Gunwalker: Dems Abandoning Ship?
U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder has come under fire this week: evidence revealed he either ignored weekly reports in the summer of 2010 that discussed Operation Fast and Furious, or he committed perjury when he claimed he first found out about the program in early 2011. The former suggests incompetence, the later criminality — either would be legitimate reasons to see him removed from office.
Despite recent developments, the Department of Justice is publicly pushing back in favor of their boss, even as a key source claims career employees’ morale is at an all time low and that “Stalinesque complete control” over internal communications has been implemented to squelch leaks.
The White House is also publicly standing up for Holder, with President Obama providing unqualified support:
“He’s indicated that he was not aware of what was happening in Fast and Furious,” the president said in support of Holder, speaking at a White House news conference Thursday. “Certainly I was not. And I think both he and I would have been very unhappy if somebody had suggested that guns were allowed to pass through that could have been prevented by the United States of America.”
The President also touted the DOJ inspector general’s investigation of the scandal. He did not note that Cynthia A. Schnedar is an acting inspector general who has already been accused of using her office to obstruct the House Oversight Committee’s investigation, and who works for an administration that tends to fire inspector generals that do not report what the administration would like to hear.
However, it seems that the Obama administration’s allies are falling silent in regards to Holder, Obama, Fast and Furious, and allegations of other gunwalking programs.
When the story first broke early in 2011, Democratic lawmakers and leftist gun-control groups rallied to the administration’s defense, and they still provided support through midsummer. Paul Helmke of the Brady Campaign wrote a typical screed of the type on June 29, attempting to blame Republicans for the plot:
If California Rep. Darrell Issa and other congressional members who are in lock-step with the NRA bosses want to get to the bottom of the ATF gun trafficking operation, they need to start looking at their own actions and lack of action. By blocking and loosening laws to prevent gun violence they, too, are culpable in ATF’s “Fast and Furious” apparent debacle.
This poorly executed operation had agents skulking around gun shops to watch and possibly document numerous illegal firearms sales in Arizona. The unstopped gun runners then resold about 2,000 assault weapons to violent Mexican drug cartels. Further tragedy unfolded when two of the guns were found at the murder scene of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry in December 2010.
Helmke would later testify at a dog and pony show organized by Democratic Rep. Elijah Cummings that sought to be a rhetorical counter against Oversight Committee Chairman Darrell Issa’s congressional investigation. Cummings and a handful of fellow Democrats then tried in July to use Operation Fast and Furious as an excuse to call for more gun control. This also fell flat.
Since that last effort the administration’s allies have fallen silent.
If I understand this correctly, then it would appear that the democrats in the Oval Office are looking to undo the Constitution they are sworn to uphold?
Gun control…..or is it the sneaky attempt to disarm the people? Why is it so very important to the democrats that the people should be disarmed? They have risked a great deal, only to be caught.

When leftists have principles of convenience, it is apparent that all prior vehement and vocal stances were nothing but a facade….all sound and fury, signifying nothing.
Because, if the CAUSE was real…it would not matter one whit which political party was offending it. The silence we hear…is the sound of abject hypocrisy wafting through Marxist bullshitland.
Here is what is going to happen, Bob. The WORST thing that could happen, is the propaganda machine seizes the story.
First, it will be completely ignored. Check.
Then, they will circle the wagons and say there is nothing to see, move along. Check.
Third, they will say Bush did it, the Republicans are making it up, and Rove masterminded it with Cheney behind it. Check.
Fourth, the heat will get too high and they will look for some doofus middle manager to temporarily throw under the bus, if he cooperates, they will bring him back as a union vice-president and lobbyist, ambassador to Burundi, for a trillion dollars a year in two years. Check.
Fifth, they will say…we didn’t see anything, didn’t know anything, didn’t hear anything. It was all below the radar and we promise to look into it with our double secret probation, super special internal crack investigative political operatives. Check.
Sixth, they will get their flying monkeys in the propaganda machine to bury, distort, whitewash,scrub, sanitize, water down, dilute, and otherwise minimize the damage on this story. Hell, the LA Times might hold videotapes of actual murders hostage under the “If a leftist does it, we have no obligation to show it” news rule. (not sure if a check mark goes here)
Seventh, after the Journolistas have completely scrubbed the story of all damaging facts, buried the evidence (and maybe a few bodies), blamed Palin, Bush and the Tea Party for being racist, sued the border states for guns crossing over their borders and completely turning the story on its head…they will announce that the matter is “settled” and any further discussion of it…is for “political purposes”.
Eighth, the minions, lackeys and sniveling toadies from TV, Hollywood and academia will begin to create stories about the “real” issue..which is the 2nd Amendment needing to be vaporized, that the “real” danger is in “conservative gun-loving”…and that this is all a “distraction” from that “real” issue.
Ninth, anyone who criticizes Holder will be called a racist and Janeane Garafolo and Bill Maher will discuss the “motive” behind the investigation…because it involved a black Attorney General and “brown” drug cartels….and we as a people “don’t really care about dead Mexicans…since we actually want to build moats with alligators” anyway.
Tenth, and last…this will be called an “internet created story”…that it lacked “fact checkers and editors” and came from the “right wing blogosphere”…and therefore lacks all credibility.
Whereupon, it will go to the “truth cemetery” where ALL the other scandals of leftists go…and it will remain dead forever.
We can only hope that “Baghdad Bob” Holder and the other narrative-weavers overplay their hands. By the time they are catapulted from their perches next year in the landslide election, the people who have been silenced may be eager to speak up. It only takes one or two blow this story wide open. Until then, let’s hope Sharyl Attkisson has more material and that other reporters join with her to find out what happened.
If your prognostication is correct, cf, let’s tell Darrell Issa to pack up and quit because it isn’t worth trying to save America, let’s just turn it over to the socialists now. It saves time and energy and money that could be redistributed to the truly needy.

I apologize for my cynicism, BK…and I will reverse it…IF…you or anyone else can point to one…one…scandal that involved leftist government officials in which each of those steps did not take place.
Secondly, you and I have a different understanding, perhaps, of what Darrel Issa can do. He can investigate…they can stonewall. He can raise awareness, they can bury evidence. He can subpoena, they can withhold and redact. He doesn’t control the mass media…and THEY are controlled…make no mistake about it. They are not a free and independent press. They ARE Journolistas.
Third, we don’t have to sit back and give the leftists control of the government, our Constitution, 80% of our GDP, our military decisions, our DOJ, our communications, our freedoms and liberties. They already seized all of them.
As for fighting to get them back…I have been screaming about how the seizure of JUST our communications was the most dangerous thing I could possibly envision…back when I was just a pup commenter on Bob Owens’ Confederate Yankee site…several years before Obama was elected…and the seizure of the rest took place. I HAVE been fighting…and do so nearly every day here.
But, the first order of business in any battle plan…is to understand what is likely to take place. The best way for me to counter it…is to continue to scream at the top of my lungs…and try to awaken people from their slumber.
So far, I’m not sure how effective I have been or am. I hope some people pay attention to what I write. It’s up to them…to carry the message forward. And up to those who can do something more to do what THEY can.

Things have not been done, because there has not yet been sufficient political will to do so. Once it is there, it takes time to go through all the hoops. The fact is, the legal process takes longer than the election cycle.
My buddy and I came up with a shortcut idea, yesterday. Issa should just turn over information to the Mexican government and invite them to request the extradition of the parties involved for prosecution under their laws, especially Holder. Such a request would make a huge impact in foreign press, which really could not be ignored by the domestic press. Once the MSM is forced to pay attention to this, the wheels will come off rapidly and completely.

Wouldn’t surprise me if they got behind calling for an independent counsel. What better way to shutdown the Congressional investigations and impose a news blackout for 18-24 months? But an independent counsel could indict Holder and possibly Obama of accessory to murder. This scandal could range from the DOJ, WH, homeland security and state department. Hundreds of Obama administration officials would have to lawyer-up.

Right you are. It seems to take 18-24 months for an IC to get around to indicting anyone, and they typically don’t “leak”. Convictions count, not indictments, and the IC record hasn’t been all that good lately.
In your dreams. The strategy of getting behind an Independent Counsel appointment would be to ensure that the appointed counsel avoided finding anything seriously wrong, and avoid indicting any highly-placed Democrat.
So maybe it’s time we organize an “OccupyObama’sGovernment” event? In every city? Except we do it in orderly fashion and don’t disgrace ourselves by relieving ourselves against police cruisers? Go home every night and come back the next morning?
They’re silent because it’s not a big deal to shut it down … via independent counsel (as MaDr has already noted); so they’re buying as much time as possible; smearing anyone that dares question; Obama thinks he’s God again with the ‘move on nothing to see’ especially when other massive distractions are being fomented and given momentum. Between last night and this morning 20 people were shot in Chicago with three dead. Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the nation. It is also the adopted home town of B.H. That little place outside of Chicago called Illinois does not force Chicago to recognize the most basic right in the world, that of self-defense. In that sense Chicago Illinois is just like the UK.

It is grossly apparent that neither have special intellectual or personal gifts typical in an AVERAGE attorney or other professional. No treaty can nullify part of the Constitution (do you think the drafters of it were that stupid?) and by itself the treaty has no internal effect, it’s not “self-executing”. A tiny point: The issue is not, and never has been “gun control.” As usual, the Right has allowed the Left to define the playing field [I think you can come up with your own list here.]. The issue is individual constitutional rights versus improper government prevention of personal gun ownership and carry. Everyone should be for gun control as it pertains to legal versus illegal sales and use. What everyone should be against is arbitrary restriction of the former. We need better PR that, beyond improved messaging, would make it very, very clear why the Left ALWAYS prefers an unarmed populace.
None of the reasons for this operations that have been speculated seem to justify a coordinated criminal operation by the US government on such a massive scale. I think we need to think bigger. For example, could this be an operation to strengthen a particular cartel to the point that it could tacitly or even overtly take over the government of Mexico. Access to all the intstitutions of a sovereign nation could give a Marxist group a very nice edge.

I am a retired US citizen living in Mexico. A prevalent rumor here is that the expected incoming political party, the PRI (not the present Party in power), intends to reduce the number of cartels to 1 and then “negotiate” an end to violence within Mexico. It’s local violence that the man on the street here is concened about. Drug traffic into the US? Couldn’t care less if the violence goes away. Another factor little discussed anywhere is the amount of drug money that finds its way into political coffers, and whose coffers, and from which sources.

Fast and Furious required a policy change in the ATF from the Bush Administration policies. Nobody in the ATF or the DOJ has the authority to change agency policies. Those policies are set only by the President of the United States.
An example of this was when Obama changed NASA policy from “manned space flight” to “outreach to Muslims” Nobody in NASA – including the director could have made that policy change.

Issa and Grassley should invoke the Truman doctrine, “The Buck Stops Here.” They do that by asking the president how he failed to know that an operation of this magnitude and consequence went on right under his nose without his knowledge. While it is plausible that such a thing could happen, it opens the question, what else goes on under the auspices of presidential authority that he is unaware of.
Further, if he didn’t know about this, how could he know what else goes on unbeknownst to him. Should we be able to trust that the president has the reigns of the executive branch firmly in his own grasp? It would seem not. This thing goes farther than itself, then. It implicates the whole authority and command of the president.
Indeed, this is the manifestation of a failed Truman doctrine; a doctrine that acts as the pinking shears on the drapes of plausible deniability. The Truman doctrine cuts away the veil the presidents always try to use to protect themselves. The only protection faithful to his oath and duties is to vigorously expose and prosecute anyone who has abused his trust in the name of his office. There’s no other way out.
