Yes, but this is not odd. Keep in mind that SF is a city where you are not allowed to smoke outside, but it is okay to urinate on the sidewalk.

I suppose it's a little late for this, but:

3. Disagree, but avoid ad hominem attacks.

I guess it doesn't say "ad hominem attacks are forbidden."

Frankly, I don't see the problem. Perhaps more accurately, I don't see a problem. Not that I read the Chronicle story. From what I gather here, it doesn't say you can't special order it, and it doesn't say the secondhand stores won't resell it. The book is available. Not banned. And of course there is Amazon, if you want it delivered in a plain brown package so nobody knows, I mean, is there something shameful in reading this biography?

I cannot fathom how nobody sees the book store owners perspective here. They stock what they think their customers will buy. If I owned a grocery store in SF, I would stock tofurkey and organic vegetables and cage-free eggs over BGH milk and antibiotic chicken every day, and there would be no public outcry that I'm unfair to BGH milk. Nobody would stand up and complain and get a hundred "mee too" [sic] posts on some random blog.

I don't need to explain the logic of the book store owner, it's there if you're willing to think about it. But I will: Most are local events and such (Weathermen), (Haight-Ashbury drug hangovers), and fringe-science conspiracy publications. If they had a Harvey Milk biography I would expect the stores to stock it in their always limited shelf space and not stock something else--like a Dick Boehner ( forgive the attempted spelling ) biography, or Reagan, or The Turner Diaries.

[ If I were in Nevada I'd have Palin, Reagan, and the Turner Diaries, and instead of 9/11 fringe conspiracy books--well, I'd probably have those, too. 9/11 conspiracy books seem to have no specific politics attached, provided they don't blame Bush, but I suppose most do. I don't know, I don't read them. But I'd have an Eric Rudolph and a few Ruby Ridge / Waco pubs. What does it mean? Nothing. It means I'm trying to sell books to the locals and I'm trying to stock what the locals (I stereotypically presume) want to buy.

Are there dissenters in the SF market? Sure. But if I ran a pharmacy in a 100% lesbian neighborhood, I wouldn't stock condoms on my shelves. ]

Although Reagan is probably local-interest enough to sell regardless of political bent in the locals. So there's the real question on presumed bias: Not if they stock Sarah Palin's book, but if they stock Reagan's most-recent biography, whether hero-worship, bashing, or objective.

The group think so many posters lambast here as going without comment elsewhere (liberal group think) [ and why do you not make those comments on those boards (Salon) rather than here? I mean, why not challenge unspoken presumptions "out there" rather than gathering in some internet secret clubhouse? No offense, if pajamas is THE gathering place, I wouldn't know...], isn't all that different from the "San Francisco is the center of hell / Gomorrah" majority opinion that seems to hold sway here, similarly unquestioned--or at least the majority opinion of "those likely to post"--the silent (perhaps more moderate / independent) majority is of course invisible.

What was it I overheard some religious people say about throwing no stones and glass houses? Or was that Billy Joel?

But maybe here's a better question: Do we really want Red stores and Blue stores as well as Red states and Blue states and just how far do we need to go to split the country "fairly"--do we need a big line painted across the whole country or something? Put up signs "no liberals welcome" "NEOCONS need not apply."

[And what do you propose to do with the independents that never seem to get any consideration? What color is left for independents? Green's taken. Orange makes you sound like an Irish 1960s radical, Purple is no good--either royal or "gay". Yellow is of course cowardly, and wasn't yellow journalism communist? Pink's no good. The musician would sue. Black is kind-of taken anyway, and it's really not a color, it's a tone, same with gray. Maybe it will have to be purple--a mix of red and blue.]

Moho,

I am reminded of a great Monty Python classic, the Life of Brian. It was banned in La. It was years later that I figured out that it wasn't that it made fun of Christ, it didn't, it made fun of people who will believe anything just because they need something to believe in rather than think for themselves.

That might be a good part of what goes on in politics today.

Sara is popular, mostly because of being willing to say what needs to said. That... is the key to her rise. What you have to keep in mind, is that she started out as a mom who joined the PTA to make the school better for her kids.

Long, long long way from grooming from conception.

This is what people identify with. I think she would be the first to tell you, that's all it is. I have the feeling she would rather be home, making cookies and playing with her Grandkids if there wasn't such a vacume for basic, simple common sense in DC.

Give them hell moho....

Dark Helmet. I'll tell you one thing, I don't mind Sarah Palin per say. I don't really have an opinion about her, beside what's obvious. She doesn't seem all that bright, though she does have pretty good political instincts. She was in way over her head in the Summer of 2008, but that's obviously not her fault, but more telling of how rudderless the Republican mainstream was during that time. This is a very interesting story about how Palin came to national prominence, and the plan, before McCain's hailmary, for Sarah Palin that was dashed in 2008.

What really bothers me about this Palin-licking, is how absurd it is for Republian stalwarts looking for a savior. Republican administration of this country ran us into the rocks, but they still have the absurd hubris to act as if they've been some sublimated group of oppressed individuals, who only now have a chance of getting power. Please, if you want to win, then say so'; this save us Sarah bs is the worst. Its not Palin, its her supporters, looking past every hypocrisy or truth to make her seem like some sort of Saint. Its insulting to human intelligence.

231. Now and Then.

"Ban the karins.

And to 228 Terry . . . What methods are you referring to? (Sorry, I ended that sentence in a preposition . . . I expect to hear from Señor Simon any second. Serioulsy . . . oops, now I’m sure to . . . damn, did it again . . . sorry. So sorry.)"

Are you sorry? Really now. What would your black ancestor say? You know, Anvil, who's genes blessed you with ultimate cool.

Did the White House Turkey Interview go badly? Gibbs is just more of a turkey, but in consolation, the mohos bow to you, the Master Inspired Mixed European - American Turkey with a Touch of Black

232. moho.

"They don’t like being insulted when they call other people dirty mohammedans or imply that all muslims, gay people, democrats etcetera are baby killers, america haters, douche-users and/or secret illegal aliens. They are fighting for a bigotry free from bigoted reprisals. Hurray."

Oh don't be so dramatic mohos. Don't most commenters here think of you as either a lightweight or something to be ignored? You'd think your skin was a thin as you know who's - The mmm, mmm , mmm Guy. Remember?

Remember... How's Van Jones doing? Don't you have a personal relation with him? Disarm any muggers lately with your "Courage and Intelligence?

Then this mohos - read carefully! More Modern Liberal Drama!

226. Now and then.

221/223 Bill Perron:

"Please try to say something intelligent without any name calling, it only makes you look small. When you attack others and call them mean spirited hurtful names it really is an indication that you are filled with pain, and striking out with your anguish will only make it worse. Name calling is the crutch of the intellectual weakling."

Has The Inspired Mixed European - American Turkey with a Touch of Black has decided to move beyond name calling?

Are you both agreeing to eliminate 30% of your vocabulary?

Now that is Change. Mmm, mmm, mmm. No way.

I do find great humor in your wit moho. You're off with your base, but you are clever. Pretty ballsy too to take all the heat that comes with going against the flow.

But we never learn anything interacting with people who agree with us, do we?

Keep it coming!

The great thing about the free market is that people will buy what they see value in.

700,000 so far in the first week.

Simple, plain truth is easily understood when spoken.

This is what has the moho's pooping in the their panties.
