Hey, What Happened To That Maxine Waters Ethics Trial?
Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) was supposed to have faced trial for ethics violations last year, but the trial was suddenly delayed until after the November 2010 elections.
Waters stands accused of obtaining $12 million in TARP money for the bank OneUnited, on whose board her husband Sidney Williams once sat, and in which he owned more than $350,000 in stock. According to a story by the Washington Post in September of last year, Waters — together with Rep. Barney Frank, (D-MA) who was then the chairman of the House Financial Services Committee — changed a law and obtained the financing.
Her trial was delayed because new evidence had supposedly come to light. What that evidence is was not specified. But according to a story on SFGate.com, at least part of that evidence was an email from her grandson Mikael Moore, who is also her chief of staff:
The e-mail never mentioned OneUnited. Moore’s memo said Waters was “under the explicit impression” that provisions affecting small and minority-owned banks were still in the bailout bill …
Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass., chairman of the Financial Services Committee, said in an interview that he inserted the provision for minority banks to protect OneUnited — because it is based in his state.
He said of Waters, “We never discussed it.”
The provision sought by Waters — and inserted by Frank — told the Treasury Department that it should consider — for bailout money — banks that had an asset size of $1 billion or less, and whose size dropped to a lower range because they owned devalued preferred stock in Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
All of that is true, but the only bank that language would affect was OneUnited.
OneUnited has had its own share of trouble. As PJM reported in late September of last year, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA), the then-ranking member and current chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, sent a letter to the chairman of the FDIC demanding to know if they maintained a list of banks with connections to prominent members of Congress or the media — and if OneUnited was on the list. PJM went so far as to send a Freedom of Information Act request to FDIC demanding the list in question or proof it did not exist. The request was flatly denied. PJM then sent a second, more specific FOIA request, and to date has not received a response.

Waters will walk away from this completely unscathed because 1) she is a democrat, 2) she is black, & 3) she is a liberal. End of story.
At worst she would get a slap on the wrist like Charlie Rangel got.
hey!! you black?…cool,
you can break the law and get a little slap on the wrist in this government.
Lawyers are thieves first and politicians second. Justice and, well, law never factor into the tribal support for one’s faction. Over and over, century after century, people are disappointed or shocked that factions choose to support their own corrupt allies over law or morality. Get real. Law exists to dictate to the little people, not to indict the powerful.
Surely the committee wants to render Ms. Waters the expedient trial she requested to clear her good name?
No they don’t. And stop calling me… (no, that’s too easy)
If Maxine Waters were a average citizen, she’d be in jail right now. Just shows you that the people in Washington are not only privileged and get far better treatment than we do, but it’s almost impossible to put them in jail. And then the main stream media wonders why Americans are so bitter about Congress and why their approval ratings stink.
So this Massachusetts bank leased a beach house and Porsche for its president–in California? I wonder if the Cohees declared these perks on their 1040. If not, I’m dying to hear the bank’s business rationale for them.
Yeah, wha’happened?
My guess is the alleged ‘internecine fighting’ by the Dems on the committee is a stalling tactic. They gum up the works, the committee goes nowhere. Typical.
Forget the trial. This whacko needs to be institutionalized at an insane asylum…
Our new self appointed Supreme Court, a.k.a. Barack Obama, has decreed that Waters could not have done anything wrong. She is black and a democrat in good standing. Ask Charles Rangel if this is not so.
Nor for long….the real sheet is about to hit he fan.
The “Magic Negro” can play Motown as long as he wants….I prefer the Byrds, Turn, Turn Turn as the real answer.
It’s coming folks.
The phony “CIC”: is about to meet his real challenge….US.
this is the liberal / marxist / progressives version of democracy.
has anyone noticed that the rule of law is only being applied to conservatives? wake up and fight back people.
she deserves prison time.
General P. is sooo right. That says it all. If we don’t fight back, this is our future. How many people do you know that have no idea what is happening in this country? I know a lot of them…they are young people who are too busy with their digitized lifestyle, working people who only notice when the price of gas goes up without a clue as to why, and the elderly who are probably the most aware of that group, but not totally tuned in. The sheep are being herded into the liberal compound for a final kill to our way of life, and many stand silent and uninformed. God help us all.
11. Susan
General P. is sooo right.
Yes Susan and you are also right. Citizenry and children hooked up to electronics and ain’t got a clue. Is there anyone left in this country who has the ability to fix it? Progressiveville USA Madison WI and Daffy in Libya have occupied news for almost two weeks. Teachers in Madison WI. Does that tell you anything about teachers, NEA and Unions. The sheep are going Baa, Baa, Baa right into a slaughter house. But it will be a green movement slaughter house. Shame on you America.
Hope and Change came and went in no time at all.
OneUnited and it’s CEO
criticized for it’s lending practices
Maybe it’s the wearing of pajamas while typing that obliterates knowledge of the difference between a possessive and a contraction. Alternate garb should be considered.
Ahhh, poor lefties, can’t argue the facts and reduced to criticizing punctuation….
Another black gets a free pass. Someday….someday
many more white white collar criminals than black…. it’s the action that matters not the race
Being a Loan Officer at OneUnited would have been a cushy job in 2002 and 2003!
the House Ethics Committee, which has an equal number of members of both parties
Is that in the interest of “fairness?”
Was it divided up that way in the last Congress?
Yes, that’s the way the committee has always, so far as I know, been set up. And yes, it’s in the interests of fairness. One of the rare places where I agree anything is set up properly at the federal level these days. No one would get anything remotely resembling a fair shake were that not the case.
That being said, the most I expect to happen to Waters is a finger shaken in her face and the speaker calling her naughty.
Patrick
Are you kidding Eric Holder head of the DOJ will not do anything about the ethics charges against Walters. She is black so she gets a free pass. Remember Holder, called Americans cowards when it comes to talking about race in America. What a piece of work Obama, Holder, NAACP and the black caucus have turned out to be!
‘OneUnited Bank’ is code for, ‘Thank you so much for the reparations’!
Can ANYONE imagine ANY bank providing 1, ONE, loan only for a calendar year and not one employee, government head etc., see the courts, let alone jail time?
Even when given reparations, ‘OneUnited Bank’ (Hmph.. we all know what the ‘United’ means in their title. Quite mypoic, my brothers..) still looking out for themselves.
Pathetic.
In fairness, OneUnited made more than one loan. They only made one Community Reinvestment Act eligible loan. This remains awfully questionable for a bank which bills itself as a black owned bank and is supposedly all about minority community investment…
they must have just FORGOT, lets remind them?
They are in for power and money, not for what’s good for the people. Our country is imploding and our government is not listening. Our kids kids will have know idea what our government did to this country because it will be a third world country.
Maxine Waters and OWS Mitigate Rape
The perverse, violent act of raping a girl or woman has always and rightly been considered a vile, reprehensible crime in civilized societies.
Many Muslim nations either condone rape or place such burdensome sharia restrictions on the victim that it’s not worth the effort of reporting, but that’s another story un-related to civilized societies.
Based on her blase’ attitude toward the crime of rape, as well as toward assault and thievery, Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters could very well be a closet Muslim as could the Occupy Wall Street crowd.
You may recall the 73 year old Mad Maxine, former chairwoman of the Congressional Black Caucus and representative of California’s 35th CD. She’s the staunch defender of looters whom she believes are simply “mamas trying to buy diapers” and riot as “the voice of the unheard” and who last August told conservatives where to go when she said, “The Tea Party can go straight to hell!”
Mad Max has a way with words, a toxic way but a way. Wanting Republicans to “walk the plank” may have been metaphorical but there is no mistaking her hell suggestion nor her 2005 comments on President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney: “The President is a liar. Dick Cheney, the chief architect of the Big Lie, is not only a liar, he is a thief.”
The representative of Rodney King’s hellish district has less emphatic views on rape and other ongoing criminal activities at OWS demonstrations which she dismissed with the comment, “that’s life and it happens.”
A fierce opponent of flag-waving though not greed, Waters was named on a list of corrupt congresspeople on various occasions and cited as congressional “Porker of the Month” in June, 2009 by Citizens Against Government Waste. Not unsurprisingly and much like President Barack Hussein Obama, she is an enthusiastic supportor of all things liberal. Both back the OWSers to the hilt even if, umm, stuff happens in their midst.
And a lot of stuff is happening during those protests, including muggings, robberies, overdoses, and sexual attacks on both men and women. . . (Read more at http://www.genelalor.com/blog1/?p=6011.)
We hang petty thieves and elect the great ones to office. Nothing new here.
