The Rightosphere Copes with Defeat

The good news is that perhaps this will be the death of the McCain Republicans and reclaim the party for conservative principles. A message was sent to the GOP, and I hope they got it. Also, can this finally be the end of the AmeriKKKa crap? A black man just broke the highest ceiling in the country. Any person, regardless of age, sex, or gender, can do anything they want to in this country if they’re willing to work hard enough for it. Barack Obama just proved that. So let’s close that racism chapter, hmm?

I think this election is going to be a “coming of age” moment for a lot of people. They say, “Be careful what you wish for,” and a lot of people got their wish yesterday.
And now they’re bound to be disappointed. Not even Jesus could satisfy all the expectations of Obama’s most vocal supporters or fulfill all the promises Obama has made.
I think Obama is going to turn out to be the worst president since Carter, and for the same reason: good intentions do not guarantee good results. Idealists often stub their toes on the wayward rocks of reality, and fall on their faces. And the world doesn’t respond to benign behavior benignly.

OK, so we just re-elected Carter.
How bad were the late 70s, anyways? They gave us the Sex Pistols, Blondie, and the Talking Heads. And Star Wars. And Apocalypse Now.
And the Ayatollah Khomeni. And long, long gas lines. And runaway inflation. And disco.
Dear Lord, can this country stand four more years of disco?

One of the last things Dean Barnett said to me was that, as best he could tell, Barack Obama is “a good guy and a decent man.” I don’t think he’d mind me telling you that, especially under the circumstances. It’s a testament to his generosity of spirit that even in the heat of a campaign, with every reason to think the worst of his opponent, Dean couldn’t help but give him the benefit of the doubt. That’s Barnett all over, and that’s what made him an indispensable man whom we’ve been forced, horrendously, to dispense with.
I offer that as comfort to those of you who have no faith in The One but who do have faith in, and abiding affection for, DB. My guess is he’d have handled the news tonight with the same magnanimity that distinguished all of his writing. So in that spirit, congratulations to Barry O on a race superbly run and to our country for not having let the wrong reasons deter it from making the wrong choice. I’ll never be a fan, but I swear I’ll never take a nutroots posture either in relishing his failures because it helps my party. Like it or not, he’s my president. As a great man once said, country first.

I’m off to the mall to sell razor blades so people can scrape off their “Question Authority” bumper stickers. Just remember: Dissent is still the highest form of patriotism. Except now it will be practiced by the lowest form of people.

There are people lowdown enough to know in advance who and what was elected yesterday, and to have voted for the Moonbat Messiah anyway. What they have done to this country is beyond forgiveness.
But an ultra-radical leftist like Obama could not be elected in a center-right country, or even a center-left country, without a great deal of deception. Thanks to a radicalized liberal media willing to sacrifice its own long-term credibility to put a leftist in power, Obama was never publicly vetted. Moderates did not vote for a real person, but for a two-dimensional phantom temporarily conjured into being by hype. …
Bush’s subpar performance will soon fade from memory, as Obama’s malignant collectivist ideology and lack of qualifications become impossible for the media to hide. One way or another, the full extent of his radical past and associations will become public knowledge. As promised by Plugs Biden, Obama will be tested, and he isn’t likely to pass.

The economic global meltdown is only just starting to roll: if you think the subprime mortgage crisis was the biggie, just wait until you see the fallout from the fun and frolics of the impending mess in other areas, such as debt swaps. This is all going to get worse, a lot worse, and Obama is going to do absolutely everything to dig the holes deeper. Looking back on this period ten to twenty years from now, the Republicans crying into their beer tonight will be saying, “Thank Christ it was not us in office then.”
The lesser evil is not going to win this time and much as it may not seem that way now — or any time soon I suspect — in the long run this has a far, far better chance of leading to the rebirth of a genuine pro-liberty, pro-market political culture, something which the gradual incremental surrender of recent times made impossible (such as the “pragmatic voting” of people who want a smaller state for Republican candidates who ended up growing the regulatory state).

I mentioned how rudderless the McCain campaign was, because nothing with McCain is clear. There is no “McCainism” as there was a “Bushism” or “Reaganism.” Those men offered fairly clear visions (well, Reagan particularly so). Not McCain. Everything with him is just his personal gut, principle-free, just an instinct, an impulse, which often takes him in wildly contradictory places (but he’s always haughty about the moral superiority of his decisions).
For example, he’s pro-drilling … but not in ANWR. Um, why? He’s forever undercutting himself with unexplained hedges and caveats.
He’s pro-business … kinda. Except when he’s making his distaste for anyone working in the private sector “for profit not patriotism” so glaringly evident.
He wants to lower taxes. Sorta. Sometimes. Maybe. In election years.
We must regard Obama as suspect because of his association with the terrorist Bill Ayers … but it’s racist to mention his membership in Jeremiah Wright’s Church of Hate.
This leads to a paralysis among his campaign staff. Everyone knew, pretty much, the Idea of Reagan. They could act independently with confidence that they were advancing Reagan’s goals.
No one could do that with McCain.

The problem for us is … basic — the Dems control the language on such issues (“count every vote”, etc.), and they’re much better at demonizing. Why did McCain talk about Ayers but not even mention Wright? Because he was terrified someone would point a finger and cry “Racist!” And in four years’ time the Democrats’ media-cultural-organizational advantage on such subjects will likely be even greater. The salient feature of Ron Jones’ brief appearance on TV yesterday is not that Mr. Jones voted “a couple of times” in Philadelphia nor even that he was entirely comfortable about admitting as much on TV, but that CNN’s Brian Todd beamed indulgently and said, “I think that’s against the law but it’s okay.” That’s the way large numbers of the American people feel about ACORN, the Undocumented Auntie, foreign donations, and much else: it may be against the law but it’s okay.
So I think our energies would be better focused on examining where we went wrong than in objecting to where the other guys went right. We need to rediscover a coherent conservatism and find someone who can pitch it to sufficient numbers of people. We didn’t have either in this campaign.

SOme of the reasoned comments seen on this site:
- Do not receive the mark of the beast, do not let your children receive the mark
- The elections of 2012 are very unlikely to happen, Obama’s dictatorship will be complete by then
- Obama intends to set up a US version of the Stasi.
Something tells me this is not the time to be polite. Thus, my congratulations will go unsaid. I think not because I’m a poor sport; it’s not a case of sour grapes because I’ve always been one of the first to congratulate my opponents be they in the political field or on the sports field. But not this time. Because this time my opponent was, as I see it, evil.
Barack Obama’s lies extended from disowning preachers and grandmothers to unconditional face to face meetings with people who want to wipe Israel from the face of the map. He’s the kind of liar, to me, that can’t be trusted with my country.
His intent is to spread the wealth. Tax the people till there’s no more ketchup in the bottle. Tax capital gains at almost as exorbitant a rate as he’s slaughtering the unborn.
Evil tries to silence dialogue. Evil burns books. Evil puts talk radio out of business. Evil silences opposition.
Did they congratulate Stalin the day after the election. Or Lenin. Or Hitler. Some did. My great grandfather didn’t.
Maybe I’m wrong. Maybe Barack is just a liberal guy in the right place at the right time whose DNA doesn’t contain a penchant for harm, or evil.
But I don’t think so.
No, Barry, no congratulations for you. I don’t trust you with my country. Or my friends. Or my kids.
I absolutely refuse to give up my guns. I love to hunt but now with Obambam in office, I have to hone in on my skills because he will destroy us from the inside. Khalidi and all Arabs call our government the belly of the beast. The beast meaning America. Obama is great friends with Khalidi and Ayers whom both are terrorists and will be part of Obama’s appointed officials. So therefore, we will have bombings and racial riots again. We will be fighting a civil war again soon. Not this year or next but Obambam is going to DESENSITIZE us first then go for the jugglar. Therefore, I will have to learn anti-terrorism and urban warfare. I am to old to join the marines but I can still learn how they protect us. You should learn too.
Selective picking, John.
Did you read the comments on my PJM article yesterday?
Rachel – Hitler? Stalin? Really? You’re as bad as the Bush/Hitler wingnuts you probably hate.
Had this been an honest victory I would have offered congratulations, but tend to agree with Rachel (5).
I have not offered congratulations because I cannot condone the corruption of our political process. ACORN voter fraud, Obama’s campaign finance and credit card contribution, from the media bias, cheerleading, and dereliction of duty, sequestering of records and information…. No, it is not OK. This is banana republic stuff. It is not honorable. It is not good for the country. It is dishonorable to turn a blind eye to it.
There is nothing gracious about congratulating any of the coming thugocracy and government coercion. They have shown their totalitarian stripe. After eight years of Democrat malice, hate, and attempts to undermine our soldiers, and efforts to block any sort of governmental reform, I simply do not trust these people.
Of course there are no conservatives threatening to move overseas because the left and or radical Islam has already taken over every other square inch of real estate on earth. There is no place left for us to run to.
So, we either convert, fight toward the next election, or die. Of course on the way to doing any one of those three there is certainly nothing wrong with recognizing this historic nature of the election. In many ways, it proves that conservatives are correct (anyone can grow up to be president — well, at least any man).
No, conservatives are now too busy attacking each other. They’ve formed a circular firing squad and are now blaming the election results on Bush, on McCain, on Palin, on the social conservatives and on RINOs.
One thing I do admire on the Left – their ability to stay focused. They were as upset after the ’02 and ’04 elections as we are now. But did that lead to any soul-searching? Hell, no, they simply continued to blame Bush for everything in world and redoubled their efforts to beat Republicans. I never heard a Dem condemn Daily Kos, HuffPo, or any Democratic politicans except for Lieberman and Hillary during the primaries. They don’t devour their own, nor do they question sleazy tactics on their side. And so they win.
If there’s one thing this election has made clear, it’s that playing nice gets you nowhere. Heck, Murtha insulted the people in his own distinct and still got reelected.
Rachel, your candidate was rejected fair and square as was your ideology.
You seem to have anger management issues you need to deal with.
As for crazed comparisons with Stalin, Hitler, and Lenin – just how low can Republicans like you stoop, and how detached from reality can you get?
Hey, the left screamed Bush=Hitler for 8 years. Reality is what you make of it.
Re: #5
Rachel Peepers has spoken as if she has read my mind. No congrats are in order this time. The man was a fraud as he ran for office, he’s not suddenly an “honest politician” now. Wasn’t there an old saw that said something about leopards and spots?
What I find bothersome is how those with room temp IQs are going to deal with the reality to come. They actually are planning on all the freebies they believe Obama promised them. Will there still be riots when the black masses have to face their disappointment?
I predict a very short honeymoon.
Too many things to say about this election, so I limit myself at one aspect – money in politics. Not the “irregularities” in Obama’s fundrising, but the fact that he refused to go for public funding. His summer-time claims that he risks to be vastly out-moneyed by the republicams (I saved Plouffe’s ridiculous message), were, even at that time ludicrous – and to the trough they run, this crew of decent, PBS, NPR folks! The One went for the big money since it was in his reach, and dumped any pretention of hope’n change, at least in the ways politics are financed (poor McCain, with his McCain-Feingold law! So naif, so archaic!)
Now it is too late, the demon is out of bottle and no one can stop the republicans or other party to set up similar fund-rising systems – and the day when the liberals will run around yelling “murder, murder bloody murder!” is no far away, and they are fully responsible for the monster they mid-wifed.
Yet this bad situation created by the “hope’n change” savior has an even uglier consequence – this anonymous, unaccountable system (will there ever be a serious attempt to make this system accountable? I doubt it – it’s a true Eldorado for both parties and anyone who harbors political ambitions), in which anyone in the world can invest in American politics & policies will open the door for further pressures to change the constitution and allow for foreigners compete for the job of US president – you know the reasoning: the constitution is archaic, we need new talent, why discriminate, by not doing this we encourage bigotry, we should be a model for the world, a multicultural society should be open-minded and inclusive, we will be liked more, etc. etc.
And with these two elements in place, America will become SIMPLY FOR SALE TO THE HIGHST BIDDER – and this situation is much closer than we would like to believe, courtesy to Obama and that embodiment of political rottenness that the Democrat party is.
People we need to accept that we did not run a very good campaign in 2008. We need to show the wingnuts and the rest of the democratic party how grown ups accept tough times.
I accept Mr. Obama is the next President of the US, while preparing for his defeat in 2012. I will support Mr. Obama in exactly the same way the democrats have supported Mr. Bush.
Never surrender, never give up
sorry roGER, but 56 million votes is not a rejection of ideology.
And with Rahm Emmnauel as chief of staff, Rachel is quite correct to fear thug tactics. That is a very strong indicator. There are already Democrats considering seizing our 401K plans. It is cause for alarm.
Once the Obama that the media has been trying so hard to hide steps forth and reveals his true self to our less observant American voters, buyers remorse will set in. That 56 million number will grow.
Batten down the hatches. We are sailing into very stormy seas. Americans stand to pay dearly for their failure to fully understand just who and what they voted for.
Correction: We thought McCain could win the election. Even though all of Obama’s surrogates were trying so hard to depict him as inevitable. And based on the vote, he wasn’t. He clearly won, but it was no mandate. Now Obama has to convince at least 56 million people that he’s fit to lead. I wish him luck.
As much as I have fought against it I am now looking forward to the 4 years to come – under a McCain presidency I would have had to keep my job, keep paying taxes, and a multitude of other things that make “main street” Americans successful or at the very least keep their heads above water.
Now I get to quit my job, go on welfare and not worry about making any kind of contribution to society because… HALLELUJAH, Mr. Government is here to make it all better and make us all truly equal! Why should bother to expend any effort when I can just wait for my checks to arrive in the mail every month at the expense of those that have some overblown sense of personal responsibility for themselves and their own success.
I voted for John Galt!
“Not the “irregularities” in Obama’s fundrising”
These “irregularities” deserve a major U.S. Justice Department investigation. It is abundantly clear that someone with the Obama campaign ordered the disabling of the security software on their website to allow millions of dollars in illegal contributions. Somebody should be going to prison—and that might even include the president elect!
It is true that McCain did not run a good campaign, in fact it was probably the worst I’ve seen. I think even Dole ran a better one. However, until we can do something to overcome the power of a completely dishonest MainStreamMedia, we conservatives will be portrayed as the enemies of freedom and not the ones who truly are – the liberals and the Democrats.
BHO will be our president even though he is committed more crimes during the campaign the Clinton did during his first 4 years. Look at all the illegal money he raised from fraudalently charging numerous peoples’ credit cards with unauthorised donations to accepting money from foreign donors. And then there is the hit squads that using government databases to target and destroy people who disagree with him. There are many more examples of illegal activities he has either participated in or condoned to get elected.
I weep for my country because there are a lot of people who made a choice for BHO and they are just ignorant sheep because the information they needed to make an informed and intelligent choice was intentional withheld and supressed.
There will be a backlash when all these people discover what/who he really is.
My new phrase: N.U.M.B. (Numb is how I feel today)
National Unity My Butt!
*** I refuse to unite with any man, be he black, white, purple with big pink dots, that would promote Socialism, Radicalism and / or repression of our Freedoms. Our new Presidents first appointment is one og the most hated and hateful staunch partisans of the far left. Conservatives had beeter be armed and ready with sound logic, stong convictions and a set of brass balls to thawrt the comming wave of radical policies. We will need LEADERS that can get on TV and argue against the Fairness Doctrine, the Card Check and other refinements to The Bill of Rights and our Constitution. We here at PJM,HotAir and across the Country had better be ready to send e-mails, calls, fllod the TV’s with reasonable responses, talking to the American People, fighting back with massive turnout of opposition when these Bills start heading down the pipe. We must have faces and voices that get air time to fight “change”, and allow folks to see Obama and his minyons in the light of day. “Change” is comming, we need to beat the hell out of it, early and often. N.U.M. big ol’ hairy B.!
To Jim @ 17…. No mandate? Obama won by a margin more than TWICE of Bush’s 2004 victory. Did you think Bush had a mandate then? Thats what I thought.
And to Rachel and all the rest… remember Obama is now YOUR Commander in Chief, just like you kept trying to tell all of the left that Bush was OURS.
Your right wing nutjob ideas have been repudiated. But just keep believing that they havent because you will continue to marginalize yourselves. Until you decide to accept rational ideas you will keep losing elections.
If bloggers are reasonable, that doesn’t mean the comments always are. The early stages of Obama Derangement Syndrome have started to seep in for some people. Thankfully most right-o’-center blogs moderate comments so that the crazy ones get deleted.
Perhaps Republicans and their allies the conservatives will have finally learned the lesson that we cannot nominate Democrat-lite candidates (Ford, both Bush’s, McCain) and keep our integrity. Let’s hope that next time, assuming the far-left regime of Obama allows free elections in 2012, we actually nominate a conservative.
And let’s all show the same respect and cooperation for the Obama regime that the left and the media showed for President Bush – remember the bumper stickers which said “He’s not my President” – let’s revive them for Obama!
sorry roGER, every clear-thinking conservative person knows there was Nothing fair or square about this defeat.
And the paucity of character, morality and trustworthiness of the president-elect is appalling. This person does not and cannot truly represent me or any conservative I know.
“Now I get to quit my job, go on welfare and not worry about making any kind of contribution to society because… HALLELUJAH, Mr. Government is here to make it all better and make us all truly equal!”
If you are really going to quit your job because you think that’s what is going to happen then your resulting poverty will be richly deserved.
Does anybody seriously think that Obama will make welfare pay better than most jobs? He might even raise the federal minimum wage to make work more advantageous than welfare for the poor.
We can rightfully take pride in the fact that someone who could literally have been bought or sold as property in 1776 is elected President in 2008. That’s progress regardless your political stripe. The irony is that in the radical leftist worldview, which some of us legitimately fear is held by Obama, we are all merely wards of the state, slaves by another name. That certainly adds a gnarly twist to that destiny thing.
I’ve been amazed by all the left-wingers posting on right-wing blogs the past two days that we should all “shut up, you lost, get over it” and demanding that we end our divisive partisan behavior. These are the same people who have relentlessly bashed every move Bush made since before he even took office. They never gave Bush the slightest benefit of the doubt for eight years.
Now they elect their most left leaning Senator, who sat in a racist church for 20 years, has questionable domestic terrorist connections, has ties to groups engaged in widespread voter fraud, took illegal contributions, spouted socialist ideals, repeatedly played the race card, was never vetted by the media, has the most outrageous postion on abortion imaginable, and is completely unqualified, but we are told to shut up and join with them in worshipping this man.
Do they really believe we will now abandon our principles just because they are in power? Do they really believe that we are going to give Obama the passes that they never gave to George Bush for one second? If so, they better put down their bongs and face reality because IT’S NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN! The left has fed the divisiveness and hate for eight years and now will have to lie in the bed they made.
MikeW…we conservatives will be portrayed as the enemies of freedom and not the ones who truly are – the liberals and the Democrats”…
Are you for real? This is the kind of thinking which has put you in the minority. Bush has done more in 8 years to destroy the Constitution than ANY of the other 42 Presidents before him (including Nixon). But you just keep spouting that hate-filled message. It worked so well on Nov 4th.
Mark G….”fllod the TV’s with reasonable responses, talking to the American People, fighting back with massive turnout of opposition when these Bills start heading down the pipe. We must have faces and voices that get air time to fight “change”, and allow folks to see Obama and his minyons in the light of day. “Change” is comming, we need to beat the hell out of it, early and often.”
First, I havent seen any reasonable responses coming from most of the right wing blogosphere.
Second, ‘Change’ has already happened with Obama’s victory. Your hate filled rhetoric and talking heads (Limbaugh, Hannity, and O’Reilly) dont matter anymore. ‘Change’ happens. Get ready for it. And if you decide to try and sit on the track to stop it dont blame the wreck on the train.
Finally, John Hawkins. Tell Reagan Fan over at Right Wing News he STILL owes me an apology for the results of the 2006 elections…
“And yet, the most common reaction across the right side of the blogosphere was either a congratulations to Obama, a recognition that having the first black president was a historic moment for America, or some combination thereof.” No, I think you needed to sample a little more of the response. After one article on the election, there were listed hundreds upon hundreds of vicious, hateful, violent, despicable comments on Obama, Democrats and those who support them. I started to print them all out, but it would have comprised 138 pages! of material. Also, this from Newsweek: “The Obama campaign was provided with reports from the Secret Service showing a sharp and disturbing increase in threats to Obama in September and early October, at the same time that many crowds at Palin rallies became more frenzied.” I, and many of my friends and acquaintances, are very afraid that there will multiple attempts on Obama’s life. And McCain, in his concession speech, after have stoked so much fear and hatred in almost half the population, has the chutzpah to say that Obama is a good man, and that McCain is going to work with him, etc. etc. ad nauseum. I am appalled.
We as a people (Americans) need to get on our knees and pray to God for forgiveness for all of the hate and evil shown by both sides. God does not like ugliness and hate. People, get a grip please. Whether you like it or not Sen. Obama is our president-elect and there is not a thing you can do about it. Stop ranting and become part of the solution. We are facing serious problems. Maybe the wounds are too fresh. One can only hope for healing eventually.
Please people, don’t descend into Obama Derangement Syndrome. Our country has suffered enough with the divisions and rancor of the past 8 years – and the 8 before that, although the last have been far worse.
We are better than that. Aren’t we?
November 4th sad day for America. Brother who lives in Middle East called and was surprised that Americans elected a worthless, phony man as their president.
Next 4 years America will be viewed as a third world country.
“The irony is that in the radical leftist worldview, which some of us legitimately fear is held by Obama, we are all merely wards of the state, slaves by another name.”
Comparing the situation of actual slaves throughout history to some guy crying because he might have to pay 3% more income tax on some of his earnings is quite frankly ludicrous and insulting to the millions who endured real slavery..
Now Republicans know how I felt when that moron Bush was elected. And of course we see what a mess he’s made of our country. I’m so utterly sick and tired of conservatives and their cow-towing to the rich corporations, while ignoring the poor working stiff. It’s always amazed me how the extreme right claims to be so religious and devout, all the while strongly opposing programs to help the poor. Jesus was all about helping the poor. The bible says it would be easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter heaven. So in my mind, conservative extremists are very hipocritical and bigoted. They just need to shut up and let a compasionate leader accomplish what needs to be done for a change.
Get over it and move on. The Democrats have always done a much better job with the economy. Republicans always cite their big lie about “tax and spend.” Republicans alwasy spend MUCH more and they of course don’t want to pay for THEIR programs with taxes, they want to “BORROW and spend”, charging it to our children and grandchildren.
No one is moving overseas because it was the dumb and lower-economic voters that were threatening this. The educated conservatives realized Obama was the better choice on pretty much everything except taxes (I disagree with the ethanol project). This wasn’t selective. Go to the FOX News board and look at the comments page of the elections. Pure racism. Gloating is hard not to do, because many conservatives have stuck with the line that everyone who doesn’t think exactly like them is a liberal and an idiot. This is over. I think the ultra-conservatives pissed off enough people that the country lost its’ center-right viewpoint. The scared reaction of many is beyond ridiculous. I consider it a consequence of people taking the poison pill that Limbaugh, Hannity, and Coulter dish out every night.
I feel sympathy for the people who are so ideologically-driven that they can’t take any pleasure or pride in the election of Barack Obama. It had to create a sense of feeling ‘left out’ when you couldn’t even muster a smile while watching a quarter million people of all races coming together in that Chicago park on Tuesday night. I am no fan of Jesse jackson, but watching him in that crowd, sobbing silently, was incredibly touching. And then there’s the reaction of people around the world, which is something I’ve never seen in my lifetime. This is light-years beyond what the country experienced when JFK was elected. You may not agree with some of the plans Obama outlined during his campaign, but to suggest that you can’t support him because he’s a suspicious or “phony” character only means that you were one of the gullible, uninformed people who bought the incendiary, paranoid rhetoric of the McCain/Palin campaign. While you were listening to the lies, you weren’t listening to Obama. You should be asking yourself why you were so willing to believe the patently false accusations and McCarthyesque tactics that will become known as the most despicable campaign for president since John Quincy Adams ran against Andrew Jackson. Perhaps, it’s because you simply cannot accept a black person as President of the United States, and you’re looking for other reasons to reject him so you don’t feel like a racist. But what else could it be? The anger I’m seeing in some of these comments has nothing to do with regret about John McCain’s loss on Tuesday. It’s obviously much more about Obama’s victory.
I watched the polls pretty carefully and realized that McCain had pulled back within striking distance and then, alas, faded. The hope that the undecideds would break for him simply didn’t pan out. The results of the election, therefore, didn’t surprise me. I was, as the author pointed out, amazed at the number of blogs which refused to even consider defeat as a possibility. There was a strain of superstitious thinking that permeated the posts, suggesting that if you thought practically then you’d affect the outcome.
I’m a long-time Democrat who voted Republican for the first time in my life, so it will be interesting to see where the Republican party goes in the future. I liked McCain a lot, his message, and his integrity demonstrated in the campaign. I thought he did an amazing job, frankly, given the anti-Bush fervor and trying to run against someone with no record to even attack and a surefire loss if he went after character issues too vigorously. As it was, it seemed the public perceived him as more negative. Obama had the aura of protectionism around his candidacy, and the media supported it.
So, in my mind? John may have lost, but he sure as heck got everyone’s attention. There is no mandate for progressives, not with 47% voting No in this climate. They are whistling in the dark if they believe that, and the passing of proposition 8 in CA spells out the truth.
One more thing… all of the gloom and doom responses show, once again, that what John H wrote about in this very column is wrong. Your hateful, racist comments are the very thing John said you were NOT doing yet you ARE doing. Talk about myopic. If you EVER want to win another election you will have to face reality.
I don’t know – there seem to be plenty of disappointed Republicans indulging in scurrilous talk about the Big O. But I don’t think they’ve raised vileness to an art form like the Democrats did after Bush was elected.
The sad thing is, being better at lying and crudeness is a political asset these days. You don’t even have to disguise your line of bulls**t as the truth. It’s enough that your constant negativity wears people down, wearies them, makes them wish the atmosphere weren’t so ugly, makes them hunger for…change. It’s a clever trick: poisoning the well so you can sell the people water.
As a born-again Christian, I see problems with the morals of both conservatives and liberals. Liberals think it’s ok to have abortions, support gays (and otherwise be sexually impure), and denounce God. Conservatives think it’s ok to misuse the Word of God to push selfish agendas, react hostilely to anything that breaks tradition, be holier-than-thou and throw stones at their fellow man, and let greed be their master instead of opening their arms and giving joyfully to the poor (as well as generally rising up in society by stepping on the backs of others). So what we have are the Godless versus the Pharisees; both of whom Jesus denounces in the Bible. God and Jesus stand with neither extreme; nor should any Christian.
druidbros, I may agree that there is a monicum of sour grapes and some hyperbole being used by those of us who lost the election, but please give me an example of a “racist comment” that has been made. I didn’t closely pore over every word, but everything I read used words like socialism, welfare state, fascism, left-wing, lying, deception … These are all negative things being said about a black man, but none of them have anything explicitly to do with his being black.
I contend that your knee-jerk assumption that there is a racial component to any criticism of Obama or his campaign only serves to support the assumption among some that such racial tactics will be commonplace during an Obama presidency to quiet the opposition and makes your argument seem more emotional and less logical.
Not sure what Republicans you have been talking to, but all I have heard is a bunch of cry babies!
roGER,
“As for crazed comparisons with Stalin, Hitler, and Lenin – just how low can Republicans like you stoop, and how detached from reality can you get?”
This is where the Democrats and their nutroots supporters learn the “Golden Rule” the hard way. Take a good hard look at the behavior of the left and the nutroots over the last 8 years to see just how low and how “detached from reality” people can stoop. I can not wait to see what the equivalent of “Chimpy McBushHalliburtonHitler” will be for Barak Obama.
The Democrats and the “reality based community” now want “harmony, civility and national unity”. They are not going to get it unless they work very long and hard to earn it which I doubt they will do. They gleefully burned all the bridges long ago and they will never be rebuilt. They have no one to blame but themselves.
But be of good cheer! I doubt you will see those on the right dress up in pink shouting in the House committee meetings, making giant papier mache puppets, having drum circles or any of the rest of the fun and games we have seen out of the left over the past 8 years. No, we will do something much, much worse. We will turn our backs and walk away from you and in the end you will discover that you need us much more then we need you.
No mandate? Obama won by a margin more than TWICE of Bush’s 2004 victory. Did you think Bush had a mandate then?
No, I didn’t. But then, Obama just got a few hundred thousand more votes than Bush did in ’04, so I guess now he’s above criticism.
@ JohnRJ08:
Its comments like these that make me glad to be a Republican and not a Democrat. What exactly was so patently false and despicable about the McCain campaign’s message? Their criticisms of Obama? What was wrong with them exactly? And please don’t try to say their questions about his associations and character, because those ARE legitimate things to ask about, whether you like it or not. Their questions on his tax policies? I agree with McCain about Obama’s tax policies that he’d like to institute. That makes me despicable just because I don’t agree with where and what Obama wants to take this country? Of course its a historic thing that a minority was elected president. That doesn’t mean I have to like or respect the person HOLDING the office. Just the office itself. Like the fact that I respect Bill Clinton as a master politician, but think he is disgraceful in the way he’s run his personal life. The last part of your post tells it all to me: we didn’t vote Obama, so we must be racist. That is and always has been a sick message from the democrats the entire campaign. If it were Michael Steele who had been running for the republicans, I would have voted for him in a minute, because I think he is a good man on our side. The reason I didn’t vote for Obama has NOTHING to do with his skin color. It has EVERYTHING to do with being completely opposite from him on pretty much all policies that he stands for (Card Check, Fairness Doctrine, taxation, big government, etc.). That doesn’t make me racist. It makes me an American with an opinion. And that’s all.
One more thing… all of the gloom and doom responses show, once again, that what John H wrote about in this very column is wrong. Your hateful, racist comments are the very thing John said you were NOT doing yet you ARE doing. Talk about myopic. If you EVER want to win another election you will have to face reality.
You won. Why are you so angry?
JohnRJ08
I feel sympathy for the people who are so ideologically-driven that they can’t take any pleasure or pride in the election of Barack Obama
The problem is that the media and many voters, the content of Obama’s character was ignored because of the color of his skin.
MLK might well be frowning on the media dishonesty, the messiah complex, and the reckless course that America has set itself on by ignoring basic truths.
To Steve: Yes, Jesus did preach helping the poor (“The poor you will always have with you”), but He was talking about personal responsibility to the poor. Conservative Christians, on a whole, contribute charitable contributions at an enormously greater rate than liberals do. The difference is that conservatives/libertarians believe it is the personal responsibility of each person to contribute to helping the poor; liberals believe that it is the government’s job.
I am very hopeful that Obama will show everyone that he has the best interests of the country in mind as he chooses his Cabinet and his department heads, and as he puts forth policy initiatives (he’s already approached two Republicans as potential Cabinet members). As these things occur, I would ask the doubters to open their minds, pay attention to his actions, and see if they can perceive the good that starts to occur. It’s going to be a rough road, given the problems the country faces, and it will require the efforts and good faith of every member of the society. Some of us will be capable of working this way, and some won’t, but the do-ers *must* outnumber the naysayers.
“Not sure what Republicans you have been talking to, but all I have heard is a bunch of cry babies!”
Yep, we sure are a bunch of cry babies, congratulating the opposition for its historic achievement and all. I guess we forgot to run out and start printing “Not My President” bumper stickers like how you guys did in 2000 and 2004.
Well hi Jim. I see they brought in a ringer.
Obama had 3 MILLION more votes than Bush in 2004.
I am not angry I just stand up for reality. If you want to see anger just read some of the right wing responses.
So now that Obama has won, isn’t it time for Leftists to ask themselves the question: “Maybe Bush wasn’t a fascist after all?” I mean, it’s a pretty darn milk-and-water sort of fascism that hands over power to its ideological opponents.
But really, maybe it just means that Bush was simply a sh*tkicker Texas politician who a lot of us disagreed with about many issues—-but who a lot more Americans agreed with in 2000 and 2004. That doesn’t mean he didn’t make some really bad decisions. Clearly he did. But it does mean he didn’t subvert the democratic process, because if he had, Obama would not even have been nominated, much less won. (I know, I know, there’s still the theoretical possibility that something will “happen” between now and Inauguration Day to make me eat my words. But I’d be willing to bet very large sums of money, right now, that Obama will take the oath of office as scheduled. Any takers? )
If nothing else it’s a welcome reminder to all political aficionados, Left and Right, to beware of rhetorical excess. (Remember the 90s, when all the right-wing talk shows had “proof” that Bill and Hillary Clinton had murdered Vince Foster? Remember the 80s, when the Left knew of a certainty that Reagan was a lunatic who had already decided in favor of preemptive thermonuclear war?)
If we devalue the language of politics by excess, what words will remain with which to describe the for-real monsters, if and when they come along?
dig Ruffini.
http://www.thenextright.com/patrick-ruffini/the-straight-ticket-youth-vote
The base problem is that all the socon “killer apps” like anti-choice, anti-gay, anti-intellectual, racism and classism, are hateful deathpoison to the majority of the youth demographic.
And youre not cool.
Let’s remember that Obama also wants to be re-elected. But of course he has raised a huge amount of expectation among the global Left. So when he fails to immediately surrender to the Taliban, apologize to al-Qaeda, kowtow to Hugo Chavez, and deliver up the Israelis on a platter, just watch how quickly the “Left” will turn on him (World Can’t Wait has already started). They will learn that their quarrel was not with that murderous fascist Bush (sarc) (who inexplicably handed over power to the opposition in a very feeble display of fascism) but rather with the arrogant, greedy, coarse, unilateralist, capitalist-imperialist American people themselves, darn them.
I even predict that the Islamic “press” will very soon be calling Obama an apostate from Islam and a “black cowboy” or perhaps even (with their usual cultural sensitivity and savoir-faire) a “n____r cowboy.”
And that is approximately when—-feeling so cruelly let down by BHO—-al-Qaeda will hit us again (HT to Joe Biden).
“killer apps” means killer applications, like the core conservative I guess.
Culture of LIFE FTW!
heh.
This conservative is hoping and praying Obama rises above the worst instincts of the left which have the potential to drive an irreconcilable wedge in this country. Read history about the rancor in 1850′s America. Dr. King stated “we’ll live together as brothers or die together as fools”.
You on the left have a responsibility also. Celebrate Obama’s great victory for the historic moment it is, but acknowledge your own culpability of deranged Bush syndrome. Nicholas Baker wrote a novel about the assassination of Bush. Ted Rall drew racist cartoons about Dr. Rice and called the heroic Pat Tillman an imbecile for dying for his country. Google Chimpy Mcbushhitler for pure vile toxin,ad nauseum. You have as much responsibility as we do to tone down the rhetoric.
I suppose FDR and all of his programs that helped pull this country out of a great depression was a terrorist, socialist, marxist, and communist as well?
Look. It’s fine to dissent and disagree, that is the American way. But the amount of vitriole being spewed is scary. As someone who voted Bush in 2000, and has generally supported most of what the Republican party used to stand for, I’m scared by the direction the Right has taken.
It has gone from a political party who believes in small government, less spending, and less federalism to essentially a religious group that believes that they have a mandate from the Almighty.
I teach the mildly mentally retarded (IQ’s in 60-70 range) Some are voting age. They voted. They, to a man, voted for Obama. The can’t read, except some Traffic signs (learned those so they could get a driver’s license). They are all Democrats.
With vote totals slightly higher than that of 04, where is the mandate? If there were all these “NEW” voters that came out, with Youth and Minority voting at record numbers then what happened to the voters of 2004? Only 3 million new voters? I dont think so. Like 2006 conservatives stayed home. The only reason the election was as close as it was on election night was because of Gov. Palin. She could not do it alone. The party base was down and unmotivated. Why? because they did not like there choices. Until the Republican party gets back to the principles of conservatives, the principles of Reagan, this will be the status quo. I agree with the in fighting going on now because the party needs to be swept clean. This was NOT a mandate TO the left but a mandate to the right. To the republicans, Get back to basics or be left out. The people have spoken. What choice does the party make? Try the same 8 – 12 years of failed hand reaching across the aisle of bipartisanship? or do we stand by our principles and at the end of the day prevail.
If you question if this country turned left fast, look at California and Florida with there ammend. 8 and 2 respectively. Conservatism is ALIVE and WELL.
Obama cares enough about the poor to spread other people’s money to them, but when it comes to freely giving their own money to charity, both he and Biden’s tax returns prove how little they truly care. I could have believed their rhetoric more if they had ever put their OWN money where their mouths are, but they did not.
What they are really looking for is the power that comes with controlling the purse strings in this country. Obama’s arrogance in thinking that he has the right to decide how much of their own money a hard-working person is allowed to keep, and who receives the money he confiscates is nothing short of astounding. I realize we already have a progressive tax system, it’s his idealogy of sharing the wealth purely for the sake of what he considers “fairness” that I find infuriating.
I understand that the Republicans are concerned. As a Democrat who is more of a centrist than a liberal, I am not un-concerned with what a single-party dominated government might do. It can be a scary thought.
With that being said, look at what our outgoing President and 6 years of single-party rule has brought us. I know that the automatic answer to that is that “the last 2 years the Congress has been run by Democrats!”. But let’s be realistic. The majority was only held in the Senate because Lieberman caucused with the Dems, but he voted mostly with Republicans. So it was even. And Mr. Bush’s use of the media to call into question the devotion and patriotism of anyone who disagreed with him was absolutely something to be feared. So, give the Dems a chance. You might find that, while they can’t solve all of our problems, they might just get enough done to help get us back on track…
The key here to survival is resist change, hide your money and destabilize. No effort will be too small. For example, the consumer accounts for 70% of GNP and a rebound in spending improve the economy. We don’t want this. So, curtail your purchases if you can and hoard money (and invest in tax-free vehicles or gold coins). If necessary buy foreign goods – that will cause money to leave the country (Obama want’s protectionism). Lastly, rethink your contribution to the workforce. I’m thinking of getting laid-off (I can arrange this) and collecting unemployment for as long as possible – first time ever in my life (it will be tough, but doable). Obama is considering extending benefits and making them tax free – all the better. I’d rather get supported than do the supporting in this environment! This has a double-whammy because not only will I not contribute to GNP and recovery, but I’ll be taking from the system! It’s a beautiful thing! Hang in there…we’ll make it back.
Let’s clear up some misconceptions here:
1) Bush was a disaster who rightfully never should have been President in the first place (belated analysis pretty much all showed that Gore actually did win Florida) and every single complaint about him has been more than justified. There was never any such thing as “BDS” — it was only all along just pointing out what would have been far more obvious save for how badly served the US public by the lazy, shallow, stupid, and timid ways the corporate media: Bush was a terrible, terrible President.
It’s laughable about how right wingers and conservatives have been upset by what they perceived has been heavy “MSM” bias in favor of Obama — if the so-called MSM actually had done its job more responsibly, McCain should have been put through the ringer over his rogues gallery of advisors he brought on board and his deer-caught-in-headlights behavior when the financial crisis hit. He got off way, WAY too lightly. In contrast, all that stuff about Ayers, ACORN and such was never more than the usual, vile and utterly nonsensical right wing BS smears that gets served up during election time.
2) Your cherished freedoms were eroded under Bush to a far greater degree than you yahoos would ever believe. DHS for instance, became both a trainwreck of incopetence and cesspool of corruption and bad, very bad behavior — arresting people almost as complete random and holding them with all suspension of their usual rights (for sh*ts and grins, go Google: Rex 84 Military Order Number One).
You best hope that when Obama looks hard at all the nonsense Bush implemented for the supposed sake of National Security, his first reaction should be “WTF!?!”)
3) If you are a right wing nutcase, even the most politically centered people will look like “radical leftists” from where you stand — think about it.
4) You Republicans really need to get your act together and back to focusing on what you’re suppose to be good at: limiting government taxing and spending, and promoting a strong military. That in theory should help balance off Democratic tendencies to add expensive, poorly monitored social programs, which may be well intentioned, but needing someone to make sure the money is well spent and not wasted or become a source of corruption. We really have sort of a single “Demo-republican” party running things, and all other political parties are marginalized. If they want to be players in this country, libertarians for example have to hold their noses and join in with the Republicans, and progressives have to do likewise with the Democrats.
In other words, we really need both good, vibrant Republican and Democratic parties willing to work together and make sensible compromises to get anything constructive done. And Obama looks to be a very, VERY good opportunity for both major political parties, whether you see this immediately or not.
HIghlar– The lies spewed by the McCain/Palin campaign came on a daily basis in the month of the campaign. You actually think Obama consorted with a domestic terrorist? You really think a tax break for the middle class is “socialism” or that his plan to rollback taxes for the wealthy to Clinton-era levels makes him a “Marxist”. You think Obama actually agrees that God should damn America because he went to Jeremiah Wright’s church? You really believe that Obama’s character should be measured by the worst people he has ever been in the same room with, rather than the best? If you believe all that, then you probably think Joe-the-Plumber was a real person.
By the way, when you give to a charity then use it as a write-off on your taxes, it’s not really giving. It’s a mistake to judge how much people give by what you see on their tax returns.
At least our blogs won’t be cluttered with Obamabots now. They will be less of a distraction until the Jackasses enact the “Fairness” Doctrine. But we’ll find ways around it.
I’m a former Leftist, so I know these people, and I think I know Obama quite well. I’m with the poster earlier above who said she wouldn’t trust Obama with her friends or her kids.
And why is it that we need a “Civilian Security Force?”
No, there will be no congratulations to Obama from me. I think he is a narcissist and a liar. If we survive his administration with the harm not too severe, it is my hope that the dimwits who voted for him have their eyes opened. People learn the most from failure and error, if they have any brains to understand it.
I love the moral equivalency of left. They equate called Obama a socialist (which he is) with their calling Bush Hitler?
I even managed to find something positive from an rather dire night.
Well hi Jim. I see they brought in a ringer.
Obama had 3 MILLION more votes than Bush in 2004.
Well, 2 million. But I concede the point: Wotta mandate.
I am not angry I just stand up for reality. If you want to see anger just read some of the right wing responses.
Yes, calling somebody who disagrees with you a “ringer,” what a sign of dispassion.
When someone comes in high-n’-mightily pronouncing an ability to “clear up some misconceptions” and then starts with a Big Lie — “belated analysis pretty much all showed that Gore actually did win Florida” — you know we’re in for a long four years. Of course the comprehensive and definitive newspaper analysis showed Gore lost in every case but one counting ballots with votes for multiple candidates.
It’s so easy being a leftist. Controlling higher education and the media has made them think history and the facts are just speedbumps on the way to their statist utopia. Microeconomics begs to differ.
“1) Bush was a disaster who rightfully never should have been President in the first place (belated analysis pretty much all showed that Gore actually did win Florida) and every single complaint about him has been more than justified.”
Where do you get your news? The Daily Kos? Even the NYT showed that Bush won the election after its own recount.
JohnRJ…
I never really liked the Ayers meme. I do understand that the real question was slippery. We had no record for Obama to judge him on. Today’s editorials tell the story. Even those in the tank are writing, “How will Obama govern?”
Nobody knows.
He’s a “pig in a poke,” as Bill Clinton said early in the primaries.
Bill, as usual, was right on the spot.
Mary W. It’s not the government’s job to help the rich by giving them huge tax breaks while giving very little or nothing to the middle class and poor either.
Conservative Christians give more??? Hah, where did you get that from??? Show me some statistics on that. What a crock.
I’ve found conservatives for the most part to be hateful, arrogant and paranoid with very little compasion. A prime example is that vile campaign ad by Elizabeth Dole. I’m SO glad she lost! McCain’s ads weren’t much better.
I was hoping that Obama would bring up McCain’s “paling around with” that evil criminal Charles Keating and the congressional investigation into McCain’s role. While he managed to slide by due to lack of evidence, it was clear he was deeply involved. But the Obama campaign didn’t try to distort and play that up. The Republicans have always been the ones to run hatefull, lying ads.
I thank God for people like Obama and his followers, they are a voice of sanity and compassion. I am sooo relieved to see the rabid conservatives out of power. Hopefully they’ll go the way of the dinosaurs, that’s what they are.
@ JohnRJ08:
Yes, I think that Obama was much friendlier with William Ayers than him “just being a guy in the neighborhood”, as Obama said at first (note, that he did change his stance on that a couple of times). There is ample evidence of this. Do I think he agrees with Rev. Wright and all of his sermons? I can’t say yes or no, because I don’t know him close enough for that. BUT I can say that I don’t believe Obama for an instant when he tries to say that he was in that church for 20 years, but NEVER heard Rev. Wright give the kinds of sermons he did, time after time…didn’t realize he was spewing hate from the pulpit. How can ANYONE believe Obama when he tries to say that? I never called Obama a Marxist, but it IS a socialist idea that he has for taxes: taking from one group and giving that money to another group. That is not a progressive tax system; progressive tax uses the money from taxes for government expense and programs, not redistributing the money to other income groups. Joe-the-Plumber IS a real person. If you remember, it was Senator Obama who chose JOE to speak with, not the other way around. As for judging Obama by the “worst people he has ever been in the same room with, rather than the best”, its the fact of how MANY people of the worst kind that he has chosen to associate with over the years, and the denial of such in front of evidence to the contrary. Also, its how most of his entire young adult life is kept in secrecy. Why will he not allow his records to be released, as all the other candidates did? Do I believe that Obama fully stood behind what his associates believed in? No, I don’t. But I DO think that he used them for political expediency; Obama was a man on a mission, and used what he could to elevate his political career as quickly as possible. He is an opportunist, not a Marxist, not a communist. He isn’t a radical in the likes of Ayers, but he used him as long as he could to further his career. And as far as moving taxes back up to Clinton era levels, with the economy as it is, its not good to raise ANYONE’S taxes. Plain and simple.
Wow -
“There was never any such thing as “BDS” — it was only all along just pointing out what would have been far more obvious save for how badly served the US public by the lazy, shallow, stupid, and timid ways the corporate media”
What a relief to know that all the vitrolic tirades by the Left weren’t due to BDS. That certainly opens the door to allowing the same venom against Obama.
War, total complete and unremitting war. Pay them back for the way they treated Bush-Hitler and Sarah. Remember how Peggy Noonan and Hollywood stood with Larry Flint in humiliating and degrading Gov. Palin? They hate us. Peggy Noonan is a cancer upon America. What has she ever been elected to other than a priviledged life in Manhatten? Purge the traitors. There is no room for sanctimony. Attack, Attack, Attack. Dissent is now the highest form of patriotism against Comarade Obama.
To Tacitus: If a full state recount had been done (but which wasn’t asked for), Gore would have won: http://www.fair.org/index.php?page=1095
The full report:
http://www.aei.org/docLib/20040526_KeatingPaper.pdf
Gore and his people wimped out during the post election maneuvering and had their butts handed to them by the Republicans. You can argue rules all you want, but the bottom line is that Gore got more votes than Bush in Florida in 2000.
But it’s just water under the bridge and way down the river now, though.
This article is just plain wrong. Just take a look at the comments here. Evil, anti-christ, etc.
Prejudice, hate, fear, sore losers… whatever the reason, these comments are NOT reasonable. Even McCain said his opponent is a good man, they just have differences of opinion on matters. Please, conservatives, listen to McCain, make peace.
I am amazed at the level of hatred towards any thing that dares to be different that exists, still, in this party.
You realize that division, and fear, created the climate for Obama. Look at as far back as 1988, Bush won, not on the issues or belief in his leadership, but fear. The idiot that was W used the same thing to win twice.
Now the campaign. this season, ran the playbook (stir up the hate, character assassination, it was all there) play by play.
People aren’t that way, when they see all that they worked for in jeopardy due to a bad economy.
The saddest part is that in the 21st century, there are people that hate so much.
Steve…..rabid is rabid. Doesn’t matter which side you’re on. If you compare to Hitler, in my opinion, you’ve decided it’s ok to be rabid. If you slime about clothes with a female candidate, you’ve also decided…..
The ends justify the means.
It doesn’t, of course. The means actually define the ends.
WHO IS PRESIDENT-ELECT OBAMA?
We have a President-elect but do we have even the remotest idea as to how he will govern:
http://greensrealworld.blogspot.com/2008/11/who-is-president-elect-obama.html
I do understand the hate that many of you have for our President-elect. It’s irrational, but nevertheless explainable. I understand that you do because you actually believe the lies that you are told. You believe the exaggerations, the worst-case scenario from the folks who will say anything to denouce Obama.
He will not cow-tow to terrorists; he is a supporter of Israel; he is not Muslim; he is for fewer abortions; he abhors the views Bill Ayers had in the 60′s. He loves America. If what you have read in emails and at the gun club were true, he would not be our next president. But clearer heads have prevailed.
If any of it were true, then by all means you would be justified in your anger and mistrust; but it is not. Just as you were told that there were ties between Iraq and 9/11, you believed it. You were told that there was Al Quaida in Iraq, and you believed it; and you were told that there were WMD in Iraq and you believed it. You were told that the Mission was Accomplished and you believed it. You were told that we would be welcomed as liberators and you believed it. You were told that our ecomomy was fundamentally sound and you believed it. Now you have been told that Obama is a Marxist; that he will take away your guns, that he will raise your taxes. Well America, it’s time that you need to get better information. Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Fox-News are not reliable. Please have a mind of your own and get on board with the President of the United States and the rest of America.
McCain was much friendlier with Charles Keating than him “just being a guy in the neighborhood.” They were really close friends. Take a look at that incident in detail. McCain should have gone to jail over it but fortunately for him, he had covered his tracks pretty well.
Joe the plumber is a joke. He isn’t even a licensed plummer. Probably a plant by rabid conservatives.
Taxes back to Clinton levels? At least we had a huge budget surplus then, we didn’t have a trillion dollar deficit.
But Obama has said anyone making less that a quarter million won’t see an increase in taxes. Leave it to Republicans to lie about or distort the facts. The only taxes Obama wants put back to Clinton levels are taxes on the rich and on the huge parisitic corporations like Exxon/Mobil. We were all hurting badly because of the increase in gas prices but they made record breaking profits. Something’s wrong with that picture. But the Dems will take care of that sort of thing now.
And that’s great. I love it. I’m SO glad to see conservatives having to suck it up. It’s long overdue.
67 BC: so now when Obama takes office–what?–all those poor innocents who were “arrested at random” by the fascist Bush regime (which will–watch for it–yield up power without even a murmur), all those innocents will emerge pallid and disheveled from their secret prison cells to tell their stories to a media newly-freed from fear and repression? Post an alert here when that happens, willya? Now excuse me while I go chunder up my breakfast….
Okay you Lefty Kool-Aid drinking posters, let’s get real:
In American politics “Campaign Promises” will yield to “Political Reality,” regardless of the party affiliation.
Except for BHO’s carefully chosen promise of “change” which, by the way, can realistically mean any kind of change- good or bad- all other promises are subject to change (pun intended).
My .02 of change.
For all the talk about how little was/is known about Obama, apparently this was actually much, much more the case with the new darling of the right, Sarah Palin — Carl Cameron of Fox News kept quiet about some off-the-record, little known, and very curious bits of info regarding Sarah Palin until the election was over:

I suppose FDR and all of his programs that helped pull this country out of a great depression was a terrorist, socialist, marxist, and communist as well?
No, he wasn’t a terrorist. But FDR was a socialist and his programs did not pull us out of the Great Depression. WWII did that. In fact, I read an article by UCLA economists last week noting his New Deal programs prolonged and deepened the Depression.
Somebody said the Democrats do better with the economy than the GOP. Hmmm, that’s why the Carter years are remembered with such fondness, I suppose. Clinton’s first 2 years were a mess and then a GOP Congress forced him to move to the center.
With luck, 2010 will be a reprise of 1994 and Obama will then have to move right.
Worst case scenario: it will be a reprise of 1936 and we’ll dig ourselves in the hole even deeper.
Let’s just hope there is not a reprise of 1941.

Sorry, FDR and his programs did not “help pull this country out of a great depression”. Two UCLA economists who actually looked at the data find the he made the Depression an estimated 7 years longer, because of socialistic policies. UCLA press release:
http://newsroom.ucla.edu/portal/ucla/FDR-s-Policies-Prolonged-Depression-5409.aspx
It’s interesting how right-wingers can talk about unwarranted attacks on a man who was appointed president by his father’s friends on the Supreme court (as he was gotten into Yale by his grandfather when he had a C average), gave tax breaks to oil companies while others lost their jobs, ignored the disaster in New Orleans, lied about WMDs in Iraq (a country that had never threatened us) so he could spread American influence in the Middle East by murdering 1 million Iraqis in their homes (how’s THAT for a respect for the sanctity of life?), raised pollution levels in the air and the water (Republicans breathe and drink it, too) borrowed 3 TRILLION DOLLARS FROM THE ONLY COMMUNIST COUNTRY ON EARTH, destroyed the American economy, and now currently enjoys the lowest popularity level (22%) of any American president in history. I guess he’s basically a Republican ideal.
BC – You really think Gore deserved to win in 2000 when he couldn’t win his home state? Get real. They obviously knew more about his character then all the ass-wipes on the NE coast. After 9/11 he would have sent lawyers to do a special-op’s job.
Steve – Please send me a note the day you get that Obama tax break, will ya. I see that Obama, the trial lawyer, convinced you too that “O.J. was innocent”. Sucker!
History will show that Bush did what he mandated after 9/11; kept us safe. He killed or captured thousands of terrorists. No, not Bin Laden yet, but all his pals are gone. Imagine trying to sleep at night not knowing if a missile will come out of nowhere and blow you to pieces. And I know, you think they are victims at camp Gitmo. Oh, and the poor folks who were “tortured”. Hell I went through a tougher fraternity pledge ship. Sleep deprivation? Did it. Water boarding? Wimpy. They all lived, had all their fingers and no scars. Ask Saddam Hussein how to torture. Oh wait, he’s dead! And millions, literally millions of Africans will live a whole life with the medicines and education that Bush provided to combat HIV and malaria. History will be much kinder to GWB than what you schmucks are blathering, that’s for sure.
With all that said, I do hope Obama does really govern from the center. It would better my family and this country. But his record and associations make me really doubt that. So I will give him a year before I buy that “Obama needs changing like a dirty diaper” sticker.
After reading all of this crap…some of you “typical #*8@$ people” need to get over yourselves. The “BIG scary black man…” is going to take something away from me that I feel that am entitled is what you all afraid of. The “American Dream” that has given you the comfort and security you worry about losing is the same thing that created a person like BHO except you done believe that he deserves to be respected for it.
Oh yes, FDR was so terrible, that’s why he was elected to FOUR terms…heh heh, yeah right. He did in fact pull us out of the Great Depression. Hoover had thrown up his hands and given up. “There is nothing we can do.” he is quoted as saying. FDR took action. He put people to work. But it’s not surprising that some right wing economists, probably on the payroll of the Republicans are making ridiculous claims. You can always find nay-sayers that twist facts to their own purposes. WWII didn’t pull us out of the depression, it cost us a lot of money. It was a huge drag on our economy. PULEEEEZE, give me a break.
But you can say whatever you want. We now have a Democrat in the white house and a majority in congress and the senate. Sweet! I love seing conservatives squirm!
The Republican lies and distortions and vile character assasinations got them nowhere this time. I think most people have finally seen them for what they are – Vain attempts to sell their BS at all costs and by any means necessary. Pathetic when you think about it.
To Clyde: I said nothing about Gore “deserving” to win — I just pointed out a detailed analysis showing that he did indeed get the most votes in Florida, as he did nationwide. Kerry *deserved* to win in 2004, but that has nothing to do with him losing because Bush got more votes.
Also history is already showing Bush to be a complete, corrupt fool after 9/11 — thanks to that little besides-the-point, bloody side excursion in Iraq and all the ill will it generated, terrorism rates shot up worldwide. And if all of Bin Laden’s pals are gone, then why is the Taliban resurgent? They were bin Laden’s true buddies — what, you forgot how they refused to turn him over to the US just because he was their “guest”?
BC – read my commment #86
By the way, I just wanted to mention what a great job Republicans do protecting this country. On 9/11, we had a Republican president, a Republican-controlled congress, a Republican-controlled senate, a Republican governor of New York, a Republican mayor of New York, and (most people don’t know this) Marvin Bush (George Bush’s younger brother) running security for the World Trade Center. Anyone who wants to see what a great job they did can visit the great big hole in the ground in lower New York.
And then Bush tried to sell the ports of New York to Dubai!
GOPMAN – Based on what you have posted here, I think it would be easy for you to get laid off. Just let your empoyer what you have written and I am sure they will be glad to oblige you
Heh heh, you’ve got a lot of nerve calling me a sucker Clyde. You’ve bought the big lie from the rabid conservatives, hook line and sinker. Your attempt futile attempt to show Bush as being anything more than a total failure proves how gullable you are. Bush will go down in history as the worst president in the history of the US. I think his IQ is maybe 2 points higher than a rock. Your defense of his total ineptitude is pathetic and as transparent as glass.
Let’s look at his record:
1. Got us into a totally unnecessary war by lying about WMD’s.
2. There were no terrorists in Iraq until after we invaded, then they swarmed in like flies.
3. His gunboat diplomacy alienated most of our alies and made us look like stupid, reactionary bullies.
4. Let the big oil companys practically write his environmental policy for him.
5. Gave huge no-bid contracts to Haliburton.
6. Approved the torture of prisoners of war.
7. Gave huge tax breaks to the rich and to mega-corporations.
8. Responsible for the biggest deficit in the history of the world.
9. Eroded civil liberties with his Big Brother inspired “Patriot Act”.
10. Failed to help Katrina victims.
Etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
Oh but yes, of course…he’s a great guy….heh heh, that’s why he as the worst approval rating of any president in HISTORY. Yeah…ha ha ha …whatever.
Oh yes, FDR was so terrible, that’s why he was elected to FOUR terms…heh heh, yeah right. He did in fact pull us out of the Great Depression. Hoover had thrown up his hands and given up. “There is nothing we can do.” he is quoted as saying.
Completely untrue. Hoover was in fact a big government Republican and a believer in massive public works – why do you think the “Hoover Dam” is called that? Roosevelt simply outpromised and outspent him – another lesson for conservatives – faced with a choice between a RINO and a Democrat, people will vote for the Democrat.
Learn a little history, Steve. You’re clearly a product of our public education system.
The right needs to educate, organize, and act.

“The Rightosphere Copes With Defeat”
Hey, you can’t win ‘em all. No point in getting all upset about it.
We survived four terms of FDR, by far the worst president in U.S. history, and we’ll likely survive the latest left wing moron president as well. Hopefully, the new messiah won’t bungle us into a war with Germany, Italy and Japan that costs hundreds of thousands of American lives, or put thousands of innocent Americans in concentration camps like Roosevelt did, but even if that does happen, we’ll still survive as a nation.
We’re strong enough to survive “liberal” presidents. We’ve done it before, we can do it again.
The hatred here is coming from the Democrats.
Sore winners.
Two UCLA economists say they have figured out why the Great Depression dragged on for almost 15 years, and they blame a suspect previously thought to be beyond reproach: President Franklin D. Roosevelt.
After scrutinizing Roosevelt’s record for four years, Harold L. Cole and Lee E. Ohanian conclude in a new study that New Deal policies signed into law 71 years ago thwarted economic recovery for seven long years.
“Why the Great Depression lasted so long has always been a great mystery, and because we never really knew the reason, we have always worried whether we would have another 10- to 15-year economic slump,” said Ohanian, vice chair of UCLA’s Department of Economics. “We found that a relapse isn’t likely unless lawmakers gum up a recovery with ill-conceived stimulus policies.”

Educate yourself, Steve.
I do not intend to indulge in ODS.
Much.
Just enough to get liberals to try to make a moral and logical case why I shouldn’t.
This is going to be fun.
RE: 53%
Can you say “selection bias”, I knew you could..
Seriously, less than a third of those polled responded. Don’t you think people optimistic about their own choice’s chances is more likely to respond?
To put the number differently, about 16% of those blog-owners when asked were willing to say that McCain would win.
Donna V. – Yes, of course I’m a product of our public educations system. But I guess you think it’s all lies and a liberal conspiracy. Ha ha ha, yeah right. It’s funny, when I was in school they taught us that FDR pulled us out of the Great Depression, but of course conservatives would like to re-write history to support their own views…how typical and pathetic. Yep, all those teachers and all those history books lied. It’s a liberal conspiracy! Run for the hills! Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Oh brother..give me a freakin’ break!
Oh yes, Bush had mandate in 2004 and Obama does not. Margin has nothing to do with it.
In 2004, everyone knew what Bush was about and what he would do, and the American people approved of it. In contrast, no one know what Obama would do, or even who he really is. “Hope! Change! Bush sucks!” — that was the entirety of his program, and he was never challenged on that. As a result, people projected on him their own fantasies, and voted for fantasies, not for the man. But everyone has different fantasies. Which means that Obama has no mandate to do any specific thing.
I give him a year to discover this truth.
I’d like to seize this opportunity to be gracious in defeat.
I opposed Obama because I believe the undefined “change” he offers is what theologians called “the social gospel” in the early 20th century. I think that is bad policy and worse theology… a false hope that is bound to disappoint the countless millions here and around the world who wait for him to heal the oceans.
I opposed him because I think government is not God, but I welcome his as my new president because God IS God. I firmly believe that America is good hands–not, ultimately, Obama’s, but my Heavenly Father’s.
I hope for the best from Obama, but it is hard not to remember the times when liberals have run the entire show in the past. Carter Era, turning a recession into THE Depression, capitalized because it names a particular thing, etc. I hope for the best, but I can’t help thinking I have seen this movie before. College kids haven’t, and there is no way to tell them not to touch the hot stove, they have to do it to learn. We shall see. I can honestly say I hope I am wrong.
Also, it is impossible not to be moved by the reaction of the black people we know to this. One lady yesterday said she was so excited she was calling up all of her friends, and even celebrating with wrong numbers. It was almost worth it for that alone.
The pro-Obama commenters here are right, especially Michele and Jonesy. Conservatives are to be judged by the most unhinged posts that can be dug up in the comment sections, whereas liberals are to be judged by the most generous and reflective bloggers in the left-o-sphere.
That is only fair and right and, besides, liberals have given conservatives plenty of warning that that’s how it is going to be.
The Schadenfreude from the lefties here is just the opposite face of the same coin. Vicious SOB’s while they were not in the majority and not any better now.
I guess Steve missed the study released from UCLA in the last couple weeks that showed that FDR’s policies extended the Great Depression by 7 years. FDR was a great war President but his domestic policies were a disaster. His protectionist, massive tax and spend policies turned what should have been a recession into a depression. Like Obama, he was an elitist product of academia. He never ran a business or met a payroll. He held people in the private sector with barely veiled contempt.
But don’t let reality get in the way of your revisionist lefty talking points. Continuing smearing good and decent people like George Bush and Dick Cheney if it makes you feel better about yourself. Pathetic when you think about it.
One more thing. FDR’s Republican predecessor was just as much at fault for the depression as FDR. The left likes to falsely paint him as a laissez faire conservative which is exactly the opposite of what he was. We was a big government Republican. FDR took what he started and ran with it. I think they were both decent people, but tragically misguided. I see a lot of parallels with where we are now.
Speaking of polls:
“As late as October 27, 53% of right-of-center bloggers believed John McCain was going to win the election.”
No, that would be 53% of the right-of-center bloggers you polled.
To Mike Reynolds: Aside from bits and pieces that I’ve heard from others, there was this one particular little thing that happened near me this past July:
http://thephoenix.com/Boston/News/68070-homeland-is-officially-secure
It got resolved finally in September, but that dude got locked up for 3 months for no good reason, and at first nobody knew what was going on and DHS wouldn’t give out any info to the local press.
I know personally that most people get freaked out and afraid when they get treated like this, and just want to go on their way when released. If there are more such people in detention, obviously Obama should get them released, but there will probably be only some sort of mild compensation and apology, but very little news about it.
That link didn’t work for some reason, try this shorter one — the story is the top one regarding Vicente Lebron, a Boston musician:

DonnaV – Everyone seem to ignore that fact that we finally came out of the Depression when the Government infused a huge amount of money into the economy during the War. Hmmn – so much for the ineffectiveness of Government intervention
if all we get is a rollback of the SELFISH GOP tax cuts for rich
we will be estatic!
social gospel? – you are dense as granite!
BC and Steve – You guys can’t rebut the fact that he has kept us safe and killed or captured thousands of terrorist. You list things that only liberals claim as failures or as “wrong”. If I recall, congress voted for the war in Iraq. Clinton and Gore both stated that Saddam had WMD and was a major threat to the US. It’s on record. Stop trying to re-write history to suit your naive and moveon “Bush lied” rhetoric. Only when the CIA releases the info (10-20 years) will we know how, when and how many terrorist attacks he thwarted. What Bush’s problem is, is that he doesn’t gloat. He should. He has saved American citizen’s lives.
I wish I had time to counter everything, but I am busy at work. So let me just address two points. # 10 – He failed to help Katrina victims. This says it all. A socialist’s creed. A category 5 hurricane was bearing down on a city that was below sea-level. There was 4-days notice it was coming. Mandatory evacuations were given to get out! There shouldn’t have been any victims to help. They should have all been on one of those hundreds of unused buses. This was Ray, I am a dumb ass, Nagins failure and the people who ignored the mandatory evacuation. Bad hurricanes hit all over the south during Bush’s terms. Why was this one different. Oh yea, look who was governing the city and the state. Now it’s clear.
And for Bush IQ. Did you ever know why Kerry refused to release his college transcript until after the election? It’s because Bush graduated from Yale with a higher GPA than Kerry. Fact. I know, southerners with a twang are all stupid according to you left coast libs. You always look down your nose at others. But that dumb-ass southerner kept you safe. He didn’t care what French, Italians or Germans thought of him. He was the President of the United States and only cared that terrorists hated him and feared our military might, and for good reason. Libya got the message. Bush also knew that starting democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan will serve a long term goal. You guys can’t figure it out, but that stupid Bush did. That doesn’t say a lot for you.
Oh yes, sure sure, one study by two conservative economists, seventy some years after the fact makes it all true. FDR was terrible. Hmm…can you say “Only four term president in history”?
Again, sigh…anyone can twist facts and figures to fit their biased beliefs. Sorry, that’s not what the history books say. But again, I know, it’s all a liberal conspiracy! The history books are just all lies. Sorry, you’re not going to convince anyone when you take a ridiculous stance like that. History proves otherwise.
This is so hard for me. I want to do the right thing and support Obama, but I am having SUCH as hard time getting over the way you all treated President Bush over the past 8 years. He is our President and deserved respect, just as you all are asking for Obama. You Bush haters never gave him an ounce, no benefit of the doubt.. just vile hatred and you shared it with the world. This hurt our country SO BADLY.
We needed to be united like never before the past 8 years. You refused. You were so angry about the 2000 and 2004 elections, you couldn’t do the right thing. You criticized him for things that you praised Clinton for. Gore and Clinton ran by criticizing Bush Sr. for not taking Sadam out… (go back and look at the campaign speeches) yet you all went along and agreed with it. Then when Bush Jr. did something, you HATED. Clinton took pre-emptive action against Iraq, Bosnia, etc. He wasn’t faced with 9-11 either. Now, since your guy won, you ask that we heal?
How ironic that you give a pass to your party.. the leftist, angry, haters that have contributed to such destruction of our country here and around the world. You mocked your own country, you made fun and it turned you on. Now, you would like conservatives to support you and not do the same to Obama. Convince me, help me understand how you can expect this now? It’s a “treat others like you want to be treated” issue, right?
Again, I want to do the right thing…. but how can there be healing if the left will take no responsibility for how we got here? After all, all sides play a role and we are all in it together.. therefore, we all own responsibility for the state our country is in. If you want healing, it’s time you leftist haters realize that eliminating the ideals of half of America isn’t the answer.
Oh…good and decent people? Bush and Cheney!!!??? Hah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…..Oh boy, that made my day. I haven’t had such a good laugh in a really long time. THANK YOU! Ha ha ha ha.
and Bush kept my House from being burning down -
except it was never on FIRE!!!
Sheesh, what a lot of dribble on both sides. Wow, one side lost and the other won. Everyone is acting like this never happens. Well it does, sometimes every four year, sometimes eight. We have had bad Presidents before and survived, I somehow think we can get through it. Yeah, it may be a bit painful (Carter certainly was), but it got us Reagan in return.
While I didn’t vote for BO, I can appreciate the history behind this. People, corrupt Chicago machine lackey or not, he has really done something historic and the fact that we are country that finally got to this point is a great thing. I wish it had been someone like Powell instead of him, but I can look at this and go “Wow, we have come far.”
Of course, that being said, the left can just go and jump off a bridge about this hate talk from the right. I was on the Daily Kos in 2004 right after the election and to say it was mean is a gross understatement. I have had to listen to this garbage from the left for 8 years. We on the right can be either classy about it and drive on (preferred method), take the Kos Road and be a bunch of whiny, nasty foul mouthed punks (not preferred, but admittedly more fun), or split the road and do a bit of both. I figure option 3 with more emphasis on the classy myself.
Right now, you on the left have it all. Majority in COngress and the White House. Good for you. But remember it always swings back and its always smart politics to stay in with the outs. Any screw up, any mess, any stupid crap that happens is your baby now. No more Bush to beat on, no more rigged votes to complain about, no more straw men to tear down.
It ALL yours, time to put up or shut up.
And can this talk about the fairness doctrine. If we put up with your very loud and very insulting comments for 8 years on every media outlet in America, I think you can deal with talk radio.
wrong – we want you to jump on anything Obama does that is stupid.
im sure it will be less than George Bush
and you wont have his speech to pick on like we did!
Hi John.
Well, writing an artice like that on PJM was always going to be a hostage to fortune as PJM readers took the oportunity to express “either a congratulations to Obama, a recognition that having the first black president was a historic moment for America, or some combination thereof.”
‘It’s funny, when I was in school they taught us that FDR pulled us out of the Great Depression’
You’re right. That is funny.
“Oh…good and decent people? Bush and Cheney!!!??? Hah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha…..Oh boy, that made my day. I haven’t had such a good laugh in a really long time. THANK YOU! Ha ha ha ha.”
And you expect all conservatives to treat Obama nicely, now that he’s in office? Payback’s a bitch and you’ve got EIGHT years of treason to atone for. Forgive and forget? Never. It’s war to the knife.
[...] And, as an American, I hope that Obama can be effective as president, and that he performs well in office. His biggest obstacle will not be the Republicans, it will be the extremists in his own party [...]
To Clyde: B*llshit! Seriously.
Clinton had no intention of invading Iraq, so he had no compelling reason to amp up the intel gathering there — which is sort of what you have to do when contemplating an invasion. Bush has no such excuse.
Not only did Bush have vastly more military and intel resources in the general area than Clinton ever did courtesy of Afghanistan, the overall intel gathering was ramped up a LOT, especially with the return of the UN Inspectors and with special forces poking about. And they were all finding squat and diddly for WMD’s. As far as ties with other terrorist organizations, Hussein supported the Palestinians, and that was it (all the other stuff you heard, especially from Stephen “F*ckhead” Hayes, was never more than toadying, lying BS.) Bothersome to Israel but of no real security consequence to the US. Indeed, Hussein was apparently so freaked out by 9/11 and having his name connected to it that he was on his best behavior in years.
So Bush lied, mislead, lied some more, and mislead some more still, over and over again about everything and anything connected to Iraq. There was never any evidence of an WMD stockpile or program (and what there was of it in the past was strictly for the “benefit” of Hussein’s mortal enemy, Iran.) And the supposed ties to al-Qaeda was just yanked out of their butts.
The most blatent lie occurred Back in September 17, 2003 when Bush told reporters, “There’s
no question that Saddam Hussein had al-Qaeda ties.”
At that point, all the best evidence had Hussein and bin Laden as rivals with little use for each other, and al-Zarqawi was no link either — while there were rumors about him getting medical treatment in Baghdad at one point (but some of those same rumors also included him losing a leg, which he somehow managed to grow back by the time of his death), there’s no question that Hussein had instead actively searched to capture him at some point for unclear reasons.
So in the months prior to the invasion, there was no real evidence for either WMD’s or ties to al-Qaeda, which means that everything that came out of Bush’s mouth and that of his people saying or suggesting otherwise at that time and after was utter and complete, deliberate lying.
You’re relying on FAIR for a fair analysis of election results? What?
1. Got us into a totally unnecessary war by lying about WMD’s.
EVERYONE thought there were WMDs in Iraq. Even Clinton. Being wrong!=lying
2. There were no terrorists in Iraq until after we invaded, then they swarmed in like flies.
Wrong.
3. His gunboat diplomacy alienated most of our alies and made us look like stupid, reactionary bullies.
Wrong. People don’t like Americans regardless of who the president is. We’re too successful.
4. Let the big oil companys practically write his environmental policy for him.
What?
5. Gave huge no-bid contracts to Haliburton.
The only company that could fulfill the requirements of the contracts. And prosecuted the mistakes that were made.
6. Approved the torture of prisoners of war.
What?
7. Gave huge tax breaks to the rich and to mega-corporations.
Gee? I got a tax break, does that make me rich?
8. Responsible for the biggest deficit in the history of the world.
Where do spending bills originate? Who’s responsible for the current financial crisis?
9. Eroded civil liberties with his Big Brother inspired “Patriot Act”.
Whatever. I also await those whose rights were impinged upon to be release by Pres. O.
10. Failed to help Katrina victims.
What the hell are you talking about? How much money have we thrown at that sinkhole known as New Orleans? I guess his mistake was expecting too much out of Mr Nagin. Or is that racist? I guess Pres. Obama will be able snap his fingers and make things magically appear out of thin air?
Steve, and they enacted the 2 term limit after that.
. nick:
wrong – we want you to jump on anything Obama does that is stupid.
im sure it will be less than George Bush
and you wont have his speech to pick on like we did!
_______________________
Yes we do have his speech to pick on. He obviously did too many drugs, and it definately impacted his speech. Guess you haven’t seen what happens when the teleprompter malfunctions? Worse… his studdering, “um, er, uh, um, sir, eh, um”
Steve–My father was a loyal Democrat all his life. However, he also had a degree in economics, and he told me, back in the 1960′s , that the New Deal didn’t end the Depression–WWII did. I think you’ll find that’s been economic orthodoxy for a long time. FDR did some good things–he rallied the nation at a time of crisis, and he provided much needed relief to an impoverished population. He did stop the downward spiral of the economy, but made the mistake of taking more and more of it under government control, instead of releasing back to the private sector. The war ended the Depression because suddenly the government had to pay millions of dollars to arms manufacturers, railroads, uniform manufacturers, etc.
We now have over nearly a century’s experience with socialism and it’s offspring–running the gamut from the New Deal to hard-line communism –and the one consistent result is that governments cannot make economies grow, and that often, they make them shrink.
Hey… why is Obama acting like we need capitalism to fix the problems? After all, high taxes on the rich and social programs (bottom up economics) is the superior solution as he told his followers? Also, why hasn’t socialism, the superior financial model, prevented serious financial problems in Europe? Did he lie and convince economic ignorant followers that the answer to our problems is to “get them damn rich people”? It’s sort of like he admitted to Bill O’Reiley that hiking taxes in a bad economy is bad for the economy?
Well… if high taxes in a bad economy is bad and will stiffle growth, as he admitted…. Then how can high taxes in a good economy be good and not slow growth?
Yes, I think that Obama was much friendlier with William Ayers than him “just being a guy in the neighborhood”, as Obama said at first (note, that he did change his stance on that a couple of times). There is ample evidence of this.
WHAT EVIDENCE? YOU HAVE NONE. YOU JUST “THINK” HE WAS MORE THAN FRIENDS. BEING IN AN ORGANIZATION WITH SOMEONE DOESN’T AUTOMATICALLY MAKE YOU BEST FRIENDS.
AGAIN, YOU “THINK” HE LIED ABOUT WHAT REV. WRIGHT MIGHT HAVE SAID IN THE CHURCH WHEN HE WAS THERE. YOU DON’T KNOW. YOU’VE SEEN ONE TAPE OF AN EVENT WHICH OBAMA DID NOT ATTEND, BUT YOU ASSUME OBAMA MUST’VE BEEN BRAIN-WASHED BY THIS PREACHER. PLEASE!! HOW BLACK PREACHERS DO YOU KNOW AND HOW MANY INNER CITY CHURCH SERVICES HAVE YOU ATTENDED WHERE PEOPLE HAVE EXPRESSED BITTERNESS ABOUT THE GOVERNMENT? ALL YOU’RE DOING HERE IS PARROTING BACK THE ACCUSATIONS THAT THE MCCAIN/PALIN TICKET THROUGH AGAINST THE WALL DURING THE ELECTION.
THE CONVERSATION THAT THIS LITTLE PHRASE WAS TAKEN FROM, BETWEEN JOE-THE-LIAR AND OBAMA, SAYS NOTHING ABOUT TAKING ONE GROUP’S MONEY AND GIVING IT TO ANOTHER GROUP. HE SAID “SPREAD THE WEALTH” AS A GENERAL REACTION TO THE FACT THAT 1% OF POPULATION HAS 40% OF NATION’S WEALTH. THAT WOULD EVEN MAKE ADAM SMITH CRINGE. EVERYBODY WHO WORKS PAYS TAXES. IN ORDER TO GET MONEY BACK FROM THE GOVERNMENT, YOU HAVE TO FILE A TAX RETURN, OTHERWISE THE GOVERNMENT HAS NO IDEA WHERE TO SEND THE CHECK. A PERSON WHO ISN’T WORKING IS NOT GOING TO FILE A 1040. SO, IF YOU’RE ON A PAYROLL AND FILING, YOU’RE PAYING SDI AND FEDERAL WITHHOLDING (UNLESS YOU’RE EXEMPT).
If you remember, it was Senator Obama who chose JOE to speak with, not the other way around.
THIS IS NOT TRUE. WATCH THE TAPE. JOE APPROACHED OBAMA AS HE WAS WALKING THROUGH THE CROWD AND ASKED HIM A QUESTION. OBAMA WAS GRACIOUS ENOUGH TO STOP AND TALK TO HIM. THE IRONY IS THAT OBAMA TAX PLAN WOULD BENEFIT JOE MORE THAN MCCAIN’S, BUT JOE WAS TOO DIM TO UNDERSTAND THAT.
As for judging Obama by the “worst people he has ever been in the same room with, rather than the best”, its the fact of how MANY people of the worst kind that he has chosen to associate with over the years, and the denial of such in front of evidence to the contrary.
AGAIN, WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY ASSOCIATE? YOU DON’T KNOW. OBAMA WAS CHOSEN TO LEAD THE ANNENBERG GROUP IN CHICAGO BY THE ANNENBERG’S, WHO ARE STAUNCH REPUBLICANS. DON’T YOU THINK THEY KNEW AYERS WAS INVOLVED? AYERS WAS CITIZEN OF THE YEAR IN CHICAGO IN 1997. HE WAS NOT A SERIAL KILLER. IN FACT, HE NEVER KILLED ANYBODY. HE DID RESORT TO VIOLENT PROTESTS OF THE VIETNAM WAR, AS DID THOUSANDS OF OTHER PEOPLE IN THAT ERA. RICHARD NIXON, JOHN MITCHELL, AND J. EDGAR HOOVER BRANDED HIM A DOMESTIC TERRORIST. AS I RECALL THEY ALSO VIOLATED THE CONSTITUTION THEMSELVES.
TAXES ARE GOING UP. FACE IT. THE INFRASTRUCTURE OF THE COUNTRY IS IN THE TOILET. THE SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM IS ON THE VERGE OF COLLAPSE. THE NATIONAL DEBT IS IN ORBIT AND THERE IS GOING TO BE ANOTHER STIMULUS PACKAGE. YOU CAN’T DEAL WITH ANY OF THAT WITHOUT SOMEBODY’S TAXES GOING UP. SO WHO’S TAXES ARE YOU GOING TO RAISE? THE MIDDLE CLASS?
OF COURSE OBAMA IS OPPORTUNISTIC. SINCE WHEN IS AMBITION A VICE? AND WHAT UP & COMING POLITICIAN HASN’T HAD A LONG LIST OF CHARACTERS TRYING TO GAIN INFLUENCE WITH THEM? NONE! NO POLITICIAN IS PERFECTLY INSULATED FROM THE PEOPLE WHO WANT FAVORS BUT DON’T DESERVE THEM. ASK JOHN MCCAIN ABOUT CHARLES KEATING. THE REAL QUESTION SHOULD BE, ARE THEY SMART ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THE PROBLEMS WE FACE, AND ARE THEY WORKING WITH A STRONG TEAM TO SOLVE THEM. EVERYTHING ELSE IS CRAP.
Wow, i’ve said it before. Unless the right gets over this terrorist loving BS, and actually learns what socialism and marxism really are, you’ll be out in the wilderness. When teh country wants leadership and ideas, you should probably give them leadership and ideas. Not BS and easly refuted overblown accusations.
That style of governing by keeping the people divided and the government dysfunctional is dead, get over it and return to actual issues. McCain couldn’t have talked about issues if he wanted to the right was so rabid and dysfunctional.
BTW I have some tinfoil hats I made if any of you want some. becuase I’m sure obama is spying on you already…
This country depserately needs AT LEAST TWO well functioning parties concerned with ISSUES. The GOP just handed the Dems (and 2 clowns Pelosi and Reid) unchecked power on a platter becuase they stuck with the ridiculous notion that they could turn a centrist candidate/policies into a socialist lefty. It didn’t work, stop your whining and get to work!!
The country as a whole is centrist/center-right. Not extreme right.
Paul Ryan, Bobby Jindal, Tim Pawlenty, Charlie Christ those are you ways back to respectfullness. Not Coulter and Rush.
Ben McDonald #30
Well said, Ben.
To anyone who thinks conservatives will (or even can) dump their principles in the trashcan to get on board with evil or stupid leftists, I tell you this: You don’t have a clue about valued principles.
Ben, these voters who got Obama in office will pay a dear price for their ignorance, as will their descendants.
What must conservatives do to save the good old U.S.A.? We’d better begin looking at Million Man/Woman Marches, huge protests at the nation’s capitals, every non-violent means necessary to object to government redistributing monies that WE earned, taking away our Constitutional rights, and whatever else they propose to sink the United States into a socialist country.
Jeff, you noted “there were listed hundreds upon hundreds of vicious, hateful, violent, despicable comments on Obama, Democrats and those who support them.” This same thing has gone on non-stop on DailyKos and other left wing rantfests for eight years. And most of it does not even reference policies. It’s just ugly vindictive rancor by sophomoric buffoons who can’t summon one lucid sentence of the English language You can’t have it both ways pal. We’ve been taking it for a long time, so suck it up and pray your guy can cut it. If he can’t take a little criticism then he has no business being President, and we’re all in trouble.
Why should I be gracious and “accept” Barry? An elected scumbag is STILL a scumbag. I thought he was one during the election. To do otherwise now would be hypocritical.
I don’t act this way because of the left’s Bush Derangement Syndrome. I dislike Barry because he’s a marxist, terrorist-loving, lying, corrupt, racist, Chicago politician, that thinks outdated, dangerous, progressive ideas from the early 20th century are needed in 21st America and thinks that the Constitution is an impediment to “change”. He and his ilk in Congress want to take away my rights as described in the 1st and 2nd Amendment.
So, tell me again why conservatives need to congratulate this evil man?
You know, I’ve found it’s great fun to pop over to the Kos and get a conversation going then start hitting them with some subtle jabs. By the time they figure out what’s happening they’ve got themselves so knotted up that they just seem to twitch…they’re so confounded they can’t even reply. But then again it’s not surprising. Most of the contributors over there seem to have nothing but hatred and vitriol to communicate with.

”
I find the same thing over here….
an awful lot of liberals telling conservatives in their own house to shut up and get over it.
I expect to be writing every representative that will or won’t listen on how to oppose the worst of the new Presidents policies just like I protested all the Bush idiocies like Immigration amnesty, the bailout, harriet miers and a host of other problems. Republicans have no monopoly on unwise and corrupt policies and BHO is not entitled to any good faith “honeymoon” on union card check, more bailouts, courting defeat in the Middle East by negotiating with terrorists …
l I believe Andrew Jackson best summarized the importance of restraining government. “The farmer, mechanic and tradesman have no time to petition the government for favors at the expense of the public and should not be disadvantaged in their livlihood by those merchants, bankers and their bought public men who do”
If BHO gets William cold cash Jefferson and Ted bridge to nowhere Stevens both thrown out of the legislative branch I will begin to believe in bipartisan ship again
end of rant
Unbelievable! Half these posts look like they were written by inmates of a prison for the criminally insane! Absolutely delusional most of these!
It’s no wonder that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has turned it’s attention to the world’s conservative right-wingers as being the most likely source of any future terrorist attacks. Thankfully, they are a minority of any given society. And the internet now gives us the ability to “spy” on conservatives as they talk among themselves and say what they really think. This was very difficult for an outsider prior to the web.
This brings up their constant wailing over a news-media that has a strong liberal bias. How is that possible? Any fool can look at the fact that the media is owned by the Rupert Murdoch’s and Roger Aile’s’ of the world; that the most highly paid and well known personalities are RWCs like Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, etc. etc., etc.; who are themselves dominating the TV and radio airwaves of a country that itself is right-of-center; that these news-anchors and talk show hosts are responsible to the board-members and stockholders! So how in the hell can anyone /even briefly/ consider that the media has a left-wing or liberal bias????!! It’s such an absurd idea that one would think a person would be too embarrassed to even say such a thing out loud! But say it you do!…and then repeat it…. ad nauseum!
So the big question is…Why? What does saying the media is “librul” accomplish for you all? The answer to that is it apparently allows you to reject – out of hand – anything that you hear or read that conflicts with what you already think you know about who to blame for your own miserable life. It lets you fight and die in foreign lands over lies, and it lets you work for the very people telling the lies and who only pay you enough to just get by.
But most of all, by ignoring facts you can then go ahead and keep believing that there’s a God up there who loves /you/ despite your judgmental ways.
So, in it’s simplest form, conservatism allows people to reject a fact-based explanation of existence, in favor of more comforting, simple, albeit imaginary world where’s there’s no nasty surprises and the good guys (you of course) are always the winners.
But living a life of comfortable delusion may have been fine before the neolithic revolution, but it is very dangerous in our post-nuclear world. After WW2, many governments asked scientists to look into the reasons why so many people could follow and continue defending men like Hitler or Stalin, some even long /after/ learning of the atrocities they committed. And that’s when the “RWA/SDO embrace” (Right-Wing Authoritarian – Social Dominance Oriented) of conservatism came to light.
Thankfully, the existence of this conservative syndrome is now widely accepted among leading scientists, including those at DHS as well. It will take some time for this knowledge to break out of the universities and work it’s way down into the general fabric of society, but at least it’s there…and it’s on it’s way.
Please read the research available via the DHS Counter-Terrorism Panel working at Maryland:

Hi Donna V.
Thanks for your contributions. You’ll find additional criticism of the New Deal in “The Roosevelt Myth”, by John T. Flynn.
Incidentally, FDR personally wrote a letter to The New Republic suggesting that Flynn “should be barred hereafter from the columns of any presentable daily paper, monthly magazine, or national quarterly.” Sure enough, Flynn was fired.
To Cheesehead: How can you in all seriousness compare what goes on here with Kos? If you are seen as having Conservative views while posting on Kos you get banned! As a matter of fact, Conservative talking points are listed as one of the many issues that gets your posting rights revoked. They cannot hack it! They don’t want to see any dissent from “The Rant”. There’s very little substance. Practically no facts whatsoever. They complain with the vocabulary of a seventh-grader. Blame for things not going their way (CA Prop 8 for example) is blamed on conspiracy. They can’t accept the fact that when the people speak on a subject by voting in a fair election that it is exactly the same as people speaking by voting for their guy. At least here you get to express an opinion, and you don’t get ousted for simply expressing a dissenting opinion.
DonnaV – Everyone seem to ignore that fact that we finally came out of the Depression when the Government infused a huge amount of money into the economy during the War. Hmmn – so much for the ineffectiveness of Government intervention
Well, tell that to Steve, nobody seems to have ever explained that to him.
And, yes, just what we need – a big world war instead of these little penny-ante wars that haven’t done a thing for the economy! Boy, that’s a reassuring take on things!
Congratulations to Obama, and all the liberal candidates who benefited from his long coattails. It truly was an amazing election that kept conservative candidates, such as myself, from gaining a participatory seat at the table. Let us now focus on the future and see how a liberal one-party government can solve fiscal, societal, environmental, and international problems. We’ve seen what 2 years of Democratic Congressional control has done to our finances, let us HOPE it improves. Obama has made many promises and policy statement, many which are posted by the American Association of International Law at http://www.asil.org/obama.cfm. Obama will be the President of ALL Americans. We will support Obama when he is right, and will oppose him when he is wrong. We will be watching and the midterm elections will be his first report card.
And Cheesehead, I agree with much of what you say regarding the proper approach for the GOP in the future. “Paul Ryan, Bobby Jindal, Tim Pawlenty, Charlie Christ those are you ways back to respectfullness. Not Coulter and Rush.” Coulter and Rush are for entertainment purposes only. If they were serious about their views they should run for something. School board, town council…something. My thought has always been Lead,Follow, or get the hell out of the way, but DO something. I would add one other name to the list of future GOP leaders. Mike Pence. Good guy, hard worker, traditional values. Speaks his mind, all the time, every time.
“As far as ties with other terrorist organizations, Hussein supported the Palestinians”
Not true. The main terror group the Baathists supported was the MEK, which had nothing to do with “Palestine”.
Anyway, “Palestinian” terrorists aren’t allowed to kill Americans, and the Baathists aren’t allowed to support terrorists who kill Americans, and if they do (and they did), that means war.
Bush was right to invade Iraq. Should have been done long ago.
I really can’t believe the total lack of self-awareness of many of these comments. I can only conclude that people are just blind to their own faults and behaviors. Yeah, how dare Republicans say anything about Obama? Now that an election has resulted in the *correct* person being chosen as president, we can all just get along like rational people.
Where the hell was all this goodwill and fellow-feeling, say, a year ago? Where was it when Sara Palin was a c**t?
Talk about hypocrisy…
After reading all posts searching for something and I found it in n. 147
“If you are seen as having Conservative views while posting on Kos you get banned! As a matter of fact, Conservative talking points are listed as one of the many issues that gets your posting rights revoked.”
I trust this person on the word, I won’t sink so low to try it myself.
—————————–
leftists, no matter how you twist it and turn it, you cannot say that the same thing happens here. You have no other reason to come here other than insult the other part, especially now that the race is over.
You have no right to talk about fairness.
Surfing around your areas with different ideas calls for immediate banning.
This is how you operate. The original article was right.
BC – I read your link about Lebron. The guy was a non-citizen detained on alleged immigration violations. Not quite the same as a dissident citizen imprisoned for his politics. In fact, the article doesn’t say what Lebron’s politics were (if any), or what country he’s a citizen of. Presumably he could have gotten out of jail right away had he agreed to be deported back to that country. All that said, he had lawyers (otherwise, what “legal expenses” would there have been?) And he had his day in court.
But all that said, an injustice may have been done to the man; the article simply doesn’t have enough information for me to be sure. I do know that the immigration system can be very picky and hyper-bureaucratic even in the best of times. These are not the best of times. If you believe Obama is going to tell them not to dot the I’s and cross the T’s, think again. Hopefully you won’t turn out to be one of those “Leftists” like Ralph Nader who has just now derided Obama as an “Uncle Tom.”
What we need to do to prevent a repeat of this tragedy is to ban open primaries, which were easily sabotaged by Dems putting an unelectable “maverick,” whom conservatives had a personal grudge against, at the top of the ticket.
Giuliani could have won handily, and would have been willing to fight, goddamit. McCain was too intent on losing with grace, and ended up merely losing.
Rudy/Palin would be nice.
What we really need above all is another “Contract with America,” highlighting the deal-makers and the deal-killers of policy, and anybody who wants funds and campaign assistance from the GOP must adhere to its principles. No more leaning across the aisle like Reed Richards. No more RINOs. We need a purge of all the wishy-washy Dem-lites.
And don’t lump Rudy in with the RINOs. He is conservative where it counts: with the Constitution, with law enforcement, with combatting corruption and with the war on terror. And taxes.
A Swedish film crew videotaped a Fayetteville NC elementary school teacher mocking a child (the daughter of a soldier presently serving in Iraq)because the child said she supported McCain. The video shows the teacher telling the girl that she wouldn’t see her father again for 100 years if McCain was elected and the child getting teary-eyed.
Yeah, there’s the public education system for you. Bullying and mocking a little child who expresses a contrary political opinion. And that’s the totalitarian left.
And the leftists here whine and blubber because boo, hoo Ann Coulter or commentators on PJM said something mean about Obama? Oh, you poor precious darlings.
Here’s the video of the teacher bullying the child (Scroll down):

I guess Mr. Hawkins has to salve his wounds by donning the moth eaten, worn out mantle of moral superiority that his crew of small minds wore out years ago.
As far as those true conservatives, the base and common small minds commonly called the base, you are the most shrill, stupid narrow minded hypocritical people in the USA now. You let two bit talk show hosts, the used car salesmen of the media, fill your laughably tiny minds with the most petty, irrelevant trivia and hype. You are no better or no more true americans than I or the average Democratic voter. Like the ugly hatefilled fanatics you are, you light on your opposites in the left camp and use them as justification for your hate and paranoia.
The worse amongst you are the theocons, to call you stupid, petty unspiritual and hypocritical would be charitable. You use your religion for the same reason they spray that noxious deodorant around the local treatment plant, to cover your stink. You cry about how persecuted you are, give me a break, do you really believe those self pitying lies? I’m sure there are Gulag and Death Camp survivors, as well as Jim Crow era blacks or old Jews, who would laugh at what you call discrimination. It’s more like being laughed at for your exceptionally small minds. Yeah, cry about Evolution, that is such an important issue. Then call the Evolutionists Nazis, good work! Jeez, in a world full or misery, oppression and want, you find the pettiest crap to whine about.
What the heck do any of you have to whine about? You are so safe, clean , well fed, prosperous and relatively free. What is the problem? Like your dimwit idol Sarah Palin, the queen of the the people who are too stupid to realize how shallow they are and don’t know that Africa is a continent, you honestly need to take a look around the world, or even parts of this country, and realize just how damm good you have it.
Basically, this less to do with politics for I believe we need less welfare state and government and more to do with attitudes, and your attitudes stink and it turned off America this time. Yes, you love Ameriuca, and hate most of the people here.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Read the comments on the posts that immediately followed Obama’s win. You people were whining like the best of the liberals! Sure, there were a few bloggers that were smart enough to be gentlemen, but seriously – you guys were howling like the world was ending. Un-be-lievable.
This article is 80% false.
The “not for profit, but for patriotism” line was taken completely out of context. McCain wasn’t knocking profit or free enterprise; he was knocking Mitt Romney’s ego. Had it been Huckabee’s turn, he would have turn Romney’s ego into a joke. McCain doesn’t make jokes during debates; he just scolds the young whipper snapper who comes out with a huge ego, acting like he’s the only one who is qualified to be President.
Donna V.:
Your hypocrisy is a product of your small mindedness. LGF is the e-home of the sub-mammalian thinkers, so it doesn’t surprise me that you link to that Kalifornian creep’s site.
So I guess your point, which I am trying to glean from your pointless tirade, is that this teacher and event speaks for all liberals but Anne Coulter garbage and insults. broadcasted world wide, are so much better.
Don’t hold back, Horace. Tell us what you really think. Show us how tolerant the left is to those that have different values. Your ilk would NEVER call anyone Nazis. As to being shrill and hypocritical, been to DailyKos? No shrillness there. Of course, they have hate and paranoia. Your side is paranoid and hateful for good reason…Bush is Hitler. His fascism is going to put you in a camp..oh, wait….never mind.
Your guy won. Why the anger? The religious conservatives don’t hate you. They pity people like you. You’re just sad. While we use our “used car salesmen of the media” to entertain, you apparently use yours to get a fellow used car salesman elected.
Bigot.
Horace Wells:
I can see the eight-year-long mental illness you and your ilk have suffered from are not healed by your messiah’s ascending his throne.
And how someone like you dares to talk about other people “whining” after not just the last eight years, but the last four decades I’ll never know.
The bile and poison you have injected into public discourse in this country has finally borne fruit, and you have your man in power largely as a result. You’ve got what you want. Haven’t you spewed enough hatred? Threatened enough violence? When does this end?
Conservatives don’t hate you, Horace, even though you hate them. They pity you.
So, I watched that video of the evil “librul” teacher, and the thing that stood out is…..nothing you said happened…happpened! There was no “mocking” of some teary-eyed child like I expectd to see, but rather I saw a bunch of adolescent kids saying why they picked a particular candidate, and a *teacher* who *taught* them (because that’s what teachers do, after all!) that McCain had said /the troops/ (not her Daddy!) would stay there for 100 years if that’s what it took. Which is precisely what he said. Where’s the fault?
*Now Obama has to convince at least 56 million people that he’s fit to lead. I wish him luc*
Gotta say, love Jim Treacher. And he’s right. The dems bought the presidency and the congress. Its in their hands now and while they can try to deflect blame, they’ve had a congressional majority since 06 and a president until 2012.
You’re bought this shitty economy, the difficult middle east situation, Iran breathing down the necks of Israel (who IS our closest ally, despite NY jews attempts to distance themselves from israel). Dems have NO excuse when they fail, which they will. And not because I want them to – I know they’ll tank the economy, allow all kinds of agressive moves by foreign powers etc.
But in 4 years. What’s the makeup ? Libs, you have the ball. You better land that f-14 or we’re gonna make sure you wash out. And then we’ll fix things with capitalism. I think Bush deserves alot more credit for keeping the country’s economy in tact despite everything thing thrown at him. Will Obama pull it off ? Well, he’s an untested socialist.
LGF is the e-home of the sub-mammalian thinkers, so it doesn’t surprise me that you link to that Kalifornian creep’s site
Horace, I dare you to find me one racist statement by Charles Johnson. Just one. Criticism of Islam terrorists doesn’t count. Really, if LGF is the home of “sub-mammalian thinkers” it shouldn’t be difficult at all.
mycos: Next time try watching the video when you’re not drunk.
One major criterion continually reappears in distinguishing left from right: attitudes toward equality.
The left favours greater equality, while the right sees society as inevitably hierarchical.
The distinguishing mark of this conservatism, as indeed it is of any brand of conservatism, is the fear of change which then becomes transformed in the political arena into a fear of radicals and new ideas.
This characterization is consistent with many historical and political definitions of conservative and right-wing ideology.”
Brought to you by those left-wing radicals now working for DHS using the title of the “Center of Excellence for Research on the Behavioral and Social Aspects of Terrorism and Counterterrorism”. (obviously a leftie fifth column, eh fellow wing-nuts?)
http://terpconnect.umd.edu/~hannahk/conservatism.html
Read ‘em, and weep, wing-nuts. Your days as socially acceptable bigots and self-delusional liars are numbered.
Back in the closet you go…back where you were for all those decades before Reagan made greed and stupidity into something many Americans thought was normal.
“Also, why hasn’t socialism, the superior financial model, prevented serious financial problems in Europe?”
Er, Europe isn’t socialist, European countries have mixed economic systems just like the US has (and Japan, Australia Korea etc).
Mycos: “The left favours greater equality, while the right sees society as inevitably hierarchical.”
The left feels the need to legislate equality, which in the end demeans the very people you claim to be striving for. We believe that everyone is born equal, inasmuch as we are born with the right to life (funny how that concept pops up when you really don’t want it to, isn’t it?), liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. What you then do with those is up to you. I have no problem with giving a helping hand to someone who has a run of bad luck, or is the victim of corruption or greed. But I really don’t believe it’s right to claim that everyone is equal in all things. For instance, I’m very well suited to mathematics. My wife’s thing is grammer. I hate breaking down sentence structure, and quite honestly, I’m terrible at it. So does that mean that a school should be forced to hire me simply to make things fair? You see, equality is a concept that exists in nature already. It will make itself known as societies progress, without the government using it’s normal ham-fisted tactics. They seem to start well, then always over-reach. It was a good thing to make sure that mortgage practices were being handled fairly;it was a bad thing to force mortgages through for people that could not really afford them. That backfired horriby. And it was all so that we could say we were being “fair” and “equal”. Well guess what? Some folks don’t make as much money as others, and that’s just honest sociology and economics. The free market keeps things in balance; people sign on for what they can afford, and the market doesn’t allow them to get in nearly as much trouble. This is just one example of legislated equality. Equality in ALL things is not possible. I will never be the equal of John McCain or Barak Obama. They do some things better than I do, and I do somethings better than they. But we do have the same opportunities, because we are protected by the same …Constitution.
It’s also heartening to realize that as president Mr. Obama will soon be working hand-in-hand with a former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard like Senator Robert Byrd to craft the incoherent and destructive programs that will plunge the American economy into a nightmare of full-blown sustained depression. As Vice President-Elect Joe Biden has repeatedly warned, there will be difficult times ahead and the programs will not always be popular, or even sane. But as we look out over the wreckage of bankrupt coal companies, nationalized banks, and hyperinflation, we can always look back with sustained pride on the great National Reconciliation of 2008. Call me an optimist, but I like to think when America’s breadlines erupt into riots it will be because of our shared starvation, not the differences in our color.
Bipartisanship – definition: We are in power now so agree with us.
America got what she asked for and sold out to the highest bidder.
As for no racism in this election; look at the percentage of whites who voted for Obama vs McCain and then look at the percentage of blacks who voted for McCain vs Obama and tell me which group sees color! (oops, not suppose to say that)
Obama- Bidden- Pelosi- Reed— do you know enough to be scared yet?
November 5, 2008–The SHAME of America
To all you lefties posting here, calling this article B.S., you missed the point. There are some gracious writers out there, and the writer is trying to use these respected individuals to encourage us all to be gracious. What do you do? You ridicule the guy who’s trying to garner some cooperation for your side. How stupid is that?
It gets better. Your side won. You can afford to be gracious. It hurts you not one bit. At the very least, you can just ignore us and allow us to just stew in our juices. Some of us may be bitter in our loss, but you are bitter in your victory. Which of us is actually behaving worse?
Why are you even here? You should still be out celebrating your win, but instead, you’re here rubbing our faces in our loss. You’ve won. There’s nothing left to say or prove. Go do something else. Let us sort this out ourselves. Your braying certainly won’t help us find the grace to come to terms with your side after our loss.
Honestly, I expected to be done with the Obamabots. Just kidding. Your reaction here is exactly what I expected of you.
Someone75 – I actually did expect better of you, but the above ended up applying to you as well.
Have you looked at the electoral map of votes? Supposed blue states have the majority of counties as voting red. The population centers with the majority of low income and diverse ethnic groups are voting blue. Since those areas have the majority of population for the state, they carry the states votes. Be interesting to see how elections would come out if electoral votes were split in all states. Shows that there is hope that America is still conservative at heart.
Victory for Obama- Defeat for America
Freedoms- Sold to the highest bidder!
“Be interesting to see how elections would come out if electoral votes were split in all states.”
It would be an interesting exercise and personally I think it would be fairer to operate the electoral college that way, it seems strange that a party could get 49.9999% of the vote in California and get no college votes while the party with 50.0001 gets all 55.
In the end though Obama got a good 6% of the popular vote more than McCain so whicever way you look at it he’d be likely to win.
It’s also interesting that in several states the Electors in the college are not actually required by law to cast their ballot for the candidate that has won the popular vote in their state. So if an individual elector just decided to vote in the college for x because they don’t like y, could anything be done about it?
It was easy for Obama to run a good campaign; the entire MSM never asked him anything more difficult than, “Senator, do you like puppies?”
Finally Joe the Plumber showed up and asked an actual tough question and Obama immediately stepped in it. And what was Joe’s reward? To be investigated more in a week than Obama has been since 2004.
Had McCain REALLY wanted to be elected, he’d have been asking questions like that for 9 months.
But he didn’t. Read the reports about how he was ambivalent about derailing the campaign of the first black candidate with a serious chance.
It should have been easy to beat a proto-Marxist. I could have done it.
Did you ever hear anything about how Obama’s promises couldn’t possibly add up and be executed? Not a peep from McCain. All we heard was the word “maverick” 100,000 times.
10% the market has fallen since Obama was elected!!
I trust the Hopeandchange will be worth it when you can’t get a job or a mortgage, all you idiot under-30s.
The left has nothing to complain about. The right is still just a shadow of the hateful vicious left that has been spouting for the last 8 years. I am really rather saddened by how many of the right have learned their bad behavior.
The lefts problem is really that they see any disagreement with their views as hateful and divisive. It’s ok when they spew at the right however because they hate us personaly with a deep abiding passion. I know of some that proclaim proudly that they know NO conservatives. I suppose they fear contamination, to hear ideas other than their own.
You can’t make this stuff up:
The day after the election, the Illinois State Lottery drew as its 3 number winner: 666.
Oops, I forgot to attribute my quote in post #171. It was written by Iowahawk.
Let’s hope it’s not prophetic.
I fully expect Obama to crash and burn. I hope he doesn’t, for all our sakes.
Barbara – “We now have over nearly a century’s experience with socialism and it’s offspring–running the gamut from the New Deal to hard-line communism”
So, do you consider the Social Security act socialism or communism????
Donna V. – Oh, yes, WWII helped us out of the depression…heh heh, whatever, I guess you never heard of rationing? I guess you never heard of the dire shortages such as copper (That’s why they made pennies out of steel in 1943) and rubber, etc.??? Oh yeah, great times.
But at least they didn’t have a deficit in the TRILLIONS of dollars. Two tiny little wars and the deficit grows into the trillions.
Have you all watched “Expelled”. If not, you must. Now… I am not religious, but do believe in God. This film will explain everything that is driving the “progressive movement”. The truth is they CANNOT allow ANY disent from the indoctrination of all society. The whole idea is that government, not God, must be the authority! All of you must understand how important this is. The reason they are so VIOLENTY mad at religion is because they need people to look to government for all answers, for what is right and wrong, etc. God gets in the way of that. For example.. if you allow God in society, you cannot establish laws that eliminate certain burdens on society.
Sort of explains the left position on abortion. They want you to see that, since we all just live and then die to rot in the ground, it shouldn’t matter if we kill the old and useless, abort the unwanted, etc. Hitler’s ideas were based on Darwinism. You engineer the society you want by killing off the ilk and useless, such as mentally ill, handicap, etc.
What is so completely facinating is how these Darwinism advocates admit that they CANNOT EXPLAIN where life (biological life) came from. One scientist states, “one theory is that it was attached to a crystal”. WHAT? At the end of the film, another guy states that life most likely came from intelligent life…. like from another universe, but most certainly there is no God. Funny, what if this intelligent life is really what we refer to as God?
I cannot stand the idea that we hear from the left “open your mind”, but they really only mean “open your mind for us to indoctrinate you with what we want you to know as fact, and nothing else”. No disent, no new ideas, no science to explore new ideas, etc. This is all a threat to Big Goverment God.
I consider Social Scecurity a giant Ponzi scheme that will come crashing down on us during the next few years as the Boomers start retiring en masse. Back in the ’30′s, life expectancy was shorter. Nobody expected millions of people to live into their 80′s and 90′s and collect SS benefits for 20+ years.
Western European countries are trying to scale back their social programs now because they recognize the demographic nightmare that is looming. Cradle to grave socialism only works with high birthrates. Europe has an aging population and low birthrates and there will not be enough workers to sustain their lavish welfare states for much longer. Immigration is not solving the problem for them because much of the immigrant population consists of low-wage, uneducated workers who do not assilimate and often end up on public assistance themselves. Why were all those cars burning in the Paris suburbs a few years ago?
Ironically, we are heading for socialism just as Europe is trying to back away from it. The Conservative Party in the UK is headed for a major win next year after years of New Labour socialism.
It’s grimly amusing to me that young Obamabots don’t recognize who will be paying for the old boomers on top of all the other social programs Obama wants to introduce. Yeah, kids, you’ll get your “fairness” alright.
Steve, your fellow leftist Robert Hurley admits that WWII got us out of the Depression. Those shortages existed because all materials went to the war effort. Ford and the other major auto makers introduced no new models between 1942 and 1945. That’s not because auto workers were not working – they were making tanks and airplanes, not cars. Who the hell said WWII was a great time? (Clearly, you’re too dumb to recognize sarcasm.) I was asking Robert if he really thinks the fact that 12 years of economic depression deepened by ineffectual state meddling followed by a massively bloody world war makes a good case for government intervention.
Really, Steve, you’re embarrassingly ignorant about the history of the ’30′s and ’40′s. I’m sure you probably think Jimmy Carter was a good president too. “Those who do not learn history are condemned to repeat it.” Well, better 1976 (although that was no picnic) than 1932.
Well said Donna V.. And I applaud your knowledge of the FDR era. But I think we’re wasting our breath. The Liberals will only acknowledge academically sound thinking when it conforms to their worldview. Otherwise they call it delusional fear mongering.
If all we have are two major political parties in this country that generally have hope of placing leaders in office, it is imperative that we have a robust republican party. We need two strong parties. I would have serious problems with the far right or far left of either major party. Somewhere in the center is where most Americans live and that is where elections are won. To try and turn a major election with Americans in serious economic turmoil with threatened loss of their homes and livelyhood in the balance, on McCarthyism was insane. It wouldn’t have mattered how early and often the attacks had started. What does calling someone a communist or socialist mean when 54% of the worlds goods are manufactured in Red China. Thanks to good old supply side economics, communism is the new capitalims, with none of those pesky environmental laws or food inspection or trade unions in the way. We have a huge trade deficit with the invasion of the Chinese cargo containers threatening our domestic economy. Get a grip. It seems the major problem we had with China was that with Mao Tse Tung in power we could’nt do business there. They still persecute religion and deny democracy and have nuclear missiles, but hey business is business.
Anybody that thinks Reverend Jeremiah Wright’s remarks in one sermon were a major campaign issue and out of the pail of protected religious speech does not know the Bible and has never read the major and minor prophets who regularly condemned the practices of Israel publically and called for judgement from God. Yea we got that. No candidate’s pastoral sermons that I know have ever been so called into question, and there are some out their on the right also. By the way, where does senator McCain go to church? Now what is your plan for the economic crises?
Has Carl Rove so poisened the party that negative campaigning is all there is. Years ago I worked in an effort to get a popular African-American Chicago U.S. Congressman to run for mayor of Chicago. Our registered voter numbers were so pitiful relative to our population that he refused to consider it unless we registered 50,000 unregistered voters. Black registration nationwide was a joke and that was a crime, considering how much it cost to achieve it. The Obama campaign and community leaders shamed us into registration and early voting. Getting serious about voting is patriotic.
Campaign finance: I can respect a person who considers one direction, but in the face of the facts makes a pragmatic decision to go in another direction. If I could raise money in droves on the internet, why would I participate in a socialistic public campaign finance system.
President Reagan for all his rhetoric was a pragmatist. He knew when to get out of Lebanon and cut our losses without worrying about intangibles like victory and honor- easy to say when someone else is bleeding. If Iraq was that important we needed a draft to take the disproportionate load off of our military fanilies.
Why all this diatribe?
I want republicans to get to work. Bring out some plans for grass roots economic business development instead of accusing everyone of waiting on welfare checks. Bring back the enterprise zones. Stop talking about tax and spend liberals when you are tax cut and spend conservatives. Make yourself a viable alternative for all kinds of people. Stop inbreeding with your base and get out to find what other people think. Stop driving people out of the big tent until all you have is a pup tent.
Donna V. That’s odd…If you look up FDR in wikipedia, it says that the recovery was incomplete until ALMOST 1940…hmm…I don’t think we had much to do with the war until 1941…duh…guess again.
And let’s see, The FDIC, The Securities and Exchange Commission, Social Security, etc. etc.
And if you don’t like Social Security, you can sign over your checks to me…..
But that’s just so typical of you Republicans, trying to re-write history to reflect your goofball ideas.
George Bush wouldn’t make a pimple on FDR’s butt by comparison.
Traditionalist – no, we call it history. As written. As opposed to this new attempt to re-write it using lies and half-truths.
But those have always been the tools of the Republican party. If you can win an argument, if you nobody likes your solutions, then use lies, slander and character assasinations against your opponent.
I guess the idea is that if you tell a lie enough times, people might start to believe it.
Sorry, a lie is a lie, no matter how strongly you promote it and how many times you tell it.
The history books speak for themselves. You can try to rewrite it but you can’t change the facts.
I see this is going nowhere, the rabid conservatives have their minds shut tight and when anyone tries to point out the obvious truth to them they put their hands over their ears and say LA LA LA LA LA LA very loudly. So I’ll just say one more thing…. Obama is your new president. Get used to it! I love it. Suck it up Republicans! Ha ha ha ha. And with the Dem majority in congress…We’ll bury you with our liberal agenda! Ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!
steve looks like those waco brainless that were happy to die in the fire.
The only obvious truth is that leftist worldwide all supported their right to be killed by the leader.
HA HA HA steve what a laugh. It sucks for you having less brain cells than the rest tho.
None of the public works pulled the US out of the depression. The US started supplying the Eurpoean allies with great amounts of materials in 1940 and the military started a giant rearmement program in 37 or 38. We didn’t enter the war until Dec 1941 but we were producing like crazy for several years before that.
FDR propped up the morale of many in the country but none of his programs were big enough to pull the country out of the Depression.
And this is no revisionism, it is all there if you really look.
Yeah, whatever, that Waco bunch were conservatives, not liberals. If you had 3 living brain cells you might know that. And it’s the wackos like Timothy McVie that supported them, another conservative.
Steve: you get your history from wiki? LOL! You’ve said volumes right there. Try reading a few books sometime. Then you might be able to fashion a cogent argument.
From Time Magazine’s “Top 100 Leaders”:
“Even Republicans have come to applaud this most successful of Democrats. Ronald Reagan voted four times for F.D.R. Newt Gingrich calls F.D.R. the greatest President of the century. Bob Dole praises F.D.R. as an “energetic and inspiring leader during the dark days of the Depression; a tough, single-minded Commander in Chief during World War II; and a statesman.”
Get with the program. Heh heh…greatest president of the century. Yep. As opposed to Dubya, the worst president in history.
And this is no revisionism, it is all there if you really look.
I know Michael, that what’s makes Steve so entertaining. He’s acting like we invented an alternate history of the New Deal 5 minutes ago, but my US history professor (no conservative) was teaching it back in the ’70′s.
It’s like someone getting outraged because you told him that if you jump into a 10 ft. swimming pool and can’t swim you stand a good chance of drowning.
“Well, I never heard that! You just made that up! My public school teacher told me different!”
Thanks, Steve, I needed the comic relief.
Donna, that sounds more like you. The vast majority of historians credit Roosevelt with ending the Great Depression. I didn’t make that up. Look it up. But I guess that would be to tedious for you. And it might destroy your fantasy world.
Where was your US History professor teaching? Liberty University??? Was he Jerry Falwell? There have always been people, politicians, historians and others whe try to rewrite history and deny the truth. They’re called crackpots.
Don’t you believe your fellow conservative Republican Newt???? He obviously loved Roosevelt. Get with the program!
“But at least they didn’t have a deficit in the TRILLIONS of dollars.”
Roosevelt and the liberal Democrats were far bigger borrowers than Bush & co. The debt/GDP ratio under Roosevelt rose from around 50% to around 120%. Under Bush it’s at roughly 65-70%, which is about where it was at its highest under Bill Clinton, and not that much higher than when Clinton left office.
On this score, and every other score, Bush is a far better president than Roosevelt. A far better person too. You don’t see George Bush putting two year old American kids in concentration camps or firebombing Tokyo.
“Newt Gingrich calls F.D.R. the greatest President of the century.”
Then, Newt Gingrich has lost his mind. Roosevelt was the WORST U.S. president ever. Bar none.
The only thing Roosevelt and his crew excelled at was slaughtering people and putting innocent Americans in concentration camps. By that measure, Roosevelt was an excellent president. The best ever.
Nah, Steve, University of Wisconsin.
Well, if you think that, then you must thing U.S. Grant was a terrrible president too, since he killed so many southerners. But if you think George Bush was a good president and a good person, tell that to the thousands of children he killed in Iraq as “collateral damage”. Man you got a twisted brain there…
Oh, and Time Magazine – oh, there’s a great intellectual source. Man, between wikipedia and Time Magazine, how can you miss?
Stevie, stevie, read some books,…,
Dave Surls: I wouldn’t rate FDR as low as you did. That said, even my father, a lifelong Democrat of Eastern European descent who cast his first vote for FDR in ’44, used to say, “He sold Eastern Europe down the river at Yalta.”
Donna, you need to read some books instead of frequenting crackpot websites. All the history books agree with what I’ve been saying, but you stick you’re head in the sand in denial. Read what historians have written, not rabid conservative crackpots.
Conservatism = Mental illness.
“But if you think George Bush was a good president and a good person, tell that to the thousands of children he killed in Iraq as “collateral damage”.”
If that’s the measure, then Roosevelt is far worse than Bush. If you think more kids have been killed by American forces in Afghanistan and Iraq than were killed in WWII, then you’re totally insane.
“Well, if you think that, then you must thing U.S. Grant was a terrrible president too, since he killed so many southerners.”
Grant wasn’t the president then.
“Dave Surls: I wouldn’t rate FDR as low as you did.”
He was a freaking disaster. No one else is even close to being as bad as he was.
Steve,
What is your purpose here? You argue, but most of your arguments are mere statements with a few insults thrown in.
Are you trying to “unleash the inner beast”? If so, you really should head over to the Kos. If you are trying to rub people’s noses in your superiority, I’m sorry but it seems to be harder to discover than you’d like.
Are you trying to convert us? Your methods make that unlikely.
I’m going to be calm and civil and simply ask you to either leave, or stay quietly.
“All the history books agree with what I’ve been saying”
LOL! Steve, you can’t even name one. You keep citing “historians” – but you don’t know any. Wiki and Time Magazine are your “historians.”
Now google quickly, Steve, and pull up a few names of historians you’ve never read.
Ah, yes, Stevie, books are good. You should try reading a few, especially if you’re going to argue with people who disagree with you and have read a few books on the topic. This isn’t Kos, where you can just toss out “HitlerBushChimpyMcSameRepukesfascists” and everyone nods and says you’re brilliant.
Steve: You must certainly be very well read, if you can state categorically that ALL the history books agree with you.
Conservatism = Mental illness? At least that indicates there’s a chance for recovery. That’s better news than the equation “Liberalism = Lack of Cognitive Mental Process” would indicate. Why are you being so mean spirited? Why not be out celebrating in the streets, safe and secure in the knowledge that mental giants like Matt Damon and Madonna are agreeing with everything you espouse.
The great FDR recovery you are referring to was so stupendous that in 1938 (the height of the FDR plan) both GDP and investment fell, triggering a recession within the depression. Net exports were the prime mover back to statistical full employment, which is the key target metric when coming out of a recession/depression. The net exports were in large majority war goods being shipped to Allies in Europe. The rise in GDP did not come from consumer purchases, which would have indicated a domestic recovery. After our entry into the war, and the concurrent upswing in employment and wages earned, people were still not buying at levels needed to sustain GDP, because there was not much available to buy. Only after the war ended were we on the road to a self-sufficient recovery.
“17. RE:
…And with Rahm Emmnauel as chief of staff, Rachel is quite correct to fear thug tactics. That is a very strong indicator. There are already Democrats considering seizing our 401K plans. It is cause for alarm.”
Well they aren’t getting MY 401K! Republican fiscal policy has already destroyed it.
Well they aren’t getting MY 401K! Republican fiscal policy has already destroyed it.
Well, to put a fine point on it, it’s been Republican-lite and Democratic policy. (see: Fannie Mae, Freddie Mae, Frank, Barney)
But I like people’s reasoning. Government screwed up the economy -so let’s have lots more government, that’ll make it all better!
It’s like swallowing battery acid in order to cure a touch of food poisoning.
“The great FDR recovery you are referring to was so stupendous that in 1938 (the height of the FDR plan) both GDP and investment fell, triggering a recession within the depression.”
Yeah, but you have to give the Democrats credit for reducing unemployment by drafting 16,000,000 people into the armed forces during WWII.
Nothing like a little involuntary servitude to keep those unemployment rates down.
“Please people, don’t descend into Obama Derangement Syndrome. Our country has suffered enough with the divisions and rancor of the past 8 years ”
What a load of codswallop.
The divisions and the rancor are due 100% to the MoveON.org moonbats ranting and raving against the President 24/7 and smearing and lying about him, not caring that America was made weaker, and our military was hurt by their outrages … and *now* we here this cr*ppy ‘our country has suffered enough’.
Great, go send your missives to Cindy Sheehan, Ted Kennedy, Charlie Schumer, Pelosi, Ried, Durbin, Murtha and the other partisan hacks who were to blame.
in the meantime, I’d appreciate you not treding on my first amendment rights to speak out against the anti-freedom agenda of Obama and the Democrats. My patriotism REQUIRES it.
BTW. Before the Pelosi Congress took over, my networth and income was higher than ever, I was high on the hog. than when Pelosi took over, it dropped and the Democrat Congress’ threats to raise taxes and harm business and no-drilling hurt us. and after Obama won the stock market dropped 10% in 2 days – A STUNNING ENDORSEMENT OF HIS ECONOMIC AGENDA, EH???
DEMOCRATS WILL MAKE YOU POORER.
The hell with Christ. America bedamned. Victory to the glorious jihad!
“I guess Steve missed the study released from UCLA in the last couple weeks that showed that FDR’s policies extended the Great Depression by 7 years.”
The important thing is that the great depression was fostered by 3 things – high tariffs, high taxes, and deflationary monetary policy.
And since FDR never fixed the real causes, he never really cured anything. He applied New Deal snake oil that did absolutely nothing to help the economy but act as snake oil to give the impression that ‘something’ was being done. Alleviate symptoms not the disease.
Our economy really only came back after WWII and the post-war GOP Congress relaxed some of the New Deal legislation and laws.
Japan went through a similar experience in the 1990s. They tried Keynesianism. It failed. Japan had a ‘lost decade’ of zero growth.
Obama and the Democrats will do a similar thing now. Their policies will create a sluggish economy, they will solve absolutely nothing. However, since the result of their failed policies will make people poorer, the economic insecurity will ironically lead to political success, as more people desire/demand a handout to alleviate their condition.
Only a clear and bold market-oriented New Conservative Ecnomic Agenda will take us out of the wilderness.
“FDR was a great war President but his domestic policies were a disaster.”
Actually he was a lousy war President in many ways, but lets deal with one phony liberal rewrite of history at a time.
“Donna V. – Yes, of course I’m a product of our public educations system. But I guess you think it’s all lies and a liberal conspiracy. Ha ha ha, yeah right. It’s funny, when I was in school they taught us that FDR pulled us out of the Great Depression”
They taught you wrong. FDR’s New Deal was a failure.
I read Henry Steele Commager for my high school history. Only later I found out that he was a liberal, and most of the history books are written from that perspective. American history is the polemic of the liberal.
“Patriot’s Guide to American History” is a fine exception.
They taught me the Bohr model of the atom in high school. Crapola… I got really peeved about it when I learned the truth in my college Modern Physics course!
And Cheesehead, I agree with much of what you say regarding the proper approach for the GOP in the future. “Paul Ryan, Bobby Jindal, Tim Pawlenty, Charlie Christ those are you ways back to respectfullness. Not Coulter and Rush.” Coulter and Rush are for entertainment purposes only.”
UH, since when did Rush run for office??? I missed that. And if Rush was so bad for the GOP, how the heck did we manage to get the GOP Congress in 1994 and Bush in 2000 and 2004, while he was doing his show?
The people who bash Rush are brain-dead liberals who are so narrow-minded that they fear differences of opinions and conservative voices.
Rush and Coulter are no more extreme on the right than Krugman, New York Times, Olberman and Maddow on the left.
So Democrats: The first thing you MUST do now is jettison NYTimes, Olberman, Maddow, Moveon.org and dKOS. they are not your ways back to respectfulness. Drop the leftwing extremists. oh, and if you appoint Rahm, its war.
I see a lot of parallels with where we are now.”
You are so correct. In the middle of 1932, Hoover raised taxes. Whatever popularity he had was gone. Lost in a landslide.
Why raising taxes? The foolish belief that they needed to balance the budget. but combined with tight money, it was choking the natural economy.
FDR never reversed.
Now, we have a ‘bailouts without end’ policy. $1 TRILLION in bailouts and counting. Started under Pelosi/Reid/Bush and continuing under Pelosi/Reid/Obama.
Obama’s news conference speech tonight. Why am I not surprised at the public works project?
“The No. 1 priority, Obama said, is to get Congress to approve an economic stimulus plan that would extend jobless benefits, send food aid to the poor, dispatch Medicaid funds to states and spend tens of billions of dollars on public works projects. If the plan is not approved this month, in a special session of Congress, Obama said that “it will be the first thing I get done as president of the United States.”

We may not win again but we can go down fighting.
http://www.reaganaction.com/
It is good to see that the USA now gets a president, who knows what society is about. And it is good that he has already achived a renewed trust in America from its Western allies. After 8 years better forgotten, the wheels of future rolls again.
This isn’t a dialogue it is merely overlapping monologues. The right must defend itself, just as the left did, we’re human and self rationalizations and justifications are more important to human beings the food, sex or water. Try and go one day without them. We care more about being right in our own mind than we do about most anything else.
For about half of us the politics we espouse seems to be in our genes and we are either liberal or conservative for reasons no rationalization could make sense of. We just are and it’s not up for discussion. For the other half their politics is guided by some selfish need (that’s not a bad thing) that one side or the other fulfills.
Fighting with us inbred liberals or conservatives will get you no where. We know our position, it’s not up for debate and we vote our conviction. It’s only the remaining half that battles their own internal anxieties to choose their candidate. They are rarely persuaded by the extreme, for them its different strokes for different folks. That’s what campaigning for office provides them.
We are bemused bystanders at the end. Left only with our justifications and rationalizations and little understanding.
yea,#218. The rest of the world voted right wing and threw out the leftists while we voted for freebies to those who do not work given from those who do. How long does anyone believe this will last. The stock market is already selling off to avoid the higher taxes under Obama, over an 800 point drop since the election results, while gun sales are at record levels. If this had happened when Bush was elected it would have been the end of the world. Now, it is nothing according to the media and lefties.
We have heard constantly in this election cycle about 4 more years of Bush. No one ever mentions that the Dems under Clinton dismantled our intelligence gathering capabilities to the point that Bush and the Dems actually believed, based on faulty intelligence, that Saddam had weapons of mass destruction. They had to seriously accept the information given to them to protect this country after 9-11. The Dems politicized this war with our soldiers in the balance for their own political advantage. They demonized the position that many of them took themselves. Biden voted for the war and had the same intelligence that Bush had to a degree. The MSM will never hold these hypocrites to their own statements or positions. The left will say and do anything to stay in power. They have a miserable bunch of entitlement peons continually dependent on them to take care of them. I do not need the government to take car of me. Just give me the opportunity to do it myself. They will promise or say anything to get elected. They have no real love for this country but only for their own egotistical lust for power. Yes, I question their patriotism! God give us a man that has the character, wisdom, and grit to stand up for this great country again. At least the Clintons are gone. It would be great if the air heads Pelosi and Reid werre gone too. This country is about to be jerked back to the right by the actions of these dimwits.
The right-o-sphere copes with “defeat” ?
Rather, the non-obamaosphere, copes with the fact that publick eddukashun in America has prepared the ground for enough decades now that the stupid outweigh the not so stupid.
Or copes with the fact that “the media” were in the tank. (some now admitting to the complete bias they held during the very long 2 year campaign)
We were founded by noble men and will be administered, for awhile, by, possibly, ignoble men (and women).
I just want to say what a pleasure it is to read
these conservative websites and comments now. Top notch entertainment. I really appreciate this site and all the deep and insiteful postings here. Keep up the good work. I can barely stop laughing. Thanx
You Obamatrons are making fools out of yourselves.
Go celebrate. Play with your kids. Invite friends over.
Head over to the local Holiday Inn with the big bright sign that says, “WELCOME IDIOTS”. Celebrate your pitiable pyrric victory till the cows come home. Or your wives. Whichever comes first.
But arguing here on PJM. What are you thinking? What are you afraid of? Biden was right when he said the Presidency is no place for on the job training. “Obama’s a clean guy, Biden said, “but he’ll learn by mistakes and Iran and Russia will clean Obama’s clock.”
Listen to Vice President Joe Biden. He speaks from experience about the inexperienced.
What I’m trying to get across is that the election is over and you Democrats put Obama in office. You made him commander and chief.
Why are you here? Are you trying to convince yourselves that you didn’t make a mistake? Well, we’ll tell you that you did. You made an error in judgment. A lalapalooza. A whopper.
But one that can be rectified. In time.
In the meantime, why argue here on PJM? Celebrate with your friends. If McCain won, I wouldn’t be jawing with Obama supporters on Moveon.org. I’d be out celebrating with my patriotic friends. With true Americans.
So go. Write Obama a letter. Tell him how happy you are he won. But hanging around here just makes you Democrats look like losers. Which you’re not. Are you?
Arguing is fun, do you really only want to listen to voices you agree with?
The left always revere and worship their leaders and we’ve never seen this to a greater degree than with Obama. That’s why they can’t stand to hear any dissent, even now when they have won everything. They won’t be satisfied until we all say we were wrong and that he’s the greatest President in history.
For the sake of our country, I sincerely hope that he does turn out to be great, but based on his scanty record and stated intentions I don’t see that ever happening. Meanwhile, the left will be unable to enjoy their victory because they’ll be so disturbed by our failure to bow down to their Messiah.
FAIRNESS DOCTRINE: A FOOLS FANTASY
How and why the Democrat pursuit of talk radio will blow up in their faces:

There is so much talk about the right, but wait until the left-wing illuminati mess things up, people will beg for the GOP.
Right-Wing nuts i fell your pain. hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaahaha
OBAMA 2012
