On Friday morning, the House approved a continuing resolution that would fund the government through mid-December while defunding Obamacare.

The measure now moves on to the Senate, where Democrats are already working on language to strip Obamacare defunding from the bill.

If the Senate passes the CR without defunding Obamacare, a period of intense negotiations is expected within the House, which will insist that defunding remain in the bill. At stake: a government shutdown on October 1 if no agreement is reached.

Some Republicans believe the effort to defund Obamacare is doomed to failure and that any subsequent government shutdown will be blamed on them. Other GOP members believe that, regardless of the odds, the attempt to defund Obamacare must be made even at the risk of shutting down the government.

You’ve heard from the experts and politicians. Now it’s your turn. Will Republicans be successful in defunding Obamacare? Leave your thoughts in the comments. If you haven’t registered to comment yet, please take a few seconds to do so.

The GOP must defund Obamacare. What, pray tell, would be the purpose of the Republican Party's existence if they don't get this done?

The only way to find out is to push. Wimping out will settle nothing.

Is this an open book test?

The conclusion is so foregone, it defies credulity to even contemplate any other outcome.

Obamacare, The Global Warming Hoax, Fast and Furious, Benghazi....the GOP can't win LAYDOWN issues....where ALL the facts are on their side.

They play the stumbling stooges...watch a scandal unfold, Americans being Constitutionally brutalized...and they stumble, fumble, mumble...and then...get BLAMED. It's a bad sitcom.

The only thing the circular firing squad can do is pick on each other....and then pick off each other.

Obamacare is a government abuse, it doesn't work, it costs a fortune, it doesn't accomplish any of its stated goals...and the Republicans have a built in popular vote lead against it...and can't get on the field.

(Global Warming is such a hoax, governments are asking that the truth be kept out of the upcoming report)

Sorry, guys. Ask a tougher question. Of course the Republicans will screw the pooch on this...right before Obama cooks it and eat it for lunch...along with all the GOP's relevance.

No they won't. And why do you ask?
Simply because there are to many @$$hole$ in the DNC that support and kiss to much DNC @$$.
Besides there are not enough Republicans with a pair of balls or the back bone to stand up to these people.
I may not have been a Republican all my life like some have but I can tell you this, and don't tell me to leave if I don't like it, if my grandfather were to be alive he would be cussing out everyone and tell you the same thing that I am going to.....I AM ASHAMED TO BE CALLED A REPUBLICAN.
My family have been Republicans since 1861 that is a long time to be something.
When I see the speaker of the house one time kissing Obama's @$$ and the next time cussing him out then back to kissing then back to cussing that tells me one thing...he is a spine less jellyfish with one intended purpose HIMSELF.
When you have a president that comes outright and literally shoves things down your throat like Obamacare, violates your religious right, take from you what the constitution guarantees you can have.....ALL THAT MY FRIENDS TELL ME WE HAVE A DICTATOR IN THE WHITE HOUSE....AND A BALL LESS WONDER IN THE HOUSE THAT WILL ALLOW ANYONE TO BULLY HIM INTO SUBMISSION.
Hell, I think I will join the Tea Party at lest there as small as it is people have the stones to stand up for the people even those that don't deserve standing up for.

Supposedly many conservatives just sat out the last election for president and did not vote. Obama's election and the health care bill are what happened. The US has lost status ion the world. Our country does not keep its word. Young people, handicapped by political agreements, are sent to die or be gravely wounded in countries whose inhabitants want to kill all of us. We don't have enough votes to cancel Obamacare. Be realistic. The Tea Party must choose candidates which can be elected. A vote is the most important thing right now.

I cannot understand how the GOP can be so stupid. Their PR department is out of the dark ages. The Tea Party supports candidates who can't win so all their good finabcial ideas will never succeed. It is truly a party of middle aged and old white people but the alternative, the Democrat party, is becoming more and more socialistic and is not a viable alternative. There should be another choice.

Who cares if Republicans get blamed. Blame is the only game the other side plays. Lets get started and reverse this thing any way possible. Forget the political fall out and start doing something

Nothing could be more important to our economy than killing Obamacare. If Republicans can't prevail in this 'negotiation' or if they allow Democrat balme to go unanswered it's already over for them. We don't need a "democrat lite" party and we surely don't need a party scared into paralysis of being called names by the other. I don't believe anyone would much notice a government shutdown ordinarily but Obama is stubborn, stupid, and an irresponsible radical ideologue: He'll stamp his foot and make it hurt as many people as possible as much as possible just as he did with the sequester. If the people do blame and voting out Republicans it simply shows Republicans lost credibility and relevance milking the 'old boy' system long after Democrats moved on. Maybe it is time for a real libertarian party or maybe it's over and Democrats have won in their quest to dismantle capitalism, christianity, individual freedom, individual responsibility, common decency, common sense and the only successful constitutional republic in world history.

This question should have two parts:
1) Can they?
2) Will they?
Yes, it can be done. But it will be an uphill battle against McCain, Boehner, and the rest of the Big-Gov Statist RINOs.

It's difficult to win a battle if you can't even decide what side you're on.

The Republican Party -- mostly donkeys in elephant suits -- haven't a prayer against a foe of liberty as determined as the current practice of collectivism in our federal government. Republicans have always felt they were on the outside looking in, given a 40-year monopoly of power by Democrats, and now all they can do is play along or lose their place.

As is so often the case in government politics, the nation and its peoples are far less important to these operators than their overpaid 'jobs' in the Party.

There's no need to defund Obamacare - just pass CR's that specifically ONLY fund the military and other necessary services....

Will it win? You tell us. But they damn well better try, or there are going to be a lot of French Republicans going down next year. Seriously. I don't know what the biggest laughingstock is: America's international standing under President Empty-Suit, or the Republican caucus under McConnell and Boehner.

Why is this so hard? the majority does not want anything to do with Obamacare and yet the representatives of the people can't find the nads to stand up to a self serviant leader who doesn't give a darn about what the people want. His agenda will distroy us. We have to get rid of this guy and his parrots
