Holder Found in Contempt After Dems Walk Out of Vote
Issa confronted members who said that the vote was about anything but the “very narrow contempt” resolution that focused on obtaining withheld documents in Operation Fast and Furious.
“We’ve seen no evidence that the White House had anything to do with gun-walking operations,” Cummings said, wryly noting that Republicans were “finally going to get the prize they have been seeking for over a year.”
Issa, who propped a large photo of slain Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry behind his podium toward the end of the debate, said the resolution wasn’t about a witch hunt, but getting to the bottom of Fast and Furious — “no ifs, no ands, no buts.”
Rep. John Dingell (D-Mich.), who represents the district in which the Terry family lives, said he “didn’t roll off the cabbage wagon yesterday” and moved to refer the contempt resolution back to the Oversight panel for additional public hearings “so that this investigation can focus on the real issues at hand.”
“My constituent Brian Terry wants the truth from the grave,” Dingell said.
In response, Issa read from a Terry family statement that said Dingell doesn’t represent them in this case, and has never spoken to the family even after their unanswered attempt to get help from Dingell’s staff.
“My office is setting up a meeting with the Terry family as soon as I get back to Michigan,” Dingell said.
The House defeated Dingell’s motion to refer 172-251.
As the lower chamber then moved to the contempt resolution itself, a stream of Democrats, including Pelosi and Hoyer, filed down the center aisle and out the door.
“In their pursuit of power they’ve lost all sense of principle,” Rep. Chaka Fattah (D-Pa.) said of Republicans, adding that the vote could find Congress with its historically low approval ratings “held in even more contempt than it is now.”
“This should be labeled ‘fast and foolish’ or maybe ‘fast and fake,’” said Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.).
“This isn’t about politics; it’s about the constitution,” said Rep. James Sensenbrenner (R-Wis.).
Holder gave a statement quickly after the vote, chiding some Republicans for concocting “truly absurd — truly absurd — conspiracy theories.”
“Today’s vote may make for good political theater,” he said, but was a “crass effort and grave disservice to the American people.”
“As a result of the action taken today by the House, an unnecessary court conflict will ensue,” Holder said. “My efforts to resolve this matter short of such a battle were rebuffed by Congressman Issa and his supporters. It’s clear that they were not interested in bringing an end to this dispute or obtaining the information they claimed to seek. Ultimately, their goal was the vote that – with the help of special interests – they now have engineered.”

Small consolation. Though it just shows how childish the Democrats are anymore.
Sooooo…. What happens now…. Obama still has the documents…..
Until he shreds them. Or tells Holder to.
Until he shreds them LOL HAHAHA I remember politicians asking a certain Oliver North why he shredded documents, to which he replied, “why did you give me a document shredder” HAHAHAH A classic. OH! BTW, this means nothing to anyone and nothing will happen to anyone, Obama will be re-elected, we taxpaying Whites will be forced to pay for EVERYONES’ medical care and their RIMS, their EBT, their CASH, their CHURREN! and their CHURRENS’ CHURREN! the ISLAMIC TAKEOVER OF AMERICA, fund the muslims in Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunis, Syria, Saudi, Michigan, N.J. etc. etc. ARM UP White people, I seriously believe the stuff is going to hit the fan.
So I guess no one here reads Fortune?
Huh.
I read the Fortune article, Lefty. Everyone should!
(gets popcorn) This should be interesting.
get the giant size.. I wanta watch ’til the backfire, lol.
Should have locked the doors, suspended the rules and expelled all the Dems that left.
Let Roberts find a tax in that.
“Should have locked the doors…”
That’s what Lenin did after the democratically elected Duma (parliament) met for the very first time. (A democratic election had been scheduled before Lenin seized power in November 1917 and Lenin allowed the election to go ahead after his coup. His Bolsheviks only got 25% of the vote though so he wasn’t very happy about the result. He let them meeting exactly once, then had his minions persuade the representatives to go home after their first session went late into the night. The next day, when the representatives returned to resume deliberations, they found the door locked. That was the last democratic election in Russia until Gorbachev’s day….
Do you really want to find yourself in the same company as Lenin?
The only problem with your analogy is that WE’RE the guys who are getting locked out now!
Those guys should have broken down the doors to get in, then, and so should we, now!
Too late, we are already there with the black socialist muslim and he is going to prove to be worse if he is re-elected and plenty of dead folk are just waiting to vote.
The black Left turning this into a racial issue where none exists on top of the Trayvon Martin case shows that the racism we thought we’d dealt with a half century ago in the seat of gov’t has only switched colors. I’m particularly sad to see an Asian group allow themselves to be allied with such racist organizations. One more occupant for America’s new tenement, the Tower Of Racial Lobbying Babel. The Immigration Act and the subsequent nearly mindless devotion to diversity and multiculturalism has not made America better, but worse, and it’s going to continue to get worse. It’s even so bad they side with illegal immigration and skin over law and order, right and wrong.
These racial groups have no interest whatsoever in right or wrong but merely side with skin. No wonder they represent cultures that have no interest in or ability to create a Bill of Rights. And they beg the question: why shouldn’t I do the same? I was with them at the start of this fight but I never signed on for a mere change of landlords. I bitterly oppose this movement that blames all the ills of the world on whites and purposefully and conspicuously lies about racism just to make their own debauched cultures and lack of principles look better than they are.
Sadly, you are correct. As a nation and as a people, we are regressing back into tribes, if only for self-preservation. We’ve no choice. We must defend ourselves against those who choose skin color over right and wrong. Trying to hold it together, the whites will be the last group to go “tribal”. But go tribal they will.
Unless there is a sea change against political correctness that blinds so many people’s perceptions, I unfortunately agree.
This is the sad result of a history where slavery, lynchings and Jim Crow is spread all over America willy-nilly without regard to context, proportion and who was involved when and where. It enables all whites to be brushed with a wide stroke, as if I had any connection to dead people anyway.
Where was Jim Crow in MN, or slavery? How about Wisc., Oregon? People claim America was built on slavery and young politically correct libs eat it up. Then, bewilderingly, while connecting me by skin to imaginary events while my great great grandfather was in frickin’ Prussia somewhere, making the same connection, not even by skin so much as by culture, to gang violence and black crime means I’m profiling.
The hypocrisy of liberals seems to be boundless and at the edge of madness nowadays. People like Frederica Wilson and Sheila Jackson Lee aren’t just only almost vicious racists, they are brutally stupid people, and apparently an entire generation of young white liberals also think goose/gander the impenetrable Gordian Knot.
Given the racial make-up of the most dangerous cities in America, and the historic population losses of St. Louis and Detroit, where the city is 9% white now, I do see a historic tribalism that may creep in.
This time we may see a new phenomenon: not urban segregation but regional segregation. If illegal and legal immigration together with political correctness continue to run unchecked, and with the crime and failure that accompanies it, in the coming decades you may see an analogy to the old North and South where swaths or enclaves in the Northwest begin to attract people and states begin to be much more assertive about their rights.
Places like Texas and So. Calif. are already history, they just don’t know it. I wouldn’t be surprised if Calif. someday splits in two. Given the trend for racial voting, those places will see white flight in the coming decades and people will learn exactly what exceptionalism is how what they thought was a fantasy is in fact something they not only cannot live without, but is something they are addicted to.
But the time is coming when they may not be allowed to follow. Not now, not today, but in fifty years, 100 years. And the Dem Party and their sad addiction to identity politics, diversity, multiculturalism, and mindless political correctness will have only themselves to blame.
A half century after the civil right era was won, it has been lost by people who overreached rather than simply being happy to join the party.
“the whites will be the last group to go “tribal”. But go tribal they will.”
And finally forced into that, the Saxon will truly begin to hate and it will get VERY UGLY from then on as no one is as good at genocide as we Saxons!
That’s BS! I can think of a whole lot of groups who are a helluva lot better at genocide than Anglo-Saxons. Are you nutz?
Communism always causes the people to regress back into tribal groups. It is called survival. Communism has never worked on any level beyond small tribes. This is because, for it to work, the collectivist group must be small enough that every member clearly knows what every other member’s responsibilities are. Humans are only capable of this kind of intimacy in groups of 15-30 other people. Communism is a failed social order from before the dark ages, and was essentially the cause of the dark ages. We won’t repeat that sad chapter in human history because of existing technology, but we will definitely be regressing to tribalism if we continue our stupid pursuit of socialism. Bank on it. Poverty and bread lines are already on the proverbial horizon. ABO2012
Thank you, Fail Burton, for saying that so clearly-tersely.
If you treat a man like a dog long enough, don’t be surprised if he starts barking. The Dem Party and particularly the black Left should be careful what they wish for, because frankly, when it comes to issues of race, they’re not making any friends and people should start wondering what came first, the chicken or the egg.
When you have a political group that doesn’t contain one single mainstream race-based artifact by way of law, a group or even a website, and it is continually accused of racism by a group with one brain cell that voted for Obama to the tune of 96%, it’s time to stop arguing, say enough, and respond in kind.
So, clearly this is promoting racial division, but WHY… surely that’s not how he got elected in 2008, since the numbers would not support this racial divide, especially since his song then was racial peace.. SO WHAT IS HE PURSUING…?
WHITTLE thinks that it’s the gun control idea, but even if that’s it, then why gun control AND racial division…?
I would point out that the other racial walk-outs may have other grievances than Trayvon, such as the current dispute at the UN over American vaccines that are pushed on 3rd world populations DO HAVE TOXINS IN THEM THAT ARE FORBIDDEN INSIDE THE U.S…. so some overseas, educated and online, are angry about the imposition of such harming to their countrymen, since that list matches the walk-outs WHICH WOULD TIE WITH THE PACIFIC WALK-OUTS…
I just don’t understand the Central Americans walking out when those 300 dead victims were MX, unless they haven’t registered Whittle’s analysis that dead people in MX were needed to justify Holder/Obama’s lies that guns there were U.S.. origin… TTYL and spread Whittle:

We need answers
Fail Burton, did I read you correctly? “No wonder they represent cultures that have no interest in or ability to create a Bill of Rights.” Would like to elaborate on that?
Well, ask yourself what cultures, both within and without the U.S. are nothing more than primitive societies living with a thin smear of something they had no part in spread over the top.
The most polarizing president in U.S. history has again scored a victory in dividing the house, the parties, and the populace. The fundamental transformation is about tearing apart the fabric of American society.
But only as a means to eventually making criminal all dissent of the leftist regime.
Or maybe, all dissent.. and the plan is to make his move before November..?
Holder has some responsibility for that too.
I’ve followed this for some time – what burns me is that apparently you can screw up to the tune of 300+ friendly foreign nationals and 1 US Agent and keep your job in government! It is no wonder that the government is hugely wasteful. The Republicans should craft a message of Fast & Furious, Solyndra, all the totally stupid decisions that have been made that would get even the “son of the owner” terminated in the real world. Point out the the dumkopfs that keep their cushy govn’t jobs and get to keep on making stupid decisions. My stomach hurts with the thought that they will be moving to HHS after today’s ruling.
Let me rephrase that for you, Mr. Holder: It is clear that the House is not interested in burying this travesty in order to protect you and your boss.
I have never despised a political party as much as I do now.
I wish Michigan voters, at least, would vote Dingell out of office for his lie, purporting to speak for Brian Terry–and congratulations to Boehner for revealing the lie so aptly.
Good luck with that! The Dingells, Pelosi’s, Franks, et al, of this world represent the bought and paid for government dependents and/or looney left ideologues. Their seats are safer than Robert Byrd’s was under Jim Crow. They can do anything except work for the good of the country and be elected ’til hell freezes over.
MCO: Two agents. Don’t forget Jaime Zapata of ICE. He was killed by Mexican criminals in Mexico with one of the Fast and Furious guns.
Thank you for remembering him
“I believe that the political motivations behind this resolution are clear and pose a clear and present danger to this nation,”???
What exactly is Hoyer advocating? A coup? This sort of grandstanding goes beyond the ridiculousness we have come to expect from partisan politics – this is dangerous.
People, we need to find some adults to run this government. Here is a novel concept… disagree with the motion on the floor? Vote no! Everyone who walked out on that vote should lose their jobs, because they are not doing them!
I thought the Bunghole General specialized in useless court proceedings!
Why would he want to stop, now?
Actually, he could stop it right now. He could comply with Congress, or resign.
It’s real, real simple. And so is he!
How special!
“My efforts to resolve this matter short of

Now if we could just follow the Constitution and give him a speedy trial. . .
We are maturing. Just because you are black doesn’t entitle you to a free pass when you screw up. The race card is becoming impotent. Long overdo.
… “It’s Eric Holder one day,” Pelosi said.
… “You don’t know who it is the next.”
An adult (sic) version of the junior high ‘OMG WE’RE ALL GONNA DIE’ screech.
Article from yesterday at CNN. How does this play with everything else?
http://features.blogs.fortune.cnn.com/2012/06/27/fast-and-furious-truth/
This CNN story seriously contradicts what I’ve heard about north-of-the-border gun sales going to Mexican drug cartels. I’ve read from more than one conservative author–most recently Ann Coulter–that American guns made up a very small portion of the weapons used by the drug cartels. I wish I could get some definitive answers.
How bout I answer that for you Jim Flimsy. I have been all over down South of the border to include the jungles of Central and South America and they use mostly AK-47s as they are cheap, as is the ammo for them and it is a very powerful weapon. Our country gave the Mexican government M4s and M16s and I have seen them carry and use them so in a sense, our gubmint is responsible for guns falling into the hands of the Cartels and the ensuing murders BUT the Mexican Army and police officers SELL THEIR GUNS TO THE CARTELS and then get a new one shortly after, sort of like a “supplemental income”
It doesn’t. Katie Pavlich has answered it at Townhall.
I can tell you this for one thing: the article contradicts John Dodson’s testimony and trashes the man himself. This is done through interviews with others and assertions by the author. And not a word of interview with Dodson. No “Mr. Dodson could not be reached for comment” or “Dodson is under a gag order” or “Dodson refused to cooperate with this article.” Nothing. The author didn’t even try.
http://townhall.com/tipsheet/katiepavlich/2012/06/27/fortune_magazine_tries_to_tell_the_truth_about_fast_and_furious_fails_miserably
Katie is excellent, here’s her analysis of Fortune’s lies, fully documenting the criminals lying
I have often seen people like Holder and his ilk pull out the race card. They regularly do so when they are confronted with unwelcome truths. They are unable to respond with careful reasoning and have nothing to substantiate their assertions. Sadly many naive people believe them.
Obama and Holder have killed hundreds of Mexicans and that’s just the count from the guns they ran that were recovered, which is probably only a very small percentage of the increasing total. They have committed a slow motion 9/11 against Mexican civilians and need to be called to account for their mass murders most foul and punished for their capital crimes.
Issa needs to send Josh Randall after Obama and Holder.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tUROZEmC1WQ&feature=related
I believe you have it right.
Question is, who thinks Romney will put more Thomases on the court?
I expect him to put up more Roberts.
There will be no consequences of this vote. The matter is referred to a prosecuting attorney who reports to Eric Holder.
In summary, the Bush era Wide Reciever was an incredible blunder. ATF agents, and others, should have been fired. They were not.
Fast and Furious resulted in crimes. US employees should be prosecuted. But they are either in DoJ and/or the White House.
This mess will not be cleaned until another set of management reviews it.
Eric Holder is either grossly incompetent, or a crook. We do not know. We know he is the AG.
“We’ve seen no evidence that the White House had anything to do with gun-walking operations,” Cummings said, wryly noting that Republicans were “finally going to get the prize they have been seeking for over a year.”
Over a year …
Remember that quote next time Cummings and his posse of stooges call this all an election year stunt. House leadership has been pursuing this since they took the reins.
“My efforts to resolve this matter short of such a battle were rebuffed by Congressman Issa and his supporters.”
He offered to brief them and give some documents if they agreed to drop the contempt charge. Who would take such a stupid deal? Had they said ok Holder would have given them some irrelevent documants and then briefed them on Operation Linebacker.
Has the Tilted Kilt opened a restaurant in Washington DC?
“I think this investigation has been extraordinarily superficial,” Hoyer said.
Apparently, fifteen months of Holder and the rest of DOJ playing the old shell game with evidence doesn’t count, according to Hoyer.
We agree on something, for once. The political motivations of the President and Attorney General, which provoked this resolution, absolutely pose a clear and present danger to this nation.
Not to mention Mexico.
clear ether
eon
Since, according to established procedure, the legislation holding Holder to be in criminal Contempt of Congress, passed by the House today, now goes to the DOJ’s Attorney for the District of Columbia for prosecution (a black Obama appointee), there will be no criminal prosecution. However, in a subsequent vote today, the House authorized Issa’s Oversight Committee to hire legal counsel, so that they could to prosecute this case in civil court, and seek a Federal judge’s order supposedly compelling Holder to comply with the Committee’s subpoena. In view of Holder’s behavior so far, good luck with that.
If Obama is re-elected such a case could—I imagine–drag on for months, maybe years.
However, say Obama is thrown out of office, what happens then? Holder is dismissed from office, Romney’s new team takes over DOJ, cleans house, and starts to get to work on his set of priorities, and this whole suit is moot? i.e. Obama & Holder get away with thumbing their noses at Congress and the American people?
Or, is Holder now subject to criminal prosecution. Or, would people want to “move on,” and for all this to just “go away?
Well, now, I guess that guy will have to weigh many options. It won’t necessarily go away. Does the US Attorney for D.C. automatically get replaced in a new administration? Are there criminal sanctions for refusal to comply with the law? Is everyone certain that the US Attorney likes Holder? Life is full of tough choices, and he will be staking a great deal on the one he makes, whichever way he chooses.
Suppose instead that Romney gives the go-ahead for a full-out investigation of Obama and his forged birth certificate, phony SSN, and admission of being Kenyan-born? With Barack out of the WH, suddenly all that documentation (Selective service, citizenship/repatriation from Indonesia, foreign student aid, State Department record of passport/travel, etc., not to mention Fast and Furious) that he had sealed can be opened as part of an ongoing criminal investigation. Imagine what can be done by finally exposing Barack as the ineligible usurper. Would Romney use his Executive Order pen to invalidate everything that Obama did, from Obamacare to Executive Orders to Executive Agreements between countries? Would Obama at last do a perp walk? Could he be locked away breaking rocks for the rest of his natural life?
I can dream, can’t I?
I’m right there along side you in dreamland.
Semper Fi
The last time a house of Congress did this was in 1934, but under the doctrine of inherent contempt, the House could have ordered its Sergeant at Arms to have arrested Eric Holder and confine him until he purged his contempt by turning over the documents.
Otherwise, the very last resort is impeachment. If Holder blocks his own prosecution, I hope the House impeaches him for that together with his being an Accessory to Murder and violations of the Arms Export Act and recommends to the Senate that it order his
Even with the Senate being majority Democratic, I don’t see that the Senate could refuse to try Holder then.
And the people claiming this is all political and done in an unseemly rush need to be told that it is the right of the American people to know what malfeasances have been done if any, and in time to use that information in time to make an informed decision on Election Day.
Now will somebody respond to my question of what are we going to do about the progressive left?
How many will join me in building a Take America Back Now organization to fight the left?
Or will you continue to complain and read your own comments.
What a sorry bunch of pansies. Even obama had the courage to vote ‘present’ when he didn’t want to go on record.
Didn’t the dems remind you of the dems in wisc? They are just children. They can’t stay there and loose, they have to walk out. I hope in Nov they all keep walking!
U.S. Department of Justice, in contempt of Congress for refusal to comply with a subpoena duly issued. http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2012/roll441.xml
When will a Democrat understand the words “did you or did you not…?”
Eric Holder the DOJ is a RACIST
Eric Holder the DOJ is a LIAR
Barry Soetero , himself a PROVEN LIAR gives the LIAR Holder his full backing.
Democratic Congresspersons and the Black Caucus are RACIST COWARDS
What is it with Democratic COWARDS rather than stay and argue their case they RUN AWAY first in Wisconsin and now in Congress.
If Barry HUSSEIN Soetero Kardashian knew nothing about F & F and did nothing about covering it up then how can it possibly be subject to “Executive Priivilege”
Pelosi said. “You don’t know who it is the next.”
As carefully formed as most of her thoughts…
Well, Nancy, the French in their day used the lamp-posts. We may yet do the same, though the sight of you with your frock over your head is enough to make even the strongest tremble.
Holder is attacking States that try to correct the problem of illegal aliens that bring crime, and costs to American tax payers, attacking States that try to keep non-Americans out of the voter booths, and helping gain stronger weapon laws through unlawful gun running, are but three examples of his contempt of the Constitution, and Congress of these United States.
AG Holder is doing a great job for the global agenda to destroy American culture. It is obovious he is but one of many flag holders to change facts on the ground to speed the creation of a North American Union under GATT as region one.
Treason against these United States would be a more correct charge.
Speaking of guns being found at the scene of these murders! Criminals I know DO NOT THROW EXPENSIVE weapons down at the scene of a murder, I mean,in Mexico atg least, WTF should they! No investigation is going to take place if they are working for the cartels, there will be no ballistics tests on the bullets, no prosecutions would take place, no search for the murderer would take place! This is clearly done in the effort to allow our own damned government to point to the weapon and say SEE! THAT WOULDN’T HAVE HAPPENED IF WE BANNED GUNS IN America!
I have felt since the vote was taken that the headline should be “Only 67 Democrats dared to support Holder” 110 walked out rather than go on record and have to go back to their district and defend their actions. Since Democrats always lie and never mean what they say they mean, the walk out should be seen more accurately and honestly as their protest AGAINST Holder (and Obama). The walk out just displays how scared they are of F&F.
It’s obvious that the Progressives/Democrats have no interest whatsoever in Justice, only power.
So. what position, exactly, would the DOJ and ultimately Holder’s employee and Obama’s appointee, the Federal DA for D.C., be in, in trying to prosecute his boss, or should I say bosses?
What, for instance, is he going to do for support in preparing such a case? Can he expect DOJ support for things like legal research and/or discovery?
Could he keep his actions and deliberations insulated from his superiors at DOJ, and which supervisors at DOJ will he be reporting to, and what will he report?
Moreover, he is both Black–in an age where Obama & Co., the Left, and Democrats have made race the touchstone and the lens through which everything is viewed, considered, and judged–and, as well, is a DA appointed by Obama. Since Obama & Co, and the Democrats have said that the effort to hold Holder in Contempt was racially motivated, how would him prosecuting Holder play out with the entire race hustling industry, and with the White House?
I can see him either just refusing to prosecute, or, taking a dive, or just very slow walking the case, so that it just never seems to come to an actual verdict, but I think it very unlikely he will actually, expeditiously, and vigorously prosecute this case.
I suggest to you that this is not the 19th or earlier centuries here in America, when our educational system, religious/moral/ethical instruction, and our society in general turned out many more people of much more conviction, grit, fortitude, and principle, people who might have been much more inclined to follow the old Roman legal adage, “Let Justice be done, though the sky fall.”
“It’s Eric Holder one day,” Pelosi said. “You don’t know who it is the next.”
Yeah bitch, maybe you, huh?
Well, I am particularly ‘impressed’ with the walk out of the Black, Hispanic and all the other balkanized so called Caucs of the House. These people are evidencing to me they are partisan, and those that are not, are ‘sheep’. Very sad. The ‘walk out’, demonstrates to me that these folks are less concerned with the business at hand, no matter your conviction as to good or bad for the contemptable AG, and more concerned at the theatrics of swaying those who are uninformed. I suspect, the uninformed make up a large part of their constituencies at home. I am at a loss to understand how these people continue to get elected. Semper Fi.
Minority Whip Steny Hoyer stated, “I believe that the political motivations behind this resolution are clear and pose a clear and present danger to this nation.”
Remember what the state’s response is to anything that poses a clear and present danger to this nation.
What … democrats walked away from their duty when they knew they would lose a vote?! How shocking!
Message to Holder,
Holder states “crass effort and grave disservice to the American people.”
Who are you to talk like you represent the American People? You don’t represent this American, you treasonous POS.
Ted G
The “Clear and Present Danger” to this country is the whole Obama Administration and the Democratic Party – un-Americans ALL!!!
a disgrace to our rule of law and all HONEST ATTORNYS’, SARGENT OF ARMS ARREST HIM. A rogue administration on the loose, I am a proud american and we are great, and not afraid to say it. 28% COMMIES 299MIL. AMERICANS, who wins?
Holder says “truly absurd”. Tell that to the hundreds (if not thousands) of Mexican families who’ve lost family members to Holder’s and the ObbieMeister’s (Zeig Hiel) plot to rid Americans of the their Right to Bear Arms!
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character. ( Martin Luther King ) Mr. Holder, show your character and not hid behind the color of your skin. By being in contempt you are showing your character.
