“Matthew’s straw man”

This whole thread is a straw man.

“Who here said they wanted special attention? What “other ways” are you talking about and who said anything about this but you, Matthew, you fine defender of government employees you?”

Then what the heck was the point of the caption otherwise? I agree that the public service serves the people – that’s its point. But “and every other federal employee” implies that the servitude is more fine-grained, and I think that’s incorrect. Every federal employee has an obligation to fulfill his job description and follow legal directions – and that might or might not serve any individual member of the public’s personal interests at any given time. In fact, an arbitrary federal employee might have to pursue goals that you personally disagree with – but that’s perfectly valid if, by doing so, that employee fulfills a legal policy that the president elected to enact. One excellent example is the running of cam x-ray – something that’s definitely harmed US interests, but was legally ordered by the president. A federal employee who helped to set that up was “serving the public” in exactly the same way that an obama employee would be if he was implementing a policy that you disagree with. Taking aim at individual federal employees is therefore ridiculous.

The people serve the President and the Congress, not the other way around. Those branches of government are composed of individuals who, in fact, know better for you than you know for yourself and who are in no way obliged to serve the will of the people.

That is why some representative from western NY state can say he will go against the will of his constituency and vote for Obamacare. He has determined that he serves a higher standard than the silly old wishes of the people who put him in office. He is not alone, except in saying out loud what other legislators think to themselves.

In the current charade known as government in DC, notions of nationalism have been replaced with notions of transnationalism. Fidelity to the Constitution is paid lip service, while real fidelity lies with international standards. (“international standards” are those elaborated by 15 people in the EU & members of The UN and the World Court. But don’t worry about that, their thinking is so very enlightened relative to that of the old white men who wrote our founding documents. Just ask the President’s legal advisor, Harold Koh.)

Barack Obama has spoken of rights elaborated in the Bill of Rights, the first 10 amendments, as “negative rights”. By his intense focus on the domestic agenda (largely ignoring the continuously deteriorating situation in Afghanistan) you can see that his philosophical heart & interest lie in extending his version of “positive rights” which he sees as rights emanating from government & not as the people’s protections against government elaborated in the Bill of Rights.

In practical reality, positive rights translate to expansion of government into every nook and cranny of American life, extension of government control and development of government powers of “redistribution”, redistributing the nation’s wealth according to Barack’s personal definition of “fairness” coupled with control of the nation’s resources.

All the nation’s resources, physical, mental, intellectual, monetary, you name it.

(ACORN, one of the main purveyors of the President’s agenda of positive rights, has been caught with its pants down, but the prevaricator-in-chief has excuses at the ready for his own deep ties to that organization. He gets away with it thanks to the continuing devotion of the formerly mainstream (hopefully fast becoming fringe) media.)

Anyway, never mind that those old white men who wrote our founding documents not only didn’t grant “redistributive” and other such powers to the federal government but were hellbent on creating a structure of government that would preclude such creepy impulses.

Fascism was introduced to America after the September 2008 crash of the dollar and its credibility. It was done because then-president Bush could see no other alternative. President Obama has deepened this fascist regime by taking over industry after industry (including, now an attempt at the health-care industry), trying to restructure everything so that the federal executive controls how private companies operate.

In addition, as if this weren’t enough, he has attempted to introduce a cult of personality. This was the meaning of the Pledge highlighted by this article, and was to be the meaning also of his address to the kiddies around Labor Day.

But protests scuttled that.

Now a thought for you all. Obama has supported dictators over democracy overseas, both in Iran and Honduras. Why? He doesn’t want you-all to get the idea that the citizenry has any legitimate voice in running the country.

So far as he is concerned, you are just the fodder for him and his buddies to feed off of.

That is what you all have to deal with in the good ol’ US of A. I’m glad I do not live there anymore!

However, there were very good psychiatric reasons for not electing him to such a high office. His early history was not of a stable family sort. Thus, we do not understand his inner workings, much like a family that adopts a child and does not understand him, though they may love him very much.

In addition, by his own admission, he was constantly searching out authoritarian male figures to explain the world to him. He did not seek the advice of quiet saints who accept the paradoxes of daily existence. He sought answers and ideology. Now we suffer for his “world view.”

The next president should be a women, mother, and perhaps grandmother who is more intelligent and accomplished than our current choice in the White House. Stable background and family ties are indeed important. No more damaged goods.

Personally, I support FDIC chairman Sheila Bair.
