Fox News investigative reporter William Lajeunesse dropped a pair of bombshells in one article Friday afternoon, revealing: the presence of a third “walked” gun at the scene of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry’s murder, an FBI cover-up of the gun, and the news that your tax dollars funded cartel weapons purchases:

Unlike the two AK-style assault weapons found at the scene, the third weapon could more easily be linked to the informant. To prevent that from happening, sources say, the third gun “disappeared.”

In addition to the emails obtained by Fox News, an audio recording from a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agent investigating the Terry case seems to confirm the existence of a third weapon. In that conversation, the agent refers to an “SKS assault rifle out of Texas” found at the Terry murder scene south of Tucson. …

The two AK-type assault rifles were purchased by Jaime Avila from the Lone Wolf Trading Co. outside of Phoenix on Jan. 16, 2010. Avila was recruited by his roommate Uriel Patino. Patino, according to sources, received $70,000 in “seed money” from the FBI informant late in 2009 to buy guns for the cartel.

Every American, regardless of political ideology, should be livid that the FBI gave at least $70,000 of “seed money” to murderous felons so that they could buy firearms. The FBI knew these weapons were destined for narco-terrorists, and that they would be used to target not just other murderous cartels but to terrorize innocents.

The third weapon recovered at the scene of Agent Terry’s murder that the FBI made “disappear” is an SKS carbine. Not an assault weapon by any practical definition, authorities claim that the official existence of the Texas-purchased rifle at the crime scene could have exposed an FBI informant.

Another plausible motive for hiding the weapon is that it would be traced to a different ATF operational sector, as an early indication that gunwalking was not limited to Operation Fast and Furious in the Phoenix Field Operations area. We now know as a matter of fact that all three federal agents shot with walked firearms had weapons walked from Texas recovered at their crime scenes. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Agents Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila were ambushed in Mexico by members of the Zetas cartel, including at least one armed with a weapon from Lancaster, Texas, the Dallas Field Operations area.

The SKS “disappeared” by the FBI from the scene of Agent Terry’s murder most likely came from Dallas, but could have come from what appears to be a second Texas-based gunwalking operation, suggested by considerable circumstantial evidence to be centered in the Houston Field Operations area.

The fact that every U.S. agent gunned down in the line of duty was fired upon with weapons recovered from apparent gunwalking operations in the Dallas and/or Houston Field Operations areas — not to mention the revelation of a domestic gunwalking operation in Indiana dubbed  “Gangwalker,” and now “Grenadewalker” — suggests a widespread program to arm violent felons.

The consequences are so predictable (ie. scandal and outrage) that a person must wonder whether that was the very purpose behind it. Why would the FBI invite public anger on itself? Let’s wait and see….

Because this scandal could potentially hurt Democrats, the media will do whatever they can to cover it up, explain it away, and/or make it sound ridiculous and unimportant. And they will rigorously attack anyone who tries to investigate it or publicize it.

They would do these things even if several American reporters (even their friends or family members) had been murdered by “walked” guns. The pathetic thing is that probably no Democrats have even asked them to do this. The media are doing it voluntarily, on their own.

      • Willdit

I agree with you completely. It would be against the MSM’s agenda for stiffer gun control to publicize the fact that the Obama Administration sold guns knowing they would be used in crimes against citizens and officers. They wanted to accuse the gun dealers to impose gun control. Fortunately they are as stupid in keeping this undercover as they are in all their other failed policies.

    • Crotalus (Don't Tread on Me)

The FBI, as well as the BATFE, never thought they would get caught. Thank God for the whistleblowers!

And, there is no way that Obama and Holder weren’t involved. Remember the promise that Obama gave the Bradys, that he was planning something under the radar? Well, this is it. And there was only one goal for this, and it wasn’t for taking down the cartels. It was to justify more, and more draconian, attacks on the Second Amendment. So, Gunwalker and the others are working exactly as planned–or would have, except for a few government workers who actually have a conscience.

This scandal will not receive the attention from the public it deserves until a prospective Republican presidential candidate makes an issue of it. The MSM is comfortable ignoring the corruption as long as it is limited to a HoR investigation that doesn’t need to be covered with the nightly news. It would be an entirely different proposition if Perry/Bachmann/Romney and company begin discussing it in press releases and debates.

    • PersonFromPorlock

Exactly right. But add Palin to the mix, it would be a dandy subject for someone with her history of fighting corruption.

      • arhooley

Back in 2008, Palin was virtually the only principle who declared in no uncertain terms that the New Black Panthers should be investigated. If I recall correctly, Alberto Gonzales could barely be reached for comment.

This is Watergate with murder. Previously, Vince Foster was a Clinton lawyer who committed suicide with a pistol composed of three different untraceable parts because Presidential lawyers always want to demonstrate their expertise in confusing the pulic when comitting suicide. The tradition continues.

    • paul_unalaska

Of all the odd deaths to occur with former WH folk through the decades/Centuries for that matter this one is the most intriguing for me.

The Kenneth Starr ‘investigation’ and ‘autopsy’ by James ‘No there were no x-rays taken this time either, promise’ Beyer leave much to be desired for.

I’m NOT a conspiracy nut but the undertaking into Vince Foster’s death was overwhelmingly pathetic.

Robert Patterson, the man who responsible for carrying and protecting Clinton’s Nuclear Football from ’96-’98 touches on this incident in his, ‘Dereliction of Duty’ book. A good read.

      • cali

I would also add the OKC bombing-the real truth has yet to emerge. Jack Cashill did investigations of his own, and came up with a cover-up in th Clinton admin as well.
What is troubling is the death of our Border agents, the deaths in OKC, and seems as though people are expendable.
How can we can trust anyting, when guns being sold ending up killing american citizens? Do we have any politicians beside Issa and Grassley that at least would talking about openly, and to promise the end result would be a truthful one?

        • And of course, rarely mentioned is the fact that less than 24 hours after the bombing, the local FBI office in OK City was given orders from Washington to immediately shut down their investigation into the “Middle Eastern man” who many eyewitnesses reported seeing with McVeigh the morning of the bombing. Oklahoma City newswoman Jayna Davis continued to investigate, however, and has documented the Iraqi connection to the bombing in her book “The Third Terrorist.” But of course no one in Washington will talk about this.

My guess has always been that Clinton shut it down because it would have meant going to war with Iraq, and he was too much of a coward to face that.

    • jojo

This is NOT Watergate. Watergate was no more than cover-up of an attempted break-in of Democratic Party Offices in the Watergate building.

Have you never wondered why such a fairly innocuous act had such gargantuan effects as to lead to the removal, without trial, of a lawfully elected President of the USA who was not to the taste of the left-wing arbiters at the time.

The time is necessary context. Vietnam War, started and escalated by Democratic Presidents. Lying propaganda with graphic TV pictures from the major media with the result, one can suppose intended, of pitting citizens against citizens. Particularly hateful, ballyhooed by Washington Post, New York Times and major TV media ,towards those young men via military draft who fought that war. Exempt from that draft were college students, one of whom after fleeing to England for the duration subsequently became Democratic President of the USA, that aforementioned Clinton. on whose watch the Vincent Foster, the unlawful review and removal of FBI and Virginia police files by Clinton’s spouse Hillary
      happened.

The Republican Presiden t attempting to end that devisive war with a degree of dignity and authority for the USA. Watergate was a manouevre from the leftwing of the USA, handmaidens of the internationalists from early on in the 30s called Progressives, long in power in Hollywood and Media. Outrage at McCarthy hearings and HUAC feint to distract from the facts found. Nixon heavy in those HUAC Hearings. What goes around comes around. .

Don’t you think it odd that this left-wing of the “Democratic Party” of the USA has now outed itself as Progressive?

      • pelaut

In all the ballyhoo the press made about Nixon in the Watergate scandal, the original intent of the breakin of of the DNC offices is totally forgotten.
They were trying to get evidence of a far greater crime, that of the DNC running a call girl ring out of its very office in which they blackmailed Republican challengers (and others).

All forgotten now, due to the Bolshi press.

      • Vagabond

jojo you are so right and Nixson should have just flat out told them. hell yes I authorised it. I wanted to see what you crooked sonsofbitches are up to,

        • Mannie

I doubt seriously that Trickie Dickie authorized Watergate. That’s not the act of a president. It’s the act of an underling trying to impress The Boss. Nixon did participate in the coverup, and that’s why he fell.

Fast and Spurious is probably also the work of an underling. But it was an underling that committed Treason by arming known foreign enemies of the United States (Aid and comfort) and protecting them from prosecution. He apparently did this with the blessing and connivance of the highest levels of the Criminal Zerobama Regime. We have Treason and Murder vs Nixon’s penny ante Burglary. And we have a coverup of Treason and Murder and Obstruction of Justice.

It’s time for a Special Prosecutor. What did the criminal Zerobama know and when did he know it.

          • dmacleo

the problem with this is comments made to the brady group about having background stuff in play to get more gun control by Clinton. if SOS was conversing on it POTUS either knows or was getting setup by SOS.
            and both are viable options.
            hilary is a bitch,

          • Suthenboy

You underestimate how petty and conniving this guy is. Remember the ‘police acted stupidly’ comments? He involves himself in affairs that the POTUS should not. He is unpresidential in ever way. He demeans the office by his legal actions and is not above demeaning it by corrupt ones.

Additionally, consider how ideologically driven he is. This is exactly the sort of thing he would cook up.
I am beginning to think perhaps there is more to this gunwalker affair than just an assault on the second amendment. I am not sure yet what that might be, but it is beginning to look like anti-second amendment legislation would just be the cherry on top for them.

          • Suthenboy,

I think you’re onto something. Especially when you factor in Gangwalker (arming Chicago street gangs), Operation Castaway (arming MS-13 and other deadly gangs via Honduras), and the large and growing Hezbollah and Hamas presence in Mexico.

The key, I believe, is the ideology of Bill Ayers (which we have every reason to believe, given their long and close associations, both personal and professional). Ayers’ Weather Underground intended to ignite a communist revolution in the U.S.A. by setting Americans against each other, primarily black vs. white. Ayers and company longed for the day when all-out race war would come to America, and blood would be flowing through the streets of every major American city.
            http://www.zombietime.com/prairie_fire/

One major obstacle to their goal has always been that We The People treasure the 2nd Amendment, and a large percentage of us are actually armed. This has always posed a problem for the communists. I think they’re using a two-pronged attack now, one prong being the one we all recognize: enacting every form of gun control possible, with the ultimate goal of confiscation. But they are now activating the second prong: ARMING THEIR OWN shocktroops/thugs/gangwarriors/revolutionaries.

Gunwalker very neatly includes both prongs.

Lord, I hope I’m wrong. But Ayers and company are as cold and merciless as they come:
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VlN2t0oERHk

          • Sorry, in second paragraph, above, I meant to say we have every reason to believe that Ayers’ ideology is shared by Barack Obama.

          • SFC_Swede

I too have used the Watergate scandal as an example to which to measure to my more liberal friends the dishonesty and cover up involved here. Isnt Scooter Libby still in the Federal Penn after being trapped and railroaded into a “perjury” charge for something he had nothing to do with (Valeri Plame)…while good ole Bill got a slap on the wrist after his perjury?

I want Melson and Holder in orange jumpsuits yesterday (Dreaming I know), and if can be proven Zero is involved, him as well.

      • lukeliberty

the impeachment and prospect for removal of nixon was the coverup, and perjurious statements associated with it. in the case of bill clinton, the issue was the same, no? our hardball scorched earth politics are destroying our ability to work together to solve grave problems. could a more engaged richard nixon have ended our vietnam involvement differently? could a more engaged bill clinton have done anything differently about the looming threats of al quaeda? the answer to both questions is yes. would it have been a difference that makes a difference? no one reading this knows, but my guess is yes.

in any case, the gunwalker issue is different than attempts to remove clinton or nixon.

        • Henry Bowman

I don’t think I’ve ever seen anybody seriously express the opinion that what is wrong with our political system is that we don’t leave bad politicians in office long enough. To the contrary, I believe that what is wrong with our political system is that politicians and political appointees never see the cell, the chair, or the rope with anywhere near the frequency as their subjects do for crimes of similar or even lesser severity.

      • Sean Slattery

        You’re right. It isn’t Watergate.

        It’s treason.

What is a High Crime if not funding the armament of criminals?

    • nickel

And a well known paramour of Hillary.

    • grasshopper

borrowing your comment if I may. thank you.

  4. 4. Anonymous

So glad this has come out, otherwise the 2nd amendment would catch even more heat from all of this.

    • inspectorudy

Anonymous, you are so correct. Obama actually cited the gun running from Az. and Nm. as proof that new gun purchasing and ownership rules were needed to prevent even more of this. He stopped saying these sort of things in about two days after Issa made it known that he was looking into the ATF and their role in this fiasco. If anyone thinks this Marxist was not in on the planning and execution of this disaster then you are a Demorat!

      • Willdit

Exactly! The whole point of this operation was to impose stiffer gun control via regulation and once again usurping Congress. Obama MUST be impeached and Holder MUST be jailed!

  5. 5. paul_unalaska

Perhaps Eric ‘..my people’ Holder will call the digs off the nonsensical Gibson guitar witch now. I’m ‘sure’ he will.

The guy’s a despicable human being and enemy of the state. Those are his good features!

    • Vagabond

Paul I wasn’t aware eric holder HAD good side. maybe I missed it. this thing goes all the way to the top and there is no way anyone can convince me otherwise, it is just another action of this CORRUPT regime. the sooner we are rid of them the better off we will all be, and I still think they all should be prossecuted as the FELONS they are and sentenced to 40 years and one day at hard labor PLUSS one million dollars each. with the money to go to the victems fund, further they should ALL lose any and all benefits,

    • Dracon

I am an enemy of the state. The state has run amok. It is also practicing economic policy to ruin the financial health of this country. The ‘let them eat cake’ attitude in Washington DC demands the attention of all citizens who seek to preserve our freedoms. It must be eliminated.

Holder is an enemy of the people.

    • Dracon

I am an enemy of the state. The state has rum amok and needs to be drastically reined in.

Holder is an enemy of the people.

  6. 6. Captjim

I am willing to bet that if you asked 100 people on the street what they know about “Fast and Furious” or the “gunwalker” issue that you would get 99 blank stares. This is going to remain below the radar screen because the truth of it would be damaging to this administration and the MSM will not let that happen.

    • StrangernFiction

If the Republican candidates begin talking about this it will be very difficult for the MSM to keep this below the radar screen. Will they make much of a case of it? I’m not holding my breath.

      • Well, we know that none of the moderators in these useless “debates” are going to ASK them about it. It will only become an issue if a candidate or candidates seizes the microphone, changes the subject from whatever silly question they just got asked, and starts talking about this on their own AND REFUSES TO SHUT UP.

  7. 7. ksljthgf86o

I’ve hear rumors that the government agencies were involved in the drug trade and that was why they don’t shut it down – because they were making money. I used to think that was silly paranoid conspiracy theorist stuff. Now I think it might be true. The investigation needs to follow that direction.

    • eon

It’s more likely that this administration, specifically, seeks to destabilize the Mexican government in the “hope” that it will be replaced by one that no longer interferes in the drug trade.

After all, they see an inalienable right for their “faithful” to go tootski whenever they get the urge, and all this – intransigence- from the Mexican federal authorities is keeping the prices too high. When they talk about “making drugs affordable” under O-care, they might not just be referring to the prescription type.

It’s interesting to note that prior to the Japanese invasion of Manchuria in 1931, opium (which had been introduced to China by the European powers a century before) was illegal- unless you were an already-registered addict. The Chinese government supplied same with the drug, apparently in the hope that they would be less of a nuisance that way. The Japanese expanded the trade “sub rosa”, using it as a control method and fining anyone caught with the drug. Thereby getting a two-fer.

Obama may have similar visions for how He can increase His control of American society by similar methods. Increasing the violence in Mexico could result in a government run (or at least “owned”) by the cartels, ending in greater drug flow northward and (under basic laws of commerce) a lower “per unit” price- making the “heads” in His base very happy indeed. Using the resulting violence as an excuse for attacks on the Second Amendment may just be a bonus, in His estimation.

The new Obama campaign slogan might be “I’m For Making Guns Too Expensive To Own, And Making Drugs Too Cheap To Pass Up. Stop Clinging And Enlighten Yourself! (And Don’t Forget To Vote For Me- Peasant.)”

Thus is Utopia created. (In His not-so-humble opinion.)

      clear ether

      eon

      • Actually, it’s more likely, according to Occam’s Razor, that Obama/Holder were trying to increase gun and explosive violence in order to “encourage” support for far stricter gun laws.

        • John

          EXACTLY the reason.

        • Art Chance

EXACTLY! As I laid out in earlier posts on this subject: there is no reason for bad guys who buy cocaine by the ton to buy US legal gunstore weapons at exorbitant prices when they can buy fully automatic military grade East Block, Russian, and Chinese weapons by the case for pennies on the dollar relative to US legal weapons.

This is all a “Potemkin” gun running operation for propaganda purposes in order to further restrict lawful US gun sales and ownership. That said, nobody who doesn’t read conservative political sites or listen to conservative talk radio is ever going to hear of any of it.

        • eon

Possibly true, but Occam’s Razor (“The simplest answer which fits the facts is probably correct”) operates on the “sane man” assumption, i.e. that the actor is (a) rational, and (b) capable of logical, linear reasoning which motivates his behavior.

I make no such assumption with Obama, or his cronies. Rather, I think it far more likely that the lot of them are not merely ideologues, but fully delusional, living in what amounts to a “dream state”.

This would tend to explain why so much of what they do seems “designed” the thwart their own objectives. It’s because it isn’t really “designed” at all. “We want it to work, therefore it must”, is what seems to pass for “reasoning” with them.

Destabilizing Mexico with an explosion of violence in an attempt to force tighter gun laws in the U.S. is an example of “blowing up the mansion to kill the mouse” (see “Mouse Hunt”). In this light, doing it to achieve a “drug-friendly” government actually makes slightly more sense, or to put it another way, is somewhat less completely crazy.

Jefferson said, “Never attribute to malice what can be explained by simple stupidity”. In this case, we might want to substitute “insanity” for “stupidity”.

          Perhaps a better way of defining the mental processes behind Obama & Co.’s plans, here and elsewhere, is best summed up by Otto Harkaman’s remarks re Andray Dunnan in “Space Viking” by H. Beam Piper;

“The problem is, he’s crazy, and therefore you, not being crazy, can’t necessarily think like him, or predict what he’ll do. This can sometimes give him an advantage, sort of like a left-handed knife fighter.”

In short, the problem may simply be that our leaders are not merely narrow-minded and radical, they may also be non compos mentis into the bargain.

And no, that is not a good thing.

          cheers

          eon

          • Suthenboy

““We want it to work, therefore it must”, is what seems to pass for “reasoning” with them.”

            Accurate and succinct eon.

Remember, during the election of 2008, Barack Obama’s name surfaced on a FARC computer. So an association with the drug cartels, would not surprise me. Our government is corrupt through and through. It needs to be drastically downsized back to its consitituional limits over a long period of time.

  9. 9. Becky

The fact that every U.S. agent gunned down in the line of duty was fired upon with weapons recovered from apparent gunwalking operations in the Dallas and/or Houston Field Operations areas — not to mention the revelation of an domestic gunwalking operation in Indiana dubbed “Gangwalker,” and now “Grenadewalker” — suggests a widespread program to arm violent felons.

    Thanks for the good reporting.

  10. 10. Bob Z

Appearently, this scandal also extends to the Tampa, FL area. I heard a breif report of same not long after the original surfacing of this outrage.

  11. 11. Wigglesworth

I was watching the news on one of the Spanish language stations a week or two ago and they had a story on Fast and Furious. I think the Spanish language stations will be more receptive to covering this on-going scandal for 2 reasons. One, guns were being sent to Mexico and a large portion of their audience is Mexican. Two, Obama is not as popular as he once was so they are less likley to ignore stories that may not reflect favorably on his administration. I also think it is a huge ratings grabber. We need to get the word out to these organization, but I think it will be more effective if it comes from someone well known rather than just an average joe calling the station and saying hey you should cover this. If someone like Susana Martinez, Marco Rubio or even Jeb Bush called them and said look this is a huge scandal that needs to be covered.

    • Jimmyjames

That makes so much sense it’s painful.
      I hope it happens!

  12. Reporters, from the left, right, or Washington, are all such ignorant asses. First, the AK and the SKS fire the same ammunition and I doubt any of your readers could tell the difference. That’s your audience. You’re trying to build up the case against the government without sticking your nose into it yourself by writing about another article. Have we really reached that point? Why didn’t you just link to the original article and post a picture of the agent in charge with his email so we could address our concerns about this disaster ourselves? Simple. Build readership, maintain audience, note the obvious…then let it continue without offering a single solution. Bozo.

I probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that the government is arming violent felons. Isn’t that what all falling regimes do? Didn’t Saddam empty his prisons, too? Stock up. The government is supporting your enemy.

    • Phillep Harding

Maybe the typical reader of the Washington pap cannot tell the difference, but I suspect that the majority of reader /here/ own fire arms, and most of those can tell the difference between an SKS and an AK.

And, exactly /who/ are these from the “right” you refer to in “Reporters, from the left, right,…”? How many?

    • Art Chance

Wanna play with my “slightly modified” AK? Wanna beat up your shoulder with my Saiga 12 by dumping a few 20 rd. magazines? Maybe the urban castrati don’t know anything about these weapons but those of us in Flyover Country certainly do. We also know that no genuine bad guy would either want or be willing to pay the exorbitant prices for US legal semi-automatic weapons when he can buy the real thing by the case for pennies on the dollar.

    • RagnarD

      SenatorMark4 -

Seriously? I went to your link and well, the problems are numerous. Get a webmaster to fire up your web presence. I had to dig to find out you really do want to run for the Senate in Texas. But which one? US or state? It never says. Plus you have one issue. Hydrogen economy? Really? Find an engineer friend to explain that for now that is just a really wasteful energy source. Ask about scalability.

      Thanks for the disjointed comment.

Oh and to back up someone else, why not name names? Which journalists do you have issues with and why? What other policies do you want to put forth for the Great State of Texas?

  13. 13. "gunner"

    @ senatormark4,
you might be surprised how many pajamas reader can, indeed, tell the difference between an sks carbine and an ak 47, as well as spot the mix of weapons being employed in the present lybian unpleasantness, and how many of us own the same weapons, to the dismay and discomfort of the current administration.

  14. 14. Dan

We will never find the truth for several reasons. The first is the MSM they will protect Obama at any cost. I believe the guy knew and has an agenda for more gun control and was using this to be able to say that guns being used in Mexico were purchased in the US, probably when Obama et al began looking for guns this they found no evidence to back up their claims so had they had to create gunwalker. Second Eric Holder will do what ever he has to do to destroy evidence that leads to Obama even if it means he takes the fall for it later, the next demoocrat in office will later pardon him. We have already seen how Holder operates, look at the Black Panther voter intimidation case swept it under the rug with the MSM help. Remember how the socialist, communist groups work, control education, the media, take away you ability to defend yourself, and ultimately if you disagree you disappear.

  15. 15. perry1949

As a Vietnam era Marine Veteran I can tell the difference. I’m sure there are many veterans of wars after that that also could tell you the difference. The AK got the media exposure because it was full auto but the semi auto SKS was right there alongside it.

  16. 16. RebeccaH

    Prosecute them all.

  17. 17. MarcH

Bob blogged: “Every American, regardless of political ideology, should be livid that the FBI gave at least $70,000 of “seed money” to murderous felons so that they could buy firearms. The FBI knew these weapons were destined for narco-terrorists, and that they would be used to target not just other murderous cartels but to terrorize innocents”.

Does it really come as a surprise to you that, in the conduct of complex undercover and informant operations, UCs and informants are, of necessity, involved in nefarious activity (within the guidelines of the relevant agency)? Such operations are approved after an exaustive review process because there is often no other alternative to penetrate dangerous and sophisticated organized crime and terrorist groups.

I am certain that, at this moment, informants and sources working for the US government are associated with some pretty bad activity in order to collect intelligence on Islamist terrorist groups. Do you disapprove?

I think the bottom line here is that you are concerned that this line of investigation threatened firearms ownership rights. I’d be curious of your opinion if the operation involved dope, counterfeit pharmaceuticals, etc.

    • Seedtick

As a prosecutor I can tell you that the use of confidential informants (CI’s) is quite common. Further, it is a common practice to use CI’s to make purchases of contraband (usually drugs) in order to identify sources up a food chain of an illegal enterprise.

What makes this situation unlike those operations is that here the ATF (and it looks like others) used CI’s to make large scale gun purchases and then allowed those guns to be transferred to drug cartels (Mexico) and gang members (Chicago) without tracking those transfers and interceding with arrests before the guns were used to commit crimes. That’s right, instead of arresting anybody the guns were allowed to “walk” without being tracked. Some rocket scientist decided that instead they would simply document the presence of the guns when they showed up at crime scenes, after they were used to murder someone.

I can tell you that this is not a legitimate law enforcement strategy and there evidently were quite a few ATF field agents who agree with me but they were overruled by higher ups. How much higher up? We deserve to know. People should go to prison over this and not the cushy country club federal one either.

      • MarcH

It’s not uncommon for complex undercover/informant operations against high stakes subjects to fail. Only the must basic (for example, small jurisdiction buy/bust operations) can be slam-dunks. But, the fact that an UC/informant operation fails or was poorly conceived is not evidence of a conspiracy to subvert the constitution … or perhaps you’d like to join the verbose commenter (#43) and advocate the arrest of federal law enforcement officers for Treason?

Is it really the fault of ATF that the Mexican narco-gangs have armed themselves with heavy weapons? Did they have only slingshots before ATF?

        • Kerry R Jennings

    • Henry Bowman

“Such operations are approved after an exaustive review process because there is often no other alternative to penetrate dangerous and sophisticated organized crime and terrorist groups.”

If true, then the designers of such a sophisticated, expertly-planned law enforcement operation should easily be able to address the nagging “Underpants Gnomes Gap” in the plan:

      1) “Authorize” (force) US gun dealers to break federal law and sell weapons to known Mexican drug cartel mules to be exported outside US jurisdiction to Mexico.

      2) ?

      3) Take down Mexican drug kingpins!

What do you say, have we found anyone in the current BATF/BOJ/DHS “brain trust” who has been able to do this?

  18. 18. Marc Malone

“then we are plagued by an executive branch gone mad”

Sociopaths and psychopaths are not insane; They are evil. These operations were coldly calculated. The idea is to enable many more gun crimes, in order to provide an excuse to “crack down on guns”. They had to break the law to do it, naturally. People would necessarily be killed of course, but you cannot make an omelet without breaking eggs. Killing people is okay, as long as it is all in a good cause. This is evil. It is not madness, but evil.

People call it treasonous, and can argue that, but such turns off most folks as hyperbolic rhetoric. Let’s call it what it is: cold-blooded mass-murder, in order to advance the Democratic Party’s agenda. K.I.S.S.

Good commentary. Yes, buy weapons. Have close combat type, hand held weapons in key places around ones residence (guarding against family, visiting children inappropriatly using them). Buy diamond wheel knife sharpeners. Sharpen good, strong stainless steel hand held knives then hone them (put these in strategic places around your residence…sheathing them). Take a course in Krav-Maga…train using your weaponry.

Heavier caliber weaponry, automatic or semi automatics in a safe, locked repository-away from prying eyes.

Ammunition, plenty of it (1,000 rounds or more) in all calibers fitted for ones types of weapons. Defensive weapons such as Taurus’ Judge 2 or 3 is a good option, too.

If possible, load ones own rounds. Practice with ones weapons at least once a month after taking a CCW course. Train with a range master. Teach your children good weaponry handling techniques. Talk to a good gun smith…and if possible, clean your weapons as often as you fire them or once a month. Buy quality cleaning equipment and supplies.

Prepare because government corruption is rampant and uncontrolled.Vote this 2012 election. Massive fraud is on its way and We The People must vote massively for the one candidate standing up for our right to bear arms , mama Bear.

  21. 21. arhooley

The scope of this operation is getting insane. It reminds me of this Larson cartoon. I want to now:

How was an operation this big, involving so many federal agents, ever started? It reminds me of that psychology experiment back in the 70s where college students were told to turn a dial on some machine that caused people increasing levels of pain (up to screaming agony), and they did so. The experiment has supposedly been discredited, but now I wonder if the results, bogus or not, were essentially valid.

Bob Owen calls this “an executive branch gone mad,” but I see a moral infection among dozens — scores — hundreds? — of my fellow citizens that beggars belief. I was always rocked by fear when I learned of the inhumanities committed in the American Civil War — Americans doing that shit to each other? And now I’m scared again.

Once again we will most likely talk this ‘fast and furious’ – ‘gun walking’ disaster to death .
When the Justice Department – the ATF – the FBI and how many others in government involved in the lies and cover-up being carried out by the very people who are supposed to protect the citizenry – we need some real action to get some real answers!
With Holder and his pack of ‘merry marauders’ refusing to cooperate with investigators – with a corrupt ATF and even a questionable contingent in the FBI – I think that it is time for a select group to start pulling some of these less than honorable people right off of the streets and subject them to some serious ‘wet towel water boarding’!
We use the WTW method to extract truth from those who are trying to damage our nation – and who more that these corrupt – murdering – un American members of some of our most cherished protective bodies – deserve a bit of ‘real life’.
Don’t let the dangers represented by these weak gangsters get talked out of existence – form a SOG group in your area – Special Observation Groups can keep track of our real enemies – and rumor has it that accommodations are underway to receive some as guests of a new quiz show called – ‘To Tell The Truth – Really’ !

First inform your elected representatives that this treason must be addressed and if it isn’t The People will take charge. For the last few years of the Obama Regime we have been losing our country to the infiltration of Communists, Czars and the Propagandists, it has to stop with “Gun Runner”, “Fast and Furious” and people in the Obama Regime have to be investigated and charges of malfeasance and murder must be brought forth. This is what happens when we have negroids and other low I.Q. minorities as ‘czars’ in charge of a country [name me one negroid country or even 'state' that is successful]. We basically have a whole ‘clown car’ filled with idiots running our country and the only reason they reached such status is because of the color of their skin and not the content of their character.

But, nevermind that! Killing people in order to try and fex up the second amendment is a feature and not a glitch. This, if had been pulled off smoothly, would have been an excellent ‘crisis that couldn’t go to waste’ [i.e. heftier gun control].

I said it way back in 2008, but, I will reiterate:

“Obama didn’t study the constitution as a ‘constitutional scholar’ to ‘uphold’ it, he studied the constitution to learn how to reverse-engineer it.”

I still stand by my word and he is doing exactly that.

@MarcH – Their “ex[h]austive review” has led to the death of one Federal agent and facilitated the ambush of two other agents and because there are still 1500+ weapons associated with the GW/F&F Federal operation still unaccounted for, weapons most certainly in the hands of the drug cartels, the death toll of Government agents and civilians will most likely rise.

Most educated Americans understand the nature and value of covert ops, but GW/F&F appears to have been conceived to give cause to subvert the 2nd Amendment, and the usual suspects conviened http://www.cnn.com/2011/US/06/14/mexico.guns/index.html and Executive Orders were decreed http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/07/25/executive-order-blocking-property-transnational-criminal-organizations calling for and authorizing restrictions on our individual 2nd Amendment rights, all while these righteous liberal elites freely arm the wolves to give cause for their stated goals.

GW/F&F may not be camel’s nose-in-the-tent, but we’ll never know until the White House and Justice come clean and bare the truth to the light of day; so far, all they’ve offered is obfuscation, heavely redacted documents and fall-guys.

  27. 27. TexEd

My bet is that this is much bigger than the the feds who are involved. The whole issue started as developing evidence that guns sold in the open market in the US found their way into Mexico. Remember to 90% claim? This was to be the straw that justified drastically limiting 2nd Amendment rights in the US.
But, gun control is such a favorite topic of ALL the lunatic left. There has to have been a point where the ATF and Obamanuts actually met with these whackos to help coordinate their efforts, e.g., boiler plate language about rogue gun sales for use in every press story/release in the US every time a civilian was shot in Mexico. It would be much the same as the US media’s belief that EVERY gun is an automatic or illegal assault weapon.
Draw up a list of the most rabid anti-gun nuts over the past 10 years. Some of those folks are involved with this scandal!

Under the pretense of directed “lessers” running a sting to flood criminal networks with identifiable illegal weapons, was a larger and more sinister agenda being hatched?

The inevitable product of the wide-spread “seeding” of criminal syndicates with illegal weapons would invariably increase violence against American communities wherever these seeds were planted.

What were they really up to? Was the goal of the WH conspiracy just to create a politically useful uproar against the 2nd Amendment?

Were Jarrett and her sycophant europhiles angling for something else? Were they angling for their own international celebrity status in surrendering the United States to the UN small arms treaty and compelling the disarmament of private American citizens?

Would such a thing require a state of martial law? Perhaps. Perhaps it would absolutely require it.

If martial law would be ultimately be required to achieve the grand and glorious utopian goal of American citizen disarmament, how best to get there?

Open the floodgates of illegal weapons for noble law enforcement purposes, flood the nation’s inner cities and border areas with illegal automatic weapons. Get all the relevant agencies involved.

Such a stew would eventually destabilize the border; perhaps provoke a border war; perhaps provoke a federal occupation of inner cities where the weapons collapsed the local society with fully militarized gang violence.

Such a stew was cooked. The stench gave it away. Had we let this dangerously toxic brew of promiscuous and seditious policy cook for another year there may indeed have been martial law, and no 2012 election. Goodbye 2nd Amendment would follow rapidly behind.

When the government is run by true believers born to foreign parents, raised in university settings devoted to internationalism, there is no basis for love of country — we are merely a tool of their ambition. And artifact of their credentials and pursuit of world standing. The malignancies of narcissism driving such a personality are something to be feared. They are seemingly incapable of remorse or healthy shame.

But then again, maybe I’m the one who has it all wrong.

And now it turns out the US Energy Department was incompetent enough to allow the hedge fund equity investors to have a higher claim in bankruptcy court than the US Government loan? All of this is starting to look related.

Things are getting curioiuser and curiouser rather rapidly.

Will we see indictments this time? Obama justice, an oxymoron if there ever was one.

  33. 33. David W. Nicholas

I don’t think this was a conspiracy in the sense of trying to get people killed or anything like that. Where’s the percentage for them? No, I think they imagined that the violence coming from these guns, the people who got shot, would all be south of the border, and they could use the fact that more people were being killed to ratchet up gun control here in the states. You have to remember these are *stupid* people, who never think things through or imagine unintended consequences. Gun control is a worthy objective for them, and a few dead people who can’t vote for them (unless they sneak across the border) isn’t really a consideration; besides, a few extra dead people now could lead to a *lot* of extra not dead people later. Isn’t it worth the cost?

    • willem

Respectfully, there are likely several independent convergent agendas playing out in this mess. But it’s starting to look like the dedicated professionals in government have been played — that’s what I think will be coming out.

The career PROS got played by the WH “True Believers” who comprise the POTUS inner circle. The antics of the most senior WH cadre IMHO can only be explained by indulged or malignant vanity, disassociation disorders with resulting distortions and projections, and a remarkable notion that the entire inner circle sought to seize a level of power and authority with the full knowledge there was nothing in their personal or professional experience the even remotely prepared them for executive management as Trustees of the national interest.

What seems to have happened so far in this Presidency seems little different than a case study in petrified adolescent behavior carried over into adulthood, punctuated by an equally adolescent distortion of “having arrived”. There seems to be no limit to the hardened idealism or hunger for leftist affirmation.

To call it a conspiracy is a foolish term. That’s an after-the-fact allegation that a prosecutor of record should make. But neither does that speak to a seemingly insatiable appetite for craven opportunism, usurpation and insider dealing that characterizes the Chicago Way that birthed these political animals.

There are many good and decent people on government payroll. I suspect there are many who sense the battle for decency and competence in government is being lost.

The problem with lawyers running everything is they rarely have been educated in doing anything except that which involves jurisprudence itself. They don’t build bridges; they don’t treat patients; they don’t create products or technology; they don’t liberate people; they don’t even ‘manage cases’ but merely survive them to a particular outcome for which they are paid. They “operate” jurisprudence and process on behalf thereof. There is much the same problem in the academic culture today; most are parlor politicians and grant panderers locked in codependency with entirely corrupt administration bureaucracies.

Gosh, doesn’t that sound just like what our federal government is turning into?

Who are the vultures on the fence? To them the value of the GW/FF fiasco is to create the environment in which to best optimize their interests. The program doesn’t have to work as advertised, it just needs to provoke a phase-state shift that creates an optimal set of conditions for the vultures in the shadows with a very different agenda. I suspect the vultures include the advisors closest to POTUS — Vultures who genuinely do not understand the dynamics of firearms or the southern border. A Chicago-bred syndicate insider is likely to badly misjudge the potential downside to the easy pickins’ that made them feel too clever by half.

  34. 34. Suthenboy

Mr. Owens – I have read every article relating to the fast and furious scandal since PJM first began publishing them. I have commented on nearly every article saying everything I had to say about it already, so lately I have been silent. Nothing that is coming out now is a surprise to me, but I am still keeping up and want to thank you again for your diligent reporting.

  35. 35. Puzzled outsider

What puzzles me most is that if Eric Holder knew nothing about these operations till they were reported in the press, why has it taken so long for him to publicly deny that he knew about them. When the press first reported them, I would have expected a man in his position, if he in fact did not know about them, to set up a thorough independent investigation. Whoever authorized these operations has to accept final responsibility and not simply dismiss those who were carrying out instructions. If the 1400 guns not accounted for are used in only one killing per gun before their recovery then the blood of 1400 men will be on the hands of those who have been involved in this operation. Surely there is a great urgency in getting to the bottom of what happened and preventing this from happening again.

    • Steve

Exactly. Holder’s inaction indicates a cover-up. That means he, his peers or higher ups are involved. In this case the cover-up is not worse than the crime.

    • Uncle Lar

The answer to that is easy. It’s not about what Holder knew, it’s about what evidence exists that can document what he knew. The long delay is all about reviewing the paper trail to see what exists and perhaps what can be conveniently lost in the shuffle.
I believe the commonly used term is “damage control.”

The anti gun left had a field day with the “90%” claim until it was proven that it was a product of creative math and cooking the books by only submitting those firearms that could reasonably be expected to trace back to the US. Gunwalker was an ongoing project from back in the Bush days, but someone in the Obama administration saw it as the perfect vehicle to generate real numbers to prove justification for ramping up current regulations and creating new ones. It was just too good an opportunity to pass up don’tcha know.

  36. 36. Patrick Martin

Good coverage on this once again Bob!

Fast & Furious had four main players: Obama, Holder, Napolitano, Clinton.

Fast & Furious had five subordinate operation names, though all very similar.

    FAST and FURIOUS:
    -Operation Armas Cruzadas
    -Operation Firewall
    -Operation Accelerator
    -Operation Stonegarden
    -Project Gunrunner

    All very related, very similar.

We now have ATF and FBI involvement, the White House press release of March 24, 2009 indicates DOJ, DHS, and Treasury will be involved. And there will be more!

I would be happy to wager a paycheck the American taxpayer bought many more firearms than this little $70k with that has come to light.

When they had a potential $3 Billion, 740 Million of spending to do (DHS 3/24/2009 press release source of this amount) there was MUCH spending we don’t know of yet, and there were some high-zoot signatures authorizing payments.

We need an insider to Follow The Money on this, I’ve a hunch this will be novel and movie material when all is properly exposed! And if done correctly, can be the tool to decimate Marxist/Socialist/Progressives once and for all!

    • willem

Only four? It’s way too soon to leave out Valerie Jarrett and FLOTUS. The overarching subplot that seems to be emerging from the declared purpose of these programs is so incredibly stupid it would have to come from the people closest to the POTUS. My hunch Holder is trapped in the middle of an impossible situation that he cannot possible defend, and that he has been abandoned to accomplish.

Ahh. To work for those who have no conscience, no remorse.

Holder’s fate will be no different than any other figure in history who awoke to learn they ideed served a ruler besotted with hubris and magical thinking.

I would like to remind Fox News in particular, and the readers here in general, that the military look-a-like that you can buy in the local gun store is NOT AN ASSAULT WEAPON, the technical definition of which is thus: magazine fed, shoulder fired, intermediate caliber weapon CAPABLE OF SELECT FIRE.
That is to say, a machine gun, legal examples of which in the U.S. are highly regulated, and monstrously expensive, as the supply has been fixed to those examples currently in existence since May 13, 1986, after which date the BATF would not allow any more to be made for civilian use.
Please, people, do not allow those ideologically opposed to private firearm ownership to define the terms we use to discuss the subject.
“Assault weapon” as Fox uses here is a term promulgated by the gun banners, and was formerly codified in Federal law during the ban years of 1994-2004.

ORAN’S DICTIONARY OF THE LAW (1983) DEFINES TREASON AS “…[A]…CITIZEN’S ACTIONS TO HELP A FOREIGN GOVERNMENT OVERTHROW, MAKE WAR AGAINST, OR SERIOUSLY INJURE THE [PARENT NATION].” IN MANY NATIONS, IT IS ALSO OFTEN CONSIDERED TREASON TO ATTEMPT OR CONSPIRE TO OVERTHROW THE GOVERNMENT, EVEN IF NO FOREIGN COUNTRY IS AIDED OR INVOLVED BY SUCH AN ENDEAVOUR.
SEDITION IN LAW, SEDITION IS OVERT CONDUCT, SUCH AS SPEECH AND ORGANIZATION, THAT IS DEEMED BY THE LEGAL AUTHORITY TO TEND TOWARD INSURRECTION AGAINST THE ESTABLISHED ORDER. SEDITION MAY INCLUDE ANY COMMOTION, THOUGH NOT AIMED AT DIRECT AND OPEN VIOLENCE AGAINST THE LAWS. SEDITIOUS WORDS IN WRITING ARE SEDITIOUS LIBEL. A SEDITIONIST IS ONE WHO ENGAGES IN OR PROMOTES THE INTERESTS OF SEDITION.
High crimes and misdemeanors is a phrase from Section 4 of Article Two of the United States Constitution: “The President, Vice President and all civil officers of the United States, shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.”
“High” in the legal parlance of the 18th century means “against the State”. A high crime is one which seeks the overthrow of the country, which gives aid or comfort to its enemies, or which injures the country to the profit of an individual or group. In democracies and similar societies it also includes crimes which attempt to alter the outcome of elections.

    I SUGGEST PUBLIC HANGINGS.

For the following crimes; Malfeasance the performance by a public official of an act that is legally unjustified, harmful, or contrary to law; wrongdoing (used especially of an act in violation of a public trust).
Nonfeasance is to ignore and take no indicated action – neglect. Misfeasance is to take inappropriate action or give intentionally incorrect advice. Malfeasance is hostile, aggressive action taken to injure the client’s interests.
Example: A company hires a catering company to provide drinks and food for a retirement party. If the catering company doesn’t show up, it’s considered nonfeasance. If the catering company shows up but only provides drinks (and not the food, which was also paid for), it’s considered misfeasance. If the catering company accepts a bribe from its client’s competitor to undercook the meat, thereby giving those present food poisoning, it’s considered malfeasance.
THE PENALTY FOR THESE IS LOOSE ALL PENSION, SPEND THE NEST 29 YEARS IN LEAVENWORTH.
    For the following crimes if found guilty;
Sabotage is a deliberate action aimed at weakening another entity through subversion, obstruction, disruption, or destruction. In a workplace setting, sabotage is the conscious withdrawal of efficiency generally directed at causing some change in workplace conditions. One who engages in sabotage is a saboteur.
An alien who is present in a country (which is foreign to him/her) unlawfully or without the country’s authorization is known as an illegal alien of that country.[2] An illegal alien commonly refers to a foreign national who resides in another country unlawfully, either by entering that country at a place other than a designated port-of-entry or as result of the expiration of a non-immigrant visa. An enemy alien is an alien who is a national of an enemy country.

for the next set of laws; RICO is codified as Chapter 96 of Title 18 of the United States Code, 18 U.S.C. § 1961–1968. While its original use was to prosecute the Mafia as well as others who were actively engaged in organized crime, its application has been more widespread.
It has been speculated that the name and acronym were selected in a sly reference to the movie Little Caesar, which featured a notorious gangster named Rico

Very good point. They are there in the middle of the drug economy; from the upper Amazon all the way to Nogales.

No doubt they are getting their share of the weapons.

If martial law is needed to install the remaining tenants of the Obama agenda, then one must defer to the greater good of perfecting the nation by means of progressive cleansing and mental healing. This is for our own good, of course, as social justice will be our utopian reward.

Crazy as that sounds, that’s the goal of the Hegelian supremacist.

Nothing like a nasty little border war with a few urban meltdowns to put the nightie on the pig called “martial law.”

I used to consider such thinking as pure paranoia. Having watched the Obamajarret in action for the last three years, I’ve been hearing voices from the 60′s laughing: “If you’re not paranoid, you don’t know what’s going on.”

Arming the Drug Cartels, thus attempting to degrade the Second Amendment by envisioning only an “ease of transfer” effect, but what else do you get back? Campaign contributions from the Drug Lords, that’s what. Yes, you freaking raaacists, the latte’ Commies in power are exactly that stu…,er, brilliant…always and forever, because, after all, “they are the people they’ve been waiting for.”

Amen. Our in-house bookkeeper is of Mexican Heritage and this situation ticks him off to no end. He still has family in the North of Mexico and fears for their lives.

Fast and Furious will be ABOVE the MSM radar when charges are issued soon. This has been stonewalled and slow walked enough. The Administration wants this behind them at least until after the elections next year.

COMMUNIST GOAL #35: “Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI” ~ RE: Congressional Record – Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963 ~ IS THIS the beginning of the END for the FBI???! ~ I highly suggest reading ALL 45 GOALS to see how many have ALREADY been reached!

Multiple Federal Agencies that take their orders from different Cabinet-level Offices simply do not independently and simultaneously initiate operations from-the-bottom-up in their respective chains of command that mutually support an objective — Operation Fast and Furious — that violates the laws of both the United States and Mexico. Somebody, somewhere, in those chains of command would have fired an underling for even suggesting such a tactic.

Conversely, it is far easier to push an unsavory and illegal operational tactic down from the top, with cronies/nominees in key positions, all the way to the Agent in the Field — who can be “encouraged” to toe the line by reminding him that he can apply for a menial $30,000 a year job bringing meals to prisoners in a county jail, should he not want to “get with the program” and thereby keep his $100,000+ prestigious position as a Federal Agent.

Operation Fast and Furious has endangered the lives of every man, woman and child in North America, now and for decades to come.

IF we have the persistence, intestinal fortitude and good fortune to determine who was ultimately responsible for Operation Fast and Furious, our judicial system should pursue action against those responsible to the fullest extent of the law.

Of equal importance, the People of Mexico, thru the Criminal Justice System of Mexico, should not be denied their opportunity to prosecute and seek redress from those responsible for breaking the laws of their country.
