Gunwalker: ATF Targets Were Actually FBI Informants
Writing from the Los Angeles Times Washington Bureau, Richard Serrano reveals that at least six of the ATF’s targets in Operation Fast and Furious were paid FBI informants.
In a letter to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III, the investigators asked why U.S. taxpayers’ money apparently was paid to Mexican cartel members who have terrorized the border region for years in their efforts to smuggle drugs into this country, and to ship U.S. firearms into Mexico.
“We have learned of the possible involvement of paid FBI informants in Operation Fast and Furious,” wrote Rep. Darrel Issa (R-Vista), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Sen. Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The two have been the leading congressional critics of the program.
“At least one individual who is allegedly an FBI informant might have been in communication with, and was perhaps even conspiring with, at least one suspect whom ATF was monitoring,” they wrote.
The FBI and DEA did not tell the ATF about the alleged informants. The ATF and congressional investigators learned later that those agencies apparently were paying cartel members whom the ATF wanted to arrest.
To simplify: the Department of Justice was paying ATF agents to ignore federal laws in order to provide weapons to criminal informants paid by the FBI, who then distributed those weapons to other cartel members who killed federal agents from Border Patrol and Immigration and Customs Enforcement plus an estimated 150 soldiers and police in Mexico.
The development draws FBI Director Robert Mueller further into the scandal, and suggests that acting ATF Director Ken Melson was being truthful when he claimed he was unaware of key elements of Operation Fast and Furious. Congressional investigators now need to interview the FBI director and determine if Mueller was also being provided with only partial details about the operation.
If that turns out to be the case, it is a damning indictment of the Justice Department and senior officials within the Department, who learned nothing about the disastrous and deadly effects of compartmentalization which were partially to blame for the success of Islamic terrorists on September 11, 2001. The “wall of separation” created by Clinton-era Deputy Attorney General Jamie Gorelick seems to have been embraced by her successor Eric Holder, who is now the attorney general under Barack Obama.
The “wall” was created to safeguard the civil liberties of terrorists by keeping counter-terrorists from communicating with federal prosecutors, but can be twisted to serve a far more nefarious purpose, as the various “Gunwalker” operations being uncovered seem to show.
“Operation Fast and Furious” was run out of Phoenix as a multi-agency operation, and Congress is now pursuing leads into “Operation Castaway,” an operation based out of Tampa that seems to have mirrored the goals and tactics of the Arizona operation while providing weapons to the violent MS-13 gang in Honduras. Additionally, ICE Agents Jaime Zapata and Victor Avila were ambushed — and Zapata killed — with a weapon traced back to a yet-unnamed operation based out of Dallas. A steady recovery of weapons to southern Mexico out of the Houston area seems to indicate the possibility of a fourth operation.
Two words: Keystone cops. Also, a good reason why big government is bound to fail.

What would be interesting to know is how many MSM networks were planning to run additional expose on the guns found in Mexico that were purchased in the US before this gun walker story broke. Remember the dog and pony show the ATF conned the gullible MSM to broadcast, claiming that 90% of the guns recovered in Mexico came from the US. Well of course they did, the obama administration sent them there.

Reporters covering the airmailing of the Russian boy, revealed there was another lil’ boy in TH’s household that they could not identify parentage… he was around 8-9 y/o, and no local schools had him as attending and the Super of that area schools said the mystery boy reporters named (Loren or something) had not even been registered for home schooling, and the school officials never knew the boy existed. Well. That one remains unresolved and no one ever revealed just who that kid is/was. Anyway, the disappearance of Kyron segued independent researchers from TH of Shelbyville TN, who returned to Hayfork/Redding CA, to another female, TH, Terri Horman who now lives with her mama in Roseburg OR after Judge moved her out of husband’s home near Portland. What’s funny is how this first TH event with the Russian perked up the US State Dept who flew a team to Russia to get them to thaw the freeze they put on ‘mericans adopting their orphans because they determined TH was a child abuser after they examined him… and the US State Dept guy answered a tv reporter regarding TH of Shelbyville, that he had not and none of his team had questioned TH about what she did and they did not intend to ask her, there was NO REASON to ask her. Well, could it be that with the US State rep involved in one TH event re a little 7 y/o boy, and 2 DA’s involved with rescuing a missing 7 y/o boy who was another TH’s stepson… and the 2 DA’s backed off and focused on Mr. Gore’s probs and wrapped it up with a luncheon with Mr. Gore after their deep investigation, telling him the gal didn’t “have enough on him” for a lawsuit so relax… Mr. Gore who at that time had a son in trouble with LE in CA, a daughter just divorced and another daughter in a divorce suit, and his Tipper divorcing him and him finding a castle for her in CA close to the ocean (guess he forgot about the rising tides) and he had to secure his finances in some kind of lock, which was explained to prevent folks getting at it in lawsuits. Ok, this is too long. So is 1 yr for the F.B.I. to be overseeing the hunt for Kyron in Oregon. ICE & DA’s part of team at various times along with the Portland LE led by the Sheriff. Maybe that’s why the FBI doesn’t have the manpower or time to do any due diligence at all about Mexico stuff. Maybe what’s going on in Oregon has some links with Mex… just thinking TH of the Russia event has a papa with property in Mexico, and their Hayfork residence is close to a lil’ runway small plane airport… oh golly gee. The issue in this major scandal is that the DOJ and possibly the White House were supplying an insurgency in a friendly country. And, our government did this in an apparent attempt to restrict a primary right enumerated in the Bill of Rights.
Mexico is not just any friendly country. It shares a long border with our country. It is a major trading partner. And, despite its long history of authoritarianism, corruption, and use of its border with the US as a safety valve to release is unwanted people and their problems, Mexico, for an underdeveloped country, is a relatively democratic state and it shares core Western values.
The Keystone cops issue helps to keep the issue alive. At worst, it is red herring. Compartmentalization and lack of communication are common problems in law enforcement, as are distrust and unfriendly rivalries among law enforcement agencies.

I totally disagree with the Keystone Cops analogy. The cops were bumbling idiots trying to do good while the justice department consists of very smart people trying to do harm. Only by the grace of God and the courage of some brave whistle blowers was this discovered.
An ivy league education does not make them “smart”, actually considering everything this group has done the term “educated idiots” comes to mind.

OK, I think I get it. We allow illegal gun sales to take place, allow the straw buyers to smuggle the guns into Mexico,allow the guns to get into the hands of drug gang members, then arrest the drug gang members for possession of illegally-acquired guns. Preferably they get arrested before they murder anyone with the illegally-acquired guns. But if they don’t, it’s all ok – we can arrest them for possession of illegally-acquired guns AND murder! The premise that the bad guys get arrested by BATFE in a foreign nation is laughable. Who’s going to arrest them? They didn’t even bother to inform Mexican authorities. The plan was actually to potentially trace the firearms after they were used in the commission of a crime. Which is not even a given. The powers that be knew very well that they were doing. The operation was a complete disaster and it has the odor of political motivation.
The whole thing reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail with their Trojan Rabbit. That is if they had actually planned to try to stop illegal gun traffic.

Compartmentalizing the various law enforcement agencies allows the attorney general to send different people to do different tasks without knowing the big picture. The right hand never knows what the left is doing and vice versa. In this way illegal operations like gunrunner can be orchestrated without protest from the people performing the tasks.

It will not be completed for many months given the number of agencies and agents involved and the less than willing cooperation of the DOJ. IF Issa & Grassley find Holder’s thumb print on this conspiracy (yes, it is a conspiracy) there will be impeachment proceedings live on CSPAN. August, 2012 would perfect timing.

Another question is, what will the press do with it? At some point it will explode, and no one will be able to avoid covering it.
I think this is one of the biggest strategic mistakes the Odministration is making on this scandal. If they had quickly come clean about the dirty details and even taken Holder down, the whole thing would be forgotten by Election Day. As it is, Parker has probably given the most likely scenario: a wicked public scandal on Election Eve.
What has the press done with it so far? Beyond the original CBS report, not much. If they’d devoted 1/10 what they devoted to Strauss-Kahn, never mind the current News Corp phone hacking scandal, to this story we’d see some real consequences.
I thought the wall between agencies was the reason for 9/11 and the reason we established the Dept of Homeland Security. And since State and the IRS/Treasury had to be involved, it goes higher than Holder. It’s a cabinet level decision and the Whitehouse is (either POTUS or VPOTUS) in charge of coordinating between the agencies.
This makes Watergate and Iran/Contra look like amateurs. These guys should be perpwalked out of there.

This reminds me of the Oklahoma City bombing. Elohim City (a white supremicist camp McVeigh stayed in between bank robberies) was lousey with informants for various police and regulatory agencies. The top layer of the organization were all paid confidential informants. Those different agencies interfering with each other to protect their own informants and build their own cases was why McVeigh was able to opperate without interference.

There are only two explanations. 1) This was an elaborate scheme to promote a narrative how dangerous allowing “assault rifles” to be sold and thus enact another assault rifle ban. 2) or even worse, a lot of people such as Mueller FBI, head of DEA, and Holder were paid by the drug cartels. That second scenario seems really far fetched but now it comes to my mind considering how big this operation was.
I just heard about the town that had to get rid of the chief of police, mayor and the police dept because they all were in the pay of the drug cartels. With that horrific example the idea does come to my mind. Lets hope not . That would be really high crimes and Holder and Mueller should be impeached.
It would be best if the administration comes clean on the rationale before this idea takes hold.

I am still finding the argument that Obama/Holder/DOJ committed this atrocity in order to bolster a claim for more gun control to be so incompetent and bizarre that it is hard to believe. Malice towards gun owners? Sure, of this there is no doubt. But this scheme is so fatally flawed a 3rd grader can see that nothing connects together. Even the official rationale can’t meet the laugh test. With people on the ground who were involved were told to go directly against all their training (letting guns walk), anyone with an ounce of brains KNOWS this has to blow up sooner or later. So I am glad to see discussion about other potential motives for this, perhaps motive(s) that are even more nefarious and convoluted than a simple one-dimensional explanation that Obama is anti-2AM, which is obvious.
I say follow the money and assume nothing.
Law enforcement officers know that they can not trust politicians. The career politician will sell them out if anything goes wrong. To believe that these law enforcement officers did something as professionally risky as this simply because they were told seems ludicrous. There was something at stake and something offered that made the risk worthwhile. A means to enforce gun control laws would not be it. This would be high risk and very, very low reward to the agents involved.
There must be something more going on. Something of benefit to the current administration for which it can offer enticements to career officers to take incredible risks for their careers and even prosecution.
The second odd thing is that this is all backward. We are somehow being led to believe that this is about tracking demand and not supply. Would you want to run an operation determining who wanted to have drugs or who was supplying drugs? Would it make sense to run a scheme where law enforcement legitimately bought prescription drugs and then resold them on the street or in Mexico or would it make sense to find out who was illegally supplying prescription drugs?
The case can then be made that the guns are not the end in itself but an enticement. Instead of cash as the medium of exchange it is guns and the US gov’t wanted the guns to be traced to individual gun shops and not the gov’t. itself. What were the real goals of the government?

To the recent trial of Casey Anthony, for the murder of her baby.
Which has resulted in the murder of US federal officers, and probably hundreds of Mexican innocents? Which has involved almost certain malfeasance by high level DOJ executives? Which received/receives wall-to-wall press coverage by the major news networks.?
One can conclude, with certainty, that we do not know everything about this major scandal, yet, and there are several reasons why we do not know the facts.
