Hugh Hewitt at BlogWorld 2010: ‘The Blog Revolution Is Over’

Two interviews taken from this past weekend’s BlogWorld and New Media Expo help to place the Blogosphere into context within the sprawling world of new media. First up, recorded on Friday, October 15th, Hugh Hewitt tells PJM’s Ed Driscoll that when he wrote his book Blog: Understanding the Information Reformation That’s Changing Your World, which was published in early 2005:
I did not expect anything of the sort like Twitter. I did expect the Blog revolution to come. I thought it would last longer — it’s over, basically. It has become reabsorbed into larger media platforms, and the byline remains the brand, very much.
Listen to the whole thing, for Hugh’s thoughts on the new media world in which the Blogosphere operates within — as well as his take on the GOP and the November midterms, and beyond.
Ed’s interview with Hugh is followed by his conversation with BlogWorld CEO and founder Rick Calvert, recorded immediately after Blog World concluded the following afternoon. Rick offers his first thoughts on the weekend, and whether or not there will be a Blog World 2011. Thirteen minutes long; click here to listen:

I like Hugh, but he’s a little cynical. Put together all the little blogs and you have quite an empire. I’m not sure Hugh is even aware of that.
Like Glenn Beck, Hugh Hewett is a real gentleman and a helluva nice guy, and I have the highest respect and admiration for the manner in which he presents himself and his viewpoints. But he is wrong on this one.
I suspect that the reason why he receives so few hits on his website is because he has one of the worst designed and worst constructed websites on the internet. It would be an understatement to say that it is a nuisance to post comments on his website, which explains, of course, why it is #50 on the list of the top 50 conservative websites. So he shouldn’t be judging the future of the blogospere by the negligible and diminishing number of hits that he is getting on his own blog.
Hugh’s best buddy seems to be Erwin Chemerinsky. Hugh Hewitt and Michael Medved are to conservative talk radio what Lindsey Graham and John McCain are to the Senate. Rinos that need to go. So, maybe it’s not his website but his message.
At best, your comments are disingenuous and unfair. Don’t think that, because Hugh is very laid back and because he isn’t as aggressive as Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are that he isn’t a hardcore conservative. I have heard him bait clever Democrats, draw them in and then slam the trap on them, making them look ridiculous in a nice, polite way. Erwin is a friend of his. There is nothing wrong with that. Hugh and Rush have different styles. That doesn’t make Hugh any less dedicated to the cause of getting Rhinos and Progressives out of Congress and the White House. (And BTW, Hugh sure as hell ain’t a Rino, that’s for damned sure.)
Thanks, very interesting interviews.
I am opposed to both legal and illegal immigration. This country is overpopulated, and 21 million Americans are out of work.
