Hot Topic: Should Obama Be Impeached if He Attacks Syria without Congressional Authorization?

As of noon on September 6, the House whip count on the vote to authorize military force against Syria stands at 223 “no” votes or “leaning no.” Seventy-two Democrats are included in that number. Only 25 members have indicated that they will vote “yes.”

Unless there is a shocking turnaround, it seems certain that the war resolution will fail. If that happens, what will President Obama do?

He said in his speech announcing that he was taking the issue to Congress that he could have gone ahead with the attack without congressional authorization. Some in the media are urging him to attack President Assad even without the approval of Congress. If he does that, some Republicans, joined by a few Democrats, will almost certainly call for impeachment hearings to begin in the House.

We’ve heard from them. Now it’s your turn to be heard. Should the president be impeached if he attacks Syria without congressional authorization?

Don't you people get it? When the constitution states that presidents cannot bypass the congress for a call to arms, that means that the president under no circumstances other that immediate threat can the president bypass a congressional vote. We the people are the ones who directly elect our congressman and to bypass them is to bypass the people. The reason we see president after president do the same thing over and over again is because "we the people" fail to hold our politicians accountable for their treasonous actions. The NSA is an offence in an of itself for impeachment. Just because the president can't keep his dam mouth shut and has a slip of the tongue he is trying to salvage his presidency with what ever support he can muster up. Yes president Obama should be impeached if he bypasses the congressional vote and it's a shame that Americans think otherwise.

I like your scenario, but its success depends 100% on something we don't have: a rational, well informed electorate that cares about facts and principles.

Sadly enough, if we had enough voters willing to impeach President Obama we would never have had a President Obama in the first place.

The question is moot for two reasons.

First, Obama should already have been impeached. Throw a dart at a list of his scandals and you'll hit something that would land a normal American in jail for the rest of his life, if those don't qualify as "high crimes and misdemeanors" then the term has no meaning.

Second, and more important, the Democrat controlled Senate would never, ever convict. Obama could rape and murder a dozen orphans on live TV then hold a press conference admitting to it and Harry Reid's party-over-all Senate would give him a pass.

Obama's end game is to start a war he has no intentions of winning.

The Left has been trying to drag this country down for decades, what better way to do it than through this war ?

He gets the military that he doesn't trust out of the country, maybe even abandoning them. While Federal law enforcement agencies that are riddled with Progressives clamp down on domestic dissent with the support of black and hispanic mobs.

If we go to war, it will be to advance Obama's domestic agenda.

What will the thug do if Congress turns him down? He'll insinuate racism at work and Christine Matthews will get the ball rolling.

Obama should be impeached but not for acting in Syria without authorization.

Yes, he should be impeached. But, since we didn't hold him to task for the fake draft card, birth certificate, etc. ... The people were hugely against TARP, but our dear leaders rammed it down our throats anyway. Similarly Obamacare...
So, how can we now hold him to a new standard?

Yes. The president should be impeached if he acts without the approval of congress. The senate won't punish him, but the congressional record will document his "high crimes and misdemeanors" for all to see. The impeachment process should also include all hc&m's that can be documented for Benghazi, the IRS and NSA scandals and everything else he and his administration have lied about to congress and the American people. The House should send the impeachment to the senate to chew on and if they don't act to punish him the House should do it again. The president is a documented liar and will continue to lie so the charges will be easy to document a second and third time. He is a disgrace to America and doesn't deserve to get off the hook. If we don't act to impeach we are almost as bad as he is.

If enough Democrats in the Senate decide he should go, he'll go, probably just resign, as Nixon did. It would be foolish for the House to impeach unless a strong Senate majority is for it.

" probably just resign"

lol.

He'd declare martial law and start openly killing dissenters before resigning.
