Immortality: Andrew Breitbart’s 5 Gifts to Generation Y Conservatism
Greg Gutfeld on his friend Andrew Breitbart:
My wife called him the wizard, for he could conjure up anything at any time with limitless energy.
As an enthusiast for pop culture’s fruits, perhaps Big Hollywood’s founder would allow a Harry Potter reference to describe the impact he left on American political culture and the lives of those who knew him.
During the final years of his life Breitbart transformed into the Bad Guy, a political assassin in the vast right-wing conspiracy who could fire lightning bolts to sizzle political careers and collapse Marxist organizations. He became the dark lord Voldemort, the great Boogeyman masterminding the Tea Party New Media Revolution.
And as with the horcrux relics of J.K. Rowling’s fantasy, Breitbart planted pieces of his soul everywhere. Now that he’s gone his spirit will exert greater influence. His seeds will continue to grow and everyone will see his touch from beyond the grave.
What will come? Here are five directives Breitbart imprinted on the next generation of conservatives.
5. Focus on the Right Culture War.
As children growing up during the Clintonian Age, “culture war” meant baby boomers obsessing over sex and fantasy violence: V-Chips for TV, abstinence sex education, Monica’s stained dress, Ellen DeGeneres and Mortal Kombat. With an economy booming and twin towers standing, the maintenance of Millennial innocence dominated parental political priorities. And so the conservative media critique remained for a generation.
With Breitbart’s rise, a new generation began to shift culture war to something else. Not Christian morality vs secularist hedonism, but universal American values vs cultural Marxism.
To see the Breitbart principle in action, consider Big Journalism’s recent fight to hold accountable Keith Olbermann for covering up the sexual violence of Occupy Wall Street. (Minimizing the severity of criminal behavior remains a preferred cultural Marxist tactic in the effort to initiate greater societal destabilization for revolution.)
A practical danger hides within Olbermann’s meme. Bad ideas have real-world consequences. How many future victims will think, “Well if Keith Olbermann says this rape-at-occupy stuff is more crap from this racist Breitbart then we might as well go…”?
That’s why the culture war matters. These ideas destroy lives. They must be stopped. But to do that we need to know their origin. And here too Breitbart led the way.

Thank you for emphasizing this. Too few are aware of this weapon of the subversives’ arsenal.
Too few are aware that the subversives do not think in terms of politics , they think in terms of war. They plan their moves with the goal to be able to impose their regime AFTER demolishing, from inside, the forces that could stop them.
EXACTLY
For Instance let’s review the last strategy developed in the Dem War room shall we. It plays out like a movie:
They place Stephanopolous on the front to lob a bomb during a Republican debate. It’s the contraception bomb.
Then Obama advances with his speech dragging in the Catholic Church, that battle goes on for 10 days or so
with hundreds of grenade like articles, the head of the diocese chiming in etc.. Soon every Republican is found defending himself and blabbing on about Contraception, The Dems advance with the Media Tanks surrounding them with cover.
Then Meryl Streep comes out as Sandra Fluke in her best role yet. She plays a young Georgetown student living under the strict tyranny of some evil Jesuit priests. She advances over the Republican army on a beautiful white stallion, the Republicans stare in stunned silence. General Obama helps her down from the horse, her pale skin dotted with red drops of blood, from the shrapnel the Republicans whipped around. The general carefully wipes the blood from her body and covers her with a blanket.
I’ve said it many times, until the Republicans start thinking in war like terms it’s over.
The fact is all those who just receive their news through the water cooler, hear this:
Republicans don’t believe in birth control.
You can lay the blame of the contraception to do that is now defining the GOP directly on Rick Santorum and his cynical playing to right wing fundamentalists who just can not accept Mitt Romney for religious reasons. Playing the he isn’t one of us card.
The class warfare and anti-capitalism rhetoric on Newt and then Santorum because they lacked the foresight and preparation and money raising so had to play the he isn’t one of you card. The two Washington insiders are also monied more than the average Joe but got theirs in Washington and never left.
Lobbyists peddle their influence. Glad to hear from Huckabee that the GOP is starting to coalesce around Romney, who is battle scarred but battle tested against obama machine because obama has been running against him in an unprecedented way.
You my friend, hit that one out of the park.
Exactly right and concise. Especially the stuff about Social Issues and Culture Wars, points 3, 4 and 5.
You can see how that shift has left the Left floundering, grasping at bizarre issues like Contraception. Gas approaches $5 a gallon and Obama thinks Free Birth Control and crazy-eyed Sandy Fluke will save him?
Another thought, Breitbart had fun with the Political Assassin stuff, it was clearly a good time for him. He was amused by his enemies and enjoyed destroying them, like Toshiro Mifune in YOJIMBO.
I saw him once at the LA Times Festival of Books, up on a stage with a reporter who disagreed with the him, but couldn’t stop laughing at his jokes. Breitbart wanted us to fight the Frankfurt School with a smirk, because nothing weakens neo-Marxists like a laughing in their faces.
Wonderful and very well done.
My only quibble is with “Now that he’s gone his spirit will exert greater influence. His seeds will continue to grow and everyone will see his touch from beyond the grave.” If he lived to 86 rather than 43, there would have been even more seeds. I wish he could have lived at least twice as long and sown at least double the number of seeds he did.
I totally, totally agree with BE THE MEDIA. Big time! I also think that if all Andrew Brietbart had done in his professional life was to get those activists into the ACORN office and do their thing –on videotape — he would deserve a major place in the real journalists’ and patriots’ Hall of Fame for exposing the drek at the heart of the Obama-Holder nexus, which is at the heart of the American system of “justice” and “social justice” during this gruesome administration of non-justice.
Just speaking for myself here, Andrew Breitbart’s influence in one life transcended the topical/political. I read his very revealing “Righteous Indignation” during a rough stretch in my daughter’s life and it gave strength for the journey, with hope that both my kids could win through their supposedly “typical adolescent problems” (at least part of which are due to pernicious cultural influences). This week I learned the hard way that it’s possible to love someone I never met, thanks to the part of himself he shared with all of us. Make no mistake, people I admire have died on us plenty of times, but this time it felt closer than ever before.
I want to “be Breitbart” now, as so many are urging. G-d knows I don’t know how right now, but I hope to come up with SOMETHING I can do to help take back our culture from the greedy, self-righteous phonies who pocketed it when we weren’t paying attention. Now that self-publishing and distribution have been made so easy, perhaps it’s time to dust off and revise that political thriller I wrote two decades ago and couldn’t get past The Gatekeepers (and I’d spent 8 years in the publishing industry myself). It might have been ahead of its time, too: the theme was vampire politicians.
We all have something we can do to help; Andrew Breitbart proved that, and also proved that we live in a nation of second chances and exciting opportunities. Let’s all try to be worthy heirs of his example…
That novel sounds interesting! Good post.
uhn……. I looked somewhere else while Andrew was happening. Sorry I was such a cow, will try not to let that happen again……
The moderate Left know a few things about themselves. They know they are timid, risk adverse, not media savvy and many of them are women. This pile of stink caused by the Rush does not strike me as helpful as all it is likely to do is to convince liberal and moderate centralists, that whatever they may think about the New Right and the Republican Party in general – they are not their friends. I understand a similar dynamic helped George Bush to be re-elected over John Kerry……
This might work, or Obama might go for another term……
Rush said 20 yrs ago,” If the left and the democrats tell you what they really think about the country, and what they want to do with it..americans would never vote for them”. Rush should have piled on the sleaze even higher, fight back damn it!! This 23 yr old co-ed was nothing more than a puppy the marxist through in the road to get mowed down. Rush mowed her good and now he is blamed; and then cowed into submission. Rush got played by the marxists.
Breitbart would be on every media outlet possible exposing this ignorant s*ut and her handlers. She is ignorant because she can’t find birth control for $9 at walmart, 1/10th the cost she payed (and she is a law student?), also a big deal (to some), just not being able to NOT have sex since she is unmarried and emmersed in her studies. Finally; we find out she is 30 yr old Womens Rights Activist planted by Nancy Pelosi. Wow! How did all the media get the narrative she was a 23 yr old co-ed? Where does she work now? For who? Does she have anything in print anywhere? Fight back!
Give the marxists what they think they want, ride this story until it is fully exposed as the marxist circus it was meant to be. Breitbart would keep it alive for months if necessary, and mention it at every event he participated in until Stephanopolus wanted to puke when he heard it. That it what is meant by FIGHT BACK!! Stop taking it.
The idiot girl (I want sex and I want it now and you have to pay for it) is 31. I would be so ashamed if she was my daughter and represented me.
Rush was not wrong to attack Fluke, he was wrong to attack her in a completely stupid way, that just reinforced the dem narrative, that GOP men hate women, and want to police their sex lives. Briebart would have done careful investigative reporting, to carefully expose all her lies, like her age, her motives for attanding that college, and her absurd 300k claim, and left it at that, with no stupid comments about her personal life. Then the dems would have been in the untenable position of trying to defend her lies, which were provable, instead of defending her personal morality, which is completely subjective. As it is, Rush’s stupid comments, combined with another guys stupid remark about birth control via aspirin, might have just gave the game away to the dems.
The issue was never birth control, and Rush was a fool to make it one. The issue is freedom, and whether the fed gov has the right to force us to buy whatever it demands, through health care mandates, and making us pay for free stuff for various people with our health care premiums, whether religious or otherwise. Keep the issue on that, and we win. Keep the issue on the morality of birth control, and we lose. Until repubs get off the morality kick, and back to the freedom from gov mandates, we will continue to lose.
Two big points to remember for this election. Its the economy stupid. And its about freedom from leftist control of our lives, not morality.
I just began to read and I have to say your beginning thesis happened almost immediately. A fellow commenter not 1 hour after the announcement of his death at Breitbart.tv changed his Avatar to the pic from the announcement article. I decided that was a great idea so I made up my own and included RIP to it. Then the backlash happened, the left acted EXACTLY as Breitbart knew it would, they went viral vile. The linked articles from Drudge, had 1000s of posters giving well wishes and there were 10s posting vile hatred. I saw on the one article where the exclusive interview with the guy in the bar had comments wishing the family well wishes and God bless to Andrew get over 500 likes in only an hour or so, get deleted and the vile comments stayed. I wish I would have been thinking to get screen captures, maybe someone can do a google cache search.
Breitbart touched so many that did not even know it. Now, I post with his photo on all my social media. There are 1000s stating that before he died, they never thought of blogging or creating their own sites and now they have stated they will.
Yes, he was abrasive to the left, if you think abrasive is placing a mirror to one’s soul. I have NEVER seen him place a video or smear that was not true. There are only about 3 leftist memes that the left has on Andrew, they of course are all lies. There is not one that stands before the light of truth.
I will now go back to reading the article, I had only gotten through the first paragraph before I had to write.
anthem.net has t shirts with Breitbart’s image. Other items will be coming.
Bill Whittle was right, the war is not with the government, it is what allows the government to do what it does…………the media that protects the leftists!
Culture war…..hmmmm, is that where the society creates escapes from reality, kind of like NFL, NBA, Dancing with the Stars, American Idol, etc? As for your question “American values vs cultural Marxism” there is no doubt where the media and the Hollyweirdoes stand. Tell me, how is it that Hollyweird and others have done studies on what works, yet they do the exact opposite of what creates profit? It is because they are not capitalists, they have a job, to push marxism. That is why you have NPR, PBS, and failures like Air America. They are and will always have to be subsidized, because they go against the manifestation of human nature, FREEDOM. Freedom of choice.
Other societies deal with it in different ways, Islam uses the fear of death. Communists use the fear of death. Fascists use the fear of death. Socialism the fear of losing your couch and your serfdom 500 sq ft apartment. Even societies of Christians and Jews use a type of fear, the fear of disappointing your God. Fear of the lake of fire.
Fear is in the eye of the beholder. To me, I do not fear death, I welcome it. It is just another state of being. I embrace it. Why? I have lived, why should I fear? It does not hurt that I think there is another state of being, another step in my evolution. To fear is to be controlled. To fear is to be controlled. I had to repeat that, because you must not fear, for that is the way to the dark side my padawan! LOL
What one must do, is embrace that fear, to WELCOME it. It is something new, something to taste, to savor, to………………..defeat!
Everything must be a challenge or what else is there? Sloth? Envy? Despair? Wrath? Sorrow or Pride? Lechery or lust? Greed?
Funny how all of the things that those cultural marxists include everything in the bible that are irrevocable sins. How is that? Everything that the leftists push are vile sins? It is not coincidence. It is meaningful. You must embrace your human conscience to understand what it means to be human. You must understand your weaknesses and overcome them by telling yourself that to submit to failure is to admit defeat.
Somehow my name was not attributed, this was my comment.
No
I’M Spartacus!
(good post!)
Andrew Breibart was Spartacus to conservatives but like Spartacus, I see no replacement. Mr. Breibart would walk into the lion dean of shows like Maher and win but I see nobody that can or will take his place.
“Even societies of Christians and Jews use a type of fear, the fear of disappointing your God. Fear of the lake of fire.”
This is a child’s view of Christianity, obeying the Father in order to avoid getting in trouble. Do you refrain from cheating on your wife only so that you won’t get into trouble? Or, do you do it because you love her and want both of you to be happy together for a very long time? “Thou shall not commit adultery” is a really good idea.
What about “Thou shall not steal” Do you refrain from stealing only because you don’t want to go to jail, or is it because you respect other people’s right to keep what they’ve earned?
“Thou shall not murder”: ditto. Also, Covetousness, respect for parents,
Whether you’re Christian or not, most Americans realize that if most Americans operate with a Christian mindset, it just runs better. I guess I’m sidetracked from our topic a little here, but this culture war is going to be an easier task if you work with “normal” Christians as allies and not operate on the assumption that the media’s caricature of Christians is (brace yourself!) not exactly accurate.
Watching the video, Andrew is absolutely correct, Hollyweird has presented a false narrative through the movies they produce. Just think of the crap that Game Change is going to present, that Sarah Palin actually did the things that will be portrayed in that despicable POC film. Heck, in the coming months you will have leftists quoting it just like they quoted SNL.
His breakdown of the Thomas Clarence “trial” is pretty much what cemented my views on the Democrats also. I am a couple years older and I remember watching the witch hunt from the Democrats, it was almost like we were back in the KKK era of the Democrats, they lifted their masks at that time like they are lifting their masks at this time. Heck, Fluke has placed the hair upon the soda can herself and have asked us to call it something else!
Now, if you look into the internet, the blogosphere is controlled by the right in participation, but the left media uses the leftist blogosphere to attempt to discredit anything from the right. They use anonymous bloggers to lie, cheat, steal or anything to discredit anything from the right. I have to agree that they have a strategical advantage, but I believe the internet is making a difference for the right. We are becoming more respected so to speak. We prove time and time again that the left is lying and that we are honest with our reporting where they use the Alinsky method.
I am only 20 minutes into the vid, I will have to take a break on my views of this column so far. Keep it up folks, we are all Breitbart!
The script was written and published in 1932 by William Z. Foster origionally titled “Toward a Soviet America”. Virtually the blueprint or map for what HAS taken place since. I inherited my father’s copy that I had seen around the house almost all my life and finally opened it, scanned it and came actross my father’s highlighted stuff. On page 316, of my edition, the entire mess of our education system is laied out. Even describes how all this transformation will be accomplished through, are ya ready? a National Department of Education. Many conservative pundits despairage listeners from useing the terms Marxist or Communist and I would add that there should be caution in when and where to use the term BUT Andrew was entirely correct in saying Marxism needs to be identified as Marxism, for sure they are not doing so in the schools.
Salute to Andrew Breitbart !!
I WON’T BACK DOWN !!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_IJw9jid5Yk
Well I won’t back down, no I won’t back down
You can stand me up at the gates of hell
But I won’t back down
Verse 2
Gonna stand my ground, won’t be turned around
And I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me down
Gonna stand my ground and I won’t back down
Chorus
Hey baby, there ain’t no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground and I won’t back down
Verse 3
Well I know what’s right, I got just one life
In a world that keeps on pushin’ me around
But I stand my ground and I won’t back down
Chorus
Hey baby, there ain’t no easy way out
Hey I will stand my ground and I won’t back down
No I won’t back down.
[by Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers ]
STAND UP….. SPEAK OUT….. TELL the TRUTH…… and DON’T BACK DOWN !!
Too bad Mr. Petty is a typical hollywood ‘Artiste” now,
and would object to his work being used by non-comunists…
Like the early Bruce Springsteen:
“swear I found the key to the univerese,
in the engine of an old parked car”
and:
“chrome wheel, fuel injected and stepping out over the live”
Bruce wasnt “The Boss” when he sang for me, he was just “bruce”
Must be that uneasy blue collar kid still trying to be “in” with the lefty college girls, he forgot all about wrenches, gasoline, and the dignity of individual creation in favor of The State providing all.
The sainthood of “recognition” for falling in line with the politics.
They both used to speak AS the aspiring….
They now speak FOR the oppressors.
I don’t necessarily think everyone has to feel like they have to be a new “cool” counterculture kind of conservative, but just feel strength in being who they are. It seems like he was being who he was, rather than the stereotypical GOP/conservative, but others have to present their ideas in their own ways. One thing everyone can take from him is to stay on the offense. He never played defense.
“…feel strength in being who they are. It seems like he was being who he was…”
That’s dead on! Also your point:
“…stay on the offense. He never played defense.”
and also to 13. JeremyR ‘s point:
“…he went out and did stuff.”
I say:
But never let them get to you. Never lose your cool or your sense of humor. When they get themselves all tied up into almost a state of epileptic fit, and keep finding that you are not at all affected, and still calm, cool, and collected, AND having fun to boot, like clockwork that’s when the really good stuff happens. Which, hopefully you or someone with you has gotten video of. lol
1w
Articles like this should really be directed all bloggers and writers like yourself. Breitbart wasn’t so effective because he wrote stuff from his computer all day, he went out and did stuff.
That’s where conservative pundits really fail. All they want to do is spew hot air, whether on talk radio, never actually do anything, except maybe sell their books and appear on TV where they grovel in front of liberals whenever they are confronted with a tough question.
When the term “conservative” is used to define Republicans and others of that ideology, it continues to play on the Liberals’ playing field. So-called conservatives and Republicans are the liberals fighting for a change to the status quo. Democrats, “progressives” and the hard-Left are no liberals but conservatives. Sticking to the status quo of union and trial lawyer financings, fantasy utopianism and crippling of free speech through “political correctness”. The terminology should be changed, one op/ed at a time.
“Minimizing the severity of criminal behavior remains a preferred cultural Marxist tactic in the effort to initiate greater societal destabilization for revolution.”
You’re joking, right? now that the radicals have become the ruling class, in Animal-Farm style (though gradually and nonviolently), the last thing they want is a revolution. Read Angelo Codevilla.
Also, what do you mean by “severity”? the radicals are only too happy to point the finger at criminal behavior, if and when it helps them to make a case for more welfare spending, i.e. when crime can be blamed on “social darwinism”. It’s when criminal behavior shows the failure of welfare spending, that it is swept under the carpet.
A Machiavellian can identify much better reasons to give a free pass to OWS.
To start with, the radicals-in-power want to portray themselves as centrists, so they need some sort of counterweight to the Tea Party.
Also, they probably think of the OWS radicals as useful idiots, whose protests gives them (the ruling-class radicals) an excuse for a further power grab.
Other than that, this is a fine tribute to Breitbart. I believe that reducing modern radicalism to cultural Marxism is to minimize the nefarious influence of the original Progressivism, not to mention dependency theory and postmodernism; but this is an article about Breitbart’s views, not my own.
What I don’t understand is why so many “social technology” entrepreneurs of today are liberals. Did no one inform them that the way the country is headed it will become more and more impossible to create wealth and keep it? That the Obama/Liberal establishment is heading toward collective communism while the communist countries understand that communism doesn’t work for the people and are moving toward capitalism, China and Vietnam only two examples. Do the Twitters and Facebooks think their immense wealth comes from government or do they just love to bask in the reflected glory of the first popstar president?
I just don’t understand.
“What I don’t understand is why so many “social technology” entrepreneurs of today are liberals.”
Those who developed the ability to understand and manipulate the technological biases of the internet did so within a specific cultural environment: the so-called “hacker ethos.” This cultural/philosophical/political ideology has a utopianism at its core, thus many of the internet and tech and new media types drift toward Obama. (Also drifting in that direction makes sense in the short term for their business — though obviously not in the long term.)
