealing my thunder
you have expressed it in a manner that is absolutely spot on!
These people have NO courage, NO morals and far too much unexpended energy!
They are bullies and cowards, full stop.
You know the UN is a…ahaha…the UN is…hahahaha…the UN…hahahahahahah…hahahahahahaha

Scott#4 Is San Francisco still a part of the U.S. ? I believe I read somewhere they seceded to better form a more “perfect” union with Santa Monica and Cuba.
Thank you LA for turning out to support our friends in Israel and showing that we as Americans support the only true democracy in the Middle East. The pro Palestinian proponents cite that the Hamas regime was democratically elected as a reason to support the Palestinian regime. Does that grant righteousness to the vicious oppression of the Iranian people by the “democratically elected” Ahmadinejad regime or to the attempt to annihilate the Jews under the “democratically elected” National Socialists Party in Germany during the 1930’s and 1940’s? The tragedy is that the Palestinian people are being ill served by their own corrupt political and religious leaders.
This demonstration is in stark contrast to the one ten days earlier. There was one hero there. Please view this.

More support Israel than one would know. The media is crazy.
As an Israeli citizen home before the end of the year, I thank those here for the support. I ask Sandy to have faith, to take deep breaths, and to believe in the power of the IDF to protect you. Of course it is easy to say from here – in one way – but I hope you will gather strength for the battles yet to come, as will we all.
I read in the newspaper, here in Canada, about a Canadian that was horrified by what the Israeli navy did to people around him. I forgot to mention that he was on one of those boats trying to run the blockade. Maybe they were rough with those professional protesters, but now those same “intellectuals” will have to think before they assume that they are above the law. If not, they’ll learn eventually. Like Pavlov’s dog did.
The bible makes it clear when God says to Abraham in Genesis I will bless those that bless you and curse those who curse you. The bible is the word of God. It was us Jews who did infact give the world the Savior of it who died for all of our sins. Just as Christ was hated so are us Jews hated for being Jews. Don’t worry we win the game and have the greatest victory of all.
As a Spanish and European citizen, just wanted to let you know that there’s quite a bunch of people here that still suports Israel. And it’s getting harder and harder each time, ’cause if you americans complain about your unbalanced media, I invite you to come and see the POV of our mass media by yourselves. All of them worried about posing as ‘politically correct’, always respectful when it comes to muslim world while constantly bashing christian and jewish ‘out-of-date, ultra-conservative, right-wing’ beliefs…
And of course, our politicians and elected officials always put ballots before principles. But yet, there’s some occasional light coming from the shadows. Keep always your faith, friends.
